01:08Good evening and welcome to Five Live
01:14Thank you very much for tuning in this evening to India Today Television
01:16I am Pooja Shali
01:18This special telecast focusing on what unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir
01:22Exactly six days ago
01:24At this hour, the aftermath of the Pehelgam terror carnage was visible
01:28Six days on, many questions and a hope
01:32What will the government do?
01:33I am going to tell you all about different multiple crackdowns and strategies with regard to security and more
01:38First, the headlines
01:39Jammu Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah
01:40The death of Pehelgam
01:42Victims of special session of JNK Assembly was organised
01:43In which a resolution was passed and the Chief Minister added
01:44Will not talk of statehood at least at this time
01:46I have lost face to ask for it
01:47victims a special session of JNK assembly was organized in which a resolution was passed
01:51and the chief minister added, we'll not talk of statehood at least at this time.
01:55I've lost face to ask for it.
02:17Most politicians are on the same page, but there are some in the Congress who are giving out bizarre statements.
02:27A Congress veteran, Saifuddin Soz, claims, Pakistan says there's no role in terror.
02:33We must accept it. We must not strike the water that goes to Pakistan.
02:37Congress shocked, distancing from Soz's remark, Rahul Gandhi, Malik Arjun Khadge, reportedly upset by these comments.
02:44There's been a gag order that's been issued too, at least with regard to Motormouth leaders.
02:53Six days on, where are the terrorists who indulged and carried out the Pehelgham carnage?
02:59Still holed up in the jungle surrounding the meadow.
03:02Armed forces were on the verge of cornering the terrorists.
03:04But remember, these are difficult terrains to operate in. Constant hideouts are being changed.
03:10Pakistan terrorists are still somewhere very close to the massacre site.
03:14Meanwhile, the top leadership of the country have been in a huddle.
03:20Key Modi Rajnath meeting has happened this afternoon.
03:23And at Prime Minister's residence, PM Modi was briefed on the ongoing operations, security status, overall preparation of the armed forces.
03:32In other news, India, France, signing a game-changer, 63,000 crore rupees Rafale deal.
03:41Rafale jets to be stationed on board INS Vikram.
03:44New video emerges of what happened in Pehelgham.
04:05Just imagine this for a second. Hundreds of people from across India on a vacation when suddenly they hear gunshots and run for cover.
04:14And there is no cover in a meadow like this.
04:16And yet, whatever little they could find, whether there was perhaps a temporary shop that was set up.
04:23This is right where the massacre was happening.
04:27Mobile footage of some of the eyewitnesses that India today has accessed.
04:30People hiding for cover as some of them, just like them, are being massacred.
04:36They are going to be massacred.
05:06Thank you very much.
05:36you can clearly understand panic and I can also hear some of the Kashmiris who are hiding for
05:59cover as well it's it's a realization that they're beginning to have from what I can gather
06:04what we hear is that clearly they have come to kill us something is happening what is that they can
06:09hear gunshots in the background remember this looks like a temporary shop let's try and assert
06:14the details in it me Farid joining me from Srinagar Arvind Oja also joining me live on this Farid you
06:20first take me through this video help explain because in a meadow like this in Baisaran you
06:24and I know that there wouldn't be there wouldn't be areas to hide for cover
06:28well absolutely if you're in the meadow and if you're in the middle of the meadow then you also
06:40you'll have to run a lot in fact almost three four hundred meters to reach the forest area or reach
06:47the tree line which obviously you can use as a shield but in this case while some tourists managed to do
06:53it the others who were on the other and other side or who were close to this court of the RF they could
06:59not run and this video is another testimony of the mayhem that broke loose now I as someone who has lived
07:06in Kashmir seen this on and off I know the difference between a gunshot and a firecracker but in this case
07:13tourists who come from various parts have not been exposed to this kind of a life they have no idea
07:19initially they think these are probably firecrackers which could be part of what Baisaran has to offer
07:25but all of a sudden when panic happens when they hear cries of people who have fallen their families
07:32they then most of them realize that something is terribly wrong and then they run for cover this
07:38also tells you that the local responders the Godewalas the the people who sell small merchandise there they
07:45also did not desert these tourists they are with these tourists telling them to lie low and while
07:50some are communicating with each other saying that their customer has also been injured so this is
07:58the kind of conversation but clearly panic mayhem and heart-wrenching scenes where these tourists are
08:04in a huddle some are searching for their kids others for other family members and then basically trying
08:11to run away from the line of fire so uh this again tells you what happened that day and as we get more
08:18and more videos we uh the picture get clear gets clear that how it all unfolded and how we tell me
08:25this because these are such crucial eyewitness accounts and I understand there would be many survivors
08:30who are still living through the nightmare remember the shock and trauma to be able to understand that
08:35you've miraculously escaped this massacre the 26 other men have had to face uh farid tell me this
08:44how will the investigators be looking at these crucial eyewitness accounts possibly and I'm sure
