00:00Tampa Bay's Morning Crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10It is Military Monday and we love bragging about those who live here in the Tampa Bay community
00:16and are out serving our country and I'm excited today.
00:19We are going to talk to Debbie and her son, William, serves in the United States Navy.
00:25Good morning, Debbie. How are you?
00:27I'm great, Lana. How are you?
00:29Doing good for a Monday. Now, tell us a little bit about your son, William.
00:33He started serving in 2009 and since then he has been on, this is his third, he's on a deployment as we speak.
00:41This is his third deployment.
00:42And where is he stationed now?
00:44Norfolk, Virginia.
00:46And I see here in your email that he is on a pretty big, important ship.
00:50Yeah, the George H.W., yep.
00:53Wow. So he's been in this for quite a while.
00:56So it sounds like he's, is he going to stay in this and maybe retire in the Navy?
01:01Absolutely. I have two children and both of them plan to do exactly the same thing.
01:06I have a daughter who's a chief in the U.S. Coast Guard.
01:09Oh my goodness, Mom.
01:11Okay, so how long has she been in the Coast Guard?
01:13She's been in 13 years and my son, Will, has been in for 10.
01:17Oh my gosh. Wow.
01:19Yeah, you are a busy, stressful mom.
01:21Is this something that runs in your family?
01:23Not at all.
01:24As a matter of fact, I mean, I have distant relatives that have been in the service, but with my children, they just felt the need to, you know, do their service.
01:33They wanted to, you know, protect everyone and, you know, just make sure that, you know, that their lives, you know, meant something.
01:41That's the one thing that they both wanted more than anything is just to make sure that they matter and they made a difference.
01:47All right.
01:47So I guess your daughter would be the first one that came to you and said, Mom, I think I'm going to join the military.
01:55And you said, what?
01:57Lana, I was, I was so beside myself because, you know, it's my baby girl.
02:02Right.
02:03And my husband was so funny.
02:06He was like, don't worry, Deb, she's not going to pass.
02:08She's not going to pass the test.
02:09She's not going to pass the test.
02:11And she came home and she told me she passed that test.
02:14I wanted to kill him.
02:16I was like, look what you did.
02:18Now what are we going to do?
02:20Our little baby girl is going to the military.
02:22Oh, my gosh.
02:23I can't even imagine as a mom.
02:25You know, you're so proud, but you are terrified at the same moment.
02:29Oh, I have had stress issues since the day they all went in.
02:34Let me tell you, because especially deployments, deployments are hard, like really hard.
02:40They last a long time.
02:42You don't get to hear from them.
02:43I mean, you know, now because of technology, it's a lot better.
02:47But just that distance from them, you know, not even the fact that he's deployed, but just being so far away from them all the time.
02:54And my daughter's first station was in Juneau, Alaska.
02:58Oh, wow.
02:59Okay.
02:59Yeah.
03:00So she's been all over.
03:02He's been all over.
03:03Like, it's hard.
03:04It's hard on the families that are left behind, you know, to worry about them.
03:08But they're doing what they have to do, and they've been trained for it.
03:12So I just have to keep that in the back of my mind and pray a lot.
03:15I pray a lot.
03:17I bet you do.
03:18Well, you know what?
03:19You are a very special mother.
03:22Two of your kids are out serving and protecting our country.
03:26So, you know, Mom, you're making a huge sacrifice as well.
03:30And like you said, I know you probably have a lot of nights that you're just sitting up, just, you know, thinking about your kids, making sure that they're safe and they're protected.
03:38So thank you for what you have done and everything that you go through.
03:42And just another way that we want to say thank you is we want to gift you this $100 American Express gift card from Tampa Premium Outlets.
03:50And you can give that to William.
03:52You guys maybe go out to dinner when he comes home or if there's something that he needs when he comes home.
03:56Another way that we just wanted to thank you for serving in our military.
04:01Oh, wow.
04:02There is nothing that I love more doing than to have a cup of coffee with you guys and talk about my babies.
04:08Oh, I love that.
04:09We want to give another big shout out again.
04:11Your son, William, who is in the United States Navy.
04:13And then tell me your daughter's name again.
04:15Barbara Lynn.
04:16Barbara Lynn.
04:16And she is part of the U.S. Coast Guard.
04:20Yes.
04:20Well, thank you so much, Debbie, for letting us hear the stories of your kids and bragging on both of them today for Military Monday.
04:27Thank you, Lana.
04:28Thank you so much.
04:29If you have somebody in your family that lives here right in the Tampa Bay area that is out serving our country, please, we want to hear about them, share their stories.
04:38We love to do that for our next Military Monday.
