00:01France is home to thousands of stunning chateaux.
00:06Some forgotten and abandoned.
00:08It's making a hollow sound. It means that it's coming away from the wall.
00:12Now being brought back to life by intrepid new owners.
00:17This is completely winging it, learning as we go.
00:20They're taking on the challenge.
00:24I'm afraid I can't even look at it now.
00:27To restore these historic buildings.
00:30It's really an incomparable joy when you get a disinfection and the crappy walls.
00:35Into stunning homes.
00:37How you did glory look, that's what came for.
00:40And unique businesses.
00:42You make us your pride.
00:45There'll be successes.
00:46We got a ceiling.
00:49Wow.
00:50And setbacks.
00:52Nothing's coming through.
00:54But however hard the going gets.
00:56I don't like working in tariffs.
00:59The rewards can be great.
01:02To see the final result, it's worth every second.
01:05As they get to live the dream.
01:08It's not a bad life, is it?
01:09As custodians of their very own castle.
01:15Today.
01:17Give it 20 minutes.
01:18It's probably going to pass over.
01:20And there'll be sunshine again.
01:22One chateau owner holds out hope for the ultimate event weekend.
01:27Right, let's go.
01:30For another couple, their plans for a wedding get out of control.
01:35This is the gazebo that we bought and they've been blown up in the air and been burnt.
01:41Ah!
01:42I've got a wedding in three weeks.
01:44And it's a journey of discovery.
01:46Uh-oh.
01:47That doesn't look so great, does it?
01:49For a duo trying to complete their tower kitchen.
01:52Do you think we should look and see what the other one's like?
01:55I think it's a good idea, yeah.
02:02In a rural corner of the idyllic Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of Western France stands the awe-inspiring Chateau de la Boutiniere.
02:11With 47 rooms and four fairytale turrets, the chateau sits within a 52-acre estate.
02:24It lay abandoned and unloved for five years before interior designer Alison and builder-husband Zion bought it in 2021 for £580,000.
02:41I like buildings.
02:43And the older, the better.
02:46I find more character, more interesting.
02:49And it's a beautiful building.
02:50As an interior designer, I really am living the dream.
02:53I can try every style I feel like doing.
02:55Anything I've ever dreamt of doing, I've got enough space to do it.
02:58And for me, that is absolutely amazing.
03:04Located just a short drive from Bren National Park,
03:07for the past three years, Alison and Zion have been restoring the chateau to open as a luxury wedding venue.
03:18Last time we saw them...
03:20It's very precious, this.
03:22..they repaired an ancient mosaic stone step.
03:26Oh, the last piece!
03:28..made concrete planters for their wedding gardens.
03:31Hooray!
03:33All done!
03:35Look at that!
03:37And started to expose the original stone facade.
03:42My job is to go round the stones and release the shape of them from the render.
03:47Today, they need to fix the chateau's front entrance doors for their first wedding in just three weeks' time.
03:55It needs to look spectacular.
03:57When people arrive, they need to go...
03:58..you know, it has to be a sort of jaw-dropping moment.
04:00And at the moment, it certainly isn't.
04:02It is a jaw-dropping moment.
04:04Oh!
04:05Yeah, it's a bit of a let-down.
04:08Zion starts by removing the heavy cast-iron security grills to clean off decades of dirt and rust.
04:18He's doing the job!
04:19It's better, but it's still got quite a lot of green patches, hasn't it?
04:26Yeah.
04:27That's what I want to get rid of.
04:32OK.
04:34With it still not looking quite up to scratch for Alison...
04:38Can you support it? Just support it for now.
04:40..she's decided to spray the metal, and Zion has devised a way of hanging it,
04:46so she can paint both sides at once.
04:49This always happens.
04:50I'm usually just starting a job.
04:51I have my own plan.
04:52OK.
04:53And he comes along with some clever-ass idea, which is always better than mine.
04:57It's just I've been doing it longer than you.
05:00Put it there.
05:02Hook it.
05:04OK.
05:06Once the grill is in place...
05:09See what happens.
05:11...Alison starts spraying with outdoor metal paint.
05:15That looks quite good.
05:20It's looking really nice, isn't it?
05:22I really like that.
05:27Finally, it's time to get some colour on the doors.
