00:00We're back at the Honda Indy 300 and yes, it was a hair-raising final qualifying session.
00:10More for Christian Fittipoli than anyone else, he put it into the wall and one can only guess
00:16as to how what looks like a wig has become entangled with his suspension.
00:21Now there have been strong winds here around Surfers Paradise and we're guessing that someone's
00:27car blew off and somehow got caught up with Christian's car.
00:30It had nothing to do with the actual crash.
00:32I think it's happened since the accident but gee, stranger things have happened on the amazing
00:37streets here at Surfers Paradise.
00:40Oh dear, for a moment there we thought it belonged to Darryl Beattie but we've cleared that up
00:44but it hasn't.
00:46But we're getting set for the V8 supercars, non-stop action here.
00:50They're about to roll off the line and we return to Greg Rust, Mark Osler and Barry Sheen
00:55who might have their own theories about what happened to Christian's car.
00:58Well Woodsy, you'll be pleased to know your replacement wig is on the way mate.
01:01We've been in contact with them so you'll be looking fine for the rest of this afternoon's
01:04telecast.
01:05The Rat, can they beat him?
01:07Unstoppable at the moment.
01:08It was so quick.
01:10The last round of the Shell Championship, Mark, and dominant this morning.
01:13I think that was in fact the remainder of the nylon straps that the cars carry inside
01:17their suspension arms to stop the wheels getting ripped off in accidents and it looks like
01:21it's done its job there.
01:22It's nice to know that their car ones work as well as the Formula 1's do, isn't it?
01:26Exactly, yeah.
01:27It saved a lot of dramas since they installed those.
01:31A lot of very tough fibres there and you can see them strung out very much looking like
01:36a wig billy in the suspension arm of the Lola.
01:41Here they come now.
01:42V8's back on track for Race 2 of the FAI Insurance V8 Challenge.
01:50Garth Tanner joining us again in commentary.
01:52Gee, the weather looks like it's pretty tough today, Garth.
01:55That tailwind has got very strong, hasn't it?
01:57Yeah, and it's actually, I was talking to a couple of guys and they say it's blown a lot
02:00of sand up onto the back straight as well.
02:02So that was something else for them to play around with.
02:05The concrete walls and the kerbs aren't hard enough.
02:07Here's how the grid looks for Race 2.
02:09Radisic and Ingle on the front row.
02:11Scaife and Lowndes on row 2.
02:13Barkwana and Larkham on the third row of the grid.
02:16And Longhurst and Brad Jones on row 4.
02:18Keep in mind these starting positions are from finishing positions from Race 1.
02:23And if you see their qualifying positions in those yellow boxes down the right-hand side of the screen,
02:27you get an idea of how they're going throughout the day.
02:29Paul Wheel, for instance, qualified 18th.
02:31Moved himself up to 9th, so he's having a good day.
02:34Neil Crompton qualified 13th.
02:3616th will start in this one.
02:38Larry Perkins and Romano on row 9.
02:40Tratt, young Tyler Mecklen.
02:42In the TDK Ultratune Commodore out of row 10.
02:44Ashby and Christian de Gost in row 11.
02:46Rodney Crick and Cameron McCondall in the 12th row.
02:49John Bow, in fact, will not be making the start.
02:52We hear that some rubbish blew into the engine's cooling scoop on the front.
02:57Spoiler overheated the engine.
02:59So the Cat Ford will not be taken to the track in Race 2.
03:02He's had a rotten year, JV, hasn't he?
03:04Just another victim of this debris that's blowing around at Surface Paradise.
03:07Very strong northerly wind.
03:09There's a lot of dirt and dust and chip packets and everything flying everywhere.
03:12You're standing in pit lane.
03:13Very, very strong winds.
03:15I tell you what, if you've sold eye drops, you'll make a few bombs.
03:18I hate so much grit and stuff.
03:20Oh, it's horrible.
03:21I reckon I've got a couple of spoonfuls in there now.
03:23So here they come.
03:25New hostilities.
03:26The V8 supercars.
03:284.5 kilometre.
03:30Surface Paradise.
03:31Street circuit.
03:32One of the most spectacular you'll find anywhere in the world.
03:34Amazing setting.
03:35Here's Mark Larkham.
03:37Going in-car camera.
03:38Mitre 10 forward.
03:40Scored his first Shell Series heat win earlier this year at Calder.
03:45Calder.
