00:00Welcome back to Queensland Raceway as we get set for the third and final race of the day.
00:07That is one of Australia's great hopes in the pool at the coming Sydney Olympics.
00:11Grant Hackett being presented with a special driving suit and a green and gold, very appropriate helmet as well.
00:18So good luck to Grant, the Munro safety car, the Holden out on the circuit.
00:24And we are getting ready for the third race of the day.
00:27Lowndes and Skate once again on the front row after two Quinellas today.
00:31Ingle and Garth Tander on row two.
00:33Markham and Radisic row three.
00:34Barks, a great recovery, will start on row four alongside Glen Seton.
00:39Yeah, Glen Seton's oil leak was just, they were able to fix that fairly effectively.
00:43Didn't have to change the engines at the first thought.
00:45Right down to Stephen Johnson, Perkins.
00:48Bradley Jones to 16th after qualifying 20th.
00:52At the back of the grid, Neil Crompton, they have completed an engine change on that car.
00:56It had been suffering a misfire.
00:58Trevor Ashby, Karen McConville, Brett Peters, Dougal McDougal, Steve Reid, Paul Romano and Paul Morris.
01:03Peter Gazza making his Shell Series debut this weekend.
01:06Anthony Trapp alongside Rodney Forbes and Stephen Ellery.
01:09Cameron McLean, the Queenslander and Thomas Mazira.
01:11John Faulkner still having electrical problems with that car.
01:14They've changed every electrical component in it.
01:16Hopefully they've licked that misfire for race three.
01:18Craig Vettel also has had a complete clutch change for that car.
01:23Here are the points after two races.
01:25Lowen's eight clear of team-mates Scaife, Ingle third, Larkham fourth, Radisic and Tander.
01:30Now, the interesting thing is whoever finishes third out of Larkham and Ingle
01:34will be the man who finishes third on the podium today.
01:37So we'll watch with keen interest in this race as Larkham, who you see on screen there now,
01:41with the Mitre 10 in car, looks for his first ever Shell Championship Series podium.
01:46Podium, rather.
01:47Podium?
01:48Podium, yes.
01:49Thanks for that.
01:50Be a big day for the Queenslander, wouldn't it?
01:52It would be.
01:53A lot of the Ford teams test here.
01:55A lot disappointed not to be further up the grid.
01:59Here we go.
02:00Start of race three.
02:01Listen to these awesome V8s.
02:02This is Queensland Raceway, the third and final race in round seven of the championship.
02:08It's been a HRT domination again today.
02:10Let's get the power down and Rockets away.
02:14Scaife comes with it.
02:15A run to turn one, but Larkham's got it.
02:18Scaife tucks him behind.
02:19Look at Tander.
02:19Tander's come all the way around Russell Ingle.
02:22That's got to be a long way around Russell.
02:25Yeah, I would say.
02:27Back through turn two.
02:29Tightened corner onto the back straight once again.
02:32Craig Larkham's doing what he's done all day.
02:34Leading off the start, spreading away.
02:36Look at Mark Scaife though.
02:37He's got his hands and his mirrors full.
02:39Russell Ingle and Garth Tander try to run down the inside.
02:41Oh, the Tander down the outside.
02:42He's going right around the outside of Mark Scaife.
02:44He'll get hung out to dry here.
02:45Ingle under brakes.
02:47Now with that one go wide, I think that's Stephen Richards that's gone off there.
02:51So Richards recovers and gets back on the circuit, but Ingle is mixing it big time
02:55and not afraid to argue.
02:57Copped a $10,000 fine and lost 20 championship points following that altercation with Mike Imrie in race one.
03:05Russell fighting now in the third of the day.
03:08Imrie also copped a suspended $1,000 fine and which has been suspended for three races.
03:13He was declared an obstructionist by the CAMS officials.
03:16So he got his knuckles wrapped as well.
03:19But Russell will be much lighter in the pocket after today.
03:22$10,000, the enforcer is living up to his reputation at Queensland this afternoon.
03:28Right in the thick of this battle.
03:29Lowndes has cleared out of there two seconds faster than his teammate Mark Scaife.
03:34Lowndes on the opening lap a 1.16.81 and Scaife a 1.18.07.
03:39So we're talking one and a half seconds in fact there.
03:42Unbelievable.
03:43Yeah, that's the Lowndes of old, isn't it?
03:44Get out there on cold tyres.
03:46Absolute blistering speed on that opening lap.
03:48That's where he builds up that cushion.
03:50And once he's got it, he can maintain it all the way to the end.
03:52But here's where the real battle is.
