00:00So what Joe's fixing to do here is a work of art.
00:02I just stand back and watch.
00:05All these obstacles in our way.
00:07The party's not over with yet.
00:09Yeah, go slow.
00:09You'll be taking me to the hospital in this thing.
00:11All right, slow and easy.
00:13Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:14This thing was just a hunk of crap,
00:17and I'm actually starting to like it.
00:19Stand back and look at it.
00:20It's kind of almost comical, really.
00:21I mean, looking at that thing and what it used to be.
00:23Man, that's cool.
00:25It's badass now.
00:26They should be here any minute.
00:28American Badass Whiskey Boy.
00:30Yee-haw.
00:31You know, I'm always excited and nervous
00:33about revealing these things.
00:35Today's the day.
00:35Oh, I know, I know.
00:36I trust Joe for sure, but God, it's scary, you know?
00:39He doesn't want to look yet.
00:41Because what if it's not the vision?
00:43Oh, man.
00:44Wow, look at the ball.
00:46This is what the definition of badass is.
00:50Woo!
00:54I'm Joe Martin.
00:55I've been building cars and bikes
00:57since I was just a little kid.
00:59My team hunts down rusted wrecks.
01:02Are we going to work today, Joe, or what?
01:03We knock out the ugly and put in the cool
01:08and turn these buckets of rust into street art.
01:12This is Iron Resurrection.
01:17Joe.
01:18What's up, brother?
01:19So Ron wants to do a whiskey van.
01:22Let's do it.
01:23Is that?
01:23This is it.
01:24It's a 1970 ice cream truck.
01:27Whoa, whoa.
01:28It's a whiskey truck.
01:29It's about to be a whiskey truck.
01:30That thing's got a face like SpongeBob SquarePants.
01:33Well, let's start cutting, Mike.
01:37We're trying to make the whiskey truck a modern driving car.
01:40Well, here you go.
01:41So we got our Suburban here.
01:43Enjoy it.
01:43And we're getting ready to harvest the motor out of this thing.
01:45We're going with the Bama risk.
01:47Mm-hmm.
01:48That shit worked.
01:49Oh, my God.
01:51Oh, my God.
01:53Ron, he's a big personality, and we need this van
01:56to kind of match his personality, I think.
01:58Damn.
01:59A lot.
01:59The tricky thing is a 70-step van really has no style.
02:03This is like a toaster on wheels.
02:05So we actually got to give this thing a little bit of style.
02:07That's badass, right?
02:09That's better than Ron, Mike.
02:09It's going to be iconic, really.
02:11We're going to shock the world out how cool this van is.
02:13I can't wait.
02:20Well, it's a nice snug fit, eh?
02:21Yeah.
02:28So the next step we want to do to our whiskey van
02:30is get the fuel cell mounted.
02:33First thing we're going to do is make some brackets,
02:34weld it to the aluminum tank itself,
02:36and then we'll make some brackets come off of the frame.
02:43OK.
02:49Look at that, man.
02:50That's it.
02:51I tell you, man.
02:52Yeah.
02:53I tell you, bro.
02:56I need you to eyeball these two brackets anyway, Joe.
02:58All right.
02:59Now that we've got most of the subfloor built,
03:01Joe and I were ready to start mounting the fuel tank
03:03in the whiskey van here.
03:04Put a tack on them, and then we can take all this-
03:06Monkey business?
03:07No, this monkey business off, and that's a good word for it.
03:10Monkey business.
03:11Yep.
03:13First thing we'll do here, we'll have to figure out
03:14what brackets we need.
03:15I was going to try to say the word bracketry earlier.
03:18Oh, that's pretty good.
03:19Bracketry.
03:20I like that word, mate.
03:21Once we get all that thing set in place just where we need it,
03:24we'll be able to start routing the exhaust.
03:25That one looks pretty good over there.
03:27OK.
03:28That one looks good, man.
03:29You like it?
03:30I think so, man.
03:31OK.
03:32Let me see if I can get something, something on it.
03:33This one's good, or it's got to come up some?
03:35Just a tad, right there.
03:37Not much.
03:38Right there.
03:44I sound like a popcorn machine this morning.
03:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:50We've got the fuel tank mounted in place.
03:51We've got all the brackets made.
03:53Now that we've got that mounted, I'm
03:54like, I'm going to start making your exhaust, brother.
03:56This thing got a little bit more crowded than we expected back
03:58here, good thing we put it in.
03:59Joe, he's going to have his hands full routing this stuff
04:01around there, but that's the next thing
04:03we're going to move on to.
04:04I'll be back here for a little while.
04:05Not too much longer.
04:14We've got to have two inches of travel here.
04:16And we don't have, how big is that pipe?
04:20We'll do this at 2 1⁄2.
04:21So we've got the fuel cell mounted in the van here,
04:24and space is filling up quick in here.
04:26Yeah, if we're going under with the exhaust,
04:28I think it clears us.
04:29Yeah.
04:30So I'm glad we put it in here first,
04:31because we've got to route this exhaust,
04:33and it's going to make it tricky.
04:42We've got coilovers.
04:43We've got the fuel tank.
04:46We've got track arm.
04:50All these obstacles in our way.
04:51We're just going to have to do some navigating and make sure
04:58nothing bumps or rubs or hits, or, you know,
05:01we don't want the gas tank getting super hot or anything.
05:03Back in about a 16th your way, Mike.
05:06That way?
05:07The back needs to go that way.
