00:00Wherever you're watching around the world, around the country, welcome back to Barba Gallo Raceway
00:07for the Chill Perth 360, the final two races of this weekend.
00:13And now we go into 100km mode after yesterday's 60-60 super sprint format taken out by Craig Lowndes.
00:21This is our venue, an arena-like atmosphere, the fourth event out of 14 on the calendar.
00:27And as you suggested, Matt, what happens today is we stretch this race out
00:32and the really big question is going to be how everybody deals with their tyre,
00:35where all the other figures will dissipate because the thing that's going to matter is
00:38whether or not you can make your tyres run the full 100km distance over the 42 laps
00:43or whether, in fact, you need to stop.
00:45And if so, when do you do that and will there be a Peders STP safety car intervention?
00:50So that is the fascinating question and we're looking forward to the answer.
00:53Can't wait for this one.
00:54Neil, and a lot of that will be around the drivability of the race car.
00:57I'm down here with Lee Holdsworth in the Erebus AMG Mercedes.
01:00In position 15, mate, a lot in the press this week about some changes to the motor of your car
01:05for drivability reasons.
01:07Yeah, that's right.
01:07It's just at the moment the car is so much easier to drive.
01:10Better drivability means a smoother power delivery out of the corner
01:13so it's easier to get out of the corner and get the power to the ground.
01:17Thanks, Lee.
01:17Good luck with that.
01:18Now, let's just have a quick look.
01:19These guys probably won't be too happy about me doing this, but we'll lift the bonnet on the car.
01:23Look at that beautiful carbon fibre.
01:25Now, that's the air box that goes into the engine.
01:28Previously, what this car had was a butterfly here and here that opened with the throttle
01:32that allowed the air to go into this plenum.
01:34That didn't work particularly well for drivability.
01:36What they now have under there, like all the rest of the cars on the grid here, is eight little butterflies.
01:41Why do you need the drivability?
01:42Quickly, look at the tarmac here.
01:44If I do that with my bit of chalk, see that?
01:46There's no binder left because of the sand around here.
01:49The stone's protruding.
01:50That's what makes it so hard at Wanneroo.
01:53It says now with the winning formula on his door opener there, Fabian Coulthard, my little Kiwi mate.
01:59Mate, it's tough out there to put all the sectors together.
02:01You've done well fourth in both races, but how hard is it to get that sink right?
02:05Oh, look, around here, it's such a short lap, only five corners.
02:09He pretty much got to nail it on the first or second lap, but we didn't quite get the phasing right.
02:13But, you know, four for both races isn't too bad.
02:16Yeah, yesterday, obviously, running pretty strong, had that issue with the tyre.
02:19Did you sense that that had gone down before you got on the brakes going into the last corner?
02:23No, no warning whatsoever.
02:24As soon as I hit the brake, it just locked the left front.
02:26And, you know, obviously, because it was deflated and flat, and I went through the beach and got out the other side.
02:31And it was a slow lap of Barbagallo back to the pits.
02:35Good luck, mate, for these two races.
02:36Fabian Coulthard, his teammate, Jason Bright, will start this race from pole position.
02:43Will Davison on the front row of the grid for the first time this season.
02:48And remember, he came into this weekend as the championship leader.
02:52He's now in second.
02:54Just 19 points behind Jamie Winkup, Craig Lowndes.
02:58Getting maximum points yesterday.
03:00And there's Bright on that championship list in fourth.
03:03One minute.
03:04Will's brother, Alex Davison, is doing a terrific job this weekend in the GELWIN FPR Ford.
03:10We just saw him alongside Jamie Winkup, so Alex qualifying sixth.
03:14Chas Mostert, 21 years of age.
03:15If he weren't with us yesterday, Chas made his full-time V8 supercar debut.
03:20He's slotted into Dick Johnson racing with the help of Ford Performance Racing.
03:24And he's taken over car number 12 for Johnny Reed.
03:28Scott McLaughlin, a youngster.
03:31Boy, we've got some young talent.
03:33Out there.
03:33Scott will start from position number 12.
03:38After getting his first career win, becoming the youngest ever race winner in the V8 supercar championship at our last round in New Zealand.
03:45Cut yourself off at the end.
03:50Safety car, we're not in clear.
03:53Okay, thank you, safety car.
03:55So remember, they've already done two qualifying sessions today.
04:01Back to back.
04:02Green flag, formation lap commencing.
04:05Brian would want to make the most of this one.
04:06Let's check out the FUSO starting grid for race number 11 of this 36 race championship for 2013.
04:16It will be Bright and Will Davison off the front row.
04:18Then Craig Lowndes, Fabian Coulthard.
04:20Positions three and four on row two.
04:22Five and six, Wincup and Davison.
04:25This time it's brother Alex Davison that we focus on.
04:28Then Mark Winterbottom alongside James Courtney.
04:30Ford versus Holden, seven and eight.
04:32Positions nine and ten, David Reynolds and Shane Van Gisburgh.
04:35And Shane's been a bit quiet since that strong win at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
04:39And how's this on debut?
04:40Chas Mostert, he's alongside the other rookie sensation of 2013, Scotty McLaughlin.
04:46James Moffat has been leading the wave for Nissan this weekend.
04:49We just had a chat with Lee Holdsworth for Irwin Racing and the Erebus Motorsport AMG Mercedes.
04:55Mauro Engel has been qualifying quite well, although for this one he will start back in 18th.
05:00Michael Caruso with Todd Kelly.
05:03So Nissan side by side there and Tim Slade with Dino Fiore.
05:06A local boy who has a very busy time at this event.
05:11There's a lot of focus from media and he loves it.
05:15Born in Kalgoorlie with Garth Tander, the two WA drivers in the field.
05:20And to the rear of the grid, Russell Engel who was penalised some spots because of an infringement yesterday.
05:29His involvement with the David Walls.
05:31So Russell was due to go back to the rear of the grid.
05:33But Alex Premmer, courtesy of leaving pit lane unlawfully, has now been given that spot.
05:39He was excluded from the qualifying session.
05:45That is the enforcer.
05:47And there is Jamie Winkup.
05:58Four pole positions for the year.
06:00Make that five.
06:01Thank you very much.
06:04Just the one race win.
06:05Mark Winterbottom moved into the top ten in the championship yesterday after being on the podium.
06:12The voice of our race director, Tim Schenken, in the background.
06:25And he does a great job of managing these affairs.
06:27We're just about set to get the green flag.
06:29There's been a couple of little minor repairs, temporary repairs done to the curbing at turns five and six as well.
06:35Keep an eye on that for you.
06:36A hundred kilometres ahead, 42 laps.
06:45The first of two races for the V8s this afternoon.
06:48And Will Davison's got off to an absolute flyer.
06:51Jason Bright will be rounded up quickly by the time they get to turn one.
