Security has been tightened in Jammu and Kashmir after terrorists opened fire on a group of people in the Baisaran valley in Pahalgam on April 22, killing 26 people, mostly tourists.

06:56Bureau Report, India Today.
07:01Defence Minister talking tough today, saying that whatever the people of the country expect, that is something that's going to be delivered vis-Ã -vis retribution that has been promised by this government on not one, but on several occasions.
07:14Let's take a look at what's happening on the ground as far as important meetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is concerned.
07:20Today, the Prime Minister met Defence Secretary, Defence officials met with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, briefing him about the current situation.
07:28Remember, important meetings that also happened over the weekend.
07:31On Sunday, the Prime Minister met the Army Chief, AP Singh.
07:34And on Saturday, which is the 3rd of May, the Prime Minister met with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi.
07:42We have some news coming in at this point in time.
07:44Let's take a look at these developments coming in from the National Capital.
07:47Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached the Prime Minister's office.
08:00He is there after meeting the Defence Secretary.
08:02Piyush is with us for the very latest on that.
08:05Piyush, give us a sense of what is expected, given that the Prime Minister just today had met with the officers of the Defence Secretary and the other officers of the Defence Ministry.
08:15Well, as you are speaking, the Prime Minister is present there at the Prime Minister's office, which is there at Raissena Hills at North Block.
08:28And he is meeting with a few officials of the Prime Minister's office.
08:32What we are learning is that in this meeting, National Security Advisor Ajit Dabal could also take part.
08:39But what we are also given to understand is that Prime Minister is going to stay there at the Prime Minister's office for the next 2.5 hours.
08:47So, it is going to be a long-drawn meeting there at the Prime Minister's office.
08:51And remember that earlier in the day, Prime Minister also met with Defence Secretary R. K. Singh at his residence.
08:57And in the last more than one week since Palgam had an attack, we have seen how PM Narendra Modi holding series of meetings.
09:04He had cut short his Saudi Arabia visit.
09:05And the moment he landed in Delhi, he was briefed by Ajit Dabal, Foreign Minister Rajesh Shankar and other top officials from Foreign Ministry.
09:13After which, the very next day, Prime Minister held the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security.
09:17And series of actions, diplomatic actions were taken against Pakistan.
09:21And after that, multiple meetings have been shared not only by Prime Minister, but also by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Ramit Shah, which are concerned officials.
09:30And the last big meeting which took place at 7LK was the meeting in which Rajnath Singh, Ajit Dabal, all Thai service chiefs were present,
09:40in which, you know, free hand was given to security forces.
09:43The Prime Minister was reportedly quoted where he said that free hands has been given to security officials.
09:51In fact, they have been, you know, told to decide target mode and timing, the way in which they are going to retaliate back to the terror, which is being sponsored by Pakistan.
10:02So, in the last few days, we have seen series of meetings being shared by PM Narendra Modi.
10:05And as we are speaking, he is right now present at the Prime Minister's office, where he is, you know, meeting with a few senior officials of the Prime Minister's office.
10:13And earlier in the day, he met with the Defence Secretary.
10:16Yesterday, he met with Air Marshal Chief, Mr. Apissing.
10:21And the day before yesterday, he met with the Navy Chief.
10:24So, multiple meetings have been shared by PM Narendra Modi.
10:27And as we are talking, he is still there at PMO, where he is holding meetings with a senior officials, or some officials of Prime Minister's office.
10:35Absolutely. These are close one-on-one strategy meetings.
10:38Hectic weekend as well, with these important meetings that were held.
10:42Today, he met with the officers of the Defence Ministry, essentially.
10:46What's brewing is the big question.
10:48And whether are we really edging to, you know, closer to the moment of reckoning is the big question right here.
10:54Piyush, I'm going to thank you for the moment, getting asked those details at this point in time.
10:57More news coming in.
11:07The Russian President is expected to visit India for the annual summit between both countries later this year.
11:14The Ministry of External Affairs has said President Putin called Prime Minister Narendra Modi
11:18and strongly condemned the terror attack in Pehelgaon.
11:21He conveyed the deepest condolences on the loss of innocent lives
11:24and expressed full support to India in the fight against terrorism.
11:28He's emphasised that the perpetrators of the heinous attack and their supporters must be brought to justice.