05:08Oh, good.
05:09All right, it's all yours, brother.
05:18Now the next deal we'll do, we'll raise the car
05:20if we can kind of get under it and start fishing it
05:23around the under the rear end and around the gas tanking
05:25and out the exhaust ports.
05:26So certainly the hardest part of the exhaust.
05:30But Joe's a master at that, so I don't even worry about it.
05:32I just maybe it's tricky for him.
05:35All I have to do is weld.
05:36So easy for me.
05:39Look at that, Mike.
05:41You got to be me, man.
05:42It can't be that easy.
05:44Yeah.
05:45Don't say it too loud.
05:46I know, don't say it too loud.
05:47Don't say it too loud, man.
05:49Held it up in there, and I got perfect clearance.
05:52Come on, man.
05:54Can't get off that easy, Mike.
05:56Can we?
05:58These are straight out of the kit, pre-bent,
06:00and they worked out perfectly.
06:03Makes my life a lot easier.
06:04Look at that, man.
06:05Look how nice that worked out, man.
06:06We're sweating the back end of this thing.
06:08Damn, son.
06:10Instead of having to pie cut and add little sections in
06:13to make it around the turn, I got a break,
06:15so this worked out good.
06:18I ain't going no more.
06:22Hey, man, I'll kill the machine, dog.
06:24Damn.
06:26Perfect.
06:27So really all we're going to do is mount it,
06:29and it's ready to come out, complete the welding, and we've got to complete exhaust it.
06:38Ain't going to get much better.
06:40That's pretty good.
06:41You know what I mean?
06:42Go ahead and finish the side up, and we'll duplicate the other side, brother.
06:45Let me put my welder up and get the TIG machine.
06:47I need you to look at this real quick, Joe.
06:51Here on our whiskey van, Joe and I, we're going to take a quick look at our steering.
06:54I think I know what we need to do.
06:56I know we talked about trying to save some stuff, or locate some stuff, but we're going
06:59to have to remove all this stuff.
07:00Yeah.
07:01Yeah.
07:02No way around it.
07:03Before I cut it.
07:04The wheel's going to be up here anyway, so we're going to have to have that room, and
07:06then we're going to have to hang that steering column, so we're going to have to come out
07:09some kind of fancy.
07:10I'm going to go ahead and remove the last remaining 8% of this van on the inside, so
07:15it'll be 100% gutted.
07:17That'll allow us to put our steering column in, and we'll go from there.
07:19Well, let's get that cut out, and then I'll go dig a column out for you.
07:23Perfect.
07:24This is a giver, as you can see.
07:31I mean, it keeps giving, but here shortly, it has nothing else to give.
07:37I got something for you.
07:54I just need to put it in and clamp it.
08:05The deal that's been bothering us this whole time is the angle of the steering column and
08:09the steering rod.
08:10Let's see here.
08:11The only thing that makes this steering a little bit more difficult than a car on this
08:14van, you're sitting right on top of the steering column.
08:16You're sitting right on top of the front end instead of the back in the car.
08:19I'll hang the brake assembly.
08:20That way, we'll know exactly where we're going.
08:22Yeah.
08:23The angle.
08:24Look here.
08:25So if we took that, imagine we have that tub right here, right?
08:28So our tub's running this way.
08:29It'll probably just come like this, and then we'll probably go like this, man.
08:32Follow this line here.
08:33I think we'll just break it, break it, and then we can do this, man.
08:37I think we kind of got it worked out in our heads, but we'll see what transpires here.
08:41Oh, man, that's it.
08:46Now here comes the problem that we've all been waiting on, is getting it from this point
08:57here, the bottom of the steering column, to the steering right.
09:00I think I got it.
09:01Oh, man, what'd you get?
09:02Can you sit in the driver's seat and kind of eyeball the gas pedal and stuff for me?
09:05The problem is the gas pedal and the brake pedal's all right here and away.
09:08If I could run a straight line, it wouldn't be any problem, but we have to put these elbows
09:12on it, which lets it move a little bit.
09:14So if we can get that done, we're good.
09:19Will we be able to work around that with the pedals, you think?
09:21Yeah, hell yeah, boy.
09:22Because that's not a bad angle right there, Joe.
09:24That thing got to steer nice right there.
09:26I don't know.
09:27It's kind of trial and error, so you need room for that high end right there.
09:31Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
09:32I might as well just get this to working, because it's got to be worse.
09:36It's got to be.
09:37And then we'll have to make it.
09:38Yep, you're right, man.
09:39Oh, yeah.
09:42Now y'all can see my problem.
09:44My gas pedal goes right here.
09:46I'm trying to get this thing out of the way as much as I can.
09:49I'm going to start nipping on my rod.
09:50I need to shorten the jizz a little bit.
09:52As soon as these joints right here quit binding up,
09:54that's where I'm going to lock it in at.
09:55Hopefully when I'm done, it's going to lay just about something right there.
09:59Steer like a brand new Cadillac.
10:09This thing's like a spider leg, man.
10:14Damn, what the happy means of it.
10:18Let's turn it nicer.
10:20Mike, you look like you need a wheel, man.
10:22Look at that thing, man.
10:23My little knuckle, it works good.
10:26I got pretty lucky today.
10:27I got my steering rod in.
10:32Damn, man.
10:34I was able to make the gas pedal out of the Donor Suburban,
10:37which the motor came out of.
10:39Steering on.
10:40Man, that's slick, man.
10:41We're sweating that, too, and it's pretty good.