05:31I like that.
05:32First sight.
05:33It looks good.
05:34It's a nice colour.
05:35It's deep enough to give the door presence and be different from the windows.
05:41Right.
05:42There we are.
05:43No drips.
05:45I think we're going to have to call it a day because we're not going to be able to see what we're doing in a minute and that would be a shame.
05:51That's it.
05:52Back up.
05:53Yeah.
05:54That's very nice.
05:55I think they're coming along really nicely, aren't they?
05:57They're going to be exactly what we wanted to have people see as they arrive.
06:02The entrance doors are half finished, but there's both the front and rear facade still to complete.
06:09Alison and Zion's dream wedding venue remains very much a work in progress.
06:16In the stunning Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of south-west France lies the magnificent 15th century Chateau Lagasse.
06:32Surrounded by 71 acres, the property boasts 22 bedrooms, beautiful terraces, and comes with the grandest of stone steps,
06:43leading down to an enormous lakeside swimming pool.
06:48It's home to Anna and Edward and their two children.
06:52One, two, three, go.
06:54Go!
06:55Emma and Charles.
06:58Yes! Bravo!
07:01It's an exceptional Chateau.
07:03It still takes my breath away every time you look over the terraces and also the weather.
07:08Don't forget I'm from Stockport and the weather's slightly better down here.
07:13There's days where I wake up and I think I get to live here.
07:17I have the chance to be in such a beautiful place.
07:20It's a privilege and it's the nicest place on earth.
07:26Located just 40 minutes from Bordeaux, the Chateau was bought for £890,000 in 2003.
07:35And Anna and Edward run it as a thriving wedding venue.
07:43The last time we saw them, they were getting to grips with a problematic fig tree.
07:49This is a three-ton mini digger and it's just like, nah, you're not pulling me out.
07:53And hosting another wedding on the banks of their private lake.
07:59It is pretty, pretty hectic just before the ceremony starts.
08:03It's a manic rush.
08:06Having perfected the hosting of weddings, this year they want to try and diversify their business by offering weekend event stays.
08:16We decided to come up with this concept where people stay with us, we do wine tasting and we go to antique fairs and it's all quite gourmet so it's very nice food too.
08:30We love antiques, we love wine and what's not to like?
08:36We're just kind of sharing our local knowledge really.
08:40With six guests arriving soon for the first weekend, there's a lot of preparation work.
08:49The guests that are coming, are coming here for a luxury experience, they're expecting high standards and everything needs to be perfect.
08:56We can't leave anything to chance.
09:00The guests soon start to arrive for the weekend of events and Anna makes sure that first impressions count.
09:15The drink is ready on the terrace as soon as they come over, crack it open to welcome them.
09:21Mwah!
09:23You brought the sunshine?
09:25It's lovely, isn't it?
09:27A cup of tea is what we need.
09:28We're having something else.
09:29Let's go.
09:33Welcome, guys.
09:34Cheers!
09:39It's going down a bit too well, actually.
09:41Don't worry, there's more.
09:43The last guests arriving and we can't wait to see her because she's travelled very, very far.
09:48Hi, Nancy.
09:49Oh, it's so nice to see you.
09:52My 50-pound bag.
09:53Oh, is it heavy?
09:55It's not that bad.
10:03So, this is your room, Nancy.
10:05Oh, wonderful.
10:07Very awesome.
10:08I'm glad you like it.
10:09I like it.
10:10So, we'll let you settle in and we're going to start preparing for dinner.
10:13OK.
10:14Yeah.
10:16Feels like being a princess, to be totally truthful.
10:19Four posts to bed, en suite, with a stunning bath overlooking the lake.
10:24What more could a woman wish for?
10:25I'm quite optimistic about the week ahead.
10:29It's a nice, fun schedule.
10:32The one problem we've got is, it's beautiful sunshine today, but we forecast rain tomorrow
10:38and the day after.
10:42Not much we can do about the weather, though, is there?
10:44No.
10:45That's the only thing we can't control.
10:46With their guests getting to know each other, things are off to a good start.
10:54Tomorrow, they hope a trip to an outdoor market and a wine tasting all goes according to plan.
11:06Coming up.
11:07How long is that?