03:53Mark Scaife defending hard on the whole Racing Team Commodore from Russell Ingle.
03:57Who's really pumped up for a big result here.
03:59Garth Tander in behind.
04:01And then it's Paul Radisic, Mark Larkin.
04:03Glenn Seaton, Jason Barguana.
04:05There's the battle between Paul Wheel and Tony Longhurst for 12.
04:08Oh, Russell's got to be careful.
04:10He could so have an expensive day.
04:12Very expensive day.
04:15Right in behind Mark Scaife, our championship leader.
04:1933-year-old New South Welshman.
04:23764 points.
04:24He's in a very enviable position now because even though he wants to run up in that top four, top five cars,
04:29winning is not so critical as long as he keeps those points ticking over.
04:31Big run by Longhurst down the inside under brakes into turn six.
04:34Barguana and Greg Murphy going out and hammer and talk here.
04:38Murphy in the Kmart Commodore.
04:39Let's take a look at the Shell Helix replay.
04:43Now that is Alan Heath and John McConaughey.
04:45Oh, Thomas Mazira running off the circuit.
04:46And Rodney Forbes again in amongst it.
04:49And McLean has had a spin as well.
04:52Jeez, Rodney Forbes.
04:53Really been in the thing of things this afternoon.
04:55The Sydney Sider.
04:56Look at the angle though.
04:58He'd have the eyes on.
04:59Locked in behind the whole Racing Team Commodore.
05:01Flood out to the back straight.
05:02Building up to 240 kilometres an hour.
05:04We're at the braking zone.
05:05Look at the bump there.
05:06100 metres out.
05:09Scaife defending hard.
05:11Engel.
05:11Bumper leaning on the back of the Red Baron.
05:14As they come up through the centre section down to Warwick Turn 4.
05:18This should be a really good tussle actually.
05:20Because Scaife has got the widest Commodore in the world.
05:22But he wants it.
05:22Well, he's been very concerned about tyre wear this weekend.
05:30So, this mechanic, Robbie Starr,
05:32has made some minor adjustments to the rear suspension of the car.
05:36To make sure he can get this one home on rubber.
05:38And Engel, though, attacking really hard.
05:41Garth Tander wants his slice of the action too.
05:44Tremendous battle for second position.
05:46First of the forwards.
05:47Oh, and there's Paul Radsich.
05:49He was running in fifth mark.
05:50Yeah, I was going to say, he's had quite a consistent day.
05:52But it looks like he's peeling off into fifth lane.
05:57Can't persist with it.
06:00Now, they're talking there.
06:01Can't persist with it was the question from the team.
06:03So, some sort of problem, maybe.
06:05Some sort of mechanical drama.
06:06You can see us.
06:07It's all over, he's saying.
06:08He just said it's all over.
06:10I see a star in the front windscreen.
06:12Look at that.
06:12Some sort of damage, a rock or something being thrown up.
06:15But he has switched it off.
06:17Paul Radsich is out of action.
06:21Rotten luck for the Kiwis, and particularly our Kiwi fans who are watching through TV1 in New Zealand.
06:26Look at that.
06:27Fastest lap so far.
06:28Craig Lowndes, a 1.11, 1.5.
06:31He's gone even faster than he has in the previous two races.
06:34So, the track was supposed to be hard on tyres.
06:36Lowndes is going even faster at the end of the day.
06:40Extraordinary.
06:40Here's Craig Bear.
06:41Didn't get a start in race two.
06:43He's coming right from the back of the grid.
06:45He's got a lot of work to do.
06:46He's so smooth, Lounsie.
06:48That's why, at the end of the day, he's got the best of the rubber, isn't he?
06:50Because he looks after it.
06:52A lot of the teams have been complaining after the first and second races here today that
06:56they are struggling with brake problems, particularly at this part of the circuit.
06:59This middle section, where there's a lot of hard braking to be done.
07:02And the only reprieve the brakes get is along the front straight here and through the swimming
07:06turns, one and two.
07:08But there, there's a lot of heavy brake applications.
07:10And teams have been playing with compounds and all sorts of things to try and get around
07:13these problems.
07:14Look at Tony Longhurst here, throwing out a challenge to Stephen Johnson.
07:17That's in the foreground.
07:18You ride with John Bow.
07:20The B, clear and simple, on board, on the roof of the Caterpillar Ford.
07:23And up in front of him, two other forwards battling away.
07:26Longhurst, the Queenslander, and young Stephen Johnson.
07:28Bounds continues to pump it out, 3.1 seconds, the gap over Mark Skate, his teammate in second.
07:34Russell Ingle in third, Garth Downer still in fourth.