10:44It ain't over with yet, but it's pretty good.
10:47It's worked out better than I really could expect,
10:50to be honest with you,
10:51because we've been sweating this part the whole time.
10:53Damn, man, that is cool, man.
10:55That's great.
10:56That worked out great, man.
10:57The party's not over with yet.
10:59We still have to put the floorboard in and make the wheel well clear,
11:02and the pedals still have to have room to engage total.
11:05So we still have a little work to do, but it's looking good.
11:21I don't need this anymore.
11:23The next thing down at the bottom,
11:24we need to put our wheel tubs and stuff in.
11:26But before we do that,
11:27we're going to go ahead and make that air intake.
11:29I think it's going to be under the dash,
11:32and it'll be a lot easier to get to now than later.
11:36After I get the air intake done,
11:38it's a pretty simple project.
11:39I'll probably move on to my floors,
11:41and we're going to start, you know,
11:42putting some face on all this metal we put in this van.
11:49This may be the simplest one I've ever done.
11:52Just like that.
11:53Straight shot.
11:54Easy peasy.
11:55Damn, Mike, what you got?
11:57You got our...
11:58Well...
11:59Is this our bumper material, brother?
12:00Yeah, yeah.
12:01Now, we've got the length figured out.
12:02I'm going to go ahead and cut it.
12:03Well, look, it's already pre-rusted.
12:04Yeah.
12:05Are we going to run a front license plate?
12:06We'll go outlaw style.
12:07Yeah, I'd rather go outlaw style.
12:08No plate.
12:09Be easier.
12:10Yeah, yeah.
12:11Well, let's do a smoothie, Mike.
12:12Let me do a smoothie, Joe.
12:13Maybe a couple lights.
12:14Well, cut it.
12:15Let's see how it looks.
12:16So we're making some good progress on the whiskey van here.
12:31And so while we're in the front here, I'm going to start fashioning up a bumper.
12:37What we're trying to do is get the front of the van looking lower, appearing lower,
12:40and the bumper will actually fill this void.
12:45Well, I hope my stanchions are good.
12:46Man, I can curl this thing, Mike.
12:47Look.
12:48Yeah.
12:49Yeah, it's not very much so, Joe.
12:50No, it ain't.
12:51Let's see what we got here, Mike.
12:52Whoo!
12:53I decided we're going to start with a 2x6 with mild steel square tubing.
12:57So Mike's fashioned up some little stanchion things here where we can rest it, check our height,
13:01and then we'll fashion some really cool ends that kind of complement the fender well here.
13:06So the first thing we're going to do is get it kind of in place,
13:09and then we can start fashioning the end pieces.
13:12Let me see.
13:13Pull this thing off for a minute.
13:14Pull this.
13:15Grab your side, man.
13:16See, I'd like to cook.
13:17If we stopped right here, Mike, we could cover this inconsistency.
13:20Just kind of, it would clean all this up, you know, that factory line right there.
13:24We can go down.
13:26Yep.
13:27Inch and a half, huh?
13:28Inch and a half.
13:29Inch and a half, man.
13:30Let's do it.
13:39Yeah, here we go.
13:46All right, man.
13:49We got the bumper really close, and we got our ground height, I think, just about right.
13:58What I'm doing right now is making some bumper ends.
14:01So these will replace the ends of the front bumper, box it in.
14:05Got it?
14:06Yeah.
14:07Yeah.
14:08Here we go.
14:09Oh, yeah.
14:10I felt that thing shucking and jiving, son.
14:12Did it pull?
14:13Weld that up, Mike.
14:14I'll start making pieces on the other side, and our bumpers are wraps, huh?
14:15Yeah, one day bumper.
14:16Yep!
14:17Well, maybe a day and a half.
14:18Weld it up, Mike.
14:19Weld it up, Mike.
14:20Weld it up, Mike.
14:20Weld it up, Mike.
14:22Weld it up, Mike.
14:22Weld it up, Mike.
14:23Weld it up.
14:25Bam!
14:25Look.
14:25Yo.
14:26You got it.
14:26Pull it best.
14:27Did it push?
14:27Get it?
14:29andamn.
14:30Got it?
14:30Yeah, yeah.
14:31It okay, we'll go.
14:32Oh, yeah.
14:33I felt that thing shucking and jiving, son.
14:34Did it pull?
14:35Weld that up, Mike.
14:36I'll start making pieces on the other side and our bumpers are wraps, huh?
14:38Yeah, one day bumper.
14:39Yep.
14:39Well, maybe a day and a half.
14:45Yeah, here on our van, now that I've got the wheel tub down on this, the firewall in,
14:53if we can go ahead and proceed by building the dash, so that's the next thing that we're
14:56going to do.
14:57Joe and I will both get in here, we'll build the frame for it, and then we'll go break
15:05some sheet metal for the top of it.
15:06Let me show you what I got going on here.
15:08I need to stick this sumbitch on right here.
15:10Got me with him, son.
15:11Okay, right there.
15:12Hit it one more time right in the middle.
15:19Will, you ready for a dash scan?
15:20I'm, I'm, yeah.
15:21Yeah.
15:38So I need to break it right here, Mike, look.
15:40Yeah.
15:41Right here and here.
15:42All right, Mike.
15:43Did you un-greedy it?
15:44Well, I hope.
15:45I hope.
15:46There it is, Mike.
15:49We've got the dash on the driver's side complete, now we're going to do the passenger's side.
