00:00And now, the series premiere of Project Runway All-Stars.
00:03Wow.
00:04The most daring, controversial designers have returned.
00:07My God, I cannot believe I'm back here.
00:09It's the best versus the best.
00:11I'm the greatest star of them all.
00:13Game on.
00:14This is you against me.
00:15You want to play like that?
00:16I'm going to kick ass.
00:17As they compete again for the biggest prize in runway history.
00:20A staggering half a million dollars.
00:23They'll be judged by a new panel of fashion experts.
00:26Hello, people.
00:27I love the new judges.
00:28Hi, designers.
00:30I'm a fan.
00:31This is a clean slate.
00:32It's time for me to redeem myself.
00:34They will rip, cut, and stitch their way through the most demanding challenges ever.
00:39The pressure is on.
00:41The battle of sheer determination begins now.
00:44Never underestimate your opponent.
00:46I'm going to snip everyone's pippy off.
00:52This is the series premiere of Project Runway All-Stars.
00:58Last time I was here, I made it all the way to the very end, and my heart was broken.
01:10I deserve to be here.
01:11But I'm only here because I'm going to win.
01:15Oh, my God.
01:16Michael!
01:17Oh!
01:19Yes!
01:20I thought you were going to be here.
01:21I knew you were going to be here.
01:22I think I'm the best designer here because my work is fashion forward, current, contemporary, and accessible.
01:28Getting that close to winning was a big deal, and that is sort of driving me.
01:34The most important thing that I learned when I was on Project Runway is to never second-guess myself.
01:39There are people who feel that I am not a fierce competitor, but honey, all I can say is you think this is a game?
01:45Let's go.
01:46I wouldn't be here if I wasn't good, and I'll leave here with my sash and an oversized tiara and all that.
01:52That's what I came for.
01:53I couldn't possibly commit to this type of experience if I didn't want to walk away with some sort of amazing and incredible prize.
02:02The first time, I wasn't so attached, but this time, I do want to win.
02:06I've always been a star.
02:08Darling, of course I have to be here.
02:11Someone had to put the star in All-Star.
02:17Sometimes I can come across as really stocked up, snobby, and just rude.
02:23But screw everybody else and do what you love.
02:26I'm totally fine with it.
02:28I will be competitive.
02:30Hey, Jarrell, how are you?
02:32How are you?
02:33Good to see you.
02:34Good to see you.
02:34You look cute.
02:35What's going on?
02:35You're not working.
02:41I've heard some stories about Limelight, that it was a club, and now it's been turned into a shopping center.
02:46So I'm really kind of looking forward to going in there.
02:47You're up against the most talented, and you know what they can do because you've seen it on the show.
02:53Hey, oh my God.
02:55Goodness me.
02:55I'm kind of checking to see who is my competition, and there is Sweet Pea and Mondo.
03:00And I'm like, oh, oh, here it goes.
03:03Oh my God, is that Mondo with the high-top belt?
03:05Oh my God.
03:06It's exciting.
03:07All of us are here.
03:09It's on.
03:09Hello, designers.
03:20Hello.
03:22I'm Angela Lindvall.
03:23Welcome back to New York.
03:25Hi, Angela.
03:27Angela Lindvall is actually one of the most versatile models.
03:30She's done print, runway, swimwear.
03:33She's worked for all of the top designers.
03:36Angela is beautiful.
03:37I think she's a fantastic model.
03:39Easy on the eyes.
03:40I'm excited that it's going to be somebody new, a new perspective.
03:44Welcome to Project Runway All-Stars.
03:47Thanks.
03:48Over the next three months, this competition will showcase your skills in weekly challenges.
03:54As All-Stars, there will be no immunity.
03:57At the end of each challenge, one of you will be eliminated.
04:01And the rest will be one step closer to the grand prize.
04:05Do you want to know what it is?
04:06Yeah.
04:07Help, help, help.
04:08You are competing for the biggest prize in Project Runway history.
04:12The overall winning designer will receive the ultimate goal in fashion.
04:17Their own exclusive batik featuring their designs in select Neiman Marcus stores and neimanmarcus.com.
04:25Woohoo!
04:25Amazing to sell in Neiman Marcus your collection as a designer.
04:30That's every designer's dream, naturally.
04:32The winning designer will receive not only a fashion-spreaded Marie Claire magazine, but also a position as guest editor for one year.
04:41I'd kill to be the guest editor at Marie Claire because I really believe that those are one of those experiences that are priceless.
