00:00Tampa Bay's morning crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10All right, we got Kelly on the phone for Military Monday.
00:13Good morning, Kelly. How are you?
00:15Good morning. Good, thanks.
00:16All right, I'm glad to have you on the show.
00:18And we want to talk about your son.
00:19Tell us how he serves in our military.
00:22My son is Specialist Alexander Whitman.
00:25And he joined the Army right out of high school in 2020 during COVID.
00:30So unfortunately, we didn't get to see his enlistment, his graduation, anything like that.
00:36But he's doing amazing.
00:38He's just been promoted.
00:40And he just received the Army Award for the completion of a mission recently that he led.
00:47Oh, wow.
00:48So I'm so proud of him. He's doing great.
00:50That is awesome, Kelly.
00:52Now, I always have to ask this when it comes to a parent.
00:54When your son comes to you and tells you that he wants to join the military, what are your first reactions?
01:00I mean, obviously, it was very hard.
01:03But for him, he was a 17-year-old, a very young 17-year-old boy who had no clue what he wanted to do,
01:10no real motivation to do anything.
01:13So honestly, I think the military saved him in this instance.
01:16And he has just grown so much.
01:18And he is so responsible.
01:20And just he's leading now.
01:22And it's awesome to see.
01:23So you see that.
01:25You actually can see, like, you know, I went from my son who kind of was trying to figure
01:30out his way to now someone you feel like has a purpose.
01:34Absolutely.
01:35And he is killing it.
01:36He is, you know, he's been promoted twice.
01:39He's getting ready to be promoted again.
01:41And he's just to see that he's, you know, getting this awesome award for completing this mission.
01:46And he's the one that led the mission.
01:48And it's just awesome to see.
01:50Well, good for Alexander.
01:51What high school did he go to?
01:52He went to Nature Coats.
01:55Okay.
01:55What are some of Alexander's hobbies he likes to do when he's either home or has some spare
01:59time?
02:00Oh, he's a gamer.
02:01So he's Magic the Gathering is his favorite thing.
02:05Okay.
02:06Gotcha.
02:07But he's found his people, though, because he's in the intelligence department.
02:11And they all are nerds like him.
02:13They're all like mom calling her son a nerd.
02:16I love that.
02:17Yep.
02:18He's one and he's proud.
02:20That is great, Kelly.
02:21Well, listen, we are so thankful for his service.
02:24And I'm so happy that you're getting to see this growth in your son.
02:27And I can just hear how proud you are in your voice.
02:30And I think that's so great.
02:32We want to do this, though, for him.
02:33We want to give him a $100 Visa gift card from our friends at Stingray Chevrolet.
02:37A small way for us to say thank you for his service and his sacrifices.
02:41Oh, thank you so much.
02:43He'll be so excited about that.
02:44Well, very cool.
02:45Thank you so much, Kelly.
02:46If you want to nominate someone for Military Monday or First Responder Friday, all you do
