00:00On today's episode, Brian welds the fender.
00:05This car's seen a lot of abuse over the years.
00:07You got body panels doing weird stuff
00:09and lines not lining up.
00:10Put the choppy dew on it.
00:12What do you think, man?
00:13I love it, man.
00:14He's come back and he wants to put
00:15some more power to this thing.
00:19Damn, Zach.
00:20Damn.
00:21So one of the one things we've run into
00:23on this 36 Ford project is a lot of rot.
00:27You know, so it's very critical.
00:28So we brought Caleb in to help Brian
00:30speed the process up.
00:31So it's cool to see the brothers
00:32work together on a project.
00:35I felt almost like a gangster.
00:37Bonnie and Clyde!
00:39You know, it's always nerve-wracking
00:40when you present these cars to the customer.
00:42What do you think, Teresa?
00:44Oh, whoa.
00:46Yep.
00:47Aw, .
00:51I'm Joe Martin.
00:53I've been building cars and bikes
00:54since I was just a little kid.
00:56My team hunts down rusted wrecks.
00:59Are we going to work today, Joe, or what?
01:01We knock out the ugly and put in the cool.
01:05And turn these buckets of rust into street art.
01:10This is Iron Resurrection.
01:12We've been working on a pretty cool car lately.
01:21God!
01:23Oh, man.
01:24Look at this.
01:25It's a 36 Ford.
01:26And this Ford belongs to Teresa and Dave,
01:29which actually belonged to Teresa's father.
01:32So she wants to redo this car and she wants to do it right,
01:35add some custom modifications,
01:37get it down the road again.
01:39This car's seen a lot of abuse over the years.
01:41And we want to salvage that original sheet metal on there.
01:44So, I mean, literally you have to hand dolly that stuff.
01:47You have to planish everything.
01:48Little patch panels have to be made.
01:50And everything's got to be blended in.
01:52You know, we want minimal filler on there, minimal primer.
01:54And so Brian's just taking his time dollying everything as slick as he can.
01:58They have worked on the fenders, the firewall.
02:01There's a lot of work.
02:03Teresa and Dave came in.
02:05They sat in the car and got fitted and everything in the seats.
02:08And we realized that with her in the car comfortably,
02:11the seat's a little too close to the shifter.
02:14So we're going to get Zach to put a relocation kit on it and move it forward.
02:19He's the man for the job.
02:20Cool.
02:21Well, I'll probably get you to give me a hand pulling this transmission out
02:23and I'll get banging away at it.
02:24Sounds good.
02:25Cool.
02:29Oh, money.
02:30Oh, perfect.
02:31That'll do.
02:32My thought here.
02:33Uh-oh.
02:34You were thinking?
02:35Happens from time to time.
02:36Don't hurt yourself, man.
02:37Come down a little bit.
02:38We had Zach put in a shift relocation kit in this 36 Ford.
02:42Basically just relocates the shifter on the transmission.
02:45Just gets it a little closer for Teresa.
02:47Now all the way down.
02:53It's called teamwork.
03:03The interior on the 36 Ford, we've decided that we're going to have Kyler be the lead on that project.
03:08Teresa and David really want the interior to be a centerpiece to their car.
03:12They're going to park this car in their living room, so the pressure's really on Kyler to make sure he nails it.
03:18On the 36 Ford door panels, we're trying to get the skins roughed out.
03:22We've got the panel here and we're going to start cutting it out of the metal.
03:27So we got everything cut out of the metal.
03:48Got it fit.
03:49We're liking how it's looking.
03:51Going to go in here and trim it up and make sure it's nice and clean so when we wrap our leather, everything's nice and smooth.
04:02I have not worked on a 36 Ford before, so it is all very new to me.
04:07Usually I can pattern one side and flip it and everything's relatively symmetrical, which is not the case on this car.
04:15All right, let's see what we're working with here.
04:22That's actually pretty much the same height, too.
04:24Yeah, it's not too bad.
04:25Man, I'm going to do eight and a half or nine inches.
04:29That sounds great.
04:31Right on, I'll hop in the car and mark it up and start chopping it out.
04:35So, you know, if you've got a smaller cockpit like you do in the 36 Ford, you know, everything's going to be moved forward.
04:40The shifter's going to be a little more forward.
04:42Hey, man, you got the hull cut out?
05:10Yeah.
05:11Let's slam it in there.
05:12Cool.
05:13That's a nice hull you cut there, Brian.
05:14Thanks.
05:18You want to go up there and look at that and see me, see if you like it?
05:21I can trim it out without hitting that trans.
05:24That'll be fine.
05:25Okay, yeah, I can trim like another half inch out of there.
05:29Our seat's all the way forward right now, and the old shifter was right here.
05:33So it was just a little too close to the frame.
05:35You had to notch out your foam work and all that on the seat to make the shifter work properly.
05:43While the trans was out, I made just a rough measurement of the kind of hole that I needed.
05:47I didn't want to cut a giant hole.
05:49It's a little tight, so I can make the little adjustments now that it's installed and get a little more clearance up here in the front.
