00:00Welcome back to Hidden Valley and this is just some of the carnage from race one you can see
00:10there Stephen Richards gone so to Paul Radisic after that coming together with Paul Morris
00:14and Jason Barguana as well another unfortunate casualty as we get set to go for race two another
00:2118 laps let's have a look at how they finished in race one and a couple of standouts there for you
00:25Stephen Johnson all the way from 28th grid position up to 13th and what about Anthony Tratt in the
00:31Toll Express Falcon from 29th position to 15th John Bauer a dismal day after that or start of the day
00:37I should say some problems there for him he dropped from third to 21st and Paul Radisic courtesy of
00:42that crash down to 32nd place interesting quality down the back there isn't it look at that charge
00:46Paul Wheel Larry Perkins Stephen Richards Radisic from Jason Barguana who broke a wheel in that
00:52collision with Stephen Richards so there's some quality right at the back of the pack
00:56should see a real charge here in heat two I don't know about Hidden Valley it's more more like
01:00Hitting Valley but in the first one
01:02so this should provide plenty of interest let's go down trackside now here's Mark Osler
01:09well the first of the Fords home in heat one Glenn Seaton I know HRT have had their wings clip but
01:15they're still flying pretty strongly yeah there's no doubt about that and uh no I'm really happy with
01:19that result especially at the start of the year where we were and uh to be coming back now it's
01:22great but uh it's it's tough trying to catch them blokes and and really when the cars are so so equal
01:27as they are it's very difficult to pass to and it's probably only a couple areas the end of the end of
01:31the straight I actually had better breaks than them I think unless they weren't trying and um probably
01:35just punch out of the corners I'll just that little bit better on first impressions do you
01:38think they've taken enough off the holdings or it doesn't seem to have affected them that much
01:41well this isn't an aerodynamic circuit and uh I personally don't know if it's aerodynamics but
01:46uh probably the result you'd probably say no best of luck for the rest of the day thank you
01:50there he is Glenn Seaton after finishing third in race one and here he is in axe for you
01:55holdings on the front row once again for the second of today's three sprint races very warm
02:01conditions here at the circuit scape and lowen seaton and tander larkham ingle and tony longhurst and
02:06greg murphy on the fourth row steven ellery good job john faulkner up there too brad jones doogle
02:11mcdougal steven johnson a great effort from 28 craig baird anthony track and steve reed forbes and
02:17crompton on row 9 10 is ashby and donnaher bow and heath back on row 11 and smerton and imri on
02:23row 12. yeah bow had an injector wire fail of all things mark paul cameron mcconville cameron mcclain
02:28paul romano paul wheel he's got a lot of work to do there larry perkins stephen richards all sorts
02:33of trouble and paul radisic terrible accident at the back of the grid peter doorman paul morris
02:39and jason barguana more practice for that reverse grid race in canberra for barks everybody's saying
02:48how difficult it is to pass here and i think you're going to find that um after the first race
02:52everybody's realized that this good the first corner here in the style of this one is going to be
02:56really uh a nightmare it's going to be very surprising i reckon if everybody gets through on the
03:01gate despite all the accidents in race one we have a complete field for the second race 35 cars
03:07and another 18 laps the v8s the revs rise we are set to go racing in the second of the day the second
03:15heat will it be lounge will it be scape or will we see a change up front away we go again and it looks
03:20as though lounge has got a great run faulkner like a bullet has moved up through the field as well look
03:25at tander he's gotten past seaton so tander in third place now and hounding oh mark scape down
03:31into turn one john forkner on the outside and the team as your online car made a good start to it
03:37there he is he's found the back of russell engel's car as this big field sort themselves out through
03:42turn one up toward the valley for the first time let's hope we don't have a repeat of the scene we
03:46saw in heat one right so far so good it's uh first lap and oh look at steven ellery oh it looked like it
03:53was all good right in tears brief bit of contact with doogle mcdougal and shades what looked like for a moment
03:58of their shades of race one but uh everyone's gotten through their a-ok great run for steven
04:04ellery in the super cheap autos team up in the top 10 he finished ninth and he won let's hope he can
04:08keep it together as tony longhurst and the caltex have a lead forward good consistent run at hidden
04:12valley so far and see if the queensland veteran can move up a couple of places before this one's over
04:17but look at that magnificent sight big crowd in here hidden valley oh oh steven richards again great
04:25and oh oh that's uh yeah so unfortunately back in the pack there plenty of elbowing going on in front