04:53And there's more industrial sewing machines, fabric printers, sergers, and other equipment, all provided by brothers.
05:02Wow.
05:02And $100,000 in technology and office space from HP and Intel.
05:09Wow.
05:09Wow.
05:09And a cash prize of $100,000 courtesy of L'Oreal Paris.
05:19That's a lot of prizes.
05:20Every single prize that was named was something that was like on my wish list to Santa to propel my business and propel my career.
05:28This total prize package is worth close to a staggering half a million dollars.
05:36What a bad start.
05:39So we all know that you've been judged before.
05:42Maybe they had it right.
05:43Maybe they had it wrong.
05:44They were wrong.
05:45I am fabulous.
05:47I'm awesome.
05:48I'm talented.
05:49I demand satisfaction.
05:51The good news is this is a clean slate.
05:55So are you ready to meet our new judges?
05:57Yes.
05:57Yes.
05:57Yes.
05:58People are just on the edge of their seat, you know.
06:01It's a new host, new judges.
06:03You never know what you're going to get.
06:04I know what the old judges were looking for, and I knew what they were, you know, the protocol and what they like and all the...
06:09Honey, I have no clue about these new people, so I'm going to keep one eye open.
06:14First, please welcome the designer and co-founder of Marquesa, Georgina Chapman.
06:20Woo!
06:22Hi, designers.
06:24Hi.
06:25Georgina Chapman is one of our judges, so I'm absolutely thrilled.
06:30You always see the most beautiful dresses on the red carpets are always Marquesa, so to have her as a judge is just really inspiring.
06:38And also, we have one of the most famous names in fashion.
06:42I'm Isaac Mizrahi.
06:44Woo-hoo!
06:45Yay!
06:46Hello, people.
06:49How are you?
06:50Hi.
06:51Hello.
06:52I greatly respect Isaac Mizrahi.
06:56Through his work, his reinvention of himself, I have constantly been inspired by over the years, and really respect him as a creator.
07:05Georgina and Isaac and I are excited to see what you've accomplished since the last time you were here.
07:10I do feel like I've grown a lot since the last time I was on this show, so I've got all sorts of new tricks up my sleeve that I plan to razzle dazzle with.
07:16We asked you to bring a recent creation that you think represents who you are as a designer.
07:22The models are waiting for you backstage.
07:24You'll have just 30 minutes to dress them before returning to the runway for our first ever All Stars Fashion Show.
07:31Woo!
07:33So good luck!
07:34You're good!
07:35You're so good!
07:36You're so good!
07:37Finally, it's time for me to redeem myself.
07:38To lock it up.
07:40My main competition here is Cara Jenks.
07:41I loved her collection that she did for her season.
07:42I thought it should have won, but I really like her as a person, too, so I don't want her to go, but better than me, right?
07:58Sweet Pea, I think, is phenomenal.
08:01And I think Rami's the absolute best, and I think he's my biggest competition because he's a draper.
08:07This was inspired by the Disney Concert Hall building in Los Angeles.
08:10As much as I was known for draping, there are also other things that I do very well.
08:14So as you walk out, you can literally open like a flower.
08:18Jam them in there.
08:19I like it.
08:20Okay, guys, we gotta go to runway.
08:22You ready to go?
08:23Oh my God, here we go again.
08:25I'm completely panicked.
08:28Coming up on Project Runway All-Stars.
08:31Are you ready for your first challenge?
08:33Oh, God.
08:34There is an All-Stars twist.
08:35I'm terrified.
08:37I'm super excited to show the judges who I am as a designer at the fashion show.
08:47We asked you to bring a recent creation that you think represents who you are as a designer.
08:53Georgina and Isaac and I are excited to see what you've accomplished since the last time you were here.
08:57So let's get started.
08:59I'm not intimidated by anyone.
09:02Your biggest competition is you.
09:04I just have to do work that I think is the best that I can do.
09:07For All-Stars, I feel more confident as a designer and I have the tools that I need to do better this time.
09:14I'm a freak about fit and construction.
09:18I'm here to represent me as a designer and do what I do best.
09:22We're born naked, but as humans, it's our nature to embellish oneself, to beautify ourselves.
09:29And I just take that to the highest level possible.
09:32I am an artist and a maker by nature.
09:36So I approach designing organically.
09:38I approach it as a way of life.
09:41I came to this country with nothing but the clothes on my back.
09:45I'm here fighting for my business just like everybody else.
09:49My fabrics are always really high class fabrics.