05:57This lower piece here, we've got some rod in it.
06:25And it tapers up compared to the way the running board is.
06:31So I'm going to cut it all off and make it longer.
06:34Well, it's definitely important to get the lines straight on the car.
06:37And, you know, especially with a darker color, you know, you want the body lines from panel to panel to line up really nice.
06:42And the light, you know, you don't want any distortion or waviness.
06:45This is a pretty important piece just for the overall look of the car,
06:48because that's one of the first things you notice when you walk up to it is the angle of the running board
06:53and how it doesn't match the angle of the fender, so we're going to fix that.
06:57Lines will definitely affect how you see the car's stance.
07:00You know, you're looking back at it and you've got body panels doing weird stuff and lines not lining up.
07:04People look at it and it just goes to show that, you know, the quality of the metal work and the paint job, you know, wasn't on par.
07:10This piece is a little bit bigger than some of the patch panels I've had to make.
07:16I have a template from the other side.
07:18I should be able to use it just flipping it over, so it should go pretty easy.
07:22Definitely an art form, you know, blending the new metal with the old metal.
07:25You know, especially after you sandblast it, the metal's going to be thin, it's going to be deteriorated a little bit.
07:30But we want to salvage the stock stuff the best we can because it's going to have the best fitment.
07:34So it's definitely an art form.
07:36The only thing I got to watch out for is the line that's coming off of my running board to the end of my fender.
07:53It just needs to be a nice straight line.
07:57I'm going to cut the excess piece that I have here, put the choppy dew on it.
08:01Well, that wasn't tight enough.
08:06The goal is definitely to make it look like one piece.
08:09We want it to be fluid, we want it to flow together, we want it to look like it with one piece in the end.
08:13All right, that's looking pretty good.
08:25We'll start tacking it in.
08:39I'm just trying to grow up and be like Caleb.
08:48On today's episode, Bryan welds the fender.
08:55On today's episode, Bryan welds the fender.
09:16What's going on, Bryan?
09:17How's it going?
09:18Man, I see you got your new grill, man.
09:19Yeah.
09:20So Bryan just got the 36 Ford grill in, a replacement.
09:22So I'm going to go ahead and check it out, see how this thing looks.
09:24Damn, dude.
09:26That thing's in killer shape, man.
09:27Yeah, it is.
09:28Come on.
09:33It's a slight improvement.
09:34I bet that thing could tell some stories right there, man.
09:36Oh, yeah.
09:37All right, now that Bryan's got the grill finished up in this 36 Ford.
09:40That looks better already, Bryan.
09:42Oh, dude, that's cool, everyone.
09:44That's cool, man.
09:45Move on to finish the spenders, get them all gapped up, then move on to the hood size.
09:49Man, looks good, Bryan.
09:50Looks good.
09:51It's coming along good, brother.
10:09I'm on the 36 Ford here.
10:11We're going to be turning these small little grill openings down here into blinkers.
10:15So I got to fab up a blinker bucket and get it all welded in.
10:20Originally, these things didn't have blinkers, of course.
10:23So they make headlights with blinker rings in them, and we don't want those on this car.
10:28It's just not going to fit the style of it.
10:30So I'm turning the bottom of the fenders into a blinker.
10:35First, I got the blinker buckets in, and I had to chop off where the lens and stuff would actually mount to it.
10:43Because I'm not going to be needing that.
10:45I got to make one that fits inside this fender.
10:47So I'll start off by making a base plate to it that will mount the lens and everything inside the bucket again.
10:56And then I will build off of that to make it fit inside this opening here.
11:00One of the modifications Brian came up with on this car is really cool is below the headlight buckets where there's these little grills.
11:08Sweet.
11:09Brian actually came up with a really cool idea to put the turn signals behind here.
11:13He's going to put little LEDs, keep the original look, but turn them into turn signals. Very cool.
11:18It looks pretty good so far.
11:27One thing I got to make sure is none of it moves around, and I'm just kind of eyeballing it from having a lens in it and then taking it out.
11:39Not too shabby.
11:48All right, we got to get this whisty-doo on it.
12:18I am starting on my inner fender panels for the 36 Ford.
12:23I will be taking this original inner fender panel here
12:26and cutting the majority of this front section out.
12:30That way I can make a new panel that's going to go around our new suspension parts.
12:35One of the cool things Brian's working on is the inner fender,
12:37and it's got to accommodate this register shop frame.
12:39You know, so it's very critical.
12:41I need to cut it because the original frame was just straight,
12:45and the whole entire front suspension was a completely different setup.
12:49Now we have an independent front suspension,
12:51so you've got an upper control arm and a shock tower that you've got to have clearance for.
12:55So I just need to cut it out and kind of modify it and make it work.
13:01Trying to fit the frame, but you're trying to keep water and stuff from getting the engine bay,
13:06and at the same time you're trying to ventilate it to get heat out.
13:09So there's a lot of engineering that goes in something like that.
13:16Nailed it!
13:17Nailed it!