08:49even though it's not out in the public domain that whether it's nia jammu kashmir police
08:53are reaching out to as many and they have access to many more footage to be able to ascertain what exactly happened
08:59well puja this case is now the investigation is firmly in the domain of the nia multiple nia teams are
09:10camping in uh uh belgaam they're being held by the local admin by the police and I can tell you that uh
09:17first of first uh we've been told that all the godewalas everyone who was there in by certain locals uh
09:24be the service providers anyone who was there has been connected with their numbers their details their
09:31accounts have been registered now of course that you will also have the accounts of the crucial
09:36eyewitnesses the tourists who could be uh really of great help in identifying uh the people who came
09:42in firing so all these things are happening that is the other part of the investigation and then also
09:48the uh the evidence at the crime scene including the bullets the footmarks everything
09:54is being scanned searched and foreign investigation is underway now that is the nia style of doing
10:01things but on the other hand you also have the other operation where this falcon squad of the trf is
10:07on the run the security forces are on their hot trail and uh hundreds of troops are on it uh
10:13obviously a lot of pressure from the government of india because they want results the home ministers
10:19made it clear that the belt forces need to produce results because has happened but now it's not the
10:25time to discuss that's nine is the time for action and they need to produce results but lessons will
10:30have to be learned what exactly happened what exactly happened in a meadow and that pressure those
10:35questions also will be asked and rightly so just listen in again what happened in behelgaam this is a
10:40fresh video india today's access investigators are looking at the store how people innocent tourists huddle for
10:57here in the store how people innocent people innocent people innocent people innocent people
11:16Oh
11:18Oh
11:4826 men as we look at these visuals remember massacre 25 of them identified and targeted
12:04as the survivor accounts pakistan sponsored terrorists possibly with local active terrorist
12:09support as well were able to shoot dead at point blank range innocent people tourists on vacation
12:16lashkar terrorist other token is one of the prime suspects but the hunt is on clearly not only with
12:21regard to the terrorists still hiding in the jungles but also a retaliatory strike i want you
12:26to take a look at the special report of the hunt for terrorists and supporters of terror
12:32the carnage in pehal gum 26 innocent tourists shot dead in cold blood many at point blank range shot in
12:58the head shot by pakistani terrorists backed apparently by local terror operatives several days on a massive
13:11manhunt is on to nab the butchers of pehal gum in jungles adjoining the area the security forces are
13:23using sophisticated state-of-the-art scanning equipment it has now been revealed that the
13:32terrorists may still be filled up in the forests of south kashmir not far from pehal gum the security
13:41forces were close to the terror hideout at least twice but the terrorists seem to have escaped at the
13:48last moment
13:53local lashkar-e-tahiba terrorist adil thokar who had traveled to pakistan with valid travel documents via the
14:02atari vaga border emerging as the prime accused who pulled the trigger along with at least three other
14:10hardcore pakistani terrorists
14:17the forces have meanwhile begun identifying and neutralizing the bases of local terrorists who
14:25provided logistics and support to the pakistani terrorists
14:29their homes are being blown up using improvised explosive devices
14:36to send across a clear message that bleeding india and killing indians will come at a terrible
14:48on affordable cost for the radical terrorists
14:52operations will continue till they are not tracked down and it's not just pehal gum but if you talk of
15:06other areas forest areas of south kashmir including kokar nag right up to pehal gum the jungle track the jungle
15:15track which obviously has been used by trf and jash as a transit route is being scanned by multiple forces so that tells you that they are on their hot trail and according to sources it's only a matter of time before they are tracked down and taken care of
15:34capstone muzaffir ahmad mirfarid srinagar for india today
15:38mirfarid continues to be with us he's been consistently tracking all the updates
15:44uh from pehal gum to srinagar this is the latest video on your screens another fresh video
15:49of how tourists are hiding for cover and that's when you realize that one temporary shop possibly
15:55was the only respite that also saved at least a dozen people i want to also now bring in farid bah
16:02tell me about the strategy of blowing up the terrorist houses what is the symbolic message
16:06why are the armed forces of the government doing that how are they ensuring that whether it's a
16:10local terrorist or foreign terrorist they want to go after as much the active terrorist but also the
16:16ecosystem that possibly even though minuscule right now is still harboring and providing support
16:21well puja in the last sometime uh the number of local kada has come drastically down it used to
16:34be in hundreds right now hardly 10 to 20 are active yes there is an ogw network but more or less uh 90
16:42percent of which is smashed but then you have sleeper assets of uh the handlers of lush current jash who are
16:49there in the forest area uh because they know if they come down they will be taken care of such
16:54as the intel network of the security agencies as far as kushmir hinterland is concerned so the new