07:38Markham.
07:38Oh, look at this.
07:39Oh, Biffo.
07:42Stephen Johnson on the receiving end of that.
07:44Elbows out for Tony Longhurst.
07:47Great run down the inside.
07:48He's currently sixth in the Shell Championship point.
07:50Sandix.
07:51Stephen Johnson, though, isn't going to have any of that.
07:53Granges alongside on the approach to turn four.
07:57Plenty of Biff and Barge.
07:58John Bow joins in in the action.
08:00So three forwards at a real battle here to stay in the top ten.
08:05Tony Longhurst currently in tenth spot.
08:07Apparently Radicic lost third gear, and that's why he couldn't carry on.
08:11Longhurst's team were incredibly impressed with his performance in the second race.
08:15In the space of ten laps, he jumped 11 positions.
08:19So the Queenslander really driving quite well.
08:21Here is Tasmania's John Bow.
08:23Aboard the Caterpillar Ford.
08:24He has really closed in on Stephen Johnson in the Shell Helix Racing Ford as they sweep through turn one.
08:31Lap six of 17.
08:32Has not been the season that John Bow would have liked.
08:40Tasmania, not off to a good start, has been involved in a number of incidents this year.
08:44Fighting hard here in Queensland.
08:47This is a bit further up.
08:48Mark Larkin in fifth position.
08:51Keep in mind he has to beat Ingle.
08:54Into third spot.
08:55So hopefully he will end up on the podium this afternoon.
09:00It will be a big day for Mark Larkin.
09:02He's never been on the Shell Series podium.
09:05Let's have a look at his feet.
09:06It's always a really interesting shot.
09:08It is.
09:09You see flat out, and then you watch.
09:12Get some of the brakes.
09:13That's amazing.
09:14It's an actual flat change here.
09:15They come off.
09:16No clutch use, Baz, for the actual change.
09:18Be clear and simple on-board telemetry.
09:21We've got it all covered here.
09:22Full throttle.
09:23Look at the way he just lifts that throttle just for a fraction of a second to pick the next gear.
09:27No clutch required in a V8 Super K.
09:29He just banged this gearbox through.
09:31Hard on the brakes down toward turn one.
09:35Just feathering the throttle.
09:36Full throttle as he approaches turn two.
09:39Look at the road speed down on the left-hand side of his screen.
09:43140 km an hour as he blasts out of here.
09:47Heads down the back straight up the fifth gear.
09:50Gets into sixth gear.
09:52And look at that road speed.
09:53Almost 250 km an hour on the approach to this very tight hairpin.
09:59Mark Larkham giving it everything in the Mitre 10-4 to try and close the gap to that Commodore pack up ahead of him.
10:04Mark Larkham really has been quite a good qualifying specialist.
10:22Awesome performance at Mount Panorama Bathurst last year.
10:26That 2.09 lap time.
10:28Soaring the Queensland as well in the qualifying session on the Friday.
10:32In Canberra rather, in the qualifying session on the Friday.
10:35Did exceptionally well there.
10:36And overnight had provisional pole this hit from the post during the top 15 shootout.
10:41But this is a track he knows very well.
10:44Now the problem he's facing is to try and chase down Garth Tander of this man, Russell Indle,
10:49in a bid to gain his first podium position in the Shell Championship.
10:52Smoke coming from the front right of Google's car.
10:57And it looks like the tyre's shining.
10:59So I don't know what it is.
11:01Or something.
11:02Just to see if we can get a look at it.
11:04It's front right-hand tyre.
11:06Craig Lowndes, meanwhile, maintaining that gap over Mark Scaife.
11:103.3 seconds at the moment.
11:13Lap times fairly consistent.
11:15Scaife's just gone about four-tenths of a second quick at that lap.
11:19But Lowndes continues to hold this race by the throat.
11:24Russell Indle some one second down the road from Scaife.
11:28This battle for third between himself and Garth Tander.
11:31Mark Larkham, who were just watching in fifth.
11:33And it's Seton Bargwana, Murphy Longhurst, and Stephen Johnson rounding out the top ten at the moment.
11:38Positions remaining fairly static.
11:40Greg Murphy doing quite well when you consider that he's gotten around Tony Longhurst
11:44and moved up to eighth position in the Kmart Commodore.
11:47Neil Crompton behind Paul Weill.
11:51Crompton had to have an engine change between races two and three.
11:55Finds himself back in fourth-th position at the moment.
11:58He was an outstanding performer on the streets of Canberra.
12:00He took his second career podium from the nation's capital.
12:06Mechanical luck not riding with Crompton today.
12:09Crompton will be 40 in August.
