01:43The hardest part about tearing this Porsche down is going to be deciphering where the rust stops and starts.
01:49So all of this metal needs to just be repaired or replaced.
01:52Almost all the rust is cut out now, so just putting in new panels until there's a car again.
01:59It's gonna have all new floors, new rockers, inner and outer.

02:09It's like you're at the point where there's too many pieces of the puzzle that you have to fit.

03:57The metal fab on this Porsche was so precise.

04:20You gotta remember how this comes apart.
04:22It's been like 10 minutes in showbiz time since I worked on it, lad.

04:35So getting this little Porsche engine out, I mean, it's kind of a trick
04:38because the engine bay is really, like, closed in.
04:41You can't pull the core support or anything and have a bunch of space.
04:45But, you know, we've done it a million times before.
04:56Before it goes to paint, all the rest of the parts are labeled exactly so we know where everything goes when everything is shiny.
05:06So this is a pretty wild engine for this little Porsche.
05:16It's pretty wild because it's basically a big Porsche six-cylinder that has four-cylinder case and crankshaft.
05:25So it's a four-banger with all the late model six-cylinder double overhead cam kind of configuration.
05:35So way better heads on this thing than would have been original.
05:39We don't always have to put cars on rotisserie.
05:48This is a smaller size car.
05:50You can get to the whole top side of it.
05:52And we are doing more of a European rocker chutes on the bottom.
05:56So we don't need to flip the car per se.
05:58So we're going to go ahead and do the top and then we'll just do the bottom.
06:02And a cart works perfectly for this process.
06:11On the menu today is sushi, lobster, crab legs.
06:16And now we're going to paint a 59 Porsche.
06:25It's pretty straightforward except the bottom of the car not being on a rotisserie.
06:29Can't really rotate it, so we're going to have to do something fun and crawl around on the floor.

06:51Without being on the rotisserie, the car may be a little bit harder to paint, but my painter is top-notch and he can handle it.

07:16Painting on the stand is a little harder because you've got to actually crawl around
07:30on the floor to get the bottom of the car, where the rotisserie, you can do a whole shimmy
07:36of this angle, this angle, you could do a slight this way.

07:43And when you're spraying like this, the gun doesn't want to let the material out because
07:47it's too bad of an angle.
07:50Being on the car, it's not a big deal.
07:52It's actually a little helpful because you can get to the roof, you can do the whole car
07:55pretty easily.
07:56With the bottom of the car, you're going to have to get quite bendy.
08:07As soon as the sealer goes down, it reveals something.
08:09It reveals any flaws, any pinholes in it.
08:14We always have a couple pinholes, but we did discover a few on this one.
08:30I think you need to put another toilet seat on, try to bury someone.
08:37The sealer stage is the most important for pretty much the whole rest of the paint job.
08:42You have to make that sealer lay down really nice, it can't be dry, we've got to have even
08:47coverage over the whole car.
08:49And that's going to make the base lay down really well.
08:52And then on top of that, when you put your clear on it, it's not going to be as hard
08:55to put the application on.
08:59You have to put more sealer on it.

29:42You know, we've got to plan out where we're going to put a fuse box and stuff.
29:45The only difference is it's obviously an air-cooled engine,
29:47so we don't have coolant to create heat.
29:50So this car does use an electric heater,
29:52and we have to account for the amperage draw on that
29:54and make sure that the alternator is going to be able to
29:57not only power that heater at full blast,
29:59but it also has to cover all the other electronics in the car.
30:02So electric fuel pump, lights, and all that kind of stuff.
30:04So nothing too crazy, but we do have to account for some things.
30:08I'm working on getting panels on.
30:10We got the engine cover or the deck lid on it.
30:13I'm going to get the hood on it.
30:15I'm doing easy stuff.
30:17Throwing the deck lid on normally paint and body pin holes for us,
30:22so that gives us a really great starting point.
30:24So we set it on, throw the pins in, lock everything down,
30:27and then from there we make minute adjustments
30:30to get it to fit just right.
30:33The gaps are super even.
30:35This time, pretty rad.
30:37We put the pins in it, set everything up,
30:40go to go check our fitment, and it's perfect.
30:44That's never happened.
30:46Not while I've been here anyway,
30:47and I don't expect that to probably happen ever again.

30:55and kind of gives us a little bit more motivation.