13:34Alright!
13:37Now we're getting close.
13:45Now that I've got my inner fender panel all fitting pretty good,
13:52I'm going to click-o it in place,
13:54and then I'll weld it after that and move on to my hood.
14:07Inner fenders are done.
14:09So one of the one things we've run into on this 36 Ford project is a lot of rot,
14:22and one of the things that's got a lot of rust is this rumble seat lid or deck lid,
14:27but as you can see, it's all rotted out. Basically the whole bottom's gone.
14:32So what we're going to do now, Caleb's got to basically recreate everything here,
14:35so we have to make it by hand basically. You know, a lot of people we've seen before,
14:39they just actually weld it and make it one smooth panel,
14:42but Teresa and David, they actually want to have the rumble seat functional and open.
14:47They want to carry their grandkids in this car.
14:49You know, we're going to attach the upholstery to it and everything.
14:51Everything's got to be functioning right. It's got to gap this right.
14:53It's kind of tricky when you've got to make everything by hand, man.
14:55Yeah.
14:56But that's pretty killer right there, Kato.
14:58So I'm just putting it together like a big puzzle.
15:00Yeah.
15:01But I've got to make the pieces.
15:02You've got to make the pieces too.
15:03I've got to make the pieces too.
15:04I'm kind of making the framework, and I'm just going to piece it together,
15:10little piece by little piece.
15:13My plan is to get it fully functioning, latching, opening, all that stuff,
15:17and then I'll be able to just put the outer skin on it, and it should be good.
15:21So we brought Caleb in to help Brian speed the process up on this car.
15:24Caleb was here first. Caleb's been here about, I don't know, six years now.
15:27And then we brought Brian in a couple years.
15:29So it's cool to see the brothers work together on a project.
15:32I got the framework for the rumble seat kind of tacked together,
15:35and I got it opening and closing.
15:37So now I just need to fill in the middle part.
15:41So it's kind of a lot going on, so I'm just going to take my time,
15:44make sure I don't have to make more than one of these.
15:48I have to curve it.
15:51And I got a couple of dimple dies and bead work I got to do in it.
16:06So I got my middle piece fabbed up the way I wanted.
16:16I just got it Clicoed in place.
16:18And then once that's done, I got a little bit of welding left.
16:24So this here needs to sit somewhere right around here.
16:38Oh, I see.
16:40We're going to get rid of the butterfly effect of the hood,
16:43where you open the hood, the hood sides come up.
16:46We want to eliminate that because it's hard to operate that stuff
16:48without scratching the paint since they have a really nice paint job.
16:51And just to make all that stuff function,
16:52it's just going to be hard on the paint.
16:54So we've got a lot of modifications to rebuild that hood
16:57and install this new kit.
16:59Normally these hoods and the hood side are pinned together.
17:02So if you want to open it up,
17:04you release the latch on the bottom side of it,
17:07and you pull all of it up together.
17:09And now we're not going to have any of that.
17:12It's just the hood side that's going to come up,
17:15just the top side of it.
17:16This will be just on the inside of this.
17:18I see.
17:19The first thing I'll need to do is,
17:21I got our hood hinge kit.
17:23I'll need to make my panel that fits to that,
17:27and that way I can test my in and out fitment of that bar.
17:31All right.
17:41That bar is really critical
17:42because that's what's going to mount the hood side,
17:44and in general it's going to put in place our panel fitment.
17:49So I got to really nail that.
18:02A few years ago,
18:03Mike and Heather brought their 67 Chevelle in here.
18:04Oh man, look at this.
18:05Look at this.
18:06We're here today.
18:07We dropped off a 67 Chevelle that I've had for a long time
18:09to have Joe Martin do his touch to it.
18:11We did a lot of modifications to this car.
18:13Had a rooster shop frame already,
18:14but we did floors, firewall,
18:16a lot of body modifications.
18:18After the car was painted,
18:19the guys put in a really trick new interior.
18:22Oh, good fun car.
18:24B700 works power.
18:25Pure joy.
18:26Pure joy.
18:27What do you think, man?
18:28I love it, man.
18:29It's really loud.
18:30It's loud.
18:31The way it's supposed to be.
18:32Mike's definitely one of my favorite types of customers.
18:35He's a gear head.
18:36He loves cars
18:37and he wants to get the most horsepower out of his vehicle as he can.
18:40Beautiful.
18:41After all the work that's been done on this Chevelle,
18:43he's come back and he wants to put some more power to this thing.
18:46So we're going to do some more mods,
18:47see how much horsepower we can get.
18:54What you doing, man? Doing some sketching?
18:55Hey, how's it going, man?
18:56Got some door panel renders coming for us.
18:58Nice, man.
18:59Armrest designs, different pleats, all that good stuff.
19:03Kyler's going to take over the lead on Teresa and David's 36 Ford
19:06on the design and everything.
19:08So I think we're going to use foam mostly.
19:10Got my feedback from Teresa and David.
19:12At the same time, they said, you know,
19:13they want to leave it in our hands.