06:56And he's dropped back to fourth position.
06:58Third.
07:00Yep, fourth position.
07:01So from pole down to four for Bright.
07:07Davison, Coulthard, Winkup.
07:10They took advantage of a sloppy start from Team VOC.
07:15It was a very good jump also for Jamie Winkup.
07:18But then clearly he didn't get anywhere with it as he got down to turn one, which very often happens.
07:22But Bright's bobbled away from the line, and that's costly when all of a sudden you find yourself in that position having done all the work for the pole position.
07:30That means 100 kilometres of almost certain pain.
07:33And you just can't do that, Neil.
07:35You've got to, from pole position here, you've got to be in there.
07:38There's Holdsworth in the sand at turn six.
07:42It'll trigger a safety car.
07:43It'll be out of your safety car for sure.
07:44But you've got to capitalise.
07:50You can't do all that work in qualifying and not make that opportunity stick.
07:56Safety car boards and flags.
07:58Safety car boards and flags.
07:59Safety car standby.
08:00The car off in the sand at turn six.
08:04So Lee Holdsworth has pinned the blame on David Wall, making contact with him at turn four.
08:15He's not going to leave there in a hurry.
08:18It's in there pretty deep, isn't it?
08:21It's Dave Stewart.
08:22To the rear there, Betty Klemenko, chatting to Erebus Motorsports CEO Ryan Madison.
08:28Yeah, yeah.
08:29OK.
08:34So remember that Jason Bright in the last qualifying session had the top of his gear lever come off.
08:42And we discussed whether, we discussed how they pieced that back together.
08:46I wonder if that may have played a start, a role in his start.
08:49And that's where Lee goes off at turn six.
08:52Either way, Will Davison starts on the front row of the grid, has the lead of the race.
08:57Fabian Coulthard is behind him.
08:58The Pedder's safety car has been activated.
09:01So we will grab a break here at Barbagallo.
09:07So the safety car is still in control of the field on lap four out of 42.
09:11Lee Holdsworth's car is currently being dragged out of the sand.
09:15It has a flat tyre.
09:16And as a result, there you go, as a result, the incident with David Wall, car 21, is under investigation.
09:23Murph, what have you got?
09:24Yeah, I'm down here at Erebus with Ross Stone, guys.
09:26Ross, I mean, things have been really looking up.
09:28Big improvements this weekend.
09:29That obviously happened on the first lap of this race after Lee did a great job of qualifying 15.
09:34Bloody disappointing.
09:35Yeah, it is disappointing.
09:36You know, it's all heading in the right direction.
09:38And, you know, it's the whole story.
09:39You just need a clean first lap and then you're away.
09:42You got a bit of a helping hand?
09:43Yeah, absolutely.
09:44He is, no doubt.
09:45David Wall gave him a touch-up.
09:46So, once we get all the in-car stuff and have a look, we'll go from there.
09:50Thanks, mate.
09:53And there is David Wall.
09:54He's got Dean Fiore behind him.
09:58The plus and minus is Jason Bright.
10:00We saw that start from the front row of the grid.
10:02He's back in fourth position, so he's lost three.
10:04Craig Lowndes, bad start.
10:06Lost five spots.
10:07And here's the on-board David Reynolds.
10:13You can see there Lowndes ended up right out in the weeds because of Bright's start.
10:17So, he got caught because of that.
10:19That's the reason Lowndes has lost five positions.
10:22And then there's some hustle and bustle.
10:24You can see there with David Reynolds.
10:26David Reynolds is tenth in the field now.
10:28Garth Tander grabbed four spots.
10:30So, he's come up four.
10:31So did Todd Kelly.
10:32And Rick Kelly, fantastic first lap, up five positions.
10:38So, Rick, at the moment, is 20th from 25th.
10:44And over the race management channel, our race director, Tim Shanklin, is conferring with
10:49that rescue crew just to find out what to do with car four up there.
10:53Scafie, I'm just panicking, mate.
10:55Can you go back and check?
10:56I'm just looking at Holesworth's car there with the bonnet up.
10:58Did I put the pins back in?
11:00I think you did.
11:01I was worried about you doing that, but you did.
11:04Very well done.
11:05Now, the other part that is going to play in this second sector now of the race will
11:11be tyre usage and what people do with a safety car period like this now, it may encourage
11:17them not to change tyres.
11:19The other thing that the Mercedes and Nissan guys have been a little concerned about is
11:24actually fuel economy for this 100k race.
11:26The Mercedes-Benz guys were right on the verge.
11:30They're using a bit more fuel than the others, right on the verge of whether they'd make it
11:33or not.
11:34This will obviously help those AMG cars that are still in the field.
11:39Obviously, that's probably Holesworth.
11:41Gets them off the hook.
11:41Terrific crowd here this weekend.
11:53Ready to go.
11:55They're enjoying the sunshine too all around this circuit.
11:59Down here with Bradley Jones.
12:01Jason Bright's start there, mate.
12:02Probably not what you were looking for.
12:03Was there a drama or just didn't quite get it right?
12:05Yeah, he probably blinked when the light turned green, I think.
12:08Look, it's just one of those things like he got a bit too much gas in it, got a bit
12:12of wheel spin.
12:13But I think he's going to be fast.
12:15He's pretty composed in the car and he seems to have it all sorted out.
12:18Brad, I've got to ask you about strategy now.
12:19It wasn't really marginal prior to the start of the race.
12:22Now we've got a safety car.
12:23You've got to really think about this now.
12:25It's a lot more marginal if and when, sorry.
12:27Yeah, it's going to be a matter of who blinks first.
12:30For me, I felt that you're probably looking at something from 17 on and if there was a safety
12:37car, say lap 10, you'd stop.
12:38But, you know, we've done five laps now.
12:40So that's really opened the window up.
12:42I think if we got one more safety car, you might even find people trying to get right
12:46through the end if it's quickly.
12:47All right, mate.
12:47We'll let you get back to the restart.
12:48Thanks, buddy.
12:49Thanks very much.
12:50That's the interesting point for me because effectively these first six laps, nothing's
12:54happened.
12:55There's been no tyre wear.
12:56So that's shortened up the window, the requirement to lean on these tyres.
13:00So if there is another safety car intervention, you could well get away with it.
13:04We'll see.
13:06Safety car is off the circuit.
13:07Will Davison will lead them through.
13:11He's got Fabian Coulthard tucked in behind him.
13:13Wink up.
13:14Jason Bright.
13:16Single file down to turn one.
13:21And Gisbergen has Reynolds ready to pounce.
13:26That's a very good restart of Will Davison's.
13:29So was Wink up right up on the Coulthard.
13:32That's a great bit of road over the fast right.
13:35And the only left-hander on this Barbagelo layout.
13:39We'll change the direction at the top of the hill.
