00:18Ok, this is what is going on on Season 13 of Project Runway.
00:22Lucky Season 13!
00:24Music
00:26We have 18 designers that are coming to their last audition.
00:28And they're all dying to compete on Project Runway.
00:31I really, really, really, really, really, really, really want to make it to Fashion Week.
00:35And we're narrowing it down to 15 designers.
00:38So, three are being cut.
00:41I don't get nervous, I just get ready.
00:44And that's going to be my motto to win this competition.
00:47I'm not going to be so big-headed as to tell you I'm going to win.
00:50Because you know what, everyone who ends up saying I'm going to win is that dumb one who's out.
00:55This is so exciting.
00:59We brought the 18 finalists to meet our judges.
01:02Nina Garcia, Zach Posen, and Heidi Klum, who will make the ultimate decision.
01:06This looks very good.
01:08Being here one step away, to be honest, is so nerve-wracking.
01:13I'm right there.
01:16All I need to do is just, like, you know, cross that finish line.
01:20The designers who move forward will be joined by the winner of our Runway Redemption competition.
01:26Where you, our viewers, have chosen one designer to return to compete on Project Runway.
01:31All right, let's get to it. Let's do this.
01:33Hi, everybody.
01:34Hi, Tal.
01:35I'm so happy to see all of you here.
01:39It's a big day.
01:40I'm going to give you the lay of the land.
01:42You will each be presenting individually to the judges.
01:45Be thoughtful.
01:46And also, I just want to say, relax.
01:48I know you're all nervous.
01:49I'm nervous.
01:50So, breathe.
01:52All right.
01:53So, welcome and prep away.
01:56Of course, I wish I was already on the show.
01:58That would be such a relief.
01:59But it's also, it's part of the ride.
02:01Our pieces are in stark contrast to each other.
02:03Yeah, I know.
02:04Exactly.
02:05That's why I jumped on your ride.
02:06Mitchell.
02:07Yeah, they call me Shark.
02:08Shark?
02:09Yeah, Shark.
02:10I'm going to call you Shark.
02:11My name is Sharkita Glover, and I'm from Detroit, Michigan.
02:12Oh, this was part of my spring collection, and these are sample pieces.
02:15You know, being from Detroit, born and raised, I'm a reflection of hard work.
02:19We're a strong city.
02:20We're go-getters.
02:21So, bring it on.
02:23Do you work, like, a nine-to-five job, or do you do this full-time?
02:27My first degree is in computer engineering.
02:29I was working at an investment bank.
02:30It's only recently I started designing, like, every day.
02:33Full-time.
02:34Yeah.
02:35Fashion is where I belong to, not computers, not Wall Street.
02:37Sometimes I think I'm going out on a limb.
02:39You know, who are you to be so confident that you can, you little small potato can make it
02:45out there?
02:46You know, Karina, you're the first designer to go in, so sell it.
02:49I'm ready.
02:50Good.
02:51Welcome.
02:53Karina, tell us a little bit about what kind of designer you are.
02:55I'm American Indian, from the Puyallup tribe, so a lot of my stuff is inspired by,
02:59my growing up.
03:00Do you wear your own clothing?
03:01I like this coat.
03:02I do.
03:03Yeah.
03:04I love that next coat.
03:05I'd love to see this on.
03:06Great.
03:07Am I allowed to buy things today?
03:10Who do you think your customer is?
03:12I love the New York woman.
03:13I'm from Eugene, Oregon, but I currently live in Brooklyn, New York.
03:17I come from a family of artists, so kind of living in that starving artist environment
03:21is awesome.
03:22Yeah.
03:23It's a different silhouette.
03:24Yeah.
03:25It's like a seraphic slash coat.
03:26Really, really beautiful.
03:27How do you work under time pressure?
03:29That's pretty much the only way that I work.
03:31I mean, like right now, I'm number one, right?
03:33And I'm pretty calm.
03:34You shouldn't be.
03:36I did the screen printing myself.
03:39This is screen printed?
03:40Yeah.
03:41Good heavens.
03:42I had a very traditional family.
03:44My parents were very orthodox, but we moved to a big city, so there was a lot of change
03:49in their thinking.
03:50We do believe in our traditions and our culture, but see it in a modern way.
03:54These are actually middle finger prints.
03:56So there's a lot of humor in your work.
03:58Yes, because there are states back home where women are not treated well.
04:02Oh, I know.
04:03Give the middle finger to the men who don't treat them well.
04:06Good for you.
04:08This collection here was a part of my senior thesis.
04:10I'm fresh from school.
04:11It was inspired by how the human body creates speed.
04:14I was a hip hop dancer for eight years.
04:16So when you dance, you have to be able to move in your clothing.
04:19I'm very familiar with the body, how it works.
04:21The jacket with the sleeve that's kind of detached from the body almost.
04:25You do have a lot of ideas, new ideas.
04:27Sometimes maybe too many.
04:28I want to tell my story, and I feel like my work will always be original.
04:32You know, he's young.
04:33But he's fearless.
04:36You can start moving your work over to the rack that Karina's just clearing.
04:41Okay.
04:42It's definitely been a long road.
04:43Working for other companies kind of crushed my spirit a little bit.
04:46And then I had my daughter who totally re-sparked that wanting to design again.
04:50And now I have a kids line called Devon Rose named after my daughter.
04:53Hi, Emily.
04:54Hi.
04:55Did you make your dress that you have on?
04:56Yeah, I did.
04:57To match your hair color.
