00:00When you're a villain and you're vile, you never go out of style.
00:03Here's a look at the Mattel Masterverse Vintage Collection Skeletor.
00:23This Masterverse Vintage Collection action figure of Skeletor is designed at Masterverse 7-inch scale with 30 points of articulation.
00:29This collectible design of the Motu Ultimate Villain with evil red eyes glowing from his face comes with signature Ram's Head Havoc Staff and Power Sword.
00:36The evil Lord of Destruction comes beautifully packaged in a window box suitable for display.
00:41I always look forward to future Skeletor figures, especially ones that look back to the past.
00:46Before, though, we get a closer look at the Masterverse Vintage Collection Skeletor.
00:50Of course, you know me. I'm going to take the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:53If I'm looking at this correctly, because I don't have a bone face or glowing red eyes, not that I'm aware of at least,
00:58Skeletor, in fact, is standing at 7 inches in height.
01:01Or the figure clocks in at about 17 and a half centimeters tall.
01:06In fact, if I want to stay stuck in the past, I'd probably even compare him with a vintage Skeletor.
01:10Not one from my childhood. I actually found this at a local toy show.
01:13The face has unfortunately been colored and he's missing some of his accessories.
01:16But at least until I find myself a better looking Skeletor, he'll do the part nicely.
01:20Not as good of a part, of course, is the original Version 1 Skeletor from the Origin days.
01:25That's an ugly looking mug.
01:27Here's also what the figure looks like with Maddy Collector Skeletor.
01:30I still have a lot of my Maddy Collector Master Universe Classics figures.
01:32Love the look of that line.
01:34Here's also a figure that I do want to bring in, too.
01:36Now, he was a good stand-in if you wanted a classic looking Skeletor.
01:38This was, in fact, the Masterverse New Eternia Skeletor.
01:41Of course, you had to strip away some of the barbarian parts.
01:43But underneath that, though, if you swapped it out for the classic head sculpt, yeah, that was a good looking Skeletor.
01:47Here's also what he looks like, too, with the Battle Armor Skeletor.
01:50Yeah, we have a whole lot of these.
01:52And, yeah, if we're going to be also looking, of course, at the Vintage Collection Skeletor,
01:55it would make some sense to put in his foil, as well.
01:57Here's what he looks like with the Vintage Collection He-Man.
01:59I'm going to want to bring back that He-Man in a moment, so I'll keep him pretty close.
02:02Looking, though, first at the accessories that come included with Boneface.
02:05Yeah, one thing you did want to make notice of is, at the beginning of this video, when I was kind of unboxing everything,
02:10there was a little side compartment space.
02:12Normally, it would have, like, a little hole in the top.
02:14You would know to put your finger in there, open it up, and find treasures inside.
02:16It wasn't that that time around.
02:18It actually was a much smaller looking quarter.
02:20So you want to make sure, before you discard everything,
02:22why am I waving my hand so frantically?
02:24Before you discard away the packaging, just check to the side,
02:27because there, in fact, was a little mystery bag.
02:29And what was inside the mystery bag, you may all be asking.
02:31Well, at least two of you may be asking.
02:33For those two that are asking, the figure does come included with a closed fist,
02:36and he comes included with a relaxed hand.
02:38Both of those can be at your disposal,
02:40providing, of course, you check that bag before you throw and heave everything into the recycling bin.
02:44But it doesn't just end there, though.
02:46Also included inside is Skeletor's version of the Power Sword,
02:49which is a nice looking sword.
02:51Man, oh man, that looks pretty cool.
02:52I don't know where I've put the actual vintage He-Man sword,
02:54but I would imagine it's probably going to be identical to this.
02:57Well, clearly not going to be identical, at least in the metallic purple.
03:00But man, oh man, that's a nice looking sword.
03:02There's some storage space, obviously, already in his hands,
03:05so he can grip the sword in either one of his hands.
03:07Or, or, if you look on the back of the figure as well,
03:11located on the back of his armor, there is also a slot here, a holster,
03:14that you can basically slide the sword in there, sheath it, store it away,
03:18if you want to have the figure displayed with something else instead.
03:20My only one real worry is with the way that the sword slides in place.
