00:00The V8 Supercar Championship is the most competitive motor racing you'll find anywhere in the world.
00:14Where else will you find 25 cars separated by less than a second?
00:19When you miss out, you miss out by this much.
00:23When it's this close, this tight and this tough, the moment you get it right...
00:28...and the planets align at just the right moment.
00:31There's simply nothing better.
00:39Victory in this championship can mark one hell of a comeback.
00:42The last time we saw him in 2013, he was all busted up at Philip Harlan.
00:47He gets the win.
00:49When you race to win, it doesn't always go to plan.
00:52Look at this, up the front!
00:54There's contact!
00:56But in victory, there's never any regrets.
00:59Jamie Winkup takes the chicken flower.
01:01For the situation, guys, obviously the movement's well and truly on.
01:05Victory is the perfect way to fight back.
01:07Craig Lowndes, what a drive this has been.
01:10The smiling assassin gets angry and gets even.
01:14Victory can sometimes take a little longer than you'd hoped.
01:18And Lee Holtzworth drives into the history books.
01:23Victory at home.
01:24It doesn't get any better.
01:26Fantastic performance, Shane Van Gisbergen.
01:29Winner on home turf.
01:31Victory can lift a weight off your shoulders.
01:34And make you believe that this might just be your year.
01:37Frosty's a fighter in the championship battle now.
01:40Victory is what brings us back.
01:42Time and time again.
01:43It's why we race.
01:44And there's nowhere else we'd rather race.
01:45Than right here.
01:46Well, we are in Western Australia.
01:59The Perth 400, the Superspring portion of the V8 Supercar Championship continues.
02:02Of course, the capital of Western Australia.
02:05On the banks of the Swan River.
02:06And some 40 kilometres, 40 minutes or so north.
02:09Barbagato Raceway.
02:10One of the most historic venues in the history of the Australian Touring Car Championship.
02:14And the V8 Supercars Championship.
02:16It's their one chance of the year to see our championship over this side of the country.
02:20Pit Lane is full of cars.
02:22We've got Pit Lane reporters everywhere.
02:23Let's check in with Mark Barretta.
02:25Hey, noons.
02:26I tell you what.
02:27Whatever happens this weekend, you can be sure that a lot of the action is going to come out of these four garages.
02:31Our championship leader, Mark Witterbottom.
02:34A 107 point lead in the championship.
02:37FPR led the championship at this time last year.
02:40But weren't able to go on with it.
02:41And then you see Chas Mostard here, the up and comer.
02:44But over here is where it really gets exciting.
02:46The Red Bull guys are buoyed by the news that they have re-signed with Holden.
02:50They've also done a lot during the week to boost themselves.
02:53Since Pukekohe, they've brought more people, more personnel into the garage here.
02:57And they are raring to go.
02:59You just get the feeling that there is such a focus here with the Red Bull team at the moment.
03:03They really want to get back to the top of the championship.
03:05Craig in second.
03:06Jamie in sixth.
03:07They're looking to be the big improvers this weekend.
03:10Yeah, Barrettes.
03:11Well, it's Garth the Tander's home event.
03:13And this year he is soaking up all the attention because he's the only local Perth boy on the grid.
03:18And it was announced just a couple of days ago that Garth Tander has re-signed with the Holden racing team until the end of 2016.
03:27He said loyalty pays off.
03:292016 will see him rack up 19 years as a Holden driver.
03:34It's been a tough start to the season for Garth.
03:36But at this circuit, he has two pole positions.
03:38And in 2007, he clean swept the entire weekend.
03:42He'll be looking to celebrate this re-signing with some good, solid results here in front of a home crowd.
03:47Thanks, Rihanna.
03:48If I can bring it now back down onto the pit lane for these short bursts, exciting qualifying sessions.
03:53A lot of chat about parity.
03:55Let me tell you, we have got it right in this category.
03:57Saw it at Pukekohe just a couple of weeks ago.
04:00The whole field covered by 0.58.
04:03That of a second in a qualifying session.
04:06Yesterday, practice here at Barbagelo Raceway, 20 cars, 0.5 of a second.
04:11Expect to see it again.
04:12But for me, the really interesting thing will be beyond these qualifying sessions, this afternoon's race.
04:18Because of the tyre degradation, which is the rate that the tyre drops off in performance, is higher here than everyone expected.
