00:00Man, I'll tell you what, I'm excited about this project.
00:03We've got the coolest whiskey in the world.
00:05Now we're going to go up another level with you.
00:07Oh, OK.
00:08He just wants to do something loud and wild.
00:11Is that?
00:12Yep, this is it.
00:13It's a 1970 ice cream truck.
00:15Whoa, whoa.
00:16It's a whiskey truck.
00:17It's about to be a whiskey truck.
00:19That thing's got a face like SpongeBob SquarePants.
00:22Well, let's start cutting, right?
00:26This thing's kind of turned into a can of worms, really.
00:28I think I've had stronger cardboard forks than the same.
00:34Jay Bear, what's happening?
00:35It's kind of a little Beverly Hillbillies thing, though.
00:37Man, yeah.
00:38A little bit of orange, a little bit of salmon.
00:40Oh, you make it sound real easy.
00:42Nightmare to come.
00:44We're open the cans of worms, ain't we?
00:46Oh, my god.
00:49Well, what do you think, Jay?
00:50I would not sell you a car that someone dies.
00:53You know what?
00:53God!
00:56I'm Joe Martin.
00:57I've been building cars and bikes since I was just a little kid.
01:01My team hunts down rusted wrecks.
01:03Are we going to work today, Joe, or what?
01:05We knock out the ugly and put in the cool.
01:10And turn these buckets of rust into street art.
01:14This is Iron Resurrection.
01:22So we got a call today.
01:23The guy that owns a whiskey company.
01:24He's got a project he's pretty excited about.
01:26He wants to come talk to us.
01:27He's going to come meet us.
01:28Can't wait to hear what he's got to talk about.
01:30We got a whiskey motorcade.
01:39This must be Ron.
01:40What's going on, guys?
01:42Hey, I'm Ron Stone.
01:43I'm the owner and creator of Garage Real American Badass Whiskey.
01:46Nice to meet you.
01:47Nice to meet you as well.
01:48It's my business partner, Lanny.
01:50Hi.
01:51We've got the coolest whiskey in the world.
01:52It's got this really cool retro Americana hot rod feel to it.
01:56So how can we help you, Ron?
01:57So our brand, Garage Real American Badass Whiskey,
02:00one of our greatest promotions is putting them on vehicles, right?
02:03Yeah, yeah.
02:04Well, looks like you guys achieved that.
02:05Yeah.
02:06No, no.
02:07This is just the beginning.
02:09We're going to talk to them about doing something for us
02:10that we can use as a rolling billboard.
02:12Now we're going to go up another level with you.
02:15Oh, OK.
02:15Just be the baddest hot rod billboard in the world.
02:18So, Ron, what do you got in mind?
02:19Are we going to do a hot rod?
02:20Or are we going to do a truck?
02:21What do you got in mind?
02:22Well, I don't have a vehicle.
02:25I don't have a vehicle picked out.
02:26I'm not sure what we're going to actually use.
02:28So maybe some big old metal square tin,
02:33like a big old side of something.
02:35So one of the things that's important to me
02:37is that whatever vehicle we choose, it's got a lot of real estate.
02:41Really, like, think about if it was the 50s and this brand was around,
02:44we had a cool-ass delivery truck.
02:46Oh, yeah.
02:47We can find something.
02:49I have so much confidence in Joe and his team.
02:51I'm happy to let you run wild with that,
02:54but in your, you know, style that's truly hot roddish.
02:58I think we're on the same page here, man.
02:59Heck, yeah.
03:00Let's go in the office and talk some more details.
03:03I'm going to give him the basics ideas and let him roll with it,
03:06because he'll know exactly what to do.
03:16He wants to do a whiskey van.
03:18Like a mascot vehicle?
03:20Yeah.
03:21Are we out on the hunt or are we?
03:22Well, Joe has a lead.
03:24Uh, you remember Rudy?
03:25Oh, yeah, of course.
03:26Joe thought it sounded like it might be a good candidate.
03:28Sounds good to me.
03:29Let's do it.
03:34Hey, Rudy.
03:35Hey, Mandy.
03:35How's it going?
03:36What's up, man?
03:37Good to see you.
03:38We could buy anything that has a lot of space on it,
03:41but it has to have the right character.
03:43It's been a while.
03:45It's got to have the right style to represent
03:47this brand properly.
03:49Is that...
03:50Yep, this is it.
03:54Why do you have an ice cream truck?
03:57Let's just start there.
03:58My youngest wanted to do a little ice cream business,
04:01so I picked it up with the plan of, you know,
04:04getting a full-on rolling ice cream truck.
04:06This was right pre-COVID,
04:08so we had some little plans.
04:10The dream killer.
04:11Yeah.
04:12So your daughter knows that you're selling it.
04:13Yeah, she does.
04:14We got the okay.
04:15Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:16Got the green light.
04:17Yeah, let's take a look.
04:18What year is it?
04:19It's a 70.
04:20It's got a straight six, three on the tree.
04:21Actually, the speaker and stuff works.
04:22Actually, my daughter, yeah, we had it playing around,
04:25driving it around.
04:26We've taken it to lunch a few times and stuff.
04:27Are you serious?
04:28Yeah.
04:29I mean, first impressions, it's perfect.
04:31Whoa, whoa.
04:32Oh, whoa.
04:33I'm gonna flip it over there.
04:35Oh, now.
04:36Dang.
04:37Nothing says lose weight like flipping an ice cream truck.