03:46And, of course, he was the man who just set the track on fire at Mount Panorama last year.
03:51Took that surprise pole position.
03:54And he's building up.
03:56Car looking in good form.
03:58Only four weeks away from the FAI 1000 at Mount Panorama.
04:02Neil Crompton carrying another of our onboard cameras.
04:06The Ford Livet camera.
04:07It's got a busy weekend so far, Cromley.
04:09We'll be joining our commentary team tomorrow for the Honda Indy 300 as well.
04:14Well, there's that out about the dominant force on the streets of Surfers Paradise
04:18is Dick Johnston Racing, the local team.
04:20They've won eight of the 12 races held here so far.
04:23Four by John Bauer.
04:25The other four by, of course, the Rat, Paul Radisic.
04:28So Radisic now perfectly poised to increase that score.
04:33Make it 5-4.
04:35The battle with John Bauer for the most race wins on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
04:39Driving a Dick Johnston prepared shell forward.
04:42Great shots here.
04:44Marvellous carnival atmosphere.
04:46Wind might be blowing but the sun's out.
04:49Beautiful warm day.
04:50Yeah, proper surfers weather again now.
04:53Locals tell me it's been blowing a gale here for quite a number of weeks.
04:57Well, it has but it only started waiting for rain for three months and then it has to start the day Indy starts.
05:03Great shot there.
05:04Gives you a panoramic view.
05:06You can see the main straight they're coming onto now.
05:09Normally serves as the southern side of the Gold Coast Highway.
05:14Now becomes the high speed pit straight or main straight if you like.
05:19Comes past the pit areas, the corporate areas.
05:23It's going to be interesting to see if Ingle gets away first this time.
05:27If he's going to be as nice.
05:30No.
05:31I wouldn't think so.
05:32He got a ribbing from the boys.
05:33Did he?
05:34I bet Sean got stuck in too.
05:36Yeah, absolutely.
05:37I think we'll see the old Enforcer back in this one.
05:40The drag race for the start.
05:41That's what happened in race one and Russell just managed to out break the rat.
05:45But it was a dogfight from there on in.
05:46The revs start to rise.
05:47Race two in the FAI V8 supercar showdown here on the streets of Surfers.
05:53Away we go.
05:54The rat gets a blinder of a start.
05:55Russell trying to stay with him.
05:56No.
05:57But the rat has got the run as they head towards turn one for the first time.
06:00The Red Barons in tow.
06:01Scape and Lowndes Barkwana is also there like a magnet with them at the moment.
06:06But the rat will lead them through the first chicane.
06:08Well he knows how to get that.
06:10Oh!
06:11We have Jones.
06:12Now can he get in the way without too much damage?
06:14Oh!
06:15Forgsy.
06:16Oh dear me.
06:17That was the third of the Gibson Motorsport Commodores there.
06:19Oh Larry Perkins.
06:20Prepared by Rod.
06:22Well driven by Rodney Forbes I should say.
06:24Brad Jones gets back in the action.
06:25He says three.
06:27Commodores from the same stable.
06:30Copping some damage this weekend.
06:31Boy it can be bad for some teams and glorious for others.
06:34Paul Radisic enjoying himself at the moment.
06:36Tell you what.
06:37Cromley should go out and buy himself a lottery ticket shouldn't he?
06:39He's avoided that one today at the earlier altercations so.
06:41Well it's about time.
06:43It's got a bit of clear air wouldn't it?
06:46Exactly right.
06:47A bit of luck would like it.
06:48Oh!
06:49It's a poor wheel.
06:50And that is rotten luck for the local driver who'd been showing some good form here in
06:54these V8 supercar races.
06:55A top ten finish in race one in the brand new, or virtually brand new K&J Ford.
06:59They debuted that car last weekend at Sandow.
07:03Of course this weekend has actually opted to step into the spare car for safety purposes.
07:08Yeah, he's actually sold that one to Dean Kando and Dean's picking it up tomorrow night.
07:13Let's have a look at the replay go.
07:15Oh, a bit of a nudge from Paul Wheel.
07:16You don't know.
07:17I mean he could probably, by the looks of things, everyone was leaning on everyone.
07:20And away you go.
07:22Oh, ouch.
07:23I was surprised they all made it through that first chicane, the first one.
07:25Yeah.
07:26I didn't know they'd do it in the second race.
07:28Rodney Forbes gets a hammering right along the side of his car.
