00:00Quick sports from Eastside, Dave, what do we got?
00:02Yes, okay, well the Phillies beat the Reds 7-5, and Phillies are playing good baseball.
00:09Phillies catcher JT Riomuto slammed his 14th home run of the season.
00:13David Robertson picks up the save for the Phillies, that David Robertson, former Yankee.
00:18And the Phillies improved to 69-55, very much in the playoff picture for the National League wildcard.
00:26So good on the Phillies.
00:27The Yankees and Mets were inactive tonight.
00:30The Yanks take on the A's in Oakland, 9-40 starting time for that game.
00:34Jamison Tyone at 11-4 is on the mound for the Yanks.
00:38The Mets go against the Rockies at Citi Field, 7-10.
00:43Jacob DeGrom back on the hill for the Mets.
00:46Basketball, Kobe Bryant's widow Vanessa awarded $16 million as part of a $31 million jury verdict
00:55yesterday against Los Angeles County for deputies and firefighters who shared those grisly photos of Kobe Bryant.
01:05Their 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and other victims killed in a 2020 helicopter crash.
01:11That was horrible, man.
01:12Jury unanimously agreed that the photos invaded her privacy and caused emotional distress.
01:19And her co-plaintiff, Chris Chester, was awarded the other $15 million there.
01:25So, yeah, that was awful right there, sharing those photos.
01:28Oh, my gosh.
01:29NASCAR Team Penske signed 2018 NASCAR champion Joey Logano to a long-term contract extension yesterday
01:37that will lock down Logano and teammate Ryan Blaney for the next several years.
01:41PGA is now sort of competing against that Live Tour in Saudi Arabia.
01:47They've announced some new financial changes to the PGA Tour,
01:51including more tournaments with huge $20 million purses,
01:56plus a guaranteed minimum salary of $500,000 for fully exempt players.
02:03That sounds like a drop in the bucket from the money we saw those Saudis handing out.
02:07They offered Tiger Woods a billion dollars,
02:10and I believe Mickelson is getting like $250 million of guaranteed money.
02:16How about this?
02:16Can we get, like, the final green on the 18th hole?
02:19Can that have a windmill and a clown?
02:21Oh, that would be great, yeah.
02:22You know?
02:23It would be like Caddyshack 2.
02:24Yeah, yeah.
02:25Where you...
02:25Happy Gilmore.
02:26Yeah, you make the golf course into, like, a miniature thing.
02:30Don't compare my ideas to Caddyshack 2.
02:32Well, it's nice.
02:33I retract that 100% because that movie sucked.
02:37Oh, poor Jackie Mason.
02:40So upset that you said that.
02:41And finally...
02:42That was a...
02:43What?
02:43That thing was an abortion.
02:45I love Jackie Mason.
02:46And finally, this is sad news.
02:48Although, great life.
02:50Long life.
02:51Hall of Fame NFL quarterback and broadcaster Len Dawson died at the age of 87.
02:57Dawson was a big deal.
02:58He was a championship...
03:00He was the star quarterback of the championship-winning Kansas City Chiefs.
03:04They won Super Bowl IV.
03:06And obviously, Joe Namath and the Jets won Super Bowl III.
03:09But it was the follow-up that really did cement AFC as legit, not to be messed around with.
03:15And Dawson was the winner of that Super Bowl.
03:17But then, he parlayed that into, if you were a little kid like me, growing up in the 80s,
03:23the one show you had to watch was Inside the NFL on HBO.
03:28It was really one of the absolute first of its kind that gave you all access and behind the look
03:34and locker room looks at coaches delivering speeches and stuff.
03:38It was amazing.
03:39And Len Dawson was the host of Inside the NFL from 1977 to 2001.
03:45A huge...
03:45Was he the voice?
03:47The voice, I remember?
03:48Harry Callis did a lot of the voice.
03:49The Philadelphia Phillies announcer.
03:51Yeah, that big, big, big, giant NFL voice.
03:54Yeah, Harry Callis, well, he narrated the highlights.
03:58But then Len Dawson and Nick Bonaconti, member of the Miami Dolphins, they were the two hosts.
04:05Then they added on more hosts like Dan Marino.
04:08Yeah, but this was the guy.
04:09In fact, that's where Chris Collinsworth started.
04:11Before he became the announcer, he was on Inside the NFL.
04:14But yeah, I always felt like it was Len Dawson's show.
04:17He was kind of like the...
04:18He was OG.
04:19Dick Cavett of Inside the NFL.
04:21He was OG, man.
04:22Yeah, so Godspeed, 87 years old.
04:24That's your quick look at sports.