11:34I'm going straight across to Shivani for more details in that story at this point in time.
11:41Shivani, what more can you tell us?
11:42As far as this meeting is concerned, we have a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs,
11:49importantly conveying the message that was sent out by the President of Russia.
11:53Sneha, today Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with the President Putin
12:02and it was a very elaborate talk that happened.
12:06It was majorly concerning about the Pehelgaon attack
12:09and Prime Minister Narendra Modi not only briefed President about what has happened
12:15and how India is moving ahead with its long-term strategy against terror.
12:18And President Putin not only condemned the act of terror that happened in Pehelgaon
12:23but he also said that India has all the right to take action what it thinks is right.
12:29And in this conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that he is not able to visit Moscow
12:36for the Victory Day parade because remember on 9th of May he had to visit there
12:40but due to the situation, the evolving situation, he had to cancel his plan
12:44and then the Defence Minister also could not visit and another representative will be there.
12:49The MOS Defence, in fact, will be there for the Victory Day parade
12:53and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his invitation to President Putin
12:57for the summit here, for the annual summit for which President Putin would be coming to India later this year.
13:04He is expected to visit India.
13:06And this phone call means more than just a conversation, Sneha.
13:10This is how Russia stands with India in this time when India is preparing to hit the terror nexus hard.
13:17And this also strengthens the ties between both the nations, both the leaders,
13:21the bond between both the leaders and how Russia is a strong support in India,
13:27for India in its fight against terror.
13:30All right, I'm going to thank you for the moment.
13:32Getting in those details is Shivani tracking that big story for us now.
13:3712 days since the Pahlgahm terror attack India isn't staying silent.
13:42In the days since the deadly strike, India has launched a series of diplomatic offensives
13:47aimed straight at Pakistan.
13:49Pakistan has rattled, appealing to the West to mediate peace.
13:52Now the European Union foreign policy chief has called on India and Pakistan to show restraint.
13:59Warning that escalation doesn't help.
14:01External affairs minister has Jashankar hit out at Western hypocrisy.
14:05In a sharp retort, he made it clear that one must preach only what they practice,
14:09adding that India isn't looking for lectures, but equal and respectful partnerships.
14:13Well, look, when we look out at the world, Samir, we look for partners.
14:21We don't look for preachers.
14:24Particularly preachers who don't practice at home what they preach abroad.
14:28Europe, I think, has entered a certain zone of reality check.
14:34Now whether they are able to step up to it or not, it's something we will have to see.
14:40But from our point of view, if we are to develop a partnership,
14:45there has to be some understanding, there has to be some sensitivity,
14:49there has to be a mutuality of interest,
14:52and there has to be a realization of how the world works.
15:01And I think these are all work in progress to differing degrees with different parts of Europe.
15:08So some have moved further, some a little bit less.
15:14I'm going straight across to Gaurav there, the External Affairs Minister.
15:20Gaurav, not mincing any words, saying that, you know, stop preaching us.
15:24We know how to do this. We know how to handle this.
15:26We don't need your endorsement.
15:28And also, the last thing we need at this point in time is preachers.
15:32You know, there's a clear message from the External Affairs Minister.
15:35We need partners, not preachers.
15:37And the West, for a long time, used to preach
15:39something that they did not practice on their own.
15:42They used to preach dialogue and diplomacy,
15:45even to deal with a radical Islamist terror state like Pakistan,
15:48or to deal in the past many times when India had to deal with the situation
15:53along the line of actual control.
15:55But what did Europe do when there was a conflict between Russia and Ukraine?
16:00They immediately, you know, scaled it up and provided weapons to Ukraine to combat Russia.
16:06So the External Affairs Minister says two things.
16:09One, when it came to China and LAC in the past,
16:12that at least India wasn't advising what the West had been advising India to do more trade.
16:18But that was in the past.
16:19In this case, India is very clearly saying that you need to realize our realities.
16:23You know, when those Pakistani terrorists come to Pahalgam,
16:26they single out tourists, ask them their religion,
16:29and then they massacre those who are Hindus and let go those who are Muslims.
16:34It's a very clear signal that the radical Islamist terror state is sending out.
16:38And these are not just non-state actors.
16:40These are actors that are backed by the Pakistani state.