19:14Leather and metal.
19:16Hey, man.
19:17Leather and metal, dude.
19:18Mike, we like it.
19:19Leather and metal, man.
19:21Kyler been out with some really cool stuff
19:22and I think it's going to come out great.
19:24I think we've got a pretty good plan.
19:25You're talking about putting that, doing the French seam
19:28for...
19:29Yep.
19:30So we'd have an actual panel
19:31and then our French seams would be right there.
19:32Dude, that's killer, man.
19:33And then we'd have a nice little border
19:35to kind of come on top of it.
19:36Oh, yeah.
19:37It's got that little different texture there and stuff.
19:40Right.
19:41So my thought is this armrest is laying about right here.
19:44Aw, man.
19:45And we're going to extend it into those quarter panels.
19:47Yep.
19:48That looks killer color.
19:49They're going to dig it, man.
19:51One of the requests of David was he wanted an armrest.
19:56This is a 36 Ford, you know?
19:58I mean, they're kind of narrow.
20:00Dave's a big guy.
20:01Teresa's a little.
20:02And you can't offset it.
20:03Speaking of the seats, man, we need to figure that out, huh?
20:05Yeah.
20:07And you remember they were hell bent on that damn armrest, man.
20:10That armrest, yeah.
20:11That was one of their requests.
20:12I know.
20:13We're looking at least right here for an armrest.
20:15Yeah.
20:16And that's going to make all that kind of crazy.
20:19Yeah.
20:20You know, we're pretty scrunched up.
20:21So I don't know how much room there would be, actually,
20:23when two people are in the seat.
20:24We sat in the car.
20:25And then, also, we have standard shift in there.
20:27And the shifter comes back.
20:28And then, you know, your elbow would be hitting the armrest.
20:31Like what the dealer is.
20:32That makes sense, because, yeah, especially if the shifter's,
20:34if your arm's constantly hitting it, trying to work the shifter.
20:36Because they definitely, yeah, if it's not going to work,
20:38then it's not going to work.
20:39Right.
20:40I almost need to stretch that a little bit, probably,
20:51to get this down.
20:53So now Brian and his brother, K-Dub,
20:54are working on this 36-4 together.
20:56Teresa and Dave are showing up soon to check out this car.
20:58And the car's got to look very presentable,
21:00you know, even without paint on it.
21:02So we want all the lines squared away.
21:04We want everything looking good, fitting nice.
21:06And, you know, it's got to fit really well.
21:08We got the skin in for the deck lid on the 36.
21:12Right now, I'm just going to make sure it fits how it needs to be.
21:16Because right now, I'm too high here.
21:19So I need to stretch this.
21:25Let's see.
21:33Ah, we're close.
21:38Well, right now, I'm just going to get this Clicote in place,
21:42make sure it fits the car,
21:44and then I'll tweak my inner piece,
21:46whatever I need to do to that to make it fit this.
21:52I made my piece a little bit too tall,
21:54so I'm going to have to come in and do a little adjusting.
21:56Like a glove.
21:58So on the 36 Ford, I'm working on the driver's side of the hood.
22:02I got my panel all welded in and metal finished,
22:06and all the bracing mounted.
22:08So now I just need to work on my final gap to the back edge of the hood and the cowl.
22:14I need to make a double-edged panel and get it all fitting and welded in.
22:16So now I just need to work on my final gap to the back edge of the hood and the cowl.
22:20I need to make a double-edged panel and get it all fitting and welded in.
22:24So now I just need to work on my final gap to the back edge of the hood and the cowl.
22:36I need to make a double-edged panel and get it all fitting and welded in.
22:54Let's see what it looks like.
23:09Let's see if I can get it to latch.
23:20So Brian's wrapped up the work on this 36 Ford hood,
23:23so I'm gonna go check it out.
23:25Damn, Brian, you got this thing looking good, man.
23:27Yeah, just finished up on it.
23:29That's pretty sharp, man.
23:30Teresa and David wanted to eliminate the hood doing kind of like the butterfly effect,
23:34where the side panels come up because once you paint the car really nice,
23:37you tend to see the scratch around the hinges, you scratch the cowl where the hood sits.
23:41So we eliminated all that.
23:43That makes a hell of a difference, man, having to deal with that whole side panel stuff.
23:46Mm-hmm.
23:47And that's awesome, man.
23:48It was a lot of work.
23:49I'll tell you that much.
23:50That was some work.
23:51It shuts down there and that threads the needle through there, huh, kind of?
23:54Yeah, you just gotta push it in a little bit.
23:57That's cool, man.
24:00Damn, dude.
24:01That's latched.
24:02That's slick, man.
24:04Brian did a great job.
24:05It's a lot of work involved.
24:07A lot of re-engineering, make everything work really flawlessly.
24:10And Brian did a killer job on it.
24:12His metalworking skills are really coming together.
24:15And it looks great.
24:17I'm working on the patterning for Teresa's 36 Ford.
24:25So Joe and I got some loose renders on a paper.
24:28We got some lines drawn on the seat.