07:32Let's have a look at this again.
07:33Wheel and Jones.
07:35Mmm.
07:36And I think Brad Jones is very, very lucky when you see the damage that's happened to
07:40cars that have got caught out in that chicane.
07:42Look at Lomer so cold.
07:44Pretty lucky through there.
07:45He got away very lightly, indeed.
07:47They are treacherous opening corners, aren't they?
07:50Big pack of V8s thundering down to this funnel.
07:53All sorts of things can happen.
07:55Let's have a look at this on the inside.
07:57Neil Crompton.
07:58Watch how he gets out of this.
08:01Oh, which way do you go?
08:03Oh, that's right.
08:04Well, that's just the problem.
08:06Because of the walls, you just don't know where to go.
08:08You've got nowhere to go.
08:09And all you've got to do is minimize the amount of damage that you're going to sustain in
08:12that sort of incident.
08:13And you've got a 50-50 chance of getting it right, haven't you?
08:15Well, you have.
08:16Either the hole will open up, it'll get closed very quickly.
08:18So Paul Radisic, under safety car conditions, is allowed to avoid that chicane.
08:25Drives straight ahead and allows the crash crews to get on with the recovery of the K&J
08:29thermal car.
08:30And once they get this car out of the way, we'll be able to return to green flag racing conditions.
08:35Damage doesn't look too bad, Garth.
08:36No, it actually looked a lot worse from that other shot.
08:38But it looks like hopefully Paul might be able to strap himself back in and get back into it.
08:43Well, we're under safety car conditions here on the Gold Coast.
08:46The Rat leading from Russell Ingle, then it's the HRT duo.
08:49More V8 Supercar action coming your way in a moment.
08:52Nice to have you with us wherever you're watching.
09:04Network 10's coverage of Honda Indy on the Gold Coast.
09:07This is Race 2 on the V8 Supercar Challenge.
09:11Proudly brought to you by FAI Insurance.
09:13Got a great battle here too.
09:14Now looks may be deceiving you.
09:16Brett Jones is not leading this race.
09:17He had to peel off after the crash damage he incurred at the chicane.
09:22They made some repairs.
09:23He's come back in just in front of the field.
09:25He's going to get a lot of television coverage.
09:27Yeah, Paul Radicic flashing his lights telling Brad Jones to get out of the way.
09:31There's a steam train coming through.
09:32And the Rat is playing a lone hand here.
09:35One forward against the train of Commodores.
09:37Look at them.
09:38One, two, three, four.
09:39Up behind the shelf after two.
09:41Radicic is going to look for a nice clean pass on Brad Jones
09:44and hopefully put the Aussie mail forward between him and the Holden pack.
09:48Craig Lowndes at the moment sits in third position there.
09:50Your Honda Race Corps shows you he's ahead of teammate Mark Scaife.
09:54Jason Barguana staying in touch.
09:56The Enforcer will want him out of there.
09:59Oh, quickly.
10:00That's right off of Russell's Christmas card list if you don't get out of the way.
10:03No, giving everyone racing room.
10:04He's a lap car.
10:05Very good.
10:06That's the right sort of behaviour.
10:08Brad Jones lets the leaders charge through.
10:11Paul Radicic all on his own at the front with the Enforcer in close pursuit.
10:17Mark Scaife.
10:19Craig Lowndes.
10:20Holden Racing Team duo.
10:22And it's Jason Barguana.
10:23Mark Larkham.
10:24Tony Longhurst.
10:25Craig Baird.
10:26Finds himself up in the top ten.
10:27Steven Johnson.
10:28Steve Reid in there too.
10:29It's early days Garth.
10:30But it looks as though Barg's car is staying more in touch with the guys in front.
10:33Has there been some changes made between race one?
10:35Yeah, we made quite a few changes to Barg's car.
10:38It was struggling to put the power down coming out of the slow second gear corners.
10:43So it changed rear springs and changed the shocks.
10:45Yeah, it looks like he can keep in touch with the HRT cars.
10:48We need to find a little bit more by the looks of things for maybe for the next one.
10:52And did you change the springs and shocks yourself Garth?
10:54No, no.
10:55I let the guys do it.
10:56They don't like it when I do work on the car.
10:58Where's your sense of...
10:59I just thought you had nothing else to do.
11:00Part of the team.
11:01It's when you walk around with that bit in your hand and say,
11:03well, what about this?
