00:00Don't stand a chance, but only one can be the winner. I'm better than that. You've got to be kidding me.
00:07Who will be the next big fashion designer? I got this in the bag. Carry on.
00:13For these 15 contestants, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
00:21My name is Milan Breton. I was born in Taiwan. A lot of my inspiration comes from Hollywood.
00:26Very old movies. A period where women really, really dressed and were very stylized.
00:32The thing that will set me apart from the other designers is raw talent.
00:37You know, it's really, really bad feng shui to have fake flowers in your house.
00:44I'm Michael, by the way.
00:47My name is Michael Knight. I'm 28 years old and I'm from ATL, Georgia.
00:51The music industry is really big in Atlanta, so that was my way of striking it into the fashion business.
00:59Project Runway is my chance to become, excuse my French, a mother f*****g fashion star.
01:06Where are you from?
01:07Oh, all over.
01:08Sounds so disappointing.
01:09I'm in Taiwan.
01:11Yeah, I don't think so.
01:14Hello.
01:15Hi, Bradley.
01:16Bradley, nice to meet you, guy.
01:17Milan.
01:18Hi, I'm Robert.
01:19My name is Laura Bennett.
01:27My background is in architecture, but my passion is in fashion.
01:33I never dress down.
01:36I think that when you're 42 years old and you have five children, it's a slippery slope into sweatpants and a minivan, so I just don't go there.
01:45Hi.
01:46Hey.
01:46My name is Angela Kessler.
01:48I live in Ohio on a farm in the middle of quote-unquote nowhere.
01:54I think that Project Runway is going to be a platform for visibility in the fashion industry.
02:00What do people do in Ohio, anyway?
02:02I've often wondered what goes.
02:05Hi.
02:06Hi.
02:06Hi, I'm Laura.
02:07I'm Stacy.
02:08Hi, Stacy.
02:09How many fashion designers does it take to open a door?
02:15My full name is Jonathan Cain Gillespie.
02:18I am co-owner of a prom pageant boutique in Oklahoma.
02:22What is a wire hanger doing in the store?
02:24No wire hangers ever!
02:26I want to prove you can come from all different parts of the country and you can make it in the fashion world.
02:33My name is Jeffrey Sebelia.
02:36I'm 36 years old.
02:37I've been a fashion designer and I'm from Los Angeles.
02:40I have this clothing line called Cosa Nostra.
02:42I make clothes for rock stars like Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Jane's Addiction, No Doubt, Elton John, Marilyn Manson, Stephen Tyler.
02:48There's more, but I can't remember them all right now.
02:50By my standards, I've had a lot of success in the industry, but I haven't reached the goal of success that I want to reach.
02:58What's your name?
02:59Vincent.
03:00I'm Jeff.
03:01Jeff!
03:07Hello, hello.
03:08Hi.
03:08My name is Keith Michael.
03:10I do menswear, and I've been wanting to do womenswear, but never got around to doing it.
03:15I don't expect to win every challenge.
03:18I just expect to win in the end.
03:21Hi.
03:22My name is Alison Kelly.
03:24I'm 25 years old.
03:25I started up my own label and started selling in stores.
03:28This is a photo series that I did.
03:30I styled the shoot and designed the clothes and modeled for it.
03:33I've been running like this one-woman show with very little help.
03:37The exposure that you get from Project Runway, that could really boost my career.
03:42My name is Ulrike Hurtzner, but everybody calls me Uli, and I actually grew up in Germany.
03:49I moved to Miami Beach.
03:51That's where I'm living right now.
03:53My name is Bonnie Dominguez.
03:54I'm 31 years old, and I've been in the athletic and footwear design world for the past 10 years.
04:01I had the opportunity to work with tennis star Serena Williams and designed all of her outfits.
04:07We got another one.
04:09Hi.
04:09Hi.
04:09Nice to meet you.
04:10Nice to meet you.
04:11This is crazy.
04:11You just settled down wherever you want to be.
04:14I'm a really light sleeper, so as long as you guys don't snore, I should be good to go wherever.
04:20We have a note here.
04:21Guys, I'm opening it.
04:23Yeah, what do we got?
04:24What do we got?