16:44India's very clear appreciation of the situation is
16:47that people, radical Islamists like Asim Munir, are complicit in this.
16:51Now, clearly, there cannot be a dialogue between a perpetrator of terror
16:55and a victim of terror to find a solution.
16:58Where India has been a victim of terror for over four decades,
17:02Pakistan has followed the same playbook.
17:05Initially, in Punjab, where they used the Khalistani elements to bleed Punjab,
17:10then the Kashmiri, the Kashmir issue,
17:12and when they send in radical Islamist terrorists,
17:14India bled across the length and breadth of that country.
17:17For now, it's restricted to Kashmir.
17:18At least there is a fight back on getting the world to understand India's position.
17:24The External Affairs Minister also making it very clear,
17:26some countries understand this more than others.
17:29A very strong statement of support for India,
17:32like you just mentioned, had come from Russian President Vladimir Putin,
17:35not just to take down terrorists, but also those who backed them.
17:39Similar statements have been made by the United States of America,
17:42including by their Secretary of Defense,
17:44and by France's President Macron.
17:46So, some countries in Europe are on board.
17:49Others may take some time, but they will come around.
17:52Look at the way Pakistan gets support from countries that have been helped by India
17:57in a very difficult situation.
17:58Countries like Turkey, for example,
18:00when they sent, you know, an anti-submarine warfare Corvette.
18:04It's symbolic, but yet they did.
18:07Or China saying that China stands with sovereignty of Pakistan.
18:10Sovereignty of Pakistan is not the issue right now.
18:13The issue is, Pakistan's state-sponsored radical Islamist terror.
18:17Is the world united in dealing with it?
18:19Or perhaps India will have to convince the world a little more
18:21while India continues to take action against these radical Islamists
18:26to ensure Indians are kept safe from their terror?
18:29All right, Gaurav, I'm going to leave it at that for the moment.
18:31Gaurav Savan, they're putting that story into perspective.
18:34And even as tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate,
18:40India continues its diplomatic strike against Pakistan,
18:43with sources telling us that India could be soon approaching
18:46terror-funding watchdog FETF,
18:48which is a financial action task force against Pakistan.
18:51In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack,
18:59India is planning twin financial strikes on Pakistan
19:02to throttle support for cross-border terrorism.
19:07Sources say that India is likely to actively pursue
19:10getting Pakistan back onto the Financial Action Task Force,
19:14or the FATF grey list.
19:16India is also expected to raise concerns
19:19over the International Monetary Fund's
19:22$7 billion aid package to Pakistan,
19:25alleging misuse of funds for terror-related activities.
19:29The deal for the three-year aid package
19:31was finalised in July 2024.
19:35Pakistan was put on the grey list
19:37of the global money-laundering and terror-financing watchdog
19:40in June 2018.
19:42Pakistan was removed from the list in October 2022
19:46after it committed to curb terror funding.
19:49Because of being put on the FATF grey list,
19:52Pakistan suffered losses amounting to $38 billion
19:55between 2018 and 2022.
19:59If reinstated,
20:01the FATF grey list status will increase scrutiny
20:04on Pakistan's financial dealings,
20:06potentially restricting foreign investments
20:09and capital inflows into the country.
20:12There will also be strict scrutiny of finances in Pakistan.
20:16The move may even downgrade credit ratings of the country.
20:19And lastly, imports and exports of the country
20:23may become costlier.
20:26India is likely to engage with key FATF member states
20:30in the coming weeks
20:31to garner support for its move
20:33ahead of the next plenary session.
20:34Apart from downgrading diplomatic relations with Pakistan,
20:39India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty,
20:42closed the integrated checkpost at the Atari-Waga border,
20:46cancelled visa services for Pakistani nationals
20:49and closed its airspace to Pakistani flights.
20:52The centre has also banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels
20:57and blocked the Instagram accounts of Pakistani stars.
21:00After the Pahal Gham attack,
21:03multiple global voices have come India's way
21:07and global partners are acknowledging
21:09that Pakistan has been involved in terror attack in Pahal Gham.
21:14India will be formally going and pushing Pakistan
21:17to the grey list with the help of the global partners of FATF.
21:22This is Shivani Sharma with camera person Abhishek Singh
21:25for India Today.
