00:00Joining us now is a man from Jacksonville, Alabama. He is a Division I quarterback at Jacksonville State. He was, I should say. He was a contestant on CMT's reality show, Redneck Island. He will be here July 8th with Luke Combs. Dude is absolutely jacked. Hair flow is unmatched. Ladies and gentlemen, it is Riley Greene.
00:17Riley the Dummy!
00:20I'll take you on the road with me, man. That's the best intro I've had in a long time.
00:23Here we go. I wanted it to be ever, but you can say long time. That's fine.
00:26Well, I did have one really good one at a fair in Cincinnati one time.
00:33Apparently I've got to go to that fair.
00:35Wow.
00:36Well, first and foremost, how are you?
00:39I'm good, man. This is a pretty exciting time. The stadium tour with Luke Combs.
00:44I know.
00:45New single with Luke Combs. It's been good.
00:48Any adjustments you've had to make for yourself? Let's talk about that first stadium that you did with Luke Combs.
00:54Is there anything you had to adjust in your set to kind of embrace that bigger crowd and that bigger venue?
01:01You really do. I mean, it's a different show.
01:04You know, it's, I mean, obviously it's the same fans and there's just more of them.
01:09But to really try to fill that stage up, it's, there's a little learning curve.
01:14It was, it was cool to get to kind of experience that the first time.
01:17I think we were at AT&T Stadium in Dallas and it's, it's, it's awesome though, man.
01:23It's a bunch of folks that are really happy to be out.
01:27And obviously Luke's doing so well, but you know, we kind of have the same type fan and then they're,
01:33they're showing up and they're loud and they're, they're rowdy.
01:36Well, you know, that's a good point.
01:37Riley, how would you describe like your, your fans?
01:42Is the word redneck the right way to describe it?
01:44No, not at all.
01:46But I like the fact you're on a show called Redneck Island.
01:49So he might as well tell you that.
01:50You always got to throw that in my intro.
01:52That's your favorite thing to bring up.
01:54That or it's not easy being green.
01:55One of the two is always going to happen.
01:57He probably watched it last night.
01:59Man, they're just, they're rowdy and they're, they're excited to be there.
02:06I mean, I'm, I'm still like, find myself feeling like a fan at a Luke Combs show.
02:10You know, I've been in them for a long time and to think that he's doing stadiums now,
02:14how big a deal that is and how kind of quickly that happened for him.
02:18I'm just glad to be a part of it.
02:19Yeah, it's very cool.
02:20Talking to Riley Green right now and you got a new song with Luke Combs called Different Round Here.
02:24Can you kind of tell me how this came about where you guys decided to collaborate together?
02:27Did this happen on tour or was this something that you guys had talked about prior to going on tour?
02:33I'd like to tell you some big story about how it went through the chain of command and then his management.
02:38But I just texted him and said, hey man, you want to be on the song?
02:41He's like, yeah.
02:43That works.
02:43That's the way to do it, man.
02:45Yeah, it's easy.
02:46Oh, I love that.
02:47Do you get to go out with Luke on one of his songs when you're on stage?
02:51I do.
02:51I've been going out and doing Eric Church's part and it does to me.
02:56Oh, very cool.
02:58There's a little pressure to be covering Eric Church's part.
03:00No, no, no.
03:01I mean, I had to bring the...
03:03He's got a little thing with the words on it.
03:05You can read a teleprompter.
03:07It's a teleprompter.
03:08He's got a thing with the words on it.
03:10There's a little karaoke session going on for Riley Green.
03:12He's got a little bouncing ball on the words.
03:14Yeah.
03:16Oh, my gosh, that's awesome.
03:18I love that, man.
03:19You know, is there something...
03:20You know, you guys are kind of...
03:22I know you guys are close friends.
03:23Is there anything that you've learned from Luke when it comes to, not being an artist,
03:27but playing at this level?
03:30Well, you know, even back when my first major tour that I got asked to be on was Brad Paisley.
03:35We've done Dierks and Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean.
03:40We've been on several big tours now.
03:41And you can't help but learn something from any of these guys, especially those guys that have been doing it forever.
03:47It's just bringing that same amount of energy every night.
03:50You know, because we play the same show every night.
03:52We play, for the most part, it's the same set list.
03:55And just remembering that there's somebody that will be hearing you for the first time
03:59and bringing that same energy is something that I always try to be mindful of.
04:03And Luke does a great job of that.
04:04And it's just a great show.
04:06I love it.
04:07Any tour pranks happen yet?
04:08Not yet, but I can only imagine it's in the works.
04:11So I'm keeping my head on a swivel.
04:14Yeah, well, Jordan Davis' song, By Dirt, they put a bunch of dirt in front of his dressing room.
04:19So I'm just trying to think of some of your song titles and what's going to happen with that.
04:22Be careful what you name your next single.
04:24Let somebody's grandpa loose in the green room or something.
04:26Yeah, kind of a Johnny Knoxville situation where he's dressed like an old man.
04:32Yeah.
04:33Why would I say that?
04:34That's a great idea.
04:35I don't want to get that from anybody else.
04:37Got your back on this one, man.
04:39We won't say anything.
04:39The song is different around here with Luke Combs.
04:43July 8th.
04:43We will see you.
04:44I cannot wait to see you here, man.
04:46We miss you, brother.
04:47And we appreciate your time.
04:48Thank you, man.
04:49Look forward to seeing you all, too.
04:50All right, dude.
04:50Take care.
04:51See ya.
04:51You