11:08These are extendable.
11:09Alison's wedding plans are thrown into chaos.
11:13You need another 40 centimetres.
11:15Oh, isn't that just typical?
11:17I'm stuck.
11:18And a few nasty surprises in store.
11:21It's rotten.
11:22It's in better days, there's no doubt.
11:23For a couple's kitchen rebuild.
11:26OK.
11:33In the Occitanie region in the south of France is the beautiful Chateau de la Fard.
11:39Set in picturesque woodland, this impressive property boasts 35 rooms and is built around an imposing 12th century tower.
11:53The owners are Australian-born Janet.
11:58That is beautiful.
12:00And husband Philip, a former head coachman at Buckingham Palace.
12:05And they have been lovingly restoring it since 2012.
12:09The Chateau has provided us with a huge adventure.
12:15Actually, for me, it wasn't a case of love at first sight.
12:18It was a case of, oh my goodness, what are we getting into?
12:22But you know what?
12:23The place has totally won me over.
12:25Mostly, it's been a great ride.
12:27We've really enjoyed ourselves.
12:33Located near the ancient city of Nîmes, Janet and Philip bought the Chateau for £318,000 and run it as a luxury B&B.
12:45Last year, they transformed part of the derelict medieval tower into a stunning master bedroom.
12:58Now, they're renovating the rest of the rooms on the second floor to create one giant suite.
13:06Another coat, Bobby.
13:09It'll be better.
13:11So far, they've started to build a kitchen by upcycling old furniture.
13:17And their stylish vision for the room is slowly taking shape, with the idea of framing panels of wallpaper.
13:26I think it's okay.
13:28The concept is still great.
13:30By making it longer, I think we'll retain more elegance.
13:32Thank goodness we've got another five rolls of wallpaper.
13:38After a few late nights, the kitchen walls are beginning to take on a style of their own.
13:45I think it's going to be a really nice feature.
13:48I'll be even happier when we actually get them finished completely by putting the beading right around them,
13:54to actually make them look more like actual panels.
13:58I think they're going to look great.
13:59Today, however, they have a more pressing task.
14:05Job done.
14:07As the huge kitchen balcony doors are in a state of disrepair.
14:12These doors have clearly seen better days.
14:15I want to replace the timber along the bottom and the glass and sand them and paint them.
14:21It's a tricky challenge, as the doors haven't been touched in decades.
14:27And voila.
14:28I didn't need to worry about the bottom because it all comes out.
14:41That was all my good painting.
14:43I'm stuck.
14:44Time to inspect the damage.
14:57Uh-oh.
14:59That doesn't look so great, does it?
15:01The wood is rotten.
15:02The wood has seen better days, there's no doubt.
15:04So what I think I might do...
15:06Oh dear.
15:07Cut the whole thing off right across there.
15:10Um, because that doesn't look too bad there.
15:14Uh, and then I'll position the new bit of wood on the bottom there.
15:18I love it when Phil says, it's just another little job.
15:22It's about what I expected, perhaps a little bit worse.
15:25Do you think we should look and see what the other one's like?
15:29I think it's a good idea, yeah.
15:36Okay?
15:37Okay.
15:38So this one doesn't look as bad, actually.
15:40Because this bit here is still pretty solid on both sides.
15:44It's just a bottom panel that's missing.
15:46It's had less water damage.
15:49So that's a little bit of a win?
15:51Yeah.
15:52They've made a start on restoring the French doors,
15:56but there's a long way to go before this kitchen is complete.
16:06Seven hours north, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region,
16:10Alison and Zion are just three weeks away
16:14from hosting their first ever chateau wedding.
16:18Today, start the decorations, and that's my bit.
16:22That's the creative director's bit.
16:25So I have asked my cheerful assistant here to create me a table,
16:30and then I need to work out how am I going to suspend flowers, lights,
16:35and all sorts over the table for the marriage meal.
16:39Alison has bought a metal frame online to create a table-top flower arch.
16:46I want to put two like that.
16:49Yeah.
16:51So they stay that far apart, and then two across the top,
16:54so they both stay this far apart all the way.
16:56Yeah, yeah.
16:58And then the same uprights at the other end, okay?
17:00This table is three metres.