21:27All right, let's tell you about the numerous times
21:29that Pakistan has violated cease-fire
21:32in Naushera on the 4th of May.
21:34This is what happened, violation of cease-fire
21:36and it's been endless since again on the 4th of May
21:38in Kupwara and Rajoye on the 3rd of May,
21:41in Sundarbani on the 3rd,
21:43Mendel Sektor on the 3rd,
21:44in Aknur on the 2nd,
21:46in Uri on the 2nd again, 2nd of May,
21:49Kupwara on the 2nd,
21:50in Aknur, Poonch on the 1st of May,
21:53Naushera, two saw violations,
21:55by Pakistan on the 1st of May,
21:57Kupwara again on the 1st of May,
22:00in Pargwal, the international border,
22:02on the 30th of April,
22:03seven days after the attack in Pahal Gham,
22:05on the 28th of April,
22:06we saw this happen in Kupwara again,
22:08in Neelam on the 26th of April,
22:10in Kupwara again on the 27th,
22:13Lipa Valley saw violations on the 24th of April,
22:17Tutmarigali on the 26th of April,
22:19Bara Mulla on the 28th of April,
22:22Uri on the 22nd of April,
22:24Pahal Gham terror attack, remember,
22:26took place on the 22nd of April,
22:28Poonch again saw violations,
22:31by Pakistan on the 27th,
22:33Naushera on the 29th of April,
22:36Sundarbani, like I said,
22:37on the 29th,
22:37Aknur on the 28th and 29th.
22:42Pakistan, meanwhile,
22:43continues to violate these violations,
22:45actually,
22:46for the eighth consecutive day.
22:48Indian forces have intensified counter-terror operations,
22:51jungle searches and combing operations underway.
22:54Additional troops are deployed,
22:56and 25 overground workers,
22:58or OGWs,
23:00have been booked under the Public Safety Act.
23:03Over 250 people are under surveillance,
23:05as villages demand firm action against Pakistan.
23:08India Today's Shivani Sharma brings you this exclusive ground report
23:12from Naugam sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
23:23As India prepares for a long-term action
23:25against the terror nexus in Pakistan,
23:29in Jammu and Kashmir,
23:30there is heightened security
23:31after two weeks of Pahal Gham terror attack.
23:34We are right now in North Kashmir,
23:36and this is an interior belt of Anwara district,
23:40where you see the security forces,
23:43especially the Jammu-Kashmir police,
23:45is on a high alert mode.
23:47The operations against the OGWs have been intensified,
23:51and the movements are being thoroughly checked and scanned.
23:54This is the operation that goes on 24 into 7
23:59in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir,
24:02and especially in Kashmir,
24:03after the Pahal Gham attack,
24:05there is a special vigil on each and every nook and corner.
24:10The Pahal Gham attack was done by the people of Pahal Gham.
24:17After that,
24:18our forces are prepared for a long-term action.
24:21The Jammu and Kashmir police,
24:23the Army, the CRPF,
24:25all are completely deployed.
24:28And our forces are prepared for a long-term action.
24:32You see the movements,
24:56as I was telling you that this road leads further
24:58to the border areas.
24:59There are several border villages
25:01from which the ceasefire violations
25:03have been reported in past 11 days.
25:06So the vigil is high.
25:08The operations are intensified.
25:10The forces are on a high alert mode.
25:13Any kind of movement is being checked thoroughly.
25:17And more than 25 OGWs,
25:20the overground workers,
25:21have already been detained only in Hanwara.
25:25And 250 suspects are also under scanner.
25:28So the operation goes on.
25:31And one more important thing,
25:33Hanwara has been a place where the IED
25:35was also neutralized a few weeks back
25:38by the security forces.
25:39It's a very sensitive zone.
25:46And in Jammu and Kashmir,
25:48in several places,
25:50we see similar operations happening.
25:53And this road leads to Nogam border.
25:56This is the area which leads to Nogam border,
25:59a sensitive area where we've seen
26:01how the preparedness has gone up
26:03after the ceasefire violations.
26:05The villagers are being made aware of the SOPs
26:09of the situation right now.
26:12And this is one such naka
26:14where you see heightened security.
26:16And similar is the picture
26:18in a number of places in Bali.