04:25I actually think, well I know, I've been talking to some teams, we're going to see pit stops in today's short races.
04:30We haven't seen that.
04:31And I think no one's going to know exactly what to do in race one.
04:34Everyone will know what to do in race two.
04:36That's going to be the fascinating one to watch.
04:38Thanks, Larka.
04:39There you have it, Mark Larka, Mark Beretta and Perth Zone.
04:41Rihanna Crean in the lane for us this weekend.
04:43Mark Scaife is alongside me in the commentary box.
04:45Let's run you through who's who in the zoo for the Perth 400.
04:48And no changes this weekend.
04:50The only real change is David Wall, car 17.
04:53The Wilson Security Ford from Dick Johnson Racing.
04:55He has a brand new car to replace the one crashed at Pukekohe in that incident with Chas Mostert.
05:00You can also see there, Nurns, Will Davison.
05:02A lot of people would remember him in factory forwards over the last couple of years.
05:06He's now with Erebus Racing.
05:07Scott Pye and David Wall in the DJR cars with Wilson Security backing.
05:12Jack Perkins in one of the factory prepared Falcons from FPR.
05:16Milestone weekend for Jack too.
05:18His 50th round starting the championship.
05:20Scott McLaughlin, the Volvo, remember.
05:22He's on a bit of a streak.
05:23Two poles in a row to finish off the weekend at Pukekohe.
05:26Still looking for his first race win in the championship.
05:28And, of course, Craig Lowndes is just one win away from equalling a certain fella for most wins at a certain track in the championship.
05:35Here's where we are.
05:36The fifth event of the 2014 championship.
05:38Three races this weekend.
05:39Here's the track.
05:40Looks really simple on paper, but it doesn't show you here how it chews the tyres.
05:44It doesn't noons and it's 2.4k, but it's a very, very low grip surface.
05:49The cars slide the whole time.
05:52About 255k is the fastest at the end of the main straight.
05:56The two sectors that are very important, Sector 1 and Sector 2.
06:00The last sector in green is a very short sector.
06:03Only one corner to finish the lap.
06:05So, this will be an unbelievably wild session.
06:10Both these qualifying sessions will be because qualifying here, we say it all the time about qualifying being important.
06:16But for a place like this, where the tyre degradation is so severe and being at the front of the field so important, it doesn't get any wilder than this.
06:25Short, sharp burst qualifying.
06:27Two 10-minute sessions for today's two races in the super sprint format.
06:31This is David Reynolds, the Bottolo Ford from Rod Nash Racing.
06:35Soft tyre weekend too, we should point out.
06:37So, soft rubber right throughout the course of today and tomorrow.
06:40So, tyre management comes into it.
06:41But these 10-minute sessions have shaped the order this year.
06:44Everyone's not got the rhythm quite yet because they've almost been used to 15 and 20-minute sessions.
06:50More time than they knew what to do with before.
06:52Now they've just got to go out there and go bang, lap time.
06:54They certainly do.
06:55And yesterday, the fastest car was Fabian Coulthard with a 55.74.
06:59The fastest car so far is Russell Engel with a 55.94.
07:04Russell did a 55.93 yesterday.
07:07So, he's gone out and been able to replicate that time straight away with only six minutes left in this session.
07:14So, you'll find they'll go and do a marker time.
07:17So, you can see them now trying to put one really good lap time in.
07:20Will Davison up to number two.
07:21McLaughlin into number three.
07:23Reynolds four and Tim Slade five.
07:26And this is one of the issues that we've seen in the past here at Barbagallo.
07:29That blind run over the top of the hill to turn seven.
07:32All the drivers have been told, you've got to be on it.
07:34You can't be getting in the way and running slow down there.
07:36Remember, we've seen so many close calls there over the years with cars nearly making contact.
07:41But it's Engel on top.
07:43Here's Chas Mostert.
07:44Nice run at Pukekohe to put this car on the podium a couple of times.
07:48It's 12 months this weekend since he debuted.
07:50Remember, he first turned up here driving for Dick Johnson's team.
07:53He's very much now full time in the Pepsi Max crew car and starting to come together in his first full year in the factory car.
08:01He's doing a very good job.
08:02He's obviously very, very skillful, Nerns.
08:05He's got good car control.
08:07And he's, I think, started to bond up reasonably well with Frosty in terms of what they want from the car.
