00:09So this edition of At The Table with Tune Up, man, takes me to Troy, Michigan,
00:13a place that's called Houston Hot Chicken.
00:16They're based out of Las Vegas.
00:17They're on Big Beaver right now, plus several different locations.
00:20Look at this, man, chicken and waffles.
00:21You can't go wrong, right?
00:23Ooh, look at that, man.
00:23And the fries come with it.
00:24Quick old cut fries come with it.
00:26Look at this salad right here.
00:27What you do, you pick your style of chicken, how hot you want.
00:31Go on top of this, man, on top of the salad.
00:33Excellent.
00:34Oh, my God.
00:35This here, one of the hottest desserts they have in Houston Hot Chicken.
00:38And gotta have something to wash it down.
00:40Three different flavors.
00:41These nuggets here, man, they won't be dry at all, that's for sure.

00:46Super, super juicy.
00:49When you eat nuggets, you don't want no dryness, man.

01:02So, what is Houston Hot Chicken?
01:03What does that actually mean?
01:04So, our founder is named Houston.
01:07But we are a Las Vegas brand.
01:10I know that can get a little confusing at times, but we are out of Las Vegas.
01:14That's where it originated.
01:15They are in eight states out west.
01:17We were the first ones now to bring them here east of the Mississippi.
01:19And we have the three locations now.
01:22Okay.
01:22So, what does Houston's mean?
01:24Quality.
01:25That's what Houston means.
01:26And that's what brought me back.
01:27That's what brought me back when I had it one time.
01:29Unbelievable.
01:30So, what made these nuggets so juicy?
01:32This is a blend of our own buffalo sauce.
01:34So, we make that buffalo sauce in-house with our own seasoning.
01:38Okay.
01:38So, that's what makes it so special.
01:41It's got a spice to it, right?
01:43So, on top of that, when you dip that into our homemade ranch, which we make in this premise, absolutely unbelievable.
01:50For everything on the menu, everything comes with crinkle cut fries.
01:53Absolutely.
01:53You can order them as a meal or you can also get them a la carte.
01:56So, our nuggets can come a la carte, our tenders can come a la carte, and our sandwiches can come a la carte.
02:02However, if you elect to put them into a meal format, you are going to get that crinkle cut fry.
02:06Their crinkle cut fries are thicker than everybody else's, right?

02:10No hollow.
02:11No hollowness on this at all, man.

02:14Hey, so, we're going for it right now.
02:16It's the Houston Hot Chicken.
02:17It's the big sandwich, like you mentioned.
02:19Coleslaw, you got your pickles, and, of course, you got your favorite spice of chicken.
02:23It's amazing, bro.
02:24Man.
02:24This defines us as a brand right there.

02:27It just comes off.
02:28You know what?
02:28You can tell a good chicken sandwich, man.
02:30When the chicken is over the bun, you know it's big, right?
02:33Okay, it's a brioche bun.
02:34That is a brioche bun.
02:36And I'll also point out, while you're getting in there, we'll get your reaction.
02:41You see steam coming out of here, right?
02:45Crispy, crunchy, the pickles.
02:47The pickles give it that flavor, man.
02:49You got a quality sandwich there.
02:50So, I'll point out, all that chicken is truly non-frozen chicken.
02:54This chicken comes in this building four days a week.
02:56We marinate it 24 to 48 hours in our old proprietary blends.
03:01And here's the big difference.
03:02We pressure fry the chicken.
03:03So, we're not giving you just a basket dropped piece of chicken.
03:07It is pressure frying so that it is actually, the cooking process is going completely throughout,
03:12delivering what you're tasting there.
03:13You know, I've been here several times before, and it's always consistent.
03:16You want to go somewhere that's consistency.
03:18Sometimes it might be on, sometimes it might not be.
03:21Every single time I come to Houston Hot Chicken, always the same, man.
03:25Tell me, what is this?
03:26That is our loaded fry.
03:27That is one of the best values you're going to get in this building.
03:31You got fries on top of pickles with coleslaw and our house sauce.
03:36Secret ingredient in that house sauce, I'll share it with you guys.
03:39It's mango.
03:40We actually blend mango in that house sauce when we make it on premise.
03:44That's why you're getting a little bit of spice into that on top of some sweetness.
03:48Like a breadless sandwich, like an open face pretty much, right?
03:51Yeah, that's exactly right.
03:52This is mild?
03:52That's a mild spice I gave you there.
03:54So, you go all the way up into what?
03:55So, we got, I'll run through the spicing.
03:58So, no spice, honey butter, pretty self-explanatory.
04:00When we get into mild, I like to refer to it as a hot paprika style.
04:05Okay.
04:05Okay, you're not going to get a ton of spice.
04:07You're going to get a lot of flavor.
04:08Yeah.
04:09Medium is when we start introducing the habanero pepper.
04:12So, that's where you're going to start getting what I like to refer to as a back-end kick.
04:16Yeah.
04:16It's not going to be spicy throughout the little sandwich, but you can get these back-end kicks of habanero.
04:20Yeah.
04:20The one I caution all customers is going from medium to spicy.
04:24Now, we're talking about a five-times jump, and you are getting spice from start to finish.
04:29I'm going to tell you, Houston Hot Chicken right now, my body temperature is like 112.
04:33Yeah.
04:33Because, you see, it heated me up right here.
04:36Buffalo, they heated me up, man.
04:37I'm trying not to sweat.
04:38That's why I put the HVAC.
04:39I put the air on for you.
04:40I'm trying not to sweat, man, but this is amazing right here.
04:43We got Liftoff.
04:44Liftoff is a scorpion pepper.
04:46That's beyond-
04:46Oh, a scorpion.
04:47I've never heard of scorpion pepper.
04:47That is going to give you some heat.
04:49And then we go to Houston.
04:51We have a problem.
04:51That is our last and top-notch spice, and let me tell you, it is a problem.
04:55You think we have a problem with chicken.
04:57It's so hot.
04:58You got to sign a waiver.
04:59You got to sign a waiver, okay?
05:01They're not going to be responsible for the hotness of the chicken.
05:04They've told you, Houston, we have a problem.
05:06We're going to go over here.
05:07Now, this dessert right here, after we eat some good chicken, not too many calories.

05:12No, of course not.
05:14Our waffle shake is one of our signature, I'll call it dessert, even though it is technically a milkshake.
05:19Yeah.
05:20Trey vanilla, strawberry, or chocolate.
05:21Okay.
05:22With some maple syrup, we are actually drizzling the cup.
05:25Fill it up with the ice cream.
05:27And then we are topping it off with that Belgian waffle.
05:31That Belgian waffle is a hot Belgian waffle, so it is melting some of that ice cream and allowing you to actually use it as a shake afterwards.
05:38I've never tasted a dessert like this ever in my life, so I'm tasting the sweetness.
05:42And you've got the cream mixed in with it, right?
05:44So look here.
05:45Absolutely.
05:45If you want some chicken, I mean some of the best tasting chicken in the world, and plus when you get it, it comes in a nice little box like this, right?