04:41It's pretty much all original except the back has been modified just a little bit.
04:45There's some flaws.
04:46You know, the back door area, I guess they backed into a loading dock or something.
04:50It looked like the back's been trimmed a little.
04:52Yeah.
04:53Got that double bumper.
04:54Uh-huh.
04:55You know?
04:56Yeah.
04:57There's so much that the guys are gonna change anyways that it's perfect the way it is.
05:01I really do think this is probably exactly what he's looking for.
05:05Yeah.
05:06So what's the damage?
05:08Uh, well, you know, they're kind of hard to come by.
05:12Oh, here we go.
05:13Uh, I've been looking to get around in like $7,500.
05:16It's Rudy.
05:17It's our buddy.
05:18Yeah.
05:19There's no reason to get into that tennis match of, well, half and half and cut it up and
05:22do all this thing.
05:23Total fair BS going back and forth.
05:24To me, this is a $5,000 ride.
05:26Uh, you do a little bit better than $5,000.
05:31I had told this guy it should be in the $4,500 range.
05:35Gotcha.
05:36I just wanted to get a number that was fair for both of us.
05:39I mean, $5,000, $5,500.
05:41Um, it's been parked for a couple years, you know?
05:45Yeah.
05:46So, $5,500.
05:48Um, I'd do $5,500 for you guys.
05:50Would you?
05:51Okay.
05:52Yeah, yeah, for sure.
05:53$2,000 less than what he asked.
05:54I think that's a very fair price.
05:56Yeah.
05:57In a case of whiskey?
05:58You know, they're, they're friends of mine and I know that was their budget.
06:01Dude, I really dig this.
06:02Thank you, Rudy.
06:03Guys are going to be happy and I think even better, our customer's going to be happy.
06:06Can you help me load it up?
06:07Let's do it.
06:08It's an ice cream truck.
06:10It's a 1970 ice cream truck.
06:12That's all you need to know.
06:13It's perfect.
06:14Well, it's a whiskey truck.
06:15It's a whiskey truck.
06:16It's a whiskey truck.
06:17It's about to be a whiskey truck.
06:19So, Shag and Mandy went to Rudy's to check out this step van.
06:23So, they're on their way back with it.
06:25So, I'm guessing they got a good deal on it.
06:26We'll see.
06:29Oh, man.
06:30Look at this, mate.
06:31What?
06:32Oh, is that our, that's our project?
06:33What is that, man?
06:34Is that for the whiskey gig or what?
06:36That's for the whiskey gig, man.
06:38What are you laughing at?
06:40You start laughing when you see something like this.
06:43Oh, man.
06:44The back end's missing.
06:45Look at it, Joe.
06:46Oh.
06:47The back of this thing's the real head scratcher because, in all honesty, the rest of it wouldn't
06:51be that bad if the back was with it.
06:54Don't focus on the negative.
06:55Hey, you gotta look at the rest of it.
06:56Look at the rest of it.
06:57Yeah.
06:58Okay.
06:59Focus.
07:00Look at the other bones.
07:01Focus, man.
07:02Just focus.
07:03This thing is perfect, in my opinion.
07:05In every way.
07:06That thing's got a face like SpongeBob Squarepants.
07:08I'm like, I'm surprised you even know that.
07:10I'm not sure what they paid for this thing.
07:12I hope it wasn't a whole lot because there's not a whole lot here.
07:15I can't remember what Rudy was asking.
07:17$7,500.
07:20You don't know what he paid?
07:21That's not what we paid for.
07:22Well, of course not.
07:23$5,500.
07:2410 years ago, it would've been $500.
07:26You're hauling off for me.
07:28When we first talked about this project, it was going to be nice, smooth, and one of them
07:31fun jobs, and it just all of a sudden got unfun when we saw it.
07:35Yeah, but look at this.
07:37It's a big old cap.
07:38It is a billboard.
07:39It's a rolling billboard.
07:40That's what he wanted.
07:41I think it's badass, actually.
07:42It's, it's, yeah.
07:43The more you look at it, the more you like it.
07:44Well, if it had the other six inches, it'd be real badass.
07:47Obviously, it's going to be sitting lower.
07:49It's going to have a new frame, new wheels, new tires, new floors.
07:52It's going to be martinized.
07:53Yes.
07:54Well, I definitely think we ought to send some pictures to Ron.
07:57Yeah, I think so, too.
07:58Before we turn it, just make sure, because this thing needs a lot of work.
08:01Uh-huh.
08:02Either way, you have an ice cream truck now.
08:04Oh, yeah.
08:05Let's unload it.
08:06Get some pictures done.
08:07All right.
08:09It's something.
08:14It's time.
08:15It's time.
08:16So I sent pictures of this old Chevy step van to Ron.
08:19I'm really excited about this thing.
08:20So he's ready for us to get started on it.
08:22So we'll get Mike Z out there.
08:23Probably Uncle Bill helps us out.
08:25What's going to turn into his whiskey van.
08:27Man, it's pretty solid, man.
08:29That's good.
08:30Well, let's start cutting, Mike.
08:32You got the van on the lift.
08:33So we're going to start taking the body off the frame.
08:43Yeah, you want to take this off?
08:44She's kind of surprised as we have underneath there.
08:46Uh, the things I'm trying to keep intact are mainly just the body.
08:57That's the fit-all.
09:01Oh, .
09:02Bill.
09:03Take that ear off.
09:04My bad.
09:05Did it get you?
09:06I told you.
