00:00Hi Dana. Franny. You're looking a little swollen. This is not drunk swollen. This is
00:05allergy swollen. Do you get bad allergies? Horrible. Well that's very appropriate
00:09because today's lesson is allergies. Are you serious? Yeah. Oh! We've never had such a
00:14good segue. No, this is like the most important thing I need right now. My
00:18number one symptom is itchy eyes. Yup. Why do you think I'm so swollen? I've been
00:23doing this all fucking day. Doing that actually is only going to make things
00:27worse. Really? Yeah. The body's immune system creates things called antibodies.
00:32Yup. Which it uses to attack harmful or foreign substances. Things like germs.
00:38Yeah. I know that. Good. I did. But sometimes the body can wrongfully identify
00:44things that it thinks are harmful and attack those things. That is where
00:49allergies come from. I don't know why the fuck it would think pollen's good for you.
00:52It's just green stuff. It's our body saying oh crap we don't know what that is. We
00:56gotta fight it. That causes the allergic reaction. I'm all fucking set with pollen.
01:00Atopic dermatitis that's when you have an allergy to something on the skin and
01:04you get like a rash. I'm not a rash guy. Oh that's eczema. Eczema is a... Oh! I'm
01:09a rash guy then. You've had eczema? Yeah. Oh here we go. Eczema. Have you ever seen
01:14that video? What? Eczema. No. Alright. You're missing out. You got eczema? I got what? You got eczema?
01:22You got eczema? Alright. You got eczema? Stay with me here. We're almost done. For God's sake.
01:26Say it. Eczema? You got eczema? Oh you're doing it as eczema. Try it. Eczema. You got eczema?
01:38You got eczema? You got eczema? There you go. Yeah. What's the point of that? I don't know. It's a video I like. Okay. So when the body comes into this thing that it thinks it's harmful, the allergen, right? It causes an immune system response that can be...
01:50inflamed airways, itchy skin, redness, swelling, all these types of things. Yeah. And in a very severe case, something called anaphylaxis.
02:00That's when your throat gets all fucked. Yes. Among other things. And that is where things can be life-threatening.
02:05I'm lucky enough I don't live with that, but I deal with some pretty bad symptoms. Yeah. You walked in, you called me swollen.
02:12I don't want to live that life. No. I don't want to live a swollen life. You kind of look a little water long. Yeah.
02:19I don't want to do this. You look like you've been held in a jar. I've...
02:23These allergy medicines usually take a little bit of time to work. Yup.
02:27And you shouldn't just jump from one to the next. I would tell you to try one and stick with it.
02:32I think my allergies are just too strong. Oh, you're gonna do that. I think my body's just too strong.
02:36You just constantly say that your body is defeating medication.
02:40Ozempic, I'm stronger than. So let's talk about the different types of allergies.
02:43There's hay fever. That's probably what you and I are suffering from right now.
02:46Yeah. Food allergies can be a little more severe.
02:49I might be allergic to beers. Like, what a twist that would be.
02:53Well, that would... Why do you think I'm always swollen and fat and gross?
02:56Well, I think it's because you have 14. I don't drink beers daily.
02:59But when I drink beers, I drink beers.
03:01Next time you want to drink beers, have two. Ah.
03:05Yep. Okay. Well, I knew that wasn't gonna happen.
03:08So anaphylaxis can come on as a result of food allergies, medications, bee stings.
03:15I was gonna guess bees. Those are the big ones.
03:17That's the pen. This is a potentially life-threatening reaction.
03:21It can cause a person to go into shock. I might be a bee sting EpiPen guy.
03:26I don't know. I've never been stung by a bee. You've never been stung by a bee?
03:29Not to my knowledge. Not one time in your life?
03:31Maybe. When I was a kid. But not to my knowledge.
03:34Well, wouldn't you remember that? I don't know.
03:36I don't remember a lot after like 8th grade.
03:38After 8th grade? Yeah. It kind of like stops.
03:42What do you mean? You mean before 8th grade?
03:46Before 8th grade, I don't remember much. Okay.
03:48Yeah. Which is still concerning.
03:50Anaphylaxis can cause dizziness, a rapid or a weak pulse.
03:55Mm-hmm. And get this. A sense of doom.
03:58Oh. I don't like that. No.
04:00Well, yeah. If I thought I'd be dying, I'd be like, doom too.
04:03Doom? Doom.
04:05Doom?
04:06Well, if my fucking throat started closing up, I'd be like, doom.
04:09Yeah, but that's different, I think. A sense of doom is slightly different from I'm in trouble.
04:13No. Maybe you're right.
04:15No, it depends who you are. If that was me, I would be full of doom.
04:19Doom is darker than...
04:21No, it's like I'm gonna fucking die right now.
04:23The world's coming to an end. My loved ones are all gonna get hit by a rolling boulder.
04:29Everything I love in life will soon perish. Something's coming for me.
04:33No.
04:34No.
