00:00:00Welcome back to the V8 Supercars on 7 Sport.
00:00:07Pit lane full of activity as the cars head out.
00:00:10Now we're getting ready for race 7, the second race of the afternoon.
00:00:13If it's anything like the first one, you will not want to miss a lap.
00:00:17In three weeks' time, we'll head back to Australia, right across to the west coast
00:00:21for the Chill Perth 360 Barbagallo Raceway, May 3 to 5.
00:00:25It'll feature the 60-60 Super Sprint format, and then on Sunday, two 100km races.

00:00:36Now we've made references to the changes at this venue, multi-million dollar facelift,
00:00:40but the biggest change on track is down turn 5, turn 6 section.
00:00:44So, Larko, let's take a closer look at that new section of the racetrack and just what it means.
00:00:49Yeah, well, it's well thought out, I've got to say, Matty.
00:00:51Before I do, just quickly, the Pukakoe track facts.
00:00:53We're in race 7 now, 36, 35 lapper.
00:00:56It's a sprint race, no pit stops, 100km, no pit stops, just full-on racing and tyres all hard.
00:01:03OK, so I've drawn on the board here, this is sort of turn 5, turn 6.
00:01:06Now, the first thing you'll note about it, it's actually very wide.
00:01:09This isn't just a corner, this has been specifically designed.
00:01:12There's a couple of ways you can approach this.
00:01:14One, here's our car coming into the turn, is what I'll call a classic, almost aggressive line.
00:01:19So, you're looking for an apex here and here, so the car will come in, look, something like this, nice little arc around there, and off it goes and up to the hairpin.
00:01:29Now, the problem with that, it optimises its speed at this point, but it's quite sharp here on the way down there.
00:01:34Now, the other way to go around it is what we call sacrificing a corner.
00:01:39So, you come in and you actually sacrifice a little bit of speed at this point.
00:01:45So, you've got to tuck the car in tighter.
00:01:47But what that does, it opens up the next corner that looks a little more like that.
00:01:52Now, the consequence of that is when you get down to this point, the car's actually travelling a little faster.
00:01:57Now, if I can just roll some vision here, and we'll have a look at this at the corner.
00:02:01Now, this is the two Davidson brothers, and you can see, look, we've highlighted the one on the right.
00:02:04There's Will Davo, so he's taking a classic or aggressive line, great in race mode.
00:02:09But when we play it again and look at Alex Davidson, slowing the car up, look, see, he's slower at this point.
00:02:15Now, what happens when we come back to our drawing?
00:02:18One, the first car at the middle of the corner, you can see my drawing there, is pointed about there.
00:02:23The second car at the same point, although he's slower, he's pointed at a little more angle like that.
00:02:29So what it means, that one down here is going a little faster.
00:02:34Now, that's great if you want to be in qualifying, but the other one, this one's actually better for racing,
00:02:38because you can afford to dive in there, grab a spot, and then hustle on your way out.
00:02:42So sometimes it's funny, eh?
00:02:44What just looks like pretty simple driving around a racetrack, believe me, every corner,
00:02:48every application of the brake and the throttle and the steering, there's a little bit of science involved.
00:02:52It's already a winner.
00:02:53That race that we saw earlier today was one of the best we've had in a long, long time.
00:02:57Scott McLaughlin, the young Kiwi, claimed victory for that one,
00:03:00and another Kiwi will start race seven on pole position.
00:03:03There he is, Fabian Coulthard.
00:03:05So can they keep this role going in front of this spectacular crowd at Pukekohe Park Raceway?