08:10Which, for both those factory drivers, very important for that to happen.
08:14Fabian Coulthard now on a very good lap.
08:16First sector, fastest so far.
08:18Jamie Winkup in the meantime has gone to P2 with a 56.01.
08:22So Engel still leads with a 55.89.
08:26Slightly better than the previous time that I explained a little while ago.
08:31So here's Fabian.
08:33Behind is his teammate, Jason Bright.
08:37Bright almost exactly the same time at the second sector as Fabian Coulthard.
08:41So let's see what this does.
08:43Fabian 55.81.
08:44Great job.
08:45And Bright a 55.95 to P3.
08:49So Fabian Coulthard to the top.
08:51Brad Jones Racing have been strong performers here in previous years.
08:55They're the only team to pinch a win from AAA and FPR for the last six years.
08:59We'll take a break.
09:00More qualifying after the break.
09:01Michael Caruso is out there having a go too.
09:03Pit lane's empty.
09:04Cars are on their own.
09:05Qualifying for race 14 at the Perth 400.
09:06Fabian Coulthard is the man they're chasing.
09:07Fast man in Friday practice.
09:08But you get a feeling, Mark Skate, that this man is going to respond this weekend.
09:24He's the qualifying benchmark nerds.
09:26You would expect him to do that.
09:28He's been so good over the last four or five years of just putting this one lap together.
09:33But there's a lot of maneuvering.
09:35There's a lot of strategy amongst the guys in the field at the moment about getting the front tires to come in with the rear tire.
09:42So some of the guys, Scott McLaughlin, while we're in the break, he actually did a warm up lap basically at two thirds pace.
09:49So he's trying to get the front tire up without using any of the rear tire grip.
09:53And you've got to get the phasing.
09:55You've got to get the front tire to have the response and the braking grip when you turn the car at the corner.
10:00And then you've got to not use too much of the rear tire.
10:03By the time you finish the lap here at Kolb, it's got to come out of there straight.
10:07So that's the key to this lap.
10:09And so far, over the years, Winkup has been the master.
10:13Second sector here comes up on the run down the hill.
10:15He's just over a tenth clear of that time of Fabian Coulthard, which is the benchmark.
10:19One minute left on the clock.
10:20The lap time's less than a minute.
10:22He's over that curb at turn seven.
10:23But he does put in the fastest.
10:2555.66 Reynolds.
10:27Now Ingle goes to the top.
10:2955.57.
10:31Fantastic.
10:32Lownds to the top.
10:3355.47.
10:34Not very many times that Ingle bumps Winkup from the top row.
10:37No.
10:38Now Winterbottom also.
10:39And so Mostert.
10:40So both NPR cars.
10:41Third and fourth.
10:42Fabian Coulthard now in the fastest first sector.
10:45So this is going to really heat up with only 35 seconds to go.
10:49We've seen a lot of guys use massive curve at the last corner.
10:53Van Gisbergen now.
10:54Holdsworth third.
10:55Great job.
10:56That is a great job, Lee Holdsworth.
10:58McLaughlin to the top.
10:59Yes.
11:00The Volvo going for three poles in a row.
11:02He's got lands by a hundredth.
11:05There's nothing in it.
11:06There's 17 seconds.
11:07So some of these guys will get another lap.
11:09Coulthard goes to fourth.
11:11But he does get one more chance.
11:13But is he taking the best from the rubber?
11:14Yes.
11:15So 55.57.
11:16He may have hurt them a bit to get to that noon.
11:19So I would think now that McLaughlin looks pretty strong.
11:22Just got to look at the other cars.
11:24Just have a look now.
11:25Who's still there?
11:26Bright's out there.
11:27He's probably the only guy that may jump up.
11:30No, no good.
11:3155.73.
11:32That is an excellent run.
11:33Here's one of the HRT cars.
11:34Courtney to finish his lap.
11:35Where does that put Courtney?
11:3616.
11:37Yeah, pretty good mate.
11:38Great job, Scott McLaughlin.
11:39Three in a row for Volvo.
11:40Wow.
11:41Unbelievable stuff in there.
11:42First year back in.
11:43Look at that margin.
11:44100th to Craig Lowndes.
11:45Start on the front row.
11:46Russell Ingle has qualified third.
11:47Whoa.
11:48That could be dangerous.
11:49Best since Dinosaur times.
11:50Yeah.