15:55When we get that done, we'll fill the piece in the middle, and then we'll move forward.
15:59All right.
16:00Here on our whiskey band, as you can see, I've got all the floor structure made, so now it's
16:13finally time to put the floors in.
16:14I'm going to need you to help me carry my template, though.
16:17First thing I need to do is make a paper template of the floor.
16:20I will take this paper out and lay it on the diamond plate, trace it out, cut that metal
16:24out, bring it back, and weld that back to the floor.
16:27I don't know, man.
16:28I'd leave that extra meat on there, Mike.
16:30Well, it's tight.
16:31We're using diamond plate for two reasons.
16:33This is the door right here.
16:34Yeah.
16:35One, it looks cool.
16:36Two, it's structurally sound for this particular application.
16:38Because if it gets too wide, it's going to rub the doors.
16:40OK.
16:41And I think we're just going to kind of let it rust and wear and just kind of look like
16:44the rest of the van.
16:45Is that on it?
16:46Yep.
16:47Right on top.
16:48Let's cut it right there.
16:58Come on with it.
16:59If I can see if it fits or it don't, bring your gloves, brother.
17:02Damn.
17:03Yeah, it's got some weight to it.
17:05We want to use the biggest pieces we can in here.
17:07Let me go get a persuader.
17:10Without having a whole bunch of pieces patched in with seams.
17:18That's it.
17:19That's all you got, bro.
17:20Bingo.
17:21We want the floor to look a little clean and seamless.
17:22So really, the top of the floor is just going to be built out of three pieces.
17:31All right.
17:32Now, I can't guarantee this motherfucker is going to fit.
17:33But I don't even know if we're going to be able to get it in, to be honest with you.
17:36Yeah, come on, man.
17:41Get your knife.
17:42That's a huckleberry, son.
17:43That's clean looking, isn't it?
17:44Yeah, it's clean, boy.
17:45I like it.
17:46So I got the harness here for the whiskey van.
17:54This is what came out of the Suburban that we pulled the engine out of.
17:57So right now, I'm going ahead and taking all the split looming harness wrap, everything off of this, so I can inspect it for any damages and remove any additional features that we are not putting on this van that were on the Suburban.
18:07One bite at a time.
18:08So with everything wiring, it's going to be really tedious.
18:12You want to really pay attention.
18:13If you mix a wire up here, it's going to make drivability issues all the way down the road.
18:17You're going to have problems, and I know where it's going to go.
18:19I really got to be paying attention to everything I'm doing, make sure I'm not nicking any wires, checking everything for any damages.
18:24That way I can repair it now and be good for the dump road.
18:39Man, I got something for you here, Mike.
18:40Oh, yeah.
18:41I need them.
18:42I need them right now, matter of fact.
18:43So we just got our wheels in for the whiskey van, and we're pretty excited.
18:46We got the tires on the back, and one thing we want to do is we want to check our axle width.
18:50Now you think we can get them under there?
18:52I still got the rearing housing in there.
18:54Well.
18:55We can see.
18:56I figured we'd check and see.
18:57We can do a measurement maybe, huh?
18:58Yeah.
18:59Before we cut the axle down, we actually put the wheel and tire in there and get our fitment,
19:04and that'll determine the axle width where we got to cut it down.
19:06Want me to bring it down?
19:07Let it down.
19:08You going to stay in there?
19:09Yeah, go slow.
19:10Well, don't.
19:11Oh, yeah.
19:12Go slow.
19:13You'll be taking me to the hospital in this thing.
19:14Yeah.
19:15Come on down, brother.
19:17Come on down.
19:18Watch them legs, Mike.
19:19Yeah, no kidding.
19:20Hold on.
19:21Let me re-grip.
19:22There it is.
19:23That's on the ground.
19:24There it is, Mike.
19:25I like it.
19:26Man, it looks killer, doesn't it?
19:27Yeah.
19:28Yeah.
19:29This side looks like it's got a little bit more room.
19:31It does, doesn't it?
19:32This side's good.
19:33That side's perfect, man.
19:35But we know we need three-eighths more over here.
19:37Three-eighths on that side.
19:38That's perfect, man.
19:39All right, brother.
19:40That's our plan.
19:41All right.
19:42Well, let's get the wheels out of it, and then I'll pull the rear end out.
19:44Got it.
19:45I got something.
19:47You're loose.
19:49Now we know what the location of the rear end is and the length of the axle tube and stuff,
19:54so here we go.
19:55That panel bar is going to swing.
19:57Move it that way.
19:58We've taken the rear end out now.
19:59We're going to set it up on the table.
20:00I'll cut it down a little bit and weld it all back together.
20:03Did I crash the camera?
20:06So after we put it back in and get everything bolted back up and everything where it goes,
20:10hopefully our wheels still fit correctly.
20:13That sumbitch is 28 and 3 quarters exactly.
20:17Mm-hmm.
20:18That should be five inches.
20:19Yep.
20:20Three-eighths and five-eighths is eight-eighths.
20:21Eight-eighths is an inch, right?
20:22Yep.
20:23Yep.
20:24All right, brother.
20:25You ready?
20:26Yeah.
20:27One of the things we like to do when we get all the floors finished up, get the wheels
20:50on it, get everything set up, we like to get the vehicle out on the floor.
20:53We do a little stance check.
20:55Test fit away.
20:56Barely.
20:57Barely.
20:58See how it kind of loads up with the weight on it and everything and just kind of get
21:02back and admire it.