13:40This is the exit of turn five.
13:43And then down to the bottom of the hill, down to the basin.
13:48Back up the hill.
13:50It's a fantastic corner.
13:51What a big, fast, flowing fourth gear, fifth, and then sixth.
13:57You'll hear them pull sixth now with a run down the roller coaster for turn seven.
14:04255 kilometres an hour.
14:07Down the inside goes David Wall on Todd Kelly.
14:11Oh, a bit of a bump.
14:13Oh, it's a bit ugly.
14:14This is a little bit like last year for Will Davison in the sense that the Saturday was a bit rubbishy.
14:22But cleaning up on the Sunday.
14:24So here he is leading.
14:25And remember, he was a rock star here this time last year.
14:28He came into the event this weekend with the points lead.
14:30He lost it to his rival, Jamie Winkup, yesterday.
14:33But he's in the box seat at the moment and has just recorded the fastest lap of the race, Murph.
14:37Hey, guys.
14:37Just continuing with our tyre theme this weekend.
14:40Obviously, looking up in the pit lane, the tyres that are ready to go on if these cars come in for a pit stop.
14:45Very few green tyres laid out.
14:46There's only a couple of guys that have got them.
14:48Some are looking at putting two on if they come in for the stop.
14:53Right.
14:53Quickest to the first sector.
14:56He was leaning in on Winkup at turn six.
14:58And if you're wondering at home and you want to do some simple math,
15:01you can see on the graphic on screen at the moment they're working lap eight of 42.
15:06Just add roughly, per simplicity, plus 20.
15:09We know that they'll get an easy 20 laps out of these tyres.
15:12Everything after that will depend on the balance of the car and how you drive it,
15:16what's going on traffic-wise.
15:17Here's a bit of that.
15:18Here's a bit of traffic.
15:19It's a Nissan jam into turn one.
15:24Engel in the Mercedes-AMG entry also on the inside in there.
15:29So Davison's got half-second margin over Kulta.
15:32Winkup and Bright look menacing in that shot that we had a few moments ago.
15:35Neil, if I could be so rude, it's just to remove the word easy from that easy 20-lap sense,
15:40which you just made there, mate.
15:41Nothing easy when the tyres are good.
15:45Yeah, that's a good point.
15:46It is so hard on tyres.
15:48It's the hardest place in the country on tyres per kilometre.
15:54It has a massive effect on the left-hand rear.
15:57This is in the bunker for Fabian Coulthard and Jason Bright at VJR.
16:03The point being, though, that we know from yesterday's racing and history here
16:09that you're going to be able to nail the first 20 laps.
16:12Yes, there's tyre deck.
16:14We've known what it is and how much it plots, but it's after that.
16:17This is crazy back here, isn't it?
16:19It's got a big cycle here.
16:21This time it's Engel on the outside.
16:25Jonathan Webb mixed up there as well in the Darrell Lee hold.
16:29Oh, we saw Webb give Engel a bit of a touch-up at Turn 1 yesterday.
16:41Just had a little bit of a bump there at Turn 4.
16:42So this is this run down the hill.
16:45And it's one of the most difficult braking areas in the country
16:48because a car basically wants to continue on down there
16:52with the momentum and the inertia.
16:54Big, fast race car into a very difficult turning point.
17:00And this is pretty lively at the front now, guys,
17:02because Coulthard's crept up on Will Davison.
17:06Wing Cup's right up in behind them.
17:07Jason Bright's been putting pressure on Wing Cup.
17:11Winterbottom's also moved on to the back of Bright.
17:13So that top five, there is very little in it.
17:16In fact, on the last lap, there was less than a tenth of a second
17:20between all five guys.
17:23So we're on board now with Wing Cup looking back at Bright.
17:28This will give you a good view, too, that you've been pointing out, Skate,
17:31here, the different lines they take at this turn.
17:35Wing Cup wider.
17:37Bright goes in tighter.
17:39That has the effect of allowing Jamie to get off a little cleaner
17:42without asking as much of the left rear of the car
17:45because Jason turned in tighter.
17:48Makes a tighter radius to the corner.
17:49He's got to use more steering angle and more throttle to launch the car off there.
17:53So he's trying to poke the nose up, looking for a passing opportunity into six.
17:57But it hurts him a little on the exit.
17:59You can see the rubber band effect there,
18:01and he's searching to try and induce a bit of cold air into the front of the car there,
18:05into the brakes and into the engine radiator intake area
18:08and the induction area because the hot air is stinking hot behind these cars.
18:14And that's what he spoke about last night.
18:16He thought the race car was quite quick,
18:17but when you bury it, there's not a lot you can do with it.
18:20Well, he qualified pole.
18:22That's what happens.
18:23As soon as you make a bad start,
18:24then you put yourself in this spot, don't you?
18:26So you'll be ruining that start line performance.
18:33And he had to use a lot of the tyre in the battle he had with Wing Cup yesterday,
18:37a little bit earlier in the race than he wanted to.
18:39You invariably eat up more of your car in the position that he's in at the moment
18:42because he's got it going on both sides
18:44because he's also got Mark Winterbottom not terribly far behind him.
18:47It's a great battle, isn't it?
18:52What a difference it makes with this
18:54because Lowndes is behind Alex Davison in eighth position.
18:59Although he's putting some pressure on Alex,
19:01it doesn't look like he's got the pace that he had yesterday.
19:05So it's strange to have the 60-60 performance that we saw Craig yesterday
19:10escape from the field, basically beat everybody by a two-second margin.
19:14And I know that we're only in early days of 13 laps of 42,
19:19but it doesn't look like it's got the Wing Cup or Davison or Coulthard or Bright
19:25or Winterbottom front five speed.
19:28Bright made a little mistake off the top of turn five there
19:31and then he had to jump back and cover Winterbottom.
19:33So he would have got a little bit looser
19:35and changed the direction over the top of the hill.
19:37See, he's covering again now.
19:40Good run that time, Coulthard.
19:41That was a good run.
19:43You've got to have a dive when you're close like that.
19:45Just probably half a car length too far back.
19:48And remember, Fabian's been having a problem at turn seven all weekend.
19:51So that's probably not his passing spot.
19:53His passing spot will be down the hill.
19:58Oh.
20:00That's a good battle at the front, especially Will Davison.
20:03Just a three-tenth of a second lead
20:05over a fast-charging Fabian Coulthard.
20:12Well, the heat is on in more ways than one in this race.
20:16With 27 laps to go at the front,
20:20Will Davison leads by three-tenths over Fabian Coulthard,
20:23who looks fast enough
20:26and at times in position to have a crack.
20:29The rest of the top five are going in search of cooler air whenever they can,
20:34especially Jason Bright.
20:36You guys, Michael Caruso and his Nissan has been the first one to blink.
20:40He came in.