04:59It's actually like a shirt dress.
05:01It's plated through the back.
05:03A lot of my work is androgynous.
05:05I'm impressed.
05:07Hi.
05:08Hi.
05:09Where are you from, Emmanuel?
05:10Originally I'm from Mexico.
05:11My parents came over here when I was a baby.
05:12And I live in Dallas.
05:13The women in Dallas love their fashion.
05:15So I designed for girls like Kylie and Kendall Jenner.
05:19Rihanna would totally wear this.
05:20It's sheer.
05:21This has lace sleeves.
05:22Beautiful technique.
05:23Nicely made.
05:24My only issue is I see three totally different designers on a rack here.
05:29This is everything for me.
05:30I mean, I left my job.
05:31I left my apartment.
05:32Everything I've got is right here.
05:34I love this yellow number in the middle.
05:38That's like pop.
05:39It has pockets.
05:40I'm obsessed with pockets.
05:41Tell us a little bit more about you.
05:43Self-taught.
05:4437.
05:45Single.
05:46Wave into that camera right there.
05:47Hey, fellas.
05:49Your attention to detail is exceptional.
05:51I like how your rack looks.
05:53It feels secure.
05:54I love what you do.
05:56Oh, my God.
05:57I see a lot of volume.
05:58Oh, my God.
05:59Silhouette is my first love as a designer.
06:00I want to bring my avant-garde approach to the show.
06:04Alexander is very creative.
06:05Hi.
06:06Hi.
06:07How are y'all?
06:08You look like you just came from the beach.
06:10Well, I live in South Florida, and the shorter the shorts, the closer to God, so...
06:14Okay.
06:15I'm all about fun and enjoying your life.
06:17Fashion's important to me because of where I came from.
06:20I came from very little, very humble beginnings.
06:23I mean, it's not really even humble.
06:25It's kind of, like, tragic.
06:26This is one of my short cocktail numbers.
06:28I have this fun tank top here using my print.
06:31There's something very easy about it.
06:33Something tells me he could surprise us.
06:35Okay, I think you're right.
06:36I like him.
06:37I like him, too, but he's gonna be feisty.
06:40I like the classic style, so I'm inspired by designers like V&A, Chanel, Madame Grey.
06:47I play with versatility, so this piece can be brought around to the front like that.
06:52Or it could be draped around the head like a scarf.
06:55I feel like you are showing us one dress, in a way.
06:59A little one-note.
07:00Hmm.
07:01This is a look that I just did for an event called Black Hearts Ball.
07:04Now, is this for a man or is this for a woman?
07:06It's for a woman.
07:07Mm-hmm.
07:08I guess my muse is a middle-aged lesbian woman.
07:11I really love using contrast fabrics, and I think that it makes for more of a kind of futuristic feel.
07:19My favorite part about your pieces is all the theming.
07:23Yeah, I do it all myself.
07:24My only worry would be to not be so close to the designers that you love.
07:29It looks like we just went to the Rick Owen store and just bought a few things.
07:34This one is a lot of cut and also in the back.
07:37You have some good ideas.
07:39I already present twice in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in the Lincoln Center.
07:43Good, so you have some experience.
07:45I see you have talent and that you have creative ideas.
07:49I worry about the taste.
07:52The what?
07:53The taste.
07:56Hi.
07:57Hi, I'm Sam from Texas.
07:58Hi.
07:59Hi.
08:00I like to think my girl is contemporary.
08:02She's still hip, you know, urban-y.
08:04Only a girl from Texas uses the word urban-y.
08:07Yeah.
08:08Hini is your name, right?
08:09Yeah.
08:10Hini Okohokuloa.
08:11That's my first name.
08:12Hini is fine.
08:13You're a denim man.
08:14My denim cocktail dress.
08:16I love it.
08:17A jumper.
08:18I love it.
08:19She loves it.
08:20Goodbye.
08:21Next.
08:22Fede Zugrau.
08:23Du kommst bestimmt aus Deutschland, oder?
08:25Das stimmt.
08:26Yeah.
08:27Ich komme aus Deutschland.
08:28Fede Zugrau, that must be German.
08:31Yeah.
08:32What is that a map of?
08:33It's just a print I designed.
08:35Cool.
08:36This is really helpful.
08:37If you're on the dance floor like two hours or something, which I am, it's like 80s night
08:40on Sunday, so we're going like Janet Jackson and so.
08:44I don't like anything in your rack.
08:47But I like what you wear.
08:48Oh.
08:49Okay.
08:50So it's a leap of faith here going on this.
08:53In school, they always called me the nervous kid, so I'm always going to be nervous.
08:59Yoo-hoo, over here.
09:00Okay, sorry.
09:01That's okay.
09:02I'm confused.
09:03Hi.
09:04The first look I'm going to show you, it's kind of like a dress shirt with the collars at
09:08the bottom.
09:09It's very well made.
09:10This is kind of like a play on a v-neck t-shirt.
09:13I think it looks really good.
09:14It's clean, fresh, and straightforward.
09:16I like what you brought, but I think you have to amp up the volume a little bit more.
09:23I can turn it up.
09:24This one is like hand embroidery, and this collar is actually detachable.
09:29I call these shoulder plates.
09:31It's hammered metal sheets.
09:33So this is actually a mild abusive word, which means stupid or dumb.
09:37And because these women in India, they can't say anything I wanted the clothes to say.
09:41Shandi, I love your point of view.
09:42It's my favorite thing I've seen all day.
09:44You're playing with tradition.
