00:00Hopefully with every issue like this, it can cure your crometophobia.
00:03Here's your look at the Brandon McFarlane Toys DC Direct, the new Batman Adventures Scarecrow.
00:07The New Batman Adventures Scarecrow
00:37Crane has adopted the role of the Scarecrow, a living embodiment of things that go bump in the night.
00:42A career supervillain, Scarecrow lives to clash with Batman, intent on making the Dark Knight cower in fear.
00:49Let us get things underway and figure out how tall the new Batman Adventures Scarecrow stands by, of course, grabbing the tape measure of mine.
00:55What was that? Sorry? Chrometophobia? I'm so glad you asked.
00:58Chrometophobia is an irrational and overwhelming anxiety or panic at the thought of spending money.
01:02So if you had that anxiety about the idea of trying to track down an original DC collectibles, DC Direct, new Batman Adventures Scarecrow, he's going with some pretty stupid money.
01:10In fact, some of the listings I've seen online has the figure going for around $190.
01:14One good thing is about this guy is being that he essentially is using the same mold.
01:19McFarlane Toys at least keeps the cost down.
01:21You can get this figure right now for around $25.
01:23That's a lot easier on your budget.
01:26The figure, though, is going to stand about the same, obviously, because he's using the same mold.
01:29It's 6 inches in height, and, of course, that translates to a figure that's 15 centimeters tall.
01:34I guess third time's the harm.
01:35We've already had a look at both Batman and Edward Nygma before we moved on over to the Master of Fear.
01:40All the figures, by the way, are using still the same original DC Direct molds from the new Batman Adventures line.
01:45And, of course, here's what the figure looks like with the original Scarecrow.
01:49This figure, unfortunately, though, not only having to experience some of the dust that started to settle on this figure,
01:54I'll talk more about that in a moment,
01:55he's also developed overly loose ankles.
01:58And while, of course, we're looking at Scarecrow, let's look at his second iteration.
02:02This was always one of my favorite looks to Scarecrow.
02:04I never really liked the original sack mask that he had in, like, the first appearance of the new Batman Adventures or the Batman Animated Series.
02:10But I certainly did like the look of this Scarecrow also from the DC Collectibles line as well.
02:15Here's another phobia you might be familiar with.
02:17Catastrophobia.
02:17Yeah, is the fear of losing everything.
02:19While we haven't lost everything, we have lost some notable accessories that were included with the original DC Collectibles crane.
02:24Not one of which being, of course, the new cell that we get included with these figures.
02:28This is now the third time.
02:30And in fact, all three figures have all had their own cells dedicated to that character.
02:34I like the hangman look of crane here.
02:36It's also pulled from episode Beware the Creeper, season two, episode number 10.
02:40Believing Killer Croc is a kindred spirit after she sees him on TV being sentenced to a crime.
02:45Babydoll sets him free and goes on a crime spree with him after she starts to question his trustworthiness or her and her own judgment.
02:51This was the air date of November 7th, 1998.
02:54So again, like 1998.
02:56Like, how old were you back in 1998?
02:58Maybe don't even tell me.
02:59I'll just only feel a little bit older.
03:01Directed by Dan Ribba.
03:02Story again by Rich Fogle.
03:04And animated services by Coco Enterprises in Dong Yang.
03:07And music once again by Lolita Ripmanis.
03:10I say again, I think this is actually the first time we've listed Lolita on the back of the card.
03:14The card also does have a folding standee.
03:17So you just fold back the piece of paper like this, and now you've got yourself a little standee.
03:21Yeah, I like the look of these quite a lot.
03:23I wouldn't really want to have this taking the place of something else.
03:27And unfortunately, something else had to take its place because we are missing a few accessories this time around.
03:32Let's move that off to the side.
03:33That figure does also come in clear with a display stand.
03:35Now, this time around, I actually still have the new Adventures Scarecrow display stand, so you guys can see.
03:41It has, not in this case, a front three-quarter turn, three-quarter back turn.
03:44What we essentially get, though, is just an outline design of Scarecrow, and then a cel-shaded shadow design of the same character.
03:51You'll also notice as well, he comes with a walking stick.
03:54Yeah, we're going to talk more about that.
03:56Same style of stand.
03:58In fact, actually, it looks like the shape is exactly the same.