20:41It was a strategy stop, but it wasn't a good stop.
20:44They lost a couple of seconds.
20:45The left rear was very slow to get on.
20:47So they've lost a little bit of that advantage that they're looking for,
20:49but he has been the first one to make a strategy stop in this race.
20:52Yeah, thanks, Murph.
20:53We were just actually talking about
20:55who will be first to blink at the front
20:57because it's probably smart to get out of this train.
21:00You're in the top five.
21:02If you come out with a fresh tyre on
21:05and in those early laps you'll go faster
21:07than what these blokes are going now,
21:09you will make ground.
21:11The only problem is,
21:12is where does it bury you in the field
21:14to determine clear air and proper track position?
21:18So it'll be very interesting now with these top five guys.
21:21They will definitely stop.
21:23It's just when.
21:25Yeah, it's a good point you make, Scafie.
21:26I was trying to milk from Mark Dutton
21:29and also from Team Bock what their strategies were
21:32and obviously holding their cards close to their chest.
21:34But one thing is for sure, they're not fixed.
21:36They're going to see what their competitors do
21:37because part of the game here
21:38is knowing what your competitor's tyre degradation is
21:41as much as your own.
21:42So like our NPR.
21:44Wind cups in, winter bottoms in.
21:46So these guys have blinked.
21:49They're no doubt feeling the effects of traffic.
21:51It's slippy.
21:53David Wall's behind it.
21:55A pretty rough idea of how far behind it is.
21:56David Wall has just entered pit lane as well
21:58and here comes Tim Blanchard also.
22:00So quite a few cars.
22:01There are teams preparing a pit lane.
22:03One of the Fujitsu cars is going to be in very shortly also.
22:07So someone has blinked
22:08and the action has started in pit lane.
22:11Watch how close this is going to be.
22:13Millimetres.
22:13Cold tyres, cold tyres, cold tyres.
22:17They were green.
22:18And that's an important shot for me
22:20because it shows who's around them
22:21because when we were in the break earlier
22:23and we were discussing the ins and outs
22:24of whether this would be a healthy thing to do,
22:27it was very dependent on where you were going to land
22:29in the traffic.
22:31So a little bit of clear air will serve them well.
22:33And did you see how hard Winkup tried?
22:35When he came out of the pits then,
22:36he was sideways.
22:38They're responding.
22:38So here's the leaders.
22:40So Davison, Coulthard, they respond.
22:42Leaves Bright in the lead with Courtney
22:44who is actually closing on the back of that group anyway
22:46because they were slowing each other up.
22:48So Will Davison's in.
22:50Fabian Coulthard, Craig Lowndes joins them
22:51together with David Reynolds, Scotty McLaughlin,
22:53Tony Delberto.
22:54They all move to the pit lane for service.
22:57A big slide.
22:58He's bowled a couple of these guys over there, Fabian.
23:00Here's Craig Lowndes comes in.
23:02Have a look at his tyres here behind me.
23:03Look, two green tyres here on the left side
23:05and on the other side, the inside of the car.
23:08Remembering it's a clockwise circuit.
23:10Two used tyres.
23:11And they've got a problem there.
23:13The rear right, they couldn't get it off.
23:18That's really cost Craig.
23:21That was a massive drama on the back of that car.
23:23Changed guns on the left rear.
23:24So that probably cost him four or five seconds.
23:29So he's buried.
23:29He was already having a difficult run.
23:34And I think I just saw...
23:36Well, this was the big understeer, wasn't it?
23:37This locked the front.
23:38On the concrete.
23:38This is the concrete.
23:40They need the sturdy, hardy nature of the concrete for the jacks.
23:44And here's the problem on that left rear we spoke about.
23:46So they didn't actually change the gun in the end.
23:47They were standing by to do it.
23:49But that was all awkward.
23:50So this will be very interesting.
23:53We'll capture this for you now.
23:55So definitely, Winkup's been the winner in the stop race.
23:59Because the way that it is rolled out, Winnabottom has jumped Davison.
24:04Davison has remained in front of Coulthard.
24:07So Winkup is the real winner in the pit stop race.
24:10The undercut has actually served them well there.
24:15Getting on to the new rubber early.
24:17Three to go.
24:18Plus, in Fabian's case, that little slip, just pinching the brakes, just locking up and sliding.
24:26And having the car slightly out of position means that all the boys around the car have got to take a shuffle to accommodate it.
24:31That just adds a precious bunch of tents.
24:35And that's had an impact on the racetrack as well.
24:37100%.
24:37And the other part that's happened is, you know, this is such a team sport.
24:41But they did a very, very good job at Red Bull.
24:45Because they've effectively jumped the other two teams.
24:48For speed, Will Davison and Fabian Coulthard were in front of Winkup.
24:52He was not going to get them.
24:54The pit stop has made the difference.
24:57It is an interesting question as Van Gisbergen takes service in the VIP Pet Foods entry.
25:02Bright's got his clean air now.
25:04He got some laps for free at the beginning of the race.
25:08And if he was to pit now, because of the undercut effect of those that got onto the rubber, that's going to hurt him.
25:15So, what they'll be praying for down at Team BOC is another safety car.
25:20And they'll be watching their lap speed on this like walks.
25:23Because this throws up the strategy question that we've been speaking about.
25:2756.7, by the way, Craig Lowndes on that new tyre set that he's gone out on.
25:32It's just given him the fastest lap of the race.
25:34And that's the lap time difference, Matt.
25:35So, 57.62 for Bright.
25:3856.77 for Lowndes.
25:40So, it's one second faster.
25:45And across a group of cars, if you take averages, they wear the tyres here at the rate that affects the lap speed of around about 0.1 of a second.
25:54So, a tenth of a second a lap is the penalty.
25:56As you stay out there on these softer tyres in this harsh racetrack surface.
26:04So, that's Courtney now surfaced and joining back on the tail of Fabian Coulthard.
26:12If anything, he's lost a bit of ground there.
26:14Again, those that got onto the newer tyre earlier get that gain.
26:18However, James is now on a younger tyre.
26:21So, he'll get a little bit of that back.
26:22Here, we're down here at BJ.
26:37Brad, Jason is coming in this lap.
26:40So, he stayed out a little bit longer.
26:42He's doing some good times on those tyres.
26:44Well, he was feeling very comfortable in the car.
26:45But here, it's all about clean air.
26:47So, we're trying to get him so they've got a five-light buffer so we can attack them towards the end of the race.
26:52So, it's worked out pretty good considering the bad start he had.
26:55So, hopefully, this will play in our favour.
26:57We'll get in in that front group and we'll be good to go.
27:01And a couple of greens I see left-hand side.
27:03That's a legacy of breaking the gear stick and qualifying.
27:05So, hopefully, it's going to be good for him.