11:04Where does this come from?
11:06I had a shock absorber left there right now.
11:08Russell Engel is under siege here from Craig Lowndes.
11:10He was monstering the kerb through the Foster chicane just moments ago.
11:14And Lowndes has pulled a car length clear on his teammate Mark Scaife,
11:17who's also under attack from Jason Bargwana.
11:20The rat is the man who is in command out in front.
11:23Boy, they've got that Ford working well at the moment.
11:26It's one thing to have horsepower, but you've got to be able to put it to the road.
11:29This shell car chassis.
11:31Garth Tender seems to be working particularly well around here.
11:33Well, yeah.
11:34The shell cars probably at the start of the year really weren't that good at putting the power to the ground.
11:38I know Paul was complaining about it quite a lot.
11:40So they've obviously managed to turn that around.
11:42And in a place like here at India, it's the most critical part of setting your car up.
11:46Do you think the change to the Ford front bumper has been crucial in helping that?
11:50Oh, look, I think from what the Ford guys are saying, they're saying it makes the car less sensitive.
11:57I mean, that's the problem they seem to be having is either the car was excellent
12:01or it was really bad with the old front splitter.
12:03Now it seems more consistent.
12:04Yep.
12:05And they can go from track to track and not have to completely re-engineer the car.
12:08Because the general consensus was that no matter what you did with the car,
12:11it didn't seem to make any difference.
12:13Well, yeah, I mean, I know Paul was saying that it was very pitch sensitive,
12:16and that means it had the angle of the front splitter.
12:19And now with the common undertray, it seems to be that they could run it pretty much how they want
12:25and then set the carp around that.
12:27Russell Ingle in the Castrol Commodore, the 36-year-old,
12:31originally born in the United Kingdom,
12:34spent his growing years in Abilade in South Australia.
12:37Oh, look, he gets sideways under brakes.
12:39Almost locked up the rear brakes on the turn-in to Welcom Esses.
12:43Stephen Johnson locked in a battle here with Craig Bear a little bit further back in the pack.
12:47Stephen Johnson up to ninth from starting 14th on the grid.
12:51So he's on a real charge, the Queenslander.
12:53I think some of the guys in the DJR pit might be scratching their heads
12:58because this is a real turn-about in form for Stephen Johnson.
13:02He's been languishing by his own standards well down the order this season.
13:06The car he's driving is the car that Paul Radisic has been campaigning for most of the year.
13:11Paul, of course, in a new car and it seems to be helping.
13:14Yeah, how things work out for the team.
13:17Paul Radisic's driving that brand-new Shell 18 Ford that was debuted.
13:21All problems in Larry Perkins.
13:22Oh, Larry.
13:23That's Russell Ingle.
13:24That's Larry.
13:25It is Larry.
13:26That's down the back of the pack.
13:27He's got smoke pouring from the back of the car.
13:29Look at the damage on the front as well.
13:30Ding of the wall with the looks of it.
13:32Do you think their differential problem's gone for?
13:34Oh, no, I think he's just narrowed his Commodore a couple of inches on one side.
13:39So he's used the tyre barrier to do it.
13:41It's incredibly hard to distinguish these cars now that they've got the same paint scheme.
13:44On board with Neil Crompton.
13:46Yeah, good move here.
13:47And the brakes coming down to the Welcom S's.
13:49Yeah, I have to say with that paint system thing, it was much better when...
13:53Oh, look at that.
13:54That's what was going on.
13:55Looks as though Larry tried to come through on John Faulkner as well, but unsuccessful.
14:01There's Christian de Goston.
14:03And his race looks like it's over for the day, too.
14:05That's a shame, the Commodore Cup competitor.
14:08He's done very well in the lower formula, having his first taste of V8 supercar racing on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
14:15Not the way he wanted to finish the day.
14:17Here's the battle for the lead, though.
14:18Craig Lowndes cannot get past the Enforcer no matter what he tries.
14:22And you can just see there, in the cold air intake in the front of Russell Ingalls' car, a chip packet.
14:28Some sort of rubbish caught there, just an indication of how much is blowing around the streets here in this gusty northerly wind.
14:34Let's have a look at this again. Look, Larry behind. He's locked up the brakes.
14:38And he's sandwiched himself between Faulkner's car and the wall.
14:42Yeah, you run a lot of rear bias on the brakes here because it's so bumpy.