09:52I love doing couture because it's almost like you are sculpting.
09:57I brought something that's a little bit more toned down version of me, a little bit more ready to wear.
10:03It's the softer side of me.
10:05It is my desire to make the world a beautiful and a better place, one gown at a time.
10:10My model, she's making me question my sexuality right now.
10:14She really brought that dress to life.
10:16I want to stick around as long as I can.
10:19This is really a new era for me.
10:22I really want to push my own boundaries.
10:27Well, guys, that was a great start to the season.
10:30Thank you. Thank you very much.
10:32Georgina, what did you think?
10:33Congratulations, designers. That was really great.
10:36I'm just so excited to see what you guys are going to do next.
10:39Thank you very much.
10:40Isaac?
10:41So diverse, 13 specific points of view.
10:44This is going to be a great competition, I can tell.
10:47But for now, you're going to head off to your penthouse suite at the Flat Hotel New York.
10:53And I will see you guys on location for your first all-stars challenge.
11:00Have a good night.
11:02Good night.
11:08Ooh, what's this?
11:10Nice.
11:11Wow.
11:12This is cute.
11:13Oh, my God.
11:14What does she like?
11:15I want to say, oh.
11:17I did jump on a couple of beds just to see if they felt right.
11:20Kind of like Goldilocks.
11:21Oh, my gosh.
11:22She marked her bed with her lipstick.
11:23What is that?
11:24I put a kiss on my bed.
11:25This is my bed.
11:26I thought it was kind of funny that Elisa, who normally likes to spit on her clothes for a mark, is marking her bed with a kiss.
11:36It's my bed.
11:37Hey, there's a note.
11:38It says press play and there's a control.
11:40Okay.
11:41I'm like looking around that whole room trying to see what am I going to grab to rip apart and make a dress out of or something out of.
11:47Here we go.
11:48I'm Giancarlo Gemetti.
11:50Oh.
11:51Oh.
11:52There is Giancarlo Gemetti, who I instantly recognize as Valentino's partner.
11:59Something terribly important for me and very, very dear to Valentino, the new Valentino Virtual Museum, where you can visit all his work online.
12:10Project Runway All Stars.
12:13Holy .
12:14I wish to you lots of success.
12:18You have lots of talent and try to make beautiful clothes.
12:23Clothes, then they speak, and they are beautiful to see them in the runway.
12:31Miranda.
12:32Miranda.
12:33Miranda.
12:34Miranda.
12:35Miranda!
12:36.
12:38Just those one sentence, when he said, you, Project Runway All Stars.
12:41I'm like, OMG, and I am one of them.
12:42Let's celebrate.
12:44Woo!
12:45Y'all know from the Project, I thought y'all was shooting.
12:50Right.
12:51Valentino, the All Stars, and…
12:54It's a beautiful flexibility.
13:10Good morning, you guys.
13:11Good morning, Angela.
13:13Are you ready for your first challenge?
13:15Yes.
13:16This is the challenge that the designers love to hate,
13:20but the fans love.
13:22You guessed it, the unconventional challenge.
13:26As all-star designers,
13:28you've got to be versatile with materials.
13:30So, we've given you one of the most versatile stores in America,
13:35the 99 cent store.
13:38Austin, you did the very first unconventional challenge
13:41and you won.
13:42Yes, I remember the very first episode of Project Runway ever.
13:46So the pressure's on, Austin.
13:48I know. Oh, gosh.
13:49Oh, gosh.
13:51Okay, we want you to design something fabulous
13:53from whatever you can find inside 99 cent creation.
13:56But there is an all-stars twist.
13:59Your look must be inspired in some way by your look
14:04that you presented at the fashion show.
14:06Oh, my God.
14:07Had I known my 99 cent dress had to reflect the first design I showed,
14:13I might have brought something a little different.
14:15This may be the 99 cent store, but don't worry.
14:18We're not only going to give you a dollar.
14:20You're all-stars.
14:21We're going to give you a hundred dollars to make your look.
14:23So, remember, this is all about innovation.
14:25So, push yourself.
14:26We really want you to wow us.
14:28Okay.
14:29Your 99 cent unconventional challenge starts now.
14:35Oh, my God.
14:36The challenge for me is that I am trying to make something
14:39look like ex luxurious from the 99 cent store,
14:42and I'm not exactly sure how to attack that challenge.
14:45Lord, please let me grow.
14:46Oh, I'm about to bring down the light.
14:48Okay, I'll come back for that.
