00:00It's Nicole with the one and only Randy Howzer, how are you?
00:03I'm good, how are you?
00:04So, I'm good, but why do we only see each other in extreme weather?
00:08I'm trying to say, where was it, where were we pre-zoned?
00:10The toy truck parade.
00:11Oh my God.
00:12Yeah, we were in Haddonfield, you were so nice to be the group.
00:15And my hat, my hat went down.
00:17Yeah, and then you performed for us.
00:18It was so cool.
00:19And it was right before your birthday, we got you a birthday cake.
00:21That's true, thank you guys.
00:23Yeah, but I was like.
00:24One of the coldest ones I can remember.
00:26Oh my God, it was, in fact, Raz, he was supposed to be here today.
00:29And he didn't make it, and he was just like, just say thank you again.
00:32You know, because he was such a, I'm like, you know, we do it for the kids.
00:35But we were all like, thank you for coming to the kids.
00:39Yeah, absolutely.
00:41Yeah, but it was so nice because we met at the one location,
00:43and then you rode on the fire truck to the other, and then you performed for us.
00:46And then we were trying to sing happy birthday, and the wind was blowing,
00:48that we couldn't get the candles out.
00:50Everybody in the crowd was even super nice for staying as long as they did.
00:54Well, of course, we wanted to see you.
00:55It was like, it was music, but it was still fun.
00:59And now it's 100 degrees, it's Jersey Shore, so.
01:01Well, here we are.
01:02Here we are.
01:03Yee-haw, everybody.
01:05Wait, so tell me about, you've been doing this a long time.
01:08Do you, you do your own shows, you do festivals, it's a different vibe.
01:13What is a festival like?
01:14Like what, is it just people are rowdy or drunker, or like,
01:18is it more that they're just like living life, you know?
01:21I think, you know, I mean, the culture of the festival is, you know,
01:25everybody's had three or four days off, and they're taking time off work,
01:29so they're going to rage.
01:31Yeah.
01:31If they're into that, they're going to go hard.
01:33Yeah.
01:34So they are sometimes a little more rowdy, but, you know, I love that.
01:39Yeah.
01:39But there's also, you know, we do our own shows, we kind of know what to expect,
01:43but like, when you're going, and you're doing a show for people who tend to see
01:48many different kinds of country artists.
01:49Yeah, which is cool, yeah.
01:51Yeah.
01:51Which is very cool.
01:52You don't know, you know, there's a little, um, there's a little anxiety about how,
01:58how's, where do I fit into this?
01:59Right, that makes sense, because, I mean, you've had a lot of hits,
02:03and you've been doing this a long time, but it's still,
02:05if there's somebody maybe that is a fan of another artist, you're like,
02:08are they going to know all my songs?
02:09Are they going to sing?
02:09Or any of them.
02:10No, yes, of course they will, of course they will.
02:13No, wait, you are in the beautiful, uh, Canadian tuxedo.
02:16Will you change into short sleeve before you go out there?
02:19No, this is one more.
02:20This you're going to wear?
02:20I mean, I basically got it.
02:21Yeah, you're just used to it.
02:23Yeah, it's like, I'm one of those people, I like a uniform.
02:26Yeah.
02:27You know what I mean?
02:28I don't know how to explain that, but it's so much easier for me.
02:31I'm half colorblind, like, I really am.
02:33Oh, you are, okay.
02:34Yeah, so like, I have, I have trouble, like, uh, picking out blacks and blues.
02:39And matching things, yeah.
02:40And so, I screw it.
02:42And you're just like, hey, look cool.
02:43And everybody's like my Canadian tuxedo, I'm like, what am I supposed to wear, khaki?
02:47Wait, tell me about your awesome cross here.
02:50Is there a story behind that?
02:52No, I've just had it for about 15 years or something like that.
02:54Yeah, it's very cool.
02:55It's like little roses.
02:56Yeah.
02:57And, uh, on a cross.
02:58Yeah, it's very, it's just like, it adds a pop to it.
03:01Oh, I like that.
03:02Yeah, so how's your summer going?
03:04Are you winding down?
03:05Like, do you get excited for the fall?
03:07Or do you like performing like crazy during the summer?
