00:00One of the better the crowds that we have seen here at Calder Park in recent years when the V8 Supercars returned to Melbourne, the Munro Safety Car, well, we have no cause for that to come out on the track so far today in the course of racing, let's hope we don't need it in the final race of the day, what a ripper it's going to be, we've seen two wins to Ford so far today, but consistency and aggregate on points put Stephen Richards on pole for this one, Craig Lowndes alongside him on the front row, Paul Ranisich and Mark Larcom on road
00:30two, Mark Scaife our championship leader alongside Garth Tanner, then it's Ellery and Tony Longhurst. Yeah, doesn't that reverse grid mix things up a bit, Greg Murphy starts out of nine, Neil Cropton alongside in ten, Jason Barg one and not having a good day, two Larry Perkins, Russell Engel after that jammed gearbox, finds himself starting out of 13th and Paul Wheel out of 16.
00:50We go further back, Cameron McConville alongside Todd Kelly, Paul Morris beside Steve Reid, row 11, Dougal McDougal and Craig Baird, then it's Alan Heath and Rick Bates on row 12.
01:00Mike Emery back there in 25th alongside Mick Donahoe, Rodney Forbes, boy he's been in some battles today, John Faulkner too, problem with a sticking throttle apparently, hope the team have fixed that one for heat three.
01:10Cameron McLean, the Queenslander and all sorts of dramas in the Greenfield car this weekend, Brad Jones too, not having a day he'd like to remember.
01:16Glenn Seaton very much struggling with the flu this afternoon, but he and Neil Crompton who says he picked it up from Glenn in the last few days have been having oxygen in between the heats here, pure oxygen as a means of trying to keep themselves alert.
01:30And focused for all of this afternoon's action.
01:33Fascinating scenario laying ahead, this really has been a fight back by Ford, Ford teams have been saying this is the first time they've run this new Tiger spoiler on the front of the Ford, which is effectively a VT Commodore front.
01:46And there's the point situation after race two, and that's fascinating, Radisic, Scaife, Lowndes and Richards.
01:53Now, if any one of those four drivers wins heat three, they're going to win the day, so we've got a real battle on our hands here in the final.
01:59Mark Larkham a little bit further adrift, two points behind, Tanda there too.
02:03So this should be a ripper.
02:06Craig Lowndes, study of concentration as he awaits the start.
02:1321 laps this one.
02:15The third and final race of the day.
02:17We could see some real changes to the structure of this championship too, particularly the battle for second place.
02:24Glenn Seton was 37 clear of Garth Tanda coming into this round.
02:27He had a non-finish in race two, and is starting, as you saw, well down the order in the third race of the day.
02:33Struggling very much.
02:34I tell you, you saw on the war of an up lap, you saw the muck and dirt off the line.
02:39You wouldn't want to get, once your tyres are hot, get pushed off line until you'd be really in the trouble to tickle that lot up.
02:44We've been lucky with the weather here today.
02:45Some ominous clouds overhead, but there's been no rain.
02:47Will it be Lowndes or Stephen Richards, who launches off the line in the third and final race of the day for round ten?
02:53Lowndes in big trouble.
02:54Richards out of there.
02:55Look at Larkham.
02:56He and Radisic are away, so too Tanda and Scaife.
02:58That's a rotten start for Craig Lowndes.
03:01God, disastrous start.
03:02Terrible start by the reigning champ.
03:04He really bogged it down there.
03:05He's lost a lot of track position as they head down to turn one.
03:08Stephen Richards, a brilliant job in the Kmart car.
03:10Paul Radisic up the inside of the Mitre 10 forward.
03:13They're going to go side by the Mitre 10 forward.
03:15Yeah, he's in a good position for the next one.
03:17Oh, that's Stephen Ellery.
03:18Still battling position as they come up toward the hill the first time.
03:21Radisic has won out, though.
03:23He goes ahead of the Mitre 10 car as this big fail sort of sells out.
03:26Alan Heath in trouble.
03:27Right at the back there in the Cooper's Falcon.
03:29The rat just muscled his way past Larkham, didn't he?
03:34Oh, look at Tanda.
03:35Tanda as well.
03:36Up the inside goes Garth Tanda.
03:38Great move on the Mitre 10 forward.
03:39But Larkham wants to fight back.
03:41Doesn't want to argue.
