00:00what a sight on this 50th anniversary of Kukakohe Park Raceway first opened in 1963 it is the
00:12spiritual home of New Zealand motorsport hosted the New Zealand Grand Prix here for several years
00:18some of the greats of world motorsport have driven around here Stirling Moss Jackie Stewart Graham
00:23Hill head here for the Tasman series during the European winter and of course the V8 supercars
00:28have a long and successful history here from 2001 and through to 2007 seen some awesome races you
00:36here Krompo over the years and it's great to be back after six years great to be back we've got
00:41three new corners added for 2013 turns five six and seven you can see on screen they're just a
00:47little under three kilometres around this racetrack with a very high average speed of about 170 kilometres
00:52an hour seen some great action so far peak speed is around about 255 slowest corner is turn eight that
01:00hairpin and it's pretty hard on brakes it's very hard on suspension and we've already seen a couple
01:05of very close near misses good news is it's a five-year deal so it's been locked in until at
01:11least 2017 almost seven million dollars has been spent on sprucing up this wonderful circuit the old
01:18girl looks an absolute treat so what changes have taken place what do they mean how do you attack
01:23them well let's find out as we get the proper racing line thanks to Penrite with Mark Scaife and Mark Larkham
01:29so Scaifey Matty and I have just nicked the safety car actually had a little blaze around and in
01:36between sessions mate first of all I'm going to say I think congrats for everyone involved in upgrading
01:41this job but what blew me away is with the upgrades upgrades the character of the joint has absolutely
01:47remained well I mean a great part of it is that we've always loved the circuit haven't we mate it's
01:51fast it's flowing it's bumpy so we've left the bumps say for turn one 250 kilometres an hour you're
01:56into that corner left the bumps and then we've tried to keep this piece as old in terms of character
02:01as the old piece was but we put two new kerbs in to just contain the cars in this zone so they come
02:07through here yeah over 200 k's right the middle of this down to about 90 k at the final corner of
02:13this complex at turn four all right well let's whiz over the back on show let's have a new section
02:17okay so the cars blaze down the back straight here 255 kilometres an hour before this break here now
02:22mate initial observations this is very wide and secondary this seems to be more than just a new
02:28corner there's a little bit of science in this mate for overtaking yeah well as you said really high
02:32speed approach easy corner to miss because the road runs off it's a little bit like the sand
02:37down right left coming onto the straight yep but we've super elevated so we put four degrees of
02:42camber on turn six so you get through turn five using all the kerb yep then run it around and make
02:47sure you make the apex of turn six it's about 90k and it should basically create being so wide a bit
02:54of a difference in terms of their line the approach there's a way of cheating it in and a way to get
02:58out well I reckon we'll have a look at that over the course of the weekend because there's going to
03:01be a couple of different ways to get through this corner let's go over and have a look at a little bit
03:05more of the old circuit okay so we're standing smack in the middle of turns 10 and 11 on the
03:10way up to the main straight but on the way here we've come through what always has been the
03:14traditional hairpin but mate you've hotted that up as well much better overtaking opportunity well
03:18but well adding turn five we've made that opportunity to go through a little complex but when you come
03:22out of the complex yeah there's a kink at turn seven and then turn eight the cars do about 175k
03:28yeah before the hairpin and still wide it's still wide so that'll mean that there's crossover there's all the
03:33stuff we've always said at the hairpin so that's a traditional corner that we haven't really messed
03:36with too much yeah but this is the bit that I'm excited about like this is the best piece of this
03:40whole race you know the best thing I mean have a look at this vision they've left the character here
03:44I mean that this is the bumpiest part of racetrack anywhere we go the drivers love it which is kind
03:49of weird but it had to stay made it really that to me it's part of the culture of this book of
03:53cowie circuit and it's fifth gear it is seriously fast and there's not many corners in the world
03:57that are like this one they arrive sideways from the left over the bump gather them up change
04:02direction turn it onto the straight and swoop into this spot where there is no room for error
04:07the wall is as you can see right next to the track this is very committed stuff and it is very cool
04:12because look over our shoulders like a tunnel you go up into the cauldron between all the people
04:16and all going go forward go I think it's go hold you go that was always going to end in tears wasn't
04:24it it's an amazing circuit and it's just even better now with these upgrades and the resurfacing and the
04:31money that's been poured into it the new pit lane facility it's really looking a treat and of course
04:36the kiwi drivers have had a ball here through the years greg murphy the undisputed king of pookie
04:40with nine race wins and two pole positions but it might be a bit of a different story for
04:46fabian coulthard the local hero of 2013 you've got some news regarding that qualifying session
04:50that top 10 shootout lap there larko well the big news down here maddie uh fabian coulthard fastest
04:56in the shootout now penalized and relegated to position 10 now we're going to show the footage
05:01here fabian guilty of trimming the curb mate but if we talk about the penalty fitting the crime what's
05:06your view oh look you know the rules are the rules but i think it's a little bit harsh you know it's
05:11pretty line ball you know when you're slowing anything down to the freeze frame that they did
05:15investigate the situation i feel like i've been a little bit hard done by but look we play by the
05:21rules i start it just makes my job a little bit harder yeah particularly this format mate sorry
05:25second fast i think i said you're fast now i noticed you're waving there if we just turn the camera
05:28around from 10th on the grid here fabs can look straight up there there you are that's his mum up
05:33there happily uh looking down and should be very very proud of his son of her son yeah when someone
05:39loses someone gains and that's the case for mark winterbottom uh frosty moving to the front row here
05:44gives you a nice view straight up the track a bit of a bonus yeah it is um obviously you uh you want
05:50to get him in speed not not like that but i've been on that same receiving end in 2008 at adelaide when
05:55i was on pole and and got bumped nine positions so uh yeah you do feel for him but at the same time
06:01i've witnessed or i've been part of what he he just got then it's a harsh penalty but uh and he proved my
06:06view so hopefully we can get the job done try and uh use our speed that i think we've got and
06:12try and get a win for the forward fans it'll be it'll be a good race all the best enjoy it frosty
06:16we'll let him get set uh jamie wincup right here beside him they'll have the drag off the start line
06:20as you look down the grid here you can see that the start is on a slight upward slope so it's going
06:25to make it a little bit more tricky uh jason bride here scotty mclaughlin just about to buckle up
06:30and just before he does scotty it's been a great start to the year but this second row of the grid
06:34here at puka cohe's fantastic yeah it's awesome it's my best qualifying year unfortunately for
06:38baby and he got put back but uh good for me so just looking forward to going out there and having
06:42a bit of fun all the very best to know the locals are going to be right behind you scott thank you