00:04:11which was a smash hit when it opened its doors for the Formula One World Championship.
00:04:18It's going to be great to see the V8s over there.
00:04:20Let's check in with Mark Barretta.
00:04:21Hey, Matty, just before we have a chat to Jamie Wincup, just have a look over my shoulder.
00:04:24Have a look at the crowd down here.
00:04:26As far as you can see, just a wall of people.
00:04:28So many people out here on the grid enjoying it.
00:04:30But the huge crowd that is up on the sides of this circuit at Pukekohe,
00:04:34they are so glad to see the V8s back here at this circuit.
00:04:36Now, Jamie Wincup, tough race six of the season for you, JW.
00:04:40What happened with the tyre?
00:04:42Have you worked out exactly what went wrong?
00:04:44Yeah, the tyre popped off the bead.
00:04:46So we start fairly low in the tyre pressures because we've got such a big, long race.
00:04:50And, yeah, but in saying that, I've used the kerb all weekend down at Turn 4.
00:04:56And it's one of the old original kerbs.
00:04:58It's been here for 100 years.
00:05:00But, yeah, it gobbled me up.
00:05:01And unfortunately, I must have hit it at the wrong angle, popped it off the bead.
00:05:04And that was the end of my race.
00:05:06Do you feel like there's a little bit to make up in Race 7?
00:05:08I think so.
00:05:09It's disappointing.
00:05:10I knew I was in trouble when I was heading down the straight with the steering wheel way off centre.
00:05:15So I'll see what I can do.
00:05:17Mate, I watched you in the Celebrity Challenge at the Grand Prix.
00:05:19So I picked up a few pointers.
00:05:21So I'll see how I go.

00:06:16GT, the first thing you notice walking up to your car, of course, is the great Anzac Day livery that you guys have jumped on board with.
00:06:21That must make you a little bit proud to be carrying that too on this car.
00:06:24Yes, certainly.
00:06:25I mean, this weekend, obviously, racing in New Zealand, it's, you know, usually Australians and New Zealand are trying to kill each other on a sporting field.
00:06:32But, you know, obviously, the Anzac tradition is all about going hand in hand.
00:06:35So it's great to be able to have the livery on the car now.
00:06:37In the lead-up into Anzac Day, we can raise awareness for the Anzac Day appeal home in Australia and also the Poppy Day appeal here in New Zealand.
00:06:44Now, GT, you're in a good spot here, third row.
00:06:46What's the plan off the start?
00:06:48I got a pretty good start last race and actually got a few down into turn two as well.
00:06:51So hopefully we can get another good start and get amongst it up the first couple of corners.
00:06:56We had really good speed in the last race.
00:06:58But actually, when you came over and pointed at the car, you pointed at this very thing on the rear wing, the gurney flap, and that broke off last race.
00:07:04So we lost a heap of downforce last race.
00:07:06So this one's not going anywhere.
00:07:07So hopefully we have a better run this time.
00:07:09Good to be back at Puka Cowie.
00:07:10Yeah, it is.
00:07:11I mean, it's such a hairy track.
00:07:14You know, obviously the bumps are bigger than when we were here last time.
00:07:16And the run onto the front straight is a lot of fun.
00:07:18And they've done a good job with the new section out the back as well.
00:07:20I don't think it's taken anything away from the character of the place.
00:07:23It's retained its old-world charm, if you like, and added a bit to it as well.
00:07:27You are so relaxed before this race.
00:07:29Well, I've done it for a few years now, Barrett.
00:07:31So you get used to it a little bit.
00:07:34Yeah.
00:07:34I can just tell you from having been in the car myself on the grid at my three races at the Grand Prix, it's quite tense before a race, I find.
00:07:41Yeah, well, you're only three races into your career.
00:07:42And you'll find that as you get more races under your belt, that'll become more natural for you.
00:07:46I'll just point out, GT, I've done 14 laps in anger.
00:07:48Yeah, no, I think there's a career for you.
00:07:50I mean, there's still a few spots left for the endurance races.
00:07:54So we used to see Scafie do the commentator-driver thing, and I think it might be your turn this year.