04:24Designers.
04:25Welcome to your apartments, courtesy of Atlas New York.
04:27You have all been voted off.
04:29I'm kidding.
04:30It doesn't say that.
04:31Please unpack and join Tim and me on the rooftop for a celebratory toast.
04:35Love, Heidi.
04:36Woo!
04:36We're headed up to the rooftop, ready to party and have a little champagne.
04:41Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm.
04:54Hi, everybody.
04:56I'm so excited to see you all.
04:57Welcome to Project Runway.
04:59This is the rooftop of your new home.
05:01This is Atlas New York, Gotham City's luxury apartment building, and I'm sure you're going
05:06to love it, and I know you're going to love this man, too, and it's Tim Gunn of Parsons,
05:11the new school for design, and he's going to be your mentor.
05:15Welcome, everyone.
05:16The 15 of you were chosen from several thousand designers from around the country.
05:21You are an extremely talented group, and I'm thrilled to be working with you.
05:25And I think it's a good idea if we get to know each other a little bit better, and
05:28why don't we open a nice little ball of champagne?
05:31Okay.
05:32Yeah.
05:33That's it.
05:33Bravo.
05:34Okay.
05:34Welcome, welcome.
05:40So, let's have a toast to each and every one of you and to season three of Project Runway.
05:49It's so insane.
05:50You get off the plane, and you get to Atlas.
05:53The next thing you do, you're toasting.
05:55It's like, here we go.
05:57I've been doing fashion for 25 years.
06:00I did not know how to handle stress and pressure well when I ran my business in New York.
06:06It was near death for me.
06:09I stopped.
06:10I surrendered.
06:11And now I'm back, cashing out of a 401k.
06:14That'll drive me to be the best designer.
06:16That's how I'm feeling anyway.
06:17When I started working at Isaac Mizrahi, it was one of the best and worst experiences of my life.
06:23Did you say best and worst?
06:24Yeah.
06:24Oh, tell me.
06:25Okay, why best, why worst?
06:26Let's dish the dirt.
06:27Yeah.
06:28Working with Isaac Mizrahi taught me patience above all other things, because at times I would
06:33want to drive a stake through that man's heart.
06:35The last 11 years of my life have been devoted to designing for a Barbie doll.
06:42With Barbie, you can put her in insanely, you know, sort of drag queen clothes.
06:47She thinks they're great.
06:48She loves them.
06:49Have you bonded with anyone yet?
06:50Pretty much everyone that I've met.
06:52Everyone's so lovely.
06:53I mean, they're friendly.
06:54I don't know.
06:55Stay that way.
06:56My name is Stacey Estrella.
06:58I'm 40 years old.
06:59I went to Stanford University, and then I got an MBA at Harvard, and after that, I started
07:06a couple of companies.
07:07One was a dot-com, and I found that after doing that for several years, what I really
07:11wanted to do was get back to my passion, which really was fashion.
07:18Okay, everybody, please come and gather around.
07:20We have a very important announcement to make.
07:24Heidi and Tim said, gather around, and there was a little bit of a rush in my heart.
07:28I thought, okay, this is it.
07:29You guys all settled into your new apartments, right?
07:32Yeah.
07:33How do you like your new apartments?
07:35Love them.
07:35Yes.
07:36Love it.
07:37Good, because for your first challenge, you must use materials found in your apartment.
07:47This first challenge, like always, is about innovation.
07:51This means that curtains, bed sheets, rugs, wall hangings, lampshades, food, furniture,
07:57all of these are the raw materials for this challenge.
08:00That was shocking.
08:02It was like, you want us to rip up our apartment?
08:05I was really excited, because when I was a kid, it would have been my dream to be able
08:09to go around the house and cut anything and make clothes out of whatever I wanted.
08:14You will create an outfit that expresses who you are as a designer.
08:19Each of you will find a black box on your bed.
08:22It contains scissors, pliers, and a laundry bag.
08:25Use these tools to source your materials.
08:28The designer who touches the object first gets it.
08:32I was irritated that the materials that we would have to use would be bed sheets and interior
08:37fabrics.
08:39I myself prefer better quality fabrics.
08:41You have 15 minutes to collect whatever you can fit into your laundry bag.