06:46very much cheers craig leowns position eight craig the car's clearly fast mate but you took a shortcut
06:51across the grass didn't quite work for you yeah it didn't uh didn't work for me last time either so
06:55i should have learned the first time yeah the car is good just made a mistake down into turn five
06:59locked up a tire to save the tire went through the grass through the grass area and uh of course
07:04we lived to fight another day and uh i've already picked up two spots how good is this if i wait a
07:08bit longer i might get to six and what about this format mate because no pit stops i mean at the end
07:12of the day it is just hardcore racing so i guess when i stand here and look up there it's not that far
07:16to the guys up front no it's not but it's uh you know it's pretty intense i think what we saw last
07:21weekend at tasmania that you've got to qualify well at the front once you get there it's easy to stay
07:25there trying to get back is always a hard thing especially when we don't have the i suppose the
07:29advantage of strategy pit stops the guys in the in obviously pit lane but uh hey look we'll see
07:34what we can do today clearly the biggest problem mate is going to be the bunch of kiwis around you
07:37yeah yeah yeah you're probably right about that uh but look here we'll see what happens uh i've
07:41probably got a furious one behind me i reckon you're right good luck buddy let's go let's not
07:46forget that craig lowndes is currently on 90 career race wins one more this weekend we'll put him
07:53to the top of the all-time list talking of list let's take a look at the championship point score
07:58jamie wink up there 513 yet to win a race but it's just been that consistency in fact the top three
08:04are yet to break through for a race win so far this season craig lowndes weekend in tasmania
08:10really hurt him it'll be jamie's 131st championship event start and it's a significant number on a couple
08:18of fronts it equals him with paul dumbrell who we won bathys with last year and it also equals him
08:24with jason richards former teammates at tasman back in 2005 of course jason left us in december 2011
08:31and this weekend a wonderful touch the jason richards memorial trophy will be awarded to the
08:37driver with the best combined results over the four races jason left us a couple of years ago he's gone
08:44but certainly not forgotten an enormous crowd on the hill in the grandstands they're here to witness
08:56the changing face of pukekoe park raceway and race six of the series
09:01and from the pole position it's jamie winkup red bull racing australia alongside mark winterbottom so
09:14fourth versus holden on row one then it's jason bright scotty mclaughlin for a holden row two boc
09:19versus fujitsu third row of the grid local hero shane van gisberg and vip pet foods and he's with
09:25frenchman alex prema davy reynolds reinvigorated this weekend bottle racing he's with craig
09:31lounge seven and eight positions nine and ten these guys both carrying penalties into this race
09:35garth tander and fabian piltard so 11 and 12 belong to will davison first time outside of the top 10
09:42in qualifying so far this season but he was only one spot out of there his brother's behind him with
09:46jonathan webb alongside him rick kelly is the leading nissan in the field a great job from tim
09:52blanchard out of djr wilson security racing just his 20th career race start he will qualify from position 16
09:59further back todd kelly's already had his dramas this weekend tony dalberto team high flex is made
10:05up of a whole stack of kiwis down there in the garage so they'll be urging tony on 23 and 24 james
10:11moffat's had some wild rides russell ingle a bit of damage going off in practice and again in qualifying
10:18and johnny reid is one of four kiwis in the field tim's late at the rear so the four kiwis are
10:24reed shane van gisbergen baby and scott mclaughlin a couple of interesting numbers
10:30come out of this race historically that there's about a 75 probability of safety car intervention
10:36we often see a lot of incidents here and we've seen them already in practice qualifying and the
10:39shootout the other thing is the conversion rate from pole to win here isn't that flash either it's
10:44less than 20 percent worth bearing in mind as we rattle through the field here of all the onboard
10:49action that you're going to see in this race it's going to be a beauty so the schedule for the
10:55weekend in terms of racing is four races 35 laps each 100 k's
11:04that will require only 85 liters of fuel and these tanks are 112 liters so no stocks
11:09no planned stocks throughout this race it's become a really popular format as well
11:14and looking at top speed now 255 k's at the end of the back straight and an average speed of 168 k's
11:22which now puts a third on all the circuits that we go to only bathys and phillip island faster
11:27so now in this race matt we reignite that battle that's been going season after season between
11:32wind cup and winter bottom they're on the front row of the grid we've seen some terrific stouches
11:36between them over a long period of time career best qualifier for young scotty mclaughlin on the
11:43second row of the grid in front of his home crowd here he's enjoyed every moment of his young v8
11:50supercar career it's amazing to think that this is just his ninth race start and this is a very hard
11:57start matt with a downhill start like this green flag about to come out grid set and as neil said
12:03wink up versus winter bottom to the first corner this will be fantastic green flag
12:07green flag
12:10so up to six years in the making pukakoe park raceway roars back to life in the v8 supercar championship
12:19win cup and winter bottom toe to toe down to turn one
12:27the two fujitsus gang up and take positions three and four so a good move from alex premer
12:33to go from sixth to fourth
12:37two of the best starts i've seen that start from wink up and winter bottom were absolutely even
12:43and they gapped the field they were perfect starts from the front row look at this it's been a clean
12:48start for the entire field 27 cars massive locker for wink up he's going to go straight through
12:54that's down at turn five you'll have to pull him behind you have to slow up i have to redress this
13:00he's damaged for a new front left tire okay there you go wind cup on the radio he's damaged that front
13:07left beyond repair and it's actually popped i think so he's in and yields the lead then to mark
13:14winterbottom with a margin how's the angry pack down at the hair that's massive he only just got away
13:20with it and cranked sideways at turn 10. so winterbottom now has the lead scott mcblockland is second
13:27you should have seen him in the grandstands as he came past that's alex premer third
13:33then it's jason bright craig lowndes tander somehow held on van gibbergen reynolds
13:40kultart and will davison make up our top 10. i'll bet you winkup's tire was punctured before the
13:45braking area as soon as he put his foot on the brake and immediately locked and he was gone
13:49that was punctured as a result of damage coming onto the back straight reynolds having a look up the
13:54inside of kultart there's not much room here as we also show you this pit stop at red bull for the
13:59front left that'll put a cold tire on there you'll have to nurse that for the first lap they're side
14:03by side through five it's still on between reynolds and kultart van gisbergen in the mixing fabian's on the
14:10outside of the hairpin and stays on the house the outside
14:18so that's a position of going for shane van gisbergen he goes up to seven
14:26reynolds has been doing side-by-side racing since the get-go davison behind him gets the car all out of
14:33shape he's not alone though that was great driving there davison and reynolds to get through turn 10
14:43and 11 like that is the highest level of commitment and no bumping very very nice driving james courtney
14:49also a very good job to tuck in behind davison there without making contact really good quality stuff
14:56uh standing flying lap time i'm sorry first flying lap time is a 64.7 even the standing lap was very