00:08:2540 kilometres south of Auckland, this is Pukecoe Park Raceway, and we are getting ready for
00:08:47the seventh race of 2013.
00:08:48This is our third event of the year at the revamped Puke venue, and the verdict is in.
00:08:54This is an absolute winner.
00:08:57There are a few nasty-looking clouds hovering around, but the forecast is saying mostly sunny
00:09:02for the rest of the afternoon.
00:09:04The pattern over the last few days has been a bit of rain later, pretty much early evening,
00:09:09so hopefully it shouldn't affect us too much as we crunch the numbers on this place.
00:09:13And Crompeau, take it away.
00:09:16Third fastest average speed of the 14 venues in the Championship Tour, just under 170 kilometres
00:09:22an hour, 11 corners.
00:09:24Slowest of them is that hairpin at turn eight.
00:09:26Very, very fast through turns 11 and one, and we've seen some unbelievable images so far
00:09:31this weekend.
00:09:32At the big talking points, the bumps, you heard drivers talk about it in the previous race
00:09:36in qualifying and the shootout, and that's what we'll be focused on in turn seven, how
00:09:39they cope with and handle all that.
00:09:42Race six of the year was almost a ride-off for Fabian Coulthard, penalised from second
00:09:46spot on the grid down to P10.
00:09:48Fabian, you move on from there?
00:09:50Yeah, look, it was a little bit rough, but that's life.
00:09:53You know, you cop it on the chin, and, you know, it wasn't a bad race.
00:09:56It probably went the best it could, you know, move from 10th up to 5th.
00:10:00So, yeah, look, clear track ahead of me now, so I'm going to hopefully capitalise on that.
00:10:03But you probably saw for Scotty earlier on, the home crowd here is just so in favour of
00:10:09you guys.
00:10:09That must be a big boost when you're out on the circuit.
00:10:11Yeah, look, if I couldn't win the race, you know, I'd love another Kiwi too, and, you
00:10:15know, Scotty did an awesome job.
00:10:16You know, I even got the chance to come down here and congratulate him down at the podium.
00:10:20So, look, all the Kiwis, we're here for each other, so there's only four of us, so we've
00:10:24got to make the most of it.

00:10:26Guys, I've got to say, there was a great moment as Scotty went down through Pit Lane earlier
00:10:30on, and everyone came out from the garages and congratulated him.
00:10:33Everyone wanted to shake his hand and just make that moment as special as it could be
00:10:37for him.

00:10:40Craig Lowndes, mate, position eight up to position three, so well done in the last race.
00:10:45Don't worry about a couple of blokes blowing tyres, that's a detail.

00:10:51I think that's, look, we've put ourselves in a much better position, and as I said, you
00:10:55know, after the first race today, that normally it's hard to pass, but, of course, the
00:10:59way the tyre's wearing out around here, around Apookie, it actually is interesting,
00:11:03because you've got to look after the car quite early on, but you've got to be racy
00:11:05enough to be in front of everyone, so we'll see what we can do.
00:11:08Well, I'll tell you, mate, my mate Brett is over here just talking to Coulthard, and they're
00:11:12just, they're doing the whole Kiwi thing.
00:11:13I'm over it, mate.
00:11:15Let's go to the Aussies.
00:11:16Let's see a bit of action.
00:11:17I want to show you something at the front of the cars just quickly.
00:11:19So we've got Coulthard's Commodore and Lowndes' Commodore, and we talk about the little
00:11:22tuning differences.
00:11:23If you look in the front of Craig's car, if we come down in here, you can see these little
00:11:27brake blankers.
00:11:28See the little things with holes in them?
00:11:30They're about 50% covered up.
00:11:31If we come over to Coulthard's car, and we have a look at exactly the same little orifice
00:11:36in there, you can see they're opened up, and that'll change the downforce, pressure down
00:11:40there, on the front of that car, versus the front of this car.
00:11:43Now, I'm just going to quickly run back, see if we can catch up with Will Davidson, and
00:11:47there's another view.
00:11:48Look, the front of that Falcon, you can see the radiator blinking in that one, versus
00:11:51the front of that Holden, no radiator blinking.
00:11:54Again, a little tuning difference.
00:11:56See if we can just grab Will Davo.
00:11:58So, Will, just very quickly, mate, position seven in the last race, second row of the
00:12:02grid.
00:12:03Need to fly the forward flag for us, mate, and the Aussie flag.
00:12:06Yeah, we're getting plenty of questions, but look, Frosty was looking good in the last
00:12:09one.
00:12:10It was really unfortunate for him, but now I've got a much better view.
00:12:13I much prefer sitting here than where I was in the last one.
00:12:15So, the car was pretty solid.
00:12:17Tie life is a big part of the race at the moment.
00:12:20So, you know, race trim, we seemed okay.
00:12:23Now we can start up towards the front and hopefully give all these boys a run for their
00:12:26money.
00:12:27Mate, just briefly tell us about driving the car in here, because when we look at the
00:12:30vision, the body languages of the car, well, the body language, it's more dynamic than
00:12:34anywhere we go to.
00:12:35I mean, are you conscious of that as you're driving the car, the severity of the bumps and
00:12:39what that may do?
00:12:39It's pretty wild in here, Larko.
00:12:42It's doing some crazy things with the car, so you've really got to learn, you know, where
00:12:46to drive around the bumps, how much brake pressure to carry over bumps, how much throttle to
00:12:50use, because it can really upset the car.
00:12:53It's a pretty wild old ride.
00:12:54So, flow and momentum, car balance is very tricky to find with all those bumps.
00:12:58Righto, buddy, stick it into them Kiwis, eh?