17:00strategy is to stay in the forested area so that is something that is an issue because to launch an
17:06operation in the forest it requires time it is tricky considering the uh jungle terrain and you have
17:12to be patient to ensure that you don't get casualties in the first one time so those are the challenges
17:19as far as security agencies are concerned but to your question uh the blast that have happened at least
17:24nine houses have been blown up then uh there was a hue and cry uh from people that uh the neighboring
17:31houses some of them have been damaged so now it seems that we may see uh guard actions going down because
17:38the message has already been sent as you rightly said it was symbolic but this was a message of
17:43intent from the government of india that these acts will not be tolerated while dealing pakistan is a
17:49separate subject but dealing the enemy within is something that they'll take care of immediately so
17:56those blasts have happened but then there is also a section puja where you have to understand that a lot
18:02of effort has gone into uh bringing kashmi to where it was before the palgam attack now this is an
18:08aberration this is uh one of its kind attack but previously absolutely things had stabilized peace
18:14prevailed uh stone building is gone so that aspect also government has to undertake because these blasts
18:21should not uh trigger a new narrative and that is why the message has now been sent so probably we'll see
18:26uh this action uh that's a big point now and then they're taking the the other operations that farid is
18:33making fair point farid because remember the fact is and that's there's a reason you see so many kashmiris
18:38coming out to protest as much because in the past five to six years at least they had also started to
18:44see the normalcy the change the transformation that had come and it was a collaboration from the
18:49government and from the people on the ground and eventually you will need that support of the local
18:55population farid stay on with me arvind oja also joining us he also bringing us the the video
19:00right now on your screen as the hunt is on for the terrorists presently and viewer you must understand
19:06these are forest belts it's very difficult as a terrain to operate in a lot of these jungles had been
19:11flushed out of the jihadists however as we saw in this case there are still a few active terrorists who
19:16managed to sadly successfully carry out this massacre arvind may aapko ablati ho is telecast me ki jab
19:23abh ham yie video dekh rey hain joh fresh videos ae hain or details joh arayi hain yie yie kya
19:28shata hai kis tarah se ae identify karke target karke massacre ae si jaga chuna gaya johan
19:34chupnay ki bhi jaga na mle
19:47That is to be a good video in Japan.
19:49We have a good observation.
19:51It is a good observation that we have to use.
19:56So, we have had to use the border.
19:59We have got this building and the people who haven't called it.
20:04It has a right to take the border.
20:07The terrorist's stopped and enhanced,
20:11the terrorists are not allowed to get in the border.
22:32A fresh video on your screens.
22:33We'll continue to get you updates.
22:35And a reminder, don't move on so easily.
22:38We are talking about 26 individuals.
22:4025 vials were targeted.
22:41Also remember that one local Kashmiri Muslim who reportedly tried to intervene.
22:46One of the few ones who tried to act brave took on the terrorists.
22:51He was also not spared.
22:52A reminder that Pakistan terrorists do not care for the Kashmiris either.
22:58It was an important today, an important day in the afternoon when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had a meeting.
23:20We have the inside scoop and the details that are coming in.
23:23Defence Minister briefed Prime Minister Modi on the Pehelgaam operation right now, which is ongoing in the jungles.
23:30Also, it was a 40-minute long closed-door meeting and came amid a series of intensified security operations that are presently on across the region.
23:40Remember, armed forces have been carrying out raids on the properties associated with the terrorists and their associates as well.
23:46The National Investigation Agency presently while is probing this case further, but also remember on the ground, whether it's the army, the CRP or the JK Police or the administration are ensuring that they are able to crack down on multiple layers when it comes to this incident.
24:02It's not just about the terror carnage that has happened, but also the aftermath of it and that the terrorists need to be also sent across a message.
24:11That your properties here will not be kept safe either if you intend to support the massacre of innocent people.
24:20Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed by the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, a 40-minute closed-door meeting.
24:26And remember the details, expectedly, not yet out because this is a, remember, top leadership meeting interacting on what next to be done.
24:34Shivani Sharma, closely drives the Defence Forces and more, has been reporting right outside from the PMO.
24:39So, tell me more about this, Shivani.
24:41This was one crucial meeting because the Defence Minister met the CDS, then now briefing the Prime Minister.
24:46Pooja, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the whole situation, the operations that are going on, not only at Jammu and Kashmir,
24:56but also how India is preparing to respond after the Pahalgam attack.
25:01And today's meeting was a very crucial one.
25:03It was a 40-minute long meeting where Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister, briefed Prime Minister about the ongoing operations of the Indian Army,
25:10of the services preparedness.
25:13And also, this was a meeting after the briefing of CDS was done to the Defence Minister yesterday.