09:07And there's about four pieces of that on this truck.
09:08I don't want to tear anything up.
09:09Look.
09:10What does that tell you?
09:11Sometimes it's like an archeologist in here.
09:12We want to salvage everything.
09:13Basically, we want to get the frame out underneath, all the running gear, all the wiring out, and
09:27then it's going to be ready for sandblast.
09:29The engine in it isn't really worth saving.
09:31That's unhooked.
09:32It's just an old six-cylinder.
09:37And something's still hanging, Mike.
09:40Doesn't matter to me because we're not going to use it.
09:42We're going to put an ALS in here.
09:43Still hanging somewhere, brother?
09:45If we can figure out what the is holding it.
09:53What did we do wrong here?
09:54That ain't right.
09:55Look here, man.
10:08Oh.
10:09Got our clutch rod.
10:10The clutch assembly on this thing was hanging us up two or three times.
10:14Once you get that cutting wheel out, though, it'll solve all your problems.
10:19That's it.
10:20See it fall?
10:21Yep.
10:22I think we're done, Bill.
10:23Go on up.
10:24Put the cap on it.
10:25I think so.
10:26That's Huckleberry, man.
10:28We're definitely unhooked.
10:29Come on up.
10:30This thing had a few surprises in it.
10:31You ready to move it?
10:32Yeah, that's it.
10:33But it's taken care of now.
10:34We'll get it off and we'll get it in the shop.
10:36Man, now what do we do with this son of bitch?
10:40We got a call today from our really good friend, Jay Bear.
10:57And he was coming home from the Lone Star Roundup in his 54 wagon.
11:01And the hood flew up.
11:03He had to pull over immediately.
11:05It just trashed the hood.
11:07So we're going to try to help him out.
11:10Jay Bear, what's happening?
11:12This are it.
11:15Man, you got some tie downs on the hood there.
11:17I do.
11:18It's not what's happening.
11:19It's what happened.
11:20Yeah.
11:21Car was coming on the freeway, so I gassed it a little bit.
11:24And then, surprise, the hood came up, you know, right in my face.
11:29I'd show you under the hood, but it's difficult.
11:31It looks like a lot of work to get the hood up.
11:33It is kind of.
11:34It's unfortunate that the hood popped up on it.
11:37I mean, that stuff happens to all of us.
11:39You did.
11:40It did happen.
11:41Probably two times for me.
11:42This is my second.
11:43Is it?
11:44Oh, OK.
11:45We're tied.
11:46I'm here today to get Joe to look at it,
11:49see if that hood can even be straightened out,
11:51even though I doubt it and I have a backup plan.
11:54It's kind of a little Beverly Hillbillies thing going on.
11:56It is, man.
11:57Yeah.
11:58I've got you for a Chrysler wagon.
12:00You just don't see them very often.
12:02Very rare.
12:03Oh, wow.
12:04Man, that's awesome.
12:05It's just really cool.
12:07It's all late model driveline.
12:09Fire it up.
12:10Fire it up.
12:11Oh, you got a Hemi in here, Jay.
12:15Air conditioning, disc brake.
12:18It even has a backup camera.
12:20Man, that's a beauty, Jay.
12:21Just a really cool car.
12:23They did the patina on it.
12:24It makes it more fun to drive
12:26because you don't have to worry about a nice fancy paint job.
12:29So you think you can straighten that hood out?
12:32That hood?
12:33Yeah.
12:34I did buy a hood online.
12:36I sent it into me sandblasting,
12:38and I was kind of waiting to tell Joe to see
12:40if he could save this hood, just see how good he is.
12:43We could probably buy three or four nice hoods
12:45for what it costs to fix that one.
12:47I already did.
12:48I was just checking.
12:49Oh, you're already pulling my leg.
12:50Yeah.
12:51So you're saying you got a hood?
12:52I do.
12:53Oh, Frank.
12:54It's at the sandblaster.
12:55Fortunately, he found a very clean hood.
12:58That was going to be the hard part.
12:59To me, it's fine.
13:00You know, another $54 Chrysler hood to fit this thing.
13:03My concern is just some things we want to check out.
13:06A lot of the natural patina, we got to try to make all this,
13:09kind of blend back in.
13:10A little bit of red primer, a little bit of lighter primer,
13:14a little bit of orange, a little bit of sanding.
13:16That's going to definitely be the challenge.
13:18Well, Jay, I guess bring us a hood.
13:19We'll get cracking on this thing.
13:21OK, great.
13:22Sounds good.
13:23We're OK.
13:30Well, I guess we'll let it down.
13:31So after we got the whiskey band tore down,
13:33we realize we'll probably have to sandblast this thing.
13:35Yeah, this is going to hit right here.
13:36Yeah.
13:37I'm going to go get my welder.
13:38Come on, baby.
13:39First thing we're going to do is going to mount it to the frame table,
13:42center line everything, put it on rollers,
13:44and roll it out back and blast it.
13:46I got marks.
13:47Pretty close.
13:48If you want to eyeball the front and back.
13:49The main reason for mounting it to the table before we blast it
13:52is we just want it to maintain integrity.
13:54Well, it's seesawing, but it'll be all right.
13:55Yeah, but that's all right.
13:56This thing's going to be kind of flimsy once we cut a lot of it away.
13:59So we go ahead and mount it on the table.
14:01It's going to be easier.
14:02Don't you nosedive, man.
14:04Oh, we got that son of a bitch.
14:06It's looking good here.