08:45And the 15 minutes start now.
08:48So good luck, and I'll see you on the runway.
08:49Everyone was in such a rush that it was like cattle trying to get to a feeder.
09:09I instantly knew what I wanted, because I knew everything that was in that apartment.
09:19I immediately went for the fur and the sparkles.
09:27I knew if I had those in my hand, I could somehow create fabulousness.
09:34I knew immediately I wanted the chaise lounge with couch.
09:38It was brown leather with top stitching.
09:41There's a strategy here.
09:42One is offensive, which is find the stuff that you need to make your garment.
09:48But then there's the defensive strategy.
09:49Taking things just because they were still there, so that others didn't take them.
09:54Angela looks like she's coming from a yard sale.
09:57Everything but the kitchen sink.
10:04I just feel like there's got to be something I missed.
10:07Oh, sweet.
10:08That was my pillowcase cover.
10:13Well, you touched it?
10:14No, it's just mine.
10:15I brought it with me.
10:17I'm a huge baby, so I travel with my own pillow.
10:20And Bradley took the pillowcase off, and he's getting all excited.
10:24And I was like, that's my pillow.
10:25It was sort of irritating just to see how inappropriate people will act.
10:29I don't want to live here after this.
10:47I had no idea what I wanted to make.
10:59Absolutely no idea.
11:00Our work is more than cut out for us.
11:04Coming up on Project Runway.
11:11I look around the room.
11:12It's just a blur of remedial, intermediate bullshit.
11:15I want to roll this thread forward.
11:17Whether it works or not for doing that.
11:19Using a basic machine is something that all the designers should know how to do, like, instantly.
11:24The challenge is to create a piece of women's wear from all of the elements of the apartment.
11:38I think everyone is having to do some serious editing of the objects they grab from the room
11:45because a hanging plant might not make it into your runway look for good reason.
11:54Hello, designers.
11:55Hi, Tim.
11:56Can I ask all of you to gather around?
12:00Welcome to Parsons, the new school for design.
12:03This is your workspace.
12:05You have until 1 a.m. tonight to finish your look.
12:10Remember to be innovative and show us who you are as a designer.
12:15We have assigned you a model for this first challenge, and that model's measurements are on your work table.
12:20One very important thing, the winner of this challenge will have immunity and therefore cannot be eliminated in the next challenge.
12:29Good luck and make it work.
12:32Make it work.
12:36Let the drama begin.
12:38I'm completely freaking out about the time limit.
12:42I just basically want to finish a garment and I'll be thrilled.
12:44I do a ton of pageant gowns.
12:47Normally, I deal with fabrics like silk charmeuse, silk chiffon.
12:50Obviously, a rubber doormat is a little bit of a stretch for me.
12:56I am a menswear designer, so I personally have never made a dress in my life, but I know I have it in me.
13:04I probably have the best taste here, so I think it's going to be really, really hot.
13:09I know construction, like the back of my hand.
13:15I love making clothes, so I'm not really worried.
13:19I haven't figured out who this is going to be yet.
13:22Look at all the feathers around here.
13:24Trying to get at any people who have feather allergies.
13:27Take them out early.
13:27Strategic.
13:31What are you doing?
13:33You'll see if it comes through.
13:34I started designing about three years ago, so it's the first time I've used industrial sewing machines.
13:46I want to roll the thread forward.
13:48What is it worse than not?
13:49What's the need at?
13:50Using a basic machine is something that all the designers should know how to do, like, instantly.
13:55Stacy's like, man, these machines, they're just not working really good.
13:59And it's like, no, you just don't know how to use machines, so.
14:02I started having problems with the sewing machines, so I'm switching to hand sewing.
14:14Hi, everybody.
14:16Vincent.
14:18Do these pockets look too much like cartoons?
14:21I dig this with this.
14:23I think it's a crazy...
14:24Oh, look, if you...
14:25I dig it.
14:26I mean, I think it's just a crazy...
14:27If you believe in your moments, that's fine.
14:28I don't know.
14:28Poor Vincent, man.
14:29The guy is, you know, he's obviously nuts.
14:32I'm trying to work in this crazy habit.