15:03quick for winter bottom here's bright tander tander accounts lounge i think was very close to off the
15:10road down there at five right over the top of the curve so that was garth up into fifth
15:17and he's got damage on the grill of that hold and as they negotiate the turn eight hairpin great
15:22air buffer here for winter bottom and how's the performance of the fujitsu cars in second and
15:26third with mclaughlin and prema guys here's an insight into what happened to jamie's tire he's
15:32actually the angle he's hit the curb has just popped the tire off the bead so um just a bad bad
15:38piece of luck the way he's hit the curb at the speed and the force has just basically ripped the tire off
15:44that is bad like where it's especially after such a scapey said such a an even good start
15:51whole position he got a ripper look at this this jump the two of them a perfect jump two front cars
15:57look at the way they walk away from the field absolutely alongside each other look at the gap
16:02they've got that's as good as you would ever see from the two front grid holders
16:12you watch to the left here watch mark winter bottom yield a bit so he gets the nose up in front
16:17and the pepsi max board and just there he went i can't go on with this clever yeah good decision
16:21because it's dirty on the outside there he'd understeer off the road see it's already on the
16:25angle it's gone so that tire was already punctured before he got there so he had no choice but to blaze
16:31through he's got a great margin at the moment though he's got a 1.3 second margin winter bottom
16:38over mclaughlin so wind cup having to recover from the back of the field but he's just done the fastest
16:43lap of the race full start against car 34 of alex premise so 10 seconds whoa hold on dune fiore
16:5110 seconds will be added to the race time of that car right there 34 alex primer which means that he was
16:58either moving at the light change or the front wheels were outside the box past the actual start
17:04line now remember that winter bottom is also hurting from losing that race last weekend he was stung by
17:10what happened when coultard went by and he hasn't had a race win since may last year so he is going to
17:16be on it at the moment mark winter bottom and try and get these guys up there where he and the team feel
17:21they rightfully belong no question he was gristling just six days ago at simmons plains raceway but
17:28now he's got clear skies ahead of him and great track position because our championship leader jamie
17:34winkup is currently last
17:42you're riding with david reynolds the bottle of ford car 55 he's inside the top 10
17:49mark winterbottom also out of ford performance racing leads the race
17:53from scott mclaughlin 2.3 seconds behind bit of news in the break believe it or not black flag pit
17:59lane penalty jamie wind cup car number one exceeding the pit lane speed limit so when the tide goes out
18:05in this business it goes right out it's cruel isn't it so he's probably arrived too quick across the
18:11initial control line here he is serving that obviously we've got a lap down but we still need
18:17to learn we still need to get uh good read on these tires uh so mark dutton's saying let's just focus
18:24this now on being a test session get something out of it we're a lap down isn't that the kick in the
18:30guts given if you go back and think about that lap that he put together in the shootout which mark
18:36scape you've said is one of the best you've ever seen especially around here and that's the kind
18:41of luck that plays out from pole position grm have got their own concerns on car 34 he's got a 10
18:47second penalty to be added at the end of this race alex primer for a full start
18:52matty how much does offland love its v8 supercars every time scotty mclaughlin comes by the crowd
18:58over here go to their feet it is an amazing turnout a huge crowd and that size crowd is repeated in
19:04different spots all around the circuit but they are loving being so close to the action and having
19:09this race back at puka koei park is an awesome turnout they are right into it too new zealand motorsport
19:15fans got that and i tell you from that hill there that we're looking at that you were just saying
19:19you can see them come up around turn 10 up over the rise at turn 11 you've got no idea of the
19:25elevation changes and the bumps of this circuit and whilst the drivers complain about the bumps
19:30that's what makes this circuit that's the character of this circuit that's what they actually deep down
19:34love because that means that they've got to pilot this car using their or every ounce of their skill
19:41no doubt and the level of commitment there is extraordinary as i said before it's one of the best
19:45couple of corners 10 and 11 this is 10 that you will ever see and the bump right where the cars are now
19:54upsets the car
19:57and the conversion that bump there from the left to right is wild and to watch from where
20:04mark barretta referred to the crowd on the old ford hill that is one of the best places to watch
20:10motorsport anywhere in the world and in analysis when you watch how long the cars react to that
20:16bump it gives you a true indication of their behavior and how well they're tuned to the road some cars
20:21they they dampen the effect of that buck quickly and they settle down others go on with it for a while
20:25so as you watch our coverage over the course of the weekend you watch very carefully and you'll see
20:29the cars that are behaving those that aren't board now with dave reynolds right up behind fabian
20:36called bar so remember he got the penalty he went from the front row of the grid to 10th
20:45and this is as good as it gets in terms of following a local hero around one of the best
20:51racetracks that you'd ever want to drive on this is the section we just referred to have a look
21:07so then telemetry on the top left will tell the story of the speeds
21:11this shot will show you the bumps and the wheel work oh let's ride with davey reynolds here
21:21so
21:29so
21:35so
22:11Back up to top gear and top speed along the main straight.
22:17All of that in just 64 seconds.
22:20And then when they arrive down here in turn one, there's this signature bump as well.
22:26There's probably about five to seven seconds of peace down the back straight.
22:30The rest of the time, there's a fair amount of white knuckle fever around here.
22:34It's 3.2 seconds, the gap Winterbottom to McLachlan.
22:36And check this out.
22:37Tire to... Oh, massive damage on the left rear of Winterbottom's car.
22:41It's peeled the rubber off, pulled the guard off.
22:44Why? That is unbelievable. From the lead.
22:47So there's damage at the back there.
22:49Is that caused by the tire just falling apart?
22:52Or was there contact?
22:54Might be curb related again.
22:56And what that has done, it's taken our first two race leaders out of the picture.
23:01And it's put Scott McLaughlin, the 19-year-old Kiwi, in charge of this race at Pukakoe.
23:07What about the reception he's going to get around here?
23:11They can't believe it.
23:12They're on their feet.
23:15And they're going nuts.
23:18A teenager leading the V8 supercar race.
23:21He did a great to see.
23:22And he did a great job at the non-championship event in Melbourne.
23:25Picked up the win, but didn't have the championship points attached to it.
23:28And he's on target now.
23:30Safety car.
23:31There'll be debris everywhere.
23:32There'll be carcass of tyre and mudguard.
23:34It's absolutely exploded.
23:37So, interesting question for me here is why some of that.
23:44Look at the damage.
23:45The tyre becomes like a rope.
23:47So, all the construction of the tyre has delaminated.
23:51And just torn the back guard off this falcon.
23:53It's unbelievable.
23:56Be back after this.
23:57Can Scotty McLaughlin hold on for his first championship win?
24:04What an amazing turn of events.
24:06Here at race six of the championship.
24:08Our opening race at the ITM 400 Auckland.
24:11You can see that the Pettis Chrysler safety car has the field in its hands.