25:20And even before that, the Chief of Army Staff to himself visited on ground in Jammu and Kashmir, had briefed the Defence Minister.
25:27So, all in all, every day, Pooja, Prime Minister is taking stock of the situation and the Defence Minister, briefed Prime Minister about the details of the ongoing operation
25:37and even how India is preparing to respond in a befitting manner.
25:41Yes, it is a sensitive issue and the strategic nature of the issue is such that we cannot share much details of what India is preparing for.
25:52But certainly, a very hard-hitting attack on Pakistan's terror nexus is impending.
25:58And that's why we see a lot of panic in Pakistan while India is preparing on a 360-degree domain.
26:05The victims of the families and all Indians, that justice will be served and that action will be taken.
26:12Perhaps in the next few days, we'll have more updates on that as well.
26:16Shivani, thank you very much for now. Keep tracking all these huddles and meetings that are taking place.
26:21Remember that India, while hasn't taken a military decision yet, but diplomatic strikes and how and in the latest.
26:27Remember the warfare this time in this era is not just about land, water and the air.
26:33It's also as much online. Pakistani channels have definitely tried to turn the narrative, twisted, misinformation campaigns have been on.
26:42And that's one of the reasons that Pakistan channels have now faced restrictions.
26:46They have been banned. This is by the Indian government.
26:49A decision has been taken for disseminating provocative, communally sensitive content.
26:55And not just that, false and misleading narratives too.
26:58Misinformation campaigns.
27:00Who are among some of the known channels and names?
27:02Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Akhtar's YouTube channel has been banned.
27:06Also, belonging to Arzu Kazmi, who's been a known expert, so to say, or panelist, but has been giving out content that has been questionable.
27:16Sayyad Muzammal Shah is another YouTuber, influencer, so to say.
27:22He has been restricted now.
27:24If you're an Indian citizen, you will not be able to access these YouTube users and the channels.
27:32But there are popular Pakistani channels as well.
27:34The ARY News, Dawn, Samar TV, Jio News for now stand banned in India.
27:40This comes a day after a powerful message from Prime Minister also warning that it's not just about active terrorists,
27:46but backers of terrorism will also have to face punishment.
27:50And remember, there have been huddles and meetings.
27:52This is a multi-pronged approach of the government.
27:55It's not just about the Indus Water Treaty.
27:56It's also about cancelling the visas of the Pakistan nationals.
28:00And then comes in this online warfare, a crackdown on Pakistani or pro-Pakistani channels.
28:06And a reminder to Pakistan that there will be consequences, possibly of different kinds, to pay for the massacre.
28:13Let me now tell you, what is this action on Pakistan propaganda?
28:16One by one, details coming in on your screens.
28:19Arzu Kazmi's YouTube channel has been blogged in India.
28:23Now, remember, these are channels that have had millions of following and their content at several occasions have been about misinformation,
28:32extremely provocative and inflammatory as well.
28:36We are also told Shoei Bakhtar, popular cricketer, of course,
28:38but some of the statements that he had given out, especially with regard to India, has been objectionable.
28:43Stands blocked in India now.
28:45And that is the action that has been taken with regard to the propaganda.
28:48Now, then comes in, these are popular channels, so to say, giving out news.
28:53Don and Jio News stand blocked in India.
28:56You will not be able to access it anymore.
28:58Again, this is another form of action that has been taken.
29:01Also, we are told, for example, Samar TV on your screen, ARY News.
29:05These are some of the channels also that have faced a crackdown.
29:09The government immediately going ahead to decide and ban it.
29:12Now, you would expect from the Pakistan channels or Pakistan influencers to be putting out misinformation.
29:19Why the international media is so soft and cryptic at a time when there is a clear, blatant terror attack?
29:28The Indian government has also pulled up the BBC, saying that there has been misleading reportage in how.
29:34The government has raised strong categorical objections to the BBC coverage of the Pehlgaam terror attack.
29:40For example, in one of the reports titled, Pakistan suspends visa for Indians after deadly Kashmir attack.
29:47It was a retaliatory measure after India decided to take action.
29:53And Kashmir attack was sponsored by Pakistan viewer, in which 26 Indians, in fact, 25 Indians and one Nepalese citizen were butchered in how.
30:02BBC went on to add that it was a militant attack.
30:06A militant attack.
30:07If this is not a terror attack, what else is?
30:09Consistently using words like gunmen, for example.
30:12Now, there are many international media that have done the same.
30:15But BBC clearly, it appears, has repeatedly made these mentions and that has caught the government's eye.
30:22It's a stern message that has been sent out.
30:24And the government says a letter expressing strong sentiments have been sent to the BBC over the use of words.
30:33So, remember, amid all of this, I then decided to explore further.