09:46Craft.
09:47Subversiveness with language, but it somehow all has a sense of ease.
09:53Bye.
09:54Bye.
09:55All right, let's decide on who will be on Project Runway season 13.
09:58We did love Alexander.
09:59I'm still not on Project Runway.
10:00I don't know.
10:01I'm not even thinking that way.
10:02I'm thinking I am on it already.
10:04Sharketta was a yes for me.
10:05The shark is good.
10:06Jefferson?
10:07I think Jefferson should be in the yes pile.
10:09I do too.
10:10Then we have my German friend Fade.
10:12What was on the rack was frightening.
10:14I don't know.
10:15I don't think that that was bad.
10:16I don't either.
10:17I think we should give him a shot.
10:18Oh.
10:19So he goes in the maybe pile maybe?
10:20Yes.
10:21Mitchell did his own prints.
10:22You guys liked Mitchell.
10:23I'm on the fence with him.
10:24Carrie.
10:25You guys had allergic reactions to her.
10:27Yeah.
10:28All right, so this is it.
10:29No more changes.
10:30I'm going to go meet Tim and I will tell the designers.
10:36Designers, all of you brought interesting fashion and you all have a clear point of view.
10:4015 of you will be in and three of you will be out.
10:44Sean.
10:45Samantha.
10:46Christine.
10:47Sandia.
10:48Alexander.
10:49Congratulations.
10:50You're in.
10:51You're moving forward.
10:52It felt so crazy good.
10:53To see this dream is a big deal.
10:54Angela.
10:55You're also in.
10:56Congratulations.
10:57Tim.
10:58I'm sorry.
10:59I'm sorry.
11:00I'm sorry.
11:01I'm sorry.
11:02I'm sorry.
11:03I'm sorry.
11:04I'm sorry.
11:05I'm sorry.
11:06I'm sorry.
11:07I'm sorry.
11:08I'm sorry.
11:09I'm sorry.
11:10I'm sorry.
11:11I'm sorry.
11:12I'm sorry.
11:13I'm sorry.
11:14I'm sorry.
11:15I'm sorry.
11:16I'm sorry.
11:17You're out.
11:18Best wishes Tim.
11:19Good luck to you.
11:20I'm disappointed.
11:21I don't know.
11:22Maybe I just wasn't enough for them.
11:25Karina.
11:26Keeney.
11:27Emily.
11:28Jefferson.
11:29Sharkita.
11:30Fade.
11:31You're in.
11:32Even to say it just makes me smile.
11:38I'm a part of Project Runway season 13.
11:41Hernan.
11:42You're also moving forward.
11:44Congratulations.
11:45We're down to our last four designers.
11:50Two of you will be in.
11:52And two of you will be out.
11:54I just came all this way.
11:56I swam the entire ocean.
11:58And I'm going to die at the shore.
12:03Coming up on Project Runway.
12:05You're going to give the judges one look for spring.
12:09Holy .
12:10Girl, you're going to pass out.
12:17Two of you will be in.
12:19And two of you will be out.
12:23Mitchell.
12:26You made it.
12:27You're in.
12:31I'm sure my shorts had something to do with it.
12:32Because Heidi was probably like, those legs.
12:37Nzinga.
12:40I'm sorry, but you're not moving forward.
12:42That's wishes, Nzinga.
12:43Good luck to you.
12:44I feel like I'm a strong designer.
12:46But it is a little sad.
12:47Rejection kind of hurts.
12:49So.
12:50Carrie.
12:51You're moving forward.
12:52Congratulations.
12:53Okay, this is happening.
12:54Like, yeah.
12:55Emmanuel, I'm sorry.
12:56That means you're out.
12:57I tried my best.
12:58And unfortunately, it didn't happen for me this season.
12:59So.
13:00All I can do is just move forward.
13:01Congratulations, guys.
13:02Yes.
13:03Congratulations.
13:04Wow.
13:05Everyone grab a glass.
13:06Here is the season 13 of Project Runway.
13:07The season 13.

13:47Yay!
13:48Let's doedel.
13:49I know right!
13:50I'm freaking out!
13:51Help.
13:52Oh, my god.
13:53I love this.
13:54Oh, I want that!
13:55Aw, man.
13:56I'm so stoked.
13:57She's on my drift already, I can't do this.
13:59I want to open it so bad!
14:00There's a ventriloquist doll in there, and you have to make his look.
14:02I'm going to assume it's fabric, but it's Project Runway, you have no clue what they're
14:08going to throw at you.
14:09I'm next to the vet.
14:10You're next to them?
14:11Yeah.
14:12I don't know who they are.
14:13Who's it going to be?
14:14I don't know.
14:15This is going to be the veteran.
14:16This is slightly intimidating.
14:17I voted.
14:18I voted for this one.
14:19Amanda.
14:20We'll find out.
14:21We'll find out.
14:22We'll find out.
14:23Hi, everyone.
14:26Congratulations for being season 13.
14:29How thrilling is this?
14:31Angela, you look terrified.
14:34So welcome to your work room.
14:36To my right, we have the Aldo Styling Wall to accessorize your looks.
14:41Next door is the sewing room with machines provided by Brother International Corporation.
14:46And in the designer's lounge, you'll find a fully stocked Samsung Food Showcase refrigerator.
14:52I'm sure you've all noticed that we have an empty workstation.
14:56The fans of the show voted to bring back a former Project Runway designer.
15:00And they were voting among Ken Lawrence from season 12, Alexander Pope from season 12, and Amanda Valentine from season 11.