26:20This is Shivani Sharma with camera person
26:22Nasir Aziz Khan for India Today from Hanwara.
26:28I'm going straight across to Shivani,
26:29getting in more details of the story,
26:31joining us from Ground Zero at this point in time.
26:33Shivani, talk to us about what do you see.
26:35We just saw your ground reports
26:36and how you've spoken about
26:37tightened security.
26:38Of course, India being the ante
26:40at this point in time.
26:41But a big question mark on
26:43where are the perpetrators
26:45of the terror attack
26:46that took place 13 days ago,
26:4822nd of April.
26:50All of those people have still not been found.
26:52Give us a sense of
26:53what are you picking
26:54from the ground right now?
26:59Sneha, where we are reporting from
27:01right now is the interior of Kashmir.
27:03We are visiting currently
27:05the North Kashmir side
27:06where the ceasefire violations
27:08have already taken place
27:09since last 11 days.
27:10We've reported from those villages.
27:12We've spoken to these villagers.
27:13They say that they have been hearing
27:15and witnessing the ceasefire violations.
27:17And when we talk about
27:19the search operations
27:21that are going on 24 and 27,
27:23it has highly intensified here.
27:26Sneha, when we talk of
27:27the Pahelgaam perpetrators,
27:28the police and the other security agencies
27:30along with the army,
27:31the forces are on a lookout for them.
27:33And they are,
27:35the combing operations are going on.
27:38But in all the other places
27:39in Jammu and in Kashmir,
27:41the OGWs are being hit hard.
27:43The suspects are being checked
27:45and the intense operations
27:47are going on.
27:48There are certain directions
27:50from the government
27:50and from the army,
27:51the security forces,
27:52not to reveal the movement
27:54and not to reveal
27:55what's actually currently happening.
27:57So we have to be cautious
27:58while reporting.
27:59But I must tell you
28:00that this is one of the biggest
28:03operations against terror
28:04that's taking place
28:05on ground here
28:06in Jammu and Kashmir.
28:08We also see how the army,
28:10the navy and the air force
28:11have been preparing
28:11for a long-term strategic action
28:13against terror.
28:14They've been speaking
28:15to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
28:17They've been telling him
28:18the progress,
28:19briefing him about
28:20what are the plans.
28:21And this whole plan
28:23is under process.
28:25And while this is under process,
28:26everybody wants to know
28:27when the action will take place.
28:28So the assurances
28:29are also coming
28:30from the Prime Minister
28:32and from the Defence Minister
28:33in different statements
28:34as we've heard
28:35the Defence Minister saying
28:36that he's bound
28:38to give a karara jawab,
28:39a mootod jawab.
28:41So all this is happening
28:42on ground
28:43where we are reporting from.
28:45We are seeing action
28:46against terror.
28:47We are seeing intense
28:48combing operations
28:49and casso drills
28:50that are happening
28:51in the jungles
28:51of Jammu and Kashmir
28:53where the security
28:54is heightened.
28:56India is responding
28:56to the ceasefire violations.
28:58along the line of control
28:59while the preparations
29:01are still on
29:02for a strategic action
29:03against terror.
29:04All right.
29:05I'm going to leave it
29:05to that for the moment.
29:06Shivani getting us
29:07up to speed
29:07with those details
29:08as far as action
29:09in the ground
29:10is concerned.
29:11She's telling us
29:11about how security
29:12has been tightened
29:13across this entire region.
29:17And seeing with this,
29:18a major water crisis
29:19is now unfolding
29:20across Pakistan.
29:21After suspending
29:22the Indus Water Treaty,
29:23India is now resuming
29:25six stalled dam projects.
29:27This move comes
29:28just a day after.
29:30India blocked
29:30two key dams
29:31on the Chenabh River
29:32for Pakistan.
29:34Take a look.
29:34After the recent attack
29:45on tourists
29:46in Pahlgaam
29:46by Pakistan's
29:48state-sponsored
29:48radical Islamist terror,
29:50India is striking back.
29:54After putting
29:54the Indus Water
29:55Street in abeyance,
29:57the Narendra Modi
29:57government
29:58is taking more
29:59concrete steps
30:00to block water
30:01flowing into Pakistan.