03:24Not that it's tight, but I wonder, though, if it's going to start to, like,
03:28cause little stress marks or kind of little wear marks on the top of the blade.
03:32Not that it's necessarily going to be rubbing too much against plastic,
03:35but also sheathing it and sheathing it repeatedly, I would imagine, though.
03:39I don't know.
03:40Maybe that's going to cause a little bit of a wear mark.
03:42Let's at least, though, keep that in place.
03:44The one other included accessory it has with Skeletor is, of course, his Havok Staff.
03:49As I spin this around, I can't help but think I've seen this Havok Staff before.
03:53It wasn't the Revelation Skeletor, and it wasn't, I don't think it was the new Eternia Skeletor.
03:59If you happen to know down below, let me know down below.
04:02One thing that's really cool, though, about the Havok Staff, it's large.
04:05It's got very large horns on the side.
04:07It's actually also a different color from the rest of the handle.
04:09You'll notice, though, that when you look at the handle,
04:11it's actually a much lighter kind of grape purple,
04:14and yet, though, the top of the actual ram head is a much darker shade of that.
04:19I kind of wish that they would have kept all the colors consistent,
04:21that the top of the Havok Staff would have been the exact same color as the rest of the handle.
04:25Anyways, neither here nor there.
04:27Let's go ahead, though, and take the Havok Staff and fit it into his hand.
04:30The benefit already of coming out of the packaging with gripping hands,
04:33Skeletor, you don't have to worry about at all swapping out the hands.
04:36Basically, just take yourself the Havok Staff, and it fits perfectly in place.
04:39Skeletor will be on my display with Havok Staff in hand,
04:42and probably just, yeah, going to be keeping his version of the Power Sword on the back of his body.
04:46Let's remove all the accessories right now.
04:48By the way, if you wanted to see what it looks like to swap out the hands,
04:51again, it's just a case of holding on to the forearms.
04:53Don't let go, whatever you do, just in case he wants to scurry away,
04:56and just sort of twist the hand back and forth until finally you remove it.
04:59Take the hand you want to then use.
05:01Whether evil or not, the thumbs will always go in and pop that in place instead.
05:06Because Skeletor tend to have only usually one relaxed hand, one gripping hand,
05:10to kind of keep consistent with the original retro toy, I might just do the same.
05:14I might have him with a relaxed hand on one side, a gripping hand on the other.
05:17So let's move all those accessories out of the way.
05:19I guess really what we could do, too, is take the sword off and put that out of the way as well.
05:22I did already mention I was going to be bringing back in Vintage He-Man.
05:25Here's what Vintage He-Man looks like.
05:27For me, at least, I still think it's an ugly-looking He-Man.
05:29I know some have championed this in the comments section when I did the review of him,
05:33saying that he was a good-looking He-Man, and he looked a lot like his vintage self.
05:37I will say, though, for the time that I've had this guy stored away,
05:40my interest level in him has increased just a little bit more than what it was before.
05:45I hated the head sculpt before of He-Man.
05:47The more time that I'm looking at it, I don't hate it as much.
05:50I still think it's ugly, though.
05:52But, I mean, when you start to compare him with the uglier-looking He-Man that we're getting now with the Masterverse line,
05:56why are we using that head sculpt now as a He-Man moving forward?
05:59This one actually doesn't look all that bad now that I'm looking at it.
06:03The one thing that's still consistent, though, and the one thing that's bothering me about this line,
06:07is the use of the larger torsos.
06:09Why, though, I brought in He-Man is because it seems like they are using the same bodies.
06:13Not necessarily the arms, of course, because Skeletor here does have the little fins that he has on his forearms,
06:18but if you look at his biceps, you look at his shoulders, and you look more specifically at his torso,
06:23it looks like they are using the same bodies.
06:26The one thing that always really bothered me about He-Man, too, was the shape of his chest.
06:31He was very swollen up here. Very swollen.
06:34At least it did still give him a neck, but I felt like his chest was way too big.
06:38Had they just toned it down a bit, it looks almost like Rob Liefeld had drawn this.
06:42I think the torso pecs were way too big on He-Man, and unfortunately with Skeletor, what seems to be using the same body,
06:48he's carried over that same ugly trend.