15:09Let's see who it is.
15:13The biggest motivator to come back was knowing that the first time I was here, I didn't show my true self.
15:28Crap, I'm going to cry, aren't I?
15:31Don't cry.
15:32Focus on the work.
15:33Now I know I can win.
15:34You are all competing to go to New York Fashion Week.
15:37And those of you who make it will be presenting a collection for spring.
15:42For this first challenge, you're going to give the judges a glimpse of what that collection would be if you were to make it today.
15:48But you're only making one look.
15:51You each have a black trunk at your workstation.
15:54Each trunk contains five fabrics of three yards each.
15:59And not all trunks contain the same fabrics.
16:02So you can beg, borrow, and steal among each other if you want to.
16:06But please don't steal.
16:07That would not be good.
16:08You have one day for this challenge.
16:11All right, everyone.
16:12Open your trunks.
16:13Good luck, and I will see you later.
16:14Oh, my God.
16:15Super.
16:16What do you got?
16:17I got this really dope, edgy print, which I'm dying for.
16:18What have you got?
16:19Is this something you like?
16:20No one's going to want this.
16:21Do you want any of these for this one?
16:22I don't.
16:23So it's going to do like three layers.
16:24Love it.
16:25If we're doing spring-summer, I think young, fun.
16:30So I'm going to do a wrapper that's open in the front and it's enclosed in the back.
16:33So I'm really excited for that.
16:34Oh, my gosh.
16:35I got this really dope, edgy print, which I'm dying for.
16:36What have you got?
16:37Is this something you like?
16:38No one's going to want this.
16:39Do you want any of these for this one?
16:40I don't.
16:41I don't.
16:42I don't.
16:43I don't.
16:44I don't.
16:45I don't.
16:46So it's going to do like three layers.
16:47Love it.
16:48If we're doing spring-summer, I think young, fun.
16:49and it's enclosed in the back, so I'm really excited for that.
16:55I'm creating an asymmetrical top.
16:58The pants are asymmetrical as well with some detail that shows some skin on the side hip.
17:09It's going to be like a one-piece. It's going to be like a really edgy jumper.
17:12Oh, fun. Yeah.
17:15I grew up with a lot of traditional state of mind.
17:18Me and my husband, we had an arranged marriage. We met for five minutes,
17:22and after two days, like, I knew that I was getting married.
17:27Oh, snap.
17:32Hi, everyone. Hello.
17:33Hey, Tim.
17:34I'm going to check in with each of you.
17:37Hi, old buddy. How does it feel to be back?
17:39I feel so much better this time around.
17:41When I see what you've done already, it establishes a level of quality that has to be consistent.
17:46Welcome back. Thanks, Tim.
17:47I'm still not sure how short the short should be. What I'm thinking of here is having three layers,
17:52so that way, hopefully, when she walks, they'll flutter a little bit.
17:57This is not going to do what you want it to do.
17:59What I want it to do.
18:00You need to push it.
18:02I picked these zippers, and I thought I'll combine them and do piping.
18:07This concerns me. Why not use that print?
18:10I tried putting it in, and it'll end up looking a bit crafty.
18:13Doesn't look as crafty as this does.
18:16Angela, hi.
18:17The pants, it's got this asymmetrical detail.
18:20This should crop up so that it shows some skin.
18:23Skin right here?
18:25Yeah.
18:25You may have to give your model some grooming assignments for tonight.
18:30What do you mean?
18:31Well, this is getting a little close to some other anatomical parts.
18:38Tell me what you're doing.
18:39I'm doing a jumpsuit. You know, I love doing a high neck.
18:42Karina is going to be my biggest competition at this point.
18:45The way that she's manipulating the knit is really interesting.
18:48Is that a belt?
18:49Yeah, it is.
18:50It's just so limp.
18:53And how's Mitchell?
18:54Mitchell's good.
18:55Good. Talk to me.
18:56She's going to be just a cool, edgy, fun girl.
19:00The top is pinned in or sewn in?
19:02It's sewn in right now.
19:05Why isn't it a separate?
19:06I didn't really want to do separates.
19:07It also has the 80s athletic vibe.
19:10Well, I don't hate that, actually.
19:12Okay, own it.
19:13All right, designers.
19:14Your models are coming in in an hour,
19:16and you will have half an hour with them.
19:18And designers, later today, you'll be moving into Gotham West,
19:21one of Manhattan's newest and most luxurious apartment buildings
19:24and home of Gotham West Market.
19:27I will see you in the morning.
19:34This is so nice.
19:36She's beautiful.
19:36She's tall.
19:37So bubbly.
19:38You ready?
19:39Yeah.
19:39It reminds me of myself.
19:41The jumper fits her really well.
19:43The only thing I'm really concerned about right now is I don't know how much of the side boob
19:47I really want to show out there.
19:49I don't even have a dress.
19:52I just have sleeves.
19:56Okay, so how do you feel like around in there?
19:58It's tight.
19:59Does that feel comfortable?
19:59My garment is looking really, really good on the model.
20:01She has a little sass to her, so that works good.
20:06We got this.
20:06Oh my god, that was the most stressful 30 minutes ever.
20:15I liked yours, by the way.
20:16Her ass is completely out though.
20:18I feel panicked inside, but I'm not letting anybody see me sweat.
20:22Did it fit well?
20:25Yeah.
20:26Yours?
20:27I had nothing to fit except sleeves.
20:28I am running out of time.
20:30I need to take a few deep breaths.