24:30Now I'm gonna go ahead and start patterning.
24:32Patterning starts with plastic.
24:35After we draw the lines, we lay our clear plastic on top of it.
24:38And then we transfer our lines to the plastic, essentially.
24:41And then we can take that to our leather.
24:44Cut it out at our seams and we're good to go.
24:47So we're using a Morton Giles Distress Leather.
24:57The client really liked the kind of two-tone, earthy tones to it.
25:01So that's what we're gonna use.
25:05It's a nice leather.
25:06It lends well to kind of all sorts of different designs.
25:10So I think it's gonna look good, especially with the paint job we're going with.
25:14So we're gonna be doing pleats and double stitches on there for the center insert.
25:19And then as far as the borders and the boxing, we're gonna keep them just plain.
25:24So we can add dimension to the seat.
25:35So one of the tricky parts on the seat is the split back.
25:38We're trying to make it look like one solid piece.
25:42So we're trying to play around with that.
25:44That's gonna be the hardest hurdle of this seat for sure.
25:53This is the engine here for Heather and Mike's 67 Chevelle.
25:56So they really wanted to push a little bit more boost through this motor.
25:59And the way these things come from the factory, they got a little bit too much compression for that.
26:03So I went ahead and tore this thing down, put in a forged rotating assembly,
26:06and new pistons that are gonna lower the compression ratio down so we can run a lot more boost through it.
26:14Zach's got everything rebuilt. We got everything repainted.
26:16Sitting here on the engine stand, we're gonna put it in the car.
26:18Hopefully get it in, bolt it in, and put it on the dyno and see what it does.
26:21That little chain good or no?
26:26Hmm, let's go one less.
26:27Hold on, we're gonna make a slight adjustment.
26:32Well, I'm just saying, that little chain, that thing makes me nervous.
26:37I started the machine, boys. That's time to go.
26:40You're clear, Mike.
26:41Yeah, Dave's bringing the fender covers in, Joe.
26:48Here you go, Joe.
26:52Y'all hold on to it, that thing wants to rock.
26:55All right, you can start coming down.
26:56Down?
26:57Come down.
27:00I'm gonna set it right in place, you watch.
27:04Keep coming down, Mike.
27:06Now stop there.
27:07You have to go in a little bit.
27:09All right, here we go.
27:10Watch your coils over there.
27:13Okay, stop there and come down.
27:15All right.
27:16We're still high.
27:17Yeah, I'm hung up or something.
27:19Yeah, hold up there.
27:20It's like it's sitting on something.
27:21You got something on your side there, Dave.
27:25Oh, your bolt's not in.
27:28Your bolt's below the mount.
27:30We're gonna have to go back up, Mike.
27:33We need to raise it up?
27:34Yeah, go up a little bit, Mike.
27:37Whoa, sorry about that.
27:38Get ready.
27:40Yeah.
27:41Oh, .
27:46All right, here we go.
27:49All right, there you go, there you go.
27:51No, hold on, there it is, okay.
27:52Nope, nope, right there.
27:57All right, it's in the front.
27:59Is it in?
28:00Yeah, it's in, Mike.
28:01Go ahead and lower it down.
28:02Whoa, whoa, whoa.
28:03Yeah, I think the straps are kind of holding the motor like this originally.
28:05Towards that.
28:06Okay.
28:10Is that it?
28:11Oh, you got it?
28:12Go ahead and lower it down a little bit.
28:15All righty.
28:16I call that success.
28:17So we got the engine in Mike and Heather Chevelle, and it was a success.
28:22We didn't scratch anything.
28:23Everything went in pretty good.
28:24We had a little, we're fighting the motor mount a little bit, but there's a lot of accessories
28:26still on the motor, so it's kind of hard to get to the motor mount bolts and stuff.
28:29But it went in, didn't scratch anything, and now Zach can have at it.
28:33He can put the exhaust on it, put the transmission in it, and hopefully get it on the dyno and
28:38see if we can make some horsepower.
28:45On the 36 Ford, I finally got the deck lid all finished up.
28:51Got all my pieces I needed.
28:53I got it fitting how I liked.
28:55So, now it's finished.
29:04Bring it all back.
29:07Now that the engine's in, it's time for the dyno.
29:12Dyno's the best part of any build.
29:13I mean, you get to make a lot of noise.
29:14Right there.
29:15Hear some good power out of it.
29:16Good day all around.
29:33All right, so we just got a first little baby pole in the dyno.
29:47That was pretty good.
29:4811.5.
29:49Oh, it went rich, so we're safe.
29:51That pole showed it's pretty good, so now it's time to do a real pole.
29:54About 20 foot-pounds of torque, so solid move.
30:13A little bit more tweaking left, but we should make some more power.
30:19What's going on, guys?
30:20How's this thing sounding, brother?
30:21Oh, this is mean.
30:22You got some more poles left in you, man, Zach?
30:24I think we can do one more.
30:25Right on, brother.
30:26I'm going to get fired up for you.
30:27Yeah, I'd like to hear this thing, man.
