00:00Was there a Top Gun ride at Carowinds that is no longer there? Rocky!
00:04Well, back in, uh, back in 93, um, the Carowinds and the park and a lot of the other parks in the same kind of, uh, group were, uh, had the name change to Paramount's Carowinds, like Paramount Pictures.
00:17Oh.
00:19Yep, so Paramount Pictures had, of course, a lot of famous movies, and, um, you know, this was their competition to, uh, you know, other theme parks that have movie-themed rides.
00:27And, um, so, originally, I mean, Top Gun, when Top Gun came out in 99, uh, it was like a $10 million roller coaster.
00:35We were really excited. Um, shoot, I was in middle school, and it was the best thing going.
00:39Wow. Me, you just showed me a picture. That looked so cool.
00:42These are pictures that Rocky sent me.
00:44Yeah, yeah, so, um, in, uh, in 94, they created the Hurler, um, and then around it was Wayne's World.
00:53So, the whole back corner, where the Hurler is, and all around it, was themed like Wayne's World.
00:59I mean, when you're riding, uh, when you're in the line, they had videos, like, showing Wayne and Garth, they, like, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, they did a whole film thing where they were just waiting.
01:08Dang it.
01:08It pretty much looks like the first Islands of Adventure.
01:13Dude.
01:14In Orlando.
01:15This is awesome.
01:16There was a Stan Makita's restaurant, or, yeah, you know, he's a very famous hockey player, and look, there's a giant Stan Makita.
01:25I mean, why do I not know this?
01:27I've lived in this city for so long, and now the Top Gun ride, it's still there, it's just, what's the Top Gun ride now, Rocky?
01:35It's called Afterburn.
01:37Afterburn, okay.
01:38It's called Afterburn.
01:39It's that, it's that, uh, uh, gray and blue coaster, they kept the same color, the paint refresh, and, um, the Hurler's still there, of course.
01:48There was a whole Nickelodeon, um, section, they had this cool, it's called the Flying Super Saturator, where you could dump water onto gas waiting down below, and they had, like, water bazookas that they could shoot at you.
02:00Oh, that's awesome.
02:01What's with the Stan Makita restaurant?
02:03What does that have to do with anything?
02:05So, Stan Makita's is a restaurant in Wayne's World.
02:08Oh, gotcha, that's the connection, okay.
02:12Cool, dude.
02:13And, yeah, so, and there was a Scooby-Doo ride, there was a Scooby-Doo roller coaster, I mean, there was a lot that changed, but, uh.
02:20That's awesome, dude.
02:21Well, so many people sent us messages yesterday, and people are texting us right now, reminiscing on exactly what you're saying, Rocky, how Carowinds used to be Paramount Pictures Carowinds.
02:30That's so weird.
02:31And then it changed and just became Carowinds.
