00:00The Clipsal 500 in Adelaide was the beginning of a new era in V8 supercars.
00:09It is a great unknown. The track's the same, all the bumps are still there, but all of the cars have changed.
00:17We've waited so long for the car of the future. Well the future is here.
00:23Now with four manufacturers lining up on the grid, the toughest touring car category in the world just got tougher.
00:30And Shane Van Gisbergen can't get off the grid. His feet are just burning.
00:35Oh here we are, he's got him, he's got him. Alex went way too deep into the left hand wall and then slammed.
00:41The battle for points is now tighter than ever.
00:44Oh Wing Cup has a big mistake, the team mates actually bumped, Rick Kelly gets run around, severe damage to the other Jack Daniels.
00:52The expectation to succeed is now greater than ever.
00:56The greatest ever winning margin in a race at the Clipsal 500.
01:00Craig Lowndes drives into the history books.
01:03And that makes that winning feeling so much sweeter than ever before.
01:08Sunday is payday. The Holden VF Commodore and Techno Autosports get their first win.
01:15Great job, great job.
01:17The Gears is the Clipsal champion of 2013.
01:20This weekend we're at Simmons Plains for the Tasmania Microsoft Office 365.
01:26Where the brand new super sprint format sets up the next challenge in the 2013 championship.
01:31Oh this is so dangerous.
01:32That is wild.
01:33Well here we go, there's some bumping on the main straight.
01:37Oh, that's 260 kilometres an hour.
01:40And that's a big moment for Tim Slade.
01:43That's going to end in tears.
01:44It's going to end in tears.
01:45That's what it is.
01:46You can't do that in the braking area.
01:48There's only one place to see your V8 supercar racing live and free.
01:53And that's right here on 7.
01:55It's such a big Saturday of sport here on 7 and it's time for the second championship event of the V8 supercar season.
02:12Today, race three, the brand new 60-60 super sprint format.
02:16120 k's of racing split into two with a half-time break.
02:21We're at Simmons Plains Raceway just outside of Launceston.
02:24The 41st year this track has hosted the championship.
02:27And that is exactly how the championship stacks up after two races.
02:31One event at Clipsall Craig Lowndes.
02:33A victory and a third puts him on top with 2.79.
02:36Jamie Winkup was on the podium both days.
02:39He will always feature up the top.
02:41Will Davison, the only Ford Flyer inside the top ten.
02:45As we gear up for qualifying, let's zero in on where we are alongside me.
02:49Neil Crompton and Mark Scape.
02:51I'm Matt White.
02:52Crompo, take us through this one.
02:53Afternoon, Matt.
02:54Great little racetrack this one.
02:55A whisker over 2.4 km.
02:57It's seven turns.
02:58A lot of high throttle percentage used here.
03:01So 60-odd percent of the lap at 100% throttle.
03:04It's got an average speed of just under 170 km an hour.
03:08Makes it the third fastest on our 14 event tour.
03:11And there are the three sectors that we'll make reference to.
03:13The first one, the first critical time we'll look at is on the approach to the hairpin.
03:17And the second critical time will be on the approach up to turn six.
03:21It's a great racetrack.
03:22It always turns on a big show.
03:24Mark Scape afternoon and this is going to be a critical session for these guys because the big story here will be to get a clear run, get out there, find 100 metres of clear track and try and get a time.
03:39Because we saw from practice four earlier today, Scafie, tiny margins as there always is between everybody.
03:45Yesterday, the top 19 cars, 0.5 of a second.
03:48That was incredible, wasn't it?
03:50And this qualifying session, we always say 20 minutes of throwing tyres at cars.
03:56I love this.
03:57Getting a run will be very difficult.
03:59And also, the tiniest, the smallest mistake will make 10 grid position difference from a good lap to an ordinary lap.
04:07So, a lot of pressure on these drivers to do the very best lap they can do.
04:13Qualifying record here, 51.04 set by Craig Lowndes last year.