24:18And Scott McLaughlin is first to the queue.
24:21And an interesting scenario here.
24:23We know that Alex Premier is going to be pinged 10 seconds for a false start.
24:27He's currently in second.
24:30So, he can kind of run a bit of defence here for his young teammate.
24:34Because he can't get the win.
24:36Unless he streets them.
24:38That's unlikely.
24:39So, it's a really interesting balance as Mark Winterbottom comes back in.
24:43Sorry, Matty.
24:44What they're going to make him do.
24:45I was talking to Frank Adamson from VO Supercars.
24:47They need to repair this damage a little bit better.
24:49So, nothing ends up flying off into the crowd.
24:51Because the air can get in there, as you can see.
24:53And tuck in there in the hole.
24:56That'll be quite high pressure there.
24:57And you get in there and potentially blow some of those parts off.
24:59So, the guys always carry, rather than rolls of race tape, they carry these great big strips of it ready to go.
25:05Which is a great tool for holding bumpers on and guards on and covering great big holes.
25:09But if I could just grab you, Rich, and come with me for a sec, mate.
25:12We'll come around.
25:13Let's have a look at this tyre of Winterbottom.
25:15It's just trying to work out what's going on here.
25:18Very, very difficult.
25:19But the back edge of those kerbs out there on the circuit, not all of them, I can tell you, are very, very sharp.
25:24So, what we suspect is happening is, this is a tyre that just come off.
25:28Although, there's no real clear evidence.
25:29But I was just talking to the Kevi Fitzsimmons from Dunlop.
25:32It's possible that, as this is dragging across the kerb, the kerb is just literally catching the inside edge of the tyre there.
25:40But if you look there, there's no witness mark.
25:42There is no mark on the rim itself.
25:44So, a little bit hard to analyse at the time.
25:46But when you get two front cars happen, same place on the track, you'd have to suspect that's what it would be.
25:50Yeah, well done, Larco.
25:51And probably two different reasons, because the left front safety car comes off now.
25:55The left-hand front for Wing Cup, that was very early, low tyre pressures, and actually pulled the tyre off the bead.
26:01The other one's had some other sort of damage.
26:04Sensational job from McLaughlin to pull away.
26:08Might even be tight.
26:10It was a good one.
26:12He saw him put the distance on his team-mate and Jason Bright.
26:18So, at the restart, McLaughlin leads them through.
26:20Then it's Prem and Bright, Tanda Lowndes.
26:23That's your top five.
26:24Shane Van Gisbergen, the bright yellow car, 97.
26:33I think it's from there, Matt.
26:35I reckon that's where the damage is.
26:40Down here at turn five.
26:42Tanda has a look on the inside of Bright.
26:45Lowndes goes in search of clean air.
26:46Fabian Coulthard tucked up behind Van Gisbergen.
26:51Reynolds, Will Davison and James Courtney behind them to make up in top ten.
26:57Isn't it a cruel sport?
26:59The drama for Wing Cup.
27:00The drama for Winterbottom.
27:01Winterbottom was three and a half seconds in the lead and gone.
27:03And now, young Scott McLaughlin, young New Zealand hero, at the front of this field.
27:10This will be the most pressure that this young man has ever been under in his short career.
27:15Because to lead on home turf in front of the best drivers in the world, this is big time.
27:21As Neil mentioned, he's already had success this year finding the chequered flag at the Australian Grand Prix, the non-championship event.
27:31This one will mean absolutely everything to him.
27:34Originally from Christchurch, now he's here in front of the Pukekohe crowd that loves motorsport, loves seeing Kiwis win on this circuit.
27:43He got used to it through the years of Greg Murphy's dominance.
27:46Alex Bremmer's keeping in touch with him, though, here at the moment.
27:50He's certainly not throwing in the towel.
27:54And Lowndes has been absolutely chewing away on the back of Garth Tander's car now for quite a lot of laps.
28:01There's a fair bit of action in that queue when you look at it.
28:03You've got Tander, Lowndes, and then Van Gisberger trying to claw his way by.
28:08And immediately behind him is Coulthard, who we know has got a quick car.
28:11So nobody in that group can afford to blink, or they'll drop a spot or more.
28:16Notice the difference in the line there.
28:18Some of the guys use more road through turn 10 after the bump and run it straight to turn 11.
28:24Other guys trying to hold the car over the bump and hold it to the left, which creates more of a classic line for the final corner.
28:31That technique through there makes a lot of difference.
28:33Same with this technique down at turn 1.
28:35There's a big bump on the entry.
28:36We've seen it all weekend.
28:38You've got to try to drive the car away from the bump and minimise the disruption to the chassis or the balance of the car.
28:46It gives you relative positions and the changes in the field on the co-tire leaderboard.
28:53Glotford leads into turn 5.
28:56I'm just in the garage with a very nervous Gary Rogers.
28:58Gary, is it a bit edgy being up the front?
29:01Well, it's very pleasant to be up the front, to be quite honest.
29:04Mind you, it was still to be at the front at the finish.
29:07Hasn't Scotty done a great job?
29:08For a young fellow, a 19-year-old, he's incredible.
29:10He is, and he's just such a lovely young fellow, and that's what's so great about him.
29:14He's relaxed, he enjoys what he's doing.
29:16He hasn't had his mind tainted, and I'm sure he won't.
29:20It's been three years since we've seen a Gary Rogers Motorsport win.
29:23Could it be today?
29:25Well, yes, and I mean, we've done a lot of hard work in that period,
29:28and really the credit goes to the workforce here because, I mean, the cars are good,
29:32and they don't happen through, you know, it's not good luck that gets them like that.
29:35It's hard work, solid investment, and, you know, the ability to keep going when it's tough.
29:40Gary, your D&M with Alex Prem has done the trick this year.
29:43He's been fantastic.
29:44Does he know he's got a 10-second penalty?
29:46No, he doesn't, but at this stage, we won't.
29:48We'll let the race finish and then have a look at it.
29:50According to what we saw, it won't be right,
29:52but we won't argue the point with him or the stewards at this point,
29:55but if we have to, we will.
29:56No, you will. Hang in there, Gary. All the best.
29:58Thanks very much.
29:59Oh, and he's off straight ahead.
30:00Prem down at turn five.
30:02So we're just talking about him, and he makes a mistake down there.
30:04Now, how does he deal with it?
30:06He's backed off.
30:07They talked about this in the driver's briefing yesterday,
30:10and he tries to swap back in.
30:11If you go back into your original position,
30:13it's deemed to be having made an advantage.
30:17So he's got to find a spot back in the queue
30:19and then get up to racing speed.
30:20I'd say he's done a pretty good job of that.
30:21I think so too, and they wanted to have that done as fast as possible,
30:25meaning they'll redress it straight away, which he did.