30:28Zach, you got the white Chevelle going?
30:31Man, that's straight badass right now.
30:32I don't know what it was making before, but right now it's making plenty.
30:35Damn, Zach.
30:36Damn.
30:37Sounded good, man.
30:38What did it do, Zach?
30:39What did it do?
30:40So I started the day with 440 horsepower.
30:41Wow.
30:42Guess what that last pole was.
30:43That's going to be a lot better, Joe, because Zach's been grinning since we got here.
30:44I'm going to say 580.
30:45690.
30:46690.
30:47Damn.
30:48690.
30:49690.
30:50690 horsepower.
30:51690 horsepower.
30:52690 horsepower.
30:53Wow.
30:54That's going to be a lot better, Joe, because Zach's been grinning since we got here.
30:57I'm going to say 580.
30:58690.
30:59Damn.
31:00690.
31:01690 horse, 690 foot pounds.
31:02Zach said the car's making 690 to the wheels.
31:04Man, that thing gave me goosebumps all over, Joe.
31:05That gave me goosebumps right there.
31:06Yeah.
31:07Yeah.
31:08Damn.
31:09That's too cold.
31:10Yeah, that's good power for a streetcar.
31:11Careful driving this way.
31:12I know, man.
31:13I know.
31:14I know.
31:15I know.
31:16I know.
31:17I know.
31:18I know.
31:19I know.
31:20I know.
31:21I know.
31:22I know.
31:23I know.
31:24I know.
31:25I know.
31:26I know, man.
31:27Better point it straight.
31:28Point it straight.
31:29Yeah.
31:30Damn.
31:31Good work, Zach.
31:32Thanks, Joe.
31:33Yeah, I think Mike's going to be really excited about the car.
31:34200 more horsepower.
31:35He's going to have fun driving it.
31:36He better hold on.
31:37It's going to be a whole different car when he steps on the gas now.
31:40I mean, you know, they better both buckle up.
31:45The car's come a long way.
31:47Dude, it's side paneling for your house.
31:50They got the shiplap in there.
31:53Look at that.
31:55Yeah.
31:56There wasn't much left of it, so it is cool to see it on the ground and almost to its finished
32:02date.
32:03A lot of the Ford was in bare metal, and we needed to get that covered.
32:07So we thought, might as well put a sealer coat on it so it doesn't have any more rust
32:11issues.
32:12Keep the moisture off of it.
32:16Brian's come a long way very quickly.
32:19From apprentice to just a paint helper, to now he's pretty much a master fab guy.
32:23It's only been here three or four years.
32:24I mean, this guy's made leaps and gains.
32:26I got everything primed on the 36 Ford.
32:30Now I'm just going to put all the body panels back on it and let the interior guys finish
32:34their stuff.
32:35There we go.
32:36Here we go.
32:37I wanted Theresa and David to see it kind of all in one color against the interior.
32:41So we got the interior color figured out.
32:43So hopefully they'll see it, get inspired to choose a color.
32:47But I think being all one solid color, even though it's primer, it's going to give them
32:50a better vision.
32:54Collar and the guys have been working for months to put together a really custom interior
33:00for the 36 Ford.
33:02Theresa and Dave want something really special.
33:05They want people to be able to see this car in their living room.
33:08So we'll all be holding our breaths when they sit on this interior for the very first
33:12time.
33:13Joe's about to come in.
33:15He hasn't seen it since I've primed everything, so we'll see what he thinks about it.
33:18Damn, Brian.
33:19It's all one color now.
33:21Yeah, it's looking a little better.
33:23Man, that's killer.
33:24Yeah.
33:25They're going to dig it.
33:26I hope so.
33:27I hope so.
33:28Yeah.
33:29Yeah.
33:30That metal work came out killer on it.
33:31It's crazy, man.
33:32If you think about it when it came in.
33:33What a transformation.
33:34Oh, my God, dude.
33:35It was...
33:36This thing was rough, man.
33:37House carpet everywhere.
33:39This thing was in bad shape.
33:40But it is a 36 Ford, and it was definitely worth saving.
33:44So this is Brian's first solo gig.
33:46It's a 36 Ford, and it wasn't going to be an easy gig.
33:48It was a lot of metal work.
33:50Rust repair, with the help of Caleb, did a killer job.
33:53That's the most fun you had all day, huh, Caleb?
33:55No.
33:57That's...
33:58That's pretty close.
33:59Pretty much on there.
34:00All right.
34:01On to the other side.
34:04Down a little bit.
34:06Right there.
34:07The door's open and shut just like brand new.
34:10Dude, what'd I tell you?
34:11One and done.
34:12One and done, son.
34:13Brian also re-engineered the hood opening.
34:15Works great.
34:16Caleb had to totally rebuild the whole level seat door.
34:19That went on way too easy.
34:22Yeah.
34:23Watch your fingers.
34:24I got all the main body parts, doors, deck lid, all that stuff mounted up thanks to Caleb.
34:36Now I just got to go through and do all the little stuff, door handles, trim, and get it all ready to reveal to the customers.
