08 April - national forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Lots more fine weather to come for most of us as we go through today and tomorrow as well.
00:05Plenty of sunshine on offer and we got off to a bright start.
00:09The earlier satellite image, well I have put radar imagery on here as well,
00:13but you can see it's been completely dry so far.
00:15And the earlier satellite image shows just how clear it's been.
00:19Barely a cloud in the sky for most of us, some high-level cloud around across parts of Wales into southern England.
00:25And there were a few pockets of fog, but with the clear skies it was a frosty start for some of us,
00:29particularly the prone rural spots did get to minus five last night.
00:32As we go through the rest of today though, still some high-level cloud around,
00:36so some hazy sunshine, some milky sunshine across southern parts in particular.
00:40Even elsewhere a few clouds bubbling up here and there,
00:43but most of the cloud really confined to just the far north of Scotland, Orkney Shetland,
00:47the far north of mainland Scotland as well, seeing a bit of cloud here.
00:51Temperature-wise, while they are similar to yesterday, perhaps a little bit higher for some places,
00:56west is best when it comes to the highest temperatures, 17, 18, possibly 19 Celsius.
01:01A little bit fresher further east, the wind is coming in from the North Sea,
01:05so that will make it feel that bit fresher, but it's not especially strong, the wind, at the moment.
01:11Later on, as we go through the evening and overnight,
01:13the cloud across the far north of Scotland, that is gradually going to push its way a little bit further southward.
01:18So northern and eastern Scotland turning cloud here, also down the eastern side of England as well.
01:23Some low cloud, some mist, some murk, some fog perhaps mixed in with this as well.
01:28Further west, clear skies again, so similar to last night, a touch of frost in prone rural spots.
01:34We're talking minus four, minus five maybe over some parts of the shelter glens of Scotland.
01:39And we are also going to see a few pockets of mist and fog perhaps in the west where we get those clearer skies.
01:45But the murkiest weather will be down this eastern part,
01:48and so here it is going to be quite grey for a time first thing tomorrow.
01:52As we go through the day, I'm expecting a lot of this cloud, this murkiness, to burn back,
01:57and so it should turn increasingly sunny.
01:59But some eastern coastal parts here, the cloud's going to be pretty nagging.
02:04It's going to last through much of the day, and as a result, it's actually going to feel quite chilly here.
02:08The winds in the east and also in the south,
02:10but the winds in the east will be a little bit stronger tomorrow than today.
02:14So that's going to add to the chilly feel here.
02:16Elsewhere, well, with plenty of sunshine, particularly as we go through into the afternoon,
02:20it is going to again feel relatively warm, temperatures similar to today.
02:24So mid to high teens for most of us.
02:27And as we go through later on this week, we are going to see a slight shift in our wind direction by Thursday.
02:32And so that means eastern parts, where it's chilly, cloudy on Wednesday, will be markedly warmer,
02:38some places rising by around 10 to 12 degrees.
02:40Most of us, though, on Thursday having a decent, fine and warm day.
02:44By the end of the week, a bit of drizzly rain likely to be pushing its way into the far north of the UK.
02:49Most places, though, staying settled for now.
02:52But over the weekend, we are going to see something, well, it is going to turn a little bit wetter
02:57and some more unsettled weather as we go into the start of next week as well.
03:01Anna will have more information about this and what we can expect with UV pollen levels in her deep dive.
03:06So do check that out.
03:07It will be available on both our app and our YouTube channel later on this afternoon.
03:11Bye-bye.