14:07You need to weld it down.
14:08Let the nightmare begin.
14:13I'm going to put a little patina on it.
14:17We're in business.
14:18You want me to stick it right here, you think?
14:20I think so, brother.
14:21Something.
14:22Now that we've got it mounted to the frame table and it's stable,
14:25we can go ahead and start bracing up the inside
14:27and start removing a lot of this metal out of the way
14:29that's not going to be usable.
14:32OK.
14:33Oh, it just fell out.
14:39Look at that.
14:40Damn.
14:41Yeah.
14:42Damn.
14:43So we'll get all that mess out of the way.
14:44That way they only have to sandblast the metal that we need blasting.
14:54There's your door, Joe.
14:55All right.
14:56Let me get me some bracing going.
14:59I need to X brace this back here.
15:01Because after we take this back piece out of it,
15:03it'll keep the walls from doing this.
15:05And we don't want that to happen.
15:10Making some progress on this whiskey van.
15:12I got Mike tearing the whole back panel.
15:19Look at that.
15:20House framing.
15:21Oh, this dirty dog bastard.
15:26This thing's kind of turned into a can of worms, really.
15:29Man.
15:30I'm glad I braced that bastard.
15:31Seeing where everything's been cut away.
15:33Look at that .
15:34Oh, my God.
15:35More rust up in the corners.
15:37God.
15:39Dang, man.
15:41Mm-mm-mm.
15:42We're just uncovering a lot of bad work.
15:44I feel like I need a techno shot.
15:46What a mess.
15:47So the more we uncover, the more we got to address.
15:49Every 10 minutes of tear down, we had a month.
15:51Yeah.
15:52We better hurry up and get it tore down, huh?
15:54Whoever did this, if they're watching,
15:56you can come get your stuff, man.
15:58We don't need it.
15:59Nasty.
16:00Nasty.
16:01We got the whiskey van set outside today,
16:13and Mike's gonna cut the floors out of this thing
16:15so we get it sandblasted.
16:17The reason we sandblast these things
16:19is because we got to get all the old paint off,
16:20all the old surface rust, all the crud underneath.
16:23And really, we just want to see what's underneath this thing.
16:26My don't roll very good.
16:28This van specifically has a lot of crustaceans underneath it,
16:31a lot of rust.
16:32We need to get it all off.
16:36All right, man.
16:37Baby Blue, come on.
16:59So we just got done sandblasting the whiskey van here.
17:02Got it rolled back in the driveway,
17:03and now we're kind of evaluating everything.
17:07I don't know the more I look at you.
17:08I think we just bought it for the VIN number.
17:11Yeah, now that we got the whiskey van blasted and stuff,
17:13it just got a little uglier, to be honest with you.
17:16Damn, right?
17:17Man, I know. Look.
17:18We knew it was in bad shape, but now it's like, damn.
17:22There's a lot of spots that we knew were going to be bad.
17:25There's some spots, too, that were kind of covered up.
17:27We didn't see.
17:28We should have took more time, but it is what it is.
17:32Here's the beauty of this thing, though, man.
17:33Is there a beauty in this thing?
17:35Well, you notice some of the sheet metals overlapped, right?
17:37That's the factory look of it.
17:39Well, fortunately, with the design of this thing,
17:41the panel work was actually layered over.
17:44So they do panels, and then they do these little rivets on there.
17:48I say we just refix the panels, redesign the panels,
17:50and then overlap it, spot it like a factory.
17:53It saves us a lot of time instead of trying to fit a panel in,
17:55you know, butt welding it really nice, TIG welding it.
17:58Seam seal some areas.
18:00Man, it'll look kind of like a factory deal.
18:02With that method, that's definitely going to help our time frame.
18:05Okay.
18:06Hey, man, it's going to be badass, man.
18:07Okay.
18:08Ron, he's going to be digging this thing.
18:09So the next step is,
18:10Ryan's going to clean this thing up,
18:11and we'll put a little primer on there to keep it from rustin'.
18:13And take it inside and start building the frame.
18:16Let's get it out of the sun,
18:17before it knocks more holes in it.
18:18Yeah.
18:23All right, Mike.
18:24Got old buddy, Jay Bears 54.
18:26So we got Jay Bears 54 wagon here,
18:28and we got a replacement hood that he found.
18:31Got it put in primer so we can start handling it and working it.
18:34He's lucky.
18:35He's good. He's real lucky.
18:36He's lucky.
18:37Didn't tear up the glass and tear up the trend
18:39and tear up the top of the roof.
18:40That's unstrapped a hood.
18:41Let's see, man.
18:42So first thing we want to do is,
18:44Mike and I are going to actually get this hood off.
18:46That one's still attached.
18:47Oh, yeah.
18:49And take the hinges off.
18:51What size is that bolt?
18:52Can you see it?
18:53Man, that thing's a 716's, Mike.
18:54Is it?
18:55Will you hold that hood right there?
18:56That's weird looking, man.
18:57Hold that hood right there.
18:58And we're going to fit the new hood.
19:00I'm going to take my time.
19:01So we want to do kind of like a pre-little fitment.
19:05We want to make sure none of the structure got damaged in here
19:07when the hood blew up.
19:08Check our gaps.
19:09Make sure that hood's in good shape.
19:10Do you have new hinges, you said?
19:12I sure do, Mike.
19:16Damn, look at that.
19:17Part of the hood hinge you've got to get inside the car, man.
19:19Oh, man.