03:42Doesn't want to dent that new Falcon too badly on its first race appearance.
03:46Slots back in behind the Valvoline machine.
03:47Good aggressive move by Tanda.
03:49That puts him up the order.
03:50So to the Caltex, Havilane Ford, and there's John Faulkner.
03:53That sticking throttle problem, they obviously haven't been able to fix it.
03:56Faulkner out of action.
03:59As they continue down the front straight.
04:01Stephen Richards in the Kmart Commodore leading the way.
04:03There he is.
04:04Look at the gap.
04:04Back to Paul Radisic in second place.
04:07Tanda just holding out.
04:10Mark Larkham.
04:10There's Mark Scaife.
04:11Tony Longhurst.
04:12Hasn't he rocketed up the order too?
04:15Haven't we had some variety here this weekend?
04:18Two Fords winning.
04:19This is the first time we've had two Fords winning two races at a round since Winton in 1998.
04:24It's been a long drought for the Blue Oval supporters.
04:27But they're fighting back here at Call the Park Raceway this afternoon.
04:30They're so on board with Radisic.
04:32There's not a lot of room there, is there?
04:35Yeah, you see it puts him in perfect position for the next right-hander.
04:40There's no way that Larkham could fight it really.
04:45That's through turns one and two for the first time.
04:49Tanda positioned beautifully behind the Mitre 10 car.
04:52Coming up the end of the back straight.
04:54Fast lap from Stephen Richards.
04:58It's a standing time too.
04:59So first flying lap across the line.
05:02He drops a 57.91.
05:04But these guys getting down to the assortment of their best four tyres for the final race.
05:08We can expect those times to slip up a little bit.
05:11Look at it, it's getting very dark and very gloomy at Call the Park Raceway.
05:15See the odd drop of rain?
05:19Yeah, it did look like rain on that camera.
05:21Yeah, it did.
05:21On the lens of that.
05:22Keep an eye on that, but it's getting very dark.
05:24Oh, yes, that's, that's rain.
05:27Well, I said at the top of the call we've been lucky, but the heavens may be just starting
05:32to open up a little bit.
05:33Paul Radisic sitting in second place at the moment, and this rain, if it comes down harder,
05:38could really change this race.
05:39It would just be a sprinkle.
05:40Keep an eye on that, as will the teams in pit lane with their fingers crossed.
05:44It's going to be the Kmart team, Stephen Richards, and a consistent run like a drama.
05:49Paul Wheel.
05:49Paul Wheel.
05:51Craig Baird obviously involved in that as well.
05:54He's been in more fights since Sonny Liston today, hasn't he?
05:56Hasn't he?
05:57KMJ, the thermal machine back on the line, but he's pumping out a bit of smoke.
06:00Yeah, it's...
06:01And that left rear tyre's rubbing.
06:02Oh, that's the end of that thing.
06:03It's rubbing badly on the guard, isn't it?
06:05Looks like Baird has suffered the same fate on the opposite side on his car.
06:08But we have seen this situation before.
06:11Sometimes they clear.
06:12Look at that.
06:12The two forwards.
06:14The tyre's rubbing.
06:16So the Pertec Falcon of Craig Baird battles on as they come down through turn one once
06:23again.
06:24Here at the moment.
06:25Richards just over a second ahead of Paul Radisic.
06:28Tander in third.
06:30Larkham in fourth.
06:30Scaife in fifth.
06:32Longhurst.
06:33Lowndes back in seventh.
06:34Can you believe that?
06:35I'm starting off the front of the grid.
06:36Murphy.
06:37And Bargwana now up to ninth.
06:39Climbs himself in the top ten.
06:40And Neil Crompton too.
06:42Rounds out in the top ten.
06:44So a good recovery from Bargwana.
06:46I wonder if Larkham had any little sort of problem in the first lap.
06:50Because they sort of got past him.
06:54Well, not easily.
06:55But they were sort of all over him.
06:57And now he's all over the back of Tander.
06:58So I don't know whether...
06:59I wonder maybe if the tyres just had to come up the temperature.
07:01Yeah, exactly.
07:02It's quite cold here.
07:03It's only 14 degrees on track.
07:05So maybe as the tyres came right up to temperature now, Larkham starting to really get on the attack and chasing down Garth Tander in the meantime.
07:13Radisic has been able to pull clear of Tander.