21:04So we're getting to that point and we're getting ready to do that.
21:06Damn.
21:07Are you ready, Dave?
21:08I'm going to kick this block out from under it.
21:13Damn.
21:16Man, that's cool.
21:18So we got the whiskey van out on the floor and it looks awesome.
21:24You know what?
21:25That's badass the way it sits.
21:26Damn, look at this, man.
21:28This thing was just a hunk of crap and I'm actually starting to like it.
21:32So that's a good thing because the more you like something, the harder you work on it.
21:36So I'm all in it now.
21:39Before the back of the top, the bottom of the bumper was here before.
21:42You know, when you get them out there, it just, they take on a whole new look.
21:46It's pretty low.
21:47We need to raise it actually a little bit, as much as I hate to say that.
21:51Man, I want to put my seats in it now.
21:53But other than that, it looks killer.
21:55It sits great.
21:56So I'm pretty, I'm pretty excited how it came out.
21:59That's the easy part of it.
22:08Now that Joe's got the seat rails on the seats for the whiskey van, he's fabbed up the seat plates.
22:13I've got the pedals ready.
22:14I've got them tacked together.
22:15And what we'll do now, we'll put them on the seats.
22:17Oh, we have plenty of room.
22:19Let me go get my helper.
22:21Get it mounted in the van and tacked into place, and I'll disassemble it if I can weld it all together.
22:25Here we go.
22:26All right.
22:30Yeah, it's a straight eyeball thing.
22:32Man, that's right on there, man.
22:34Let me look for the back, make sure you got no lean.
22:36Yeah.
22:39Did it pull it over?
22:40Right there.
22:41Nah.
22:42Did it move it?
22:43Nah, that's perfect, man.
22:44Damn, man.
22:46With the door shut.
22:49Aw, man.
22:50Look at that.
22:51Now we've got our seats in.
22:52They're looking great.
22:53They feel good.
22:54The position of them is really good, so I think we hit that right on.
22:57Damn, that's solution.
22:58Let's put the other one in, Joe.
22:59Here we go.
23:01I think next Joe's going to make the gauge cluster.
23:04We'll go from there, then go to the engine cover, and then go to the back where the door's supposed to be.
23:09We just like Big Worm.
23:10Cruising like Big Worm, right?
23:12Eh, eh.
23:16We got it tucking in there.
23:17Yeah.
23:18Oh, look at that, Mike.
23:19Look at that.
23:20All right there, Mike.
23:21All right?
23:22Well, man, that's looking pretty good, Mike.
23:23Yeah.
23:24Got plenty of room.
23:25I like it.
23:26I'll get a little metal finish on here, and we can figure out how to clamp it down.
23:29Man, that's a go there.
23:30Guess I'll wrap up this gauge cluster for you, Mike.
23:32This piece here is a very simple piece to make, but it's a critical piece.
23:33It has to house the gauges.
23:34It's got to be very visible to the driver, obviously.
23:35And then we've got to fit all that stuff into one little pod.
23:39I'm just going to test fit it and see how it looks.
23:46So we've got the gauge cluster in place.
23:47I think it's going to work pretty good.
23:48Got to cut a hole in the top of this dash so I can have access to all my, the actual gauges
23:49that'll go in here.
23:50This thing's coming together really well.
23:51These last two pieces here are kind of the last thing.
23:53It's really metal-like.
23:54Yeah.
23:55The next thing's coming together.
23:56We're really beautiful.
23:57This is this engine.
23:58This is this engine.
23:59This engine.
24:00The next engine.
24:01This engine.
24:02This engine.
24:03This engine.
24:04We're really powerful.
24:05They're so powerful.
24:06That's right.
24:07So we've got to fit all that stuff into one little pod.
24:13I'm just going to test fit it and see how it looks.
24:18are kind of the last things, really, metal-wise,
24:20for the interior.
24:21So now that we've got all this stuff done,
24:23the boys can continue the wiring and the plumbing.
24:26And meanwhile, we'll start moving towards getting
24:28this thing ready for paint.
24:36Now that the metal work is finished on the van,
24:38the first thing we want to do is we want to undercoat it
24:40before we go to the paint stage.
24:41So we've got to get all the suspension out,
24:43get the motor out, get the plumbing out,
24:45undercoat this thing, and it's ready for paint.
24:47Removing this motor is all going to be a new experience,
24:49because I've kind of just built it down into the frame.
24:51But I don't think we've got enough height right here.
24:54The difficulty is going to be getting it out
24:56of the engine bay to start with,
24:57and then you've got to get it back out the door.
24:59I think I have to adjust it as we go.
25:02All right, slow and easy.
25:04I'm trying to find a little soft spot in it.
25:06Precision is the key of the deal,
25:07because there's no room coming up,
25:09and there's no room going out.
25:11There you go.
25:13About an inch to me.
25:15Okay.
25:16Slow and easy.
25:17Okay.
25:18Okay, hold on.
25:19Watch the power steering.
25:20You just have to be steady,
25:21and watch what you're doing here.
25:22Watch this wire.
25:23Watch this wire.
25:24All right, you're clear down here.
25:26It's very nerve-wracking getting this thing out.
25:28It's all you right now, brother.
25:29We don't want to screw up our metalwork.
25:30We don't want to knock any brackets,
25:31you know, off the engine or anything like that.
25:32So, yeah, it's very tricky.
25:33All right, go ahead.
25:34Take it straight back.
