00:00It's Jeff Kirkshen and Justin live at the CMAs with Riley Green.
00:03What's up?
00:04How you doing?
00:05I'm good, man. This is fun.
00:06Saw you crushing it at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
00:11You did an amazing show opening up for Luke Cobbs.
00:13Appreciate it, man.
00:14That was a really easy tour to be a part of.
00:17Obviously, you're playing in front of 50-something thousand people,
00:19and they're so fired up to be there.
00:21I'm such a big fan of Luke, too.
00:23It was great, man.
00:24Learned a lot.
00:25Very different than playing clubs and even arenas to do stadiums.
00:28So it was a really good tour to be a part of.
00:31Do you take a moment out on stage in a stadium to just totally absorb it because it's so different?
00:36I think if you take too much of a moment, you'll get nervous.
00:39For me, it's like I go out there, and as soon as that first chord hit,
00:42it's like the fans are so rowdy.
00:45I mean, that show in particular, I remember the crowd was just really into it,
00:48and it was just a lot of fun to be out there and play in front of that many people.
00:51I got a bone to pick with you.
00:52Okay.
00:53You make me party when I watch you,
00:55and then you make me cry with I Wish Grandpa's Never Died, just like that.
01:00I think it's really awesome for an artist like yourself to have such range.
01:03That's pretty special.
01:04I don't know if anybody's ever said that about me.
01:06I think I kind of live in one little place.
01:08No, I think you have more range than you think.
01:10Well, the thing is, I think I tend to write from a place that has some kind of emotion.
01:14I like to write about things I grew up and values that I learned as a kid and my family especially.
01:23People aren't going to walk around and cry all day,
01:25so you've got to write some stuff that's a little more fun
01:26and some things people can kind of roll the window down and enjoy.
01:29So I try to do a little of both.
01:30Congrats on the new album.
01:31It's awesome.
01:31Appreciate it, man.
01:32I front to back it.
01:33You've got to listen, because I know you put a lot of work in selecting where it's going to go.
01:38So it's a lost art sometimes, and it's great.
01:42We listened to it on the way down, which is we drove 14 hours to get here.
01:44Well, you've got to listen to it three times.
01:46Actually, on the way back, it's about three, Riley Green.
01:47You probably hate it right now.
01:49If that's all you listened to were 14 hours, you don't even want to talk to me.
01:52Well, we listened to the album on our way down.
01:55We listened to Megan Maroney's new album on the way down, too.
01:58Is there an album you're going front to back or recently went front to back on that you love
02:02or an artist that you love listening to these days?
02:04I'll tell you what I did the other day is I downloaded
02:07Alabama, 51 number ones or whatever.
02:12That's crazy.
02:13And just because for me, I'm a pretty good buddy of Randy Owen.
02:15He's an alumni of the college I went to and played ball at in Jacksonville, Alabama.
02:19And I just got to thinking about that of like 50-something hits to have been doing it that long.
02:25And I think for me in my career, like from a learning standpoint,
02:27that's what's really impressive to me because there is a lot about this that gets a little monotonous.
02:31You play the same songs every week.
02:32And to think about bringing that same energy and to really think about it as somebody's first show to hear you, maybe.
02:38You know?
02:39And for those guys to have a career like that, it was awesome.
02:41So, yeah, that album.
02:42What position did you play?
02:44I was the quarterback.
02:45Look at that.
02:46Is there a quarterback you grew up watching that was kind of an influence on you?
02:50Oh, yeah.
02:51So, in Alabama, you're either an Alabama or Auburn fan.
02:53And mine was Damian Craig at Auburn.
02:57And it was him and Freddie Kitchens was kind of against each other.
02:59And I picked Damian Craig, so I became an Auburn fan because of that.
03:02That's awesome.
03:03Riley Green on with us.