07:15Tander is leading this freight train from third back.
07:20There you see out the front.
07:20The Shell Helix on board camera.
07:22Riding with...
07:24In fact, that's Mark Larkham, I should say.
07:26I'll stand corrected.
07:26The minor ten forward looking ahead to Garth Tander in third place.
07:30Scaife in behind Larkham.
07:31And then Longhurst in sixth.
07:32And how good is this racing?
07:34I don't know whether this Tiger spoiler has done the trick.
07:36But the Falcons are very competitive here.
07:38They're running neck and neck with the Commodores.
07:39They've been doing it all day.
07:40Oh, Crompton.
07:41Crompton just climbed himself into the top ten.
07:44And he's got damage on the back of the car there.
07:47So Crompton didn't know.
07:48Oh, no!
07:50Is that Ashby?
07:51Trevor Ashby, yeah.
07:52I was just going to say, he's got no luck.
07:53Well, that added to that story.
07:54Oh, that's the end of that one, isn't it?
07:56Rotten day for Trevor Ashby.
07:57Two starter motor problems.
07:58Oh, look.
07:59Beginning of race two.
08:02So Crompton gets it back into the battle.
08:05Alan Heath sneaks through on the inside.
08:07But I don't think Neil will be continuing this.
08:09Look at the state of that thing.
08:11Oh, yeah, damage.
08:12They're both ending for pit lane.
08:15So, unfortunately, the second of the four Tickford cars comes out.
08:21They might be able to fix that and get him back into the race.
08:23But he's way out of contention.
08:24So, too, Trevor Ashby.
08:25Big damage on the Lanceville car.
08:27And here comes Junior Johnson.
08:32Busy times in pit lane at the moment.
08:34Drama for two of the Fords.
08:35So that smoke.
08:37From the back of that guard.
08:38Let's have a look.
08:39Under the front of.
08:44Not quite sure what court.
08:45Oh, look at this.
08:46This is major.
08:48Well, he's tried to limp it back to the pits.
08:50But there's so much damage to the front of the car.
08:52He couldn't even maintain steering.
08:54So he's had to park that on the entry to pit lane.
08:58Look at this.
08:59Look at this.
09:00Guarded.
09:01I mean, it's Tom Kelly, I should say, and John Bowie.
09:03It's the old duo again.
09:06Round two.
09:07Oh, a bit of hustle from here.
09:11The Repco Commodore, Cameron McConville.
09:14The big Kev Commodore of Paul Morris in there too.
09:16This is the battle a bit further back in the pack.
09:18Bow in a 12th position.
09:21Kelly 13th.
09:22McConville 14th.
09:23Morris 15th.
09:23And Glenn Seaton back there in 16th.
09:27It's incredible, isn't it?
09:27When you look at the speed that car had at Wynton.
09:30And the trouble they're having getting it to work at Calder Park.
09:35Let's take a close look at a few incidents here on the Shell.
09:37Helix replay.
09:38And that's the aftermath of Cromwell.
09:40It looks like Larry.
09:41Yeah, Larry.
09:41Oh, and that's where Stephen got his whack there, obviously, with something.
09:47Yeah, that was Larry, wasn't it?
09:50Didn't see how the reaction started.
09:53There's the aftermath, though.
09:56That was a fair old whack as well.
09:58Big damage to the office Commodore.
10:00You can see him trying to limp back into the pits.
10:02It's a great battle here.
10:04Up at the front of the pack.
10:05Garth Tander defending hard in third position from this tremendous battle.
10:09Larkham in behind him.
10:10Scaife in there, too.
10:12Longhurst in the Caltechs.
10:13Hamiline Ford.
10:14Lowndes on the back of the Falcon.
10:16Murphy in eighth.
10:16Barguana in ninth.
10:17Ingle now climbs up into the top ten.
10:19Looks as though Radisic has been able to close that gap slightly on Stephen Richards,
10:23our leader, as well.
10:24So Radisic being able to pull clear of Tander.
10:28That's aiding his bid to try and chase our leader down.
10:31Here's Garth Tander.
10:32I think if Tander, as I was going to say, if Larkham could get out of this right at the back side of Tander,
10:38you see the full when he gets into, like, fifth and sixth gear,
10:42starts to, now, you see it starts to gain on the, on the holden,
10:47but he needs to come out there right up his bottle to be able to get past him at the end of the straight.