03:09I, I mean, you know, we've been going, we have really slowed down since, we, we took
03:15about a month off in December, January, end of December, January, and then, but other than
03:23that, we've been doing so far with, so we were, um, I think we did our, we, we started
03:31tooling with Cody Johnson back in like September of last year, and we went right on up to like,
03:37the middle of December, and we came right back up.
03:40Do you call him Kojo?
03:40I call him Kojo.
03:43But you do have the, yeah, do you ever trade hats?
03:47No.
03:47No, you're like, this is mine.
03:48That's yours.
03:49Yeah.
03:51Yeah.
03:51So you have kids, you have two kids?
03:53I have three kids.
03:54Three kids.
03:54So, like, when the school year starts, are you home more, or how does that work for them?
04:00Does dad mode click on?
04:02I mean, dad mode for me is like a quick switch, because when I get off the bus, or, you know,
04:09when I'm packing my stuff on the bus, I'm going with dad.
04:11Yeah.
04:12You know, so it's, uh, and then, and then it's weird, because you kind of have to,
04:16you have to keep a big piece of that, but you also have to be in this mode.
04:20Yeah, yeah.
04:22But no, I mean, you know, um, I just, I mean, like, for right now, I'm just working so much,
04:29I believe it.
04:30You know, my, my little boy Huckleberry starts his first day of preschool on Monday.
04:36So will you go home right after this?
04:37No, no, I, I still, I'll be out until Tuesday.
04:40Oh, wow, okay.
04:41I have a show Tuesday night.
04:42Okay.
04:43We have a night off tomorrow, getting there, and then I get home Wednesday, so I'll be there
04:48his third day.
04:50Third day.
04:50And you can FaceTime, I guess, which is good, too.
04:52Yeah, we do that a lot.
04:54Yeah, which is good.
04:55But that must be hard, you know?
04:56It is.
04:57Yeah, it's really hard.
04:58I mean, it's like, you know, seeing your, seeing your babies grow up a little more every
05:02time you get home.
05:03Do they get what you do yet?
05:05Yeah, well, Huck does, but he's also, like, gotten to that age.
05:09He's four now, and so, like, the other day, this week, when I was leaving, he, he sees my
05:16suitcases come out, and he gets a little.
05:18Yeah.
05:18And then he was standing in front of the door, asking me out to leave.
05:21Oh, that's so tough.
05:23People, people, it is tough.
05:25You know, there's a lot of sacrifices coming with what we do, but, you know, this is what
05:31I love to do.
05:32I love to, you know, I was talking with Ian Burgess earlier, and he was talking about all
05:36the social media stuff that he has to do to try to break his new artist, and I'm like,
05:42man, I'm so thankful that I came along after that, and before that.
05:45Yeah, before that, yeah.
05:46And, you know, I still am expected to do a lot of that stuff, but it's just not, you
05:51know, I got into this for the, to write the songs, record the songs, and then play the
05:55songs.
05:56Songs, yeah.
05:56You know?
05:57It's a different world.
05:57It really is, yeah.
05:58It really is, and, and, and to go and, you know, play music with people, you know?
06:04Right.
06:05So, it's a little weird.
06:06I'm not one of those people who likes the camera in my face all the time.
06:09But when you get on stage, you have this, you have that thing, though.
06:12Like, I've seen her perform.
06:13Like, you're kind of, you just are like, ah, you have that ick factor, yeah, yeah.
06:18All right, so you don't love the socials, but people who,
06:21want to follow you, how can they follow you?
06:22Well, I mean, you know, I guess I may, I may post something once a year on TikTok.
06:30At least you know what TikTok is.
06:32Yeah, well, I want, you know, obviously Instagram, you know, and, you know, Twitter or whatever it's
06:38called now, X or something like that.
06:40See, you know what's going on.
06:41You know.
06:42I do, I do, I like to look at other people.
06:46Yeah.
06:46It's all right, we're not live.
06:49It's okay.
06:50Other people's stuff.
06:51I like to look at other people's stuff, especially at that.
06:56But, you know, and I'll post on every now and then, but I'll just, you know.
07:00Yeah.
07:01It is a little weird.
07:02I know.
07:02I mean, it's Randy Hauser, everybody.
07:05Thank you again.
07:06It was so good to see you.