27:08I think he's in a good spot, but we'll see what happens.
27:11Thanks, mate.
27:11So, Bradley and his guys are prepared to take the pain now.
27:16But they're hoping that they're...
27:17It's very slippery. I mean, straight.
27:19Andrew Edwards just reminding Jason of what happened to Fabian Coulthard there about the slipperiness of the concrete.
27:25So, in he comes.
27:25So, they'll take the hit now.
27:27But they have five-lap younger tyres that they hope will deliver them an outcome at the back end of the race.
27:33How big's the hit?
27:34Be careful.
27:35And the other part of this is that when you are on...
27:39We call it this cliff, so the tyre degrades, degrades, degrades.
27:43We don't really know, nobody knows how far it degrades because we're running longer today than we did yesterday.
27:49We've only got a 25-lap sample from yesterday.
27:51That's right. So, you're standing on the edge.
27:52You're just not sure where they get to.
27:55Fabian's climbing all over the back of Will Davis.
27:57So, let's see...
27:58It's going to be tied with Courtney here.
28:00Let's just watch it on exit.
28:01Yeah, let's see where he comes out.
28:02He's going to come out just in behind James Courtney.
28:05Fair way behind.
28:06Fair way is not fair.
28:07In fact, it's Shane Bear Gisberger and he's got to worry about.
28:12So, in front of Bear Gisberger.
28:14That's 11th on the road with the top five out there still looking hard.
28:18So, 19 laps is the signal to Jason on that tyre set.
28:23He did 25 laps yesterday, so he knows what that's going to feel like.
28:26And he's actually got initially a bit of clean air to deal with, which will be handy for him.
28:30If he got stuck behind Shane, so you can see how tight that was, that would have been a real disaster for the strategy.
28:36It may work for him.
28:37He's going to have to nurse the tyres a little in this early phase where he won't have enough credit in the bank for the latter part of the race.
28:46So, if he goes crazy now to narrow that margin down to James Courtney, that'll hurt.
28:50But Jason's done enough of this to be able to manage that.
28:52Neil, it seems like we talk about tyres and degradation a lot, doesn't it?
28:55But the reality is, that's what this game at this track, or all track for this in particular, is about.
29:00And up here at Team Red Bull, we saw Jamie Winkup go out on qualifying tyres, used tyres, but they've done a qualifying run.
29:08So, about three laps.
29:09Alternatively, Craig Lowndes, he went out, as you saw, with green tyres on one side of the car.
29:14Remember, we saw him qualifying.
29:15He didn't go back out.
29:16He kept a set.
29:17So, I can still see sitting over here two more green tyres for Craig Lowndes that he'll use later in the day.
29:22And race director Tim Schenck has also just asked officials to take a look at the driver's window.
29:28Car 3, Tony Delberto, which apparently is popping out.
29:30Coulthard's looking up the inside here.
29:32He's going to get a run.
29:33He's actually done this.
29:34So, he's turned it in tighter.
29:36He's picked up the throttle earlier.
29:37And he's underneath Will Davison.
29:39And all he has to do now is sit there.
29:42And we've spoken all weekend about the Winkup-Winnerbottom rivalry.
29:45It's on at the front, because Winkup didn't come out of Turn 6 that well.
29:50And Winnabottom had a run on him.
29:51He's right behind him.
29:52You can see this now.
29:54This will be fantastic.
29:58You see the trail braking.
29:59Brakes all the way into the corner.
30:01And also, that little crease in the road down there at 1.
30:03It's been there for years.
30:04And you see the way the car buckled as it went across the bump down there.
30:09So, you can see the back of Winkup's car reacting.
30:12Courtney and Davison at it.
30:14Courtney's doing a good job.
30:16He's actually faster in this part of the race than I thought he would be.
30:20He's come right up onto the back of Davison now.
30:24Yeah, guys.
30:24I was just going to bring that up, actually.
30:25Look at the speed of James Courtney.
30:27He had the opportunity there with a bit of the Dyson that was going on,
30:30especially with Davison and Fabian Coulthard, who has skipped away.
30:33But Courtney, at the moment, showing very good pace and very consistent.
30:37It's interesting to see if he can continue to move forward.
30:41And Winterbottom threatening.
30:42Meantime, Jason Bright's absolutely gobbling up that margin to James Courtney.
30:47So, he's underneath Scott Pye with ease.
30:49He skipped well away from Shane Van Gisbergen with the benefit of the new tyre.
30:53And we know his car balance is good.
30:55So, there are a couple of little interesting battles going on here.
30:58Plots within the plot.
31:00Dean Fiore is actually the race leader, yet to stop.
31:02There are two of them, Fiore and Crema.
31:06Actually, three of them, because Scott Pye hasn't stopped either.
31:09And the lead car to have taken a stop is the man on screen there,
31:13car number one, Jamie Winkum.
31:14Last lap around, Jason Bright is more than a second faster
31:18than the two cars ahead of him, Courtney and Will Davison.
31:22But juggling that whole equation
31:26because he can't afford to take too much out of the tyre performance now
31:30because he'll need a little bit later
31:32because when you try and pass people, you use more of the tyre.
31:36Racecraft was very good then for Winkum.
31:38He knew that Prema was a chance to hold him up.
31:41So, he did a really good job down at turn six and got away with it.
31:45And you can see the little gap that he's got now to Winterbottom.
31:48So, very, very good.
31:49Dean Fiore and Alex Prema yet to pit.
31:53So, our effective race leader is Jamie Winkup.
31:56Also back in the lead of the championship as well.
32:00This fight between Winkup and Winterbottom is back on.
32:03Welcome back.
32:10W.A.'s Dean Fiore leads this race.
32:14He's done 29 laps on this set of tyres yet to pit.
32:19He'll have to head into pit lane sooner or later.
32:22Jamie Winkup will take over the lead of the race
32:24and resume this battle that's been ongoing for so long with Mark Winterbottom.
32:29Jason Bright continues to light up the timesheets
32:31with fresher tyres than those around him.
32:34Well, interesting to note the speed of Dean Fiore.
32:39Because he's done so many laps,
32:43we can get a gauge of his performance.
32:4558.7 was his last lap time where Winkup, for example, has done a 57.3.
32:49So, it's a 1.4-second swing in favour of Winkup.
32:53Frankly, Fiore's got further than I thought
32:55and the tyre hasn't fallen as far as I thought.
32:58Exactly.
32:58There are only two other drivers who are yet to pit.
33:01Alex Prema, his last lap of 59.7.
33:03And Scotty Pyre, 59.7 as well.
33:06Speaking of.
33:08Keep up.
33:09Yeah, well done.
33:10Thought he was going to stay there then.
33:14Down the inside goes Bright.
33:15Very good move.
33:18That's for fifth.
33:21Now, as we look at these guys crest over the hill.