00:14:55collected his first ever V8 Supercar Championship win here in New Zealand
00:15:00on the streets of Hamilton.
00:15:01That was quite a moment.
00:15:04It looks nasty, but the way that the weather forecasters are saying
00:15:08it shouldn't bother us this race, I'm talking about the clouds, of course,
00:15:10not car number seven of Todd Kelly with a few marks over it this weekend.
00:15:14He will start from down in 24th position for race seven.
00:15:20Hey, Blake, we're keen to talk.
00:15:21We haven't seen any more weekend.
00:15:22Davey Reynolds, some really good racing in that last race, mate.
00:15:26You were in the rough and tumble there for a while.
00:15:28Yeah, it was all happening in front of me.
00:15:30No, car's going not bad.
00:15:32It's better than Tassie, and I haven't ridden any walls yet.

00:15:37I mean, 100km's, flat-out 35 laps.
00:15:40You like that approach without worrying about pit stops and strategy?
00:15:42Yeah, it's not too bad.
00:15:44It's actually quite hard to manage your tyres over the 35 laps
00:15:46because the degradation's quite high here.
00:15:50Yeah, it's an awesome track to drive.
00:15:53Like, you tune it based on how many moments you have,
00:15:55and the safer you are, the faster you go.
00:15:58Well, I'd say this, mate.
00:15:59Of all the assets you have, and you have a few,
00:16:01the thing I like most about you, mate, is you're fast.
00:16:04And I think these sort of races are for fast blokes, so good luck.

00:16:07You know, we've had 22 V8 supercar races at this circuit now.
00:16:13Holden have won 21 of them.
00:16:15The only Ford driver to find the chequered flag first
00:16:19was Marcus Ambrose back in 2004.
00:16:23Jamie Winkup still leads the championship
00:16:25by 28 points from Will Davison.
00:16:28So the big move is after race six,
00:16:30Lowndes up into third,
00:16:31and Scott McLaughlin with a full bank of points, of course.
00:16:33This start will be very interesting, Matt,
00:16:36because the start before with Winterbottom and Winkup
00:16:39was absolutely perfect.
00:16:41This man drove so well in qualifying
00:16:43and such a disastrous first race,
00:16:45but the Lowndes-Caulthard start
00:16:48will be interesting to see,
00:16:50and there's so much pressure on Fabian,
00:16:53pole position, home soil,
00:16:55to get around into turn two in front of Craig Lowndes.
00:16:59Big downhill start,
00:17:03very easy for the cars to roll.
00:17:04They're all on the handbrake very heavily,
00:17:06and they spool them up.
00:17:07They basically have the engine
00:17:09hard against that brake
00:17:11to try to make it jump off the line
00:17:14like an automatic transmission.
00:17:16You can see there the pressure on Coulthard on home soil,
00:17:18as I said, will be immense.

00:30:06Like you mentioned before, what is it, about three or four seconds down the back straight
00:30:09where you've got time to think and gather your thoughts,
00:30:11and then you're back into it again, riding the wild bronco.
00:30:15Now, for Winkup here, there's a consideration.
00:30:20He's got a margin over Lowndes who's a buffer for him.
00:30:23He doesn't need to go too crazy, but I'm sure he wants to be in front of Fabian.
00:30:27So, how much does he push?
00:30:30How hard does he force the point?
00:30:32Because there's a risk of blocking a brake, damaging a tyre, even making panel contact.
00:30:36That will be swimming through his mind at the moment,
00:30:39but he'll be acutely aware of the fact that he'd like to be the first man home.
00:30:42That's what drivers like Jamie want to do, isn't it?
00:30:45Because when you get close, then you start to hurt the brake temperature,
00:30:48the engine temperature, all the things.
00:30:50So, at the moment, with that 10-second penalty that Coulthard's got,
00:30:53Fabian Wallowers, he would be, right now, 13th.
00:30:58So, it's already come up through the field in terms of their speed,
00:31:01but your point, Neil, is really valid.
00:31:03What happens with Winkup?
00:31:04There's a lot of angst between these two blokes at the moment.
00:31:06Mark Winterbottom just on the radio.