10:52Then you still got to get past him.
10:54Damage to the front of Larry Perkins' Commodore there.
10:57Yeah, me.
10:58Larry might be kind of senior officials at a busy day on there.
11:00Yeah, he's got a season ticket today, hasn't he, really?
11:03Great shot at the end of the main straight at Calder Park.
11:06The cars break hard over the bumps for turn one.
11:09Paul Radisic, meanwhile, 0.7 of a second behind our race leader, Stephen Richards.
11:14Shell forward driver trying everything to get in front.
11:17Keep in mind, Radisic, Scaife, Lowndes and Richards.
11:20Once any of those Ford drivers win this final heat, they will win the day overall.
11:24So there's a real incentive there for Paul Radisic to try and get his way in front of that Kmart Commodore,
11:29because that'll be the first Ford round win for season 2000.
11:33Here's Brad Jones, who had problems with a broken wishbone on the car heading into this race.
11:38The team were working frantically to make sure it was repaired in time for the race.
11:42Look at this battle going on here.
11:44McLean all over the back of Dougal.
11:46McDougal coming for the right as well.
11:48Rodney Forbes, he manages to sneak past McLean.
11:50The final turn that brings them onto this long drag strip at Calder Park.
11:54They work up towards 260 kilometres plus here.
11:58Then it's hard under brakes for turn one.
11:59McLean sitting in behind Forbes.
12:02Just incredible level of competition, isn't it?
12:04That's a battle for 18th, 19th and 20th.
12:06Just the old thing in touring cars, if you made the top 10, you were going,
12:09well, these days if you're in the top 20, you're doing a fair old job of it.
12:12And the margins separating them too, Mark, in terms of lap times, are so minimal.
12:16There is just nothing in it.
12:17Incredibly close.
12:18It looks like Steve Richards has got the measure of Radisic at the moment.
12:23It's two tenths of a second quicker in our last lap.
12:27Engel, apparently in 10th position.
12:32He's just past Bargwana, in fact, so that puts him up to ninth.
12:37Check this out in the replay.
12:42So Russell Engel continues to defend.
12:45It's been a rough old day for Russell.
12:47That gearbox problem in heat one has cost him dearly.
12:50You cannot afford to have the slightest mechanical hitch in this race.
12:52Oh, very very.
12:53Up the inside as they break hard.
12:55Is there going to be contact between the two?
12:56No.
12:57Oh, yes.
12:58Bargwana gives him racing room, but they're giving each other the elbow.
13:01Oh, Bargwana's hanging on as they come up toward turn two.
13:05Turn three, over the hill.
13:06Continuing to attack at the Valvoline Cummings machine, but Perkins got him.
13:09Let's have a look at that in the replay.
13:12Yeah, Engel up the inside on the brakes.
13:14This is one lap beforehand.
13:16Yep, it's a nice tidy move.
13:18Larry had a sniff as well.
13:20He had to wait another lap before he got past the Valvoline Cummings machine.
13:24That put Engel up to ninth.
13:24Bargwana to tenth.
13:28And then Larry took Bargwana, dropping him back to eleventh place.
13:33I reckon Bargwana might be struggling with something because he didn't, you know, he wasn't trying to protect the corner at all, was he?
13:40You know, he gave Rasa plenty of room.
13:43And if you look there, Larry's pulled out a decent amount of ground in half a lap.
13:47Well, if you've just joined us, Stephen Richards leads the way from Paul Radisic and Garth Tander.
13:53The gap closing two between Radisic and Richards.
13:55Larkham in fourth, Mark Skate fifth.
13:57Craig Lowndes, the defending champion, has gone from the front row of the grid back to seventh, courtesy of that bad start, unfortunately.
14:04We'll look further back through the field for you.
14:07Russell Engel, there he is, now up to ninth position.
14:09Bargwana tenth.
14:11John Dow rounds out the top twelve at the moment.
14:13Stay with us.
14:14The closure of waste one coming in race three rather than coming your way right after this.
14:17Stephen Richards leading the way in the final race of the day for round ten of the Shell Championship Series.
14:26You can see there, though, as they work down that back straight, the gap between Richards and Paul Radisic is starting to close.
14:34Radisic, our race one winner today.
14:36There's been two victories for Ford here at Calder Park.