30:37At a time like this, when there is absolute outrage, a condemnation that has come from world leaders on this.
30:46Why is the international media so soft, so cryptic, unable to call a terror attack a terror attack?
30:55Here's more.
30:57Shock and anger after 20 tourists killed by gunmen.
31:01Who is shocked?
31:03Who is in anger?
31:04What kind of tourists?
31:06And gunmen asked what?
31:07They asked for Islamic verses to be recited.
31:11And when the victims could not, obviously, then they were shot on the head.
31:16That is the fact.
31:17Even if you ignore the headline, because there could be a style sheet norm or a space crunch and blah blah.
31:23Come to the details.
31:25Two dozen people.
31:27Why could even an elaborate caption with enough space to write not mention that these two dozen people were 23 Hindus, two Christians, killed at ease, identified and hit at point blank rage in a jihadist attack?
31:41NYT adds that it is a terror attack, but only in quotes.
31:45Because, well, the Indian Prime Minister said so.
31:48Otherwise, not so much.
31:49We are not very sure.
31:50At least 24 tourists gunned down by militants in Kashmir.
31:55Every word here is so problematic.
31:57Not simply 24 tourists randomly shot 24 Indians in their own country, checked and confirmed as non-Muslims, targeted on religion basis by radical jihadists, massacred, sent from Pakistan to identify and target them.
32:15Were lined up, sideline, asked to kneel, trousers pulled down for some of them, targeted on identity basis, leaving their women, mocking the families.
32:25Does any of this sense come from the headline that you just read here?
32:30The world is taking note.
32:31The world's leaders are speaking and acknowledging.
32:34Why are then some in international media either soft peddling and honestly not even reporting at a mass level as this should have been?
32:43The Associated Press and other foreign agencies are more interested to use safe words.
32:49But their focus still is to ensure writing rather India administered, India controlled, rather than detail what unfolded in Perga.
32:59First of all, let me break some misconception for you once and hopefully for all.
33:04There is no Indian occupied Kashmir.
33:06That's ignorance.
33:08Kashmir is the land of Shaivism.
33:10Lord Shiva and Mahaparvati even before Islam was born.
33:15Maybe the international media does not care about Indians or Hindus, the brown people, you know.
33:20But I'm sure they care about the Israel-Palestine conflict.
33:24They've reported on it extensively.
33:27Did you not see similarities in the 7-11 massacre and 22-04 for India?
33:32Not a coincidence.
33:33Hamas extremists were seen in Pakistan-occupied Jambu Kashmir in February.
33:38Look at these images.
33:40Similar strategy then was used on how Hamas had carried out the massacre on 7-11, was carried out in Perga.
33:46The same high-tech equipment, body cam footage, helmets, targeted identified attacks.
33:51International media cannot see what the world observers clearly can.
33:57The international media reported extensively on ISI-style executions.
34:02And today, you intend to soft-pedal because Indians and Hindus are the victims.
34:06However, there's been a turning point as well.
34:12World leaders have united in this fight against terrorists, expressing support and solidarity.
34:17Some of these leaders from the USA, UK, France, Italy have spoken personally to Prime Minister Modi, expressing solidarity and support.
34:26Here's a special report on at least how the world leaders have taken a side and is to stand with India.
34:31The world is stunning with India in this fight against terrorism.
35:01In response to the terror carnage in Kashmir rallies, Pahelgaam, global communities led by the Indian diaspora are hosting candlelight vigils and protests to pay tribute to the victims.
35:24The Indian diaspora gathered outside the Indian High Commission in London, holding a vigil to remember the Pahelgaam attack victims.
35:31Pakistanis also turned up outside the Indian High Commission in a counter-protest, claiming that Pakistan had no role in Pahelgaam attack, despite glaring evidence.
35:44That is the support from the vehicles that are passing by, and these are on the other side, and it seems that the distance is quite a bit, so there won't be, hopefully, any confrontation or escalation, and they would be kept separate from each other.
36:04The Pakistani origin people who have turned up outside the Indian High Commission is saying that they can be blamed for the Pahelgaam attack.
36:11I do want to send a message that we are here for peace.
36:15We are against terrorism.
36:17Thank you, Oja.
36:17And we are against the continuous terrorist attacks on innocent people.
36:24Paharat Pataki, Jai!
36:27Paharat Pataki, Jai!
36:30Meanwhile, in Toronto, Canada, a protest was held by the Indo-Canadian community and joined by multi-ethnicities and nationalities against Pakistan-sponsored terror cart.
36:40Paharat Pataki, Jai!
36:42Paharat Pataki, Jai!
36:44People from the Baloch community, all different communities coming together to say, you know, we stand with the victims of the terrorist attack, not the perpetrator, because Kashmiri Hindus have faced, you know, seven genocides in their history, going as most recently as 1990, and if we don't stand up and if the world doesn't take a strong position, they could face an eighth.