12:10And as you mentioned there, Mark, it hasn't been a great weekend for him.
12:14They were suffering some overheating during the course of the second race
12:17and developed a misfire as well as the team.
12:19Quite wisely changed the engine.
12:21This is the battle between Murphy and Longhurst.
12:23Eighth to ninth.
12:25And Lowndes remains on top as Longhurst gets down the inside of Greg Murphy
12:29and moves forward to position.
12:30The Holden Racing team out in front.
12:32Ingle third.
12:33Tander in fourth.
12:34But chasing the enforcer.
12:35Larkham the first of the forwards.
12:37Longhurst, Johnson, Bauer, Perkins.
12:38Still much more to come your way here from Queensland.
12:41Stay with us.
12:45Queensland Raceway is the venue.
12:48This is round seven.
12:49The halfway mark of the Shell Championship Series
12:51and Craig Lowndes on course for three from three here today.
12:56A great shot from up high.
12:58And our cherry picker.
12:59And you can see the sizable gap between himself
13:02and teammate Mark Scaife who sits in second place there.
13:05Russell Ingle is in third.
13:06Now we said at the top of this race
13:08that Russell, if he stayed where he was in third place
13:11would in fact end up on the podium for today.
13:14But there was some concern I guess
13:15about whether that 20 point penalty
13:17would come into effect straight away.
13:19It has in fact already been imposed.
13:21Russell has lost the 20 points.
13:23So at this rate Mark Larkham
13:25who is in fifth position
13:26should end up with his first ever Shell Series podium.
13:29That's also dependent on whether Garth Tander passes Ingle.
13:32Because if Tander gets in front of Ingle for third
13:34that'll give him equal points with Larkham.
13:36Do you feel good with a calculator?
13:37Yeah, fantastic, aren't I?
13:39I take my abacus with me everywhere.
13:42But they'll be equal on 94 points
13:44but because Tander was higher placed in the final race
13:48that'll put him on the podium.
13:49So a bit of a nail-biting finish here.
13:52See if Mark Larkham can get his first Shell Series
13:55told podium appearance.
13:57It's been a long time between drinks.
14:02Difficult career.
14:03VA supercars.
14:04Larkham currently 12th in the championship.
14:0656 rounds he's competed in
14:08and yet to stand on that podium.
14:09So it'll be a big day for the Mitre 10 team
14:11if he can pull that off.
14:12So some good stories to emerge
14:14from the Queensland round of the championship
14:15when you consider that if Tander manages
14:18to get on the podium as well
14:19that's a tremendous fight back
14:20given the sorts of problems
14:22the Gary Rogers motorsport team
14:23have suffered here this weekend.
14:24You ride with Albury's Brad Jones
14:26in the Aussie male forward.
14:27There's Craig Baird
14:28making a good fight back as well
14:30from the back of the grid.
14:31Baird suffering clutch problems
14:33now up to 19th
14:34and he's been in the walls too
14:35by the looks of things.
14:36Bit of a concertina
14:36and right in the middle of it.
14:38This is a battle of the back
14:39of the top 20.
14:40Craig Baird in 18th
14:42Brad Jones in 19th
14:45So...
14:46He's had a terrible weekend
14:47and played the head.
14:48It started pretty well, didn't it?
14:50His qualifying speed was good.
14:51They're stepping short
14:52the wheelbase of it hasn't been.
14:54A couple of points of interest
14:57for you too.
14:58A lot of teams in the coming weeks
14:59will finalise their driver line-ups
15:01for the endurance events.
15:03We hear that one person
15:05very much on the cards
15:07with Stone Brothers Racing
15:08is young David Bernard
15:10tested very well in the car.
15:12He will campaign
15:12in the upcoming V8 Lights rounds
15:15and has also driven
15:15Tony Longhurst's
15:17Caltex Haviland Ford.
15:18So watch for David Bernard
15:20as Stephen Richards
15:21dives down the inside
15:22of Queensland's
15:23Pearl Mars
15:23and will tell the place
15:24that Richard's going
15:25to position 16
15:26courtesy of that.
15:27But Bernard who
15:28has been touted
15:30as such an up-and-coming
15:31star, Mark.
15:32Good to see him
15:32in V8 Supercar Racing
15:34hopefully with Stone Brothers
15:35and it certainly looks like it
15:36for the Queensland 500
15:37and Bathurst.
15:38Yeah, it'll be great.
15:39Former Australian
15:40Formula 4 champion
15:41and very competitive
15:44in the American
15:46Formula 4 2000 scene.
15:49He's a guy with great talent.