17:02And how long is that?
17:04These are extendable.
17:06It's so cold here.
17:08Not much.
17:10You need another 40 centimetres.
17:12Oh, isn't that just typical?
17:14Okay, so what are we going to do?
17:16I got an idea.
17:19A builder by trade,
17:21Zion loves nothing more than recycling materials.
17:26This is the gazebo that we bought, and they've been blown up in the air,
17:31and it's all been bent.
17:33But it's been me as I am, building something from nothing.
17:39I kept the scrap, and now it's going to be reused.
17:44The idea is, is to have this sitting here, and basically sliding.
18:01So you have it in sections.
18:05Then it can be any size.
18:08I suppose when you grow up,
18:10and a resource is not something that you always have,
18:16just to walk into a shop and pick it up.
18:19You learn, you learn to use what you've got.
18:25While Zion conjures up an extendable support for the flower arch,
18:30Allison has started to paint the concrete base of their huge wedding urn.
18:37All the roller trays and everything are being used everywhere else.
18:44I'm stuck using a frozen chicken tray.
18:47Make, do and mend.
18:50Well, it is shadow on a shoestring.
18:53I'm thinking that that is the wrong colour.
18:57Too bright white.
18:59Needs to be more of that colour.
19:00So I'm going to go back to the drawing board, or to the paint store,
19:05and to see what I can find, and get out of the rain.
19:09Ah!
19:13I've got a wedding in three weeks!
19:15With the clock ticking, it's a hold-up they could do without,
19:19as there's still all the flowers, decorations and logistics of the big day to worry about.
19:30Three and a half hours south, at Anna and Edwards,
19:35the first trip out is planned for guests attending their event weekend.
19:39This is a test run for our new business, which is the wine tasting and gourmet,
19:47and sometimes antiquing, weekends.
19:50We're going to go off to Creon, to the market at Creon.
19:53Then we're off to Montaigne-Saint-Emilion for a wine taste,
19:57and, yeah, we should have a great day.
20:00The one blot on the horizon is a forecast of rain.
20:08Even in Drizzle, at the market,
20:11everyone is quick to take advantage of trying the local produce.
20:16Did you want to try the brie?
20:18Do you like it?
20:20Yeah, that is good.
20:22The great thing of coming to a French market is you get lots of little tasters.
20:26And it's the perfect opportunity for Anna and Edward to pick up ingredients
20:32for a gourmet dinner for the guests.
20:35I'm going to get some lard on for tonight,
20:37because Anna's making a tartiflette tonight.
20:39Anna's gone on looking for Roblochon, which is a special cheese for all the tartiflette.
20:44So, yeah, everything's going well.
20:47Everyone's kind of spread out, doing their own thing, which is perfect.
20:50Merci.
20:52We managed to find a really nice starter,
20:56some beautiful melon with a bit of pinot or pork.
21:01We haven't decided yet.
21:03Ed managed to find the lardons, so we're only missing the cheese now.
21:07And then we got tonight's meal sorted.
21:09The rain doesn't seem to be spoiling the experience either.
21:14We don't mind, do we?
21:16No.
21:18Nor stopping anyone's shopping adventure.
21:22I've just got myself a bag.
21:24I just need to go and fill it now, though.
21:26Ah, merci.
21:28Ah, merci.
21:30Delicious.
21:32Cheese is coming.
21:34Ah, merci beaucoup, au revoir.
21:35We've got everything we need.
21:38We're going to get going now to get to the wine tasting.
21:44The excursion continues 30 minutes away at Chateau Haute-Goujon.
21:49We are very pleased to welcome you here at Chateau, and we will speak to you a little about the family story.
21:57Anna's in the car doing some emails, some weddings coming up.
22:01Guests are with Valerie and Mikael, and I'm keeping my eye on the kids behind.
22:05It is obviously quite stressful when you're juggling so many different things, but, you know, that's Chateau life.
22:13And maybe we can go upstairs to have some explanation about fermentation, but...
22:19I'm currently just sorting out a bride that is getting married in ten days.
22:25Work doesn't stop.
22:27I am hoping, once I have finished, to be able to come in there and have a little bit of wine and just, like, relax for...
22:35Even if it's five minutes.