06:51Now, some may look at that and say, well, you know, if you look at the original Vintage Skeletor,
06:55Vintage Skeletor would have also had that as well.
06:58I don't know if I would say that. Where's my Vintage Skeletor? I just finished putting him away.
07:03Let's see if I can go grab him off to the side here.
07:05The one thing about Vintage Skeletor, as I reach back into the bag here, Vintage Skeletor.
07:10There he is right there. There he is right there.
07:12If you look at the bodies, his top torso is still large. I get that. I get that.
07:17But his pectorals, though, are still much smaller.
07:20I don't know why they felt the need to give Skeletor such a big of a body like this,
07:24because it kind of throws the proportions off of the figure quite considerably.
07:27All right, I'm going to keep him close because I might just end up bringing Skeletor back in.
07:32The one thing I also did want to keep in here, at least for this review, is the New Eternia version of Skeletor.
07:37Now, granted, yes, it does still look a lot like the classic days for Skeletor.
07:41The one thing I really like always about these bodies, though, is if you look at the torso,
07:44they're proportionally better for the rest of his frame.
07:47His arms, his lower legs all seem to match a good size with the top of his torso.
07:52The problem with this Skeletor, though, is while his arms look OK,
07:55it just looks like, for example, like with his torso being so big like this.
07:59Maybe the biggest issue for me is that the abdomen area isn't long enough and it isn't tapered enough.
08:04He basically just has himself like a box body.
08:07Had this only been a case where the torso was a little bit more narrower,
08:10and maybe like the abdomen area was a little longer, maybe like even that,
08:13I think he would look a little bit better in size.
08:16One thing I will say, though, is I love the head sculpt, though, for the new Skeletor.
08:21Initially kind of thinking, though, that maybe too much dark color was added to the front of his face.
08:26I really think it works quite well for Skeletor.
08:28Now, he doesn't have as much of the green as, again, like Braav, so I'm so glad he held on to this.
08:32Yeah, I know, he has been, unfortunately, colored with marker.
08:35I guess the person who had originally bought this, or originally owned it,
08:38felt the need to go in there and colored it up with green marker.
08:41It's not much of an eyesore.
08:43I mean, I can still live with the fact that Skeletor would have had an originally green face anyways.
08:47Maybe had they found a way to incorporate some of the green to the top of his face as well,
08:51that would have maybe helped to make this guy look a little bit more like the vintage days,
08:54but yeah, you know what? That's a good-looking Skeletor head.
08:57The colors look really good on him as well,
08:59and one thing I really like that the cartoon collection failed so miserably at,
09:02they actually leave a space right underneath the jaw area of Skeletor's face,
09:07so it doesn't actually look like he's just molded into the rest of the hood.
09:11Now, with this also being the case that Skeletor always,
09:14like even with the original ones, and all the ones we've gotten since,
09:17Skeletor's hood always seems to be a separate piece from the rest of his armor.
09:21So if you don't mind the fact that obviously Skeletor's hood clearly isn't part of his armor,
09:26at least the neck saves this guy.
09:29Actually, when I got this guy out of the packaging, his head was down like this,
09:31and I thought, oh no, that looks even worse.
09:34But though, if you actually just bring the neck up a little bit,
09:37it kind of helps just a little bit.
09:39It doesn't save the day though, because obviously it's just too swollen down below here,
09:43but with the neck, it does at least give him a little bit better proportions.
09:46I really like the armor here that he's got on the top of his torso.
09:49Now again, like the original Skeletor would have had this,
09:52although they went now in here, and they've also painted this a metallic purple,
09:55instead of just relying on the darker purple.
09:57I really like the dark purple. I really like the purple that they used for the hood,
10:01and I also really like the coloring that they've given this pastel blue for his body.
10:04He's got it in his torso, obviously anywhere that skin has the blue,
10:07and this Skeletor is actually quite different too, because he also has monster feet.
10:11Truth be told though, all Skeletors tend to have monster feet,
10:14but they usually end up showing his feet.
10:16This is one of the few Skeletors outside the battle armor that actually now has monster boots.
10:21It's really nice on this figure as well.
