00:00Yeah, let's see you guys every day on the way to work.
00:02On KISS 95.1.
00:05This is kind of ironic.
00:06Lauren was just reading an article off the air.
00:09And about 20 minutes ago, we were talking about how there was a tipping disaster last night at Roy's kind of goodbye party that we threw.
00:16Not that we didn't tip.
00:17It was like we had a tip on a credit card.
00:20And you guys know that that's always hard if you're in the serving industry.
00:24If you're going to tip on a big check, it's like, oh, charge me a penny.
00:28And then I'll tip you on that.
00:30So you got $201 or something.
00:32So we had gift cards.
00:33And then we wanted to tip on top of it.
00:35No one could find the tip thing.
00:37It was a mess.
00:38I thought I was going to have to pay for the whole night myself.
00:40Oh, come on.
00:42Dramatic.
00:44Lauren yells out, we're bad tippers.
00:46And I'm like, no, we're not.
00:47And you're like, no, no, no, in this article.
00:48So I'm curious, what'd you find?
00:51Americans as a whole are bad tippers.
00:55This is according to creditcards.com.
00:57They just did a survey.
00:59And I know despite one third of Americans vowing to tip better in 2020 and 2021, it has actually decreased since then.
01:11What?
01:11Which I kind of understand with everything being so expensive, people are probably like cutting back on things.
01:18Right.
01:18So tipping is one of those things that they're cutting back on.
01:21But I truly don't you don't cut back tipping.
01:23I truly believe that you shouldn't go out if you don't have the intention to tip.
01:28I agree.
01:29If you want to go eat out, then you need to be prepared to tip.
01:32It's part of it.
01:33It's part of it.
01:34I'm almost doing the opposite, too.
01:35Like, well, there's two things that I do with tipping.
01:38One, if you're a fan of the show and you're a server and you know who we are and we talk about it, you get a good tip.
01:46Right.
01:46Because the last thing I want to do is have you chirping about how Maney is a bad tipper.
01:50Yeah.
01:50So that's a good word of advice.
01:53If you if you're a server and you know us, say something.
01:55Yes.
01:56You'll get way more than what I was planning on giving you.
01:59So, Maney, what are you generation wise?
02:01You're not a millennial.
02:02You're a Gen Xer.
02:03A Gen X.
02:04So baby boomers are the best tippers, then Gen Xers, then millennials, then Gen Zers.
02:10Like Gen Zers are at the bottom.
02:12No, I don't believe that at all.
02:13Well, I do.
02:14As a former server, I don't believe that.
02:16You don't think Gen Zers are the worst tippers?
02:18It was always the old people who tipped the worst.
02:21They'd leave like two bucks on a massive bill.
02:24I'm surprised at that because I would think that once the Gen Zers get older, that's when they start tipping more.
02:29Like, I get that they're not tipping a lot.
02:30Right, because they don't have as much money.
02:33Yeah.
02:33No.
02:34Huh.
02:34No.
02:35It was always old people.
02:36Hmm.
02:37It was, I'm telling you, 98% of the time, old people would give me the worst tips.
02:43Wow.
02:43And they would, because I think that they thought the value of dollar was a lot different.
02:48Back in my day.
02:50Yeah.
02:50Like, you know, they thought this $2 was going to do, you know, laps.
02:55I always love, and I know it's early.
02:57Usually our servers are like up and around in about another two hours from now.
03:01But if anybody worked in the service industry and you weren't tipped with money, they left something else for you.
03:08I always love hearing those stories.
03:10I would get those little Jesus cards on Sunday.
03:15704-570-9595.
03:17Share with us real quick if you can.
03:19What did someone tip you with?
03:21If it wasn't cash, what did they give you?
03:23Shannon in Lincolnton, you're on with the Manny Roy and the Ren morning show.
03:27Good morning.
03:28Hey, Shannon.
03:29So you have a good question.
03:30My cousin does this.
03:32My cousin tips at fast food places.
03:34And she was shocked that I didn't.
03:37Yeah.
03:37So, like, now when you go to, like, Jersey Mike's or some of these places that are traditionally fast food, it prompts you to tip.
03:44And, like, the suggested tip is 18 to 20%.
03:48I mean, they're not really providing you a service.
03:51I mean, they're not going out of their way to make your sandwich any more special than what it normally would be.
03:57So, yeah.
03:59I don't know.
04:00If I use a credit card and there's a line for tip, I always leave something.
04:06Yeah.
04:07Yeah, I do, too.
04:08But, I mean, it's almost like the tipping culture, I think, has gotten a little out of hand.
04:14I agree.
04:15You know those people, when they hand you an iPad to sign on, you know it's always you're tipping for something you probably shouldn't tip for.
04:21What do you mean?
04:23Like, I'll give you a prime example.
04:25There's this food prepping service that, like, me and Nicole get.
04:30And they, once you get your food, and it's expensive because it's food for the week.
04:34Okay.
04:34They then flip the iPad to you.
04:36Oh, I know what you mean now.
04:37Okay.
04:37And there's, like, a big part for a tip.
04:40Yeah.
04:40And you're like, if I get, and this is food for a week.
04:42Jersey Mike's has that.
04:43Yes, I know what you're talking about.
04:44And this is food for a week.
04:45So, if I put an 18, 20% tip in, I'm about to throw down, like, $100.
04:49Like, it's not a reason.
04:51You know what I'm talking about, Nicole?
04:53Yeah.
04:54We use a similar food service here in Mooresville, and they do the same thing.
05:00They turn the iPad around, and it's, you know, the suggested tip is, like, 15% to 20%, and it's, you're already paying premium for prepared food.
05:10Right.
05:10I'm already paying out of the wazoo for it.
05:12It's not like, yeah.
05:13I see what you're saying, Shannon.
05:14I see what you're saying.
05:15Have a great day.
05:16What was your weird tip, Nicole?
05:17So, I worked, in college, I worked for Jimmy John's for two weeks.
05:21Two weeks?
05:22Like, literally two weeks.
05:24And it was the strangest, like, the way I, like, everything about it was just a weird place in my life.
05:28And one day, it was rainy, and something happened to one of the deliverers, so I got asked, like, hey, can you go make this delivery?
05:38Sure, no problem.
05:40Did it.
05:40But I ended up going to, like, a sorority house to deliver, and she was like, wait, hold on, like, you know, thinking, okay, I'm going to go get a tip.
05:51She gave me a Vogue magazine.
05:55But it said $7.99.
05:58It was a limited edition.
06:00Yeah.
06:00Yeah.