15:50He's got to see Stone Brothers
15:51bringing on another
15:52young Australian hero
15:54in V8 Supercars.
15:56I'm looking forward
15:57to seeing him in action
15:58in the Konica V8 Lights race
15:59at Lakeside in August.
16:01Jason Barguana
16:02now in seventh position
16:03just holding out
16:04Tony Longhurst
16:05in the second
16:06of the Barbelline Cummins
16:07Commodores.
16:07This team
16:08found something
16:10in the morning
16:10warm-up here today
16:11that suddenly
16:12made these cars work.
16:13They had a great
16:14set-up from last season
16:15that they thought
16:16would be just fantastic
16:17heading into round seven
16:18but of course
16:19a lot of things
16:19have changed.
16:20The nature of this circuit
16:21and of course
16:22the introduction
16:23of a new Bridgestone
16:24control.
16:24Oh!
16:25Barguana has gone
16:26unloaded
16:27by Tony Longhurst.
16:28How hard was that?
16:31Yeah, exactly.
16:32Well.
16:33Mate,
16:35was there maybe
16:36a bit of a playback there?
16:37Wasn't there...
16:38Oh, I don't know.
16:39There was an incident
16:40in these two days.
16:41Yeah, you've got a good memory.
16:43Yeah, I know.
16:44I just was thinking.
16:45Well, Tony Longhurst
16:46sticks the nose
16:47on the Caltech
16:48Haveline Ford
16:48upside the Valvoline machine.
16:50Gives him a big serve.
16:53So Longhurst
16:53really charging
16:54very aggressive
16:55this afternoon
16:55on his home test track.
16:59So Longhurst
17:00moves up to
17:03seventh position.
17:05We're hearing from the pits
17:06that his steering wheel
17:07has gone all askew
17:08as a result of this collision.
17:09Look at this.
17:10What a...
17:11Oh, dear me.
17:12That was just
17:13sliding in nice and gently.
17:15He gave that a good whack
17:17and he reckons
17:17his steering wheel
17:18is at 45 degrees now.
17:19Oh, under pressure now.
17:21Greg Murphy down the inside.
17:22Murphy seizes the opportunity.
17:24Oh, and he's run
17:24off the wide
17:25deep under brakes.
17:26Stephen Johnson
17:27coming for the ride as well.
17:28So,
17:29a great battle
17:30going on here.
17:31Johnson has moved up a place.
17:32Longhurst has gone back too.
17:34And Murphy is the mover.
17:36Best of the Kiwis.
17:37Eighth position at the moment.
17:39Now, don't forget, of course,
17:40for those of you watching
17:40any of the V8 Supercar
17:42information you want.
17:43Race results,
17:44championship points,
17:44you name it.
17:45The official V8 Supercar website.
17:48V8Supercar.com.au
17:50It's all there for you.
17:51And, of course,
17:51the 10 website.

17:53You can check out
17:54the RPM link there

17:59Two laps remain.
18:01Three, in fact,
18:02where it will...
18:04Three laps remaining
18:05for our race leader
18:06Craig Lowes.
18:072.9 seconds.
18:08There's the gap
18:08over Mark Skate.
18:09Russell Ingalls
18:10some two and a half seconds
18:11behind the number two
18:12HRT Commodore.
18:13Those top three positions
18:14have remained static.
18:16Tander's still in port.
18:16Mark Larkham in field.
18:18But there's some fabulous
18:19battles going on
18:19back further in the pack.
18:21And this is one of them.
18:23John Bauer
18:24owning it on the back
18:25of Tony Longhurst.
18:26That's the battle for ninth.
18:27Let's look at the replay, Bers.
18:28Yeah, good move for them.
18:29For sure, Longhurst's got
18:30really struck them
18:31at the steering
18:32because John Bauer's
18:33hatched him up
18:34and he left him out.
18:36Murph seemed to struggle
18:37there mid-corner too,
18:38didn't he?
18:38It sort of understeered,
18:39but he managed
18:41to hang on to it.
18:42Here's our race leader
18:44continuing the Holden domination
18:49of the Shell Championship Series.
18:52They've taken all seven pole positions.
18:55They've taken all six round wins
18:57this year and very much
18:59looking like they're going
19:00to take number seven.
19:01So a total clean sweep
19:03for Holden so far
19:04in season 2000.
19:08There's been a lot of talk
19:09about the reverse grid format
19:10we saw for the first time
19:12at Canberra.
19:12A lot of people
19:14up and down pit lane
19:14talking about maybe
19:15that's a good thing
19:16to introduce to the Shell Series.