04:19Going close to that throughout the practice sessions that we had.
04:22The leading time, 51.07 set by Garth Tander.
04:25So, the times are certainly there.
04:27The conditions are definitely there.
04:29It's perfect.
04:30It certainly is.
04:31And the wind direction here always plays a part in the braking area distance into the hairpin, which is turn four, right in front of you, right there.
04:39And on the other end of the track, at the end of the main straight, which, as Mark Larkin has already explained, it's not really a straight.
04:47It's got a kink in at 260 kilometres an hour.
04:49The cars make 270km there.
04:51The braking area there is critical, Bill.
04:53And that wind direction, light and variable at the moment.
04:56But if anything, it's tending slightly towards the south, which gives them something of a headwind as they head towards that hairpin down there.
05:04And a tailwind when they get to the braking area up here.
05:07But it's pretty light at the moment. It's not going to have a huge influence.
05:10And what they all found is they, in the practice four rehearsal of qualifying, they battled to get the front tyre temperature up.
05:18So, they do more laps on the tyre than they actually would like to.
05:21Craig Lounge yesterday, when he was fastest, he actually, it took three fast laps.
05:27It was his fourth lap when he did his best lap time.
05:30So, the tyre that we're using this weekend is the soft compound tyre.
05:34But this is not a very hard place on tyres.
05:37And therefore, difficult to get the front tyres in sync with the rear to get the best lap time.
05:43Great shot on the exit of the hairpin from the kerb cam.
05:47And the unofficial rule here is that when your headlights are on, you're on the queue lap.
05:51So, it's a signal to those in front that you need to be given space.
05:55There was a lot of discussion about this in the drivers briefing last night about what you should do if you're not on a hot lap.
06:00And how you should respect the other competitors.
06:03It's always something that gets debated at these shorter racetracks because the lap length just over 2,400 metres, as I said before.
06:12And the lap speed about 51 seconds.
06:14So, it's not hard to work out when you've got 28 cars out there.
06:16It's pretty hard to find some elbow room.
06:19Roland Dane just passing on some information to Adrian Burgess as they look on over Lowndes.
06:24Lowndes, who's had so much success here over so many years.
06:27Six race wins.
06:28He won all three in his first crack at this circuit back in 1996.
06:33Garth Tander also.
06:35Seven race wins.
06:36Four pole positions.
06:37And finished up the fastest span of all the combined practice sessions.
06:41And he looks like he's going to do it again.
06:43So, a 51.6 is his opening account.
06:45Quite a little bit of brake locking on the run into turn two for him there.
06:49Which means that as the car unweights, as he rolls it through the corner and the weight shift, the unloaded side of the car is prone to skidding the tyre, locking the brake.
06:58And look at Lowndes on the gear change.
07:00Third to fourth through turn six.
07:02Big slide.
07:03And now he's to the top on a 51.2.
07:05That's quicker than Lowndes did throughout the combined practice sessions.
07:08He could only manage at 51.37.
07:10He was 11th on the list after all of our four practice sessions.
07:14So, the times have come quickly to Red Bull Racing Australia.
07:17And if you're hardcore and you've been looking at those times yesterday and today, you need to also take into account that not everybody uses new tyres.
07:26So, I know that in practice four this morning, some did and some didn't.
07:30So, you get a slightly skewed view of the reality of their lap speed.
07:34But here in qualifying, they're all on brand spanking new tyres.
07:37They get 24 of them over the course of the weekend.
07:40Now, this is what we talked about at the drivers briefing last night.
07:43So, one of the Fujitsu cars, car number 34, just easing off to the left of the road.
07:48That was Alex Premmer allowing the race line for Jamie Winkum.
07:52And we think that that's the way to do it.
07:54One of the things that happens here in the previous iteration of our cars, the cars we've used over the last 20 years.
08:00If you've got a little qualifying drum and not enough grip at one end of the car, the roll centre change is very fast.
08:06But here, great vision here, our slow-mo into turn two.