14:39Mark Larkham winning race two.
14:41Well, this is a tremendous battle.
14:42These two have been swapping some very fast lap times over the past twelve circuits.
14:48That last time around, Radisic dropped three-tenths of a second on Richards and allowed him to pump it out to just over a second.
14:53We'll check it on our timing monitor this time across, but this is an intense battle now for the lead.
14:58Oh, it's pretty close now.
15:00Both these drivers know that whoever wins this race will win the round overall.
15:031.1 seconds.
15:05So Richards has done it again.
15:06Just a tenth of a second faster than Radisic this time around.
15:10This is intense stuff.
15:12Both drivers trying to find an advantage as they pick their way through traffic.
15:17Richards knows he cannot afford to even blink and Radisic will pout.
15:22Over the rise.
15:23The inside of Alan Heath's Falcon.
15:27Yeah, he did a good job of getting him out of the way.
15:29Gave him room.
15:30Radisic under brakes at the end of the back straight.
15:32It's been a very strong performance from the Shell driver.
15:36Currently fifth in the Shell Championship Series point standing.
15:40Some 77 points behind Craig Lowndes.
15:43Radisic well in this battle with the first of the double points races coming up at Queensland Raceway in September.
15:48A double World Cup champion when it comes to touring car racing.
15:52Paul Radisic spent many years overseas campaigning.
15:54A factory Ford Mondeo in the British Championship and drove for Peugeot for a while there as well.
16:02Came to Australia a couple of years ago but has had a winless run until this season in terms of the championship.
16:08And now, today, cracked it for your second race win.
16:11Oh, Steve Henry.
16:11Of the championship.
16:12There's Ellery.
16:13I'll tell you what, the Ford supporters and I'm sure Ford Motor Company will have their fingers crossed.
16:17One of these four teams can at least take one round win this year.
16:21Because don't forget, in 1998, they only won one championship round.
16:25They repeated that in 99 with Jason Bright's sole victory at Hidden Valley.
16:28They are staring down the barrel this year of not having won one single Shell Championship round in 2000.
16:35And they've got four more chances to do it.
16:37Time running out for the Blue Oval.
16:38It's odd, Kelly and Bowie are still together.
16:43That's a great battle here between the veteran and the youngster.
16:47We saw them come together.
16:50High-speed circumstances earlier on in the day.
16:52Now they're glued together.
16:53There's almost a rubber band between them at the moment.
16:55John Bow carrying our B Clear and Simple onboard camera.
17:00Swing on to the main straight once again.
17:02Glenn Seaton doing a marvellous job here as well, given that he's not a well-boy at the moment.
17:06In the Ford Tickford Racing Falcon, he sits in behind.
17:10This great battle going on between Bow and Kelly.
17:12And it's been raging for a couple of laps now.
17:14The Catafilla Ford driver sits in 12th position.
17:16Kelly 13th and Glenn Seaton in 14th.
17:19What about the in-car camera stuff we had?
17:22Oh, a little bit of a tap.
17:23A little bit of a tap there.
17:24Oh, more than a love tap there from Todd Kelly.
17:26We had some in-car camera stuff of Glenn Seaton of his face.
17:29And he was driving around in qualifying, coughing, spluttering.
17:33It looked quite strange.
17:35He actually had the week off work, which is quite rare for him.
17:38And he's talking today about taking next week off as well.
17:41He's just not well.
17:41He said he needs time off to recuperate, particularly with the endurance races coming up.
17:45He talked to him.
17:46He's just about lost his voice.
17:48He's not well at all.
17:49He's battling here, though.
17:50Ford Livid in-car camera.
17:53Riding with Glenn Seaton, currently second in the Shell Championship chase.
17:57Locked in a battle for 12th position between John Bauer and Todd Kelly.
18:02Twice champion in the series, 93 and 97.
18:06It's been a while between drinks for Glenn.
18:09Took a race victory, of course, very recently for FTR at Winton.
18:14As we jump aboard, be clear and simple.
18:17Telemetry on board the Ford credit car.
18:19Look how close he gets behind Ted Kelly as they dive on the brakes at the end of the straight.
18:23I'll tell you what, that car on Todd Caddys is pretty quick.
18:28He's done a good job this year.
18:31Of course, won that heat at Canberra to the GMC 400 earlier.
18:38He has dramatically improved his performances this year over last year.