19:17Yeah, bring it on,
19:18I think, is the general comment,
19:19isn't it?
19:19I mean, it really did
19:20create some fantastic action
19:22in Canberra.
19:22The downside, I guess,
19:23to what you're talking about,
19:24Mark, is introducing
19:25something like that
19:26mid-season can be
19:27a little tough
19:28when someone's leading
19:29the championship,
19:30but I'm a big fan.
19:31I think it was terrific
19:31down there on the streets
19:32of Canberra.
19:33If it could work there,
19:34it certainly could work anywhere.
19:36I totally agree with that.
19:39I mean, I think all the
19:40poor wheel goes around
19:42and a good run today,
19:43I've been 13th position.
19:45I think all this talk
19:46about the performance
19:47review committee
19:47and dropping under trays
19:49and all this,
19:50this whole parity debate
19:51is just so emotional.
19:52Did you notice the Canberra
19:53when we had reverse good racing,
19:54no one talked about parity?
19:55It was no longer an issue.
19:57I mean, the point you're making
19:59is it is a concern, though.
20:00I mean, we've now had,
20:01at the end of this race,
20:02if Craig Lowndes wins it,
20:03HRT will have won
20:0514 of this season's
20:0620 races.
20:09Unbelievable.
20:11Paul Wheel
20:12is looking for a consistent run
20:13this weekend.
20:14He's been caught up
20:15in a lot of dramas.
20:17Final lap,
20:18less than three kilometres
20:19remaining for
20:20our race leader.
20:21This has been
20:22a repeat performance,
20:23what we saw in Barbagallo.
20:25Pole position,
20:26three race wins
20:26for Craig Lowndes.
20:27You can't do better than that.
20:28Rodney Forbes car
20:29on the walls there.
20:30The exhaust pipes
20:31almost touching the ground.
20:33They're on their final lap.
20:34Craig Lowndes
20:34heading for home
20:35as this battle
20:36further back in the pack
20:37continues
20:38between Stephen Ellery
20:39in the Superchip Autos
20:41and Rodney Forbes
20:43sporting several battle scars.
20:45Look at those
20:46the water pipes
20:46dragging on the ground
20:48in the Wins Commodore.
20:51Yeah, big damage.
20:52Look at me.
20:52Oh, look at the side.
20:54A couple of panel beaters
20:55rubbing their hands together
20:56waiting for that one.
20:59There's our man
21:00middle of the track
21:01for the final time.
21:03Craig Lowndes
21:0325-year-old
21:05defending Shell Series champion
21:06was lying in fourth place
21:08heading into this round
21:09and this will do
21:10his championship bid
21:11no end of good.
21:12Sure will.
21:14Important chance
21:14to close the gap
21:15has had some
21:16mechanical unreliability
21:17this year
21:17which has cost him
21:18big time
21:18in important races
21:19but this will be
21:20very important.
21:21He brings it on
21:21to the front straight
21:22for the final time.
21:23Checkered flag
21:24being laid
21:24for Craig Lowndes.
21:25He takes victory.
21:26Fantastic drive.
21:29Indeed it was a fantastic drive.
21:31Three from three
21:32and a Holden racing
21:33trifecta.
21:34Skate gets home second.
21:35Ingleford
21:36tanned a fourth
21:37and Larkham
21:38rounds out the five.
21:39They are just so
21:40very, very good HRT.
21:41I mean you can't
21:42take it away from them.
21:42There's no doubt
21:43you know
21:44you can sort of
21:45stick lead in the car
21:46penalise them
21:47or whatever
21:47but they came here
21:48sorted the cars out
21:49hadn't been here
21:50since the last race
21:52and every time
21:54they went out
21:54they improved their time
21:55they got better
21:56and better
21:57and better
21:57and they're just
21:57very, very good.
21:58That's all
21:59you know
21:59there's no excuse for it.
22:00Yeah, class action.
22:01It's just excellent.
22:03Now word we're getting through
22:04from our statistician
22:05Nigel Greenway
22:06is that
22:08Mark Larkham
22:09who finished fifth
22:10in that final race
22:11has earned himself
22:12his first ever
22:13Shell Championship Series podium.
22:15So great to see
22:16the Queenslander
22:17on the podium
22:19at the end of the day.
22:20That's a sensational result.
22:21There he is
22:21in the minor ten forward.
22:24Well done guys.
22:29Well, I think what he's saying was
22:31he's happy.
22:31He's delighted with that.
22:33Why wouldn't he be?
22:34Terrific performance
22:35from Mark Larkham.
22:38Fifth in the final race of the day.
22:40A good consistent performance
22:41in the minor ten
22:42racing forward
22:42and it's paid dividends.