08:10This is Jonathan Webbs, he just going to bump the tyre bundle.
08:14And he's been crossed up in the process too.
08:16Just sideways at the same time.
08:17But the roll centre change was very fast, Neil.
08:19Now, the rear sway bar is probably the thing that will make the difference.
08:23Plus tyre pressure, plus driving around the issue.
08:26It's going to be more driver dependent this year than it has been.
08:30Yeah, gritting your teeth and getting on with a bit of that driver stuff is probably what some are going to have to do
08:34to live with problems in qualifying.
08:36So it's a 51-1 for Jamie Winkum.
08:39A 1-2 for his teammate Lowndes.
08:41Will Davison on screen at the moment.
08:43Position three on a 1-4.
08:45And we say it every year we come here.
08:47It's the 41st time, as Matty pointed out earlier, that we've been to Simmons Place.
08:52There's a lot of data for this racetrack.
08:54But this ends up being one of the tightest qualifying sessions at Van Gisburg.
08:57It's gone straight ahead of the hairpin turn four.
08:59He'll get out of it in reverse, but only just.
09:02He's outbraked himself down there.
09:04Is it beached?
09:06Oh, gee.
09:07He only just got away with that one.
09:09So we've got these tiny fractions separating the top ten cars at the moment.
09:13Winkup, Lowndes, Davison, Van Gisburg and fourth and on screen.
09:16Then Tander, McLaughlin, Bright, Winterbottom, Pye, Reynolds.
09:20That's your ten.
09:21And here is Scotty McLaughlin.
09:24Off a great weekend at Albert Park throughout the Grand Prix weekend.
09:30Racked up his first ever V8 supercar victory.
09:33It's not a championship win, but it's a win.
09:36Very popular.
09:37Has he just, I was just about to say, hasn't he just fitted in so well in his lane, but
09:41also out there in racing environment as well.
09:44This is what happens to Shane Van Gisburgens, dead ahead at turn four.
09:48And that sound you can hear in the background is Shane modulating the brake pedal.
09:52No ABS or anti-lock braking systems in a V8 supercar.
09:55It's all about driver control.
09:57So he was applying and releasing, applying and releasing that brake pedal.
10:01Trying to find a way of stopping without damaging the tyre.
10:04And clearly he ran out of road down there.
10:07You're riding with James Courtney who's trying to break into the top ten
10:11as they try and determine pole position for the third race of the season.
10:18We're back at Simmons Plains, Tasmania Microsoft Office 365 qualifying here.
10:28It's a flat 20 minute session.
10:30We're about halfway through it.
10:32This is one of the form guys early on in season 2013.
10:36Fabian Coulthard got a real pep in his step.
10:39We spoke on the other side of the break about Scott McLachlan
10:42breaking through for his first win in V8 supercars at Albert Park.
10:45Well, Fabian did the same on that weekend.
10:48And he comes back to a circuit where he has next to his name his best ever championship finish third back in 2009.
10:55So he'll be really confident this weekend.
10:58And at the Grand Prix, both those cars from Brad Jones Racing,
11:01the Team BOC entry of Jason Bright and the Lockwood entry of Fabian Coulthard ended up with a 1-2.
11:07And we've now seen three different styles and types of circuits, Scafie.
11:11Where we've been to Clipsal, very different track to the AGP, very different track to Simmons.
11:16And they appear to have speed in all those places.
11:18And you kind of, for an engineer or a driver, there's a sigh of relief in that.
11:21Because you worry about, if you have a good result sometimes,
11:24it's are we kidding ourselves or were we genuinely quick?
11:27Were we just lucky as Slade falls off the road at the end of the back straight there?
11:31So it's good when you get a number together at a variety of different tracks.
11:36And remember at the Fan Free Day, our Eastern Creek Test Day, they were fastest there also.
11:41So they've been a lot of different styles of circuits.
11:43And they're certainly right up there, just like Gary Rogers Motorsport.