19:20How do you get them bolts, Zach?
19:21The problem is we've got two bolts on each hinge
19:23that have got to come out.
19:25I don't know.
19:26And you can't even see them.
19:28So a little simple procedure has turned into a nightmare.
19:32Of course it has, because I'm involved.
19:34It's down in there, and you know what I'm saying?
19:36I can't see at this angle.
19:37Oh, I see.
19:38What kind of project do you drag me in on here?
19:40Come on, Mike.
19:43Some of the access to the hood hinges is underneath the dash.
19:49I think we've got to take these off.
19:51We have AC in the way, AC ducts.
19:53Nightmare gun.
19:55Kick panels.
19:56Oh, .
19:57We're opening cans of worms, ain't we?
19:59Oh, my God.
20:00Speakers.
20:01All this stuff's in the way.
20:02Dynamat.
20:03Yeah, there ain't no, yeah.
20:05We might have to get a mechanic in here, Joe.
20:06.
20:07Dang, man.
20:08It's turned into a total disaster.
20:09So maybe it'll get easy real quick.
20:11I don't know.
20:18Damn, dude.
20:19I don't understand these bolts.
20:21Removing these hood hinges from Jay's 54 wagon
20:23is turning out to be a nightmare.
20:24Turns out we've got to actually take all the stuff out of the way.
20:27Pain in the ass.
20:28We've got to pull the duct out of the back of it, see?
20:30And then I think you can have access to the screws.
20:36Come on, man.
20:39We've got the glove box open.
20:44I got it now, Joe.
20:45This thing is good as done, dog.
20:47Okay, Joe.
20:48Anything going on out there?
20:50The way Chrysler designed the hinges,
20:52there's a little threaded-in stud,
20:53so we're trying to unscrew it, and the stud's spinning.
20:56Why would they do that?
20:57Because if that stud don't come out, you're screwed.
20:59I don't know, man.
21:00So it's kind of making a tricky situation.
21:05I'm grinning like a mofo now.
21:07Oh, it's coming loose now, Mike.
21:09Oh, hell yeah, it is.
21:10I'm on it.
21:11Oh, look.
21:14Finally got them off.
21:16We're gonna make some modifications to the new hinges.
21:21Actually gonna tack weld the studs so they don't spin on us.
21:30So we'll move forward,
21:31make the adjustments to our hood hinges,
21:33put the hood on it,
21:34and hopefully everything lines up good.
21:38Okay.
21:39Ready for a new hood, Mike?
21:40Yeah.
21:41Let's go get it.
21:42I can't believe we found this hood.
21:43I know.
21:44I can't believe it either, man.
21:45Thank God.
21:46You want to get that side there, brother?
21:47You want?
21:48You want to get that?
21:49Drop that damn knife, Mike.
21:51Oh.
21:53I heard the odds he's gonna fit perfect first time.
21:56Let's see what we got here, boys.
22:02Oh, man, that ain't bad right there.
22:04Hey, man.
22:05My side's perfecto.
22:06We finally got the hood on the car.
22:08So we were happy with the placement of it.
22:10We got it locked down.
22:11That looks pretty good, man.
22:13I wish it was painted.
22:15Brian's got some holes to weld up,
22:17some of the emblems we're deleting,
22:18bodywork spots to deal with.
22:20Yeah, I can probably dolly that out.
22:21Yeah.
22:22And we can do the painting process and get it bolted back on.
22:27Right on, Brian.
22:37What I'm doing right now is drawing our 70s step van.
22:40It's gonna turn into the whiskey van.
22:42Well, that's the tricky thing is 70s step van really has no style.
22:46It's like a toaster on wheels.
22:49So we actually got to give this thing a little bit of style.
22:51It's gonna kind of wake it up a little bit.
22:54You know, back then they were just a utilitarian vehicle.
22:57I mean, it might have been the plumbers,
22:58it might have been the electrician,
23:00might, you know, deliver milk, bread and the thing.
23:02But, you know, fast forward all these years,
23:04just their square little design is kind of cool now.
23:12After talking to Ron,
23:13we wanted kind of a rustic looking project,
23:15which works out great.
23:16He's a big personality,
23:17and we need this van to kind of match his personality, I think.
23:21We want to form some new metal.
23:23We're gonna form on bumper.
23:25It's cool roll pans.
23:26I'm thinking drop it down.
23:27We're gonna build a trick frame for it.
23:28Get it super low.
23:29Get some big wheels under there.
23:31But the fun thing for me is
23:33I'm gonna replicate some of the artwork
23:35that's on the bottle on the side of the van.
23:37Essentially, it's a rolling billboard.
23:39I think it's gonna be a fun little challenge,
23:41and we can't wait to get started.
23:51Ron's gonna come by
23:52and check out the bare bones of this whiskey van.
23:54We got sandblasted.
23:55We got a brace.
23:56We got the floors cut out.
23:57Can't wait to see what he thinks about it.
24:02Oh, man, look at this thing.
24:03Look at this boy.
24:04Oh, there he is.
24:05I'm back here at Martin Brothers again today
24:07because Joe sent me some pictures,
24:09and I'm digging what he sent me.
24:13There he is, the wild man.
24:14Gentlemen.
24:15What's happening, Ron?
24:16What's up?
24:17Today I get to see it in person.
24:18I guess they've got it sandblasted.
24:19So I'm excited, brother.
24:22Today's the day I get to see it with my own eyes, right?
24:24Joe and I were kind of nervous about him
24:26seeing this thing to start with.