37:04Also, India's Dawadi Buhura community in New York's Queens came together to offer a heartfelt tribute to the victims of the terror attack.
37:16Global leaders are pledging their support to India in this fight against terrorism, proving to be a turning point.
37:22In the latest, FBI Director, Kash Patel has condemned the terror attack and assured India of continued USA support.
37:30This comes after Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence in America, said that USA stands in solidarity with India.
37:38US President Donald Trump had called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has already condemned the attack, calling it a bad one.
37:44Although he also expressed confidence that both countries will eventually iron out their differences.
37:52I'm very close to India and I'm very close to Pakistan, as you know, and they've had that fight for a thousand years in Kashmir.
38:00Kashmir's been going on for a thousand years, probably longer than that, and it was a bad one yesterday, though.
38:08That was a bad one.
38:09Iranian President Masood Pezishkin expressed deep sorrow over the attack and emphasised Iran's solidarity with India.
38:18With Lavina Tandon from London, Bureau Report India Today.
38:25Cities across the world and importantly every major city here in the country.
38:30I can tell you that Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Mumbai, Bengaluru.
38:36Almost every neighbourhood we are receiving reports from where the citizens of the country, irrespective of their political, ideological, religious differences, have come together.
38:47And that either for a candlelight vigil, a protest march, but to stand united as Indians,
38:54condemning the senseless violence sponsored by Pakistan and to pay the tribute to the lives lost
38:59and tell those families, 26 families, that the whole of India stands with them.
39:04It's a message of hope, unity and a collective stand against Pakistan-sponsored jihadist terror.
39:15And these Indians have come together, four Indians, 26 individuals in total.
39:21Not a number, not a number, not a statistics, not a data.
39:24Human beings, men.
39:2625 of them targeted simply for their faith and identity and names.
39:31One, a local Kashmiri Muslim who tried to intervene and face the terrorists was also not spared.
39:37This was once a meadow of peace, tranquility, beauty, where these Indians with their families had decided to go.
39:44But today, the families are cremating the mortal remains of these men.
39:50The world will move on, I hope.
39:52However, India and Indians will remember.
39:55Forever stand with the families.
39:5726 families lost to now.
39:59India and France have signed a game-changer Rafale deal.
40:21This is a major boost to the naval power.
40:23India has signed an intergovernmental agreement with France
40:26to procure 26 Rafale marine fighter jets, and that will be for the Indian Navy.
40:31At an estimated cost of about 64,000 crore rupees,
40:35this deal finalized during a virtual event, though on 20th April, marks a significant step.
40:40It will strengthen India's maritime capabilities.
40:44Defence Minister Rajnath Singh witnessed the signing,
40:46paving the way for the deployment of the advanced jets aboard the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.
40:51So what are part of the agreement?
40:53The delivery of the jets, though slated to begin around five years after the contract signing,
40:58but eventually will add to the military arsenal of India.
41:02So here are some of the details that you need to know.
41:04What are these Rafale marine jets that are going to be added to the Indian Navy?
41:08Advanced four-and-a-half generation fighter jet,
41:12multi-role jet that is capable of long-range precision strikes.
41:16This is where it gets important, especially when you're talking about border safety,
41:21another juncture where India stands presently.
41:23Which means that these jets can neutralize ships, air targets, land-based threats as well.
41:30So a multi-pronged approach that will be of use.
41:33These jets are equipped with scout cruise missile and meteor missiles as well.
41:38They are equipped with the AESA radar and anti-submarine weapons too.
41:42Again, whether it's land, air or sea, they will be of benefit to the Indian Navy specifically.
41:48It boasts of Spectra electronic warfare suite.
41:52So these are cutting-edge high-tech technology that has been added.
41:55Remember, of course, it will be added to the fleet in the next few years.
41:58However, it is also a reminder of how India and France have been collaborating consistently
42:04when it comes to the defence sector.
42:05It is also in addition to how France, even in the backdrop, in the aftermath of the Pehelgaam terror carnage,
42:12was one of the first countries to not just put out a statement of condemnation,
42:16but their leader personally called up Prime Minister Modi to express solidarity and support.
42:20They've had Rafal jets, remember?
42:22Then come in the Rafal marine jets.
42:25They will be added to the Indian Navy.
42:26And that addition is definitely going to ensure that India, Indian Armed Forces,
42:32will be prepared just in case needed for self-defence.
42:36Remember, India believes in restraint, in ensuring peace with its neighbours.
42:42But sadly, we increasingly every day realise the kind of rogue nations as neighbours that we have.
42:47Shivani Sharma joining me, closely tracks the defence forces.
42:50Tell me more about this.
