00:12And you know what? Some of them have your name on it.

00:16I've been fortunate enough to do this for 10 years now,
00:20and you've always, always supported us.
00:21Good to be back in the area and a heck of a lineup tonight.
00:25So I read somewhere where, for a while, you were suffering from stage fright.
00:30I was shocked when I read that.
00:32Yeah, I mean, when I first started singing in college,
00:35I had to have a few beverages before I'd get up there.
00:38It was nerve-wracking, you know, but now it's...
00:40Somebody wrote in there this one article that, like,
00:43did you talk to Jody about that a little bit?
00:46Oh, yeah, at the ACMs.
00:48I was just, you know, people ask me all the time,
00:50they're like, do you get nervous?
00:51I'm like, I'm used to it now.
00:52And any nerves are just me ready to run out there and put on a show.
00:56But, you know, those live TV moments at award shows,
00:59those are, I mean, if I'm being honest, those are nerve-wracking.
01:01Well, just so you know, the great Barbara Streisand had stage fright,
01:05as great as she was.
01:06And people don't understand that, but it's just, hey,
01:08there's a lot riding on that.
01:09There's a lot of people out there that paid their hard-earned money,
01:12and you've got to go give them the best show you can.
01:14And so that's the only nerves that are just wanting to do good.
01:17I think Blake Shelton told Luke Bryan one time
01:19when they were hosting one of the award shows,
01:21because Luke was nervous, and he said,
01:22if you weren't nervous, you know, it wouldn't mean anything to you.
01:24So I take it like that, and I do.
01:27I don't take it for granted I get to do this.
01:29So any nerves are just honestly wanting to put on a good show.
01:32Well, you do definitely do that.
01:34And you've been on this, actually, this is the same beach
01:36that runs all the way down to Wildwood,
01:38and you've been on several beach shows here in New Jersey.
01:40Is it a different crowd?
01:41It is, and I was just walking back from an interview by the beach,
01:46and DJ Silver was about to go on, and he told somebody,
01:49he said, this is probably the best early crowd we've ever had,
01:51and he does all these festivals.
01:53So that's a huge compliment.
01:55And like I said, it's why we love coming up here
01:57and playing country music.
01:58I don't get this kind of reception in Georgia, in my home state.
02:01I don't think so.
02:02I'm kidding.
02:03But it really is amazing just to see, you know,
02:05there's country fans everywhere,
02:06and from what I'm hearing tonight, it's going to be special.
02:09Yeah, I guarantee if you step out at a Bulldogs game,
02:15you'll get a good reaction.
02:17Yeah, no, I was kidding.
02:18It's just amazing.
02:19It feels like home.
02:20I mean, a lot of places we go, and that's because of the fans.
02:22I mean, I was just telling somebody,
02:24we're going to get up there and do what we do every night,
02:26but if they're in it, if they're singing along,
02:28and their energy's good, our show's going to be twice as good,
02:30and I just got a feeling that's what it's going to have.
02:33You're going to have a great time tonight.
02:34Now, you've been out most of the year with Nate and Thomas Rett,
02:37and that's a pretty powerful combination,
02:40and Nate, he had such a great reception out there just a little while ago.
02:43That's what I heard.
02:43I know I just missed his set,
02:45but I get to see it out on the road every night.
02:47We're in arenas, so to be outdoors with this beautiful day,
02:50I mean, the weather's perfect,
02:51and he's just one of the brightest new stars of our format,
02:55and what a voice and his songs.
02:57I mean, he's just a good person too, man.
03:00I've been pulling for him for a while,
03:01and to be on tour has been cool.
03:03So, Thomas Rett, you've guys known each other,
03:05so you guys pretty much came up at the same time, right?
03:08Do you remember working like years ago coming up?
03:11I remember, yeah, I think we were on some cruise back in 2013 or 2014,
03:17and I remember me and him talking about this.
03:19Like one day we're going to be having our own tour and doing that.
03:23So to put something like that out there
03:25and then see where we are 10 years later pretty much is just –
03:28it means a lot, and he's another person that –
03:31I always say he's younger than me,
03:32but I've always looked up to him, man, just a great guy,
03:34and his show, I mean, I get to watch it every night.
03:37Like he is the definition of an entertainer.
03:40I hope he knows how much I enjoy getting to see that,
03:43and those fans tonight, they're in for a treat.
03:46Do you guys do anything together?
03:47We just started playing golf.
03:49I love – you know, golf is really –
03:50I need more hobbies, to be honest with you,
03:51but other than what I get to do for a living,
03:54golf is what I honestly love, and now he's obsessed with it.
03:57He's trying to get his handicap down, and he's been playing a lot,
03:59so we're getting to play on the road when we can,
04:00and I know he's a busy man back at home,
04:02so when we're out on the road, we try to get some golf in.
04:05So, yeah, when you see him, tell him I'm ready to play again.
04:08Okay.
04:09Well, we'll talk on the wagers, and we'll see how you guys do out there.

04:12So do you have a thing – so I found a rope when I was at this nautical place
04:17in Ireland, and I found this great, cool nautical rope,
04:20and I have it on the gear shifter of my car.
04:22Yeah.
04:22Is there something that you have in your personal life like that
04:25that you just go, that doesn't mean anything to anybody,
04:27just like a little old thing, but it's yours and gives you –
04:31That's a good question.
04:31I carry something in my wallet that my dad carried,
04:34and I just keep it in there, and it's something personal to him,
04:38so I always carry it around with me everywhere I go.
04:41But it's – yeah, it probably wouldn't mean anything to anybody else,
04:44but to me, it's just – I don't know,
04:46just a little piece of him that I get to carry around.
04:48Well, that's – I know your dad was always tight and always at your shows,
04:51and that's a tremendous memory.
04:53Yeah.

05:01You know, we're not going to get to do it together,
05:03but the fans out there, they get to hear the original
05:05and my little rendition of it, but it's –
05:09I thought maybe you guys were going to carve out a little bit.

05:10If she's still around, I don't know where she's heading after this,
05:13but if she's still around, we did one other festival together,
05:15and I got to at least bring her out on stage to show people, you know,
05:19why I have that song, and I got them to sing a chorus to her,
05:23and it was just – hopefully we can do that tonight if she's still around,
05:25but it's – I wish – hopefully I can get out there and hear the original, man.
05:29That always takes me back, and it's not just that song.
05:31She's got so many hits, and I'm just so happy for her and just everything,
05:36to call her a friend now and everything that's happened over the last year.
05:39Well, I'm proud of you.
05:41I remember we first met you years ago, and congratulations on your personal life.
05:46That's always hard to do when you're working on the road.
05:48It is, and I – you know, but looking back, I think it's all been worth it.
05:51I think everything you go through gets you where you are,
05:54and for a while I didn't know if it was going to happen,
05:56but here I'm as happy as I've ever been, and just career-wise, personally,
06:02it just all seems to be coming together, and that's just –
06:05you think you know how something's going to work out, and you have no clue, man.
06:08It works out better than you ever could have dreamed.