14:49I want to create something that has a lot of texture.
14:52That's why I chose the mops.
14:54So, I needed, like, a cluster of mops.
14:56So, I just grabbed all the black and white ones I could
14:59because it was the only color that the store had a large amount of.
15:03I've always been inspired by these.
15:05I don't know why.
15:08Guys, you have ten minutes left.
15:11Oh.
15:12Oh.
15:13I have never been this high in my life.
15:17Crazy.
15:18I feel like I have no more room.
15:19So, I'm really looking for bright colors.
15:21I see belts that are green and orange and dish towels.
15:25So, anything I see that's bright, I just run towards.
15:28Can someone hand me that finger paint right here?
15:30Everybody, you've got five minutes left.
15:34Excuse me, right behind you?
15:36Anyone walking in the store?
15:38I really wanted to stay away from predictable materials,
15:42like washcloth.
15:43Okay, guys, time's up.
15:45I need another bag.
15:46Everybody, come on to the front.
15:48We're in line.
15:49We're in line.
15:51I was completely blown away when, long behold, April's got the exact same thing that I'm doing.
15:58She's making something out of the mop heads.
15:59Tell me how much that is.
16:00Okay.
16:01For the first challenge, the inspiration is the look that we brought to the limelight.
16:05Even though me and Michael both purchased mops, there's no way that we'll make the same dress.
16:10We don't have the same aesthetic whatsoever.
16:12I'm really worried that April's dress is going to kick my dress's ass, because she's, like, really good.
16:17I'm terrified.
16:18Coming up on Project Runway All Stars.
16:20Jordana's look.
16:21It's a pinata.
16:22What are you doing?
16:23That's weird.
16:24Ten minutes to the runway.
16:25Oh, my God.
16:26No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
16:27Oh, my God.
16:28Where am I?
16:29Oh, I love this.
16:30We open the door and we see a really beautiful work room.
16:46It has all these different color squares.
16:48It's like a color wheel.
16:49I love my space.
16:50How are you?
16:51Walking into the work room is almost a little bit overwhelming and kind of, like, entering
16:57through the gates of hell, but also a good opportunity at the same time.
17:01I love this room.
17:02Thank you for this room.
17:04Hey, guys.
17:05Hi.
17:06Hi.
17:07Welcome to 1407 Broadway.
17:09So, how do you like your new workspace?
17:11It's fantastic.
17:12At each of your workstations, you're going to find HP tablets.
17:16The latest touch technology from HP and Intel will help you sketch and elevate your creativity
17:22throughout the weekly challenges.
17:24And I'm sure you won't forget to use the Neiman Marcus accessory wall.
17:29There's some amazing pieces there, right?
17:31Yes, there are.
17:32So, later today, you're going to have your first mentor session with editor-in-chief of
17:36Mary Claire Magazine, Joanna Coles.
17:38I was very happy to find out that our mentor was Joanna Coles.
17:43Just her take on fashion is really important because she's an editor of a magazine and ultimately
17:48that's who you want to impress as a designer.
17:51So, you guys have until 10 p.m. tonight to work on your looks and then a couple of hours
17:56tomorrow before your first runway.
17:58I wish you guys all a lot of luck and I'll see you on the runway.
18:02Bye.
18:04She's pretty.
18:05Damn.
18:06Elisa just moved her cutting mat down underneath and I'm thinking, what are you doing?
18:18That's weird.
18:19Sir, Elisa, if I ever get in your way, you let me know.
18:22Yes, sir.
18:23Elisa, she's very different.
18:24And the reason why I'm going to give her a pass on being different is because I had a grandmother
18:28who was committed to the crazy house.
18:30So, I really don't think that she's that far off her, honey.
18:34She's something else.
18:37Right now, I got all these mop pieces that I'm trying to sew one individually piece by piece to create like this drapey effect thing that has to do somewhat with the draping of my other dress.
18:53Wait, wait, wait.
18:54But April's dress, it looks just like what you're doing.
18:58It looks the same.
19:02The strings hanging straight down.
19:04That's exactly what you're doing.
19:06Y'all need to have a woman-to-woman talk.
19:09Y'all need to get on the same page.
19:11Or off the same page, as the case may be.
19:19Hi, guys.
19:20Hi.
19:21Everyone knows Marie Claire Magazine, so to have the editor-in-chief, Joanna Coles, here as our mentor,
19:27is amazing.
19:28I know you're all super talented.
19:30I know your various skills.