04:00Now we get it in black.
04:01Yes, it does come in black, by the way.
04:02And it now has itself a waist clip.
04:04So instead of having to really contend with these, pardon my French, stupid, these waist clips that always really came undone.
04:13Sure, they had some adjustability where you can actually move them forward and back.
04:16That's fine and good.
04:17But these always came off all the time, especially if you're trying to hold a more slender character like a female figure.
04:22The new display stand definitely does things better.
04:25Now we got ourselves a spring-loaded waist clip that could fit around the waist of Crane.
04:29Basically, you just open up the waist clip, take yourself your figure, and Crane actually, Scarecrow is a little bit wider of a frame.
04:37But yeah, you can still get him onto the display stand.
04:39I always kind of feel like the stand sort of results in the character kind of being off to the side and not dead in center.
04:45Still, though, I think it's definitely an improvement over the DC collectible ones we've gotten.
04:49Okay, so one of the big issues that I have with Crane here, Scarecrow came with a lot more accessories than what we're getting here from McFarlane Toys.
04:57You would think that if it's a reissue of the initial figure, which again happens to be this one right here,
05:03you would think that they would then have included all the same accessories.
05:06So you get the same hands.
05:08These are the original hands for Scarecrow.
05:09You can probably see right away that they're a different color, much lighter for the DC collectibles,
05:13a little bit more in beige color for the McFarlane Toys release.
05:17You also got two, well, three other things, three other things that came included with the DC collectibles release.
05:22You got yourself a canister of fear toxin.
05:24Even though he really doesn't.
05:27Did he really have a hand to properly hold that?
05:29I guess he does.
05:29You could take this hand right here.
05:32Just wedge that in there.
05:33It's kind of really strange that you still get the hands for those accessories,
05:36and yet you don't get the accessories for the original figure.
05:39So you get a fear toxin.
05:41He also got a gun, which is kind of really strange when you think a scarecrow always wielding a pistol.
05:46Yet he does come included with one.
05:47The thing that I was really the most disappointed by is he doesn't have his walking stick.
05:52Now, I don't even have my walking stick.
05:53Not me, the figure.
05:54I don't even have the original walking stick for this figure.
05:57It's probably in that big, random, big bunch of bagged accessories that I just kind of threw everything in there.
06:01I was a stupid collector back in the day.
06:03Just like, just heaving everything into one bag.
06:05I don't have...
06:06It's somewhere.
06:07I got a big bag of just a whole bunch of DC collectible stuff.
06:11In that bag, I probably would find myself the walking stick, and this figure would have had it.
06:15This figure, unfortunately, doesn't.
06:17What he does get instead is like six extra hands.
06:20If you're not going to include those accessories, I almost feel like it's sort of redundant then to include all these extra hands.
06:25The figure already has closed fists on the ends of his forearms.
06:28Over there, over there.
06:29But he does also have a couple of gripping hands.
06:32Which, again, really seems so out of place now when you think of the fact that there's no accessories to go along with these.
06:37A couple of gripping hands.
06:38You know, again, a couple more gripping hands, just to only more remind you.
06:42Drive home the idea that the figure should have really had something.
06:45And then you get a couple of kind of spooky hands.
06:48Which, you know, again, if you're not going to include anything else with this figure,
06:51these would really be the better looking arms that display with them.
06:55To change out the hands, all that's really required on your part,
06:57just take the hand and move it like that.
06:59Boy, that's easy, isn't it?
07:00And plug the new hand in place.
07:02Do the same thing on this side.
07:04Just unplug that.
07:06And plug this back in place.
07:07No issues at all changing out the hands.
07:10And again, without this guy having any other accessories,
07:12probably going to be the way I'm going to display this figure on the shelf.
07:15As for the actual look of the character overlooking the omitted accessories,
07:20he really isn't that much different from the original Scarecrow.
07:22Now, unfortunately, because he has this fedora that's made of super soft plastic,
07:26having this guy sitting inside of a bag for as long as I have,
07:30has resulted in the hat sitting really low on the figure.
07:33They haven't changed it.
07:34I mean, really, I would have loved that this could have been a harder plastic instead of the softer plastic.
07:38Because, yeah, if you aren't displaying this guy on a shelf, out in the open,
07:42if you put this guy inside of a tray or in a bag with all the other figures,
07:45it's definitely going to end up squishing his hat.