04:35Not my throat's closing up and I'm about to die. That's immediate doom.
04:40Doom is doom.
04:41Doom's a good word.
04:42It is.
04:43Don't you like saying it?
04:44I keep saying it. I wanna say boom next.
04:46No, no. Stick with doom.
04:47Doom. Yeah.
04:48That's what those guys say. You know them.
04:50Who?
04:51Big AJ and Justice.
04:52They say, that's five dooms.
04:54Oh, they say doom?
04:55Yeah, when it's bad, they say doom.
04:56Oh, that's too bad. I don't like that they say that. I don't like those guys.
05:00When someone you know starts going into anaphylactic shock.
05:04Yup.
05:05And what does the EpiPen do?
05:06Oh, it sends you into, not paranoia, into euphoria.
05:10No.
05:11Doesn't it get your fucking blood rushing?
05:13Well, it's adrenaline, right?
05:14Well, that's the word I was thinking of.
05:16Yeah, euphoria, it's not molly.
05:19Well, euphoria, you have adrenaline when you're feeling euphoric.
05:22You can feel euphoria without feeling adrenaline.
05:25Well, that's debatable, but...
05:27No, it's not.
05:28I just won the Super Bowl and I'm feeling euphoric.
05:30My adrenaline's going up.
05:32I think I just fucking beat him.
05:34Wait a second.
05:35I think I just beat you.
05:36You didn't.
05:37Yes, I did.
05:38And you can't just say...
05:39And by the way, that's called a straw man argument, what you're doing there.
05:41I beat you.
05:42You said that euphoria and adrenaline go hand in hand.
05:45Categorically.
05:46But they are always...
05:47I didn't say the word categorically.
05:49I don't even know that word.
05:51You feel euphoria and adrenaline one in the same.
05:56Whenever you feel euphoria, it always accompanies adrenaline.
05:59Typically.
06:00Well, now you're walking it back.
06:02If you're walking it back, there goes the win that you thought you had.
06:04Fine, I fucking lost.
06:06No, you didn't lose.
06:08You made a good point.
06:10I know I did.
06:11But I countered with another point and we just both learned from each other.
06:15Alright, we both won.
06:16It doesn't have to be a zero-sum game.
06:19We both won and we both lost.
06:21You know what a zero-sum game is?
06:22When nothing is fulfilled from a conversation.
06:25No.
06:26That was an educational conversation.
06:28I think we both made great points.
06:30Let's get back to allergies.
06:31Alright, so you get your adrenaline in your blood.
06:33It starts racing like crazy.
06:34It's coursing through your veins.
06:35And what that does is it opens up your throat, your airways.
06:40Because what's happening is your airways are constricted.
06:42And so the adrenaline opens up your airways to get you to the hospital so that they can
06:47probably, if it's a food thing, pump your stomach.
06:50Do you ever think about just having a tongue in your mouth?
06:54You know, I can tell in the minute of conversation the exact moment where something I've said has
07:01caused you to stop listening and start thinking about something completely unrelated.
07:06I can see it happen in real time.
07:08This, you go like this, and then you went, you went like that.
07:12And so the entire world opens up your airways to get you.
07:18Tongue.
07:19Tongue.
07:20Tongue.
07:21Tongue.
07:22Well, do you ever think about that?
07:23No.
07:24It's fucking crazy.
07:25It's just, it's huge.
07:26You go to an allergist.
07:28I did!
07:29The doctor.
07:30And they put me on steroids and it made it worse.
07:32They can give you a shot.
07:33I was allergic to the steroids.
07:35Oh, wow.
07:36Yeah, I know.
07:37That's how fucked I am.
07:38They're supposed to be able to give you a shot, and if you administer it a couple times,
07:42I think, then they can actually legitimately cure you of your allergies.
07:46Because they're attuning your body, I guess, to make it understand that pollen is not going
07:51to hurt you.
07:52Like, let's forget about pollen or whatever.
07:53Yeah.
07:54Let's not create those antibodies to attack it.
07:55I took my first shot and I had a reaction to the shot.
07:58Okay, but if you don't want to go that route, then you can do eye drops.
08:03Mm-hmm.
08:04You can do Flonase.
08:05I like the nasal sprays.
08:06Oh, yeah.
08:07You can do sort of a warm compress on the eyes.
08:09Oh, yes.
08:10Local honey is a big one people talk about.
08:12All right.
08:13I'll do local honey.
08:14I think that's a good one for you.
08:15You should get some local honey.
08:16Honey, not Cheerios.
08:17Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
08:19Actual honey from hives sourced locally.
08:22It has to be local.
08:23Where the fuck am I going to find a hive?
08:26Go to a farmer's market.
08:28Okay.
08:29Don't go to the hive.
08:30Those are allergies, brother.
08:31Good luck with them.
08:32Good luck!
08:33We heard it.
08:34Malaysia!
08:35Never heard it!
08:36We heard it.
08:38We heard it.