24:27We're used to seeing them all trashed out like this,
24:30and we're just worried about the customer.
24:31Well, what do you think here?
24:33Is that it?
24:34That's it.
24:40Is that it?
24:41That's it.
24:42You know, after it's sandblasted and primed,
24:44it still looks like a piece of crap.
24:46That's our van.
24:47We're hoping it wasn't scaring y'all.
24:49It's a little scary.
24:50That's one thing we was worried about with Ron.
24:52Are you sure that's it?
24:53No, I'm just kidding you.
24:54I love it, man.
24:55I love it.
24:56So when I first saw the van, I thought, good lord.
24:59This is like a little tin can that I could put my finger through
25:02or I could knock it over if I wanted to.
25:04So it feels like it's got a long way to go.
25:10This stuff will be cut away.
25:11We'll form all new panels.
25:13But I can see it, man.
25:14I can see the future.
25:15And then, you know, the rest is just a big giant canvas, man.
25:19Because I know they can do what they do, it's going to be amazing.
25:21So everything will be handmade.
25:22We'll do a handmade frame.
25:23We're going to do an LS on this thing.
25:25You're going to do what?
25:26Not really sure where we're going to get the motor yet for this thing.
25:29Wait.
25:30How are you going to fit an LS in here?
25:32Very carefully.
25:33You've got to try to find one and see if we can get it set in there.
25:37I'm not scared.
25:38It's a little nervous.
25:39Yeah.
25:40Well, we understand.
25:42Yeah.
25:43We're a little nervous, too.
25:44I know that what we're going to do to it is going to be a transformation that's just
25:48going to blow people away.
25:49I have 100% faith in that.
25:51Well, if you feel good about it, I feel good about it.
25:53Mike?
25:54I feel great about it.
25:55You feel great about it.
25:56Yeah.
25:57I do now.
25:58I'll see you next time around.
25:59Appreciate it.
26:00And we will tear this up.
26:01All right, man.
26:06Where are we going?
26:07Well, I guess we do the corners first.
26:09So we've been putting a lot of work on this whiskey van.
26:12And we've discovered a lot of rust, obviously, after it's sandblasted.
26:16And so we just got a lot of panel making.
26:22So we decided to start with kind of one of the hardest areas.
26:25This overhead panel over the windshield that is completely rotted away.
26:29Well, you cut the rest out.
26:30I'll make you a new one, Mike.
26:31Okay.
26:32These are the corners Mike just cut off the whiskey van.
26:39These are the header panel above the windshield.
26:42We're going to have to shape this piece.
26:44So basically what I did is take my template, came off of this, pull that off,
26:49transferred it to my metal, and traced that on my sheet metal.
26:53In the end, we want this to look like this when it's finished and shrunk.
27:02I'll keep this as kind of like a buck, so my new piece of metal, as I form it,
27:11I'll just come over here and test it and see how close it is to that.
27:29Getting close, Mike.
27:30Look.
27:31Mike and I work pretty good together on projects like this.
27:34Mike gets everything cut out, get some templates made.
27:37I'll fab the piece, hand it off to him.
27:40He'll reinstall it.
27:41That's badass, actually.
27:42All right, Mike, I guess.
27:43Now that we've got that set up, we can get this.
27:45Let's roll this piece here.
27:52Pull this one.
27:53There we go.
27:54Aw, man.
27:56Look at that.
27:57Man, it ain't bad for a couple gringos, Mike.
27:59That's a good point.
28:03All right, Brian.
28:05So we've got Jay Bear's 54 wagon here.
28:07Yeah, so now we've got the hood off, and Brian's got some spots to deal with.
28:11Before we get to paint, we've got some work to do.
28:15First, I'm going to get this trim off and assess all the holes that I need to fill.
28:21Now I'm going to punch some holes here, and hopefully they'll be the right size to fill them.
28:28Take this little dude here.
28:30All the fab work that I have to do is just fill in some little holes.
28:34A couple of emblems that were previously on this we don't need anymore, so.
28:40I've got to delete this trim on the front, fill all the holes for mounting that.
28:57And then fix and dance.
29:07I got the metal work done on the top side of the hood, so we can move on to matching a paint.
29:14So Mike Z's got a lot of these rusty panels on this step van cutaway.
29:25We had to fabricate those pieces, and so we just got a lot of panel making.
29:31It's definitely, you know, being a panel van.
29:33I mean, there's a lot of panels.
29:34They all have damage.
29:35So we'll just go through them, but I think that we can kind of go back with that true form.
29:39So go back, kind of rivet it in.
29:42The way it was built originally, give it that look where it's kind of bolted together and riveted together.
29:47Makes it easier than having to weld everything and distorting the metal.
29:50And then getting all this waves back in the metal.
29:53There's really no way to tell how long these panels are going to go.
29:57Being that that front header panel went pretty quick.
30:00It just gives me a good feeling starting on this project.
30:03Oh, that's a lot better than what it was.
30:05Yeah, it's cool, ain't it?
30:06Yeah.
30:07I think the rest of it being just angular brakes, it's going to go pretty fast.
30:19This one looks pretty close.
30:20I'm going to go check it on the car real quick.
30:22Right now, I'm trying to find paint for our 54 New Yorker wagon that we've got to match.
30:30That one's too green.
30:31I need it to be more gold.
30:32This car's a 1954, so our paint system doesn't pull up paint codes from back then.
30:38This color was just named the same.