19:32And I'm here to help you push yourself so that you walk out of here with that $500,000 package.
19:39And, of course, one of you, on top of this incredible prize, is going to be a guest editor at Marie Claire.
19:46And I couldn't be more excited.
19:48So, good luck to everybody.
19:50Okay, Sweet Pea.
19:51What are these?
19:52These towels?
19:53Yes.
19:54Right, okay.
19:55Anything that will surprise the judges, that they'll think, oh, my goodness, Sweet Pea found that.
20:00That's incredible.
20:01I would never have thought of doing that.
20:04Um...
20:08You've got Isaac as a judge.
20:10He's going to be on you.
20:11I know.
20:12I'm just reminding you, your job here is to really surprise them.
20:17All right.
20:18Good luck.
20:19Thank you so much.
20:20Sweet Pea's dress.
20:21It's raggedy ruffles.
20:22That's no good.
20:23Me nor likey.
20:25Jordana.
20:26Hi.
20:27Hi.
20:28It's nice to meet you.
20:29It's a pleasure to have you as our mentor.
20:32This dress is all about movement.
20:34And I can see this is going to be about movement too.
20:36Exactly.
20:37When she starts walking down the runway, it's going to be very in front.
20:39And then I knew that I wanted to create a shorter version, kind of like inspired by the dress, obviously.
20:46I think this is one of those dresses that you sometimes see in stores which has no appeal on the hanger.
20:51And then you see it on the wearer and it comes to life.
20:54Exactly.
20:55Jordana's look, it's made of streamers.
20:58It reminds me of Easter at a Mexican family's house.
21:02It's a pinata.
21:03I hope her model is full of candy.
21:06Mondo, how are you doing?
21:08I don't know if I'm in the competitive mood yet.
21:11And what's it going to take you to get in that competitive frame of mind?
21:15I guess get through this challenge, finish something and be proud of it, you know.
21:19This is fascinating.
21:20I can't wait to see your outfit.
21:23I did have this little gleam of light after I talked to Joanna that, yes, you know, this is another opportunity.
21:29And this is possibly going to be the thing that allows me to flourish.
21:36You're not going to spit at me, are you?
21:38No, it's actually a blessing mark.
21:40You do it simply with your tongue.
21:41I've been doing this for 17, 18 years and my clients actually pay me for my book.
21:44They do?
21:45Yes, they do.
21:46That's pretty cool.
21:47Tell me what you found in the 99th store.
21:50I went for three things.
21:51I was like, flowers, something that is light that flows when you're walking through the street, you're walking through the runway.
21:57These are the flowers.
21:58I'm not seeing much else, that's all.
22:00I mean, you've got judges there looking for surprise.
22:03Is this going to be surprising enough?
22:05Um, I actually think it's important for you to make it surprising to yourself.
22:11Okay, well, I can't wait to see it.
22:14I'm very excited to see how you pull all this together.
22:17Guys, I have to go now, but I have to tell you, I think the judges are going to have a really difficult time.
22:22I will see you soon.
22:24Bye.
22:25Bye.
22:26Good night.
22:27Bye.
22:28Bye.
22:29Oh my god.
22:30Oh no, oh my god.
22:31No, no, no, no.
22:32Is it the whole thing?
22:33Is it .
22:34Move that away right now.
22:35My glue gun melted through my whole dress.
22:49At the very last moment of the evening of our challenge,
22:54I realized that my plastic dress was touched by the hot glue gun
23:01and actually burned a hole right in the front of the gown.
23:08Can you add like a little square piece?
23:10I don't know.
23:11Hot glue guns.
23:14He was working up until the very last minute.
23:16There's a lot of stuff that's unfinished.
23:18I really feel like this is the last that we're going to see of Mr. Austin Scarlett.
23:23I don't...
23:24I have barely enough time to like get this dress even.
23:28The fact that I'm going to have to figure out some way to repair this very obvious hole
23:33right in the very front of the dress is just almost too much for me to handle right now.
23:37I'm about to pull my hair out.
23:48The day of the runway, that's actually, that's a very stressful day for us.
24:05There are so many elements you have to do the finishing touches to fit your model perfectly,
24:10to choose the right accessories, to think of hair, to think of makeup,
24:14and then go on stage and present and hope nothing falls apart.
24:19And so it's a stressful day for everybody.
24:22Now, even though I destroyed my dress on the glue gun yesterday, I'm going to...
24:26I need it.
24:27What I ended up doing was very carefully cutting out a very small patch of plastic.