34:44We're going to present the car to them basically just to kind of showcase the interior.
34:48So get all that in there where they can see it.
34:50And then now the car's, you know, in at least one color.
34:52I think it's going to be more presentable to them.
34:54Hopefully they'll be excited.
34:55Oh, this is going to be my favorite part.
34:57What's up, guys?
34:58Hey.
34:59How are ya?
35:00Hi.
35:01Teresa and Dave are coming in today.
35:02They're going to check on the car.
35:03Hi.
35:04Good.
35:05Good to see you.
35:06We're excited for you guys to see this car.
35:07I'm ready.
35:08I'm excited.
35:09Oh, look at those wheels.
35:10Damn, we got the whole crew here.
35:11Yes, we do.
35:12Yeah.
35:13Man, the whole crew is in here.
35:14Hey.
35:15Hey.
35:16That was exciting.
35:17I want to see the interior.
35:20I think it'll be really above and beyond.
35:22That's what we ask, above and beyond.
35:24You know, it's always nerve wracking when you present these cars to the customer and then this one's not finished.
35:31I want to see the interior.
35:32I think it'll be really above and beyond.
35:35That's what we asked, above and beyond.
35:38You know, it's always nerve-wracking
35:39when you present these cars to the customer,
35:41and then this one's not finished.
35:44Everybody?
35:44What do you think?
35:45Wow.
35:46What do you think, Teresa?
35:53I like it.
35:55All mine.
35:56The bottom of the running board and the fenders
35:58are all lined up.
35:59That really makes it look different.
36:00Yeah.
36:01You know about the last original piece on this car?
36:04It's the windshield.
36:05The windshield?
36:07We were pretty excited about this car,
36:08but when we saw it, we realized it needed a lot of work.
36:11And, you know, obviously we wanted to salvage
36:12as much of the original metal.
36:13Yes.
36:14So the guys pretty much made everything by hand.
36:16Since the last time we've seen it,
36:17even though it's just in one color, it's real.
36:20I know it.
36:21I know it.
36:22Yeah, we can't wait to get some color on this thing.
36:24It has come a long way.
36:26A long, long ways.
36:27Ooh.
36:29Man.
36:30It was rough, but amazingly it was in one piece.
36:32It was rusty.
36:34It had an inch of dust on it.
36:36It had a dead mouse carcass in it.
36:38It did, didn't it?
36:39Yes.
36:40Man, mummified.
36:41Man.
36:42Got a glove?
36:43It had truck tires on it with the old kind
36:47you used to drive on the ice.
36:49It was a mess.
36:52But work on the hood's cool.
36:53Yeah, it's amazing.
36:54One of the modifications Dave wanted to do to this car was
36:57to eliminate the sides of the hood coming up
36:59butterflying like stock style.
37:01I took the windshield crane.
37:02I made it part of the release rod.
37:05So you just pull it.
37:06Oh, that's cool.
37:08And then we got the prop rod.
37:11That's cool.
37:11He used the original little bar that supported the little support.
37:15Yeah, I see that.
37:16That's pretty cool.
37:17The way everything lines up, it's just crazy.
37:20I had to come in here and cut all these and re-weld them back together.
37:23No, you couldn't do it.
37:25All this stuff down here, Brian kind of handmade all that stuff,
37:27recreated all that.
37:28We noticed that the body lines were really inconsistent.
37:31So I made a pull max die and then I just remade all the body lines.
37:35Because there was a lot of rot.
37:36And this is all even on the bottom.
37:40That was like hot.
37:41So Brian straightened all this stuff out right here.
37:42This stuff was all out of alignment.
37:44Yeah, if you guys remember too, how bad that inner structure was rotted out.
37:47Mm-hmm.
37:48Yes.
37:49You'll like the interior.
37:50Oh, yeah.
37:51Look at that, man.
37:54So all that stuff's handmade.
37:55Caleb went in there and pretty much had to recreate it.
37:57Wow.
37:59Wow.
38:03You think your dad would be happy?
38:04So, I think so.
38:05No.
38:06I think so.
38:07No doubt.
38:08The interior was one of the things, too, we wanted him to see.
38:10Check it out, the color of it, sit in it, get a feel for it.
38:13Hopefully they approve and it'll inspire him to pick a body color.
38:17Wow, look at the carpet.
38:19That is pretty.
38:20Isn't that killer?
38:20Isn't that killer?
38:21See the headliner in there, Teresa?
38:22Yeah, so it's kind of a little different materials, kind of contrast a little bit.
38:25Mm-hmm.
38:26Wow, it's so soft.
38:27The roof is carpet.
38:29Oh, wow.
38:30Oh.
38:31Oh.
38:36Yeah, and the interior in it now, the headliner and the dash, it's just amazing.
38:42Unreal.
38:43I love it.
38:44So can I sit in it?
38:45Jump on in, yeah.
38:46All right.
38:47Both of y'all.
38:48Ooh.
38:49Teresa got in the driver's side, so we know who's going to be driving.