30:27I would think from that there'd be no further action.
30:32I was just going to say, you go back to 2010,
30:34the streets of Sydney, Lee Holdsworth had victory there.
30:38He's got a problem.
30:39Prem has got a problem.
30:40He's pulled wide and got right out of it now.
30:42So whatever's going on with that car,
30:44he's right at the back of the field now,
30:46in fact, completely off the road.
30:47So very sad for Alex Prem after a ribbing start.
30:50And you know what you said before about when it rains, it pours.
30:53Mark Winterbottom is under investigation
30:55for wheels spinning in pit lane.
30:59OK, and the brake pedal apparently is on the floor.
31:02Got a massive brake issue.
31:04That was very well done from Prem,
31:06and then he moved right off the line.
31:07I know he drove through the grass,
31:08but he did that to get out of everybody's way.
31:11Very good conscious decision there.
31:13He's done a 63.8 mark Winterbottom,
31:22so it's a new lap record on this new configuration circuit.
31:25He's down in 26th position.
31:27So great frustration.
31:30And now he's in strife again, just as Jamie Wincub.
31:32So it's when you're distracted by these other mind-dominating issues,
31:37all of a sudden other things get away from you,
31:39like pit lane speed limits or the wheel spinning issue.
31:42So let's have a look here and see whether the super slow-mo
31:45reveals any of the story with Alex Premmer.
31:47Great shot of Scotty McLaughlin up on two wheels.
31:51Apprentice fabricator does a huge amount of work in the shop.
31:55Actually helped repair car number 34
31:57after the incident it had at the Australian Grand Prix.
32:01This is the last corner, turn 11.
32:02That's Wincub in the weeds.
32:05And all four over there too.
32:08On board now with Dave Reynolds,
32:09who is in 7th position.
32:13He's had a battle with Coulthard the whole time, Matt.
32:16I just wonder how, having Alex Premmer out of the picture,
32:19how that affects the mindset of Scott McLaughlin.
32:22He used to be able to look into the mirror
32:23and see his teammate behind him.
32:25Now he's got a very competitive and very hard-charging
32:28Jason Bright in his sights, 1.5 seconds behind.
32:32So another victim, Premmer in the garage.
32:35But they're looking on the track
32:37because the sister car of Scotty McLaughlin
32:39leads the way here.
32:42On lap 22 out of 35.
32:43Well, now the nerves will start to come to the fore.
32:52On the track, in pit lane there at GRM.
32:55That's Richard Holway watching on
32:56as his young charge continues to lead this race.
33:00Scott McLaughlin, 1.7 seconds ahead.
33:04And the good thing here, Matt,
33:05is Richard Holway is very, very experienced.
33:08He was the head engineer at HRT for many, many years.
33:10He was heavily involved with Craig Lowndes
33:13as he'd come through as a young guy.
33:15He's already making comparisons
33:17with Scott McLaughlin with Craig Lowndes.
33:19And an old head on young shoulders right now
33:22is what you've got to apply.
33:23Scott McLaughlin, very inexperienced.
33:26Richard just there will be talking to him,
33:28calming him down, making sure it's all fine
33:30because at this point of the race,
33:33Scott McLaughlin has done a tremendous job
33:35and he should win it from here.
33:37And he's building that margin.
33:38It's out now to 1.5 seconds.
33:41And he's just creeping away.
33:43We're not seeing any evidence of the car sliding.
33:45He's not locking brakes.
33:47So he's got the car in a nice stride at the moment.
33:50There's that bump I spoke up.
33:51Gee, the HRT car of James Courtney.
33:53That was a car that went on with it,
33:54on with it, on with it.
33:55The bouncing went for another 50 metres.
33:57The guys, not only do they look at the data
33:59that the car generates,
34:00but they do look at our pictures.
34:03And they'll get some useful information.
34:05Another shot there of Courtney into turn one.
34:07It just doesn't look right.
34:08It's not mapping the road nicely.
34:09I spoke to he and Rob Starr.
34:11He's head engineer.
34:13And James was basically saying exactly what you just did.
34:15It just doesn't settle.
34:16It just continues to do this.
34:19Now, just have a look at this pit stop.
34:20You'll see the wheels spin.
34:22Now, Frank Adamson was right there for it.
34:24The category technical manager was right there for it.
34:26So was Larco.
34:27Just see what transpires out of this,
34:31because clearly that is a breach of the rules
34:33when the wheel spins like that.
34:35Back to this great battle.
34:38In the middle of this top four or five,
34:41Tander, Lowndes, Van Giesburg,
34:42and Coulthard, Reynolds, Davison.
34:44That's the group.
34:46Just in behind was Courtney.
34:48We said he's been complaining about the way it rides this bump.
34:50Watch the cars here.
34:51Yeah, I'll grab Tim Edwards,
34:57principal down here at Ford Performance Racing.
34:59Mate, you saw that vision, I'm just sure, that I did,
35:01of Frosty's wheel just spinning.
35:03Fair call.
35:04No, there's no problem there at all.
35:05It was just when he put it into gear.
35:07So, I mean, there's no issue with that.
35:09I mean, unfortunately, when you put it into gear,
35:10it sort of clungs forward.
35:11It depends if you've got your foot on the brake or not.
35:13But, I mean, you've driven these things.
35:14You know that it moves when you put it into gear.
35:16But it's stopped before.
35:18You know, no issue.
35:20All right, we might have a battle post-race.
35:21Cheers.
35:22I think, to Tim's point there,
35:23the little bit that I saw it,
35:25it didn't do a full rotation.
35:26And there is a provision to allow for that gear engagement.
35:29So, that'll be one they discuss afterwards.
35:31Still 1.4 seconds, the margin, McLaughlin to Bright.
35:35Very different from what we saw with the lounge car
35:38and the spinning wheel, wasn't it?
35:39Very different.
35:40Now, here's an interesting story.
35:41We've got Rick Kelly in 12th of Jack Daniels' Nissan Altima.
35:45His opening account in Adelaide was at position 11
35:48at the beginning of the year.
35:49But he's doing a great job.
35:51And he's got his teammate, Michael Caruso,
35:52in the Norton entry right behind him.
35:54He's got a great record here.
35:55He was the winner in 2007, Rick Kelly.
35:5813 top 10 finishes in 18 races.
36:01So, it's a place that he's immediately clicked with.
36:04Even back in the Kmart era, he was very fast here.
36:07Remember, he's got Eric Pender back in his garage as well.
36:10And I was talking to Eric about the Greg Murphy days.
36:14And he said, you've just got to tell these drivers what Murph said.
36:17Forget about the bumps.
36:18Act as though they're not there.
36:21So, he's got a lot of history and a lot of successful history here.
36:23You mentioned he won in 2007.
