00:00Just when you thought you're Malmachian, couldn't get any more retro.
00:03Here's your look at the NECA, this is the Elf, totally 80s, ultimate action figure.
00:30Elf crash-landed through the roof of the Tanner family garage and square into the hearts and homes of American television viewers.
00:36This short, furry, alien life form quickly surprised everyone with his urbane wit and unusual customs and habits.
00:43Well, he is back, but he's not in pog form.
00:45Before we get a closer look at the totally 80s Elf, let's take the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:49I think it would be safe by now to assume that this guy's using the same mold as both the original Elf and the born-to-rock Elf.
00:54Yeah, you'd be pretty much correct.
00:55The figure's going to stand the same at 5 1⁄4 inches in height or about 14 centimeters tall.
01:00Kind of ironic, really, that every iteration of Elf, NECA's checked the box to have the Malmachian with more clothing and not less.
01:06In the sitcom, generally, Elf was walking around without any clothing, and yet with the original release,
01:11he actually had that gear shirt that looked more like the cartoon.
01:14The born-to-rock Elf had him sporting a denim vest.
01:17Now with the new 80s, totally 80s Elf, now granted, again, all the clothing could be taken off if you really want to,
01:21the new totally 80s Elf is actually wearing an outfit that's got his own face on it that has no problem down below.
01:27Too many accessories, not enough space, no problem.
01:29Whatever you don't end up using can easily go back in the tray.
01:32Although, really, to be fair, there's a lot of cool accessories that come include with this release of Elf.
01:35I can't see myself ever really wanting to put any of them away.
01:38The only thing I would really say is I really wish that this figure could have come include with the table.
01:42I'm sure I probably could find myself a very similar size of table,
01:45because I would really like to be able to put all these things up there.
01:47Between this one and the first-released Elf, he's had quite a lot of cool accessories.
01:51The first things first, though, the figure does come include, now we were just talking about the cartoon,
01:55it does almost even look like the cartoon version of Gordon Shumway almost looks like he wants to be coming out of the TV set.
02:00Speaking of the TV set, though, this seems to be the exact same set that we got with the Nightmare and Elm Street accessory.
02:05In fact, you can remember they even had a hole in the back, you could actually hang this on the wall.
02:09In Elf's subsequent Ninja Turtle releases, the accessory packs have also included the same TV.
02:14Although, in this case, it's not lenticular.
02:15Other than just Elf really looking like he wants to jump out of the screen,
02:19there's nothing really that moves on the screen itself.
02:21It's still nice that we get ourselves an accessory like this.
02:24To go along with this, you also get yourself a gaming console.
02:27I'm not really sure what console this actually is.
02:28It kind of looks like a Super Nintendo, at least from the coloring.
02:30It does also have a cartridge.
02:32The cartridge is a little harder to make out.
02:34You can see right there.
02:35You can't remove the cartridge, which I think would have been fine if they had removed it,
02:39but then I say that I would have only ultimately lost it.
02:41It does also come include with a joystick.
02:43The joystick is not removable.
02:45Any bit of bending will only result in this snapping.
02:48You crying.
02:49And then you running up the stairs.
02:50It does have a cord that's attached to the side.
02:52Just be careful that the cord doesn't actually rip.
02:54I love to get myself a little TV set, a little TV display stand,
02:58just to have all the accessories displayed on that.
03:00With the TV, of course, you've got yourself the game console.
03:02With the radio, in fact, I actually got the radio over here from the original Elf,
03:06all these things would be ideal if you had yourself a similarly sized table.
03:10Anyways, we'll put the game console right over here, just above the TV.
03:13A little bit more of a throwback to the original 90s.
03:16Like, look at the TV.
03:17Look at the telephone here that we get also included with Elf.
03:20I'd expect this to actually be in the hand of Zack Morris,
03:22walking through Bayside.
03:23Was it Bayside?
03:24Bayside was the setting for Saved by the Bell.
03:26Talking to Screech.
03:27A.C. Slater.
03:28Yeah.
03:29Pretty cool looking.
03:30I mean, you can't really have him holding this as well.
03:32I mean, this whole time of me talking about all the accessories,
03:34Elf does technically come include with a gripping hand,
03:36so you can take yourself the phone, fit it into the hand,
03:39and it's not going to be going anywhere.
