00:00Somebody needs to keep Cowl away from this guy's clutches.
00:03Here's a look at Mattel Creations, He-Man, and the Mass Universe Cartoon Collections,
00:07Vault-Tac, Evil Flying Zookeeper.
00:21To celebrate the 40th anniversary of She-Ra, Princess of Power,
00:25we've brought Vault-Tac to the Origins line,
00:27introduced in 1985 as Hordak's Cowardly Zookeeper.
00:31Our bumbling fool sneers with a classic cartoon look
00:34and features detachable wings and talon feet to ensure that he patrols Eternia's skies
00:38and capture the innocent creatures of the Forest of Freedom.
00:42An accompanying metallic Zootron robot serves as a prison guard,
00:45keeping stock of all a Hordak's specimens in the Fright Zone.
00:49Swooping now in, in the shadows,
00:50before we get a closer look at the cartoon collection Vault-Tac,
00:53let's take the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:55Now, this is another one that's going to be a Mattel Creations exclusive.
00:58The only way that you can get your hands on Vault-Tac
01:00before he gets his hands on you, you dirty animals,
01:03is, of course, you have to go to their site,
01:04you have to agree to pay the $9.99 Mattel Creations subscription service,
01:08and then you can get this guy for $20.
01:10Which, again, as a Canadian, I'm still going to be paying a little bit more than $20,
01:14but he's not going for those stupid prices that eBay is going to be selling him for.
01:18Vault-Tac is standing at five and three-quarters of an inch in height.
01:21He is.
01:22That works out, though, to be a figure that's 14 centimeters tall.
01:25Vault-Tac is grabbing all these critters for Hordak Zoo,
01:27so let's bring in the cartoon collection Hordak for comparisons.
01:30Vault-Tac actually isn't as tall as Hordak,
01:33but he's using a very similar style of body.
01:35Here's also what he looks like with a completely different bodied mantenna,
01:39an equally different bodied leech,
01:40even though I guess the arms and the legs are somewhat similar.
01:43And here's also what the figure looks like with Shira.
01:45One thing that's kind of interesting, though, about the episode here,
01:48Vault-Tac does appear in the episode Zoo Story,
01:50and in that, Shira and Bo are trying to get across a moat,
01:54and somehow Shira has now adopted the abilities of Aquaman.
01:57She communicates with crocodiles in hopes of getting a ride across the waters.
02:02I don't think we've ever...
02:03Did we ever see that ability being used again?
02:06If we do, I completely forgot about it.
02:08Make sure I don't forget to mention that the figure does come and clear with a mini-comic and a Zutron.
02:12First, let's have a look at the mini-comic.
02:13This is entitled Shadowheart.
02:15It does feature very predominantly a Vault-Tac on the front,
02:17although in the background you can also see there's an advertisement for Bo.
02:21We are going to be getting ourselves a cartoon collection Bo.
02:23There's also nothing advertised on the back of this.
02:26Hero, when we looked at him as well, that was Mattel Creations,
02:28also had something very similar on the back.
02:30Nothing.
02:30Nothing at all, other than just Master Universe.
02:32It should really, though, say Shira,
02:34but again, because, of course, it's Master Universe as a whole,
02:36that's the entire banner of this entire toy line.
02:39I can understand why they're using that instead.
02:41Let's flip through the comic.
02:42It doesn't make much mention, really, of Zoo Story,
02:44so it's not really like a retelling of that,
02:46but it does at least have Vault-Tac featured in there.
02:49It also does have, as well, there's a really cool drawing of Hordak.
02:53I really like the look of him.
02:54Yeah, really good overall artwork.
02:57I will say, like, the artwork looks considerably better
02:59on some of these Mattel Creations mini-comics
03:02that at least I've experienced so far with two
03:03than what we've got with the Turtles of Greyskull.
03:06I never really liked the illustration design of that.
03:08There's Adora and Bo and Vault-Tac down below there as well.
03:12A very short and simple to read.
03:14I'm not going to obviously go through
03:15and spoil the entire story for you guys.
03:16For those that want to still pick this up,
03:18for those that want to experience it fresh hand,
03:20get that fresh smell of brand new plastic figures
03:22and open up the mini-comic
03:24and not be spoiled by anything inside the pages,
03:27I'm not going to be that guy.