42:52Rafal marine jets, Shivani, what does it mean?
42:55It was, though, a virtual event, but how will it add to our arsenal?
43:00Pooja, this has been the biggest deal when India will now be getting 26 Rafal marines for the Indian Navy.
43:07And these Rafal marines will be deployed on the aircraft carriers of the Indian Navy,
43:11the INS with Grand and INS with Ramah Bhutia.
43:14And it means that this would be a game changer for Indian Navy,
43:18especially in the time when we see a lot of muscle flexing happening in the Indian Ocean region by China.
43:23And India, and especially Indian Navy, has been involved in complex operations across these blue waters,
43:31and also strengthening ties with its strengths, the friendly foreign navies.
43:36So this is defence diplomacy to navies.
43:39And these Rafal jets will be inducted into the Indian Navy.
43:43The first batch will start coming into India by 2029, and the complete order will be done by 2031.
43:5022 of these will be single-seater Rafal marine jets, while four will be the trainers.
43:55There will be RMO that would be the facility for the repair and maintenance that will also be included in this deal.
44:03And also, these simulators for training purposes will include in this particular deal.
44:09So this is actually a big deal, Pooja, that will give the Indian Navy more teeth in the blue waters.
44:16Shwani, thank you for the updates, and we'll be tracking more of this deal,
44:19and as in when it starts getting added to the fleet.
44:22Thank you very much for now.
44:24Remember why this is important.
44:25The Indian Navy is set to bolster the aerial defence capabilities with the induction of the Rafal marine fighter jets.
44:31It will be a game-changer in modern warfare, but how?
44:34India Today's Managing Editor Gaurav Sawan explains and helps you understand
44:38why this India-France deal is so significant.
44:48Hello and a very warm welcome to a special edition of Battle Cry.
44:51I'm Gaurav Sawan.
44:52On this special broadcast, we focus on a big jump in Indian Navy's firepower.
44:59We talk about the Rafal Marines.
45:02The Narendra Modi government-led Cabinet Committee on Security
45:05has just cleared a 63,887 crore rupee deal with France
45:12for the direct acquisition of 26 Rafal Marine fighter jets for the Indian Navy.
45:17The Rafal Marines will fly from the decks of India's first indigenous aircraft carrier,
45:23that's INS Vikrant, and of course also from INS Vikramaditya.
45:27This is a government-to-government deal.
45:30It includes 22 single-seater fighter jets,
45:33four twin-engine trainers,
45:36then it includes the weapons, the simulators, crew training,
45:39and five years of performance-based logistics support.
45:44The Defence Minister of France is expected to come to India
45:48and then there will be the signing of the intergovernmental agreement
45:52with deliveries slated between the 37th and the 65th month
45:56once the contract is inked.
45:58So, all these 26 Rafal Marines are expected to be in India by 2031.
46:05There are several advantages, experts say, of the Rafal Marines.
46:09Both the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force will be flying the Rafals.
46:14The Rafal Marine shares between 80%, as some argue,
46:18or 90%, as some analysts say,
46:21commonality when it comes to components with the Indian Air Force
46:24that flies 36 Rafal fighter jets.
46:27And this would help streamline logistics, maintenance, and training.
46:31It would reduce long-term costs.
46:34For example, spares, infrastructure, training, expertise
46:37that are already in place with the Indian Air Force.
46:41IAF Rafal maintenance facilities will be able to support
46:44the Indian Navy fleet enhancing op efficiency and interoperability.
46:49So, you have 36 plus 22 of these Rafals,
46:53or 26 of these Rafals in all,
46:55that can operate together if there is a requirement.
46:58Then, Navy says that there is a proven carrier capability
47:02of the Rafal Marines,
47:04because it's been designed for a short take-off,
47:07but arrested recovery, stovar operations.
47:10The Rafal M analysts argue is optimized
47:12for Indian Navy carrier-based operations.
47:15It has reinforced landing gear, a tail hook,
47:18and that jump-strut nose wheel for ski jump take-offs.
47:22It's undergone successful trials at INS Hansa.
47:25That's the Indian Navy's show-based test facility in Goa.
47:29Now, there are reports that whether it's compatibility
47:32with Indian carrier decks, it's completely compatible.
47:36Let's now take a look at the evolution
47:39of Indian Navy's fighter jets,
47:42because Indian Navy has tremendous experience
47:45in flying of aircraft carriers,
47:49a journey that started with British-built warbirds
47:52to cutting-edge Omni-Roll fighters today.
47:56So, first up, what did the Indian Navy fly first?
47:59I want to take you through history.
48:01The Hawker Seahawk, India's first jet fighter
48:05for the Indian Navy, operated from INS Vikrant,
48:08the original INS Vikrant, in the 1960s.
48:11It retired in 1983.