20:34There's a lot to do in two hours tomorrow.
20:37Oh, it's time to go guys.
20:38Oh, it's time to go guys.
20:44Oh, okay.
20:46That's beautiful.
20:48That's a nice view.
20:49It is a beautiful building.
20:51Cool.
20:52What do you think was struggling today?
20:54I think Angelo was struggling.
20:56I'm more about the Indian, Sandhya, and Karina.
21:00Oh my god, so Karina was going to do something amazing.
21:04That's what I thought too.
21:06Only day one.
21:07It's so not what you think it is.
21:11Coming up on Project Runway.
21:13Girl?
21:13Yeah.
21:14Let's head down to our first runway show.
21:16Excuse me, excuse me.
21:17Angela is ironing her garment while the model is still wearing it.
21:32Here we go girls.
21:35We got action.
21:37It's runway day.
21:38I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
21:40You feeling good, Jefferson?
21:42I am.
21:43I'm feeling good.
21:44And you?
21:44We got this.
21:47Good morning, everyone.
21:48Good morning, Tim.
21:50Good morning, Tim.
21:50Your models are coming in momentarily.
21:53You are to send them to the Philip B. hair studio and the Mary Kay color design studio, all right?
22:00Use the Aldo styling wall very thoughtfully, okay?
22:05Have a great morning and make it work.
22:07Thanks, Tim.
22:12Are you okay with not wearing the bra, right?
22:14Yeah.
22:14Yeah, that looks amazing.
22:16Hold it right there on the sides.
22:19Okay, turn around for me and then the butt looks magical.
22:24Mitchell's look, it looks teen.
22:26The top is just pulling everything down.
22:28It looks a little too young.
22:30Take that, Tim.
22:35If we could play with like an ombre of orange with a pop of color.
22:39This at play, I think it would be a really nice compliment without it being really obvious.
22:44I want to do a nude lip.
22:45My look is very, very spring and summer.
22:47We'll just use like a lip gloss like this.
22:50It just gives a really nice sheen on the lip.
22:53Like an ombre kind of effect from light to dark.
22:56Yeah, we can do that.
22:57Her eyes will just have like a like a block of color.
23:00I got you.
23:01I feel you.
23:01Yeah.
23:06Does anyone need help with anything?
23:09I have time.
23:09Do you want to give me a plane?
23:11Yeah.
23:12You're welcome.
23:13I'm a nice guy sometimes.
23:15Can you take scissors?
23:17Yeah, I'm just free.
23:21Zandia, her look looks like a stained curtain.
23:24I don't think it looks high fashion.
23:27It looks thrown together.
23:28I'm just really lost.
23:30Someone's going to have to let me borrow a lint brush.
23:33Welcome to the Philippine room.
23:35So I really wanted to do a high knot bun because I'm going to do a really cool black and white headband.
23:39It's like a messy top knot.
23:40Top knot, yeah.
23:41So I was thinking like maybe like a messy kind of looking top knot.
23:44Yeah, I think if you bring it all back and then we have a couple pieces coming out, it'll be like very,
23:49very nice and right on front.
23:51We're going kind of a New York downtown street vibe.
23:53fold it apart a little bit more and then just really like work her texture.
23:57Thank you so much.
24:00What do you think about Zandia?
24:01I haven't really seen it up close.
24:03I was helping her to like finish it as she could, but I'm not in love with the look.
24:07I think she'll be in trouble.
24:09Zandia's look was kind of weird.
24:11It seemed like a basic cut dress with the sleeve that wasn't.
24:17I don't get it.
24:17But if she wins.
24:20Let's just say.
24:21Watch this.
24:21Don't put that on.
24:25Designers, in 10 minutes, you and your models and I are going down to the runway.
24:3010 minutes, everyone.
24:32My heart just started beating a little bit faster.
24:36Sorry, baby.
24:37I'm going to do this to make you more beautiful.
24:42Perfect.
24:44Just hang on.
24:45The back is a little bit.
24:46I need to fix the back.
24:47Anyone have a needle?
24:49Angela is still running around the workroom like a madwoman.
24:52No, it's on the wrong way.
24:55Excuse me, excuse me.
24:56She's even ironing her garment while the model is still wearing it.
25:00Designers and models, let's head down to our first runway show.
25:07Yay, it's going to be fabulous.
25:10Come, everyone.
25:14All right.
25:21Hello, everybody.
25:22Hi.
25:23Welcome to the runway.
25:25It's very nice to see you all again.
25:27Amanda, you ready for it one more time?
25:30I think so.
25:31I'm just going to listen to my gut and I'm going to make what I want to make.
25:35Okay, designers.
25:36For this challenge, we asked you to create a look that would fit into a spring collection
25:40designed by you.
25:42This season, we have a big prize package and it is worth over $300,000.
25:48The winner of Project Runway will receive $100,000 from Red Robin to launch their business,
25:54and the opportunity to design a fashion accessory for Red Robin servers.
25:59A shoe and accessory collection from Aldo to help enhance their upcoming runway shows.
26:04A premier home entertainment system courtesy of Samsung.
26:08From Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows
26:13and professional makeup artist services for their debut show.
26:17A complete sewing and crafting studio from Brother Sewing and Embroidery.
26:21A 2015 Lexus NXF Sport.
26:24And travel and hotel accommodations to fashion capitals and inspiring locations around the world
26:30from Best Western International.
26:33And the winning designer and the winning model will receive a fashion spread in Mary Claire Magazine.