22:37It's just, I think, I'm definitely going to try and do that.
22:40We've been here before, we've done a tasting before, but it's never the same when you're in a big group.
22:56It seems to work really well, so it's a really good addition to our wine and gourmet week.
23:02Oh!
23:05Left!
23:07Right.
23:08We're all now heading back off to the Chateau, have a little bit of downtime, and then we're going to have a meal later on.
23:14And more wine.
23:16And more wine.
23:18Anna and Edward's event weekend has got off to a cracking start.
23:22Tomorrow, they will help their guests find a bargain at the local antiques fair in Bordeaux.
23:34Still to come, do Philip's measurements add up?
23:38Too long still.
23:39Two mils up?
23:40I'm going to say five mil.
23:41Too clear the ground easily, we don't have to drag on the ground.
23:44No, for sure.
23:46And will a sudden change in the weather dampen Edward and Anna's event?
23:52It's amazing.
23:53We left the Chateau, glorious sunshine.
23:5540 minutes later, it's like this.
23:56In the south of France, at Chateau de la Farre...
24:07He doesn't want to cut, Phil.
24:09...Janet and Philip are creating a huge tower suite
24:13and trying to repair original balcony doors in what will be the kitchen.
24:19Although the wood looks rotten, it's actually pretty strong still.
24:23So we've actually done quite well.
24:36We've got one, two, three decent pieces of wood to screw to as anchor points.
24:42So although it doesn't look fantastic, it'll be fine.
24:48It's really hard to look at it right now
24:50and imagine that it's going to be a completed door
24:54and look good when it's finished.
24:59That one's a good one.
25:06The total length of the door needs to know.
25:08The total length of the door.
25:11Philip trained as an electrician in Australia
25:13and is unfazed by most DIY projects.
25:18A fractional less than 2.7.
25:22Philip is clever.
25:23The trouble is, it's all in his head.
25:26So I look and I think,
25:28oh, my goodness, how is that going to work?
25:31And he says, it's in my head, I know.
25:33And actually, it always works.
25:37Well, mostly always.
25:46A bit of sanding and that will be fine.
25:48So we're going to try it in now.
25:50That's on that side, is it?
25:51Yeah.
25:52OK.
25:59Too long still.
26:00So, actually, we need quite a bit off the bottom
26:02because it's actually solid on the floor.
26:04Yeah.
26:05Yep.
26:06So, what?
26:07Two mils up or what?
26:08Oh, more than that.
26:09I'm going to say five mil.
26:11Wow.
26:12We want it to clear the ground easily.
26:14We don't have to drag on the ground.
26:15No, for sure.
26:16Now, once it's in, I'm going to try and slot it in here, right?
26:40Push the bottom in.
26:41Right, it's in.
26:42Oh, my God, it's in.
26:43It's in.
26:52Then, just see if it works.
26:54OK.
26:55Moment of truth.
26:59Perfect.
27:00Good on you, Phil.
27:01Let's just push it all the way back.
27:06Perfect.
27:07Look at that.
27:08Perfect.
27:09Brilliant, actually.
27:10Yep, that's very good.
27:11That's very good.
27:12Can you believe, from the derelict door that it was, what it is now?
27:19OK.
27:21Well, that's one down and one more to go.
27:24It's a good start, but with another door to rebuild and paint, the kitchen walls to finish, and the whole room to fully furnish, Janet and Philip are not on the home straight just yet.
27:41Six hours away in southwest France, Anna and Edward continue their first ever event weekend.
27:54On a market trip and wine tasting, they are taking guests to an antiques fair in Bordeaux.
28:02All right, guys.
28:03Welcome to Cancance.
28:04Most people will speak English, but it's always nice to try and haggle a bit on the prices, yeah?
28:09This brocante has around 200 stalls.
28:14He always has good chandeliers.
28:16Offering everything from garments to glassware.
28:20This is all kind of part of our experience on this antiquey weekend, is where we actually go and help people, whether it be translation or whether it be actually advising them on what we think they should buy.
28:33I love a bargain, and I love negotiating, so I think it's right up my alley.
28:47Having taken everyone to a favourite stall, it's not long before Anna swings into action.
28:54Why not?
28:55You might have to give him a kiss on the cheek.