00:31:09So, you can see he's just threading the nose around at the moment.

00:31:15you can tell by the way that Mark was positioning his car

00:31:23He's got to try and find a clean gap.
00:31:24He's not actually quite close enough at the moment.
00:31:26Winkup, meantime, is now on the rear bumper of Coulthard.

00:34:58Remember, Fabian Coulthard started this race from pole position.
00:35:01But it was a false start.
00:35:02He jumped so early.
00:35:03It was crystal clear.
00:35:04He has a ten-second penalty to be applied at the end of this race.
00:35:10So, before the safety car came out, he was leading the field.
00:35:14His job is to make up as much time as he can to limit the damage, if you like.
00:35:20The big question is, how much will this hurt him?
00:35:23Well, it's going to really hurt him because it bunches the field.
00:35:26Does Jamie Winkup take the opportunity early to have a dive?

00:35:45So, mate, tell us about driver contracts in this sort of situation.
00:35:49I mean, this early in the championship, guys free to race as long as they don't bash into each other?
00:35:53Absolutely.
00:35:53I mean, you know, I trust them both.
00:35:55You know, they're both going to drive hard.
00:35:57I know that.
00:35:57But, you know, they know I won't be too happy if it all goes wrong.
00:36:01So, I think, you know, Frosty's probably got a bit more pace on Will at the moment.
00:36:04But we'll see what happens.
00:36:06I think this has brought them all back together again.
00:36:07So, Garth and Reynolds are right on their bumper.
00:36:11It's a funny old dynamic, isn't it?
00:36:12Because we see it a lot in our game.
00:36:13And you've been in enough debriefs on Monday morning to have to deal with all of this sort of stuff.

00:37:11What's going on with Winkup there with the gap?
00:37:13He's supposed to keep the five car lengths, so it needs to be organised.
00:37:17I don't understand that at all.
00:37:19That is a very, very bad restart from a lot of guys.
00:37:24From Davison behind round by Winkup to Coulthard, that is a shocking restart.
00:37:30That's played a little bit back to Fabian because he needs to rebuild that margin.
00:37:36It all went away when the field bunched up under the safety car,
00:37:38and so straight away he gets a free kick,
00:37:40so that helps him straight away in the first couple of hundred metres.
00:37:44I don't understand at all.
00:37:46Does it make any sense to have those gaps at a restart?
00:37:51Well, it's also allowed Craig Lowndes to put pressure on his team-mate Winkup.
00:37:57And vice versa for the FPR cars,
00:38:01and here comes Mark Winterbottom on the inside at turn five.
00:38:05He has to take a lot of the curve.
00:38:07They don't touch Davison Holt's position on the switch.

00:40:12Then Tander got at Reynolds.
00:40:14And then it triggered a big traffic jam off the final corner.
00:40:17Gizzy down the inside.
00:40:18It shoved Bright out high and wide.
00:40:20Courtney went underneath.
00:40:21Now Jason Bright is out in the weeds here.
00:40:23And he was in fact touched.
00:40:25Courtney touched him on the dirty line out there.
00:40:28And there was no coming back for that for Jason Bright.
00:40:30But it spun both because Brian was able to go wide.
00:40:35That bump at the front has upset Courtney
00:40:38and turned the HRT car around at the same time.
00:40:41So normally the guy in front would spin.
00:40:44Wow.
00:40:46That's playing for keeps.
00:40:49I think we need a breather.

00:41:52Remember, a 10-second penalty still to be applied.

00:42:01We checked that then in the replay.
00:42:03So Dave Reynolds was in front of Tanda for the safety car.
00:42:07The race officials have ensured that's the case at the restart.
00:42:10So Winkup in behind with the two FPR guys.
00:42:13There's plenty of drama to play out there.
00:42:15We haven't even mentioned them yet.
00:42:17In the ad break, it's been all going on in the FPR bunker.
00:42:23Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom effectively sparked all of that trouble.
00:42:27Their little battle.