25:35Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
25:36You know when we got the motor up out of the hole
25:37and we was backing out the door with it,
25:38it got really tight there for a little bit.
25:39Let's stick your hands with it.
25:40Okay, hold on.
25:41Hold on.
25:42Hold on.
25:43Hold on.
25:44Hold on.
25:45Hold on.
25:46Hold on.
25:47Hold on.
25:48Hold on.
25:49Hold on.
25:50Hold on.
25:51Hold on.
25:52Hold on.
25:53Hold on.
25:54Hold on.
25:56I hate this, man.
25:57Joe's backing up,
25:58and I'm trying to hold the motor
25:59and keep it off the door.
26:00I think we had, like, a half inch on each side
26:01to get it out of there.
26:03Come on.
26:05It's swinging.
26:06You know, the guys are trying to hold it,
26:07and, you know, the forklift's jerking a little bit.
26:09It's, you know,
26:10it can be nerve-wracking.
26:11All right, go ahead.
26:13We had this long extension on the forklift
26:16what made it bad.
26:17So every little movement Joe made on the forklift,
26:18it was ten times more on the end of that deal.
26:21There it is.
26:23There it is.
26:24It could have got ugly.
26:25Thank God we kept it to a minimum and got it out.
26:27Where you going?
26:29Now that we got the motor out of this thing,
26:30I'm starting to get excited.
26:31A few more little touches underneath,
26:33a few more things to weld down.
26:34As soon as we get that done, we're ready to undercoat it.
26:41So right now, we got the van outside up on the lift,
26:44and we're going to undercoat the bottom of the frame.
26:47Joe and Mike got everything sanded on the van here
26:50and taped up for me.
26:52I'm going to shoot some sealer on all the bare metal,
26:55and then I can get to undercoat.
27:03I'll spray the bottom side of the car first,
27:06get that all finished, and then we'll drop it down,
27:08and then I'll work on the inside of the floor.
27:22Oh, where to start?
27:25Where to start?
27:26Let's start in the mat.
27:29There's a lot of different angles and little pockets
27:32and stuff like that, so it's just going to be time-consuming
27:34getting in there and making sure I get everything covered.
27:40Right now, it's bare metal on the floor and stuff.
27:42It's just diamond plates.
27:43So once I get it bedlined, it'll have just a little bit
27:45of a texture to it, but you can still
27:47see all the diamond plate inside the metal.
27:56Little wheel kick, little wheel kick, Mike.
27:58Yeah, son.
28:00So all the metal work is done on this whiskey van.
28:02We've undercoated everything.
28:03Now it's ready for painting.
28:04Damn, Mike.
28:05Look at that.
28:05Finally in the booth.
28:06First thing in the morning, I'll start spraying, brother.
28:09Damn, bad ass.
28:10That's a bad ass joke.
28:26They want a rustic look for this thing.
28:28The main objective is I've got to put a dark color.
28:30They want to do some black.
28:31They want to do some amber colors, some bronze colors on there.
28:35And we're going to put their logos on there.
28:37So I've got to make it pop against this.
28:40So the base color is going to be mainly based around black.
28:45We're going patina.
28:46We're going flat color.
28:47So I don't have to color sand and buff this thing.
28:49As far as painting goes, it's actually
28:50going to be a pretty easy gig.
28:56We decided to go the undercoat and the floor.
28:58And the rest of it will simulate the old school look
29:00they're looking for.
29:05There's going to be what's going to look like some bronze colors
29:08simulating kind of rust coming through.
29:10Hopefully, we can come out with a cool combination.
29:31There we go.
29:32Chad put like 16 on that .
29:33Got the whiskey van grill here.
29:50Before I paint this thing, I got a little modification I was
29:53wanting to try to do.
29:54So I actually want to take some grill mesh and cut a little piece
29:58out, and then I actually bead rolled it just to strengthen
30:01it a little bit.
30:03And so basically, what I'm going to do
30:04is fill in the existing hole with something just looks a
30:07little better.
30:08Aw, man, look at that.
30:09That's cool, mate.
30:10These right here are going to be the same color.
30:12Same color, brother.
30:13Same color, I think.
30:14Yeah.
30:15Where are they at?
30:16Let's hang them up there and look at them.
30:17Uh, this is already halfway patinated.
30:19Damn sure it is, isn't it?
30:20Yeah.
30:21Hmm.
30:22Yeah.
30:23So the grill shell, black, I say the bezel's bronze.
30:27Yeah.
30:28Leave that grill mesh, that aluminum color.
30:29Yeah.
30:30Hell yeah.
30:31I think it ought to look good, man.
30:32Yeah.
30:33Dude, the bumpers ain't good.
30:34That's what we do is gray them out.
30:35We need to gray it out.
30:36Yep.
30:37All right.
30:38That's my plan.
30:41I just started with the bottom right here.
30:43I'll make another one for the top, and I got four pieces of
30:45trim that go back in, the factory trim.
30:47But I think it's going to look pretty cool once it's finished
30:49up.
30:51Adds a little touch to the front end, which is kind of bland.
30:53And I'm going to make a little bit of a little bit of a
30:55little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a
30:57little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a
30:59front end, which is kind of bland.
31:01And then I just got a little custom grill insert.
31:07Then that'll go in there.
31:08It's a bad ass in here.
31:09It's all right, ain't it, brother?
31:10Definitely.
31:11Yeah.
31:12Yeah, it'll be all right, man.
31:13Yeah.
31:14Look at that, man.