04:32jostling for position poor steven richards comes off second best once again the field now back down
04:39towards turn one look up the back there yes some massive dust go up there now i wonder if someone's
04:44gone off or i think it's you only need someone to go off in the dirt there and it keeps up a lot of uh
04:50a lot of marks on bow charging through the field yeah i was talking to his engine builder alan draper
04:56that was shattered after that heat one it's the old 20 cent part failing you know a wire electrical bit
05:02of wire that goes to one of the fuel injectors and the car was only running on seven cylinders it's just
05:08incredible how that can happen to you with the car now powering along oh steven richards here oh
05:15just a touch on the inside look at the damage on the front of bagwana's car i wonder if there was
05:18contact there this radisic oh yeah look at the body of bargainers yes so there's been all sorts of
05:24biff and barge further back in the pack well it's definitely not radisic's weekend nor is it jason
05:29barkwana's either he has uh been in the wars so far this weekend his teammate garf tander doing a good
05:34job in third place in the second of the valvulines valvuline cohen's commodores there he is or at the
05:40moment scape for lounge the red barons doing it again tander in third certainly four minutes back
05:45to larkham engle longhurst john faulkner and the team asia online machine having a great run look at
05:50him go there good run look at the speed of that thing let him squirt in the straight line
05:55as he ducks up behind tony longhurst but fortnight takes engle gets ahead of murphy he's on a real
06:03charge as they head up toward the valley once again i don't know it looks like engle might have a bit of
06:09a problem yeah because he's definitely slowing well he was in now he's you see because longhurst is uh
06:14and they're ellie's just got by him too you're quite right barry he was in seventh place definitely going
06:19backwards coming down the front straight there but he's lost a lot of positions and has now dropped outside the
06:23top ten there is tony longhurst currently sitting in sixth position in the caltex javelin ford russell
06:30is definitely dropping back to the enforcer who has enjoyed so much success here in the past at
06:35hidden valley and loves the place is not having an enjoyable second race of the day did reasonably well
06:41in race one finishing inside the top six but is dropping back through the field longhurst is uh so
06:46pumped when his guy says loves it you know driving the first one he might have a lot of ground and uh well
06:52it's been a great start to the season for the 43 year old queenslander i think he's the most
06:56experienced driver in this field now he's had a this is his 140th championship start so really
07:02starting to come oh damn me cameron mcconville and the auto pro commodore and he was oh look he's come
07:10off with a very fast section of the circuit down through the s's so we're not sure how he ended up
07:16there but look at the damage i think he's got a apparently someone hit angle now i wonder if
07:20that's a very quick part of the circuit so possibly cameron may have arrived there and all that traffic
07:25and perhaps not seen russell we'll try and have a look at a at a replay and get a closer look at that
07:30so that's rotten luck for the 26 year old victorian looks like he's kept it off the wall though
07:35looks like it's too but too badly damaged let's have a look at that bass yeah i'm just looking
07:40there oh wow dear me that's uh trying to cut it a bit fine well just trying to get in stay right in
07:49nice and close so to get a decent line now watch you on the right hand oh that that was a major
07:55major impact it was lucky you kept it off the wall too lucky not to roll it quite surprising actually
08:01because uh ingle didn't move out or anything it was just looked like cameron was uh um just
08:07keeping it really tight in i don't know you know where we're here from the pitch is the front right
08:11tire is punctured on ingle's car and he's out of the car so as you said before greg normally a
08:17heavy hunting ground for russell ingle 2000 is turning into a disaster at hidden valley
08:24yep this is really going to hurt his championship chase 50 degree track temperatures plenty of temperature
08:30up here in the northern territory this time of the year the locals will tell you it's actually
08:34a bit chilly as far as they're concerned oh jb what a day well he has been charging oh look at this
08:42yep wanting to get out of that one okay but john bow is having a wretched day
08:48they finally fixed that problem he was on a charge now he's come off the track he's gone right to the
08:53back again boy oh boy what a tough day now word we hear from the pitchers that ingle had engine
08:59problems apparently that's why he slowed down not quite sure of the cause tony longhurst the quickest
09:04man on the circuit at the moment a 10987 so the caltex javeline ford going exceptionally well he
09:11sits in sixth place just in behind mark larkham lynn seat and sitting in fourth a trio of holdens up front
09:19scape and lounge the holden racing team one and two and garth panda the 23 year old who led the
09:24opening three rounds of the championship he sits in third place and he's very hungry for points they