00:42:31And Winterbottom is now.
00:42:32Oh, and off the road goes Lowndes.
00:42:34Unbelievable.
00:42:35So under pressure, Lowndes understeers wide.
00:42:38And that was about as close as you get to a dangerous re-entry.

00:42:45And there'll still be a few waiting to pick him off.

00:42:50So Tanda forces Reynolds wide out of the hairpin.
00:42:54We saw them on the previous lap.
00:42:55They got them there together.
00:42:58And I don't think that story's over.
00:42:59Because Reynolds will want to square up there.

00:43:09There's so much going on.
00:43:10It's going to be a long, hard night for the judiciary.

00:43:20He's probably going to position for a run into turn five.
00:43:23This time he's very, very close at four.
00:43:25He's certainly determined to try and sneak by.
00:43:28So Rick Kelly up to ninth position.
00:43:32Great news for Nissan.
00:43:38So remember that Winterbottom has now cleared Davison.
00:43:41He's got pace.
00:43:42Because Coulthard's effectively holding wind cup at the moment.
00:43:44That's allowing the Pepsi Max car to get closer.
00:43:47But no.
00:43:48Wind cup down the inside.
00:43:49This is for the race lead.
00:43:50Remember.
00:43:51It may not be done yet.
00:43:53Fabian's got the inside running.