31:15Let's hang it up, Mike.
31:17Them boys don't know when to quit.
31:19Oh, man, look at that.
31:20Yeah.
31:21It's all right, man.
31:22Look at that.
31:23It'll be all right.
31:24Man, that's cool, isn't it?
31:26I mean, this thing's got a face only a mama could love,
31:28you know what I mean?
31:29Sure does.
31:30We got to dress it up a little bit.
31:32I'll get it painted up, Mike, and then we'll get that front end
31:34knocked out.
31:35We're getting close, Joe.
31:36We're getting close, man.
31:42So what Joe's fixing to do here is a work of art.
31:46I just stand back and watch.
31:47But see, you can see when he gets his little pencil,
31:49his little brush in his mouth like that.
31:50His little pencil.
31:51And then he's got his little mixing can there.
31:53What I'm going to start doing is put some of the logos
31:58of the garage oil bottle.
32:00It's going to go on the van.
32:01This is actually a garage oil badass whiskey shirt.
32:06And so I'm going to use this font right here.
32:11What I want to do is just basically scale this out
32:14with the grease pencil.
32:15That just gives me kind of a guideline where I'm going
32:17to drag the brush.
32:18And since we're going with a dry brush look,
32:20kind of make it look like old lettering,
32:22I want it to look like it's done by hand.
32:24Hopefully it looks cool.
32:25Yeah, I'm liking how the lettering is looking on the back
32:42of the van here.
32:43Being that this is the start, I'm kind of warmed up now.
32:46And I'm excited about doing the sides.
32:48Ron definitely wanted this thing to be kind of a rolling
32:51billboard.
32:52So we definitely want to concentrate on the logos.
32:55In the darker background, I think it'll make all these
32:57logos pop.
32:58We don't want too much.
32:59We don't want too little.
33:18Getting down to the wire in this thing.
33:19We got everything wrapped up.
33:21Got a few more little details.
33:22But most importantly, we want to show it to Ron,
33:24present it to him, see what he thinks.
33:27There we go.
33:28This was a fun project.
33:30The big part for me was doing all the paint work.
33:32That's kind of fun.
33:35When I stand back and look at it,
33:36it's kind of almost comical, really.
33:37I mean, looking at that thing and what it used to be,
33:40I mean, it kind of makes you giggle a little bit.
33:48So we got the seats in, the dashes in,
33:51everything's riveted together.
33:52It's looking good.
33:53We're ready for Ron.
34:05So we're pretty excited.
34:06This whiskey van, everything's ready to go for test drive.
34:08Woo!
34:09We're locked in now.
34:10A lot of work went into it.
34:12Engineering.
34:13We built a cool frame for it.
34:16So I can't wait to check it out, see how it rolls.
34:27The exhaust sounds killer.
34:29We've got straight pipe.
34:30We've got headers on this thing.
34:31It sounds like a little muscle car.
34:32I'm going to open my door, too.
34:33Open it on us.
34:34Uh-huh.
34:35I want some sunshine to shine in.
34:37What do you think, baby?
34:38It's kind of fun, ain't it?
34:39It's a lot of fun.
34:41I'm very excited how this thing drove.
34:43I didn't really know what to expect.
34:44Woo!
34:48You never had a step van do that, huh?
34:50Got some get up and go.
34:51I know the aerodynamics are not there.
34:53I figured it might sway a little bit.
34:55But the frame feels killer.
34:56Motor feels great.
34:57This is the motor we got out of the Suburban
35:00we bought from Bama.
35:01Oh, yeah.
35:02Yeah.
35:03Yeah, Bama came through on this deal.
35:04He did.
35:05He really did.
35:06It rides smooth.
35:07I mean, this thing actually handles pretty good.
35:10Woo!
35:11Woo!
35:12Woo!
35:13Well, the rivets really kind of tie it together.
35:17I know it.
35:18It really gives it that industrial look that you want.
35:20I know.
35:21I know.
35:22I love the look of it.
35:25A little loud inside.
35:26I mean, you're basically riding around in a tin box,
35:28but, you know, it was comfortable.
35:29I think rode great.
35:30Made decent power.
35:32That was pretty good, doesn't it?
35:34I like it!
35:35Felt like I could take it to the track
35:37and drift it or something, man, you know?
35:39Everything works great.
35:40It steers great.
35:41Yeah.
35:42It's actually a lot of fun to drive.
35:43Woo!
35:52That's funny.
35:53Oh!
35:54Damn.
35:58So Ron's coming in today to check out this finished-up whiskey van.
36:07They should be here any minute.
36:09Who?
36:10Who?
36:11Who, who?
36:12The whiskey guys.
36:13American Badass Whiskey Boys.
36:15I cannot express to you how excited I am for today.
36:19Lanny and Ron get to come in,
36:21and we finally get to reveal the whiskey van.
36:24Oh, here they come in.
36:25Oh, my samples are here.
36:26Oh!
36:27That's my delivery.
36:28That's my delivery.
36:29You know, I'm always excited and nervous
36:30about revealing these things.
36:32Ron, he's a big character.
36:33Yee-haw!
36:34I think he's gonna respond to this thing well,
36:36but you know, you never know.
36:37So hopefully he digs it.
36:38What's happening, boys?
36:39Hey, guys!
36:40Hey!
36:41What's up?
36:42How are you?
36:43Yeah, the last time I saw it,
36:44it was a silver box.
36:46I trust Joe for sure, but God, it's scary, you know?