11:46Remember, young Scott McLaughlin hasn't ever raced at this place.
11:51So, very good job.
11:53Now, oh, gee, he fed the gear early, couldn't stop.
11:56That's Holdsworth.
11:57He had to get back to third gear early
11:59because he was definitely going to go off the road.
12:01We saw his teammate off the road a second ago.
12:03Holdsworth was seventh in the rehearsal.
12:07Practiced four for qualifying.
12:08It was a very, very good job.
12:10At the moment, he's 14th on a 51.6.
12:13And the target time is a 51.18.
12:15So he's about half a second away from the money.
12:18Here's Davey Reynolds trying to post a good number that should take him in.
12:22It does to the top three, in fact.
12:24So it's Winkup, Lowndes, Reynolds.
12:26Then Coulthard, Will Davison, Garth Tander, Van Gisbergen, Russell Ingalls in pit lane.
12:32Scotty McLaughlin and Jason Bright round up our top ten with under ten minutes to go.
12:39So you just see Lowndes there ranging up behind Garth Tander.
12:48Tander just hit a 51.52.
12:51Lowndes at 51.55.
12:53HRT look like they're quite strong this weekend.
12:56They've always had good form here.
12:57Will Davison now on a very, very good lap.
13:00This might bring him to the top.
13:02And Davison.
13:04That was Frosty first.
13:05So he went into third.
13:06And there's Will.
13:07Crosses the line.
13:08He goes into second.
13:09Good job.
13:10Two hundredths off.
13:14Here's Lowndes.
13:15He's been bumped to third.
13:16So it's Winkup, Davison, Lowndes.
13:18Championship leader.
13:190.02 of a second is the gap between Winkup and Davison at the moment.
13:29Lowndes, two green boxes.
13:30What's the third sector like for him?
13:32No.
13:33Not good enough.
13:34So he was eight hundredths of a second slower.
13:38Young Scott McLaughlin now up into fourth.
13:41Very good job.
13:4251.32.
13:45Winterbottom will go on with it.
13:46You remember that he had pole position on the corresponding day.
13:48Last year.
13:49In fact, Ford Performance Racing locked out the front row on the Saturday.
13:53Winterbottom fourth.
13:57What you find sometimes here is that you get a good first and second sector run.
14:01But the last complex of corners is quite tricky to negotiate.
14:05And if you end up with the car sliding too much in the rear, too much,
14:08what we describe as oversteer, the driver's got to catch it in the steering,
14:12but also perhaps just feather the throttle ever so gently.
14:15Otherwise, you end up out in the grass.
14:17And we saw that in the highlights earlier on today.
14:19So that can really hurt that last sector split.
14:22And you get all excited about the indication from the first two sectors,
14:26and then you burn it away in the final.
14:30He looked very good in that last sector that you just spoke of.
14:33And this is the pit that we're talking about.
14:35This is the corner at the end of the back straights.
14:37Very fast.
14:38160K as they approach this final turn six and seven.
14:43And Winterbottom just snuck it out.
14:4651-28.
14:47Very good job, but still in fourth position.
14:50Let's go for every driver's frustration.
14:52James Courtney just sitting in the car at the moment as they work on a misfire
14:56here on the number 22 Commodore.
14:58They're just playing with some leads at the moment,
15:00just trying to find a faulty lead and hopefully get JC out there shortly.
15:03But his time is ticking by.
15:05He's down in 24th position.
15:08James Courtney trying to find a way back out there.
15:12Jamie Winkup continues to set the pace.
15:14Will Davison continues his great form at this circuit.
15:17Had a wonderful run here last year.
15:19Can he repeat it this time around?
15:21We'll find out soon.
15:22We'll have pole.
15:29Welcome back. Crunch time now in this qualifying session.
15:31Ahead of race three later on this afternoon.
15:34The 6060 Super Sprint format is still ahead of us here at the Tasmania Microsoft Office 365.
15:41We're taking a look at James Moffat.
15:43Hasn't been much activity throughout the break.
