00:00Ride and shine everybody and welcome to episode 3 of the Call Sam Chopper Shop.
00:09Today we're diving into the next chapter of our Detroit Lions build.
00:13There's no doubt this bike is going to turn heads with its stunning new paint job, but we're not done yet.
00:18Every detail matters when you're building a custom chopper and we won't rest until this plain old bike achieves gridiron glory.
00:26Today a few more of our talented friends bring their skills to this project.
00:31Watching these masters of their craft in action never gets old.
00:35Dave's design for the Lions bike included a seat covered in football material.
00:40Since Jerry Alexander did such a bang up job in season 2, we're back at his shop at St. Clair Shores.
00:46Jerry's old world skills are matched only by his generosity.
00:51When he found out that the seat he made last time was for a motorcycle being raffled to benefit veterans, he donated it.
00:57He's doing the same this year. Thanks Jerry.
01:00Jerry's assistant John starts by tracing templates made from pieces of the deconstructed original seat.
01:06Now I'm just notching it, putting all these notches in, and then I'll do the same on this one.
01:12When we go to sew them together, these will all line up.
01:17With sheer focus he cuts them out one by one, then gives them the Jerry at the machine.
01:22Jerry has been in the biz his entire life and it shows.
01:26He chooses to use a top stitch for sewing together the panels because it will hold up better against wear and tear on the road.
01:33It's back to John for the rest of the process.
01:40He stretches the material over the structure and staples it in place.
01:44Then he steams it to remove any remaining wrinkles.
01:51Check it out.
01:52Now that's what I call a custom throne for your end zone.
01:56Meanwhile, over at BossFab, also in St. Clair Shores, another familiar face is hard at work crafting custom components for the chopper.
02:04Once again, David's turned to Mike Prezondik, the maestro of metalwork, the alchemist of aluminum, to create a shift linkage, timing cover, and derby cover.
02:14Mike's also experimenting with custom fender emblems to add a little more grit to the build.
02:20All right, so all of my parts start as a solid chunk of 6061 aluminum, and this would be a blank for shift linkage.
02:27I brand the backside with my logo.
02:29I drill and tap the ends, and then I attach them to a fixture.
02:33And then when I machine them, I machine all the material away, leaving the raised engraving that you see here.
02:43Oh say can you see and see.
02:45Each piece is meticulously designed and crafted to add a touch of high octane attitude to every motorcycle it graces.
02:58He starts by loading a 3D design into the computer.
03:01The design is interpreted as code, which the computer uses to drill, mill, contour, and cut.
03:07The ballet begins, and the machine gracefully dances across the blank, carving away at a speed of 4,500 RPMs.
03:14Mike inspects each piece for accuracy.
03:17The finish is only as good as the fit.
03:20Jerry's seat and Mike's parts are finally ready to join forces with Rob's tank and saddlebags.
03:26Without Alexander's Boss Fab and Paddock's paint works, the bike could never come to life.
03:32It shows that our Detroit Lions motorcycle is more than a symbol of team spirit.
03:37It's a beacon of support for veterans.
03:39The craftspeople who work on it are more than collaborators.
03:42They are amongst the biggest supporters of those who served.
03:47Paint? Check.
03:48New seat? Check.
03:50Custom engraving? Check.
03:52Mark, we're definitely heading into the end zone.
03:54We sure are, but we need help scoring a touchdown.
03:57Remember, we're raising money to help vets in Metro Detroit.
04:00And every raffle ticket you buy gets us a little closer.
04:04So grab your tickets at CallSam.com.
04:07Tune in next time to see Dave and John complete the transition from Rogue King to King of the Road.
04:14Thanks for watching.