11:51Favey Coulthard riding there too.
11:52Walkinshaw racing struggling.
11:53Nissan struggling as well at this point in time.
11:54Shane Van Gisbergen.
11:5519th in the VIP Pet Foods car.
11:56David Wall, the brand new car.
11:5721st.
11:58And two famous names.
11:59Moffett and Perkins round out the field in.
12:00Armoural.
12:01Yeah.
12:02Yeah.
12:03Yeah.
12:04Yeah.
12:05Yeah.
12:06Yeah.
12:07Yeah.
12:08Yeah.
12:09Yeah.
12:10Yeah.
12:11Yeah.
12:12Yeah.
12:13Matt Farkens round out the field in.
12:14Armoural qualify.
12:16A short, sharp session.
12:17We get to do it all over again.
12:18When we come back to Barbagel.
12:19.
12:20.
12:26Well he's making a habit of this.
12:27Scott McLaughlin is on Armoural Pole position for race 14 of the championship.
12:31It's three in a row.
12:32The Volvo S60s hooked up.
12:34We know it's fast over one lap.
12:36But it's got to be fast over more than one lap this afternoon.
12:38But there it is.
12:39Armoural pole.
12:40Another check for Scotty back.
12:41He'll be down at the bank during the course of the week
12:43to put that one in the account
12:45as we get ready for qualifying for race 15.
12:48So, Mark, another 10 minutes, and we do it all over again.
12:51Exactly, and he has just been the benchmark guy, hasn't he?
12:53In the recent form and the ability to get that front tyre grip,
12:57he said to Richard Holwell on the radio,
12:59it felt like it had better front initial response,
13:02so that's where he got the lap time from.
13:04And when you get a yield like that,
13:06then the driver's got to pick it up.
13:08You've got to make the best use of that grip at the time,
13:10which obviously Scott's been doing.
13:11Yeah, to add to that scapegoat,
13:13I mean, a lot of chat about parity and what have you,
13:15but I think we've just got to stop and take stock here.
13:17This is Wanneroo Raceway, I mean, Barbagelo Raceway.
13:21It's not a power circuit.
13:22We've seen Jason Bright here fast several years ago
13:24on seven cylinders when he lost the plug lead.
13:27It's not a power circuit.
13:28It doesn't have big straight line speed,
13:30so it's not so much an aero circuit.
13:32It doesn't have big, long, fast corners.
13:34So I just think what we're seeing here is great parity.
13:37I said it earlier, between the marks.
13:39And with Scotty McLaughlin,
13:40you've got a particularly good talent there
13:42that is making that brand look particularly good.
13:45Yeah, good point.
13:46And that's absolutely right.
13:47He's been driving the car well.
13:48He was very competitive last year,
13:49remembering the GRM Commodores of the new era car.
13:53And this form has continued.
13:55He's a very gifted young man.
13:57He's doing a very good job.
13:58Jamie Winkup, Neil Compton, just made the point
14:00that he is 0.3 of a second slower than last year.
14:05So he did a 55.3 to be P1 for the first race in 2013.
14:11He's 3 tenths slower to put him back where he is.
14:13So that actually explains the form slump of Winkup
14:17in terms of his speed versus lounge.
14:18And he's 2 tenths from pole from that previous session.
14:21So here's his next chance.
14:22He's been the master of qualifying at Barbagallo
14:25in recent years with the short, sharp sessions and the like.
14:29He's got more poles than anyone now
14:30in the history of the championship at this place.
14:32And it's so weird.
14:34We don't normally see Red Bull Racing Australia
14:36or in their previous iterations.
14:38OK, they have a bad weekend.
14:39It happens to everyone.
14:40But two in a row where they're not up there.
14:42Winkup hasn't had a podium at Pukekohe or at Winton.
14:46I know.
14:46Wow.
14:47It's extraordinary, isn't it?
14:49The other thing we've got to cover off is our mate, Krompo,
14:51who's struggling with his voice at the moment.
14:53He is here with us.
14:54He's in spirit.
14:55He's in spirit.
14:56He's doing a little bit of sign work
14:58and a bit of coding work for us.
14:59But he's struggling with his voice.
15:03And hopefully he'll be back with us again tomorrow.
15:05His sign language is very strong, though.
15:07Well, he's doing little bits and pieces for us.
15:08He takes the good parts like he normally does.