24:34And luckily, it sort of all just disappeared into the shiny plastic of the dress.
24:41We need hair and makeup. Let's go.
24:47I would like to have like two little braids on each side.
24:51And down or up?
24:53Polish round and then down so it looks more modern.
24:55I like that.
24:56Welcome to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.
24:58It's all about the lip.
25:00I'd like to emphasize on her sort of cheekbones.
25:03One minute.
25:04I'd like to do a little like red eye shadow.
25:06Just young, baby doll, fresh.
25:11Oh, I love it.
25:12We got ten minutes to the runway.
25:15Where are my safety pins?
25:17Let me get the bracelet because I really want to see how it looks together.
25:20All right guys, let's go to runway.
25:27Coming up on Project Runway All Stars.
25:29We've got a few too many ideas.
25:31That's fatal.
25:32You kind of, you know, made them your bitch.
25:34I would never be seen dead in it.
25:35Goodbye.
25:45Hi designers.
25:46Hi.
25:47Welcome to your first runway.
25:51We have 13 All Star designers here.
25:54And after tonight, there will only be 12.
25:59As it's been said on Project Runway, one day you're in and the next day you're out.
26:05And that's never been more true than on All Stars.
26:08For your first challenge as All Stars, who are used to big budgets, we wanted to see how you would cope with items from a 99 cent store.
26:16Do you feel like we threw you in the deep end?
26:18The deep end.
26:19So let's meet the judges.
26:20First, we have the designer and co-founder of Marquesa, the beautiful Georgina Chapman.
26:27Hi designers.
26:28Hello.
26:29And one of the most famous names in fashion, designer Isaac Mizrahi.
26:34And our guest judge this week is somebody professionally invested in your success.
26:39He is the senior vice president and fashion director of Neiman Marcus, the fabulous Pin Downer.
26:47Have a great show.
26:55So luckily the judges did not notice the patch.
26:58My dress has a sort of flowing movement in the skirt, this sort of diaphanous layered effect.
27:04And on the runway, it's just all sort of blurred into a shimmer of beauty.
27:09I think in the unconventional challenge when my model's walking down the runway, she's looking chic, she's looking sharp, she's looking like she bought the clothes off the rack.
27:22Exactly like I expected her to look.
27:25I think my model looks amazing.
27:30The fact that I was able to pull that out of the 99 cent store from cheap ass handkerchiefs, fantastic.
27:35Watching my outfit walk down the runway is the same sort of enchanted, humbling process that has happened probably every time something comes to life, if you're really, really lucky.
27:54This time, it's even a little bit more special because I really swore that I would make high art.
28:01This is so pretty.
28:02As I see my model walk down the runway, I think that bitch is owning it.
28:06She looks amazing.
28:07She looks rich.
28:09She looks fierce.
28:11She's a diva.
28:12She's got her glasses on, her bag, her jacket, her skirt.
28:15And nobody can with her.
28:21My dress looks colorful, yet tough.
28:24I'm pretty excited because I love my dress and I feel like it's me.
28:29I love seeing my work come to life.
28:33That moment when the model walks down the runway, it reminds me of my sixth birthday, Christmas.
28:40It's just pure joy when I see my model wearing my work.
28:44I think that it's a really good gown to represent what I do, to represent how I've grown as a designer.
28:55I think she looks really beautiful in it.
28:57I think it's exactly me.
29:01It's a little bit edgy, but it has the flowing and feminine feeling to it.
29:06I love my design because I feel it's a little bit different than anybody else's.
29:12But you never know with judges.
29:14It could be hit or miss.
29:20I think to myself, please don't let any of the tissue rip.
29:24And Lord, please don't let one of those gold safety pins fall.
29:29I do with this dress what I've been doing my whole life.
29:32Taking a whole little of nothing and turning into a whole lot of something.
29:35I see my model working it down the runway in my look and I think it looks great.
29:45I thought she looked absolutely awesome.
29:47I'm hoping that those mop strings don't pop because some of them are glued together, but she looks beautiful.
29:52I want to go somewhere with her and get a drink and spill something on her dress and watch her soak it up.
29:58I think the design is avant-garde.
30:04I think it's different.
30:05It's got texture.
30:06It's long.
30:07I was so nervous seeing April's dress come down the runway because it was shockingly gorgeous.
30:12They're going to say, well, Michael, April, you used the mops way better than you did.
30:18Okay, designers, if I call your name, please step forward.
30:22Austin, Mila, April, Anthony, Cara, Kenley, Michael.