09:29had problems with a gearbox selector plug coming out during the course of race one at lake oil all over
09:35the place thankfully he nursed at home look at this battling going on here between pool and donahoe
09:39bradley jones is up well up 11th place yeah he's just outside the top 10 in the
09:45aussie male ford so continuing their progress the jones brothers it's good to see
09:51a little bit further back in the pack mcdonagher shell helix replay that's jb yes
09:58the problem is when you're trying to make up from a from the back end of the grid you're trying as
10:02hard as you can you're trying eleven tenths and you're going everywhere as deep as you can and
10:07you're your own worst enemy really but there's nothing you can do about it man who's carrying the
10:11most so look at this this is mclean and heath a bit of a racing incident there but at the top of
10:19the tree things remain the same we've seen it all year two holton racing team commodores and garth
10:24tander there's been the odd blimp in the statistics but really these two teams have dominated proceeding
10:29so far but glenn seaton sitting in behind there he's just got a sniff of the lead it looks like uh glenn's
10:37car's just got a bit of um top end speed on tandas fastest man on the circuit in terms of our speed
10:43trap folks to give you an idea down that one kilometer long drag strip or main straight 259.6
10:49kilometers an hour from craig lounge the kid sitting in second is getting the most in terms of top speed
10:56this is glenn seaton the ford in-car camera shows you the way around hidden valley look at the flame
11:01coming out of all three commodores there on the exit of the terrace hairpin now you imagine you're
11:08sitting there we're seeing this if if he was right up behind tanner there's literally there's no way
11:13you can tuck right up someone's backside then sort of nip up the inside there because uh just the nature of
11:19the circle i've got to gap these four now on larkham and tony longhurst who are continuing to battle in
11:26uh in fifth place tander is desperate for points he made that quite clear to us between race one and
11:33two he really wants to try and not let scape get too much of a gap coming into this round there was
11:38four points separating those two and would be desperate to get back on top of the point score
11:45look at longhurst that was coming from a long way back as well
11:50yeah the queensland is really on fire had a very good start to the season he's seventh
11:54in the championship points at the moment but it's incredible when you think his last
11:59championship win in the shell series was right back in 1992 when he was driving a bmw that's
12:03incredible it doesn't seem that long ago he's had a long drought 78 races this we go oh and rodney
12:11forbes and forbes the man coming off second best on that one a double tap double whammy so mcdonner
12:17has been involved in a bit of fisticuffs throughout the day rodney forbes oh oh that was going to
12:26paul romano must have had his heart in his mouth for a second there but look at this attack from tony longhurst
12:33continuing to monster the back of the minor 10 falcon
12:38tony's been a real speed freak in many ways right throughout his life a former bridge-to-bridge
12:43water skiing champion he's raced cars for many years he just loves it one bathurst back in 1998 with
12:50thomas mazira and a ford sierra spent a lot of his formative years under the guidance of frank gardner with
12:56the bmw factory team and i guess as i said before he feels like he's come from a background of being
13:03a real seat-in-the-pants sort of driver now he's having to re-educate himself re-develop himself
13:08as a driver to take into account all this data acquisition and back to school yeah back to school
13:11for tony longus but he's he's showing by the performance here that he is slowly coming to grips
13:17with making this caltex heavily ford work for him as he gets all over the back of the minor 10 ford
13:22this is the battle i think we've had a change up front here mark it looks as though tandem
13:25might have gotten around lounge he's done it guard tander so now the 23 year old has moved around
13:29him he did it up towards the uh the terrace hairpin there brilliant move we could just see it in the
13:34background of our shot got around lounge so he's now in second place and chasing the man who is just
13:42ahead of him in terms of the championship point score so a real battle for the lead in terms of the
13:47series happening here now he certainly has come on tander didn't he i mean he's really uh the cream now
13:53absolutely it's a very important championship balance and look at this oh craig ran wide just
13:58ran wide maybe mr gear or something going in and uh just that's all you need to do and that's that
14:05unfortunately is what the chance that you need because uh you could you can only hope stay right
14:11up close to somebody and force them into a bit of an error and that's about it well craig was very
14:16close to garth there on the exit of that turn and made it quite clear this morning he wanted to stay out of
14:20trouble this weekend he copped a 15 point penalty for that altercation with paul radicich at eastern