07:48From the face, though, the head sculpts are identical.
07:51There are things that I think are better on this head sculpt than on this one.
07:55Notably, one of the things I like the most on the original is the darker looking eyes.
07:59I kind of have to lift this up so you guys can see what he looks like.
08:02If you compare these eyes and you compare with the eyes that he has here,
08:05there's definitely more of a transitional shadowing here.
08:09But I like the darker eyes a little bit more on the original.
08:12I think the mask looks nicer on this guy than it does on the original.
08:15The original kind of goes with more of a darker, kind of a yellowish beige,
08:19where this one now has it more of a lighter grayish beige.
08:22The outfits are exactly the same as well.
08:24The jacket, as you can see, too, has more of a greenish tint to the gray,
08:28where this would have relied more on a darker gray.
08:30The noose is also a different color.
08:32The shirt underneath is also a different color,
08:34now going the brown instead of this, like, kind of lighter off gray.
08:38I think the colors overall are better on this figure than on this one,
08:41but I think that the eyes are a lot nicer on the original than on the newer one.
08:46Still, to go back, though, I mean, to put this figure down here for a second.
08:50Still has very small ankles, obviously.
08:54Yeah, this figure was sitting inside of a bag, and you can probably already see.
08:57There's something about the plastic that DC collectibles were using back in the day.
09:00Now, I assure you that these guys haven't just been neglected sitting on a shelf,
09:04and just all this shelf dust has started to settle on the plastic.
09:08There's something about this plastic that, over time, if you have them sitting inside bags,
09:12the Scarecrow never had, well, the Riddler never had that issue.
09:16And yet, to bring back in the Mad Hatter, the Mad Hatter's probably, like, the worst example of that.
09:20This plastic, I don't know, just starts to leave a film after a while.
09:24It's almost like it's decomposing.
09:26But I've got all this dust that's all over the figure's body.
09:29Definitely was a lot worse, though, on Scarecrow and on Mad Hatter.
09:33I've already gone in there, clearly cleaned this all up, so it looked a little bit more presentable for this review.
09:37There's still a little bit of it, as you can see, has settled on the plastic.
09:40I don't know if it's going to be the same case on this one.
09:43Like, weight-wise, they feel about the same.
09:46Like, it's not as much of a difference as when we looked at, like, the Batmans.
09:48The two Batmans were very different weight from one another.
09:51I feel like the Scarecrows are almost about the same weight.
09:54The bodies are obviously exactly the same as well.
09:57I will, again, say, like, one of the benefits of getting now the McFarlane toy stuff,
10:01while, yes, it unfortunately loses some of the accessories,
10:04it seems, though, to gain much better plastic.
10:06Like, the joints feel a little bit more durable, for example,
10:09especially when you get to really very thin limbs like this.
10:12Scarecrow's not as bad.
10:14He certainly is a little thinner down below here.
10:15And I feel like bending the knees, I feel a little bit more secure with the plastic that they're using now.
10:19In fact, for the articulation for Scarecrow, going back once again to a scary-looking face.
10:24Oof. Oof.
10:26The head rotates back and forth.
10:28It is somewhat on a ball joint, but the way that they actually ball-joined it,
10:32they have it facing this way instead of facing up.
10:35So the neck does rotate back and forth just above the noose.
10:38You can't really move it up and down, though.
10:40That's a little bit more limited there.
10:41The arms do rotate all the way around.
10:43You can bring them almost out at a T-pose,
10:45more or less, like, a little more than 45 degrees, I would say.
10:49He has a single bend in the elbow.
10:51The forearm does rotate back and forth.
10:53And the hands being, of course, they plug right here.
10:55There's no wrist swivel, but he certainly has the swivel right here.
11:00So you can rotate that all the way around.
11:02The figure's waist does move forward and back,
11:04even though, again, he has the jacket over top.
11:06The legs split, but again, they only split so far
11:09just because there's so much stuff around him.
11:11They do move forward.
11:12They do move back.
11:13Back somewhat.
11:14Single hinge in the knee.
11:15And then, again, you've got your ankle pivot and ankle rocker.