30:35Congratulations.
30:36You are all safe.
30:41Your designs will keep you in the competition and you may leave the runway.
30:45Goodbye.
30:48You all have the highest and the lowest scoring designs.
30:51One of you will be named this week's winner and one of you will be going home.
30:56Let's bring out your models.
31:01So Rami, you're first.
31:03Rami, I really felt you've given a great silhouette here.
31:06What have you made that out of?
31:08Laundry bags.
31:11So I used that as the tweed almost.
31:13I wanted to resemble that.
31:15The tinsel from Christmas decorations to emulate the ostrich feathers.
31:18And here I used the umbrella lining to sort of create the tie in the blacks all together.
31:25I think you have an edge over the other designers in terms of execution.
31:29You mastered all of these elements.
31:30You kind of, you know, made them your, your bitch.
31:33You could photograph this, you could put it in an editorial in a magazine and no one would have any idea that those are umbrella parts and something that came out of a 99 cent store.
31:45That's a huge compliment. Thank you so much.
31:47It looks like a woman that's walked off the Paris runway.
31:49So job well done.
31:51Sweet Pea.
31:52Hi.
31:53Can you tell us a little bit about your dress?
31:54I really have been feeling color and I do like mixing the hard and the soft.
32:00Kind of the sweet feminine with a little touch of edginess.
32:03I don't know how resolved this is.
32:05It looks a little ragged to me.
32:06It looks a little unfinished, you know.
32:09It's especially unresolved in the back there.
32:11Yeah, that's really, that's really, I like a cut out, I do.
32:15But for some reason that just looks like a chew out, not a cut out.
32:19Women never come to me and ask for something that's going to make them look bigger than they already are.
32:25If you're gonna go with something graphic, colorful and color blocking like that, it does have to be very precise.
32:31What made you choose the washcloths as your fabric?
32:35I would never own or wear a terrycloth dress, but it was the color that stood out to me.
32:40Thank you, Sweet Pea.
32:41Moving on to Jor-El.
32:43Georgina, what are your thoughts on Jor-El's dress?
32:46It moved really beautifully.
32:48I thought this was a very wearable look.
32:50I can imagine a girl wearing this and I think that's a very difficult thing to achieve from a 99 cent store.
32:57I like the color of it a lot. I like that it's an alternative to neutral.
33:00I love that you really have taken the idea of this trend of the moment of the high-low hemline and really exploited it in a great way.
33:06Thank you so much, Jor-El.
33:07We're gonna move on now to Elisa.
33:11Personally, this isn't a look that I immediately respond to, but I want to know more about your use of writing.
33:18I do a lot with sacred geometry, so there was a lot of like, it's half of 360, it's 180 degrees.
33:24So I wanted to try to keep the whole circle half thing going so you don't have to know the story.
33:29But if you read the story on this sleeve, you read it on that sleeve, it's a good story.
33:32If you read it all together, you know the whole story.
33:35I love the spirit of this. It looks like you. It looks like someone really passionate did it.
33:38I love clothes that tell me the story the minute they hit the runway, because as soon as clothes have directions, they stay on the rack.
33:46So Mondo, can you tell us a little bit about your 99 cent unconventional dress?
33:50What I used to create this look were binders, electrical tape, these old black cowboy hats, and trash bags.
34:00Considering it's a black dress, it's a fun dress. It's not that serious, which I think is nice.
34:05I think the dress is flawlessly executed and I think it's truly your spirit.
34:10I'd love to see this dress in, shall we say, a real fabric that didn't need to be hosed down in the backyard after wearing it.
34:16You have such a great sense of proportion. That's what makes the dress, is the proportion, right?
34:20It's just snappy, the whole thing.
34:23Thank you, Mondo.
34:24So, Giordano, can you tell us about your dress?
34:27I was looking for something that had the hard and soft shapes, and this is the thing that you use to scrub pots and pans.
34:35My favorite thing is the steel wool. The texture looks so divine on the runway.
34:40I do question whether you've got a few too many ideas going on and a few too many elements.
34:46So, perhaps, you could probably spread those ideas out throughout a collection.
34:50I work so fast, and then I'm like done in two, three hours, and then I over-design.
34:57That's fatal.
34:58Yeah, I know.
34:59Thank you, Giordano.
35:00We're now going to deliberate, and we'll call you back shortly.
35:04You may leave the runway.
35:07How about our favorite looks? Why don't we start there?