14:34I don't know if it works.
14:35Well, I think the basket on its own isn't enough.
14:38I had more change.
14:41Wow, good idea.
14:42It's working.
14:48So, Jeffrey.
14:49I spent most of the time with the most difficult piece at first, which is this jacket.
14:54I want to make something that isn't just different, but better than what everybody else is making.
15:01Well, I've got to get the dress, because you can't just wear a jacket.
15:03No.
15:04I don't know.
15:05I feel like this is competing with that.
15:07I just question it.
15:09All right.
15:10Carry on.
15:11Keep doing it.
15:11I had some sewing machine problems.
15:19I'm just putting this on so you can at least try to get some idea of it.
15:23When Tim came around, I was still in the middle of sewing a lot of the pieces, and he was very quiet.
15:32I don't know about those.
15:34Yeah?
15:34You think it's kind of trappy?
15:36It looks like you just want to use them.
15:37You know, the other thing I could do is possibly work them into this sash.
15:42Actually, that could be quite neat, too.
15:44Oh, that's quite special.
15:50That's not a good Tim face.
15:51Don't think you have to add just to take it over the top.
15:55Okay.
15:56Yeah, you've got to make it work.
15:57Carry on.
15:58Okay.
15:59All right?
16:02Hey, what was this?
16:04This is a pet sheet.
16:07I'm playing the part of the judges.
16:09Is it so close to fabric that this wasn't really an innovation challenge for you?
16:15I know of the people that will be judging, and some of them, I don't particularly respect their, you know, style.
16:23So, if they have criticism, maybe it'll be good, and maybe I'll just dismiss it.
16:28We'll see.
16:30I mean, I'd try it.
16:34Okay.
16:35At least try it.
16:39All right, everybody.
16:43You have an hour.
16:44Try to get the lion's share of what you need to get done, done tonight.
16:49I'll see you in the morning.
16:58I look around the room.
17:00It's just a blur of remedial, intermediate bullshit.
17:03I don't see any design in the room that inspires me, aside from mine.
17:08I think Jeffrey's garment is that sort of mistake of wanting to do too much, when you really need to sort of focus on the strengths and edit out what might be weak.
17:17I'm hoping to do a second layer of this skirt, but I'm just having to kind of shift my design around recognizing the time constraint.
17:36The most important thing is just getting a finished garment so that it can be walked down the runway tomorrow morning.
17:43This was our first really long, hard day of grinding work in the workroom.
17:49We were all exhausted and ready to lay down.
17:54Hello.
17:55Damn!
17:57The room is still...
17:59Are you serious?
18:00Something told me to grab that damn comforter.
18:03I thought that by the time we returned to the apartment, things were going to be cleaned up.
18:16I was totally pissed off.
18:17I'm like, fuck it!
18:19I have no quilt!
18:21Oh my God, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm so...
18:24Man, I can't believe I trashed my bed.
18:28Is this going to be the whole time?
18:30Nothing had been changed or cleaned up, but I was so fried.
18:33I just wanted to sleep.
18:35I think it all sucks.
18:39Coming up on Project Runway.
18:41Let's look at this kooky hat, yeah.
18:44Vincent's model has this crazy hat on that looked like she was trying to get beamed up to Mars.
18:50Beautiful.
18:59I have a pretty strong feeling that I'm not going to be eliminated today.
19:06And I can't wait to meet my model.
19:09Models and runway shows are always the cherry on the cake.
19:14Going into the first elimination show, I feel confident.
19:17I have my own style and it's very different than everyone else's.
19:22So the rest will have to see what happens.
19:24All right.
19:36The night before, Tim had asked me to maybe incorporate more stuff from the apartment into the dress.
19:44So I put like a placemat on it and these little ringlets.
19:48And then I slept on it and like I just couldn't wait to tear that all off and go back to the original design.
19:53Sorry, Tim.
19:57I wanted it to look like a beautiful dress.
20:00I hate it.
20:00I hate it.
20:08That jacket looks so hot.
20:11It makes me think of like Clara Bow or something in the, you know.
20:15Yeah, I'm about to glue on the glamour now.
20:19All right, here it goes.
20:21I think my work is elegant, it's restrained, it's glamorous.