10:23Now, speaking of that new Eternia Skeletor,
10:26one thing that's actually kind of interesting too,
10:28is that they are using the exact same ball joints for their heads.
10:30So if you didn't want to, say you don't really like this body as much as,
10:34well, as maybe the person next to you,
10:36you can also then take the heads off of these two figures,
10:38and you can actually swap them around.
10:40So just to show you guys what that looks like,
10:42even though really like his torso armor,
10:44and I mean, again, you could probably have gone in there too,
10:46and stripped the armor down, and just swapped the bodies around.
10:49This probably would end up sitting a little bit loose though by default,
10:52just because he's a little bit more tapered here.
10:54But if you wanted to, I suppose you probably could swap the pieces around,
10:57and get a more closer looking resemblance of Skeletor.
11:00Maybe, I don't know, maybe you could even pop the boots off.
11:02I'm not going to try to risk doing that, just in case they don't want to come off so easily.
11:05But if you did want to, you could swap the bodies around,
11:08and just use like obviously the new Eternia Skeletor,
11:11and use just the head for the vintage collection.
11:13Let's pop that back off, put it back where it belongs.
11:16So yeah, you know, just to run again through this,
11:19I like the head, I like the paint, I love the body.
11:22Well, I like the coloring of the body.
11:24The only thing that just doesn't work for me at least,
11:26and only just for me, my own personal opinions,
11:28I just think like this is too big.
11:30And it was way too big also with He-Man.
11:32I know some would say like He-Man is the most powerful man in the universe.
11:35Yeah, he should have a big torso.
11:37But he shouldn't have big pecs like this.
11:39Just my own personal opinion.
11:41Now for Skeletor's articulation, going back to his head sculpt here,
11:44what a great looking head.
11:46Head's going to be on a ball joint, yeah, so it rotates all the way around.
11:49It's going to look down, it's going to look up,
11:51and it does all the things in the middle.
11:53The upper torso, also going to be on a ball joint, which is nice to see.
11:56You could also kind of bring the torso up a little bit,
11:58just to kind of balance things a bit.
12:00If you bring it down, obviously it's going to draw more attention to the fact that
12:03he's just so squat right here.
12:05Just kind of arch it back just a bit.
12:07But yeah, he does have an upper torso ball joint.
12:09He only seems to have a swivel in his waist.
12:12The arms rotate all the way around,
12:14even though despite the fact he has these little shoulder skirtings,
12:17yeah, his arms easily still rotate.
12:19Can you bring him out in a T-pose?
12:21You can bring him out in a T-pose, so thanks for asking.
12:23He has a swivel there in the bicep.
12:25The figure does have a single hinge, a double hinge I should say, in the elbow.
12:28The thing about the double hinge though,
12:30is just because of the size of mass that he's got here for the bicep,
12:32and equally large forearms,
12:34you can't quite get a full double hinge.
12:36So even though they do pack that on this figure,
12:38you really can't make the most use out of it.
12:41Hands do rotate, yeah, all the way around.
12:43You can hinge them back and forth as well.
12:45Skeletor's legs, in fact, do split.
12:47There's ball joints working behind the scenes.
12:49Hey guys, how you guys doing?
12:51Yo, you doing good? That's good to know.
12:53Okay, stop looking at his crotch.
12:55The figure's legs obviously move forward.
12:57They move back as well.
12:59Three quarters of the way up the thigh, there's a swivel cut.
13:01Swivel, swivel, swivel.
13:03The boots, which again makes me think
13:05you could probably take off the boots and swap them around,
13:07but I don't really feel like I want to Frankenstein the figure.
13:09I mean, I like this.
13:11I like these, and I like certainly the head.
13:13This is the only part for me that isn't working.
13:15But again, he does have an ankle pivot up and down,
13:17an ankle rocker back and forth.
13:19And just in case you're curious,
13:21the evil lord of Snake Mountain
13:23does also in fact have pegs on the bottoms of his feet.
13:25Is it a good looking Skeletor?
13:27It is for the most part.
13:29Now again, it's only my personal opinion.
13:31My opinion may not matter.
13:33You may look at this and think,
13:35you know what, I like the larger swollen torso.
13:37In fact, I really liked it quite a lot for the vintage He-Man.