35:10I think Rami had the balance. He used such an unconventional fabric, yet he pulled it off in such a chic way. It was well executed.
35:17I think Rami did an amazing job. The use of fabric, what he found in the 99 cent store that, when translated into a fashion moment, didn't look like a 99 cent store translation.
35:28The only thing for me was that the dress from yesterday and the dress from today looked so similar. I just don't want him to keep doing the same thing. Did he just refabricate his yesterday's dress?
35:38I feel like he went outside of the box, but it looks like it could be the same collection.
35:42Let's talk a little bit about Mondo.
35:44He's a very talented young man.
35:47The fascinator was probably one of my favorite parts.
35:50Gave interest to the dress, which could have been just a black dress.
35:53It was a beautiful black dress that had a modern edge.
35:56So let's talk about Jor-El.
35:57I think his tribal element was beautiful.
35:59Jor-El made a very understandable dress, and I think we all know that, but did he try and push boundaries? That I'm not so sure about.
36:06Did he push the boundaries with some unusual paper plate or something out of the 99 cent store? No.
36:13But the execution certainly gave him an upper hand.
36:15Let's move on to Sweet Pea.
36:17I think here is a dress that's not so well executed.
36:20Out of a fabric the dresses are made of.
36:22It's just off.
36:24It needed to be more purposefully irregular.
36:27It just kind of wandered down the middle of the road.
36:30The dress was like, what happened?
36:32Don't know exactly whether it's eccentric or just a mistake.
36:35Yeah, it seems like somebody who doesn't know how to put a look together.
36:38Right, it really does.
36:39I would never be seen dead in it.
36:41Oh no.
36:42Hi.
36:43Can we move on to Jordana and the party streamers?
36:45I think the use of streamers was smart because it moved when you walked down the runway.
36:50I think the one thing that Jordana has to learn is when to stop.
36:54And even when she has a little extra time, then use it to her advantage.
36:58So then it brings me to Elisa and just in terms of where I've been on the runway and the designers I've worked with, I don't know if she's up to par.
37:06It was actually a very entertaining moment to me.
37:08You can't stand at the end of the runway and explain your look for half an hour for people to begin to understand it.
37:13I agree.
37:14I agree.
37:15You need to feel it.
37:16Okay, so are we all agreed?
37:17Well designers, what a great way to start our all-star season.
37:24One of you will be named this week's winner and one of you will be going home.
37:33One of you will be named this week's winner and one of you will be going home.
37:41Jarell, you are safe.
37:46Well done.
37:48You can leave the runway.
37:49Yes.
37:51Mondo, Rami, the two of you have the highest scores, which means one of you is the winner of this challenge.
38:07And that designer is Rami.
38:11Congratulations, Rami.
38:13I really appreciate it.
38:14We were really all hugely impressed by your design.
38:17You may leave the runway.
38:19Thank you so much.
38:20Nice to meet you.
38:23I feel like this challenge proves a point that I'm capable of construction just as well as I'm capable of draping.
38:29So I'm very happy with the results.
38:30I just feel relieved and I could take a breath, exhale and celebrate.
38:37Mondo, you also did an amazing job.
38:40You may also leave the runway.
38:43Being on the show last year really validated me as a designer and I know that I'm good enough and that I do deserve a chance.
38:52Hey girls.
38:53Thanks.
38:54That alone makes me want to win the competition.
38:58You think Sweet Pea is going to help, don't you?
39:00No, I don't think Sweet Pea is going to help.
39:01I'm afraid.
39:02I hope not.
39:04Sweet Pea, Jordana, Elisa.
39:06The three of you this week had the lowest scores and unfortunately one of you will be eliminated.
39:15Thank you so much.
39:16Thank you so much.
39:17You may leave the runway.
39:19Sweet Pea and Elisa.
39:22One of you will be in and one of you will be out.
39:25Sweet Pea, you have a lot of talent but you need to listen to your instincts and not second-guess yourself.
39:29Elisa, your designs really need to speak for themselves, not be explained.
39:30Sweet Pea, you have a lot of talent but you need to listen to your instincts and not second-guess yourself.
39:47Elisa, your designs really need to speak for themselves, not be explained.
39:54Sweet Pea.
39:56You're in.
40:03Give me a leap the runway.
40:12Which I'm sorry to say, Elisa, you're out.
40:16Thank you very much all of you.
40:17Have happy everydays.
40:19Be blessed.
40:20You too.
40:21Bye.
40:22Bye.
40:23I'm completely satisfied.