22:43There they are.
22:44One and two.
22:45Lowndes and Scaife
22:46and that's how they finished
22:48all day here
22:48at Queensland Raceway.
22:51The Holden Racing Team
22:52conquer
22:52the Queensland track.
22:55We'll recap them for you.
22:58What a great day
22:59it's been here.
22:59The Holden fans rejoice.
23:02Ford have won
23:02just two races so far
23:04this season.
23:05Lowndes and Scaife on top.
23:06Ingle third.
23:07Tander.
23:08Larkham.
23:08His first podium.
23:10Seton Murphy.
23:10That's a good result
23:11from Murphy in fact
23:12in the Kmart Commodore.
23:13Stephen Johnson.
23:14The local.
23:14A good effort also
23:15rounding out the top eight.
23:16Then it's Longhurst,
23:17Bauer, Perkins and Crompton.
23:18We'll come back
23:19to wrap it all up
23:19on the other side of this.
23:21Up in the third race of the day
23:25he went from seventh
23:26to 19th
23:27after that tangle
23:28with Tony Longhurst.
23:29A couple of other
23:30movers for you
23:31in the third
23:31and final race of the day.
23:33Paul Radisic
23:33dropped from sixth position
23:35back down to 32nd
23:36courtesy of that
23:37broken gearbox.
23:38He retired in that one.
23:39Craig there though
23:40went the other way
23:40from position 32.
23:42He clawed his way up
23:43to 15th
23:43after changing the clutch
23:44after problems in race two.
23:46And Jason Barguana
23:47as we mentioned
23:47dropped to 19th.
23:48Murphy,
23:48another shaker and mover
23:49moving up a couple of positions
23:51in the final race of the day.
23:52Time for the podium presentation.
23:54Here is Mark Osler.
23:56Well if the Queensland Ford teams
23:57were hoping for
23:58a chance to knock off
24:00the Holdens on home soil
24:01it didn't work out
24:02this afternoon.
24:03Holden Racing Team
24:03once again dominant.
24:04In fact,
24:05in the last 30 races
24:06Holden have won
24:0728 of them.
24:08Quite incredible.
24:09But it's not all bad news
24:10for the Blue Oval fans
24:11this afternoon.
24:12Mark Larkham
24:12is taking his first
24:13podium position
24:14in the Shell Championship Series.
24:16Put your hands together
24:17for Mark Larkham.
24:18Like you said to me
24:24you've taken the long way
24:26to getting up these steps
24:27haven't you?
24:27It's been a long hard haul.
24:28Mate,
24:29I'm going to get back down there
24:29and climb back up here
24:30a couple of times.
24:31Look,
24:32I'd just like to say
24:32thanks to that bunch of guys
24:33down there
24:34dressed in blue
24:34gave me a great vehicle
24:35and probably more importantly
24:37fantastic to see the Ford fans
24:39out here today
24:39and hopefully give them
24:41a little bit to cheer for.
24:42Hope so.
24:42Hope to see you in action
24:43in the next round
24:44at Winton.
24:45Mark Larkham
24:45outstanding performance
24:46in the Mitre 10 Ford.
24:48In second place today
24:48our Championship Leader
24:49boy,
24:50I tell you what
24:50he's keeping that points table
24:51ticking over.
24:52Put your hands together
24:52for Mark Skae.
24:58That looked like
24:58a very clever drive
24:59to me today.
25:00You just kept those points
25:01ticking over
25:02slowly tuned the car up
25:03and you brought it home again.
25:05Now look,
25:05it was a great day
25:06for the Championship
25:06obviously we weren't
25:07really fast enough
25:08and we know sort of why
25:09and the car was really good
25:10in the last race
25:11especially I got caught
25:12with Engel and Tanner
25:13at the start
25:13it was a bit of a battle
25:14I didn't need to get
25:15escorted off the road
25:15so I had to be a bit clever
25:16about it
25:17and it was,
25:17as I said,
25:18a good result for our team.
25:19Were you surprised
25:20the Fords weren't
25:21actually at the point here
25:22like taking pole positions
25:23and wins here this weekend?
25:24I honestly thought
25:25they'd be really hard
25:25to beat here.
25:26I mean,
25:26Larkham's obviously been speedy
25:28but there's a couple of others
25:29that probably speed-wise
25:30were good enough
25:31didn't really get
25:32a good enough run.
25:33Put your hands together folks
25:36and continuing to build
25:37in this Championship battle.
25:39Right now I'd like to call
25:40on Communications Manager
25:41for the Shell Oil Company
25:42Charlotte Gould
25:43to make the presentation
25:44to our overall winner.