00:43:57That leaves Jamie Wind cup in the same spot that David Reynolds was.
00:44:00A few laps back when he leads it through.
00:44:03Unbelievably so.
00:44:05Wow, that's brave.
00:44:06And the run that now Winterbottom's got on them.
00:44:12And this is a healthy battle at the front.
00:44:14That is unbelievable.
00:44:20To drive around the outside of turn ten.
00:44:22Across the bump.
00:44:23Make it up the inside.
00:44:24Not make contact.
00:44:26And now Coulthard is vulnerable here.
00:44:29This is the mistake from Lowndes.
00:44:30We don't often see this.
00:44:32He's made a couple of pretty big blues there today.
00:44:35And when he goes back on.
00:44:37You see Rick Kelly flicks back the inside.
00:44:39Did a very good job.
00:44:40So Fabian under pressure now from Winterbottom.
00:44:42He'll be trying to set him up down to the hairpin.
00:44:45And it came at the right time for Wind Cup.
00:44:46Because if he hadn't got a wriggle on.
00:44:48He would have been attacked by Winterbottom.
00:44:49So watch Frosty to have the dive.
00:44:51He thought about it.
00:44:52Couldn't get it done.
00:44:53And Fabian was just far enough to the right to cover.
00:44:56But now the bottleneck begins again.
00:44:58Because Winterbottom, Davison and that next gang.
00:45:02Are all bunching up under the back of Coulthard's wing at the moment.
00:45:05Who still carries the halo of this 10 second penalty over him.
00:45:12It'll be a breather that Wind Cup needs.
00:45:14To settle his car down.
00:45:16And go easy on those tyres.
00:45:18We've actually seen more lap speed.
00:45:22And tyre degradation on these harder tyres.
00:45:24Later in the race than we expected.
00:45:25But the safety car interventions.
00:45:27Will have given the tyres a reprieve.
00:45:29But they are hurting a little bit here.
00:45:31Late in the run.
00:45:32Look at this.
00:45:33This is unbelievable.
00:45:36That's fifth gear.
00:45:37They are.
00:45:39And it's so talented to get those two cars in and around there.
00:45:41Without making contact, Neil.
00:45:42Yeah, top marks for both the boys there.
00:45:44Because they didn't play dirty.
00:45:46They got through there side by side.
00:45:48It was a tremendous performance by both drivers.
00:45:51Both Wind Cup and Coulthard to pull that off at turns 10 and 11.
00:45:55Jamie Wind Cup is taking advantage of the fact that Fabian Coulthard is between him and Mark Winterbottom.
00:46:02That helps Wind Cup.
00:46:05He'll be happy to see Coulthard in his rear vision mirror for the rest of the race.
00:46:09Because Winterbottom can go blow for blow with him in terms of track speed.
00:46:13He's got to get around car 14 before he can have a crack at Wind Cup.
00:46:18So the gap this time around is 0.7 of a second.
00:46:21A 1.04.0 for Wind Cup.
00:46:231.04.2 for Coulthard.
00:46:25And a 1.04.4 for Winterbottom.
00:46:27And because of this bunching of the field on two occasions, there's James Courtney.
00:46:32The long walk back to the pit lane.
00:46:34A 10-second penalty for Coulthard at the moment would put him back in 21st position.
00:46:43So, can you believe it?
00:46:45Wind Cup, last year's series champion, hasn't won a race this year.
00:46:48Coulthard finally gets by.
00:46:51And got a little bit of clear air now to Coulthard, who's got that 10-second penalty, as we said.
00:46:56So, Winterbottom is your effective man in second place from Davison, Tander, Reynolds, Brightbank, Gisberg and Kelly Cramer.
00:47:03Top 10.
00:47:04And Russell on the inside of Craig Lowndes.
00:47:10Alex Davison tried to go with him, but David Waugh was on to that one.
00:47:15Lowndes may hold this position here.
00:47:18This is so brave.
00:47:22Lowndes is struggling, isn't he?
00:47:23And these two guys on screen are two of the five drivers that have been here for all of the championship races.
00:47:28Plus, in the case of Russell Ingle, he was also here in 96, the exhibition race, when 12 of the cars were brought over here.
00:47:38So, they know what it's like to race here.
00:47:41The whole side-by-side act at the last two corners.
00:47:45That would have had disastrous consequences then if Davison fired down the inside of Waugh there.
00:47:52Frost has just got to get a better run onto the back straight because he's not close enough at the braking area for turn five.
00:47:58He comes out of there nice, out of six.
00:48:00You see that elevation on the road and the way that the guys use every little bit of road there.
00:48:04He almost again had a little look.
00:48:10Dave Reynolds now right up in behind Sander.
00:48:12Actually missed the gear change out of the hairpin there and he's vulnerable now to Jason Bright.
00:48:18And despite Kultad going back in the pack when the official results are published, this is a vital test session for them.
00:48:25What they will be concerned about at Brad Jones Racing in the Lockwood car is the fact that they don't have the race pace of Wink Cup.
00:48:31So, this is a vital test session for them to understand where they're at competitively.
00:48:37Clearly, Red Bull Racing Australia and Pepsi Max Sport Performance Racing have made steps with both their cars in these recent races.
00:48:44They're now starting to match these guys that got away from them early in the year.
00:48:47That's exactly right.
00:48:49So, that would now position Fabian in 14th just in front of Russell Engel.
00:48:55The gap back to Russell Engel is 10.58 seconds.
00:48:58So, at the moment, he would be relegated further back down the field as we just said.
00:49:03So, this is a pretty good battle because, as you said before, Winnabottom with a good dive.
00:49:09And he turns it in early and locked the rear brakes but he got in and around there.
00:49:13Fabian's going to bat on with it.
00:49:15Again, we've said about this, he's just breathed out of the floor.
00:49:18That's a smart move.
00:49:19You don't need to get involved in driving around the outside if you don't have to.
00:49:23And a nice position change then to Mark Winnabottom.
00:49:25He had a big cheek spin.
00:49:26Fabian had to really recover that slide right in the middle of that corner and see the margin he lost.
00:49:32It actually put him right back in touch with Will.
00:49:35So, with seven laps remaining, now we get to see exactly what Mark Winnabottom has to offer
00:49:43in terms of reeling in Jamie Winncup, who's 1.7 seconds clear.
00:49:49James Courtney just walking back to Garrard's mate.
00:49:51Just from where we were watching, that was wild.
00:49:54Yeah, I didn't know what happened up front, but something happened coming out of the last corner
00:49:57so they all bunched up and went down the inside behind Shane
00:50:03and Bridie just come carving across the back of him and I couldn't disappear.
00:50:08So, we touched and in the end, I think I'm the one that came off worse.
00:50:12So, it's disappointing.
00:50:13The car was better in the second race than what we had in the first one.
00:50:16So, we'll see what happens.