13:39So if you're that kind of collector
13:41that likes all those things,
13:43you're probably going to love Skeletor.
13:45In the end, I still like the look of this Skeletor.
13:47He was a little bit more expensive,
13:49to try to track this one down.
13:51But again, for a while, I had sort of this Skeletor,
13:53the barbarian Skeletor from the New Eternia,
13:55sort of being my stand-in Skeletor on my shelf.
13:57I may feel like I'm going to end up retiring this,
13:59even though I like the proportions better for this body.
14:01I mean, obviously, at the end of this,
14:03if you guys want really a figure
14:05that looks more like the vintage Skeletor,
14:07the one that we're getting now in the vintage collection
14:09probably is the closest thing to that.
14:11It's not perfect, granted,
14:13because again, some of the issues I already expressed
14:15several times already in this video.
14:17But man, oh man, it's still a fine looking Skeletor to pick up.
14:19If, though, you get the chance to find one.
14:21Now, I expected originally to have to go to eBay
14:23to try to track down a vintage Skeletor.
14:25I was pleased, in fact, to find instead
14:27that Amazon had a listing for him.
14:29That was until, of course, I bought it.
14:31And not realizing right away,
14:33it wasn't actually Amazon that was selling it
14:35or had the listing for Skeletor,
14:37it was a third-party seller through Amazon.
14:39Not that the seller was fraudulent
14:41or it paid way much more
14:43than I was really expecting to pay for Skeletor,
14:45but what usually was the case
14:47when you buy anything from Amazon,
14:49you got like one to three days
14:51before this thing shows up at your doorstep
14:53because it was being sold by the seller instead.
14:55So, unfortunately, though,
14:57because of that, this review got postponed.
14:59Moved up by about that time.
15:01Skeletor finally getting him in hand.
15:03I was pleased to see that, yeah, he does look good.
15:05He's still, though, I don't like
15:07the top of his torso being as big like this.
15:09Now, some of the things I did do
15:11just before we jumped to the turntable
15:13is I did make a few little minor adjustments
15:15to Skeletor. First of all,
15:17I brought his head up as high as I could get
15:19so there's a lot more neck visible here.
15:21I also arched back his body
15:23so his body's stretched a little bit more.
15:25And probably the biggest thing, too,
15:27is the front skirting that he has for his armor.
15:29I pulled it as far down as I could get it
15:31so it's actually now in line with the loincloth.
15:33So he's showing a little bit more of his stomach now
15:35to kind of balance off the fact
15:37that he's so large in the pectoral area.
15:39It's the one thing I really wish
15:41that they wouldn't do with the vintage collection.
15:43So far, we only really have He-Man and Skeletor,
15:45but I'm sure that this body will be used again
15:47for future MOTU vintage figures.
15:49And I really do think that they have to
15:51change the size of the torsos.
15:53Maybe if you liked it for He-Man, you might like it for Skeletor.
15:55I always really thought it was a big issue
15:57facing He-Man, and it still seems to be an issue
15:59that's facing Skeletor. I fixed it.
16:01He looks a little bit better, but it's still something
16:03that's bothering me quite a bit to the figure.
16:05Other than that, though, I really like the look of the head sculpt.
16:07The paint on the skin is really nice.
16:09I like that kind of pastel blue
16:11that they've used with nice little airbrushings
16:13of the darker blue in there as well.
16:15I like the coloring that they've used for the purple armor.
16:17And then he also has monster boots.
16:19It's one of the few times outside of Battle Armor Skeletor
16:21of the 7-inch scale that we can actually say
16:23that Skeletor has monster boots.
16:25What do you guys think of this figure?
16:27Let me know down below in the comments section.
16:29Have you guys had the chance to pick up Vintage Collection Skeletor?
16:31And do you like the fact that his torso is big as it is?
16:33If you guys also did enjoy this video,
16:35you can do it us all and throw it a like.
16:37You guys want to stick around for more, so I hope so.
16:39We are wrapping up things right now,
16:41at least for the Vintage Collection Skeletor,
16:43but there will be more MOTU reviews
16:45coming your way for the rest of this week.
16:47As always, thanks for watching.
16:49See you guys next time.