33:23Scofer, you were talking before about
33:24you've got to make that move down in the braking area
33:26as they come down here.
33:28And you've just got to understand,
33:29they're doing 255, 260 there.
33:30Right at that point, they're whack.
33:32You see the nose of the car go down.
33:33Now, that's as big a stop as you'll see anywhere in our country.
33:36It's around 1,400 PSI at the caliper of line pressure.
33:41That's the fluid pressure.
33:42Now, the driver's pedal,
33:44depending on what pedal ratio he's using
33:45and what master cylinders and slave cylinders he has,
33:48he'll be about 80 kilos of pedal pressure.
33:51Now, multiply that by three stops per lap, 42-lap race.
33:55What's that, 120-something stops.
33:58Now, if you're not sure what that might feel like,
34:01lay on your back, find someone that weighs 80 kilos,
34:03similar weight to what you might be,
34:04and do 120-something of them.
34:07Someone do that tradition for me.
34:08I just can't work that out right now.
34:10And see what your right thigh feels like.
34:13The point I'm making is a big stop.
34:15A big, big stop, Mark.
34:17Well done, Lachlan.
34:19It'd be good if you had your calculator with you
34:20when you're starting to roll it out.
34:22While he's busy working the abacus flat out there at the moment,
34:26the word is that Fiore doesn't intend to stop.
34:29So I'm going to just keep on watching the lap speed.
34:31It was a 59.9 for him.
34:33So let's just clarify this.
34:35He is the race leader.
34:36There's certainly no compulsion to stop.
34:38Exactly.
34:39So he can take the gamble.
34:41Is Chas Mozdart in car number 12, Wilson Security?
34:43Where's he going to finish?
34:44Where's he going to finish?
34:45Well, I think he's going to be 11th or 12th.
34:47And if Ludo Lacroix there on the right
34:52from Triple Eight Race Engineering,
34:53Lucas D'Umbrell on the left.
34:56And if you look at where he's qualified,
34:59which was down in 22nd,
35:02and then you think about what the continuation
35:04of the grading of the tyres is going to look like,
35:07he's probably going to get a gain.
35:09It's just a question of how much.
35:15There he is.
35:16So you'll see the gap.
35:19There, there.
35:20The pack are approaching.
35:23So Winkup is your effective leader
35:26when he gobbles up Dean Fiore in the next few laps
35:31because the lap speed difference from that lap
35:33was a 59.26 versus a 57.63.
35:37So 1.6 seconds is the margin
35:39between the fast group of cars
35:42that have got fresh tyres on
35:44versus Dean Fiore, who's battling
35:46with the original set of tyres.
35:48Pretty healthy battle here with Caruso and Tander,
35:50or Moffat and Tander, sorry.
35:52So Winkup, Winterbottom,
35:53Coulthard, Bright, Davison, Courtney, Van Giesburg,
35:56and Alex Davison still in front of Lowndes.
35:58Premier is the other guy who hasn't stopped,
36:01so he's 11th, Dave Reynolds and Scott McLaughlin.
36:05We've seen some good pace from Dean and this team this year.
36:08Remember, these cars were built by Triple Eight Race Engineering
36:10and Dodo Car Insurance supporting this campaign this year.
36:15But Dino's really enjoying driving the car.
36:18It's been a step up for him.
36:19Yeah, I'm in here right now, guys,
36:22with Brendan Hogan, Dean Fiore's engineer.
36:26Mate, was this a strategy at the start of the race?
36:28No, mate, we're just seeing how it goes.
36:30It's actually Dave's car over here.
36:31I'm on Scotty's car.
36:33I've asked the wrong one.
36:35We're a shot duck at the moment,
36:36so we're just praying for a safety car on my car.
36:39That's me being the amateur that I am, boys.
36:42I might ask Couchy.
36:43He's here.
36:44Couchy, was this a strategy, mate?
36:46We weren't in a very good quality position,
36:49so we thought we'd roll the dice a little bit.
36:51That safety car at the start of the race has helped us a bit.
36:53But, yeah, look, we're not going to win the thing,
36:56but we'll see where we end up.
36:58So you are now, you're committed to staying out?
37:00Yeah, mate, we've got to.
37:01Yeah, OK, good stuff. Thanks, guys.
37:02Good on him.
37:04If he stops now, it's an absolute disaster.
37:06So they're all over him, no surprise.
37:09And a big chunk of time taken in this last sector.
37:14But he is going to be a good job.
37:16I like the thought of trying to do this,
37:19especially with that early safety car.
37:21So Bright down the inside of his teammate, Fabian Coulthard.
37:25Fabian wisely didn't try to cover or to block.
37:28Target is Winterbottom.
37:29And now to see Winterbottom.
37:33Oh, this will hold both of them up.
37:36Winterbottom gets down there.
37:38So Dean was caught wide.
37:40I heard Andrew Edwards in the background say
37:41the target is Winterbottom.
37:43So Jason Bright's got the crosshairs on the back of the Pepsi Max Falcon
37:47at the moment, trying to figure out how to narrow that margin.
37:50He's got Dean Fiori in the middle.
37:51Dean's third in the purple Dodo car there.
37:54So Jason will get off turn five much easier
37:57with a whole lot more tyre grip and fire down the inside at six.
38:00So there's first, second and third cleansed.
38:04Wink up Winterbottom, Bright.
38:06Fiori for the moment.
38:07Then Coulthard will grab him as well.
38:09And Dean will fall to just outside the top ten somewhere.
38:13Boys, I don't know.
38:13I'm just watching Winterbottom sit back there.
38:15If you recall in yesterday's racing,
38:17he was very, very good on the last three or four laps.
38:20He managed his tyres during the race very well.
38:22And when you look at Mark Winterbottom's data,
38:24he's raced out of the way.
38:25He drives the car.
38:26He's one of the smoothest guys on the circuit.
38:28But I wouldn't discount at the moment.
38:29He's just looking after them,
38:30ready for a pounce on the last couple of laps.
38:32The younger tyres serving Jason Bright well at the moment.
38:37This was this little moment that we were talking about a second ago
38:42where Dean was caught wide
38:44and Mark had to get down the inside of him.
38:46We're on board now with Winterbottom.
38:47That's the pass for second position.
38:51Now the hard stuff begins for Jason Bright.
38:53So he'll whittle this air gap down.
38:55But then he's five laps difference in tyre age.
38:59But he's got to do something special in car speed
39:01to be able to get around either of the two in front.
39:03And that's going to be a bit tricky.
39:04This is pretty tricky.
39:06It looks a bit tricky, doesn't it?
39:07One of the weeds out there.
39:09A Nissan and a Burke and an Enforcer.
39:12Equals.
39:13Trouble.
39:14Safety.
39:15That's Michael Caruso, Tim Slade and Russell Ingle
39:21who you're riding with for Super Cheap Auto Racing.