20:26It's very New York.
20:27I can't do this.
20:29I swear.
20:30You know how to do it.
20:30What do you want?
20:31Yeah, go ahead.
20:31There we go.
20:32I needed to finish my garment so that it would be ready by the time the model arrived.
20:38Still, still some work to do.
20:39You think of coffee and you think gross, like I think gross.
20:43I think gross, too.
20:44But you look at this and you think beautiful.
20:46This looks soft and like it would smell like Febreze.
20:50Hi, everybody.
20:52Hello.
20:53How are you?
20:53I just want to make an announcement about the next three hours.
20:59Your models are going to be coming in momentarily.
21:02You will be going to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room, the Trésame hair salon, and use the Macy's
21:09accessory wall as well as you can.
21:12When your models come in, they are going to find you.
21:15And we're sending them in now.
21:21You want to go?
21:22Yeah.
21:23Hi.
21:23How are you doing?
21:24Ken?
21:25Oh, my God.
21:26I would win for that.
21:28Okay, hold on.
21:30I don't know what to do.
21:33Double-sided tape and lots of it.
21:37It is really, really sheer.
21:40Ay-yi-yi.
21:41The skirt was far too sheer to send down the runway.
21:44It would have been a little bit too provocative for my taste.
21:47So I'm adding just a nice little coquettish, sexy underwear that go underneath the skirt.
21:55Yeah, you know what?
21:56That's going to be fine.
21:57Okay, now let's look at this.
22:00Let's look at this kooky hat.
22:03Yeah, I like that.
22:04And I like these a lot.
22:06Let me look at these.
22:07I'm looking forward now.
22:09Vincent's model had this crazy hat on that looked like she was trying to get beamed up.
22:14To Mars.
22:17Liking those glasses.
22:18Let's go to the mirror, me new.
22:20The hat just ruined the whole style.
22:23And I wanted to say something to him, but he was so proud of that hat.
22:28It's a last-minute touch.
22:30I have to.
22:31I don't know.
22:31I should just do this, I think.
22:39I had a makeup artist do sort of a 80s, new wave makeup.
22:45And then I had the stylist sculpted Jay's hair into this mohawk.
22:51I ended up being very happy with her.
22:57Now, just release her hair for me and show me something what they would look like.
23:02Just, just give me, give me, give me a quick, a quick view on this.
23:11That's it.
23:14It's, it's doing it.
23:15Yeah.
23:16Oh, my God, yeah.
23:21Designers, can I have your attention?
23:23Yeah.
23:24This is your first runway presentation, and we are ready to go.
23:31So, bring your model and follow me.
23:34Coming up on Project Runway.
23:42There's a lot going on.
23:44Very unflattering fit on top.
23:46I couldn't get past the feathers.
23:48Seems a little messy.
23:50You're wondering how many drinks did she have.
23:57Hello.
24:00Welcome to the runway.
24:01As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day you're out.
24:06There are 15 of you now.
24:08Three will make it to Olympus Fashion Week,
24:10where one of you will be named the winner of Project Runway.
24:14The winner will receive a spread in Elle magazine,
24:17a mentorship with Inc. International Concepts Design,
24:21a year of representation from Designers Management Agency,
24:25a brand new 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster,
24:28and $100,000 to start their own line.
24:31Furnished by Tresemme, professional hair care.
24:34Your first challenge was about innovation.
24:37We asked you to create a garment that expresses who you are as a designer,
24:41using materials found in your apartments.
24:44Let's meet the judges.
24:46First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
24:49Hey, guys.
24:49Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine.
24:55And sitting across from you is our guest judge, designer Kate Spade.
25:01We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
25:04The designer with the highest score will be named the winner.
25:08The winner will receive immunity for the next challenge
25:11and cannot be eliminated.
25:13Let's start the show.
25:24The runway show was surreal.
25:27Your heart is pounding.
25:28It was amazing.
25:30My entire body was smiling.
25:32I've never had a garment go down a runway.
25:46It was, like, really, really emotional for me.
25:49It was awesome.
25:50I almost cried.
25:51I thought my dress was really the prettiest dress.
25:59Mine was, like, a real dress.