36:49Because what if it's not the vision?
36:51I'm too excited.
36:52Are you?
36:53I'm jittery.
36:54I trust Joe, and I just want to go see it, man.
36:57Today's the day!
36:58I know, I know.
36:59I couldn't sleep last night.
37:00We just want to see you guys' reaction.
37:02God dang it.
37:03Let's get Mike.
37:04Come on, come on, come on.
37:05Let's do it.
37:06Let's start there.
37:07All right, we'll get Mike to bring it out here.
37:09Uh-oh.
37:10Uh-oh.
37:11Did you hear that?
37:12Is that it?
37:13That's the sound?
37:14That's it!
37:15Uh-oh.
37:16All eyes on the door.
37:17I don't know if you saw Ron.
37:18He was so excited to see it, he covered his eyes.
37:20It was like Christmas morning to him.
37:22He doesn't want to look yet.
37:24He was like, I don't want this to end, to cover my eyes.
37:27Uh-huh.
37:28Wow, look at the ball.
37:30Oh, man!
37:33His response was just amazing.
37:35I mean, I think he really loves it.
37:37That's what you want.
37:38Yeah, that's what you want.
37:39And Lanny, too.
37:40Yeah.
37:41Good grief.
37:42Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo.
37:43Is that a cool mox?
37:45Yeah, that is no wrap.
37:46There is no wrap on this.
37:48Wow.
37:49That's all paint.
37:50The bottle's the size of you!
37:52Yes, it is.
37:53The bottle's the size of me, man.
37:54Boy, you could have a good time with that bottle.
37:56You're darn right.
37:57Unbelievable.
37:58I mean, come on.
37:59It's just the coolest looking thing, right?
38:00You know, it's got that real feel for some nostalgia, some age.
38:03I love it, brother.
38:04I love it.
38:05It's in motion, man.
38:06This thing's sitting still in motion.
38:07For us, you know, trying to get our name out there, this is the perfect vehicle for it.
38:11Which way you guys want to go?
38:12You take me.
38:13Come on.
38:14I mean, it's always amazing to see the shape things come in and how they go out, because
38:19this thing was in bad shape.
38:20Dang!
38:21My buddy Jimmy Mungle had a P20, and we bought the van just to get the doors off it.
38:28It feels a little bit sinister.
38:30Not heavy, but a little bit.
38:31A little bit.
38:32A little bit.
38:33What are you talking about?
38:34Remember when we talked about the two logos?
38:37Remember that one?
38:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
38:39With every vehicle that comes out of here, the first thing that impacts is the paint.
38:44So, man, look at what you did with our hot rod, just like our bottle.
38:48And then with Joe putting so much of the design on this paint job, it's just, it's amazing.
38:54Didn't you say there's something on the door as well?
38:56Yeah.
38:57The shot black guy.
38:58Oh, nice.
38:59Cheers.
39:00Cheers.
39:01Cheers.
39:07Come look at the inside.
39:09All the floor's been completely handmade.
39:11Dash is handmade.
39:12Man, I like the rivets.
39:13You know, we thought it looked so cool.
39:15So me and Mike were like, you know what?
39:16We need to add more of this stuff.
39:17It just added to the look of it.
39:19So inside, we wanted to do, you know, something kind of utilitarian where it can be used, carry
39:24the whiskey.
39:25Man, I'm going to get up in this thing.
39:26See what you think.
39:27All right.
39:28Let me check this out.
39:29Got tilt steering there.
39:30And so the LS is under here.
39:32The LS is under there.
39:33Fire it up, man.
39:35Close.
39:36Wow.
39:37I felt like it could take off the ground.
39:40It was so powerful sounding.
39:41Woo!
39:44And it could feel it too, that rumble.
39:47You could feel it through your body.
39:49Sitting low.
39:50It's got a 100% custom made frame.
39:52I think they did a great job on it.
39:54This is what the definition of badass is.
39:57It's all there.
39:58It's what I expected it to be.
39:59That's our van, man.
40:01Can you believe that?
40:02Thank you, brother.
40:03I can't tell you how much I appreciate.
40:04Thank you, man.
40:05You did an awesome job.
40:06Shag.
40:07Thank you so much for your shagging out there.
40:08I love it, man.
40:09The stance, the look of the van, the little nuances that Mike and Joe did.
40:14Like, this is the guy.
40:15This is the guy.
40:16Yes, sir, man.
40:17Wonderful.
40:18Truly, thank you so much.
40:19You're a badass.
40:20My pleasure, brother.
40:21His response was just amazing.
40:23We get to go drink some free whiskey?
40:24Drink some free whiskey?
40:25I mean, I think he really...
40:27That's what you want.
40:28I think I know a guy.
40:29I can get some.
40:30Let's go get some whiskey.
40:31We got a call today.
40:32Ron wants to donate this thing to charity, so we're going to auction this thing off at
40:43Mecham.
40:44Mecham's, you know, one of the major national car auctions.
40:47You know, they do events all over the country, you know, major cities.
40:54This van was going to be something to help our company, now we're going to help other
40:57people, too.
40:58We're going to auction that van off and donate the proceeds to the St. Jude's charity.
41:04I'm a little skeptical about a patina step van, you know, in the middle of all these
41:09high-dollar cars, but hopefully this idea pans out and we make some money for charity.
41:15This is the van right now.
41:17We're two seconds or two minutes away from being on the block.
41:21Best of luck.
41:25There we go, brother.