39:25Oh, that's a big dive bomb pass.
39:28Down the inside.
39:28He had to run over the gutter on the inside.
39:30He was up on that.
39:32You can see that concrete apron.
39:34I think he fed it at a lower gear to do it as well, Russell,
39:37so he could sneak around the inside.
39:38He's got it done though, hasn't he?
39:39Nice job.
39:40And it's for 23rd, 24th, 25th.
39:44It's a pretty lively battle between these guys.
39:47Have a look.
39:47So he's run down there.
39:49He's had to run it up onto the gutter area.
39:52See, I'm on the inside concrete apron.
39:55Didn't lock a break though.
39:56It was a good pass.
39:57Certainly no touching, so well done, Russell Ingle.
39:59Look at this.
40:00So Jason Bright now coming out of turn six.
40:02He's right on the back of Frosty.
40:05He's consistently been at least half a second quicker per lap.
40:09Over the last four or five laps.
40:12Since Dean Fiore exited that picture.
40:16Former teammates.
40:18They're at Ford Performance Racing together.
40:20They won a sand down 500.
40:23And just picture a good start.
40:26Yes.
40:26He would win this race.
40:28So qualified pole.
40:30Bad start.
40:31Goes back to fourth.
40:33And now you see the pace.
40:35He's come through.
40:37I would argue that even the strategy at that point wasn't the best strategy because they
40:40were later than the rest.
40:42Now the tyre's fresher.
40:44And you can see him coming out winter bottom.
40:47He's right in the critical phase right now though, Jason Bright.
40:51Because right now is when you use the tyre foot.
40:53Here we go.
40:53The move.
40:54He looks.
40:55It's about seven-eighths of a car width there.
40:57And he squeezes up.
40:59There's a bit of a rub on the exit.
41:00But Bright's got position now.
41:02Frosty's squeezed out wide.
41:04Now he's got the run down the inside to turn number seven.
41:06They are rubbing mirrors.
41:08That's scary stuff.
41:10That's great.
41:15A little bit cheeky in the braking area.
41:17Nice work, mate.
41:18Nice work.
41:19You've got three to go.
41:20Three to go.
41:23That was wild.
41:24When they're rubbing.
41:25Did you see the mirrors fan?
41:27When they were rubbing mirrors up the straight, that was fine.
41:30But in the braking area at the bottom of the hill, that was wild.
41:33So this is the rub.
41:34They had a little rub at turn six.
41:36A little bump.
41:37And then they run right up over the hill.
41:39Look at how much road winter bottom used.
41:41Now just watch really closely because the mirrors rub now.
41:46And then in the braking area, Jason was a little bit cheeky.
41:50He moved it as wide as he possibly could.
41:53And winter bottom.
41:54There's the rub.
41:55Look at that.
41:56I love that stuff.
41:57That's 250 kilometres an hour.
41:58Now this is the bit that's a bit cheeky.
42:00Just there, he didn't quite give Mark enough room.
42:05I mean, it was touch and go.
42:07It was kind of an automotive high five, wasn't it, with the mirrors?
42:09But you're right, it was just a, it was on the wrong side of holding your breath, that
42:13one.
42:13But they got away with it, the two of them.
42:16So the next question is, can he round up Jamie Winkup in two laps?
42:21Headlights on for Bright.
42:22He's got Scott Pye filling the gap.
42:26Big job.
42:27Meanwhile, Dean Fiore's still in eighth.
42:30Davison and Lowndes are the next two to get him.
42:32And that would be a career best for Dean Fiore if he can hold down eighth.
42:40It's going to be tough.
42:42Oh.
42:48There's your gap.
42:50One and a half laps left in this race.
42:54And Winkup absolutely benefiting from a great play by Red Bull Racing Australia to bring him
43:00in early.
43:05Alex Premat didn't stop either.
43:07So there's two of them out there that did stop the tyres in this one.
43:12And Scotty Pye.
43:13And Scotty Pye.
43:16You can see him in the tail.
43:17You're right.
43:1827th at the moment.
43:22Okay.
43:23Last lap.
43:24Oh, look at Dean.
43:27He's been, he's been monstered by one, two, three, four, five cars.
43:32That'll put him back to, where is he now?
43:35There's 11th.
43:37Reynolds is, he'll get him.
43:40So Reynolds and Tander will get by.
43:42So I'll end up 13th as a consequence of that move.
43:45That's pretty wild stuff.
43:46They've had a bit of history, those boys.
43:48They do.
43:48Side by side through turn three there.
43:50So here's the margin first to second.
43:53And I don't think Jason's got any response now.
43:59He'll be kicking himself about that start.
44:02The car was definitely fast enough to have won today.
44:06But the winner of race 11 will be our championship leader.
44:10Woo!
44:10We've got a Mojo back.
44:12Nice work.
44:13The Mojo's back.
44:14All you, mate.
44:15All you.
44:17Oh, yeah, brother.
44:18Tired to come a second.
44:19Love your work.
44:20Jamie Winkuff hands the kudos over to his team.
44:26And to his engineer, Mark Dutton.
44:30Making that strategy call earlier.
44:32It paid dividends beautifully.
44:34He held on to Beek Bright by 0.7 in a second.
44:37Tim Slade's going to have a final dive here on John O'Webb.
44:40It goes so far out wide, he almost ended up in the old pit lane.
44:44Whoa!
44:46That was for position 22.
44:48Yeah, it's wild, isn't it?
44:52Dean Fiore finished 13th.
44:53Very good job.
44:56There's our winner.
44:57Second race win of 2013 for Jamie Winkuff.
45:00So it was kind of a slow start in his terms.
45:03Missed out on the top step in Adelaide and Simmons Plains.
45:05But fought back at Pukekohe.
45:07And again here, a top 10 performance again for both Alex Davison and James Moffat.
45:12So Moffat, the leading Nissan in the team.
45:15Chas Mostat, mid-pack.
45:17And Tim Slade, the leader, leading Erebus Motorsport AMG Mercedes-Benz.
45:23So that's race 11 done.
45:25One more to come this afternoon.
45:27Remember that qualifying has already been settled for that.
45:32And this man will start from pole position again.
45:34So good performance.
45:40Red Bull Racing Australia, two out of two.
45:44So far in the chill per 360.
45:46After Lowndes winning the 60-60 super sprint yesterday.
45:49And just another lap or so would have been all Jason Bright needed.
46:02He drove very well, Matt.
46:04That was a really good comeback for a bad start.
46:07The car was very fast with Duffer's tyres very well.
46:11Winkuff, very good performance also.
46:14There's an interesting statement too, Scafie, that he said, you know, we got our mojo back.
46:18And Mark Dutton responded with Sicker coming second.
46:21They got so used to winning.