15:45In fact, hardly any.
15:46Most of the field has been in pit lane.
15:49Count down the clock and get ready for a good couple of cracks at the death.
15:55So Winkup leads the way.
15:57He's now headed back out onto the circuit.
15:59Will Davison is second.
16:02Craig Lowndes third.
16:03Moffats.
16:04Oh, he was heading straight towards the grass there.
16:07He did a good job to get it all back together.
16:09It will cost him dearly time-wise.
16:11And here's Todd Kelly.
16:13Jack Daniels Nissan.
16:16He's in 20th.
16:17And can't move it.
16:18Oh.
16:19Morrow Engel arrives on cue.
16:21And Scope, you were talking earlier about how important it is now from the driver perspective.
16:31Jamie Winkup.
16:32I can tell you, he sat there in his car for no less than six minutes on his own.
16:36No one talking to him with a tablet in his hand studying his driving.
16:40Throttle position, brake position.
16:42The other interesting note, mate, we talked about earlier.
16:44Both the Erebus, Mercedes-Benz cars, AMG cars that pulled in here, the idle one, we usually
16:49run them about 1,600.
16:51I reckon they're up around 2,500.
16:53Very, very high idle.
16:54Maybe problematic.
16:55I don't know.
16:56Yeah, a lot of the idle, like for the engine drivability, they've had to lift the idle.
17:01And they're running those cars at about 3,000 rams at the idle.
17:05So that actually hurts them at the hairpin, at the really slow corners.
17:09And you've got some engine torque, some power delivery that makes the car run on.
17:14So it increases or makes the understeer worse at a slow corner like that.
17:19It's only a 50k corner.
17:20You don't need to have engine power when you want to basically retard the car and get it turned.
17:25Incidentally, we spoke earlier about Murrow Engel.
17:28Yesterday, he impeded another car in practice.
17:31And for the grid line-up this afternoon for race three, he'll be pinned five positions.
17:36It was just up here on the exit of the hairpin.
17:39So we're riding here with James Courtney.
17:41Sounds to me like they've got all eight firing nicely again.
17:44This gives you a great driver's eye view of precisely what this racetrack looks like.
17:49He was quite quick in practice four this morning, James.
17:51He was the six fastest, 51.2.
17:53But it always does your head in when you get off to a bad start in qualifying and have to catch up with everybody.
17:59Get the new track read.
18:01He had a massive brake lockup at that spot there in practice four.
18:05You just see the oversteer there that all the drivers are struggling with as this fast open exit of the final corner.
18:12And James Courtney now up into 15th.
18:14He was way down in 24th when we saw him up.
18:18Bruno reported the engine misfire.
18:20So he's come up to 15th with a 51.59.
18:24He'd be looking to improve that on this lap now.
18:26This is Tony D'Alberto.
18:28He also had a bit of a misfire with that car yesterday which turned out to be a plug lead issue.
18:34Joe Sasso from the formerly of the Holman Racing Team is engineering that car.
18:38Looking after a lot of oversteer.
18:39You can see the back of the car sliding pretty violently on the gear change.
18:42Third to fourth through the final corner.
18:44It's a good job then Alex Davison up into seventh.
18:46Very good job.
18:47And Winkup's just lowered the time again at the top.
18:4951.1 now is the time to beat.
18:53Garth's Tander on a good lap.
18:54Tantalizingly close to seeing a high 50 aren't we?
18:57Just someone will get it together.
18:58They just get the thing all stitched nicely.
19:01Not too much sliding.
19:02Tander.
19:03Oh, not quite.
19:0451.17.
19:06So .07 slower than Jamie Winkup.
19:09This is a good return to form for the Holman Racing Team as you said as we go back now to Winkup.
19:13As we go back now to Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom in the final complex.
19:17Here's Frosty.
19:18That looked clean through the final turn.
19:20You can watch the body language of the cars through there.
19:23And now P2 for Frosty.
19:25So Winterbottom 51.15.