03:28I'm not going to be that guy.
03:30What I am going to be guy is the guy that's going to show you
03:32at least he comes and click with a Zootron.
03:34Now, we get many of these little critters
03:36that basically occupy and basically take over the zoo.
03:38Well, they don't take over the zoo.
03:39They deal with all the things that Vault-Tac doesn't really want to do.
03:42So I'm sure they have to go in there and clean the stables.
03:45Zootron's kind of just going around and cleaning up all the debris inside,
03:48picking up all the droppings of the animals in there.
03:51I think to himself,
03:51Yeah, I'm really working hard, but I know one day,
03:54one day, this Zootron is going to be known for making a living,
03:58making a name for himself.
03:59And then I'll come home and I'll be able to say to my family,
04:02You know, Dad did all right today.
04:04Dad did all right today.
04:07What's rather interesting, though, about the Zootron,
04:09he doesn't have any posability whatsoever.
04:11I'm saying a he, I guess it could just be really an it.
04:14Doesn't have any posability at play here,
04:16but it does have some really cool, sinister-looking eyes.
04:20What's fun, though, is on the back of the Zootron,
04:22there is actually a handle.
04:23So you could take the Zootron if you want to,
04:25and you could put it in Voltec's hands.
04:27It, by this point, looks less like a Zootron,
04:31and it looks actually more like a beer stein.
04:33A beer stein with hands,
04:34so it looks like he's just drinking ale.
04:36Go, go, go, go, go.
04:36He's like, No, don't drink from my brain!
04:40It does also make, unfortunately, the figure a lot heavier.
04:42I don't have any real plans to have Voltec displayed
04:45with the Zootron like this,
04:46but I like the idea, at least they give him a handle.
04:49Put it off to the side.
04:50Some assembly is required, though, for Voltec.
04:52I've already taken the liberty of installing those said things.
04:54The figure does come in clue with wings.
04:56Now, these appear to be...
04:57I'm actually just going to detach them right now.
04:59They come separately in packaging.
05:01All that's really required on your part
05:02is take the two dots on the ends of the little pegs here
05:04and line them up with the holes in the back of his body.
05:07That's it.
05:07That's all you need to do.
05:09While he's looking off to the wall,
05:10is he looking over at the Blair Witch?
05:11Oh, I really hope the Blair Witch isn't behind me.
05:14No.
05:15No, okay.
05:15Sure.
05:16If you look at the wings, though,
05:18the wings seem to be the same ones.
05:20We just talked about this earlier.
05:21The Turtles of Grayskull.
05:22The Turtles of Grayskull, April O'Neil,
05:23I believe, had the exact same wings.
05:26I don't think it would be that far to remove to think
05:28that they're probably going to be using these wings again
05:30for the cartoon collection, Sorceress.
05:32I mean, think of it.
05:33It's simple.
05:34Simple logic.
05:35They're going to come up with cool wings like this,
05:36even though it obviously wasn't used for the Origins, Sorceress.
05:39I'm pretty much betting that this is going to be used
05:41for the cartoon collection release of her.
05:42Now, this is all done here in purple plastic,
05:44so rainbow wings aren't going to be applying this time around.
05:48The wings do open up, as you can see.
05:49They technically do peg through the tail.
05:52So if you don't like the look of the tail,
05:53you can take the tail off altogether if you want to,
05:55but it's part of the package.
05:56It's part of the package.
05:58Basically, all you're going to do is plug this on the back of his body.
06:00And it does almost, when you're looking at this,
06:03like the tail is way too high up.
06:05I mean, really, you could also leave the tail off altogether
06:08and just decide only to have the side wings instead.
06:11And then basically, this would just free up
06:12this whole real estate space right around here.
06:14But again, if it's going to be part of the figure,
06:16I'm just going to include it with it anyways.
06:18Now, when you're looking at it this way, Voltec looks fine.
06:21The moment you start to drop his wings, though,
06:23and it always seems to be the case when you get a winged character,
06:26it starts just to throw off the look of the character.
06:28I feel like the wings should really have been up here,
06:30but in order for that to work, this wouldn't have worked.
06:33So again, it's one of those prices that you have to pay.
06:36The wings look good.