30:41The factory color is a sea island green.
30:43I bet you this is going to be way too dark.
30:46I just got to find something close to that and hopefully I can get it matching really well.
30:51Because this is going to be too blue.
30:53It is a pretty lengthy process to even match paint.
30:56All right.
30:58Seven.
30:59It looks different in the can than it does when you spray it out.
31:02Looking pretty good.
31:03You got to go through the whole process until you've got to the end result.
31:09It's pretty close.
31:10It still needs to be darker.
31:13Right now, I'm kind of going in circles.
31:16What's going on, bro?
31:17Just that spray out I made, it ended up being way too green.
31:21I've tried a couple of different paint codes and kind of cocktailed them up a little bit.
31:27Just got too much of like a vibrant green.
31:30They're not quite to my liking.
31:31Look how close that is, man.
31:33I'm just going to keep on keeping on.
31:35What a hassle, man, huh?
31:36Until I get it right.
31:38It's a tough one.
31:39God.
31:40It'll make your brain hurt.
31:42This is the one that I'm thinking is going to work on the 54 wagon.
31:51It's been a long process to get this to match, but I think we're there.
31:56I used the original paint code that I started with, and I just kind of doctored it up a little
32:02bit.
32:03I'm feeling pretty confident on this stuff.
32:05I'll get Joe to come take a look at it, and we'll see what he thinks.
32:08Man, how's that match coming, Brian?
32:10Man, I think I nailed it.
32:11Well, you damn sure did, didn't you?
32:13So, Brian got the paint matched on this car.
32:15It looks great.
32:16Yeah, we got a little bit of green up here.
32:18Aw, man.
32:19That's awesome, dude.
32:20It looks like it's going to blend really well.
32:22It looks like a predator, man.
32:23It's like a predator.
32:24You know it's there, but you can't see it.
32:27Sweet, man.
32:28Right on, right on.
32:29Well, hell, you're ready to spray, huh?
32:30Yeah.
32:37So, first step is getting the base color on.
32:40Kind of get the base on there.
32:47And then we'll mix up the primer color to simulate the patina.
33:01Man, that looks pretty damn good, Brian.
33:03We'll experience a touch-up gun, airbrush maybe a little bit.
33:06A little bit of black going there.
33:10So, we'll kind of experiment.
33:11Hopefully, we can get it to blend really well.
33:16Man, I think that's it, Brian.
33:17Yeah, that looks good, man.
33:18You did a hell of a job, brother.
33:19Those colors are killer, man.
33:20Jake's going to be happy.
33:21Heck, yeah.
33:22I'll slap some coats of clear on this thing,
33:23and we'll get this thing out of here.
33:24Hell yeah, dude.
33:25This thing's killer, isn't it?
33:26It's so cool.
33:28We're here today to deliver Jay's 54 wagon.
33:29You know, we're excited.
33:30We're, you know, nervous at the same time.
33:31Dang, the blend job on the hood.
33:32Came out pretty good.
33:33Brian did a killer job on it.
33:34How you guys do that?
33:35That is artwork.
33:36We're here.
33:37We're here today to deliver Jay's 54 wagon.
33:39You know, we're excited.
33:40We're, you know, nervous at the same time.
33:41Dang, the blend job on the hood.
33:43Came out pretty good.
33:44Brian did a killer job on it.
33:45How you guys do that?
33:46That is artwork.
33:47Yeah, it looks as good as old.
33:48Yeah.
33:49I mean, we're trying to make the car look old,
33:50and it blended in really well.
33:51I think he's going to like it.
33:52We're here today to deliver Jay's 54 wagon.
33:53We're here today to deliver Jay's 54 wagon.
33:54You know, we're excited.
33:55We're, you know, nervous at the same time.
33:56Dang, the blend job on the hood.
33:57Came out pretty good.
33:58Brian did a killer job on it.
33:59How you guys do that?
34:00That is artwork.
34:01Yeah, it looks as good as old.
34:02Yeah.
34:03I mean, we're trying to make the car look old,
34:04and it blended in really well.
34:05I think he's going to like it.
34:08Jay-Ber, what's happening?
34:09Hey, how you doing?
34:10With Jay, you can tell Jay's a,
34:11I'd say he kind of has a poker face.
34:12He definitely has a poker face.
34:13You know, he comes from the car business.
34:15That's exciting.
34:17How are you doing?
34:18Hey, Jay.
34:19How are you doing?
34:20Good to see you, man.
34:21Good to see you.
34:22But, you know, we saw a lot of teeth,
34:23and that's a good sign.
34:25That's a good sign.

