00:00Our Master, Our Lord,

00:16Gift us, grant us.

00:19You know in Quran we find aatina, give us, aatina, to give a grand gift.

00:24Gift us, an unexpected gift, a beautiful gift, hablana.

00:28This is the gift you're asking Allah to give you.

00:31And lana is muqaddam, this prepositional phrase is brought earlier, especially for us.

00:37We're asking for a special favor to Allah.

00:40And what is this favor that we're asking of?

00:42Allah Azza wa Jal.

00:43Grant us from our spouses, and not just our children, which is awlaad, dhurriyatina.

00:50You know, wadhurriyatina.

00:51Future generations of us.

00:54In other words, you're not even asking for your immediate children,

00:56but your lineage for generations to come.

01:00Grant us from all of them, coolness of eyes.

01:05Make our eyes cool by means of our spouses, and by means of our children.

01:10All of us, all of us,

01:13have to appreciate the power of this du'a because of the crisis of the world today.

01:18The world's fundamental institution of family is under attack.

01:25Most of the people here, even Muslims, are not immune from this problem.

01:29In many of our homes,

01:31the storm that I said, when you find coolness of the eyes,

01:34you find refuge from the storm.

01:36The storm is not outside the house.

01:38The storm is inside the house.

01:41And you have to get away from home to get away from the yelling,

01:45and the screaming, and the name calling,

01:47and the insults, and the depression,

01:50and the sadness,

01:51and the friction between husband and wife, and parent and children.

01:54Our homes are broken.

01:57Brother is not talking to brother.

01:58Parents are not talking to children.

02:01This is a crisis inside the home.

02:02And what better du'a to ask?

02:05The exact opposite.

02:06You know, the family has become a place of sorrow,

02:09of depression, of sadness, of anger, of rage.

02:12People feel like they want to escape it.

02:14And here Allah tells us to ask so perfectly,

02:17so eloquently,

02:18that the home should become the place of refuge.

02:21It's like the outside world is a storm.

02:23And you suffer on the outside in your refuge.

02:26Your safe haven is those doors in your home,

02:29is your spouse, is your children.

02:31When you see them, your worries disappear.

02:33But for most of us,

02:34when you see them, your worries begin.

02:37And so we ask Allah,

02:39give us from our spouses and our children,

02:42coolness of eyes.

02:43That's what we ask Allah.

02:44When somebody said,

02:45I want to get married, go further.

02:47Not just get married,

02:48I want to get married to a spouse that will cool my eyes.

02:50That I'll be the coolness of their eyes,

02:52and they'll be the coolness of mine.

02:53And Allah عز و جل took the du'a further.

02:56And then we understand,

02:57why talk about future generations?

02:58وَجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا

03:00and make us leaders

03:02over those who are cautious,

03:06conscious, fearful,

03:07pious, righteous.

03:09Those who are fearful before Allah.

03:11And you know what that makes you realize?

03:12It makes you realize,

03:13your relationships right now,

03:14aren't just about you.

03:16You're setting a precedent in your family,

03:19for generations to come.

03:20So when you are not acting as good husbands,

03:23and good wives,

03:23and good parents,

03:24and good children,

03:25what are your future generations gonna be doing?

03:27And who's gonna be answerable

03:29for that negative trend

03:30that was started by you?

03:32Who's gonna be answerable for that?

03:34So it's an intelligent du'a

03:36that we should find coolness of the eyes,

03:38not only in our immediate family,

03:39but the future generations

03:41should be people that are righteous too.

03:43Because when we're raised on judgment day,

03:45we are imam over the entire family.

03:47Whether they were messed up or not.

03:50We better ask for the kinds of people

03:51if they're underneath us,

03:53not those who are dragging us down on judgment day,

03:55but those who are elevating us.

03:56And we beg Allah

03:57that He give all of us

03:58those kinds of families.

04:00So I beg all of you sincerely,

04:02that we all make this sincere du'a to Allah.

04:05رَبَّنَا أَحَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ

04:08وَجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا

04:10I sincerely pray

04:11that Allah Azza wa Jal

04:12gives all of us

04:13and makes from our spouses

04:15and our children

04:15those that are the coolness of our eyes,

04:18and that He makes us

04:18a leader over those that are pious and righteous.

04:21May Allah forgive all of our shortcomings,

04:23accept all of our du'a,

04:24and make the means of our forgiveness

04:26easy upon us.