30:04India has closed
30:05the gates
30:06at two major dams
30:08on the Chenabh River.
30:09Bagleyar and Salal
30:11massively reducing
30:12the flow of water
30:13into Pakistan.
30:15This has put
30:16Islamabad
30:17in a state of panic.
30:20And India's actions
30:21don't just stop here.
30:23The Narendra Modi
30:24government
30:24is also planning
30:25to shut down
30:26water flow
30:26from the Kishan Ganga
30:28dam
30:28on Jhelam River.
30:30With the water
30:31levels dropping
30:32and pressure mounting,
30:35Pakistan
30:35is crying foul.
30:39We are our
30:40and we will remain
30:42or we will be
30:43or we will be
30:47our water
30:50or our blood
30:52or our blood.
30:55From a diplomatic
30:56offensive
30:57to exploring
30:58military options
30:59India
31:00is making
31:00it clear
31:01that Pakistan
31:02state-sponsored
31:03radical Islamist
31:04terror
31:05will no longer
31:06be tolerated.
31:07This time
31:27it's not just
31:29retribution
31:30it's calibrated
31:32retribution.
31:33So this is a very
31:36stern message
31:36to Pakistan
31:37that we are not
31:38going to tolerate
31:39terrorism
31:40that is being
31:41sponsored by
31:42Pakistan against
31:43India
31:43and we can give
31:45befitting reply
31:46to Pakistan.
31:46We can stop
31:47water to Pakistan
31:49and we can deprive
31:50Pakistan of
31:51every drop of
31:52water of all
31:53three western rivers.
31:55with video
31:56journalist
31:56Neeraj Kumar
31:56this is Sunil Bhatt
31:57reporting from
31:58Akhnur in
31:59Jammu and Kashmir
32:00for India
32:01today.
32:03And my colleague
32:04Gaurav Sarvant
32:04is explaining
32:05the Indus
32:06water treaty.
32:07Take a look.
32:07The Jal Shakti
32:11Ministry is
32:12working on
32:13a feasibility
32:13project on
32:14better harnessing
32:16the waters of
32:17the Indus
32:17rivers for
32:18the benefit
32:19not just of
32:19the people of
32:20Jammu and
32:20Kashmir and
32:21Ladakh in
32:22the short
32:22term but in
32:23the medium
32:24and long
32:24term for
32:25the rest of
32:25the country.
32:26So Jal Shakti
32:27Minister C.R.
32:28Patil has been
32:29instructed by
32:29Union Home
32:30Minister Amit
32:31Shah to
32:31work to ensure
32:32India works
32:33quickly on
32:34multiple projects.
32:35Multiple
32:36projects that
32:36Pakistan was
32:37objecting to
32:38and throughout.
32:40River
32:41desilting for
32:42example.
32:43Reservoir
32:43flushing projects
32:44for example.
32:45And these are
32:45just some
32:46instances that
32:47India is now
32:49going to start
32:50working on very
32:51fast.
32:51Pakistan has
32:52repeatedly objected
32:53to desilting
32:54projects.
32:54Sources are
32:55telling India
32:55today that
32:56multiple projects
32:57that have been
32:57held up due to
32:58Pakistan's
32:59objections.
33:00Now these
33:00projects will
33:01be taken up
33:02on a war
33:03footing for
33:03better utilization
33:04of the waters
33:05of the Indus
33:06rivers and
33:07not just
33:08the Satluj,
33:09Ravi and
33:10Bayas,
33:11the eastern
33:12rivers that
33:12are meant
33:12for India
33:13but also
33:13Chinab,
33:14Jhelam and
33:15Indus,
33:16the western
33:17rivers.
33:18India can
33:18officially
33:19utilize 20%
33:20of these
33:21waters.
33:22Pakistan didn't
33:22even permit
33:23that.
33:23Imagine.
33:24It would
33:25cry foul.
33:26It would go
33:27to the court
33:28of arbitration.
33:29It would go
33:30to the World
33:30Bank.
33:31It would object.
33:32It would
33:32delay.
33:34But now
33:34the treaty
33:34is in
33:35abundance.