14:46And so it looks like it's just caught Larry out a little bit.
14:49Can you explain that to the people at home, Garth?
14:51Why you would run a lot of rearward brake bias on a bumpy circuit? What's the advantage?
14:55Well, it's basically to stop the front wheels from locking up.
14:57Because with the engine and all the weight over the front of the car,
15:00the car bounces a lot and it just unloads the front wheel and it'll lock up.
15:04So you just have to run as much rear bias as you can take.
15:07And it looks like Larry might have had a little bit too much rear bias.
15:09A little bit more than it could take.
15:110.9 of a second, the gap between our leader, Paul Radisic, and Russell Ingalls, who's in second place there.
15:17Now, we'll keep an eye on the Enforcers' progress.
15:19There's a bit of rubbish, as Mark mentioned, in the front splitter area of that car.
15:23And that was what was responsible for John Bauer's demise at engine problems.
15:28The car overheated at the completion of race one, and he is a non-starter in this one in the Caterpillar Ford.
15:33So Paul Radisic continues to punch out fast laps.
15:37The fastest man on the circuit, though, this time around is Craig Lowndes.
15:40A 1.54.27 for the Holton Racing Team driver.
15:43Look at him crying so hard to close the gap to the Enforcer.
15:46Not able to do anything about it, but a single file at the moment.
15:50He's trying to set Russell up for an overtaking manoeuvre.
15:53Looks like Russell's putting out a bit on...
15:56Well, he's catching up to Radisic.
15:59Paul Radisic, a Ford hero.
16:02Really has been toward the end of 2000.
16:05That dominant performance at Sandown last weekend.
16:08Now he's well in command on home soil.
16:1137-year-old Kiwi International from Auckland, New Zealand.
16:15Former factory driver with Ford and Peugeot.
16:18And there's Larry.
16:19Now to the car.
16:21So he's taking an early break from proceedings.
16:24Paul Radisic looking in.
16:27Quite dominant form at the approach to Mount Panorama.
16:31The change for Mark Scaife in this race doesn't seem to be able to stay as in touch with Craig Lowndes as race one.
16:36Yeah, maybe they've tried for a different set up.
16:39Because you also have to be taken into account when the Indy cars go out.
16:42They leave a lot of rubber down.
16:43So the track changes considerably every time you're on it.
16:45And they might have just gone a little bit the wrong way the wrong way in these suspension seats.
16:51Well Craig Lowndes aggressive style may be spectacular to watch.
16:54But he has been given a warning from the officials for kerb hopping.
16:57Same to Paul Morris.
16:59And the officials are watching very, very closely for drivers that are chopping this circuit down too much.
17:06Be very, very careful.
17:07Very accurate around here.
17:09Concrete walls either side of you.
17:11There's no runoff areas.
17:12Oh, look at this.
17:13Oh!
17:14Really close behind the Castrol Commodore.
17:16Three laps remaining for our race leader Paul Radisic.
17:19Can Craig Lowndes find a way past the Enforcer?
17:22At the moment, the Castrol Commodore looks about 20 feet wide.
17:26We know that it's a bit of a concrete canyon here, Garth.
17:28But I mean, how physical is it to drive the eight supercar around the streets of surface?
17:32It's actually one of the more physical tracks we go to.
17:34It's probably up there with the likes of Adelaide and Canberra as far as being tough.
17:37These street circuits tend to be like that because you do have to use the kerbs to get the ultimate speed out of the car.
17:43It takes a bit out of you.
17:44And obviously with a lot of gear shifts around here also, it's one of the tougher ones.
17:48And also with the heat staying inside the concrete canyon, you definitely have to earn your money, that's for sure.
17:53It'd be alright for a supreme athlete like Greg though, wouldn't it?
17:56Well, yeah, I think so.
17:57Oh, sit down.
18:00Radisic is the man who's out in front from Russell Ingle.
18:03And Lowndes staying in touch here.
18:06Scaife is out of the picture though.
18:08He's a good series of car lengths further back.
18:12That would have to be, fitness would have to be one of your fortes, wouldn't it, Garth?
18:16Because I remember in Adelaide when everybody was getting out in that kerbs and it's pretty much okay.
18:21Well, it's just one more thing that's part of being a racing car driver nowadays.
18:25Really, you have to do a fair bit of training and it's no secret that all the F1 guys and all the IndyCar guys are very fit.