26:38All right, let's say hello to our judges.
26:40First, we have acclaimed designer, Zach Posen.
26:43Hi, designers.
26:44Hi, Zach.
26:44Welcome.
26:45Creative director for Mary Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
26:49Hi, everyone.
26:50Good luck.
26:51And star of the hit show, Modern Family, Emmy Award winner, Julie Bowen.
26:56Welcome.
26:58Thank you, Heidi.
27:00I'm excited to be here.
27:02It's the first runway show of the whole season.
27:04Do you watch the show, Julie?
27:05I've missed maybe one season of all of them.
27:09I'm really good on the weird people.
27:11I'll pick out the weirdo here.
27:12I haven't decided yet.
27:15We're also very excited to have Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
27:21So he will not be judging you.
27:23As you know, he is your mentor.
27:25He will have the Tim Gunn save.
27:28And here's how it works.
27:29If at some point during the competition, he disagrees with us, the judges, then he can exercise his save.
27:36That eliminated designer can then return to the competition.
27:39But that can only happen one time.
27:42We also have an anonymous runway show.
27:44So your work will have to stand on its own.
27:47Okay, let's start the show.
27:55It looks very different from what everyone else has done.
27:58I have my own voice, which is very personal, very individualistic.
28:03I don't think it's necessarily a strong look for me.
28:15All I see is always flaws.
28:21I'm paying attention to the back where it's causing a problem.
28:24I'm hoping my creativity will pull me through.
28:34I'm super confident.
28:35The structural element up top is standing up.
28:38There's no flappiness.
28:40The dress is moving on the bottom.
28:42Overall, I think I executed my idea.
28:44I feel confident when my look comes down the runway.
28:57I think that I achieved exactly what I wanted.
29:01It's very different from what everyone else has created.
29:05She looks great and she looks futuristic.
29:15And I didn't even realize that my design had that element.
29:17I feel really good.
29:28I'm the only one who's using an all-knit black fabric, which I don't mind at all.
29:36I love the look and I just really want to be safe and move on to the next challenge.
29:46I think Bella looks so young and fresh and a little bit hip and interesting.
29:53Definitely slightly different from everyone else's.
29:55I feel like she looks like a really cool person wearing new fashion.
30:05What I'm sending down the runway is 100% what I wanted to do.
30:10I'm confident.
30:11I feel like it represents a spring look.
30:14And I think it has everything and potential to win.
30:23The proportions are just how I wanted them.
30:26Adding the print with the solid blue gives it a really nice fresh spring look.
30:31I'm looking at Zach's face and he totally hates it.
30:40I think I need to step it up.
30:41It's very like ready to wear and I think it needs to be more show.
30:45I'm hoping that I'm not going home on the first challenge.
30:54I feel confident.
30:56I feel that she's making a beautiful work.
30:59And I love the outfit and I love the styling.
31:05Everything works perfectly.
31:07It stands out.
31:16It's different.
31:17I love the color.
31:19The styling is amazing.
31:26I really think I'm in the top.
31:27I'm relieved that it looks great.
31:39And my colors, I was excited that they looked great on her.
31:44I was very lucky that it all pulled together perfectly.
31:47This is probably one of the only times that I've just felt great.
32:00That talk is awesome.
32:02That's my girl.
32:03That's the vibe.
32:04She looks cool as and I know it.
32:07I think my first look coming down the runway is very exciting.
32:18I could not be happier with the movement and the layout.
32:24I'm very proud of this look.
32:33It's flowing.
32:34The color is popping off the lights.
32:36The skirt has movement.
32:42It turns out better than I envisioned.
32:44I'm over the moon.
32:45It's an amazing feeling.
32:51Okay, we have just learned which designer created which look.
32:56If I call your name, please step forward.
32:59Amanda.
33:00Jefferson.
33:03Mitchell.
33:05Sandia.
33:06Sharquita.
33:09Angela.
33:12If I have not called your name, congratulations.
33:15Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next round.
33:17You can leave the runway.
33:19Well, we're safe.
33:24I'm confused.
33:25I'm confused.
33:26I'm not confused.
33:27Confused.
33:27That's the word.
33:28Confused.
33:28Who do you think is going to win?
33:29I want Shar to win.
33:30Yeah.
33:31I think Shar is going to win.
33:32I want Sandia to win.
33:34I think Sandia is going out.
33:36I don't do it.
33:37I don't do it yet.
33:38If you saw that dress in Iraq, Sam, would you buy it?
33:44The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
33:48One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
33:52All right.
34:00Let's bring out your model.
34:08Sharquita, tell us about your design and how this represents you as a designer.
34:11I decided to do a spring shirt real flowy, open in the back, kind of simple and clean.
34:18And of course, add pockets to the skirt.
34:19You got to have pockets.
34:21I thought this was so charming.
34:23I love the fact that you took this cotton jersey and made it look so special.
34:29You took an ordinary fabric and you turned it into an extraordinary top.
34:35I really like this very much.
34:38I love a pocket.
34:39You know, as a human who's had children, the crop top still makes my mind explode with fear,
34:47but it works here.
34:49Did you drape the top in the actual fabric?
34:52Yes.
34:52Well, I think that helps.
34:54You know, she took the fabric and actually worked with the volume of the fabric instead of a muslin first.
34:59I can also see more pieces that you would create with this in a fashion show,
35:03because basically this is supposed to be one of your many looks.
35:06Right.
35:07Elegant and edgy.
35:08That's cool.
35:10Mitchell.