26:02All the others were costuming.
26:12Everything came together so perfectly.
26:15It was just completely serendipitous.
26:16I felt like a five-year-old on Christmas Eve.
26:27I probably changed the bottom of my dress about three or four times.
26:33But I ended up making it work,
26:35and I feel really, really good about my garment.
26:37I was concerned.
26:47I mean, I thought that maybe the art elements of the design might be misperceived.
26:51I think I started shaking for the first time in probably 15 years.
26:56When I saw my garment coming down the runway,
27:06the only thing I could think of was,
27:08oh, my gosh, I hope her boobs don't fall out.
27:10But it looked great on her.
27:19I felt confident about my garment,
27:21but I never know what they're going to think.
27:23They could just think it was horrible.
27:24It was a lot more nerve-wracking than I expected it to be.
27:37All I was thinking was,
27:39I'm going to win the challenge, damn it.
27:40I'm going to have only a piece on that wall of fame.
27:42I don't want to go out on the first run.
27:55I was grooving on my thing, you know.
27:56I thought it was cool.
27:57I set out to do something, and I got it done,
27:59and that's important to me.
28:10I was really thrilled, actually,
28:11with how everything turned out.
28:13So, after all, the hard work and stress,
28:17it was actually a reward.
28:27I was ecstatic,
28:28because I thought she just looked beautiful,
28:30and you could see the sheerness of the skirt,
28:32and it was just so ethereal and romantic.
28:35She really just wore that dress perfectly.
28:41I was thrilled.
28:46There's not really anything that I would have changed.
28:49It came out pretty much exactly as I had hoped.
28:51When I saw my garment walking down the runway,
29:01I was really, really happy with the result,
29:04and also Katja really helped to pull it off.
29:07I think my garment is going to say,
29:19I'm a forward-thinking designer.
29:21I expect to win.
29:23I know that I'm going to win.
29:24I came to win.
29:25We've scored your designs.
29:47Will the following designers please step forward?
29:51Will the following designers please step forward?
30:21Can I have called your name?
30:23Congratulations.
30:25Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
30:29Please leave the runway.
30:43The six remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores.
30:47One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
30:55Let's bring out your models.
30:56I would like to start with Laura.
31:12I first would like to know just what were the materials.
31:14I mean, I'm assuming that is the color for a rug?
31:17Yes, the collar and cuffs were made from a rug and the leaves came from a chandelier.
31:23It's chic and it's wearable.
31:25It's tailored nicely.
31:27I can kind of see you wearing that.
31:29I mean, it's a bit noisy.
31:30It is noisy.
31:31It's noisy.
31:32It's not for a wallflower.
31:33No, it's for the gal who wants to stand out.
31:35That's right.
31:36Vincent, I would have done it without the hat, I have to say.
31:44Can we see it once without the hat?
31:45Do you mind?
31:46I don't mind at all.
31:47I think actually the hat threw me off a little and I don't think I even looked at the dress
31:52as much as I should have.
31:53I see it much more now.
31:54I think the hat is taken away from how cute the dress is.
31:57Did you feel the hat was innovative?
32:00Is that why you added the accessories?
32:02I felt that I am very clean, classic driven, but I want to try to keep it interesting.
32:10Well, with the hat, you're wondering how many drinks did she have?
32:13To be honest with you, I'll tell you the truth.
32:15I was in question of the hat.
32:17I was in question.
32:18I truly was because I was, I'm not trying to get out of this floor, whatever.
32:22I'm having a good time here, you know?
32:23I just, you know.
32:24I think sometimes less is more.
32:27Perhaps you're right.
32:28Keith, the first thing I thought when your dress came out, I thought it was really well
32:33made.
32:34What is it exactly?
32:36It's bedding and home accessories, but my bag was full of stuff.
32:42And like these two images came into my head.
32:45Gone with the Wind and The Cal Burnett Show.
32:49My favorite episode.
32:50Okay, you know what I'm talking about, right?
32:52And to me, the innovation here is that you can be totally broke.
32:57I need to go out and look totally hot.
33:01And that's what Scarlett O'Hara did.
33:03But then like when Cal Burnett did it in the show, she looked like she was wearing a curtain
33:08rod.