15:11You know, he grabs the little highlights he likes
15:13and then he grabs those.
15:14How good is it at the dinner table?
15:17Fantastic.
15:18I know.
15:18It's good, isn't it?
15:19Scaife, you're just talking about the ability
15:21to get that tyre temperature equalised front to rear around here.
15:23How critical that is.
15:24Well, Garth Tander, the lone soldier,
15:26he did just come through the pit lane on his own,
15:29left his hot front tyres on or warm front tyres,
15:31put fresh rears in, mate, so you can explain that.
15:34Well, that's a goodie
15:35because that's a very clever policy
15:37of making the front and tyre rear come in together.
15:40If you can't do it when you go out on the track
15:42and do it the way that Scott McLaughlin did it
15:44in the previous session,
15:46then that's the other way of going about it.
15:47But meanwhile, Larco,
15:49Craig Lowndes has done a 55-29.
15:52That is a very impressive lap
15:53for the first lap of this next sector of qualifying.
15:56And straightaway, Scaife,
15:57it's nearly two-tenths faster
15:58than what we just saw in qualifying for race 14.
16:01So Lowndes to the top.
16:02Ingalls backing it up.
16:03He's second again on this first flyer.
16:05Winterbottom, Davison, this will all shift,
16:07but there's not much time.
16:09Ten minutes in a lap that's just under one minute
16:11and you want to come in and have another dip at it,
16:13maybe throw some tyres at it.
16:14Here's Craig Lowndes.
16:15He's on top.
16:16He's got this benchmark that they want.
16:1755.29.
16:19Roland Dane, team boss of Red Bull Racing Australia,
16:22who after the last event said,
16:23no leave.
16:24We are head down, backside up.
16:26We need to get into this.
16:28And this will be the litmus test
16:30of just how much work that they've done.
16:31McLaughlin, personal best to the first two sectors.
16:34Remember, green is fastest of all.
16:37This one, though, is hooked up.
16:38He could get four poles in a row.
16:40He jumps to second with that first flyer.
16:43Good lap.
16:4455.38.
16:46Not quite good enough.
16:47Ingle with a 55.49.
16:49Winterbottom, Davison, Mostert.
16:50Courtney, better job for James.
16:53He was just saying with his engineers
16:55that he was running into turn four too far.
16:59And Winterbottom up to fourth there with that 55.52.
17:03So that's a good job by Mark Winterbottom.
17:05He said his qualifying performances
17:07haven't been good enough,
17:08but their race pace is very good.
17:10Had a chat to Grant McPherson,
17:11his engineer, this morning.
17:12And that's exactly what he said.
17:14We're not far away in qualifying,
17:15but our race, I said,
17:16you'd rather it be that way, wouldn't you,
17:18than the other way around?
17:18He said, oh, yeah, absolutely.
17:19But we want to get up there.
17:21They're competitive.
17:21There's great flow at the moment of FPR.
17:23Great confidence.
17:24And that's only going to help it.
17:26Of course, really,
17:27they've got all their eggs
17:27in the Winterbottom championship basket.
17:30Chas Mostert's very much a rookie number two.
17:32Let's have a look here.
17:33Slow-moving car.
17:34Scott Pye.
17:36Jason Bright trying to find his way through.
17:38And that's what I spoke about earlier on.
17:40And can happen around here.
17:42Short track.
17:43A few boats dawdling around.
17:44Can easily trip over one another.
17:46It's armour all qualified.
17:47Race 15 of the championship.
17:49Craig Lowndes is the man they're chasing.
17:51Team Winterbottom is what she got to.
17:52So, Scott McLaughlin in the Volvo.
17:54Currently second.
18:01Headlane empty and qualifying.
18:02About to get really tight for armour all qualified here at Barbagallo.
18:05Larco, you're watching them all head out.
18:07This is about to get good.
18:08Well, I went down this end to where Russell Ingalls pit was, mate.
18:10I'm just thoroughly impressed with what he's done this weekend.
18:13He was quick here yesterday.
18:14Quick in the first quali.
18:15And I reckon a lot of that's to do with this bloke here.
18:17Joe Sasso, his engineer,
18:18who's not only a great engineer,
18:19he's a ripping bloke as well.
18:20Does a good job.
18:21And when you get a guy like Russell,
18:22he's been around a few years.
18:24You need someone that can work with him.
