The terrorists, backed by Pakistan’s deep state—the army and ISI—attacked Kashmir. It is feared that this will have a lasting impact on tourism in Kashmir valley. This attack on tourists in Baisaran wasn’t just a strike against civilians; it was an assault on India’s growing stability, its global image, and the local population’s desire for normalcy. Tourists visiting Kashmir have expressed concerns also. Oneindia's Pankaj Mishra speaks to Girish Aryam from Benglauru. Girish was in Srinagar and says that India needs to stand in solidarity with Kashmir.

00:34That's what the attack is today on tourists.
00:36This is the right time. I hope to get back up here.
00:39Hello and welcome to this special broadcast on the dastardly act of terror in Jammu and Kashmir.
00:4528 people killed, all of them tourists, in the picturesque Pahalgam.
00:50The person whom you see on the screen is Girish Arling from Jammu.
00:55He and his wife were also in Pahalgam a day before the attacks happened.
01:00That is on Monday.
01:02Girish left Pahalgam on Monday.
01:04He was on his way to Sonmarg when he got the news on Tuesday around 3.30pm
01:09that there has been an attack in Pahalgam.
01:12Girish, first of all, thank you so much for speaking to OneIndia.
01:15I really salute your courage and your belief that your experience, what you saw, what you feel there.
01:23You are still in Srinagar.
01:25Thank you so much for sharing it with our viewers, with the country on the whole.
01:30Thank you, Girish. I hope you and your wife are also doing well.
01:34First things first, what is the scenario as of now in Srinagar?
01:39We see people roaming around in the backdrop and you are at a tourist side in Srinagar.
01:47Yeah, presently I am in Tulipgadan sir.
01:52Today morning I have been to Lal Chauk around 10.30pm.
01:58There is only few localites roaming full security every 100m or 50m.
02:04CRPS and Jammu Kashmir police are there.
02:07And some localites, today Jammu Kashmir is banned to condemn yesterday's incident.
02:15So all the shops are closed, hotels are closed.
02:17But tourist spots are opened.
02:19Now I am in Tulipgadan, thousands of people are there.
02:23We are not getting parking to car the park.
02:27That much crowd is there.
02:29Despite of this terror attack, people are not scared yet.
02:33Just before Tulipgadan had been to Shankracharya temple, there also a huge crowd is there.
02:39Okay.
02:40Well, it goes on to prove that these cowardly, dastardly acts of terror are not going to derail the peace process,
02:47derail the very spirit of Kashmiriyat and the people of Kashmir and the people of India are not shaken.
02:54And they would continue, as usual, and not allow the nefarious intentions of the terrorists and their handlers sitting in Pakistan to come to fruition.
03:04Girish, also tell us, when you were in Pahalgam, obviously no one had anticipated this kind of attack.
03:13There is peace in Kashmir Valley after the abrogation of Article 370.
03:17How was your experience being in Pahalgam?
03:21Did you or anyone ever even think that an attack of such kind can happen?
03:28No, sir. As my remember is right, I think in 2000, there is an attack on Amarnath Ayat-ray.
03:38After that, no one, no attacks on tourists. Actually, it was attacks on military and police, but never they attacked on tourists.
03:46So, everyone is safe and feels safe. And tourists, thousands, lakhs together, tourists are visiting Kashmir.
03:54Then, after 370, there are so many development works are going on.
03:57So, tourists think that it's safe right now. And they visited.
04:02That yesterday's incentives was too unfortunate. And no one expected that one.
04:07Right. Girish, generally, if I am not wrong, the tourists, when they go to Kashmir,
04:13at times they take a tourism package or they travel on their own.
04:17But you are always surrounded with tourists.
04:20When you are talking to other tourists from different parts of the country, what is their opinion?
04:25What are they saying?
04:27It's a mixture of opinions. Some of the people are hurrying to go back to their native place.
04:33And presently, there are thousands of people are still in Srinagar and enjoying their trip.
04:41It's a mix of things. Even I spoke with some of the Karnataka people.
04:48Some of the people are there. Let it be okay. We will enjoy our trip and go back after some time.
04:53And some of the things that we will go booking the flight tomorrow and we are heading back to Bangalore.
05:00Okay. Is there any spike or surge in the flight tickets? Or you haven't checked?
05:07Yeah. I know I checked yesterday simply because I am not planning to go back because of this intent.
05:14But by curiosity, I just checked it out. It was showing 25,000 rupees today flight.
05:19But I heard the news that the government of India and the government of Karnataka has arranged flights to Mumbai and Delhi and even Bangalore.