38:52Look at the leather down here.
38:54Oh, yeah.
38:55That's cool.
38:56Yeah, and it cool in between the...
38:57That is amazing.
38:58It's so modern, but it looks so timely.
39:01Mm-hmm.
39:02Is that the right words to use?
39:03The carpet and stuff.
39:04It's just all brand new, modern, air-conditioned, everything, but it looks like...
39:081936.
39:09It still looks like 1936.
39:11They've done a killer job of doing that.
39:13Oh, yeah.
39:14I feel almost like a gangster.
39:15I know it, man.
39:16But you know what?
39:17It's comfortable in here.
39:18It still looks vintage.
39:19I like the steering wheel, too.
39:20The steering wheel's...
39:21Yeah.
39:22Looks awesome.
39:23Yes.
39:24All the moderns kind of hid away, you know?
39:25When you open the door, and just what chrome's in here just jumps out and looks at you.
39:29Yes.
39:30Yeah.
39:31We're just ready to get some color on this thing.
39:35Very good job, young man.
39:38I sure have had a lot of fun building it.
39:41You know, it's hard to kind of visualize this stuff.
39:45I like it.
39:46We're just glad you wanted to save the car, because I know it's...
39:48Yeah.
39:49You know?
39:50Yeah.
39:51It's got a special place in your heart, family heirloom.
39:52My dad, he'd really like it.
39:55I'm kind of leaning towards the blue.
39:57Well, I think this one's going to look good in your collection.
39:59Yes.
40:00This one's going to go in the...
40:01It's going in the living room?
40:02In the living room.
40:03We got a spot picked out right in front of the windows in the front room.
40:07You can drive right in there.
40:08We just imagine it's sitting there.
40:10So when eating breakfast, we can just look over at it.
40:13I'm super stoked to be a part of this build.
40:17It's really a rewarding feeling being a part of something and bringing it back to life
40:21and letting them enjoy it all over again.
40:24We know how much the car means to you guys.
40:27And then after we work on it for so long, it starts meaning a lot to us.
40:30Yeah.
40:31Because we get attached to these cars.
40:32And so it's just cool that you saved it.
40:34Yeah.
40:35Hopefully your dad will approve.
40:36I...
40:37Oh yeah.
40:38Oh yeah.
40:39I like seeing the car restored because nobody ever saw it.
40:44Well, it's going to be in my living room, but I'm going to drive it and people will see it.
40:50I just wanted it on the road where people can see it and people can enjoy it.
40:55How are you guys?
40:56Doing wonderful.
40:57How are y'all?
40:58Ready to get the car back again?
40:59I'm ready.
41:00I am super excited.
41:01This thing makes a considerable amount of power now.
41:02My manic office, my wife Heather.
41:03We're here today.
41:04We had dropped off our 67 Chevelle.
41:05But it has some motor work done on it.
41:06Look at it!
41:07Holy smokes.
41:08Look at that.
41:09It's been probably nine months or so, so yeah, I'm really excited.
41:17Hadn't had a chance to hear it run or anything, so I'm really excited about this.
41:26That thing's ready to go to battle.
41:31That thing's ready to go to battle.
41:38Zach's the one.
41:39He did the motor.
41:40Good job, Zach.
41:41Good job, Zach.
41:42He engineered everything.
41:44So I know you wanted more power with it.
41:45Not much cosmetic difference, but there's a whole lot going on underneath it.
41:48It's all in the inside.
41:52Wow.
41:53Yeah, it was fast before, but it's fast now.
41:56When I originally designed the car, the car's going to be naturally aspirated.
41:59We added the supercharger, and the parts really never jobbed with each other.
42:03So the car was underpowered and everything, so we decided to go into the engine and really design it for the supercharger.
42:10The supercharger just looks mean up there.
42:11I know, dude.
42:12It's badass, man.
42:13Fills it up.
42:14It does.
42:14It does, man.
42:16That's an engine bay full of happiness right there.
42:18It sure is.
42:20It's my baby.
42:22My dad is big into Chevelle's.
42:24He got me into Chevelle's, so it runs through my veins.
42:29This is my baby.
42:33Yeah, Zach said he had it on the dyno.
42:36By third gear, he had it 110 miles an hour by third gear.
42:40That's crazy, man.
42:43My whole goal here was to get 600 rear wheel horsepower, and we exceeded that.
42:50Yeah, this car's phenomenal.
42:51It drives like a dream.
42:53It's a roaster shop chassis.
42:54It's just really tight and responsive, and then with the extra horsepower, the car is phenomenal.
43:01It's time to clean my mess now.
43:03You want to help, Jamie?
43:07Your brother drove it to school there a little bit.
43:10He would have graduated in 84.
43:12I was born in 97.
43:13Damn.
43:16Damn.
43:17The man that built the car was built in 97.
43:19He was built in 97.
43:21That, we're just going to add a whole other light inside of here.
43:25And there's the air compressor.
43:29Wild noises.
43:30Wild noises.
43:31Wild noises.