19:28So we're measuring this in microseconds.
19:30A 51.10 Winkup.
19:3251.15 for Winterbottom.
19:3551.17 for Tander.
19:37It's an eye blink.
19:39Jason Bright, you can see on our timing monitor,
19:41has done the fastest first sector.
19:43He moves up into fourth.
19:44That's a great result for Bright.
19:46Car eight.
19:47Up inside the top.
19:48Ten.
19:49And Fabian Cooper goes onto the front row of the grid.
19:51Second behind Winkup.
19:53Fabian was really happy with the balance of the car on old tyres,
19:56but not quite as happy with it on the new tyre.
19:59But they've clearly addressed that.
20:01So a 1.2, he's 0.02 slower.
20:04That's all he needs to find to be on pole.
20:06And that's exactly the margin at the second sector mark
20:09that Winterbottom has against Winkup.
20:120.02 was the difference.
20:1651.18.
20:17That's 300 slower.
20:18The third and final sector is killing him.
20:21It's got to be absolute perfection to get the time.
20:24Winkup's going to rest on 51.105.
20:28So series leader Craig Lowndes is in the pit and out of the car.
20:32So eight position.
20:33That's a big moment there for Webb.
20:35Man, that was wide at the final corner.
20:38We've seen drama there all weekend so far.
20:40That was almost total pull the sign out of that car,
20:44crash into the fence.
20:45Very close.
20:46Last lap.
20:47Oh, you're out already, mate.
20:48You're out already.
20:49Just roll out, roll out pit this lap.
20:52All right, Winterbottom's had a couple of cracks at it.
20:56Every time he arrives down here, he's got two green boxes.
21:00The third and final sector is the absolute critical one.
21:05And again, again it gets them.
21:08It's 17 ten thousandths of a second this time.
21:1151.15 a game.
21:13Equals his own best lap.
21:15So Winkup, Coulthard, Winterbottom, Tander, Bright, Davison, Van Gisbergen.
21:20As we said, lounges out.
21:21McLaughlin, great job ninth.
21:23Alex Davison in the pit also.
21:25To see here the final lap for Coulthard.
21:27Don't think he'll improve.
21:29No, he doesn't.
21:30He's a long way away on the last one.
21:32So Winkup, very good job.
21:34And they'll have all been hurt by the amount of debris on the exit of turn six there.
21:39After Jonathan Webb was wildly off the road.
21:42I'll see you back here.
21:43That was a great session.
21:44Great session.
21:45And the tight margins are extraordinary.
21:47This is the man that's got the pole though.
21:5051.10 Jamie Winkup.
21:52And when you get in a clinch, it's remarkable how this guy and that team can be the guy with the microseconds on their side.
21:59He's won more races at this circuit than anybody else.
22:02He now has his third pole position here.
22:04Fabian Coulthard, his best ever start in a V8 supercar race on the front row of the grid.
22:09Winterbottom is always there at the end of the day when it comes to qualifying.
22:12So it's a pretty mixed up top ten and it should set the scene for a fascinating race three.
22:17Russell Ingle will start his 221st championship event from position 17.
22:23And the rear of the grid belongs to the two forwards of Tim Blanchard and Johnny Reid.
22:28So the Tasmania Microsoft Office 365 is underway on this spectacular Saturday afternoon in Launceston.
22:35Stay with us on 7Sport.
22:46It only took 51 seconds but that was a lap of pure focus.
22:50Jamie Winkup as he gets on the board in 2013.
22:54It's his first pole position since Winton last year.
22:57The ninth now of his career.
22:59He leads the way for Red Bull Racing Australia.
23:02And our defending series champ is with Goretz.
23:05Jamie Winkup, a decisive moment in your season.
23:08First pole of the year.
23:09The start of many to come hopefully.
23:15We haven't quite been happy with the way we've been doing our jobs.
23:18So today was great.
23:19The car felt fantastic.
23:21I pushed as hard as I possibly could.