03:41I would imagine long-distance fees for him calling Melmac would probably be quite expensive.
03:45If he's trying to reach out to Ronda,
03:47hopefully Willie's not paying the telephone bill for that.
03:50I guess, well, while we're on the topic of hands,
03:52the figure does, now, on the ends of his forearms right now,
03:54he has relaxed hands.
03:55If you don't like the look of that,
03:56he does also come with pointing hands.
03:59And I'm sure we've seen these hands before.
04:01He does also come with a slightly more smaller gripping hand,
04:04good for holding the sunglasses.
04:05You can take the sunglasses and put them into his hand that way.
04:07Or you can also take the pizza slice.
04:10Some prying may be on your part, too, in order to get the grip open.
04:13You take yourself the pizza slice.
04:14I know we're kind of rushing along through the accessories,
04:17but you actually have him holding that pizza slice that way as well.
04:19So he comes with a couple of gripping hands.
04:21He comes with a wider gripping hand for the can of soda.
04:23And he comes with a slightly smaller C-clamp hand,
04:26good for, again, holding all the accessories.
04:28Now, I know we kind of just rushed through some of the things.
04:30The figure does also come included with a pair of sunglasses.
04:33Now, to look at these and to look at these,
04:35I think they're exactly the same.
04:36This was the original released elf sunglasses.
04:38These were the new elf glasses, obviously.
04:40The only thing that's different is the neck on the side.
04:42Would you call these the neck of the glasses?
04:44I don't really even know.
04:46I can't tell you, though, at least that these would be pink
04:48on the totally 80s elf.
04:49They would have been black on the original released elf.
04:52Seems to be the exact same specs, though.
04:54The figure does also come included with a pizza box.
04:57Now, you see on the front, it says fresh-ish.
05:00I don't know what really that means.
05:01How fresh is fresh-ish?
05:03It says pizza!
05:04You tried the best.
05:05Now try the rest.
05:06The box itself, I would imagine they probably would have used the same construction and blueprints
05:11as the Ninja Turtle accessory pizza box, as it opens also the exact same way.
05:16The thing I like for the attention to detail is that they actually added grease stains on the inside of it.
05:20There's grease there on the top as well.
05:22Well, that's the telling of you, that you got yourself a delicious slice of pie.
05:27Of course, you can take yourself a couple of slices of pizza.
05:30I don't think there's any cat hair on there.
05:32Even if there was cat hair, I think elf would be all fine for that.
05:35Looks like there's olives, perhaps mushrooms, sausage.
05:38I don't know.
05:39If this was my pizza, I mean, obviously, I wouldn't be ordering from Malmachian pizza, elf pizza.
05:44Mine would definitely not have olives on it.
05:46Probably may not even have green peppers.
05:49Just pepperoni.
05:49Pepperoni and usually bacon is the way I go.
05:51Sometimes I put a little red onion in there.
05:53That's delicioso.
05:55Take yourself the slices.
05:56They sit inside the tray.
05:58Again, if you had yourself like a little tabletop, yeah, also, that would be perfect to sit that on top of it.
06:03But nice little pizza box.
06:05I'm sure, again, we've seen these accessories for one way, shape, or another.
06:08Just with, obviously, a different deco on the front.
06:11The figure does also come in clue of the Rubik's Cube.
06:13How many out you?
06:14How many there are out you?
06:16How many out?
06:17How many of you out there?
06:19Woo!
06:20I'm having a hard time getting that out.
06:21How many of you out there have an easier time of solving Rubik's Cubes?
06:25I tell you when, as a kid, just between you and me, I'm just going to whisper this into your...
06:29What I used to do was I used to peel off the labels.
06:32And then I would stick them on the correct side.
06:33And then I would tell my parents, look, I solved the Rubik's Cube.
06:36They would know.
06:37I mean, clearly, they could just tell that the labels had been peeled off and had been
06:40reapplied.
06:41But I thought, as a kid, I was overly...
06:42I was being smart.
06:43I was obviously just telling my parents that I was doing one thing, when clearly I was doing
06:48something else.
06:49The Rubik's Cube doesn't actually rotate.
06:52It's basically just one molded square of plastic.
06:55I mean, technically, you could also go back to those hands that we looked at earlier.
06:58He does have a hand that's pretty much, again, good for holding the soda.
07:01Anything that's really wide.
