00:00Tampa Bay's Morning Crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10We got Shelly on the phone. She's honoring her daughter for Military Monday today.
00:14Good morning, Shelly. How you doing?
00:15Great.
00:16Well, let's talk about Stacy. Tell us about your daughter. What does she do? How does she serve our country?
00:20So my daughter Stacy is in the Army National Guard.
00:25She is a mechanic stationed at Acrysta River.
00:28Okay.
00:28Um, she joined right out of high school. So she was a 2020 graduate. So, you know, she was in the middle of the pandemic, went straight from high school to basic training under COVID conditions.
00:42So they got to do all their basic training with mask and social distancing, which was an interesting experience for her.
00:49And she is currently a corporal. So she's ranked up four times.
00:53She, during the most recent hurricane, Hurricane Ian, she and her platoon were sent down to the Fort Myers area to provide humanitarian aid and they helped provide water and food to them.
01:07And she was actually driving the long haul truck beds down to them to make sure they got their stuff through the floodwaters.
01:13And she is getting ready to go to basic leadership school to promote to sergeant.
01:18Wow. Stacy has done a lot. I mean, this is, uh, it made the most of her opportunity in the National Guard. Let me ask you this. Is this something she wants to do for a career?
01:27She does. Um, ironically, growing up, she said she was never going to go in the military. I was in the military. She's like, nope, nope. Being shot at is the last thing that I want to do.
01:38But she made some choices in high school and let her grades slip. And she really wanted to go to college and decided that the military was the best opportunity for her.
01:46And the National Guard pays for her full college. And so she is currently also a full-time student and is looking at pursuing a degree in either teaching or nursing.
01:58Oh, this is so great. I love it. And it sounds like she's got a real servant's heart, you know, helping people through Hurricane Ian and then also joining the Army National Guard in the first place.
02:06What do you think makes her great at this calling?
02:09She, like, well, like you said, she truly just has a servant's heart. She has always wanted to see the greater good for everybody, regardless of their circumstances.
02:19And, you know, whether it's an animal on the side of the road or a homeless person while driving through Tampa, if she saw somebody on the side of the road, she would have me go to the nearest store to get them food and water, just because she's never wanted to see somebody go without.
02:32And the military is her way of giving back and serving, especially in the humanitarian effort.
02:39You know, it really helps make a difference in what is somebody else's worst day.
02:43You've got to be a proud mom.
02:45Very proud.
02:46I love that.
02:46Well, listen, getting to know Stacey here through you, Shelley, has been an absolute honor.
02:51And we're so thankful for her service and what she's doing.
02:54I mean, these are real things that she's doing and so tangible that we can, you know, you discuss like Hurricane Ian and all that.
02:59I mean, that was so big for everybody that was affected by the hurricane.
03:03We want to do this.
03:03We want to give you a $100 Amex gift card from Tampa Premium Outlets to hand over to her.
03:08And maybe you guys can go do something fun together.
03:10And just a small way for us to say thank you.
03:12Thank you so much.
03:13I will definitely give that to her, and she will be so grateful for it.
03:17Well, great, Shelley.
03:18And I appreciate your time this morning.
03:19Thank you so much.