18:26And these guys, as a pair,
18:27work very well, very, very well together.
18:29Yeah, Joe Sasso worked a long time for us at Holden Racing Team.
18:33He's a very well-credentialed young man.
18:36He's got a very good understanding of racing.
18:37He will be very good for that team, Barrett.
18:40Well, very confident Craig Lowndes out of the car now,
18:42just watching on from inside the garage,
18:44but exactly where they want to be now.
18:45He's just got to watch what happens from here on in, guys.
18:47Yes, well, they're nervous times, those ones, Barrett's,
18:52when you've decided that you've used as many tyres as you need to,
18:55and that's as fast as you can go.
18:56And you park it up like that with a 5529.
18:59You've got a .08 gap to McLaughlin.
19:02Well, you can't do much about it.
19:03You've just got to sit there and cross your fingers
19:05and hope that that time is good enough to keep the field at bay.
19:09And as this circuit cleans up more, there's more rubber down,
19:13at the end of this session, it will definitely be faster.
19:16So, as you can see now, guys, lights on and everybody into it
19:20with only a minute 30 remaining.
19:22Garth Tander here, the only hometown hero from Western Australia.
19:26He has struggled in qualifying.
19:28He's 13th at the moment.
19:28He hasn't had a front row since the end of 2012.
19:31And for a guy who's built a career on being a great qualifier,
19:34that's a really, really long drought.
19:36They're chasing Lowndes, 5529, just over a minute to go.
19:40Erebus are backing it up.
19:42Both the Mercs are in the top 10 again at the moment.
19:45Winkup went to third with a 5541 on the previous lap.
19:49We saw him come down and finish that lap off.
19:52So that was a good job.
19:53Engel still remains in fourth.
19:55Winterbottom in fifth.
19:57And Engel, he's not far away.
20:00He's only .07 away.
20:02Oh, he's run it wide. He's run it wide.
20:05That may hurt him.
20:06Got to third.
20:07Good job. 5540.
20:08That's got him just up.
20:10Nick Burkett straight off the road in the background.
20:13He makes it through the sand, though, importantly.
20:17And pops out the other side.
20:1830 seconds to go, but he'll have a slow run on the pit straight anyway.
20:21And a car full of sand.
20:23Yeah, he'll be over now, won't he?
20:24So that's on board there with Courtney.
20:27So right at the pointy end.
20:29Lowndes remains at the top.
20:30McLaughlin, Engel, Winkup, Winterbottom, Davison, Courtney, Moston, Holdsworth, and Coulthard.
20:36That's your top 10.
20:37And McLaughlin only needs to find 800s.
20:44That's all it is between he and the other side of the front row of the grid.
20:47He's got in the ballpark at the first sector.
20:50Second sector comes up here on the run to turn seven.
20:53No way.
20:54No.
20:55No, he can't do it.
20:56It's over and out.
20:56So, I mean, it's still front row.
20:58It's not bad news completely for the Wolverine Volvo crew.
21:03That's a very good job by Craig Lowndes.
21:06It's a very important time in this championship.
21:08We've seen a couple of bad rounds from a strong leadership position.
21:13And Barrettes, great job, Craig Lowndes.
21:16Oh, Staphy, just fantastic for his championship, Lowndes.
21:18That's great.
21:19Another pole.
21:19Well done.
21:20Yeah, look, it's a bit of a gamble.
21:22We opted, obviously, we went out on a fresh set straight away.
21:25Normally, we go out on a used tyre and then build up.
21:28But we thought with the tyre temp and the brake temp and everything else,
21:31they're just to go out there and try and do a good lap time.
21:33And we did that.
21:33But, of course, then it was fingers crossed.
21:35But, of course, then, you know, hoping that we wouldn't fall too far down, if any.
21:39Of course, then we've got a brand new set of tyres now to play with.
21:42Awesome, Lads.
21:42You well done, mate.
21:43Good to see you up the front.
21:43Yeah, it is.
21:44Thanks.
21:46Done very nicely.
21:47Second pole of the year for Craig Lowndes.
21:49Russell Ingle, third in two sessions in a row and for the third time this year.
21:54So, he's put himself in the mix.
21:55Wink-ups back up there.
21:56Winterbottom and Davison, former teammates, again on the same row of the grid.
22:00That could be interesting.
22:00Well done, Robert Darwin.
22:0213th in the second of Olvos.