05:29Maybe it is in tomorrow. But I don't know the timings at all.
05:33Right. The DGCA has also, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has also told the airline operators not to increase the flight prices in the wake of the attacks if people want to come back.
05:45Girish, you are from Karnataka. Very sad news coming in from Karnataka.
05:50Two to three people have been killed who belong to Karnataka.
05:54What message would you like to share for your brothers and sisters in your state?
06:01Actually, it is a sad incident. Actually, it shouldn't happen.
06:06But as per my personal experience here in Kashmir, people are so soft and so thin.
06:13But as you know, every society, there are few people are bad people.
06:18They wanted to harm somebody else. And as per my personal experience,
06:23that harm people wanted to destroy the Kashmir tourism so that they will get the under their control as of before 370 situation.
06:35That's what they attack yesterday on tourists.
06:38But my message is that if you have a courage, you can just stay and enjoy.
06:44There is just so many of the security in Srinagar and across the surrounding of the Sunmarga.
06:53Because morning I have been to Sunmarga while I am going, there are so many CRPF.
06:58Morning there was no incident. Still CRPF police are there on the road.
07:02Even they are checking the bomb detecting machine.
07:06They are checking on the road, whether any bombs are on the road, something like that.
07:11I hope it's a routine work there every day they are doing.
07:15That much security is there.
07:17Okay. One final question, Girish Aryam, before I let you go.
07:23The timing of this particular incident is such that the schools are getting closed for summer holidays and a lot of people come from different parts of the country to Jammu and Kashmir.
07:38And that has been the bread and butter, the backbone of Kashmir's economy.
07:43You are there currently. Do you feel that there is some sort of fear that others won't come or the businesses that are there will not cater or attend to the incoming visitors?
07:55Or maybe there could be some sort of decline in tourists. Do you feel that in the coming months?
08:02I hope, sir, maybe another six months, one year, Kashmir will suffer with less tourists.
08:07It might be because a lot of people are scared.
08:11Even I am getting calls from yesterday afternoon, evening from five o'clock when all the news channels are telecasting news.
08:20I am getting a lot of calls, a lot of WhatsApp messages, whether I am safe or whether I am affected or the situation.
08:28Even today also I am getting calls from my friends, relatives, parents.
08:33I hope some, I hope I am seeing that so many people are rushing towards the Srinagar airport.
08:40Srinagar airport is presently full of rush. A lot of thousands of people are going back.
08:47Grish, you are at the epicenter where it all happened.
08:53What are people talking about, you know, how India should respond to it?
09:00Any, any emotional outbursts that you see or any, anything that you guys discussed amongst yourself that what can India do as of now?
09:09This has happened before also in Kashmir.
09:12And India has retaliated also with surgical strikes and everything.
09:17Do you think the people this time around are more demanding to have a permanent solution to this problem?
09:27I have two opinions, sir. One from government said, government should take a strict action against this one.
09:33Might be another airstrike or something like that to teach the lesson to Pakistan and control this one.
09:41And second thing as per my personal opinion, presently India should stand back with Kashmir.
09:48So that we can give them a confidence that we will with you at any cost.
09:53Then with the government, with the tourist so that Kashmir people will get confidence so that they will not think another second opinion.
10:05Presently as of yesterday, I was in Dal Lake. I was talking with a boat rider. He was a Muslim guy.
10:13He is appreciating presently development work in Kashmir. He is appreciating general government work.
10:22He is telling, we will with Modi. That is what his message is. He was a Muslim.
10:28But he is giving that message. That's what I hope. It's my personal opinion.
10:33Person to personal opinion changes. But I think we should stand back with Kashmir people.
10:38So that they will also get confidence on India. And they will be with us forever.
10:43If possible, government should take proper action. If possible, we should get.
10:49This is the right time. I hope to get back the POC.
10:52Giresh, thank you so much for your insights, for your sharing your thoughts and also for putting up a brave front and telling not just our countrymen,
11:03but the world, that life goes on and Kashmir, tourism, the spirit of Indianness is not going to go anywhere when it comes to these dust hardly terror acts.
11:17The only way that this whole thing would end is in a beffetting reply to the puppet traders, to the handlers sitting there in Pakistan.
11:26And it's only the government of India who decide which option to choose from the several options that are present there.
11:35Thank you so much. We wish you a very best for the rest of your trip in Jammu and Kashmir.
11:42And we wish all the people of Kashmir all the very best.
11:46And our condolences and our prayers are there with those who have lost their lives.
11:51Thank you so much, Girish, for speaking to One India.
11:54Thank you, sir. Thank you very much.