06:37And of course, they do have some nice posability there as well.
06:40Let's not detach this all together.
06:41Plug that back in place.
06:42There we go.
06:43Getting, though, a closer look at Voltec.
06:45He looks a lot like the Green Goblin.
06:47The Green Goblin, of course, without his goblin cap.
06:50Colored here, though, in purple.
06:51In the episode, actually, he's colored more in gray.
06:54This is one of those departures from cartoon canon
06:57that I can actually get a little bit more behind.
06:58I actually think the purple looks a lot nicer for the character.
07:01Gray is fine and good.
07:02I know, again, gray would have been more cartoon accurate,
07:06but I think, though, the purple makes this figure pop a lot more
07:08than if he would have, if he would have been just gray.
07:10The purple, of course, matches the arms nicely as well to his head.
07:13The purple down below here for the legs.
07:15Nice pops of blue there as well in his belt, in his gauntlets,
07:17and the colored piece that he has around his head.
07:20Of course, he's got the Horde logo there featured on the front
07:22that he already knows that he belongs to Hordak.
07:25Although, in the case of Hordak, all the other,
07:27I shouldn't say all the other,
07:28or Mantenna never had this either.
07:30But if you, say, look at the likes of Leech,
07:33Leech actually did have the Horde logo sculpted.
07:36And, of course, when we did have a look at Hordak,
07:37who happens to be on the other side of the fence,
07:39Hordak also has his sculpted, too.
07:41Mantenna and him seem to be the only ones so far
07:44that actually have printed on Horde logos.
07:47Not that it really matters at all.
07:49Again, the head sculpt looks really good.
07:51This is a figure that I think is a good example
07:52of a Mattel Creations.
07:54I don't think he would have done really well at all
07:56to be sold in stores.
07:57I mean, most of the figures that have sold right now,
07:59people would recognize right away.
08:01This guy's only appeared, I think,
08:02a two-episode zoo story in another one.
08:04For that, I don't think it would be a good sell
08:06to put this guy on a store shelf,
08:07because he probably would have ended up being a peg warmer.
08:10Now, for the figure's articulation,
08:11starting back with Voltec's head,
08:13it's going to rotate all the way around.
08:15Despite having a collar piece,
08:16surprisingly, his head does still freely rotate
08:18all the way around.
08:19Head looks up, head looks down.
08:21What? Back? Yeah.
08:22And forth.
08:23This way.
08:24The figure does have, of course, the waist swivel.
08:27Normally, I would have said the arms
08:28would have been able to rotate all the way around.
08:29Obviously, wings are going to get kind of
08:30in the way of things.
08:31You can bring the figure's arms out
08:33at about a T-pose, 90 degrees.
08:36That's what a T-pose is, by the way.
08:38Swivel there at the forearm.
08:39The single hinge also allows that forearm
08:41to bend back and forth.
08:42Bring your arm down there for a second.
08:43Hands rotate all the way around.
08:44Yes, they do.
08:45The legs obviously split,
08:47and there goes the wings.
08:48Legs split out there,
08:49working with ball joints behind the scenes.
08:51Those legs, of course, move forward.
08:52They move back.
08:53There's a swivel at the top of the thigh.
08:55Single hinge for the knee.
08:56Rotation lower leg.
08:57Rotation in the boots.
08:59Ankle pivots.
09:00What? What? What?
09:01Ankle rocker.
09:03Sorry.
09:03Ankle rocker.
09:05Right there.
09:05Ankle rocker.
09:07Yeah, again, I think this is one of those figures
09:08that, first of all, for the price,
09:0920 bucks, that's US, obviously.
09:11I always kind of say $20.
09:13That's what the online site lists this as.
09:16As a Canadian collector,
09:18I think when it was all done,
09:19I was probably paying more closer,
09:21I think about $35.
09:22I'm not going to really count in that matter,
09:24like the Mattel Creations membership subscription,
09:27because technically I had already paid that
09:29when I got myself Hero,
09:30and I probably should have acted more smartly.
09:32I bought Hero as a separate video,
09:34or a separate purchase.
09:36So he shipped separately,
09:37and all the shipping costs went along with him,
09:39and then I just did the same again
09:40when I ordered myself Voltec.