35:11Okay.
35:11So initially, the challenge we got was to design for spring, and that's kind of perfect with me,
35:16because I live in South Florida, and that's kind of like my vibe anyways.
35:20I just want to take her to a resort.
35:21My girl's really cool and fun, and if I were a girl, I would design something like this for myself.
35:25I had very little to write about this outfit.
35:30Okay.
35:31Why?
35:32Because I felt it didn't really say much.
35:35It's a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.
35:37It's just very basic and elementary.
35:41I thought this was actually very spring, a lot of fun.
35:45It is very junior, but I happen to like ensembles sometimes.
35:48Yeah.
35:49I mean, it's supposed to be for a collection, so it's one piece in it.
35:51I could turn this into a pant and do a top.
35:53This isn't common.
35:54Oh, I thought it was a top and a pant.
35:56The pants fit really nicely.
35:58The top feels a little DIY, like things are lifting off, and I'm not sure how it's connecting,
36:05and it just feels like it's not as polished as it could be.
36:10You described a woman as fun.
36:12We need to have more adjectives than fun, and understand there has to be more than that.
36:17Okay, I understand.
36:18Sandhya, tell us about your look.
36:19As soon as I opened the box, I saw a lot of patterns.
36:23The first thing that came to mind was the Indian Spring Festival of Holi.
36:27There is a certain rawness to it, but still, it's really colorful and fun.
36:32So I took my fabric, I dyed it.
36:35Then I wanted to keep my edges a bit raw, you know, because the fabric was floral and so
36:39feminine, I wanted to give it that edgy feel.
36:42I love the silhouette of this dress.
36:44I feel like for real life, though, the ripped off, it's a little like an amorous moment that
36:51was interrupted, you know, the prince was just about to, yeah.
36:57Yeah.
36:57Yeah.
36:58I feel like that gives it the edginess.
37:00Maybe it's not something that actually people would wear, but it is for a fashion show,
37:04and I feel like that gives it the extra something special.
37:07And I haven't seen anything like that before, so you surprised me.
37:11And it feels personal, like all those little details, and that makes clothing special.
37:15I think with you, you took something and made it into a fantasy.
37:19I think this was very inventive.
37:21I like the way you manipulated the fabric, you dip-dyed the top.
37:25I have full confidence that you have the creativity to make it in this show.
37:31Congratulations.
37:32Thank you so much.
37:33That's really encouraging.
37:34Jefferson.
37:35I wanted to give a little bit of edgy, but a little soft.
37:39So in the top, with the different shapes and combining them, and then on the bottom,
37:43I wanted to give you something that was a little more soft.
37:45I thought this was terrible.
37:48The proportions of this, the short top, then you see the skin, and then it's the high-waisted.
37:54To me, this looked super strange.
37:57WTF.
38:00The crop top is so short and so angled, it looks like a bib.
38:04And the shorts, they're so high up, it looks like she's wearing some big diaper.
38:08These are not everybody's cup of tea shorts.
38:11Can you just explain what's bad about the shorts?
38:13They're not flattering, and the proportion is weird.
38:16I worry that you don't see that there's a proportion problem.
38:19Yeah, that's why I'm asking these questions, so I can really understand where you're coming from.
38:23This is one of those examples where the way you, right now, are dressed and look
38:28pushes me towards having more faith in you, because you look good.
38:32Mm-hmm.
38:33I agree.
38:33I want the whole thing.
38:35And it says to me, okay, that guy is cool.
38:39Maybe there's something cooler here that I'm not getting.
38:42I'm still not sure I'm getting it all the way, though.
38:45Thank you, Jefferson.
38:46Amanda?
38:48So, since my last time here, I've been really focused on who my girl is.
38:53My girl is really into dramatic day wear.
38:59She loves contrast, be it in draping versus structure or color, just anything contrasting.
39:06You know, to do something that is interesting and commercial is very hard, and I think this is
39:13one of them.
39:14The pants look fabulous.
39:16The way you styled her, she looks groovy, she looks cool.
39:19I want to be that girl.
39:22You know, I thought the top was really beautifully draped.
39:25It looked really professionally made.
39:27There was sophistication.
39:28It wasn't a wow runway piece.
39:30It looks good.
39:31I'll take it.
39:32I think those pants fit so well.
39:36I don't need the pattern because they're so well made.
39:38They don't need to have a lot of gris-gris going on.
39:43For me, it didn't stand out enough.
39:45I think you have to bring us more fashion.
39:46For me, it is almost too normal, too wearable.
39:49I feel like if you want to win Project Runway, you have to turn the volume up a little bit more.
39:56Angela?
39:57I want to show this something new.
39:59I like playing around with lines.
40:00I like playing with asymmetry, and I still want to make it wearable.
40:04Instead of calling those slits, I'm going to call them sluts.
40:08Oh, Nina!
40:09Nina's back!
40:13Plus, if she turns around, when she was walking out, that was very, very low.
40:21I think that there's a lot of skin, and that fights the simplicity of this outfit.
40:27You have this neckline that is very unusual, the slits in the pants.
40:31Then you have the tail on the side.
40:33Your eye just doesn't know where to look because there's so much going on.
40:36It's walking the line between too sexy and bad taste.
40:40When I was in the audition, I was told I was to settle, and I overcompensated.
40:46Which is true.
40:47And we said, turn up the volume a little bit.
40:49Don't be too quiet.
40:50Bringing up drama doesn't necessarily always mean skin or being tricked out.
40:56Thank you, Angela.