18:42As he comes to grips with what's required to drive these V8 Monsters.
18:46Tells the story.
18:47About 240 kilometres an hour before they break hard on the approach to the corner at the end of the back straight.
18:52Through the S's.
18:55Glenn Seton, hard at work, trying to improve on his 14th position at the moment.
19:03Meanwhile, at the front, 1.5 seconds.
19:06Stephen Richards is pumping it out on Paul Radisic.
19:09Michelle Ford has had no answer for the Kmart machine here this afternoon.
19:13This is strong, consistent race pace from our race leader.
19:16Paul Radisic, almost 1.6 seconds in arrears of the Kmart Holden.
19:19Well, what a day this has turned out to be in terms of against all odds victories.
19:23Four laps remain in this one.
19:25Race 1, we saw Dick Johnson racing.
19:27And here's the second of their campaign.
19:28As Stephen Johnson into the pits again.
19:30And apparently there is damage to the back of that car.
19:33One of the back doors.
19:34But as I mentioned, a great win for Paul Radisic.
19:38His second ever victory in the Shell Championship Series.
19:40It came in Race 1 today.
19:42And a much needed win for Ford.
19:43Then we saw Mark Larkham break through for his first in Race 2 today.
19:48And the Kmart team, they are certainly coming good.
19:51Stephen Richards, to give you an idea, has been improving his qualifying this season.
19:55It's the fifth meeting in a row he's qualified inside the top ten.
19:58So the Kmart team are definitely making inroads.
20:02Greg Murphy has got a new car this weekend.
20:04They're still working on that one.
20:05But there's a great likeness between the cars now in terms of their design and build.
20:09And the drivers say, thankfully, they can now work together at getting both of their cars up the front.
20:13Yeah, they can compare their setups accurately and see which one works best.
20:16That's always the advantage of having a two-car team.
20:19Two drivers can go out on totally different setups.
20:21They'll find which is the most effective.
20:23And then they can both duplicate that setup.
20:27And they haven't been able to do that previously with the Kmart team.
20:29And now they've got identical cars.
20:31This is really going to help them in their technological chase.
20:34But some new people on board there.
20:36Ross Holder, Oscar Fear and Otto.
20:38The man who used to be chief engineer on Russell Engel's car switched over from the Perkins camp this year.
20:44But there are changes happening at Kmart Racing.
20:47And they are really starting to gel as a team.
20:49Keep in mind, they're only under the Kmart collars.
20:52Only a relatively new team.
20:53And it does take a while to gel into a genuine championship and race-winning operation.
20:57Richards has definitely got the handle of Radicev.
21:01He's just putting a tenth of a second of lap.
21:05So I don't think there's any problems for Richards.
21:071.8 seconds the gap now.
21:09Almost two seconds.
21:10So Richards has been inching away from the shell forward.
21:13This is the battle behind them, though.
21:16Mark Larkham in fourth.
21:17This is going good.
21:19Tony Longhurst, Craig Lowndes locked in there, too.
21:21He has been able to do nothing about this after qualifying on pole position.
21:26And due to the aggregate score, finding himself on a front row starting position for Heat 3.
21:31He finds himself down in seventh place.
21:33It's been a pretty disappointing day for our reigning champ.
21:35The Enforcer continues his charge up through the order as well.
21:38He's now gotten past Greg Murphy into eighth position.
21:41We take a look out the back of Mark Larkham's minor 10 forward.
21:44You see Mark Scaife, yeah, really got clear of Scaife there, didn't he?
21:48Longhurst in behind Scaife.
21:50Then it's Craig Lowndes.
21:51The important thing to remember here, too, that Mark Scaife, after race two, had extended his lead over seat into 173 points.
21:58He's doing our sums on what that lead will be after this race.
22:02But this has been an important championship round for Mark Scaife.
22:06As he tries to build on that buffer.
22:09He came into this round 136 points up on his nearest pursuer, Glenn Seaton.
22:13Seaton's not had a good day today.
22:16Scaife has been able to capitalise on the points situation.
22:19He said today, too, that it was important to just consolidate.
22:22That's exactly what he's done coming into this round.
22:24There were still 640 points up for grabs.
22:28Don't forget, there's a couple of big double points endurance races coming up.
22:30The FAI, 1,000, not too far away.
22:33And the Queensland 500 is coming up as well.
