00:00In 25 years, I probably have napped 25 years, like sleeping beauty.
00:07You would think, read the headline one more time.
00:10Let me just like observe it, absorb it.
00:13Napping too much could lead to early death, a new study finds.
00:16I wonder why that is, because you would think, like people always tell you, get your beauty
00:21rest, you know, make sure you get eight hours of sleep at night so that your brain is working
00:26properly in the morning.
00:28Wait till you hear.
00:29It is even more tailored towards me.
00:32Those who nap more on average have a greater risk of developing high blood pressure and
00:38stroke, according to a new analyst published Monday in the hypertension category of the
00:45American Heart Association Journal.
00:47That's me.
00:48I have hypertension.
00:49I'm on a daily pill, y'all, for the last three years.
00:53And I'm like, what?
00:55I'm not sure that's because of your naps.
00:58But you're going against the American Heart Association Journal.
01:01I just don't understand the correlation, because if you have high blood pressure, typically
01:06you're like too wound tight to to nap.
01:09A lot of times you're tired, though, and you do nap, especially if you take that pill.
01:14Hypertension puts you at a risk for heart disease and stroke, which are the leading causes
01:17of death in the U.S.
01:18So the researchers looked at sleep habits and medical histories of some 360,000 people.
01:26That's a ton of people.
01:27That's a lot of people.
01:28OK.
01:28Now, granted, it was in the U.K., but they found that participants who took naps on most
01:33days saw a 24 percent increase in their likelihood of stroke.
01:37Wow.
01:38And were 12 percent more likely to be diagnosed with hypertension over time.
01:42OK, so follow me for a second.
01:44This is going to sound crazy.
01:46But did we ever think to maybe start eating better to lower our cholesterol so that we
01:50didn't have to be on the pill?
01:52Thus, the naps wouldn't affect us in a negative fashion.
01:55Yes.
01:55But let me take you back to a conversation I had with my doctor years ago.
01:59High blood pressure.
02:00Took it again.
02:01High blood pressure.
02:01There's something called white coat.
02:04Yeah.
02:04You're a fear of the actual being at the doctor.
02:08Right.
02:08Right.
02:08And then I'm also I knew I wanted my number to get down.
02:11So I'm sitting there as the cup is being pressed up.
02:14So he goes, it's not working, Manny.
02:17We have two options.
02:18I go, what are my options?
02:19He goes, you can either knock out beer, alcohol, wings, salty food.
02:23And I go, and my other option, he goes, you could get on a daily pill, but you're a
02:26little young for it.
02:27I go, write me up the pill.
02:28What are we talking here?
02:30You kidding me?
02:31That's what I said.
02:32This might be crazy.
02:33But do we ever think maybe to cut the alcohol and salty foods?
02:36So people who nap, it's even more worrisome in those ages 60 and under, as napping most
02:42days led to a 20% higher chance of developing high blood pressure.
02:47This is so you.
02:47This article should have said, hey, Steve Maney, I got one for you.
02:52My doctor says that the high blood pressure is hereditary.
02:55And my dad has it.
02:56My mom has it.
02:57I think so, too.
02:57When I did my virtual visit with my dad the other day after he had a health scare, he's
03:02on three different blood pressure pills.
03:04I'm like, what?
03:05So I said to the doctor, I go, can't we just get him on one?
03:08He goes, no, no, we have to.
03:09We can't just take him off any there.
03:10There's a reason why.
03:11Right.
03:11He's on different ones for different reasons, I'm sure.
03:14All right.
03:14So no more naps.
03:16I'm going to take a second job so I can stay awake during the afternoon because that's
03:19why I fall asleep.
03:20I go home.
03:21I eat.
03:21And I'm like, all right, let me just catch up on DVR.
03:24I don't know that not taking the nap is the better option, though.
03:27Like what?
03:28I'd like to see the health precautions for the people who don't take naps because then they're going
03:32to die and they're cranky.
03:34Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