28:58We just did our first sale.
29:03There we go, Diane.
29:05If Diane wasn't getting it for his wife, I was going to get it for myself.
29:09And how beautiful is that?
29:12She's embarrassing.
29:13Is that why ruthless?
29:14Sometimes I have to turn away.
29:16I'm like, oh, my God, no, she didn't just say that price, did she?
29:19But, yeah, no, she's great at negotiating, and we always get a great deal.
29:24Guest Nancy wants their help finding a tapestry.
29:29So you prefer when it's a little bit more colour left in?
29:32Yes.
29:33Oh, it's lovely with the castle in the background.
29:36It's actually about the size I'm looking for.
29:39What is the price?
29:41300.
29:42300 euros.
29:43Anybody else want a tapestry?
29:45We can still have a think.
29:47It's a thought.
29:48I am wanting more colourful.
29:50So I'd like to look and see if there's something a little brighter.
29:56It's amazing.
29:57We left the chateau, glorious sunshine.
30:0040 minutes later, it's like this.
30:04I'm not so sure it's going to affect the enjoyment that much.
30:06OK, it's very heavy now, but give it 20 minutes,
30:09it's probably going to pass over, and there'll be sunshine again.
30:12I've seen something that is absolutely stunning.
30:21The price of the pair is 3,900 euros.
30:27But I actually...
30:29You know what, Ama?
30:31There are pieces that you can dream of.
30:33OK, well, I can just admire it with my eyes.
30:37I love those.
30:40The Saint Louis crystal, which is obviously a French crystal.
30:44Ah, if there's something I was going to go for, it'd be those glasses there.
30:48They're very pretty.
30:50We'll go down to 300.
30:55Anna goes into haggle mode.
30:58The six vases, my little Alex, the Saint Louis.
31:01What price are you...
31:03Nancy?
31:04300.
31:05He's doing them for the price he bought them for you.
31:10They're very beautiful.
31:11I got a no-mark-up deal, which is fantastic.
31:15Anna scoops up one last bargain.
31:18Six glasses for 150 euros.
31:23Beautiful Marana flutes.
31:25How beautiful.
31:26And we can have a drink tonight with these.
31:34Yes, beautiful buys.
31:36I mean, I was in love with them.
31:38And I'm so glad that Nancy found something so beautiful.
31:43Still a busy day ahead.
31:45We still have the meal for tonight to get ready.
31:48And the chateau to look all pretty.
31:51The antique market has gone down well with the guests.
31:56Now, there's just a gourmet supper to prepare.
32:01Three and a half hours north at Chateau de la Boutiniere, Alison and Zion are getting ready for their first ever wedding.
32:14And Alison has decided to mix another shade of paint for the base of the huge urns she intends filling with flowers.
32:24I feel like a real artist now.
32:25These are pigment paints just found in the basement.
32:27This one is a lovely green, but they are very strong, so it could go horribly wrong.
32:32Oh!
32:33Three drips.
32:34That could be disastrous.
32:36Here we go.
32:37She's hoping for more of a stone colour.
32:41I'm quite pleased with that.
32:45And uses a darker pigment to create a weather defect.
32:52I went to college, evening college, and did a marbling course many, many moons ago.
32:58So I'm trying to remember what I was told by my teacher.
33:01I want a little bit more depth to the corners.
33:06This is how you make it look more natural.
33:10Looks all right, doesn't it?
33:13Off we go!
33:15Zion has been busy too, finishing off welding the frame for Alison's table-top wedding arch.
33:23Oh, my word!
33:25So you're dead from exhaustion this time, are you?
33:28From working so hard, babes, this is amazing.
33:31This is exactly what I wanted.
33:33You can extend or make it short.
33:36You are a genius.
33:38You know what I mean?
33:41That's really brilliant.
33:43That is really solid too, isn't it?
33:45See, I can twiddle my ivy up here and over and round and...
33:51Brilliant.
33:52Thank you so much.
33:53Oh...
33:54Seriously, that's just exactly what I wanted.
33:58You are a star.
34:00Using recycled materials, Zion has created a metal frame for Alison's wedding arrangement.
34:08We're going to have the family sitting there.