23:23So tight like it always is around here at Tassie.
23:25But to get up by 200 is great.
23:27You look very comfortable.
23:28You've come out of the car.
23:29You've come out of the car.
23:30You're still very fresh in the way you're going about this.
23:32Was it just more controlled today do you think?
23:35The car is much better to drive today or this weekend than it was the first couple of rounds.
23:40It was trying to hurt me actually.
23:42It was trying to buck me off the track every second corner.
23:44But now we've calmed it down quite a bit with a test we did.
23:47So hopefully good things to come.
23:49Hopefully we're on top of things now.
23:50But such a long year.
23:52This is only one circuit.
23:53So we're not getting too carried away.
23:54But certainly very, very happy with pole.
23:56Enjoy pole position.
23:57Thank you Brad.
23:58Cheers mate.
24:00Hey I'm still getting asked a lot of questions about how the whole car of the future.
24:03And let's call it car of the now.
24:04How it works.
24:05And how the parity or the equalisation between each of the manufacturers works.
24:08So let's have a little bit of a recap.
24:10Now there's two key areas really.
24:12There's engine performance between the four manufacturers.
24:15And there's aerodynamic performance.
24:17Now when we talk about engine performance, let's be clear.
24:19Irrespective of what's out there in the road cars.
24:21They've all got to use a five litre V8 in our category.
24:25But they bring along their own DNA.
24:27Each manufacturer brings its own engine block along.
24:29Whatever that may be.
24:30That's fine.
24:31Now, peak performance we've talked about.
24:33They're all up around the 650 horsepower.
24:35And I've seen it.
24:36They're about 1% difference between a lot of them.
24:38So nothing at peak performance.
24:40But as we've demonstrated earlier today, it's not just about peak performance.
24:44There's drivability.
24:45Low RPM drivability off a corner.
24:48There's fuel efficiency.
24:49Now, they're not there yet.
24:50Nissan and the AMG Mercedes are not there yet.
24:52So they're allowed to do what we call homologation updates.
24:55They can put forward suggestions and things they're working on right now to improve that performance.
25:00Now, when that happens to ensure everyone is up to speed.
25:03Right now as we speak across each of the four manufacturers, they all have this torque sensor.
25:08Right now that's bolted into the tail shaft and electronically measures the output of the engine out there on the track.
25:13So no one can ever get a break.
25:16Aerodynamic performance.
25:17Now, this is measured at 200 kilometers an hour.
25:19And they've done, I think, over six tracks, about 20,000 kilometers of testing.
25:23And they've got about 145 kilograms of downforce at the front and about 210 at the rear, which means 355 overall.
25:32Now, I've seen the numbers.
25:33Forget anything you read.
25:34They are all very, very close to that.
25:37Drag.
25:38Again, they run them up to 200, get out of them, put them in neutral, and they see how long it takes them to coast down.
25:43And this is known as the frontal area of a car.
25:46What you see there is frontal area, and that determines the drag.
25:49And because they're all different, they've changed things like gurney heights and wing angles and what have you to get them all the same.
25:55Now, because of all of this is why our rules are so successful and for manufacturers, and believe me, I think others in years to come, come along and play.
26:04If this was another championship anywhere else in the world, those manufacturers would have to come and spend millions of dollars year in and year out to develop their cars.
26:12Not here.
26:13Well done, car of the future.
26:14Well done.
26:15Well done to you, Larko, as well as we gear up for the first 60-60 format race of the year.
26:21Better hold on.
26:22It's going to be a wild ride this afternoon.
26:23That's Matt Hall high above us.
26:25We've got the Aussie racing car still to come.
26:26And right after this, we're going to switch to two wheels.
26:29The Australian Superbike.
26:30Stay with us.
26:31With this, we need to look forward and see you more.
26:36Дайв do's car.
26:40Come on.
26:41C'monÙ† deploying the radio.
26:47Tarot went around for everything else so we can adventurer.
26:52día, día.