11:18I did notice, though, that with Scarecrow here,
11:20he's a little loose down below in the ankles,
11:22but not nearly as loose as the original DC collectible figures,
11:26which, over time, like, some of them worked a little bit better than others.
11:29I mean, Scarecrow is a good example of that.
11:30He was so top-heavy that, over time, like, his ankles,
11:34this angle especially, is just super loose.
11:37Thank goodness, though, again, he comes included with display stands.
11:40But what he doesn't come included with, neither.
11:41Well, this, the original one did.
11:43The new one doesn't.
11:45He doesn't come included with, like, the walking stick.
11:48Nor does he come included with the gas.
11:49Nor does he come included with the pistol.
11:51Now, I probably could have just said, like, do away with the toxin gas.
11:55Even do away with the pistol.
11:56I have real no need for either one of these when it comes to displaying him.
11:59Maybe, if anything, the gas could still stay around.
12:02I would just do away with the pistol altogether.
12:04And I probably, as well, like, considering he doesn't have any other accessories
12:08than just a bunch of random arms,
12:10I would probably have just done away with a couple of these arms
12:12in favor of using the plastic to give him the walking stick.
12:15And the end of it, I'm actually more,
12:17I would be more interested in displaying the figure on the shelf with the walking stick
12:21than just having a bunch of random arms sitting inside the bag.
12:24In the end, though, it's still certainly a vast improvement.
12:26I think, like, overall, the coloring of the body is a lot nicer than on the original one.
12:30I think the eyes, though, are a little bit better.
12:32But I think head to toe, he's a much scarier-looking Scarecrow.
12:35A much better plastic, as well, as a takeaway.
12:37The McFarlane Toys Scarecrow does give us a better-looking figure from head to toe.
12:41It can't, though, be overlooked.
12:42The fact that, clearly, this figure is lacking some of the accessories
12:45that made the original DC Collectibles one the better of the two.
12:48If only you could Frankenstein the two figures together,
12:51give us the display stand and the figure from this release,
12:54and take some of the accessories, again, from the original DC Collectibles
12:56and put them together.
12:57Still, I feel like almost I would have traded some of the forearm replacements.
13:01Of course, he has, like, what, six extra interchangeable hands.
13:04I would have replaced at least maybe two of those
13:06in favor of using the plastic towards giving him his walking stick.
13:09If the pistol had to be overlooked for obvious reasons
13:11that they can't include guns anymore, that would be one thing.
13:14And maybe the gas toxin would have been nice to still include.
13:17But I just don't feel like it makes any sense
13:19they include six extra swappable arms.
13:21If, really, the only other arms I'd be interested in putting on the figure's forearms
13:25would be the ones he has right now.
13:27In the end, though, I still, while I think the eyes are better painted
13:30on the original DC Collectibles, head-to-toe, though,
13:33I think this one has the other one beat.
13:35What do you guys, though, think of the new McFarlane Toys DC
13:37New Adventures of Batman Scarecrow?
13:39Do you feel like, from head-to-toe, this is a better-looking Scarecrow
13:42from the one that we got from the DC Collectibles,
13:44or do you still prefer the original one more?
13:46If, again, you guys didn't want to pick this one up for yourself,
13:49it's available right now, either in stores or online.
13:52The selling price of these figures are $25.
13:54So a big, big difference from obviously paying well over $100
13:58for the original attempt to try to get Crane.
14:01I mean, I've still looked online,
14:02and the listings for the original Scarecrow
14:04seem not to have dropped that much,
14:06considering now there's a new reissue of him.
14:08He's still selling for almost $100.
14:10A big thank you again to the folks over at McFarlane Toys
14:12that did provide this sample of the brand-new DC Direct,
14:15the new Adventures of Batman Scarecrow.
14:17Yes, that we had the chance to have a look at this review.
14:19If you guys did enjoy this video, you can do it a solid throw to like.
14:22You guys want to stick around for more so?
14:24I hope so.
14:26I hope so.
14:27Make sure you hit that subscribe.
14:28Make sure, of course, you turn on that bell.
14:30And the most important thing is that you're also coming back.
14:32We're going to be wrapping up things right now for the DC Direct figures,
14:35but there will be more reviews coming your way for the rest of this week.
14:38As always, thanks for watching.
14:40See you guys next time.
14:41See you guys next time.
15:02Bye.
15:03Bye.