34:11Roses, flowers, leaves, lights, twinkling, and a beautiful set-up on the table.
34:19It's going to look amazing.
34:21Ziong now needs to tackle another massive job.
34:30Spray-painting the chateau's shutters.
34:33It's just magic.
34:35Even using the spray gun, it's a painstaking task.
34:40It's very important to paint with a very, very thin coat of paint.
34:47Especially top coat.
34:49Then you can do a few layers and it doesn't run.
34:59Wow.
35:00Only...
35:01Only about 80 to go.
35:0680 more.
35:09Painful.
35:10Never mind.
35:11It looks good.
35:12It's worth it.
35:16Meanwhile, inside the chateau, Alison is having fun bringing the wedding arch to life with a flurry of everlasting flowers.
35:25Zion likes to make things.
35:27His nature is to solve problems.
35:29That's his engineering background.
35:31He likes nothing more than welding.
35:35The plan is to go for the sort of greenhouse look, conservatory look, and just drape wildly all these flowers.
35:45There's another little one of those.
35:46Look, we've got a matching one of those.
35:48I like to fill this little corner here.
35:50They're so pretty.
35:55Wow.
35:56That looks amazing.
35:57Seriously?
35:58It's worth every bit of my hard work, I tell you.
36:02Seriously, all that metal frame and to think that that's what you've done to it.
36:06It's amazing.
36:07Seriously.
36:08So you really like it?
36:09Yeah.
36:10Yeah.
36:11Good.
36:12Excellent.
36:14Alison and Zion have made big strides towards getting the chateau wedding ready.
36:20But with their first ceremony a matter of weeks away, there's a lot of work still to be done.
36:29Coming up, can Edward convince his guests with a unique canapé?
36:34Not everyone's cup of tea.
36:36This is black pudding.
36:37Yeah, we put it with some caramelised onion and some pine nuts.
36:40And Janet and Philip face more dirty work.
36:44A combination of bat poo and spider webs and...
36:49To try and complete their tower suite kitchen.
36:52So you've got my side on, you've got your side on.
36:54Got it on now.
36:55Phew.
36:56It should be great.
36:57Guests of Edward and Anna's event weekend are looking forward to a slap-up gourmet meal.
37:14Black pudding's not for everyone, but they're all a bit kind of open-minded, so I think they
37:19will actually give it a go.
37:21And don't forget I'm cooking it, sir.
37:26Perfectionist Anna sets the table to impress.
37:31More and more people do want to come for other things than weddings here at the chateau.
37:36So it's nice and wise to diversify.
37:40Also, with this kind of event, it's easier for the family and that work-life balance.
37:45And, well, it gives me a bit more time to just enjoy it.
37:50So the French call something like this place a golden prison.
37:54So it's kind of everybody's dream to be here.
37:57But actually, the work is so intense that people are like, how are you managing? How?
38:03Well.
38:04But we've been here a long time and, you know, we wouldn't still be here if we didn't love
38:08what we were doing and we didn't love our lifestyle.
38:15The glasses, which Anna bought at the antiques market, are put straight to use.
38:21That's going to go on the table, add a pop of colour and it's going to look beautiful.
38:27If this trial weekend for six guests is a success, they hope to extend numbers soon.
38:34Anna's gone out with the easy canapés.
38:37I'm going to bring the hard canapé out, which is the boudin.
38:40Not everyone's cup of tea.
38:42Would you like some boudin?
38:49Oh, lovely.
38:50Grassless.
38:51So...
38:52This is black pudding.
38:53Yeah, we put it with some caramelised onion and some pine nuts.
38:56Mmm.
38:57Lovely.
38:58Thanks.
38:59Everybody's tasted it and they all seem to have liked it.
39:03Do another tour, I think.
39:04It's time to sit down for a feast of sous vide chicken.
39:14It's been amazing, hasn't it?
39:15It's been fantastic.
39:16Absolutely brilliant.
39:17Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
39:19A little bit hot.
39:23Anna and Edward have been quite amazing and it has been fantastic.
39:27They really have been there for the meals, shopping, the wine tasting.
39:32They are there with you the whole time and that is pretty cool.
39:37It's been very long days.
39:39Hard work.
39:40Mmm-hmm.
39:41We still talk to each other.