33:08And I didn't want her to look like she was wearing a curtain rod.
33:12Can I see the back and tell me about those buttons?
33:15The buttons are from a duvet cover.
33:17It's adorable.
33:19This looks very believable.
33:21I think it's very chic.
33:23There's no joke to it at all.
33:24Exactly.
33:25Thanks.
33:28Stacy?
33:29What is your design aesthetic?
33:32What is your personality?
33:34I mean, as a designer, I first look at the silhouette.
33:36That's very important to me that there's something that's sensuous about it.
33:39And I made a little panty so that there is that provocative little flair.
33:45I have to say it makes it a little naughty.
33:48I never like that.
33:49But then how wearable is it?
33:50Oh, why are you wearing it?
33:51Now, do you really want people to see your big step in briefs?
33:54I mean, people think it's a mistake.
33:57To me, it kind of looks like you ran out of time and couldn't figure it out rather than
34:02making something look believably finished.
34:06It was an ambitious undertaking.
34:08I mean, I think the idea is nice.
34:10The idea of the execution.
34:11It's the execution of it.
34:12I mean, I think it seems so, it was a little, a little messy.
34:16And it's a very unflattering fit on top.
34:20It fits her like the pillows are still in the pillowcase.
34:25Robert, do you want to tell us a little bit about your dress?
34:28Certainly.
34:29It's made out of a duvet cover, fitted bed sheets, and some silver wall hangings.
34:35And I transformed it to the straps.
34:37And it's a little bit of a Maria from West Side Story.
34:41If she had, like, wall hangings.
34:43Can we see from the back?
34:45Mm-hmm.
34:46The back is really beautiful.
34:48I like sort of surprise details like that, too, where from the front coming, she's one
34:52way, and from the back, it's sort of a nice...
34:53Yeah, it's very three-dimensional.
34:54And you don't have to wear any jewelry.
34:56You're already done.
34:56You're done.
34:57And have jewelry, will travel.
34:59It's charming.
35:02Jeffrey, tell us a little bit about your outfit.
35:05I don't even know where to begin.
35:06There's a lot going on.
35:07There's a lot going on.
35:08Yeah.
35:09You're like, I don't even know where to begin.
35:10Start with the outer layer and work your way down.
35:11There's a lot going on.
35:12Start with the feathers.
35:13I was a production designer for a long time.
35:15I like shows.
35:15I love putting on shows.
35:16I actually think the feathers, strangely enough, distracted from the outfit.
35:20Absolutely distracted.
35:22I feel like both pieces together, there was a lot going on.
35:25I started in this business making jackets, so I thought, I'm going to make a motorcycle
35:33rock and roll cut jacket, and I wanted to show you all a dress doing this reconstructed
35:38thing.
35:40To see the dress without the jacket, I have a better understanding of what you were going
35:45for.
35:45Together, it made it seem messy.
35:47Yeah, together, it was like...
35:48I couldn't even tell what it was, to be honest.
35:49Yeah, there was a lot of different lengths.
35:52In the front, it was really long.
35:53It was shredded, short in the back.
35:55I just think that's sexy.
35:56I kind of like, from the side, I really, and this is the reason I did her hair this
36:01way, I just kind of, maybe some subconscious influence of animation that I'm into or whatever
36:08it is, but when I looked at the design of it, I just really liked the way it looks.
36:12You had to explain a lot for us to understand what it all meant.
36:15I had a lot going through my head.
36:16I think you have to be careful.
36:18If you do put a lot of layers into the clothes, which obviously you do, you don't have to
36:23go in for the overkill.
36:24Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
36:29We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back onto the runway.
36:34My favorite was Keith and Robert.
36:51I mean, I will say that, you know, Robert's dress, I thought was very charming.
36:57The back was really pretty.
36:58Really, like, modern.
37:00And it fit amazing.
37:01It fit beautifully.
37:02The necklaces were heaven.
37:06Keith's overall presentation.
37:09The hair with the beads.
37:10The whole thing.
37:11I love the buttons in the back.
37:13Yeah, yeah.
37:13The minute she turned the corner, she turned you on.
37:15Yeah.