40:58Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
40:59We're also going to take a closer look at the clothes.
41:03And then we'll bring you back in a little bit.
41:04You can leave the runway.
41:06I have the worst critique.
41:15They call me slutty.
41:16Such a horrible critique.
41:18It was so bad.
41:21Nina shaded the proportions.
41:23She said, my top looked like a bib.
41:24She said, she looked like she had diapers on.
41:26I just, I was just so lost.
41:29I was lost.
41:32Hi.
41:32How are you?
41:33Good.
41:34Very interesting runway presentation, yes?
41:37Yep.
41:37May we start with the team on the bottom?
41:39Yes.
41:39Yes.
41:40Rachel, step right over here, please.
41:42I want to see this.
41:43You can see it?
41:44Oh.
41:45No.
41:45It's like easy access.
41:47Those are fun pants.
41:48The pants are not bad.
41:49If they were with a different top, they wouldn't be bad.
41:51They're normal-sized.
41:52Heidi, you don't think those pants need to come with a gift certificate for a Brazilian?
41:56But then maybe it was our fault because we told her to amp it up the last time we saw her.
42:00Well, that's a real important question to ask a designer.
42:03If you amp it up, there's ways it can go right and ways it can go wrong.
42:08The shorts are bicycle shorts.
42:09They are bicycle shorts.
42:10No, it's sewn.
42:11No, it is sewn.
42:12It lifts up in a funky monkey way.
42:15That's always the problem.
42:16We see these clothes closer up and they look worse.
42:19Yeah, I'm really, this doesn't take me anywhere.
42:21No.
42:22Like, I don't think this would get you into design school.
42:28When I see this blousey pant, I would be like, oh my gosh.
42:33Does this girl not have a mirror at home?
42:34How can she walk out of the house this way?
42:36If those were a trouser, would you have a problem?
42:38I mean, that's a problem.
42:39What?
42:39It just is.
42:40Like, the wind blows.
42:41And you have a bow.
42:42Exactly.
42:43I mean, it's basically like a crop top for maternity.
42:46So, the top three.
42:48Come on out.
42:49Yeah.
42:49We have Angelica wearing Sharquita.
42:51Beautiful.
42:52Really beautiful.
42:53Do a good spin with the pockets.
42:56Cute.
43:00I was really worried about this.
43:01I was happy you liked it.
43:02I mean, it's out there.
43:03I haven't seen anything like this before.
43:05No, you haven't.
43:05I thought she really has a unique idea.
43:08I'm intrigued.
43:08I want to see more.
43:09I love that.
43:10It's a showpiece.
43:13See, I love these pants.
43:15And the attitude of this look was fabulous.
43:17And it represents who she wants to dress.
43:29The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
43:32One of you will be named the winner.
43:34And one of you will be out.
43:42Designers, this was a really great first runway show.
43:47Of course, some of you did better than others.
43:51Sandhya, you are the winner of this challenge.
43:55Congratulations.
43:56Thank you so much.
44:00That also means you will have immunity for the next challenge.
44:03You cannot be eliminated.
44:07I am speechless.
44:09It feels amazing.
44:10It feels like my hard work of all these years,
44:14my effort and my dreams, they are paying off.
44:19Well, I'm safe.
44:20Is there a winner?
44:21There's a winner.
44:22Who do you guys think?
44:23Who do you guys think?
44:24Wait, you're all safe.
44:25Oh, you're getting rid of the winner?
44:26Single one.
44:28You won?
44:29I was the only one that called that.
44:31Everyone else thought you were in the bottom.
44:32You're just like sitting there like it's still a secret.
44:35I knew you were going to win.
44:36Wait.
44:37Congratulations.
44:37Congratulations.
44:41Angela.
44:44You're in.
44:45You can leave the runway.
44:46Oh, my God.
44:48Thank you for the second chance.
44:50Good luck.
44:50Oh, my God.
44:58Jefferson.
44:59Mitchell.
45:00Unfortunately, one of you will be the first one to go.
45:07Mitchell.
45:15You're in.
45:18You can leave the runway.
45:21Nice meeting you.
45:22Nice meeting you.
45:23I'm sorry, buddy.
45:30Jefferson, I'm sorry.
45:31That means you're out.
45:35Auf Wiedersehen.
45:36Thank you so much.
45:37Good luck to you.
45:39Thank you guys so much.
45:42I wasn't expecting to be the first to go home at all.
45:44I'm definitely disappointed.
45:45I thought I was going to go a lot further.
45:53My look was my look and I had to stand by that.
45:56And I'm glad that I did.
46:00This season on Project Runway.
46:02Action.
46:04Welcome to the rainway.
46:06What the auction began.
46:12180.
46:13Sold.
46:14You were creating your own alternative wedding dress.
46:17You know it was going to be a kick-ass challenge.
46:20I'm not trying to have no drama.
46:21I plan on busy nothing not working well.
46:23No, I didn't.
46:24Yeah, you did.
46:25I'm not hearing team in any of this.
46:27That just looks really cheap.
46:28And don't start crying about it.
46:30This is nothing if not the season of the vagina.
46:33What?
46:33I'm being picked on really bad.
46:35I don't want to cry.
46:36Of course your feelings are hurt.
46:37I don't know when I last heard such bull .
46:47What a fun fabulous fashion show.
46:49This was sublime.
46:51She looks like she's coming from the planet of the apes.
46:54It is rough.
46:55It looks like she's a vagina superhero.
46:58Stop.
46:58No more excuses.