07:02And you can also have them holding the Rubik's Cube as well.
07:08The figure also does come clear with a skateboard.
07:11Which, the skateboard, other than just having the print of Elf on the top there, I'm sure
07:15we've gotten this mold before.
07:17Maybe something for the Ninja Turtles.
07:18I feel kind of like a constant trend here.
07:21A lot of the accessories for Totally 80s Elf seem to be ones that were already used before
07:24for the Ninja Turtles.
07:26Rolling wheels are down below here.
07:27That's good to see.
07:28Again, I love the top of the deck there as well.
07:30Oh, he's speaking tech.
07:31He's speaking skateboard.
07:32On the bottom there, there's also Elf.
07:34I like the look of that as well.
07:36I guess you could technically put this also in his hand if you want to use the same hand
07:39that was good for holding the pizza slice.
07:41You could take yourself the skateboard.
07:43I'll just pry the fingers a little bit away.
07:45Take the skateboard, and yeah, you could fit into Elf's hand as well.
07:49What's left to cover?
07:50Well, how about a can of soda?
07:52Well, now, one thing that's interesting about this soda is it's called Fusco.
07:55Not that that's necessarily an interesting thing.
07:58But that the can seems to be the same shared shape as the can that we've already gotten
08:03with the original Elf.
08:04Both of them are also from the Fusco brand.
08:07This seems to be maybe like a lemon-lime flavor.
08:09This seems to be like an OG Pepsi flavor.
08:13Cans seem to be, again, identical.
08:14The top of the spout look like they haven't yet been opened.
08:17And again, like if you want to go back to those hands, what was the hand I was using?
08:20This hand right here.
08:22Take yourself.
08:22I want to make sure I grab the right Fusco.
08:24Not the Fusco over Fusco.
08:26But yeah, you can get your hand in there, get his hand on there, and you can hold the
08:30can of pop that way.
08:31Okay.
08:32All the accessories, though, out of the way.
08:34Let's literally move them all out of the way and get a closer look at Elf.
08:37Now, the one thing that's kind of interesting about this figure is, while yes, technically
08:40he is really using the same body as the original Elf.
08:42I don't think there's anything at all been changed.
08:44And for that matter, I guess you could also say, too, he's using the same body as the Born
08:48to Rock Elf.
08:48From a body's standpoint, they are identical to one another.
08:52The head sculpt on this one bears more of a resemblance to this Elf.
08:55This one clearly doesn't have the headband like the Born to Rock Elf.
08:58The thing that's kind of interesting about this Elf, though, too, if I just move these
09:01all out of the way.
09:02For starters, obviously, if you don't like the t-shirt, the t-shirt can be undone.
09:05Although with this one, there's a little more involved with the original Elf, for example.
09:10If you want to have him without the outfit, without the shirt, you basically would just undo
09:14the front of the top and just basically slide it down his arms.
09:16This version of Elf is a little bit different, and I'd probably imagine you'd have to take
09:21the arms up.
09:22I'm not going to undress Elf here, but I'd have to imagine you'd have to take the shirt
09:26off that way, take the head off clearly as well, and just take the t-shirt off.
09:30I'm sure at some point we're probably going to be getting ourselves another Elf, but again,
09:34if you kind of want more of the sitcom Elf without the clothing, I think the easier
09:37route to have gone is probably go with this figure, because the outfit, the shirt, would
09:40be a lot easier to take off.
09:41Basically, again, it's just all in Velcro.
09:43So I think what I'd like to do, I just want to throw this out as an idea to you, because
09:48this head sculpt is so close to this Elf, and clearly, again, because the Born to Rock
09:54Elf had also the bandana, this one was already different from this one because, again, it
09:58had the bandana.
09:59If to make this guy even more unique than the other two Elfs on either side of him, the
10:04thing I have planned here, and you can also do this as well for yourself, the Born to Rock
10:08Elf also had this head sculpt here.
10:10Now, while it was good for this Elf, say, for example, you didn't want to have this
10:14look for him, you basically would just take the top of his head off, I'll show you guys
10:17in a second, and you replace it with this one.
10:20Now, this one has a little more of a curl to his hair, so it's a little spikier on the
10:23top.
10:24Neither Elf from before could say that they've had that.
10:27This Elf, obviously, the totally 80s, doesn't have that.