22:03But Gisbergen struggling.
22:04He's still back in 20th.
22:06And the Nissans of Moffat and Todd Kelly round out the field in Armoural,
22:09qualifying for race 15.
22:10It's going to be a big night of footy on seven.
22:20Armoural pole position winner in that last one, Craig Lowndes.
22:23Well done.
22:24Career pole 34, the second for him this year.
22:26The first one was back in Adelaide.
22:28It was the fastest lap time of the weekend, by the way.
22:30And the sixth this year for Red Bull Racing Australia.
22:34Great start to the weekend for the boys in the garage.
22:36Let's go downstairs with Rihanna.
22:37Scott McGlocken, you're on fire at the moment in qualifying.
22:41You came into this event with best qualifying average of the field.
22:45Three pole positions in a row.
22:46A front row start for the second race.
22:48Your bank balance is going off the chart.
22:50Oh, yeah, sure.
22:51I'm an apprentice.
22:52But, no, seriously, it's been awesome.
22:54It's been great for the boys.
22:55Now we've just got to turn that qualifying speed into race speed.
22:58And I think we'll learn some stuff in Pookie that will help.
23:01But we just don't know.
23:01It's so hard on the tyres around here.
23:03But, hey, whatever happens, happens.
23:06The car's fast, and I'm so glad to be at the front.
23:08Looking forward to a big race this afternoon.
23:09Yeah, for sure.
23:10Thanks.
23:11Hey, Russell, I can't congratulate you enough, mate.
23:13Seriously, both qualifying efforts, really first class.
23:17What's changed, mate?
23:17Why are you so quick here this weekend?
23:19Because you look like you're doing it on your ear.
23:21No, mate, the car's lit.
23:22Like, it feels really good.
23:24I mean, and the rewarding thing, we didn't roll it out the truck, wouldn't you?
23:27It was a bit of a handful out the gate.
23:29But we've just sort of been sneaking away at it.
23:30And, mate, it's just how I like it, you know.
23:34You know, I always liken it to your wife, you know.
23:36It takes a few years to get to like what she likes and what it doesn't like.
23:40Your car and your team are a bit like that, mate.
23:42So the relationship's growing.
23:45Good stuff, mate.
23:46The car's lit.
23:46That's a term you haven't said since you were a teenager, eh?
23:48So well done.
23:49Yeah, cool, man.
23:50We'll start with some great news for the Townsville event in July.
23:57Naming Right's sponsor has been added there.
23:58It's now known as the Castro Townsville 500.
24:02Also confirmed, big concert on the Saturday night with Jessica Mowboy and Vanessa Amorosi
24:06to perform under the Supertop, which will hold 8,000 fans undercover.
24:11That's fantastic.
24:11Looking forward to some of that North Queensland start in July.
24:14Tickets on sale via tickettech.com.au.
24:16Details on screen.
24:17Some endurance driver news, too.
24:19Ford Performance Racing have confirmed one of the most openly kept secrets in pit lane.
24:24Steve Owen will pair with Mark Winterbottom in the number five car for the Enduro Cup.
24:28He's in his second year of a deal with FPR.
24:30Remember that he co-drived car six with Will Davison last year.
24:33He's looking to go one better than Bathurst in 2010.
24:35He paired up with Jamie Winkup and they finished second in that one-two finish for that team.
24:40Speaking of Winterbottom, would you believe me if I told you he's not entered a championship
24:44event as the points leader since August 2008 at Winton?
24:48It's quite unbelievable.
24:50Before the Frosty fans start hating on me, he did lead the championship partway through
24:542012 at the City Motorsport Park round, but he didn't lead the points at the end of that
24:58weekend.
24:59So six years is a very long time.
25:01This might just be Frosty's year.
25:03Confirmation through on Wednesday this week too, Garth Tander has signed a multi-year contract
25:08to stay with the Holden Racing Team.
25:10We told you in Tasmania back in March that it was in the works and it was on the way,
25:14so the announcement coming in the week of his home event here in Western Australia makes
25:17total sense.
25:18It's been a tough part of the year so far for Garth Tander.
25:20He's 14th in the points coming into this weekend.
25:23I'll have some more news for you tomorrow, including some more Enduro driver news from Nissan
25:27Motorsport.
25:28Good on you, thanks, Noons.
25:32Now, what about this one for an offer?
