00:01Is this for real? Is there going to be a candy shortage?

00:04I'm literally blogging it right now.

00:06I mean, are you serious?

00:09Yeah.

00:09Oh, no.

00:11According to the USA Today, this is a true story.

00:15Some trick-or-treaters may not see Halloween favorites that they're used to.

00:18First, it was the Choco Taco.

00:20Now it's this stuff, the Halloween candy, too?

00:23Listen, supply-demand chains are just falling apart on us.

00:27Hershey has announced that they expect to face a candy shortage this fall,

00:30especially when it comes to the candy-filled holiday.

00:34They will not be able to fully meet the customer's demand, the CEO of Hershey said.

00:41Hershey's added production capacity but says it can't keep up this year.

00:45Part of the problem is the ongoing supply chain issues.

00:47Lorraine, you were right.

00:48I know.

00:49And a shortage in essential ingredients like cocoa.

00:52And let me tell you what happens now.

00:54Everybody listening to this panics.

00:57And then when they go to the grocery store and they do see candy on the shelves,

01:01they hoard it.

01:02And then that, in turn, creates a whole other demand in itself.

01:10Just like we did with toilet paper.

01:12Yeah.

01:13And tampons.

01:14The CEO of Hershey's, Michelle Buck, explained that they had to, quote,

01:22make tough decisions in the spring when they start producing Halloween candy.

01:27And they decided to prioritize everyday shelf availability.

01:31So there's not going to be a candy shortage in general, but they won't have that surplus

01:35that they normally do around the holidays, which is fine because that candy turns around

01:39and sells for two cents on November 1st and then it just sits in your pantry.

01:43Yeah.

01:43But that's what I said.

01:44Like, because people know this, they will, in fact, create a shortage.

01:50Yeah.

01:51Consumers don't need to worry about empty shelves.

01:54We'll still be able to enjoy our holiday Hershey's favorites this Halloween.

01:57Don't freak out.

01:58But those treats just may be dressed up in everyday packaging versus the Halloween-inspired

02:04or seasonal design.