10:30His is a little bit more of a cleaner comb-over.
10:33The original, also Elf, let's get this guy to stand here for a second.
10:36This Elf also would have done the exact same.
10:38So, with this one being a higher hair, I don't really have a purpose for it yet, because
10:42the Born to Rock Elf, I'd like to really have displayed on my shelf with the bandana.
10:46So, here's the idea that I had.
10:48Because the construction of these are exactly the same, there really isn't one, and it's
10:52not at all different from really changing out the head on this one, that one is already
10:56different than changing out the one on the Born to Rock Elf.
10:58So, all you really need to do, and you can do this for yourself as well, is just detach
11:03the head.
11:05Essentially, it's a two-half process.
11:07The bottom of his jaw, boy, that's a little unsettling.
11:10The top of the head basically just detaches by ball joint.
11:14There's a ball joint right there.
11:15There's a peghole right there.
11:16Take the one that you're not using from the Born to Rock Elf.
11:19That is to say, if you've already picked up that figure.
11:22And just essentially plug it back onto the ball joint.
11:25I want to, of course, make sure that you've got the ball joint lined up here, snapping
11:28into place.
11:29A little bit of pressure may be involved on your part.
11:31And wouldn't you know it?
11:32Wouldn't you know it?
11:33All of a sudden, now you've got yourself a different looking elf.
11:36Now, the face doesn't change at all that much, but it really is the hair that makes this
11:41one very much now different.
11:42And if, again, you're going to be rocking the 80s look, want to have a little bit of hair
11:46gel or even hairspray in the hair of Elf.
11:49I almost kind of even feel like for them to release the totally 80s elf, why they would
11:54have not chose this head sculpt instead of going it back to the original one?
11:58Because, again, like you can see the differences there.
12:00Now, again, that's only for me.
12:01If you want to choose to stick with the original head, you can by all means do that.
12:05But I think for me, I'm going to definitely just blame with this hair because to this
12:08again point, I didn't really have a use for that other head sculpt.
12:11For the rest of this body, it's going to be, again, exactly the same because of that
12:13as well.
12:14The figure's articulation is also going to stay the same.
12:17Elf's head's going to be on a ball joint.
12:18Whether you want to use this head or not, it allows the head to look up, down, back
12:22and forth as well.
12:22And I just want to make sure I've got that all the way on there.
12:25The mouth does also open and close.
12:27One thing, though, is you want to make sure that if you put like the new head on there,
12:31you just want to make sure that the mouth can still open and close.
12:33I want to make sure it's all the way on there.
12:35Yeah, it does open and close.
12:37Again, you may want to want to make sure it's just a little bit more securely on there.
12:40But yeah, the mouth does open and close.
12:41No problems there at all.
12:42The arms rotate normally, normally, all the way around.
12:46Because he now has the shirt over top of it, it's going to be making things a little bit
12:49more difficult.
12:50The figure can still pull off a T-pose.
12:52He has a swivel there at the bicep.
12:54If you actually roll up his sleeve, you'll see that Elf has a swivel right here for his
12:58bicep.
12:58But then he's got a hinge and a hinge that allows then double hinge in his elbow.
13:02Although on mine, it's a little bit tighter.
13:04The hands down below here or in the forearm area does rotate.
13:07The hands also rotate all the way around.
13:09And the upper torso is on also a ball joint, a very good generous ball joint.
13:13Legs split out easily enough.
13:15They're on ball joints.
13:16You can take the legs and move forward only by just a little bit.
13:18Clearly, there's a lot of tummy down below here.
13:20You can move it about that far forward and you can move it about that far back.
13:24Swivel at the top of the thigh.
13:25I didn't notice though with the totally 80s Elf, unlike the other two, he seems a little
13:28looser here on the top of the leg.
13:30Still, he has a single hinge down below for his knee.
13:32Allows lower leg to rotate.
13:34And he does have an ankle pivot and an ankle rocker.
13:37I guess an ankle up and down and an ankle rocker back and forth.
13:40In case you're also curious too, because he has so much sculpting on the undersoles of
13:44his feet, it does make him a little bit more, kind of having more of an issue when it comes
13:48to him standing properly.
13:49But though, NECA did think of that.
13:51She did put pegels on the bombs of his feet.
13:53So he can always use a display stand.