39:43Yeah.
39:44We've had their moments.
39:45If we have the time to talk to each other, it's not really been the case.
39:51Eddie and Anna as hosts have been tremendous.
39:54They do it with great grace.
39:56They're very, very good people and it's very much a family affair.
40:02Overall, knowing it was our first one, we think it went really well.
40:07Everybody seemed to buy lots at the market, buy lots at the antique fair, eat all the plates up, drink all the wine.
40:16What else do you want, really, in a wine gourmet and antiquing weekend?
40:21With the success of their first ever event weekend, Anna and Edward can rest assured they have another way of bringing in business to the Chateau.
40:34Over five hours away in the south of France, Janet and Philip's tower suite kitchen is almost complete.
40:48I think all's good.
40:50The border makes a huge difference.
40:53Absolutely.
40:54It just highlights it and brings your eye to it.
40:57The wallpaper panels are now all up and the huge French doors have finally been restored.
41:05I think it's looking fantastic.
41:08Doors that actually are in one piece are not rotten and broken and we've got glass in them.
41:14All we have to do now is actually the fun bits of actually dressing it.
41:20To finish off the room, Janet and Philip are heading to the attic, which is an Aladdin's cave of antique furniture.
41:33Yeah.
41:35Yeah, that looked good.
41:37We are very lucky having such a large building because if we see things when we're out at carboots,
41:43which might be of use later on and they're the right price, we normally buy it and we stash it here.
41:49We can't help it.
41:54We love collecting furniture because you never know what you might need next.
41:59But this has been sitting a while and combination of bat poo and spider webs and...
42:06Oh, it's delicious.
42:14I just think underneath the dust and the cobwebs,
42:18I know it's a lovely old little pine desk and I think it's worth waxing up and reusing.
42:29With the furnishings chosen, they just need putting into place.
42:33I think this little desk is going to come up a treat, just with one bath and a wipe over.
42:44Yeah.
42:45Looks good there, I think.
42:47Ugh.
42:48See, I've got my side on, you've got your side on.
42:49I've got it on now.
42:50You've got yours on?
42:51Yes.
42:52Sure.
42:53Hmm.
42:54Hi, it looks good.
42:55Yeah.
42:56Hey, it looks great.
42:57Four months ago, this space was a derelict dumping ground filled with nothing more than junk and old tools.
43:08Now, it's been transformed into a chic and stylish kitchen, complete with lavish dining area.
43:23By upcycling furniture and creating a dresser, they've given the room its charm and character, and the freshly waxed pine desk takes pride of place.
43:42The addition of wallpaper panels, tasteful decor, and newly renovated balcony doors gives the space its elegant grandeur.
44:02The room looks great.
44:04All the little things we planned, how we wanted it to look, have been successful.
44:10You know, there's lots of things in this area we've done that I really love.
44:14But I have to say, the thing that most gives me joy is my French doors.
44:19They look fantastic.
44:21It's not just a kitchen.
44:23It is a beautiful, elegant room.
44:26I mean, it's a dining space, it's a relaxing space.
44:30I just think it's got elegance about it, and I love that.
44:34It's been a huge success.
44:37But Janet and Philip can't rest on their laurels, as they still have a salon to build and a second bedroom to create before their huge tower suite is ready for guests.
44:52Next time, there's decor debate.
45:01Well, that's your side and that's my side.
45:03I'm just going to say, that's your side, yeah.
45:05Moody.
45:07A bathroom blockage.
45:09Nothing's coming through.
45:11Who said buy a chateau?
45:13Nothing's ever easy.
45:14And ruffled feathers.
45:16Hopefully, we look like swans on the top of the water and our little legs are peddling like mad at the bottom.
45:22I'd have to go for you guys like הסom.
45:24I know.
45:25I also hope but not to work with three lads in the capuit Insurance bukuernen.
45:27I'm going to talk about the bottom of the obey vielmeans outside the fruit house.
45:29I'll take it one أو un demande.
45:31Then I'll kind the one as Ciao a moment.
45:33I know so much about all things that are fora of order.
45:36I'm going to go for you.
45:37We only fit the extracts in the kind of papier city, and I'll come to Nursie, but we'll turn off to New Oxide.
