00:00I got caught in a really, really awkward situation yesterday, and I had to go pick up some paperwork for one of my son's schools next year.
00:11Okay.
00:12And one of their doctors had to fill out the form.
00:16So I get in the elevator to go up to see the doctor, and luckily I don't have my kids with me because it's just like, hey, you get to sign this paperwork and I can get out of here.
00:25Because as I get on the elevator, I exchange what I thought would be pleasantries with the person standing on the elevator who was also in scrubs.
00:37Figured somebody who works there, like, no big deal.
00:40And the girl is looking down at a piece of paper.
00:44And I was like, hey, how's your day?
00:46You know, getting on.
00:47Good to you, Miss Social.
00:48I know.
00:48I don't even know how, like, I sparked the conversation.
00:51But, you know, when you're getting on, hey, how you doing?
00:53Kind of thing.
00:54Yeah.
00:55And she said, well, I've had better days.
00:59This is my last paycheck.
01:00And I look over and she's, in fact, holding the piece of paper she's holding as a paycheck.
01:06And I'm like, oh, I'm so sorry.
01:09She proceeds to tell me everything wrong with the place that she just got fired from.
01:18And it was in close proximity to the doctor that I was going to.
01:23So, wait, she worked for that doctor?
01:26Oh.
01:27I didn't want to say that, but yeah, she did.
01:29And, like, she proceeds to tell me everything that she hated about working there, the staff, the actual doctor that I'm going to see.
01:40So she was leaving with you and she just got fired?
01:42Yeah.
01:43They gave her her last check and she was sent on her way.
01:46So, most doctor's office are two or three floors.
01:48So, on the two floor, three floor ride in the elevator, she just sat there and badmouthed the doctor the whole time?
01:53Well, you don't blame her.
01:54She just got fired.
01:55Well, so I'm like, I'm going up and she came down and now she's going back up with me.
02:01Oh, wait a minute.
02:02You were getting on to go up and she came down?
02:04Yes.
02:05Oh, that's weird.
02:07Well, so, obviously, I'm sure she forgot something, but I'm sitting there thinking, well, this is going to be the most awkward thing in the world.
02:13Oh, this is awesome.
02:13Yes.
02:14She's going up to let them have it.
02:16No, she didn't let them have it.
02:17So, we get off the elevator and I hold the door for her because I'm like, I need to see what happens next.
02:24And she just got off and I guess she did forget something because she just went up to the desk and they handed her something and she got back on the elevator.
02:31But I was like, am I in the twilight zone right now?
02:37That's what I felt like yesterday.
02:38I was like, why did I exchange pleasantries with this person?
02:41Like, that just taught me.
02:42But you didn't know.
02:43I know.
02:43I tried to be so nice to everyone.
02:45I remember when I was working at a radio station called Z100 in New York years ago, I was part of the, like, when Elvis Duran first started his show.
02:54And so, this was like in 1996 and I got on the elevator and I was just so happy to be in radio.
03:00And I was going down for, like, lunch and one of the part-time DJs got in the elevator and was bad-mouthing the program director about how bad he was, how much of a crappy place this is.
03:12And he looks over at me.
03:13He didn't know me.
03:13He looks over at me.
03:14He goes, if you're trying to get into radio, I wouldn't do it.
03:16He's like, you're better off hanging.
03:17He goes, you're better off putting piano wire around your toes and hanging yourself from the Empire State Building.
03:22I'll never forget it.
03:23Oh, my gosh.
03:23Than working at this crappy place.
03:24His name was Jojo.
03:25I think he ended up somewhere.
03:27I think he did okay.
03:28Yeah.
03:28But he was mad about something.
03:29And that's so awkward when you're next to someone.
03:31It's so awkward.
03:32And then I just kept thinking about, like, when you quit and you have to go back for something.
03:38Like, the whole day, I just laughed to myself because I was like, oh, it was probably, like,
03:43a really nasty exchange as she left it.
03:46Then she didn't go back to get whatever she had forgotten.
03:48That's the worst.
03:49That's the worst.
03:50And you'll never see me again.
03:51Right.
03:52Ten seconds later.
03:53Bing.
03:53Hey.
03:54I forgot my bag.
03:55Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