33:36So for
33:36the betterment
33:37of people
33:37of Jammu
33:38and Kashmir
33:38and remember
33:39Chief Minister
33:40of Jammu
33:40and Kashmir
33:41Omar Abdullah
33:41has already
33:42said the
33:42Indus
33:42Waters
33:43treaty was
33:44not in
33:45favor of
33:45the people
33:46of Jammu
33:46and Kashmir.
33:47It did
33:47not benefit
33:48the people
33:48of Jammu
33:48and Kashmir.
33:49This is
33:50one more
33:50step that
33:50the Narendra
33:51Modi government
33:52is taking.
33:53It's not
33:53just about
33:54the eastern
33:54rivers like
33:55I said
33:55Satluj,
33:55Ravi and
33:56Bias but
33:56also western
33:57rivers,
33:57Chinab,
33:57Jhelam and
33:58Indus.
33:59The rivers
34:03there are
34:03multiple
34:03projects
34:04that were
34:05cleared
34:05post-Pulvama
34:06some in
34:072019
34:08some in
34:082022
34:09they are
34:10now being
34:10speeded up.
34:12What is
34:12India doing?
34:13And you're
34:13hearing this
34:14on India
34:15today and
34:16this is
34:16Pakistan's
34:17worst nightmare
34:18coming true.
34:20India is
34:20working on
34:21building 10
34:22hydropower
34:23projects that's
34:24totaling 6.8
34:26gigawatts in
34:27Jammu and
34:27Kashmir and
34:28in Himachal
34:29Pradesh to
34:29fully utilize
34:30its share of
34:31the waters
34:31under that
34:321960 Indus
34:33Waters Treaty
34:34with Pakistan.
34:35The projects
34:36being undertaken
34:37and that's a
34:38huge investment
34:39that's already
34:40being made.
34:41It's 68,000
34:42crore rupees
34:43by NHPC
34:45Limited.
34:46Now they're
34:47part of the
34:47plans to
34:47exercise our
34:48right,
34:49India's
34:50right to
34:51stop excess
34:52water from
34:52flowing into
34:53Pakistan.
34:54The projects
34:55are being
34:55constructed by
34:56the public
34:58sector undertaking.
34:59Let me list
34:59out some of
35:00these projects.
35:00it will be
35:02heartening for
35:02you and
35:03it will be
35:04a nightmare
35:06for those
35:07radical Islamist
35:08terrorists because
35:08they now have
35:09to choose.
35:10They either want
35:10water or
35:12they want to
35:12continue bleeding
35:13India.
35:14Blood and
35:15water cannot
35:15flow together,
35:16that's very
35:16clear.
35:17So, the
35:181000 megawatt
35:19Pakadul
35:20project,
35:21Pakadul
35:21project,
35:22the 850
35:23megawatt
35:24Ratle
35:25project,
35:26the 624
35:27megawatt
35:29Kiru
35:29project,
35:30the 540
35:31megawatt
35:32Kwar
35:32project.
35:33These are
35:34projects in
35:35the union
35:36territories of
35:37Jammu and
35:37Kashmir.
35:38India plans
35:39to build
35:391856
35:41megawatts
35:42in
35:43Saval
35:43Court.
35:44Now that's
35:44to harness
35:44that kind
35:45of electricity
35:45is in Jammu
35:46and Kashmir.
35:47930
35:48megawatts
35:48of
35:49Kirthai,
35:50this is
35:51part 2
35:52in Jammu
35:52and Kashmir.
35:53Dugar in
35:54Himachal Pradesh,
35:55that's 500
35:55megawatts.
35:56Then there's
35:57Uri 1
35:58and there's
35:58stage 2
35:59of it in
35:59Jammu and
36:00Kashmir.
36:00Then the
36:01Dulhasti
36:01stage 2
36:02which is
36:03260 megawatts.
36:04These are
36:05some of the
36:05projects I'm
36:06telling you
36:06in Jammu
36:07and Kashmir.
36:08But that's
36:08not all.
36:10The Narendra
36:10Modi government
36:11has cleared
36:118 hydropower
36:13projects of
36:13144 megawatts
36:15on the
36:15Indus River
36:16and its
36:17tributaries
36:18even in
36:19Ladakh.
36:20Now the
36:20project,
36:21the highest
36:22of these
36:22projects that
36:23will come
36:23up in
36:23Kargil and
36:24in lay
36:25districts of
36:26Ladakh.