14:25creek and they had a hearing for his involvement with craig baird at eastern creek as well and he's uh
14:30lucky enough to walk away without a penalty on that one so lounge at the moment staying out of
14:35trouble in third place tander in second scaith is leading the way seaton in fourth larkham longhurst
14:40faulkner and greg murphy they are the top eight in race two here at hidden valley can mark scaith go on
14:46and win another one find out right after the break
14:55well welcome back to hidden valley and these guys have all gotten through on craig lounge during
15:00the course of that ad break there he is the defending shell series champion now the reason
15:05is he's got a back left that's going flat so possibly when he ran wide over the ripple strips
15:10before there oh look at this yeah i reckon you're right it's uh great because uh he ran wide and
15:16just turned the thing in and then the big make the back come around a bit and uh it's um it's amazing
15:22isn't it when you think of the success that this man has had two thousand just all sorts of things
15:28going wrong with the car and there's another one hidden valley look at him trying to hang on to this car
15:34get it back to the pits as fast as he can to get another wheel on and get out for the action whoa
15:41what's he doing here we go he's trying to get into the pit later i was a bit worried he was going to
15:45get the wrong angle of missing isn't it amazing guys how his fortune has just turned around 2000
15:50it's been a funny funny season let's see if we can hear the pits
15:56maintaining that strict 60 kilometer an hour speed limit the boys will be waiting there maddie crawford and
16:02the team there they are i'll be changing this tire and getting him back out there as quickly as
16:08possible lounge lies fifth in the championship on the entry to this round and as mark mentioned a
16:13moment ago this will be certainly hurting his defense of the shell series crown this has been
16:18one of those up and down seasons they're two major mechanical failures he got caught up in all that
16:23action at eastern creek and now he's had a flat tire things not going the way they want to for craig lance
16:27there's all the cars sneaking through and there it is it was right on that turn mark you remember
16:34there the lap before ran wide yeah tander managed to get around him and that curbing which when you
16:41walk the circuit and have a good close look at it can in parts be quite abrasive so when you get
16:45sideways sideways like that as he did possibly that's what's brought it undone yeah i would
16:49surprise me well there is the remnants of that back left hand tire now scaife out in front the
16:58question is can 23 year old garf tander reel him in further back a trio of forwards battling away
17:04what about this performance from john faulkner in the asia online commodore sixth position at the
17:09moment that is a sensational effort from the victorian and seaton at the moment under fire from
17:14larkham one of his best performances of the year mark yeah it really is he really needs the points
17:19too because he didn't do too well down in adelaide the double points race he's back in 13th in the
17:23championship at the moment sitting up there fourth on the points so very important for larkham to get
17:28a good solid points haul this weekend if he's going to keep himself in the battle for the championship but
17:33there's six forwards in the top ten of diamond yeah i don't think it has a lot to do with parrots
17:37here at the moment is it really murphy sitting in behind john faulkner there's craig baird so
17:43in terms of the battle for the top kiwi for our viewers watching through tvnz a couple of them
17:48going out at hammer and tong there baird right in behind murphy murphy the best of the the new
17:53zealanders on the circuit paul radisic has moved himself up to 17th position from the back of the
17:58grid so just terrific
18:05making their way down the front straight i forget of course folks lots of action
18:09coming up this is round five of the championship one territory to another the sixth round of the
18:14championship is the gmc 400 in canberra if you haven't already done so get on the phone and
18:18book yourself some accommodation it's filling fast that is going to be a terrific event racing around
18:23the streets of the nation's capital and all the drivers and teams are looking very much forward to
18:29that there's a great deal of enthusiasm for people in sydney and melbourne and lots of people are
18:33making the journey for that event well actual fact when you think about it john faulkner's the top
18:37place kiwi oh yeah i forgot about that just turned out homework here he was actually born in new zealand so
18:45faulkner flying the kiwi flag as well they take a big break lock-up from tony longhurst
18:52he's trying everything he can to get past the mitre 10 ford five laps remaining so options running out for
18:56the queenslander that's it the only option is to worry somebody like that mark yeah i mean there's
19:02nothing else you can do you just stay right at their backside and worry them and so they're looking
19:06in the mirror the whole time to hope that they make a mistake four to go in this one and to give
19:11you an idea tander is 0.01 of a second behind our leader mark scape so not a great deal in it at the