09:41Truth be told,
09:42I probably should have just honestly ordered
09:43these guys all at the same time.
09:45Probably would have paid a little bit more
09:46for the shipping,
09:47but I probably would have paid less collectively
09:49than if I had bought them all individually.
09:51And of course,
09:52here's what the figures look like with Hordak.
09:54Once again,
09:55Mantena,
09:56where's Leech?
09:57Leech is right over there.
09:59And of course,
10:00She-Ra,
10:00who somehow now in this episode
10:01can communicate with alligators.
10:04And of course,
10:04here's also what the Zootron looks like.
10:06I don't know if I really necessarily
10:07need any more Zootrons.
10:08I think there's probably,
10:09there's a good dozen or so
10:10that we see in the episode.
10:11I probably only need a,
10:12I only need the one.
10:13I mean,
10:13who are we kidding?
10:14I don't think I need to necessarily
10:15army build Zootrons
10:17unless maybe they release
10:18a Zootron army pack.
10:20Maybe,
10:21maybe.
10:22But yeah,
10:22I think again,
10:23like a Mattel Creations,
10:24Voltec makes a lot more sense
10:25than retail released Voltec.
10:27In the stores,
10:28he may have actually suffered longer
10:30not being picked up by collectors
10:31who just maybe didn't know
10:32who the character was.
10:34As a quick update,
10:35by the way,
10:35Voltec is still fully available
10:37at Mattel Creations site
10:38for the $20 asking price.
10:40For a character this deep of a cut,
10:41I can't imagine he's going to be
10:42selling out anytime fast either.
10:45For the $20,
10:46you know,
10:47again,
10:47for a character like this
10:48that only really appeared
10:49in what,
10:49one episode?
10:50I think maybe even appeared
10:51in two episodes total.
10:53For a $20 figure,
10:54I don't think that's bad at all.
10:56I mean,
10:56at least if we're,
10:57we're kind of gone the days
10:58of like when you think
10:59of the Mattel Creations
11:00or Matty Collector
11:01back in the day,
11:02what the Matt Master Universe
11:03Classics version
11:04of a Voltec
11:05could have maybe cost.
11:06More closer,
11:07probably about $50,
11:08$60.
11:09I mean,
11:10obviously this is going to be
11:10a little bit smaller in scale,
11:11a whole lot less accessories
11:13other than really the Zootron.
11:15But again,
11:15for that asking price,
11:16I think it's more than enough
11:17to venture over to their site
11:18and pick this up.
11:19Now,
11:19again,
11:20to go with that,
11:21it has to be added
11:22that there obviously
11:23is the Mattel Creations
11:24subscription service.
11:24That's only going to tack on
11:26another $9.99 on that.
11:28I'm not necessarily advocating
11:29for Mattel Creations,
11:31but at least though,
11:32if we're getting the characters
11:33that appear in those onesies
11:34or the twosies episodes,
11:36you know,
11:36probably having this
11:37being an online model
11:38subscription service figure
11:40makes a lot more sense
11:41than having this guy
11:42being relegated
11:43to peg store shelves
11:44and eventually being
11:45clearanced down.
11:46What do you guys think
11:46of Vault-Tec?
11:47Let me know down below
11:48in the comments section
11:48what other single episodes
11:51or maybe a character
11:52that only appeared
11:52in one or two episodes
11:53of She-Ra
11:54or Massie Universe.
11:55What do you think
11:56would be a good fit
11:57for the Massie Universe
11:58Mattel Creations site?
12:00Let me know which ideas
12:01you have down below
12:02in the video description.
12:03If you guys also
12:04did enjoy this video,
12:04you can do it a solid
12:05throw it a like.
12:06You guys want to stick around
12:07for more so?
12:08I hope so.
12:10I hope so.
12:10By the way, though,
12:11even though we're kind of
12:12wrapping up things right now
12:13for Zoo Story,
12:14there are all going to
12:15actually be more
12:15Mattel Creations exclusives
12:17coming to this channel
12:18all this week.
12:19So if that's the kind
12:20of bread and butter
12:20you'd like to come back
12:21for this channel for,
12:22there's definitely going to be
12:23lots of bread and butter
12:24coming your way.
12:24As always,
12:25thanks for watching.
12:26See you guys next time.
12:37See you guys next time.