35:45so bambo brown put a bug in our ear about a suburban he's got it's got a 5-3 in it with some decent
36:04miles on it so this might be a good donor motor for ron's whiskey van so we send chag and the man
36:09over there see if we can beat him out of it today is a special date no i'm just kidding we're gonna
36:16go see our friend bam around bam calls joe he's got an ls that he's gonna sell us and um or try to
36:23sell us he's always got what we need ironically enough and according to him and never what we need
36:28always always yeah i haven't been to his place in a while it'll be good to see it it's like missing a
36:34tooth infection oh look at that guy there he is why does he look so happy well hello it's our long
36:53lost friend bamma brown it's so good to see you and you brought a trailer which we're you're gonna
36:58buy something don't don't read into that listen we know you like a good tease we're trying to make
37:03the whiskey truck a modern driving car so we are looking for a motor i mean modern and bam is what
37:09got me sorry to think anything modern at bamma's places i know yeah ironic it is but we're gonna
37:15check it out we're gonna see what he's got and see if we can make it work you know what this one you
37:20don't even need the trailer you could drive it home this thing is that nice so you don't even need
37:24the trailer let the lies begin all we know is that it's an ls53 we don't know story story what
37:29it's in this suburban is so nice it was actually owned by a little old lady really was this time
37:34i mean no it's two lies it's true it really was okay uh friend of ours that was like somebody's
37:42mother or something that had it you know was in in the yard they wanted to get rid of it i'm always
37:46so far we got you can drive it back we got little old lady owned it well i'm glad you brought the
37:51trailer though it's all right let's go okay decide for yourself okay i just know that when
37:56you get out of the car and he's like oh man you're gonna be able to drive it back and it's awesome
37:59you're gonna love it it's a 70 step van oh cool it's all bs well here you go that's not it yeah
38:08stop bamma right now seriously
38:13well there you go that's not it yeah that's it one hour bamma you turn the corner and you see that
38:19this thing looks like it smacked a telephone pole going a hundred miles an hour is the motor still
38:24in there i'll tell them how great it is and when we walk around the fence stop bamma right now
38:29seriously i do that on purpose just to see their faces get that shock factor l60 exactly what you
38:36guys need look at that thing even yeah it's fine it seems like he's pushing it on us it just came in
38:42and everybody wants it not trying to hurry everybody wants it he knows something yeah he's he's not showing
38:48all his cards here i i'm scared to ask what happened because i don't know if the person made it i would
38:56not sell you a car that someone died you know what god so it's not haunted no it was a little old lady
39:03and she hit a tree she's fine well the airbag went off yeah yeah she hit it hard man but how do we know
39:12the bell housing isn't cracked the bell housing is not cracked man i don't know i mean there's areas
39:18you can't see from underneath it we got to take it back to the shop toss for me yeah that fan probably
39:24turns but that crank probably didn't turn that crank is fine i don't know about all that you've never
39:29even asked me how much well i'm we're getting to that the budget for this motor and trans was five grand
39:35but we are always looking to save the customer money how much how much uh i'm gonna tell you
39:41what oh god we've done so many deals they don't know what they're gonna get with me fifteen hundred
39:46dollars oh my gosh just like it sits bam it came in hot on this deal a fifteen hundred he was trying
39:53to get us out of here you got the trailer with the winch you don't even need to start it but it will run
39:59what kind of guarantees you say you promise how are you going to make that happen yeah that's a good
40:03question where is the trust have i ever let you down don't answer that okay he trusts us that it'll
40:11start but we don't trust him i'll make you a deal right now and then he just followed up with these
40:16other crazy ideas if you want to just take it and it runs then you pay me two grand when bama started
40:24to counter his own deal with his other deal if you take it and it don't run then i'll pay you
40:33one grand i was look i was confused i needed to repeat it like 12 more times dama brown just gave
40:39us a suburban with a 53 ls take it and go if i get in and turn the key and it doesn't start you give
40:45me a thousand bucks right but if it turns the key and it runs you give me two thousand or you can give
40:51me 1500 right now now this time see they were expecting me to be easy and i just i came in and
40:58confused them but you're saying if we have to call you and it doesn't run you are going to pay us i'll
41:02give you a thousand dollars oh wait wait so we don't pay today no you take it today oil you can
41:07pay we're going with the bammer risk oh that's a deal bammer brown that's a deal i got weak knees for a
41:12second that's a deal i love that enjoy it the minute they crank that engine i want y'all to have that camera
41:20on their face you get the trailer trailer and go baby well yeah even if it's 2000 we're still coming
41:26in three thousand dollars under budget we're going to get it back put a battery on it turn the key see
41:31what happens yeah i'll give you a call when we start this thing up so you can uh go get that cash trust
41:37me it's not gonna start easiest money i ever made right there
41:51shag and a man are on the way back with a suburban can't wait to see this thing
41:56boy in the hill look at this thing look at that thing we ain't fixing that are we
42:01i heard it's in questionable shape man look at this thing yeah look at it what's it for
42:07the whiskey truck oh the motor apparently it took a front hit well somebody t-boned a pole man i know
42:14it yep which can cause problems because you know vehicles moving pretty fast the motor's spinning
42:18you hit the front of the crank it can break the crank it can break the bell housing just go on down
42:23the you know the drivetrain well how's this thing sound oh he didn't start it up so where do we start
42:29with this it shows up and they didn't fire it up so i was a little concerned we made some janky deal
42:35with him where he's going to come out loser no matter what hopefully they didn't pay too much for
42:39it a janky deal with bama if it starts we owe him more money if it doesn't start and actually pay us to
42:45take it from him so i don't know 1500 would have been good to pay for it but i'm willing to take the
42:51chance to see if bam is wrong get your mechanic joe let's get zach let's get zach out here so we can
42:56start it and then uh see if bam i'm gonna stand over here and just call bam to bring my money it
43:02sounds to me like bam is pretty confident that it's gonna start and sounds good we gotta see if this
43:05thing will run brother so i think we left some money on the table get that bastard out brought zach
43:12out and kind of rewired it to get it to start what is it thousand bucks we get thousand bucks we get
43:17if it doesn't start one turn he said one turn i get the feeling we're getting ready to lose a lot
43:21of money is it hooked up it is give it a go give it a hell mike please don't start
43:28we're dead in a mackerel oh my gosh
