00:00We're here with Thomas Redd at Tidal Wave here in Atlantic City.
00:02It's so good to see you.
00:03Likewise, dude.
00:04So, one thing I want to ask you about, I saw that you posted that great picture of your wife falling asleep on the date.
00:11Has she gotten you back yet?
00:13No.
00:14Oh, you're dead, man.
00:15Yeah, I know, man.
00:16It's a funny game, dude.
00:17I feel like when I take those pictures of her, I'm trying to be sweet.
00:21Yeah, you got it.
00:21And I think she looks at it like, why are you making fun of me on your Instagram page?
00:24So, I'm sure she'll get me back at some point.
00:26There's a lot of things that I'm easy to get back.
00:28Oh, it's going to be a good one.
00:30I can't wait to see that one.
00:31So, I've been following you since the day I met you for the first time when you came out on radio.
00:37And one of the things I've noticed about your career is you've been able to get to the emotion and the heart of it.
00:43Yeah.
00:45Talk about that journey.
00:46Is that because you're now with your family?
00:49Is it just different for you?
00:50Yeah.
00:50I mean, I guess, you know, the things that I have been going through and going through now,
00:55like raising kids and being married for longer than 10 years.
00:59I mean, I think there's a lot of people in the world that are kind of in my shoes.
01:03And so, I feel like if I can tell that story as detailed as humanly possible, I might relate to somebody else in the world.
01:11You know, at the end of the day, man, that's kind of the goal is just to kind of connect with somebody and relate to somebody
01:16because we're all kind of dealing with our own whatever it may be.
01:19Yeah.
01:19And so, for me, I just love being able to write stories about stuff I've, you know, actually experienced
01:25and how I, like, came back from failure and did something different and it all kind of works.
01:31So, yeah, I don't know, man.
01:33It's been really fun to be able to put out songs that are a lot deeper and watch a crowd, you know, react to them.
01:39And so, I don't know if I would ever say anything about you was a failure.
01:43I mean, I guess we feel that way sometimes late at night, right?
01:46You don't live in my house.
01:46I can't believe it.
01:47Yeah.
01:48I can't believe I did that thing.
01:49Yeah, for sure.
01:50No, not a failure, dude.
01:51I just think when you're a dad, you kind of go, God, I could have handled that a lot different.
01:55Or I could have been there for that.
01:57You know, I think I get dad guilt pretty bad, especially doing what I do for a living, just being gone so much.
02:02It's like, what am I missing?
02:04Is it worth the miss?
02:05You know what I mean?
02:06And how can I be there for more things in the future?
02:08You share a lot with your family, though.
02:10Oh, yeah.
02:10I saw the kids out on stage a long time ago.
02:13So, they must love that, right?
02:14They do.
02:15I'll say it is really hard to bring four kids on the road.
02:19I love the story about how...
02:20Like, bring four kids to your office and let me know how that works out for you.
02:23No, that's okay.
02:25But I love the story about how when you're driving them to school or whatever, they all want to listen to different music.
02:30Yeah.
02:30And you're trying to work and go, okay, I'll listen to this, Nick.
02:33Yeah.
02:33They want to hear what they want to hear.
02:35They want to hear what they want to hear.
02:36Yeah, it's probably like...
02:38You know, 2014 Taylor Swift or some Jonas Brothers thing, so...
02:43Yeah.
02:44Well, you know, when the kids are in the car, they rule the radio, right?
02:46They rule the radio.
02:47That's the way it is.
02:48I get it.
02:48So, you've got a project where you're working on the 20 songs.
02:54You're on your way to 21 now.
02:55That's amazing.
02:57Did you ever think in your wildest dreams, here we are today?
03:00Absolutely not.
03:01It's awesome.
03:02Yeah, it's all...
03:02I wish I'd taken more time to really soak it in as the ride was happening, but I feel like life was just so fast.
03:11And I feel like this is kind of the first year that I've been able to look back at just like a decade of work and really just take a bunch of pride that me and my team have just done some really cool stuff in the last decade.
03:21And so, this 20 number one, it's really just a celebration more than it is anything.
03:26And it's a vinyl, which vinyls are cool.
03:27Yeah, vinyls are cool.
03:28And you should celebrate that because I know how hard you worked in your life.
03:33And the team around you has just been fantastic.
03:35For sure.
03:36They've been so proud of you.
03:39And I get the calls every week and they're behind you 100%.
03:43Well, that means a lot.
03:44That's amazing.
03:44You mentioned Taylor Swift.
03:46They were joking around or you were joking around about how you're working just as hard to keep up with her.
03:51That's a pretty good goal.
03:53It's impossible.
03:54It's physically impossible.
03:56What if I can think about the creation that comes out of her?
04:00Oh, dude, it's unbelievable.
04:02It's insane.
04:02Even just watching that show, it's just like, this had to have taken a year to fathom how can I put on a three and a half hour show and no one get bored.
04:13Yeah.
04:14I struck like 90 minutes.
04:16I'm like, what parts are people getting bored at?
04:18I can't imagine doing that show three times in a row.
04:20Well, you know.
04:20Crazy.
04:21I think the way you present your show and I've read where they're calling you the showman of the year and stuff like that.
04:26But I saw you on your first tour when you brought out the drums and you did a lot of the other stuff.
04:32I mean, so you have the bass for it.
04:34So that's amazing.
04:35Yeah.
04:36You need some more bangers, man.
04:38You got some bangers.
04:39You need a lot of bangers.
04:40Bangers are good.
04:41People like bangers.
04:41I appreciate a couple minutes.