19:19front of the field you're watching the battle for third glenn seaton who had pole here last year
19:24and larkham tucked in behind him with the mitre 10 falcon there is tony longhurst who was
19:29hounding them around about a lap ago he's dropped back a cast car length or two and then a good gap
19:35back to faulkner murphy and baird mark scape's lap times have been remarkably consistent just hovering
19:41around in that low to mid one minute ten second bracket when you consider he qualified in a one zero
19:46eight six as the race pace has been all day so far looks like the tire consistency remaining the
19:53same if those lap times are any indication of one ten five three from scape one ten seven nine for
19:59tander so those two lead commodores been hovering around that place for most of the journey the
20:04craig lounge fans he sits 25th on the road at the moment now let's have a look at this replay
20:09oh yeah boy and lounges yeah oh damn me well lounges should have really got out of the way and let
20:14lounge he go really tell a teeth there oh yeah screen oh just kissed the tire wall trying to get
20:27out of the way of lounge there he is yeah that's the problem i mean you see someone coming you try
20:32and get out of the way try and do the best thing and it doesn't always work uh work out that way three
20:37laps remaining for our race leader mark scape and there's alan heath he's out okay
20:43put him right to the back of the pack for the start of heat three but here's our race leader
20:48and i've got to say when you look at his performances so far he's only finished either first or second
20:53in the first four rounds of the championship mark scape is putting together a real championship
20:57campaign this year isn't it certainly is he's uh keen to change some of those statistics mark that you
21:03see on his driver bio he hadn't won an endurance round with the holton racing team since he joined
21:10them he changed that statistic at the adelaide 500 didn't he yeah now maybe on course for the 2000 shell
21:17championship yeah the team really gelled this year he's got robbie star working on the car was formerly
21:27with craig lownds which in holloway the team's technical director they're all working together very very well
21:31well they have in previous years improving an absolutely formidable combination here's greg
21:36murphy having a look on john faulkner down into turn one he's not close enough though so faulkner
21:41hangs on to sixth place murphy and oh there's been a lock up there oh he made a bit of a mistake
21:46under brakes there he was going to run straight off the road managed to gather it up so he remains in
21:51front of murphy that looks like craig lounge's bits of tire loader well just three all over that corner
21:57back there so lots of little battles going on as we john faulkner currently 16th in the championship
22:03the team asia online car fighting very hard for track position at championship points this weekend
22:09put solid hall here will really help his chances coming into the double points race in canberra the gmc 400
22:15so very important round as all rounds are crucial in your championship chase but faulkner currently
22:21plays 16th a 43 year old murphy has and the team at kmart have been doing a lot of development on this
22:27car in the lead up to this round and it's the best they say that it's ever been to those that testing
22:33is certainly paying dividends for the kmart castrol race team now let's have a look at this replay here
22:39wow that was paul radicic we saw briefly yeah and that's trevor ashley going off there in the
22:44off this internet commodore so trevor as well lucky to keep it off the wall we are on the way home
22:49folks some ball with jb oh jb's going oh no it's like a video game for jb isn't that they're throwing
22:58everything at him here is your race leader heading for home mark scape won the opening race of the day
23:07and added to his four point lead in the shell championship series he'll put more valuable
23:13points in the bag in this one garth candor sits in second in the valvoline cummins commodore and you
23:17can see there a huge gap back to glenn seat first of the four drivers but he hasn't been able to stay
23:23in touch with these guys up front larkham longhurst faulkner fourth fifth and sixth on the road
23:31as we head towards the chequered flag lights ablaze for mark scape a flag to flag victory in race one he
23:38is going to do it again in race two the victorian who took victory in race one at eastern creek and
23:45of course the adelaide 500 well down he takes that indeed it was a good job jeff greck there talking to
23:52him six forwards as you can see them all flashing across the line there six forwards inside the top
23:5710 murphy having a last last lunge if you like it uh at faulkner but unable to do it there we can see
24:05brad jones and that's neil crompton i think coming across the line as well crompton finishes 10th brad
24:10jones 12th so a sensational effort for the albury driver in the aussie male ford his best ever
24:17performance in the series so far scape tander seaton and larkham longhurst faulkner murphy and craigbear
24:23that's how they finished in race two here at hidden valley