18:32And also we're doing a lot more middle distance and long distance races and fitness is a very key part of that.
18:38And the key there, I guess, is specific fitness, isn't it?
18:41It's not that it's going to the gym and pumping weights for half an hour.
18:44You actually have a very controlled scientific program, don't you?
18:47Well, you do.
18:48I mean, I work more on having muscle fitness that'll last over a three or four hour period rather than a five minute period.
18:59Endurance training.
19:00Yeah, more endurance type stuff.
19:02A lot of running, a lot of bike riding, that sort of stuff.
19:04Paul Morris in the Big Kev Commodore.
19:06You notice he's running the VS Commodore this weekend, not the VT that he recently acquired.
19:11The team looking after that car for Bathurst.
19:13There is some talk that they'll run two cars at Bathurst as the dual continues between Anthony Tratt.
19:18You got him.
19:19And muscling back past him was John Faulkner.
19:21And he almost got alongside him before.
19:23And Tyler Mecklem in the altitude TDK car, he finds a way through as well.
19:27So, Anthony Tratt really under pressure here from these storming Commodores.
19:32Loses two places as they come hammering through.
19:35Two laps remaining for our race leader, Paul Radisic.
19:38One second now.
19:39The lead over Russell Ingle and Craig Lowndes in that battle for second.
19:42Mark Scaife in third.
19:44This will make it five race wins in a row for Ford.
19:47At this stage, young Tyler Mecklem in the battle here between Faulkner and Anthony Tratt doing a good job.
19:54The TDK Ultra-Tuned Commodore, a 23-year-old from Carlingford in New South Wales.
19:59He's had a bit of a stint in the Ford in recent years and enjoying only his second drive in a V8 Supercar.
20:04Or third drive, I should say.
20:05Look at the damage on Anthony Tratt's Falcon.
20:07It's copped the short back of sides.
20:08Now he's got Cameron McConville and the Repco Commodore coming up behind him.
20:12So I wonder if he's going to fight right down to the wire with him.
20:15Great battles.
20:16We always see this in V8 Supercar racing.
20:18A number of battles right throughout the pack.
20:21Quickly to run you through the top ten.
20:24It's Radisic, Ingle, Craig Lowndes, Mark Scaife, Jason Barguana, Larkham, Longhurst, Steve Johnson, Craig Baird in ninth.
20:31And a good performance from Steve Reid, the Sydney Sider in tenth position in the Vs Optus Commodore.
20:36It's a great job by Tyler Mecklem.
20:38The Altitude TDK machine.
20:41Former Formula Ford racer.
20:43He's had a lot of experience in V8 Supercars.
20:46He's mixing it here with some known names.
20:49John Faulkner in the Asia Online machine.
20:51Cameron McConville.
20:52He's a pretty experienced campaigner too.
20:54Here's Mark Larkham.
20:56Tony Longhurst and Stephen Johnson continuing his charge.
20:59He's up to eighth.
21:00Up to starting.
21:01Fourteenth on the grid.
21:02So he's having a good afternoon.
21:06It's the battle for sixth position.
21:08Mark Larkham in sixth.
21:10Tony Longhurst in seventh.
21:12Stephen Johnson in eighth.
21:13Craig Baird's a bit further behind him.
21:14And Steve Reid in.
21:16The Optus Lansvour Commodore rounds out the top ten.
21:18One more lap remaining for Paul Radisic.
21:20Four point five kilometres of surface.
21:22Paradise Raceway to go.
21:25What a commanding performance from Radisic.
21:27Cleaned up in 1999 here.
21:29And is certainly on course at the moment to do that again.
21:32An immense morale boost for the Dick Johnson racing team.
21:35It started pretty much last weekend at Sandown.
21:38And continuing on the streets of the Gold Coast.
21:40Second being held down by the enforcer, Russell Ingle.
21:43And then it's Lowndes.
21:44And the enforcer unable to do much about the ramp.
21:46Wow.
21:47Radisic, he's just got it under control, didn't he?
21:49As soon as Ingle pulls in a little bit.
21:51So then Radisic pulls it out again.
21:54So I wouldn't say he's too worried.
21:56Would you go?
21:57Nah, it looks like you say, Barry.
21:58He's just going as fast as he needs to go.
22:00And really, as soon as Russell does close it in,
22:02he just puts in a bit of a flyer.
22:03And then back in the conservative mode.
