00:00We know the hard work and sacrifice they go through serving our community and keeping us safe.
00:06Let's honor another first responder on 99.5 QYK.
00:12Well, we love honoring our military members in our community, and today we have Mary on the phone, who is honoring her husband, Brian.
00:18All right, Mary, we want to know about Brian. Tell us the branch that he served in and where he served.
00:23The U.S. Marine Corps, originally stationed in Kaneohe, Hawaii, and then had a tour in Desert Storm.
00:31Oh, wow.
00:32Mary, how long was he in Desert Storm?
00:35I think it was a year and a few months.
00:37Well, we are very thankful for his service. So he works at the Veterans Hospital now, right?
00:42He does. He's a nurse in the operating room.
00:44Yeah, she's continuing his service and helping out other veterans. That's great.
00:48Correct.
00:48Now, Mary, let me ask you this. I know, and I always say this because my dad's a veteran,
00:52and I know that, you know, when you have veterans talk to other veterans, there's a different bond there, obviously,
00:57because they've experienced a lot of the same things. So what's that like for him as a nurse?
01:01Well, it's funny that you say that because he can relate stories about veterans coming up from anesthesia
01:07that'll bring up, I don't want to say nightmares, but maybe trigger some of their PTSD.
01:12Yeah.
01:12Where they feel like they've got to fight when they're coming out of anesthesia.
01:17But him being there for them, he knows the right words to say, like you said, to calm them down and understand.
01:26I think the way he described it to me is that, don't worry, I have your back.
01:30Wow.
01:31Well, and I know that takes a lot of understanding on your part as well, Mary, because, you know,
01:34you obviously want to be there. You're his wife.
01:36But you obviously know, as you're speaking right now, that there's some things that, you know,
01:40he can deal with better with other veterans versus, you know, maybe even his own wife.
01:45Oh, I agree. There are some things that he feels comfortable talking with his, you know,
01:49comrades in arms, so to speak, that he doesn't talk about with me or his family, for instance.
01:55All right. Well, let's talk about Mary and Brian, though.
01:57What does Mary and Brian like to do when you guys are just having fun and hanging out in this beautiful state of Florida?
02:03I like to say Brian likes to torture me with long hikes.
02:06Long hikes?
02:06We enjoy being on the water, fishing for sure. It's like a treasure hunt. You never know what you're going to catch.
02:13Yep.
02:15And just being out in nature, basically.
02:17I love it. When you marry a Marine, you know you're going to be out on some hikes.
02:21Absolutely.
02:22This is the truth.
02:24I love it, though, that, you know, he gets out and he's doing outdoor things and he seems like he's a lot of fun.
02:29But, man, what a great man you have for the dedication that he's had, you know, not only to our country, but also to our community.
02:37Yes, I'm extremely proud of him.
02:39I appreciate you so much, Mary, for reaching out.
02:41Brian sounds like a heck of a guy, and I just want to thank you and him, not only for his service, but now he's continuing to do his service.
02:48We know you make sacrifices as well.
02:50We'd like to do this.
02:51We want to give you a $100 Amex gift card from Tampa Premium Outlets.
02:54You guys go do something fun and maybe go down there, do a little shopping.
02:58But it is a small way for us to say thank you to you, thank you to Brian, and we appreciate you so much.
03:04Well, that is so exciting, and thank you so much.
03:06Absolutely. Thank you.