13:55When it comes to displaying Elf on the shelf, Elf on the shelf, I really prefer to choose
14:00to go with the head sculpt that comes include the Born to Rock Elf.
14:03Now, if that isn't your thing, I mean, obviously, let's just say you didn't get the chance
14:06to pick up the Born to Rock Elf.
14:08Obviously, you would have to beeline it back to the head sculpt that it comes stock out
14:11of the box with, which would be more close to the OG Elf.
14:14I would certainly say, though, and again, just a recommendation on my part, if you have
14:18the Born to Rock Elf, or even if you had plans to display or buy the Born to Rock Elf, use
14:24the other head sculpt.
14:24It's there.
14:25It's sitting inside the tray.
14:26What is it going to be doing anyways?
14:28If you have the other alternate top part of his head, definitely consider the idea even
14:32using it for this body or for the Totally 80s Elf, or even going back to the original
14:37Elf.
14:37That way, at least when you have all three figures displayed on the shelf, it's not
14:41just the Elf fits that separate one from the other.
14:43They have different head sculpts from one another as well.
14:45Rocking Pogs?
14:46No.
14:46Rocking Totally 80s?
14:48Yes.
14:4880s Elf has pretty much everything you would imagine if you think the nostalgia of the
14:5280s and one of the coolest decades around, from gaming consoles to retro TVs to even
14:56Rubik's Cubes.
14:57Although, as a kid, don't try to convince your parents that you've solved the Rubik's Cube
15:01when clearly they can see you've only peeled the labels off.
15:04I've met many kids now at that age that can easily solve Rubik's Cubes with their eyes
15:08closed.
15:08I still can't solve that blasted puzzle.
15:11One thing that isn't so much of a puzzle is that if you happen to have yourself the
15:14Born to Rock Elf, you can easily swap out the head sculpts as I showed you in this review.
15:18It does result, though, in what I feel to be a better looking elf head sculpt, and I
15:21almost even feel like had they already produced this anyways with the Born to Rock Elf, the
15:26logical thing I feel in my mind would be why don't they just have used that head
15:30for totally 80s elf, so that if you already have the OG elf and you decide to pick this
15:35one up, you'd be surprised right away to find that if you didn't pick up the Born to
15:39Rock Elf, hey, this guy's got a brand new head sculpt.
15:41And all it really is is just a reusing of the same tooled head that came included with
15:45that other release of Elf.
15:47For displaying this guy on the shelf, I'm probably going to rock with the glasses here.
15:50I like the look of that.
15:51I'm also going to have the figure displayed with, again, the TV, the game console, and
15:55hey, why not?
15:55Maybe a skateboard in his hand.
15:56As a side note, though, you've tried the best, now try the rest.
16:00Nice little nod, of course, the fact that they included the pizza box.
16:03While, again, many of these accessories were borrowed over from either the original Elf or
16:07from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
16:08The pizza box, the TV, what else?
16:11The skateboard.
16:11Skateboard, I would all imagine, be used before with earlier molds, but they've done them
16:16differently now, so they feel like they're brand new fresh.
16:19Not maybe as fresh-ish as the pizza that came included with the figure.
16:22But still, what do you guys think of totally 80s Elf?
16:25Is this one to pick up, or is this one to pass?
16:27Have you guys even been collecting any of the Elf figures from NECA?
16:29And if you have, which ones do you have in your collection currently?
16:32If you guys did enjoy this video, you can do it a solid throw to a like.
16:34If you guys want to stick around for more, so I hope so, hit that subscribe, turn on
16:38that bell, and of course, come back.
16:40If you need your fix for Elf in the meantime, popping up at the very end of this video, I
16:44should say, will be a playlist, not only of NECA, but within, obviously, NECA, there
16:48will be not only the reviews that I've done of Elf in the past, but everything else
16:51that I've done for NECA, I think we're kind of, what, like 500, 500, 600 videos, even
16:56in just that playlist alone.
16:57So there's a lot to look at when it comes to the earlier looked at NECA reviews.
17:01So feel free, give those a little bit of a watch if you have a little bit of time on
17:03your hands.
17:04Probably wouldn't recommend doing that while eating Malmachian pizza.
17:06It's going to be covered in cat hair.
17:09As always, guys, thanks for watching.
17:11See you guys next time.
17:21See you guys next time.