36:27So the
36:28Durbuk
36:28Shok project,
36:29it's 19
36:30megawatts but
36:31then it's good
36:32for the people
36:33of Ladakh.
36:34In
36:34Shanku village,
36:35it's 18.5
36:37megawatts.
36:37Now this is
36:38music to the
36:40ears of people
36:41who live in
36:42either Durbuk
36:43or Shok
36:44region.
36:45It's great
36:45for environment
36:46because now
36:47it's not that
36:47expensive diesel
36:48electricity that
36:49they will have
36:51to generate
36:52power through
36:53diesel generators.
36:54Whether it's
36:55the security
36:55forces, the
36:56army that's
36:57deployed there
36:57or the
36:57locals, they
36:58can get water
37:00from the Indus
37:01rivers, electricity
37:02from the Indus
37:02rivers and the
37:04tributaries.
37:04Shanku for
37:05example, Neemu
37:06project, Neemu
37:07chilling project,
37:0724 megawatts.
37:09Rongdo project,
37:1012 megawatts.
37:11Ratannag, it's
37:1210.5 megawatts.
37:13Hydropower project
37:14that's been cleared
37:15for Leh.
37:16The Mangdum
37:17Sangra project
37:17again, 19 megawatts.
37:19The Kargil
37:20Hundarman, it's
37:2125 megawatts.
37:22Imagine how
37:23this will be a
37:24game changer for
37:25the people of
37:26Ladakh, of
37:28Leh, of
37:29Sanku, of
37:30Minji, of
37:32Kargil.
37:33It's amazing
37:34what will happen
37:35and there is no
37:36Pakistan that can
37:36object to it
37:37anymore.
37:39They've been
37:39cleared for the
37:40Kargil region.
37:40It's a huge step
37:41that's been taken.
37:43So under the
37:43Indus Waters
37:44Treaty when
37:44Pakistan was
37:45granted waters
37:46of the western
37:47river, Indus
37:47Chinab and
37:48Jhelam for
37:48unrestricted
37:49use, India
37:50was granted
37:50the eastern
37:51rivers, Ravi
37:52Bias and
37:52Satluj, India
37:54gives 80% of
37:55the western
37:55river water
37:56for Pakistan.
37:58It does not
37:58even harness the
37:59remaining 20%.
38:00Now there are
38:01plans, some
38:02already there,
38:04some that are
38:05now going to be
38:06speeded up.
38:07what is the
38:08advantage that
38:09India now has
38:10and I want to
38:10explain this to
38:11you.
38:12You're looking at
38:12those projects,
38:13you're looking at
38:14the eastern river
38:14projects and
38:15look at the
38:15eastern river
38:16projects closely.
38:18The
38:18Satluj, Ravi and
38:20Bias, the five
38:22rivers that flow to
38:23Punjab, Satluj, Ravi,
38:24Bias, Chinab,
38:25Jhelam, Punjab and
38:27Jammu and Kashmir and
38:28undivided Punjab
38:29initially.
38:29So look, eastern
38:31rivers for India,
38:32western rivers for
38:33Pakistan, but
38:34Uri, Baglehar, Salal,
38:37Pakaldul, Chutak,
38:40Neemu, Basgo, these
38:41are some of the
38:42projects, some that
38:43were held up, some
38:44that government has
38:45cleared and some
38:46where work will go
38:47on.
38:49What's the big
38:49advantage?
38:51No inspection by
38:53Pakistani officials
38:54needed now.
38:54So Pakistan cannot
38:55stop your projects
38:56at all.
38:57It can do nothing.
38:58No restriction on
39:00flushing of rivers.
39:01For example, the
39:01Kishan Ganga
39:02reservoir.
39:03Pakistan would
39:04object to it.
39:04So if you can't
39:05flush, if you
39:06can't desilt, then
39:07you can't hold
39:08water or hold
39:09sufficient water.
39:10You can't generate
39:11enough electricity.
39:12No operational
39:13restriction on
39:13filling of reservoir.
39:15You can flush when
39:15you want, you can
39:16fill just when you
39:17want and not just
39:18in the month of
39:18August, the peak
39:20monsoon period.
39:21No data to be
39:22shared with Pakistan.
39:25Moving on, she's