37:16It was emotional.
37:20So let's talk about Laura.
37:22Oh, I love that coat.
37:23Yes, she thought about it.
37:25It was her personality.
37:26She did get creative.
37:28You see the rug.
37:29The funny thing is, as soon as she walked out, I said, that's so her.
37:33Yeah.
37:36Vincent.
37:37I have to say, when I walked out, the hat took me so off, I think I focused one on how much
37:43I didn't like the hat.
37:44When he said, well, I was afraid it would be boring.
37:46Yep.
37:46You've got to just go for it.
37:48Because he ended up sticking that crazy basket on her head.
37:55Stacey's.
37:55It was all over the place.
37:57Her ID, I kind of understood where it was going.
37:59It could have been very pretty.
38:00I just don't think she executed it well.
38:01It looked like she took the white sheets from her bed and just, I mean, yes, she didn't.
38:05She took the shower curtain, but I couldn't really tell.
38:08Then a big boy short on Denise.
38:10Like, oh yeah, you're a Lauren.
38:11Wearing your grandma's panties.
38:16Jeffrey.
38:17First, when I saw him, I was like, oh no, we have another Santino.
38:20Someone that does everything shredded and undone.
38:24I mean, I have to say, when I initially saw it, I thought it seemed just messy.
38:27I never understand this whole thing about dresses short in the back and long.
38:30No, I didn't get that either.
38:35We know what we're doing?
38:36Yep.
38:37Let's call them back out.
38:38The six of you will present the best and the worst.
38:52One of you will be named the winner.
38:54And one of you will be out.
38:56The six of you will present the best and the worst.
39:06One of you will be named the winner.
39:09And one of you will be out.
39:13Laura,
39:14you're in.
39:16You can leave the runway.
39:17Okay.
39:18And now for the winner.
39:31Congratulations.
39:35Keith.
39:39All right.
39:40You also will have immunity for the next challenge and cannot be eliminated.
39:45You can leave the runway.
39:52This was the first dress that I've ever made.
39:54And I won.
39:56It's cool.
39:58Come on.
39:59Give it up.
39:59You're in.
40:13Vincent.
40:14You're in.
40:15You can leave the runway.
40:16You can leave the runway.
40:28Stacy.
40:29Jeffrey.
40:31One of you will be out.
40:37Jeffrey.
40:38You tried to do too much.
40:40The result was distracting and unfocused.
40:43And the two pieces did not go together.
40:50Stacy.
40:51You didn't choose innovative materials.
40:54You could have saved it with execution.
40:57But you failed there too.
41:07Stacy.
41:08Stacy.
41:10You're out.
41:13Jeffrey.
41:13That means you're in.
41:15You can leave the runway.
41:23Stacy.
41:23Bye.
41:24Auf Wiedersehen.
41:25Bye.
41:32My own feeling was the design that I made was absolutely true to who I am as a designer.
41:38And that's what I wanted to send down the runway.
41:40Somebody had to go.
41:42And it was really tough.
41:43Stacy.
41:44So you need to go up to the workroom and clean up your space.
41:47What's next for Stacy Estreya?
41:48I don't know.
41:50Bye.
41:50Bye, Stacy.
41:51I believe that there are no accidents.
41:55Every experience you have takes you to the next one.
41:57And you don't always know what doors it's going to open.
42:04This season on Project Runway.
42:05Are you guys ready for your next challenge?
42:07Oh, my God.
42:12Don't worry.
42:13Let's go.
42:13Let's go.
42:16Enough.
42:16Not this morning.
42:17Keith, he's really just become a major head.
42:20Your response will want to fix it.
42:22Take your macaroni art and go home.
42:25It has nothing to do with whether I like it or not.
42:26Shut up.
42:27I don't understand why these people can't get along.
42:28This is completely against the rules of the show.
42:41It's the dawn of apocalypse now.
42:43Are you a Virgo?
42:43No, I'm an architect.
42:44It looks like she's been in an accident.
42:46I made three different outfits.
42:48It's so lame.
42:49If one of you would have to go, who would it be?
42:52I just don't want to go home when it wasn't my vision.
42:54This was the nightmare of my life.
42:56You have to live now.