00:50:22Now, normally, it's pretty incriminating if you run into the back of another car at that point.
00:50:28But he was down there.
00:50:30Jason Bright, we've spoken about visibility before.
00:50:32Jason Bright wouldn't have known he was there.
00:50:33So, he did turn in on him.
00:50:35You can't hang the car off skyhooks.
00:50:37He's actually going to put it somewhere.
00:50:38Yeah.
00:50:38And in the end, they make contact.
00:50:39So, no one wants to make contact going that fast.
00:50:42Both parties fairly, in terms of deliberate actions, I think quite innocent in this one.
00:50:50Courtney would be frustrated because he's been off to a good point start in the championship.
00:50:54He came in here this weekend in third.
00:50:56It's been the best series start for him in a little while.
00:50:59That momentum is really important to maintain in the early races.
00:51:02There's Tony Delberto in the high flex entry.
00:51:04He's just tucked up in the middle of this pack at the moment.
00:51:08Spoke to him a little earlier.
00:51:09He's behind Todd Kelly in the Jack Daniels entry.
00:51:12And the two Wilson security cars are next for Dick Johnson Racing.
00:51:16And they started off the rear of the grid.
00:51:18So, they've come up the order slightly as well.
00:51:20Hard to imagine that the battle could be so vigorous.
00:51:23And these guys are battling for 20, 21, 22, 23.
00:51:29That's a really good performance.
00:51:30Just behind Van Gisbergen, you can see Rick Kelly there.
00:51:33He's having a bit of a battle with Prema, who's been very competitive all weekend.
00:51:36But that is the highest position we've seen in championship races off of the very competitive
00:51:43at the Grand Prix.
00:51:44Yeah, so this would be the highest championship finishing position for one of those cars,
00:51:48excluding what happened at the Grand Prix.
00:51:50So, for Rick to be in the 10s, a ripper.
00:51:52There he is.
00:51:52We've just been watching the timing last time around at the front.
00:51:59Jamie Winkum was into the 104s.
00:52:01Well, Winnerbottom dipped it into the high 103s.
00:52:04And the net result is, with five full laps remaining,
00:52:07it's an eight-tenth of a second gap between first and second.
00:52:12And while we're on numbers and positions,
00:52:14Coulthard, who's now third, penalty applied at this moment,
00:52:17would put him back about where Lowndes is, back around 15th.
00:52:20So, that'll give you an idea as the field begins to settle and spread once again.
00:52:23So, that means that Will Davison is in effective third.
00:52:27So, he's looking at a podium.
00:52:29I mentioned earlier, Ford has only won one of the 22 V8 Supercar Championship races
00:52:34held at this circuit.
00:52:35It was 2004.
00:52:36Frosty's got five laps or four full laps now
00:52:43to change that piece of history around.
00:52:46He's got it down to seven-tenths, six-tenths.
00:52:49The men that are first and second in the race
00:52:50both suffer from tyre problems in race six.
00:52:53So, they'll be acutely aware at the moment
00:52:55of making sure that they don't end up with a car positioned awkwardly.
00:52:59We think it's on this exit kerb at turn four.

00:54:01And it's interesting because I reckon Wincup
00:54:02would have had to use more of everything,
00:54:04tyres and brakes,
00:54:05in that little battle to clear the Coulthard.
00:54:07That's now hurt him.
00:54:08And when he got past,
00:54:10I said that was timely because if he hadn't,
00:54:12he would have been swamped
00:54:13by the man chasing him at the moment
00:54:15who was clearly very, very quick.
00:54:18And these are the sorts of things now
00:54:20that Frosty's got to do.
00:54:21When you get to this point,
00:54:22you've got to go on with it.
00:54:23He's got to have a dive at him.
00:54:27He's very, very fast.
00:54:28We often say his qualified performances, etc.,
00:54:31are very good,
00:54:32but there's just too much of the racing stuff
00:54:34that impacts his overall performance.
00:54:36And now he's worked very, very hard.
00:54:38He's only three or four tenths of a second behind.
00:54:41And you've just got to make this work now.
00:54:43So fast, isn't it?
00:54:49It's just a great racetrack.
00:54:51So Jamie's responded a bit.
00:54:53He did a 64.2 this up.
00:54:55He's wide at one.