36:25So, Rick's the last winner at this circuit in a V8 supercar
36:29because he won race three that weekend.
36:31Doesn't the car look good in terms of the way it rides the bumps
36:34and gets the car to the far sections of the road especially.
36:37Neil and I commented on the first day of practice
36:40that that was the best car through turn one.
36:42It was very, very settled.
36:44And mid-corner speed was probably the highest of the field.
36:48Tough day for Alex Premier.
36:49He's back in the garage at the moment.
36:51His problem is the throttle's been jamming open at 100%.
36:53Just never a good situation to have.
36:55The crew are working inside the footwell at the moment
36:58to see if they can find the problem
36:59and get it right for the next race.
37:01Of course, they want to get back out there
37:02and they want to try and salvage some points from this race first.
37:05I don't think I'd like to have a throttle full stack at...
37:09Not here. Not here.
37:10Not anywhere.
37:11Yeah, but especially here.
37:14So, Scotty McLaughlin.
37:16Eight laps to go now.
37:17He's lost some margin. Half a second.
37:19So, Bright's exactly one second behind him now
37:22as they enter the back straight.
37:24And if anything, Bright's just skipping away slightly from Garth Tander.
37:28So, McLaughlin will have to be a little careful here.
37:32Oh, that's right.
37:33Takes real resilience now.
37:37You see the other guy just coming up on you a little bit.
37:39You've got to make sure you don't take too big a risk.
37:41Oh, a little brake lock up for the court though.
37:43Just made it.
37:44That's Tander off the road.
37:46So, that's the little mistake you can make.
37:48And the bubble burst for Garth Tander
37:50in that fight that he's been having
37:51all the way through this race
37:53with Craig Lowndes.
37:55Reynolds goes straight through
37:56and waits to readdress his position.
38:01This is going to be wild.
38:02This will be wild with Tander.
38:04Only back down of it.
38:06Tander and Davison, former teammates.
38:08So, all of a sudden, a bit of a moment
38:10at the end of the back straight
38:10for both Garth Tander
38:12and also for David Reynolds.
38:14Just scattered the pack.
38:15Rearranged the order.
38:17Check the gap.
38:18One second.
38:18McLaughlin to Bright.
38:19Then Lowndes, Van Gisbergen, Coulthard, Tander, Davison.
38:23That's Will.
38:24Then Reynolds, Courtney and Webb.
38:26That's the ten.
38:28This is the battle for third and fourth.
38:31Two totally different lines there.
38:32You can see Lowndes and Van Gisbergen
38:34coming out onto the straight
38:36between turn three and turn four.
38:39Lowndes turns it early
38:40like he normally does.
38:42Van Gisbergen holds the car wider
38:44and turns back down on the apex later.
38:47So, a couple of different techniques.
38:48Very similar in terms of lap speed.
38:51This is this new section.
38:53Turns five, six and seven.
38:55The king now before.
38:57And this is the previous lap.
38:59A little mistake there from Coulthard.
39:01And that was already off the road.
39:03Tander.
39:03And David Reynolds actually just
39:05basically shadowed Fabian in there.
39:07And because he braked where Fabian braked,
39:09he couldn't stop.
39:10So, Fabian was in trouble.
39:12So, really, probably a brake light cue
39:14that he took.
39:15Here it is.
39:15I'll show you now.
39:17Out with Will Davison.
39:19And straight off the road.
39:21Through he goes.
39:23And you just get caught, don't you?
39:26There's a lot of trust
39:27in the competitor in front of you.
39:29If they're in strife,
39:30you're in strife.
39:31And this is this line difference.
39:32See how narrow Lowndes is
39:34and he turns early.
39:35There's probably almost a full car width
39:37difference at that spot.
39:39We'll recall earlier in the day
39:40in qualifying
39:41when we saw about five cars
39:42all wander into the dirt
39:43at the top of the hill.
39:44That's exactly that syndrome.
39:45You're under the rear wing
39:46of the preceding car.
39:47You drive to that rhythm.
39:48Oh, Van Gisbergen
39:49looks up the inside.
39:50That was a big attempt.
39:52You can see how
39:53grip limited the car
39:55was under brakes.
39:57Craig left a little gap
39:58and Shane
39:59tried the exploratory
40:01down the inside
40:01and Bright is definitely
40:03coming to terms
40:03with that gap now.
40:04It's three quarters of a second.
40:07Well, he's found another
40:07two tenths of a second
40:08in the back half
40:10of this lap alone.
40:11Jason Bright.
40:13So he's picking away.
40:15Bright, he's had success
40:16at this place.
40:17He won two races here
40:18back in 2004.
40:20And what about if Van Gisbergen
40:21can get past Lowndes
40:23and have two Kiwis
40:24on the podium?
40:25Jordan O'Reilly's
40:26will go berserk.
40:28It's not done with
40:29here at the front.
40:29It's not done with anywhere,
40:30especially around Pukakoe.
40:33So five laps to go.
40:35The gap, 0.7 of a second.
40:37You've got this 19-year-old
40:39with eight races under his belt.
40:42Taking on the hottest guy
40:44in the field
40:44out of the hottest team
40:46so far this year
40:47with more than 400 races
40:49to his breath.
40:51We've got some issues
40:51with tyres on Will Davison's car.
40:53Apparently in the background
40:54on the radio,
40:55we've picked up
40:56that there could be
40:57a tyre issue for Wheel
40:58on the Pepsi Max entry.
41:01McLaughlin's just hit back there
41:02to his...
41:03He's grabbed another tenth back
41:04off Jason Bright at the front,
41:06but really there's nothing in it.
41:07That's under a second
41:08between first and second.
41:10What Scott's got to do now
41:12is don't take risks
41:13in the spots
41:14that you can go off the road.
41:15Only drive the car
41:17to its limit
41:18at the areas
41:19where there's a little bit
41:20of room for error.
41:20So just here,
41:22make sure you make the apex.
41:23Make sure you don't get
41:24the car out into the dirt.
41:25Down into turn one.
41:26Break it a little bit early.
41:27Get it turned in.
41:29Limit the risk
41:30at this time of the race.
41:31Just since turn eight,
41:32since the hairpin,
41:33he actually opened the gap again.
41:34So I suspect that Jason's
41:36made a little mistake
41:36at the hairpin
41:37because that got down
41:38to 0.7
41:39and they only did
41:40a couple of corners
41:40and it was back out
41:41to a second.
41:42So, and with only four to go,
41:44that tiny little bit
41:45of relief when you're
41:46the lead driver,
41:47you look in the mirror
41:47and you see,
41:48ah, ah, that gap's open
41:49and allows you to get
41:50back to the focus
41:51of driving to the rhythm
41:52of your car
41:53and getting back in stride
41:54and not being unnerved
41:55by the BFC logo.