22:36The first of the big Enduros where co-drivers become a big factor.
22:39And Lowndes and Scaife, what a strong combination they are going to be for Holden Racing.
22:43Right there with Lowndes.
22:44He'll be teaming up with Mark Scaife, unlike last year.
22:47But a fantastic performance from Stephen Richards.
22:52He takes the race victory and thoroughly deserve it as well.
22:56The round victory as well.
22:57A brilliant performance from him.
22:59Paul Radisic home second.
23:00Garth down to third.
23:02And Larkham will finish fourth.
23:05I've got to say, it's nice to see the forwards do good.
23:07There's Angela, Stephen's wife, who is here today with her son, Clayton.
23:12And Rick Bates, he's been practising a bit of his rallying today, hasn't he?
23:17The colour scan forward.
23:18He too will be teaming up with Brett Peters in that Falcon for the upcoming Endurance events.
23:24But there's the man of the moment.
23:25Stephen Richards did it at the GMC 400.
23:27Took out that inaugural street race in fantastic circumstances in Canberra earlier this year.
23:33And he takes out the round here as well at Calder Park.
23:36That's so good, Greg.
23:39If that under tray does make the difference, has made the difference, that's going to be so good.
23:45Well, Stephen Richards takes out the round and race three.
23:47Radisic home second.
23:48Garth down to third.
23:49Larkham fourth.
23:51Skate rounds out your five.
23:52And Russell Ingle sneaking inside the top eight as well.
23:55So a good performance from Russell Ingle with Sprite problems earlier in race one today.
23:59Murphy, Perkins, Barguana at Bow.
24:01That's how they finished in race three.
24:03We'll come back to wrap it up on the other side of this.
24:05Stephen Richards and the Kmart race team celebrate for the second time in season 2000.
24:15Well done.
24:15He took out the GMC 400 and he takes out the round here.
24:18Round 10 at Calder Park today.
24:20That's how they finished at the end of the third race of the day.
24:23A couple of movers there.
24:24Craig Lowndes falling back from second to seventh.
24:26Glenn Seton charging up the order, though.
24:28A good performance from him considering he hasn't been too well.
24:30Let's go to the podium and Mark Osler.
24:32Well, a tremendously exciting round 10 of the Shell Championship Series for 2000.
24:37A great fight back by Ford.
24:39And also an equally impressive performance from Kmart Racing,
24:41who were really starting to deliver in the sprint rounds in 2000.
24:45But a very strong performance from a man who's been in the championship battle all year.
24:48He now jumps to second in the points chase.
24:50Put your hands together for the young gun, Garth Dander.
24:56How about that?
24:57Now, you're the one, you're always saying to me,
24:59I never give up, I never give up.
25:00Well, that just shows today, you battled on.
25:02Seton wasn't so strong.
25:04That puts you second in the points.
25:05Boy, it's still alive, isn't it?
25:06Oh, absolutely.
25:07Like I said, never giving up till the last lap of Bathurst.
25:09And we didn't qualify especially well yesterday.
25:13So we really had to work hard.
25:14And the guys did a sensational job.
25:16The car was not great this morning.
25:17And they tore it away and came up with a great setup for that last one.
25:20And we used a reverse grid to our benefit.
25:22And, yeah, not a bad day.
25:24So thanks to Valvoline, Cummins, Holden, Repco, and all our boys,
25:27they did a sensational job.
25:29Put your hands together, folks.
25:30They did do a sensational job.
25:31The Valvoline, Cummins team, watch Garth Tander in action at the Queensland 500.
25:35Second today.
25:36Well, what a great day for the Ford fans.
25:38I know it's been a long time between drinks,
25:39but they are starting to come back.
25:41Gangbusters in 2000.
25:42Put your hands together for the rat, Paul Radisic.
25:44Now, I don't know if it was a result of that new front spoiler you got on the car or the team's just going well.
25:55But, gee, they were strong here today.
25:56It was very strong.
25:58Sure, the front spoiler is a big help.
26:00It's just balanced the car out a little bit better.
26:01Still a lot more work to go.
26:03But we'll see you in the next round.
26:04I mean, Calder is all about stopping and getting the power down.
26:07So, we'll see what happens when we get to the next track.
26:09But very pleased.
26:10Thanks to DJR for putting the car together and making it so strong.