22:05But I thought Russell's having to work pretty hard
22:07to keep Clownsy behind.
22:08Clowns is darting left, darting right.
22:11If anybody can do it, Russell can.
22:13Well, I don't think you'll let anyone else pass
22:15after that effort in the first race.
22:17Yeah, got the ripping from the
22:19Castrol-Perkins team after that one.
22:21Letting Radisic sneak down the inside.
22:23Coming up to World Comp S.
22:24It's the first lap around in race one.
22:26It's quite hysterical.
22:27You know, Sean is the guy in the team.
22:29It's hysterical here.
22:30Oh, the Louns is hearing him have a go at Russell.
22:34Tries to sneak around the outside,
22:36but that's not the place to be.
22:37Conrad Jupiter's turn.
22:38Russell Ingle just has to keep it cool here.
22:40One mistake, and Craig Louns will pounce.
22:42Oh, look at this!
22:44Russell's on the inside again.
22:46He's got the covering option.
22:48The options are running out the Louns though, aren't they?
22:50He is all over the back of the Castrol Comet.
22:52Yes!
22:53Yes!
22:54Look at Louns!
22:55Look at Louns!
22:56Oh!
22:57Shuts him out!
22:58Whoa!
22:59Look at that!
23:00Ingle shuts him out.
23:01And that's, I think, the way they will stay.
23:03Hats off to the Rad though.
23:05Second race here on the Gold Coast.
23:07The FAI V8 Supercar Challenge Race 2.
23:10Two starts, two wins for the Shell Helix Ford driver.
23:13Ingle home in second position after an immense dogfight with Craig Louns.
23:18Well, Paul Radisic creates his own little bit of history there.
23:21The fifth win for the Kiwi International on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
23:24That's a new record for the most wins by a V8 Supercar driver.
23:28So he loves this place.
23:29Keep in mind he's done that in succession too, Mark.
23:31Yeah.
23:32Three last year.
23:33Two so far this year.
23:34And folks, another one coming your way tomorrow as well.
23:37Can he make it three from three?
23:38Six from six.
23:39Paul Radisic is on a roll.
23:41There he is.
23:42He's only a small man in stature.
23:44When he gets behind the wheel, he is giant.
23:46DJ.
23:47DJ's happy.
23:48Yeah.
23:49You haven't seen him smiling like that all season.
23:52But in the last couple of weeks it's a different story.
23:54He can afford to smile too.
23:56I know he was a bit miffed throughout the season.
23:59A lot of attention being played on the Stane Brothers.
24:01Felt that they were getting all the kudos for being the best engineered Ford team in the country.
24:06But the Shell Fords really fighting back at the important end of the season.
24:11Particularly when you consider that his teammate Stephen Johnson finished a credible 7th place as well Mark.
24:16That's one of his best efforts of the year.
24:17Well that was a real charge.
24:1814th on the grid.
24:19Up to 7th.
24:20So Stephen Johnson's pushing very hard away there.
24:23A acknowledgement from Craig Lowndes.
24:26But our Ford fortunes are turned round about aren't they?
24:29It's extraordinary isn't it?
24:31Just until we get that 100mm back for Bathurst though.
24:34Oh you blokes never stop.
24:37Never miss, never miss.
24:38Never miss.
24:39Well I think what it does set up though Garth Fander is a tremendous battle on Mount Panorama.
24:45This is going to be a thriller.
24:46We say it every year but the competition is going to be tremendous.
24:49Yeah it is.
24:50It's going to be a great race and it is good to have Ford win.
24:52Finally.
24:53Let's recap them for you.
24:54After race 2.
24:55Radisic the man on top from Russell Ingle.
24:57Lowndes, Scaife, Bargwana.
24:59In fit.
25:00Mark Larkham's 6th.
25:01Heading up a trio of Fords.
25:02The others Johnson and Tony Longhurst.
25:04Craig Baird and Steve Reid rounded out the top 10.
25:07Rodney Forbes.
25:08So he got caught up in that collision.
25:09But he managed to survive.
25:10Neil Crompit.
25:11Paul Morris.
25:12John Faulkner.
25:13Tyler Mecklen.
25:14Good performance of that in the Ultratune.
25:15TDK machine.
25:16And Anthony Trak at 16.
25:17Further back it's McConville, Romano, McDougal and Christian D'Agoston who is a non-finisher.
25:22More from our coverage of Honda Indy in just a few moments.