41:57Getting bigger is here.
41:59Turn four, James Muffin.
42:05Might have been a bit more
42:06to that.
42:08It's not the easiest place
42:10to approach.
42:12That's the gap
42:13from first to second.
42:14Young Scott McLaughlin.
42:16It's great when this series
42:17works in terms of the DBS.
42:18He won the development series
42:20last year.
42:20The progression is perfect.
42:22His level of experience
42:24in the main game,
42:26obviously very new to it,
42:27but this is very important
42:29for him today.
42:30This level of performance
42:31is career-changing stuff.
42:34And this will be
42:35an extra race added
42:39to the matrix of the year
42:40so that in total terms,
42:43more podiums being shared.
42:45Remember that little stat
42:45that I rolled out before?
42:47So it'll be now six teams
42:48if GRM stay up there
42:50to burn the podium this year.
42:52And another name as a driver.
42:54We had nine different drivers
42:55in taking podium positions
42:57to this point
42:57coming into the weekend.
42:59Potentially going to,
43:00because he's going to be
43:00first, second or third one
43:01would think,
43:02we're going to see
43:03a tenth name added.
43:04So that's a,
43:04for me that's a great stat
43:05to see all these different teams
43:07share in the success
43:08with the new car.
43:09So he came in through
43:11the development series
43:12as a 16-year-old.
43:14As Mark Scaife mentioned,
43:15he won the series last year.
43:18Also won the New Zealand Super Tour.
43:20So whilst he's a young man
43:23and in his rookie year
43:26in the main game,
43:27he knows how to win.
43:28He knows how to find
43:30the chequered flag.
43:32And he'll be taking
43:33that same approach
43:34to this,
43:37which is the biggest race
43:38of his life at the moment
43:40to this moment
43:41as he would have
43:42throughout those
43:43developing stages
43:44of this career.
43:45There's no doubt
43:45we knew it anyway.
43:47He doesn't need
43:48to win today
43:48to remind us
43:49that we're seeing
43:50a superstar in the making.
43:51But isn't it amazing
43:54how sometimes
43:55the planets do align
43:56in this crazy game
43:58when you can notch up
44:00a victory in front of
44:01a crowd like Pukakoe
44:03on a day where we return
44:05after six years.
44:06It's not done with yet.
44:07He needs to hold on.
44:10Down through turn five.
44:12He skated all the way
44:13into five then
44:14on the rear brake
44:15MotoGP style.
44:16He got it pulled up.
44:17I wasn't sure
44:17whether he could actually
44:18turn it.
44:20Exactly one second.
44:21The last time
44:22they crossed
44:23one of the timing loops.
44:25And if he can hold on
44:26he will become
44:27the youngest ever winner
44:28of a V8 supercar race
44:29in the Australian
44:30Touring Car Championship.
44:32That honour currently
44:33belongs to Todd Kelly
44:34who was 20 years old
44:36when he won in Canberra.
44:37This kid's only 19
44:38and 10 months.
44:40And Scotty McLaughlin.
44:43Wow.
44:45As Pukakoe applauded
44:462.9 kilometres
44:49within 60 seconds
44:51as he can wrap up
44:52his first ever
44:53championship V8
44:54supercar victory.
44:55What a great moment
44:56for the sport
44:57and for Australasian
44:58motorsport.
44:59This is reminiscent
45:00of what Greg Murphy
45:01achieved at this location.
45:03Half a lap remaining
45:04for Scott McLaughlin.
45:05The crowd is going
45:06berserk.
45:07Be calm.
45:08Do not do what you did
45:09last lap.
45:10This is critical.
45:11250 Ks
45:12on approach
45:13down to turn five.
45:14He does not want
45:16the experienced
45:17campaigner of Jason Bright
45:19to get a sniff.
45:20Only a handful
45:21of corners left
45:21to go.
45:23This youngster
45:24is being compared
45:25already to the
45:26great Craig Lowndes.
45:27Well, if he can live
45:31up to that
45:31it'll be some
45:32kind of career
45:33and as he closes
45:34out this one
45:35the Kiwis
45:37will erupt.
45:40Look out.
45:42There's a new kid
45:43in town
45:44in the V8
45:44supercars.
45:45His name is
45:46Scott McLaughlin.
45:47He's on the
45:47champions list.
45:50Well done.
45:51That is an
45:51extraordinary drive.
45:53Great job
45:55Scott McLaughlin.
46:00Wow.
46:03Richard Holloway
46:04well done mate.
46:05Great job.
46:06Jason Bright
46:06second and
46:07Craig Lowndes
46:08third.
46:10Thank you so
46:11much.
46:13Oh my god.
46:15At 19 years of
46:17age and 10
46:17months and 3
46:18days in fact
46:19he becomes the
46:20youngest ever
46:21winner of the
46:22V8 supercars
46:23Australian Touring
46:24Car Championship
46:24race.
46:26All three
46:27Holdens make
46:28up the podium.
46:30Tim Blanchard
46:31there in 15th.
46:32Tony Dalberto
46:32behind him.
46:33Mark Winterbottom
46:34from the front row
46:35of the grid to
46:3619th.
46:36At one stage he
46:37led the race.
46:38Jamie Winkup
46:39starts on pole
46:39position.
46:42And was back
46:43in the pit lane
46:44within a lap.
46:50So the
46:51motorsport gods
46:52shining on this
46:53young man and
46:54New Zealand
46:55motorsport right
46:55now.
46:56We got so used
46:57to the Cinderella
46:58stories coming
46:59out of the
46:59Greg Murphy
47:00Pukakoe days.
47:02Perhaps this is a
47:03new era that
47:05will unfold at
47:06this track.
47:07It's one of these
47:17unique venues where
47:18you can hear the
47:19crowd roar
47:20over that
47:22unbelievable and
47:23unmistakable sound
47:24of a V8 supercar,
47:25let alone 27 of
47:26them flying around
47:28here.
47:29And that is
47:30something to
47:30savour.
47:31make no mistake
47:37folks, this is
47:38not a one-off.
47:40This is the
47:41start of a very
47:43big career.
47:45He's got a cool
47:46head on his
47:46shoulders.
47:49We've been
47:49treating him like
47:50a rock star.
47:52And he knows
47:53how to deliver in
47:54front of the home
47:55crowd.
47:55Gary Rogers
48:08Motorsport.
48:09Playing their
48:10first victory in
48:11three years.
48:18Guys,
48:18amazingly, the
48:19crowd's just
48:20cheering on you,
48:21Scotty.
48:21It is quite an
48:22incredible moment
48:23for Scott McLaughlin.
48:24Scott, amazing.
48:25We spoke before
48:26the race, you
48:26had high hopes,
48:27but that is just
48:28incredible.