26:14Shell, of course.
26:15And everybody for coming out.
26:16It's been a great day.
26:18Queensland 500 coming up last year.
26:20You were very quick there last year.
26:21You think you can continue that speed this time around?
26:23Well, it's a long-distance race.
26:25And, you know, last year was all about conserving the tyres.
26:28Not a problem this year.
26:30So, it's going to be a sprint race, but a sprint endurance.
26:34Watch the forwards go at Queensland, folks.
26:35That's the message from the four teams.
26:36Paul Radisic second today at Calder Park.
26:40Right now, I'd like to call on Ross Brodie,
26:41the motorsport manager for this fabulous series,
26:44to award the winner's trophy to our overall winner,
26:47second time this year, Stephen Richards.
26:54That feels all right, doesn't it?
26:56Wow, second time this year.
26:57Canberra was the first time.
26:58And the Kmart team, it looks like you're overcoming
27:01those qualifying blues once and for all.
27:03Yeah, we are, Mark.
27:04We're getting there.
27:04The team have done a tremendous job.
27:06The car in that race was just so consistent.
27:08It was basically banging out the same lap time, lap after lap.
27:10So, full credit goes to Kmart Racing.
27:13Kmart, the family store, Castrol and Holden
27:15for producing VT Commodore.
27:17Great weekend for us.
27:18Fantastic.
27:18Great weekend for the fans, too.
27:20Put your hands together.
27:21Stephen Richards, the big winner at Calder Park Raceway.
27:24Well, it was odd, I guess, not to see Mark Scaife
27:26on the podium today, but despite that,
27:29he has managed to build on his championship lead here.
27:31Garth Tanner, though, as you can see
27:32from the revised championship point score,
27:34moves up into second place ahead now of Glenn Seaton.
27:37So, a change of position there.
27:38And the man who was on top of things very early in the season,
27:41climbing back up the ladder,
27:42but Scaife well on top and looking good for championship honours.
27:45Defending champion Craig Lowndes in fourth.
27:46Paul Radisic, who was on the podium today there
27:48in fifth position.
27:49We go back, Jason Barguana.
27:50So, both Valvoline Cummins drivers
27:52are inside the top ten
27:53in terms of the championship point score.
27:56Well, as the rain starts to fall
27:57here at Calder Park Raceway,
27:58I can tell you, Barry Sheaton's been a great day, hasn't it?
28:01I've always wanted to be your brolly girl.
28:03Yeah, it has.
28:04I mean, it's been really good.
28:05You know, today it's been so competitive.
28:07It's great to see the forwards up there,
28:09and that's the first time I have seen the podium
28:11in an HRT free zone for a long time.
28:13Yeah, that's very odd indeed.
28:14They are such a good team, Holden Racing,
28:15and it was odd not to see them in that position today.
28:18A day of against-all-odds victories.
28:19Lots more coming your way right here
28:21on your home of motorsport,
28:22and it starts with round 11
28:23of the World Motorcycle Championship
28:25coming to you from Bruneau.
28:27Check your local guides there
28:28and join Billy Woods
28:28and, of course, Darrell Beattie for that one.
28:30The Kart World Series continues.
28:32Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin tomorrow night.
28:34Bill Woods and Neil Crompton
28:35will bring you all of the action there.
28:36Check your local guides.

28:39the Queensland 500,
28:41the first of the big Enduros,
28:42is coming your way in just a few weeks' time.
28:44Well, it's been a great day's racing here.
28:46Some against-all-odds victories.
28:47We trust you've enjoyed it.
28:48Take care and bye for now.
28:49Oh, no, he's not a happy champion.
29:03Oh, no, he's coming off.
29:05Oh, this car's going.
29:06There must be something on the road.
29:11Oh, no.
29:14Oh, look, it's Larry.
29:23Oh, no.
29:27Oh, big crash in.
29:28He's going to have to try and pick some of that debris.
29:30Oh.
29:30Oh.
29:32Sideways is Larry.
29:38Oh, this is Brad Jones.
29:39Oh, that's a big line.
29:41Oh, look at that.
29:44Paul Morris and Mark Martin.
29:46Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:47I think it's over there, Harry.
29:48Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:49Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:49Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:50Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:50Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:51Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:51Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:52Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:53Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:53Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:53Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:55Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:55Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:57Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
29:58Oh, yeah, I'll do that.