25:46Pole position
25:46and three race wins
25:47you can't do better than that
25:48Quake Lowndes!
25:56Go Holden!
25:57Go Holden!
25:58Here's the L.
25:59Boy oh boy
25:59didn't you go today?
26:00What an outstanding performance.
26:02That's really put you back
26:03in the Championship Battle.
26:03That was an incredible drive.
26:05Well the guys
26:06have done a fantastic job.
26:07Mobile Holden
26:08and Bridgestone
26:08really give us
26:09a great package.
26:11This was the track last year
26:12we probably didn't perform
26:13as well as we'd like to
26:14and really the guys
26:15have done a lot of effort.
26:16A lot of testing at Winton
26:16and it's really worked out
26:17well this weekend.
26:19Now of course
26:19the next round
26:19we go to Winton
26:20where you've had so much
26:21success in testing
26:22so can we expect
26:23this domination to continue?
26:24Well we hope so.
26:25Now the competition today
26:26is so tough.
26:28You know Mark Larkham
26:29said earlier in the week
26:29that maybe they'll suit
26:31the Winton circuit
26:32so you never know
26:33but Shigiri,
26:34I've looked after the car
26:35and hope Mrs Shigiri's
26:36going well
26:37and we'll be back tonight.
26:39Put your hands together folks.
26:40Craig Lowndes
26:41and a brand new
26:41Holden Racing Team Commodore
26:42taking it home to victory
26:44at Queensland Raceway.
26:45Seven rounds down
26:48and we see the Holden Racing Team
26:49on top again.
26:50Mark Scaife has increased
26:52his championship lead
26:53to a staggering 158 points
26:55from Glenn Seaton
26:56on 714.
26:58Garth Tander though
26:59courtesy of his effort
27:00here today
27:00has narrowed
27:01the gap between himself
27:02and Seaton.
27:03He's on 676 points
27:05and Craig Lowndes
27:05is also incredibly close
27:07after taking
27:07three race victories.
27:09Well it's been a wonderful day
27:10here at Queensland Raceway.
27:11I've got to say though Baz
27:12I thought the local based
27:13Ford teams would do better.
27:14Good to see Larco
27:15on the podium though.
27:16Well absolutely.
27:17I was convinced
27:17there was going to be
27:18a Ford win today
27:19but as you say
27:19Mark Larcom
27:20he's such a good guy
27:21he struggled really hard
27:22and that's good
27:23but you've got to hand it
27:24to Glowndes
27:25I mean he's a really class act.
27:26And the Holden Racing Team
27:27in fact they're just so good.
27:29But there's lots more
27:30motorsport coming your way
27:31right here on Network 10.
27:32It kicks off tomorrow night
27:33with Billy Woods
27:33and round nine
27:34of the Kart World Series.
27:36The race around the airport
27:37in Cleveland
27:38and joining him of course
27:39will be Neil Crompton.
27:39The V8 Superstars
27:40next Sunday
27:41do not miss that one.
27:42A special guest
27:43Tony Cochran
27:43in the studio
27:44and that is likely
27:45to create a lot of
27:46discussion indeed.
27:48And the following weekend
27:49round eight
27:49of the V8's
27:50Winton Motor Raceway
27:51in a fortnight's time
27:52from now
27:52three to five
27:53but as always
27:54check your local guides.
27:55On behalf of all of our team
27:56here at Queensland Raceway
27:57we trust you've enjoyed
27:58all of this afternoon's action.
27:59The championship looking good
28:00for Mark Scape at this stage.
28:02Let's see what happens
28:02in Victoria.
28:03Bye for now.
28:04Let's have a look at this
28:24from another angle.
28:25Oh, what happened there?
28:26The wheels come off.
28:39It's about the safety car
28:41out all the way.
28:41Oh, he's not a happy champion.
28:43Oh, he wants the river
28:44for John Bredge too.
28:46Oh, no, he's come off.
28:48Oh, this car's going.
28:49There must be something
28:50on the road.
28:51Oh, no, he's coming out.
28:57Oh, no, he's coming out.
29:05Oh, no, no, he's coming out.
29:10Oh, no, no, no, no.
29:10Oh, big crash in.
29:11He's going to have to try
29:12to pick some of that debris.
29:13Oh, no, no, he's sideways.
29:15He's left.
29:19Oh, no, no, no, no.
29:20Oh, this is Brad Jones!
29:23That's a big one over.
29:24Oh, my goodness, mate.
29:29The time's not problem for the fuel as well.
29:31Oh, there's been a flame. There's a flame here.