48:29Congratulations on
48:30your first V8
48:30supercar victory.
48:33Holy cow.
48:36Thanks to
48:37everyone here.
48:38My mum and
48:38dad, they were
48:39the ones that got
48:39me here, my
48:40sister.
48:40I can't thank
48:41them enough.
48:42I knew I was
48:43being emotional
48:44in the car, that
48:44was pretty cool,
48:45man.
48:46It's hard to
48:46concentrate when
48:47you're all
48:47clapping, but
48:48thank you very
48:48much.
48:49And, mate, I
48:54dreamt about
48:54this.
48:58Congratulations.
48:59You are now
48:59officially the
49:00youngest V8
49:01supercar winner
49:02in the history
49:03of the sport.
49:03Yeah.
49:07That's awesome.
49:08Thank you very
49:08much.
49:09Enjoy that
49:09podium, mate.
49:10Make the most
49:11of it.
49:11Well done,
49:11Scott McLaughlin.
49:12Over to
49:13Jason Bright.
49:13Brightie, you
49:14raced him all the
49:15way, almost got
49:16there.
49:16It was on.
49:18Awesome, awesome
49:18for Scottie.
49:19He's certainly
49:21shown he's got
49:22the goods this
49:22year and he
49:23drove really
49:24well then.
49:25We were a
49:27little bit
49:27lucky we
49:27didn't make
49:28the best
49:28start.
49:29There's a
49:29couple of
49:29guys that
49:30had problems,
49:30but good for
49:30the championship.
49:31The car's
49:31obviously got
49:32some pace.
49:33It looked
49:33after his
49:33tyres pretty
49:34well and we
49:34started to
49:35pull Scottie
49:35in there.
49:36It was a
49:37little bit
49:37different track
49:37to what we
49:38had yesterday.
49:39I've got
49:39some thinking
49:40to do before
49:40the next
49:40one.
49:41Another
49:41solid result,
49:42Brightie.
49:42Congratulations.
49:43Cheers, mate.
49:43And Craig
49:44Lowndes, once
49:45again, boy.
49:46Lowndes, you're
49:46right up there.
49:47It looked a
49:47little bit bumpy
49:48during qualifying
49:49earlier today, but
49:50you got the job
49:50done when it
49:51counted.
49:51Congratulations.
49:52Yeah, thanks.
49:52Look, it's been a
49:53pretty tough day,
49:54I suppose, to
49:54qualify where we
49:55did.
49:56Got into the
49:56top ten shootout,
49:57then of course
49:57made a mistake
49:58down into turn
49:58five, which of
49:59course that
49:59doesn't help
50:00anything.
50:01Miraculously, I
50:01picked up two
50:02spots before we
50:03haven't started.
50:03So, look, it's
50:05great, obviously, to
50:05all the guys in
50:06the team and the
50:07Red Bull guys have
50:07just done a
50:08fantastic job.
50:09To Levi and
50:13it's a huge effort
50:14to make the
50:14podium the way
50:15you did.
50:16Congratulations,
50:16Lowndes, you
50:16enjoy it.
50:17Cheers, thanks,
50:17I will.
50:19Dutto, sorry to
50:20interrupt, mate.
50:21No, you're
50:21all right, you
50:21stay.
50:22Hey, Jamie, a
50:23lot of interest
50:23in what happened
50:24with your tyre.
50:24I'm sure you're
50:25aware by now,
50:25Mark Winterbottom
50:26had a similar
50:27drama.
50:27What do you
50:28think, curb or
50:28what's your
50:29thought?
50:30I've got no
50:31idea.
50:31I got a good
50:32start and then
50:33I used some
50:34curb at four,
50:35which popped it
50:35off the bead,
50:37but no more
50:38than I've...
50:39There it is,
50:39no more than
50:40I usually use.
50:42So, yeah,
50:43I'm not sure.
50:44Hey, you know,
50:44we run the
50:45pressures a bit
50:45lower for the
50:46race, you know,
50:46to do the
50:47latch, but
50:48certainly not
50:48under-pressured.
50:49We're certainly
50:49within Dunlop's
50:50recommendations.
50:51So, yeah,
50:52interesting one.
50:53She's a good
50:54old rugged track
50:55and I think we
50:56may need to pump
50:56the tyres up a
50:57bit so they
50:58last, you know.
50:59Yeah, good
50:59point.
51:00Just going back
51:00to that start,
51:01mate, Scaifey
51:02was rambling
51:02about it,
51:03understandably so.
51:04Between you and
51:05Winterbottom,
51:05they were two of
51:06the best starts
51:06you'll ever see.
51:07When you go and
51:07look at them,
51:08outstanding.
51:09You've really
51:09got your act
51:09together there
51:10now.
51:10Thank you, yeah.
51:11I got a goodie
51:12and Mark always
51:13gets a good start
51:13as well.
51:14So, yeah,
51:15dog eat dog
51:16down at a turn
51:16one.
51:17But now,
51:18lucky it's not
51:19you start where
51:20you finish.
51:20Lucky we've got
51:21a second quali.
51:22So, get a start
51:23at the front,
51:23hopefully get some
51:23points today.
51:24I mean, it is a
51:25great format, mate.
51:25There's three more
51:26races we're going
51:26to see you in
51:27this weekend.
51:28Give us your
51:28heads up on the
51:29track, mate.
51:29It's kept as
51:30character, we're all
51:31saying that.
51:32Lots of new
51:32stuff, looks great.
51:33Everyone's here.
51:34You're enjoying
51:35the ride?
51:35Yeah, absolutely.
51:36No, the track's
51:37great.
51:37You know, I'm not
51:38going to say that
51:40we should straighten
51:41it out or fix
51:42anything.
51:43It's all part of
51:43it and it's all
51:44part of the
51:44challenge.
51:45So, gobbled me
51:46up today.
51:46We need to work
51:47a bit harder.
51:48All right, thanks,
51:48Jamie.
51:49Cheers, buddy.
51:49Cheers.
51:50He still leads
51:51the championship,
51:52however, but only
51:53by 28 points now
51:54over his good mate
51:55Will Davison.
51:55Craig Lowndes has
51:56bounced back up to
51:57third and look at
51:58Scott McLaughlin now
51:59fourth in the title
52:00race after six races.
52:02And as Jamie Winkup
52:03mentioned,
52:04qualifying is
52:04already done for
52:05race seven with
52:06Fabian Coulthart to
52:07start from pole
52:08position.
52:09But all that's still
52:10ahead of us later
52:11on this afternoon.
52:12Let's get to the
52:12podium.
52:12This will be a
52:13super popular one.
52:14I reckon you
52:15might be right, Matt.

53:38the championship.
53:43What a way to
53:44celebrate a return to