46:24He's leading the championship coming in to this race, of course.
46:28But they're here to win these things.
46:31Bright will go over and congratulate him and the team.
46:34That's good.
46:35A lot of respect there.
46:40So it's the 66th time that Jamie Winkuff has won a race.
46:46In his career, the fourth time that he's done it at this circuit.
46:53Well, mate, well done, Jamie.
46:55Can I say to you, you said to me earlier in the day, mate, that big changes to your car.
46:58And on the warm down lap, you said it's all you, it's all you to your team.
47:02Obviously, that was the response.
47:04Yeah, first time this year we've had, we've just had genuine pace, you know.
47:07So we could lead from the front.
47:09It was getting a bit hairy there in the middle with Mark.
47:11And we knew Brighty was coming.
47:13But, yeah, hey, genuine pace.
47:15I feel like we've got our mojo back a little.
47:16Yeah, I actually haven't seen you this happy for a while, which says to me you're clearly not happy yesterday.
47:21No, the car hasn't been 100% all year.
47:23And we've been slowly chipping away.
47:25Everyone's been asking the questions, you know, what's Red Bull doing, you know.
47:28But we've been chipping away.
47:30And, you know, it feels awesome.
47:31Not saying it's going to continue.
47:33But we're hoping we're certainly on the right track.
47:35Good job, mate.
47:36And well done.
47:36Just see if we can find Jason Bright over here.
47:39Hey, Brighty, you probably don't want to hear this, mate.
47:42But on my observations, mate, if you'd won that start, you would have won that race because you were coming very strong at the end.
47:49Yeah, no, the car's strong.
47:50Like, you know, I said that earlier this morning, we just need some clear air.
47:52And we've got to work on those starts.
47:54They've been costing us pretty badly.
47:55We seem to have a bit of a clutch problem that, you know, both of us are struggling with.
47:59So, you know, hopefully we can sort of sort that out.
48:01And when we start at the front, we can start to win some starts at the first corner.
48:04But the car's good.
48:05We'll just punch on this afternoon.
48:07Well, you've got speed, mate, and we both know that is the hard bit.
48:09So, well done.
48:10Hey, Frosty, I was talking to your team principal during the race like yesterday.
48:15It looked to me like you were hanging back, conserving your tyres.
48:17Very strong at the end.
48:18But it didn't quite go the distance.
48:19No, it didn't.
48:21The times were actually a lot quicker than yesterday.
48:22So, although you're conserving, you're still doing a lot quicker time and using the tyres.
48:26So, I thought I had him there at one stage, Jamie, when he was coming on.
48:30But then, obviously, the strategies and all that sort of stuff when Bridey's coming.
48:33So, not as good as yesterday with the tyre life.
48:35But the pace was up as well.
48:36So, we'll just try and work on it for the next one.
48:39All right.
48:39Great.
48:39It's fascinating to watch.
48:40Thanks, mate.
48:40Thanks, mate.
48:42Yeah.
48:42Hey, guys.
48:43In here with Dean Fiore.
48:44Nick, gain of nine spots here, mate.
48:46You've been one of only a couple of cars to stay out and run.
48:48A very, very different strategy.
48:49No pit stop.
48:50It must have been really, really hard at the end there.
48:52Not looking in your mirror to see who was coming.
48:55Yeah, definitely.
48:55I didn't actually know that wasn't the plan, right?
48:58So, we did it on the hop.
48:59So, I actually got told to push.
49:01Use these tyres up.
49:02Use these tyres up.
49:03That was only for two laps.
49:04And then the boys said, actually, hang on.
49:06Maybe you should button off and just conserve, conserve.
49:08So, that's what I did and tried to keep it straight.
49:10Had Couchy and Dude Morris coaching me on the radio and just brought me home.
49:15It was a great, great drive.
49:16I mean, it was really, really hard to control that right foot there to just look after those tyres, I'm sure.
49:20I mean, one lap too long.
49:21I mean, tenth was there on the cards.
49:23But just that last lap, those couple of guys got past.
49:25Yeah, it's amazing how much they catch you.
49:28Like, when we had nine to go, I was looking in my mirror and I was like, oh, my God.
49:31This is the easiest race win on the planet, you know.
49:34And then they come and they come fast.
49:36I was even using different gears.
49:38So, down at turn six at the bowl, it's third gear.
49:40I was actually plucking fourth really early just to try and get some drive out of the bottom.
49:44Tough.
49:45It was a tough race.
49:46We'll see what he does.
49:46And the next one might do the same strategy, maybe.
49:48We'll see what happens.
49:49It's 13th for Dean Fiori, the best result at his home circuit.
49:53So, the championship picture now looks like this.
49:55The lead for Jamie Wincup's been extended out to 45 points.
49:59Lowndes remains in third.
50:01It's been a costly weekend for Garth Tander, who's slipping down the list.
50:04What should have been the celebratory weekend, his 200th championship start, and, of course, his home event as well.
50:09But it's time for the podium.
50:11Aaron Noonan is there.
50:13The podium for Race 11 in the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship.
50:17In first place for Red Bull Racing Australia, Jamie Wincup.
50:21In second position for Team BOC, Jason Bright.
50:28In third place for the Pepsi Max Crew and Ford Performance Racing, Mark Winterbottom.
50:33And representing the winning team, Red Bull Racing Australia, Adrian Burgess.
50:39To present the trophy to third place, Marcus Geisler, Executive General Manager West, for Coat's Hire.
50:50Presenting the second place trophy, Gwynn Dolphin, Executive Director of Events Corp Western Australia.
50:59Presenting the winning team award, Rob Janney, President of Western Australia Sporting Car Club.
51:03And the first place trophy, Ben Purcell, Managing Director of Brown's Chill.
51:17Ladies and gentlemen, there it is.
51:18Your podium finishes in Race 11 at the Chill Perth 360.
51:23Second win of the year for Jamie Wincup.
51:25Mark Winterbottom on the podium now twice in the two races that we've had so far.
51:32It's ominous, Crompo, signs that Red Bull Racing Australia are finding their mojo.
51:38He's done a fantastic job and he's got history here.
51:42Finished in the top three of nine of the last ten races coming into this weekend.
51:47He's been a real machine here in the recent past.
51:49He just said that we've really got the car working nicely here and that's precisely what we just saw.
51:54Jason Bright did let him off the hook at the start, but it was going to be very hard to get around Jamie Wincup at the end of that one.
52:00He's not done with yet either.
52:02He will start our final race, V8 race, from pole position.
52:06They're getting used to that taste again at Red Bull Racing Australia.
52:10We've got plenty of stuff coming your way.
52:12Some great action still to come.
52:14Don't forget the Dunlop Series still ahead this afternoon.
52:16The V8 Utes as well and after this break, the Touring Car Masters.
52:20Stay with us.