48:14Next came the Elise aircraft,
48:17an anti-submarine warfare aircraft
48:19also operated from onboard INS Vikrant.
48:22It served the Indian Navy for close to four decades,
48:251960s to 2000.
48:28Then came the iconic Sea Harrier.
48:30These British-made aircraft, again,
48:33were V-Stall, a virtual take-off and landing,
48:37capable of that,
48:37and they operated from onboard INS Virat.
48:41It was the Navy's frontline fighter from 1983
48:44till it was phased out in 2016.
48:48Currently, the Indian Navy flies
48:49the Russian-origin MiG-29K.
48:53Now, it's a very powerful multi-role fighter jet
48:55that's operating both onboard INS Vikramaditya
48:58and INS Vikrant has been in service since 2010.
49:03But the future,
49:04or at least what's coming in the next couple of years,
49:08once the deal is inked,
49:09are the Rafal Marines set to join the fleet,
49:13marking a new era in Indian Navy's aviation
49:16with unmatched carrier-borne capabilities
49:19and modern technology.
49:21So, from the Seahawk to the Rafal M,
49:24Indian naval aviation has transformed,
49:27as the Navy says,
49:28into a force that's completely capable
49:31of projecting India's power across oceans.
49:35And with the Rafal Marines on the horizon,
49:38the Indian Navy is ready to make its presence felt
49:41in a much stronger way in the years to come
49:44from the North Arabian Sea
49:45to the South China Sea and beyond.
49:47All right, big news coming in.
49:56This is with regard to the Russia-Ukraine war.
49:58Russia has declared a ceasefire
50:00with regard to the war with Ukraine
50:02from 8th of May to the 10th of May.
50:06Now, there's a reason for it.
50:07The reason is that Kremlin has said
50:09that Russian President Vladimir Putin
50:10ordered this full session of hostilities
50:12on humanitarian ground.
50:14Why?
50:15The May 9th is a date
50:18that stands for the Victory Day.
50:20It's across Europe,
50:21but specifically with regard to World War II.
50:24And that is one of the reasons
50:25that because of the World War II Victory Day,
50:28May 8th to May 10th has been decided
50:30as ceasefire,
50:32that possibly on these two to three days,
50:35there will be complete peace at the border
50:37with regard to Russia-Ukraine
50:38and the war that has gone beyond three years now.
50:41So, that's one decision.
50:42Remember, however, there have been consistent talks,
50:45whether it's United States of America,
50:46whether it's European nations,
50:48they have consistently been
50:50trying to initiate conversations, discussions,
50:53so that this war can end.
50:55The war hasn't come to an end.
50:56However, at least there have been moments of ceasefire.
51:008th to the 10th of May,
51:02the victory in Europe day
51:04is the day basically
51:05as a formal acceptance by the Allies.
51:07Remember, of the World War II,
51:09there was an unconditional surrender
51:10that had happened in 1945
51:12and that in many ways
51:13is going to be marked here as well.
51:20India Today's Foreign Affairs editor,
51:22Geeta Mohan, joins me
51:23for the latest on that.
51:25And these are, remember,
51:26observed by Russia,
51:27former states of the Soviet Union as well.
51:30Tell me more about this, Geeta.
51:31Why this date for ceasefire?
51:33And do you think there will be
51:34at least three days of peace in the region?
51:36Well, three days of peace is what Russia wants.
51:40This is May 9th, Victory Day celebrations,
51:42where Russia, as part of the Allied forces,
51:46had won the World War II
51:49against the Nazi Germany.
51:51And it's a very important day for Russia.
51:54Russia emphasizes the importance
51:56and how Russia stood
51:58in the right side of history.
52:01On the 9th of May, Puja,
52:03there are going to be
52:04very important dignitaries,
52:07which, according to some reports,
52:08include Chinese President Xi Jinping
52:11in Russia celebrating Victory Day.
52:16In such a scenario,
52:17they would not want a situation
52:19where there is a security threat
52:21of any kind,
52:22given the fact that there have been drone strikes
52:25that have reached Moscow too.
52:27So they do not want a situation
52:29where there is a security situation
52:32or security-like situation
52:33or a threat of any kind.
52:35And therefore,
52:36from the 8th to the 10th,
52:37from the time when leaders start arriving
52:40to the time when leaders start leaving,
52:42is the window that they want
52:44to ensure that there is absolute ceasefire.
52:46And can that window be extended, Geeta?
52:48Of course, we'll be tracking
52:49all the latest on that.
52:50At least three days of peace in the region.
52:52Can the world leaders come together
52:53to ensure it can be extended too?
52:55Geeta Mohan with this big breaking
52:57coming in on International News.
52:58Thank you very much for now.
52:59I'm wrapping up the 5 Live.
53:01Thank you so much for watching.
