00:00Here we go, it's that time of year again, the QYK Guitar Pole, November 6th.
00:03You've got your tickets coming up at 825, very first pair in Tampa Bay,
00:07but we've got to announce your first artist.
00:09We need people to be on stage, because no one wants to talk to us for that long.
00:12No, and I can't sing.
00:14That's been proven on the show that I can't either.
00:17So, we need artists, and right now we have your very first QYK Guitar Pole artist.
00:23Please reveal yourself now.
00:25Hey y'all, this is Jackson Dean.
00:30Got a tank on the gas, down the road, I'm funny.
00:33Can't say a word, and I can't say a word, and if I don't come back, don't come looking.
00:40Jackson Dean!
00:41Yeah!
00:42If you didn't hear him, this was a true cowboy, Jackson Dean.
00:45Wow, how low can you go?
00:47I love it, man.
00:48Wade, brother, how are you?
00:50I'm good, man, I'm good.
00:51I'm standing on the second story of a hotel complex.
00:56I am in the great state of Florida.
00:58Oh, cool.
00:58But yeah, I'm just soaking up some of the humidity and the heat, man.
01:03Yeah, you're going to get a lot of it, for sure.
01:04We're talking to your first QYK Guitar Pole artist right now, Jackson Dean.
01:08If you don't know, he's from Maryland.
01:09Some of his songs have been featured on Netflix's Ice Road, and also the one we love, Yellowstone.
01:15Yeah!
01:15So, obviously you're doing something right.
01:16He's opened up for Kane Brown, among others.
01:19First of all, I want to know how your song gets to Yellowstone.
01:22I mean, obviously a huge thing, but how does that come about?
01:24Do you get a phone call?
01:25Does someone hear it stream somewhere?
01:28How does that work?
01:29Well, I remember getting a call from my agent in L.A., and she was like, hey, man, are you sitting down?
01:36And I was like, no.
01:37Why?
01:38She goes, you might want to, because I just got your song in the episode of Yellowstone with Kevin Costner's face in it.
01:43And my knees buckled a little bit, and I was like, oh, my God, man.
01:48It was awesome.
01:49That was a pretty awesome moment.
01:51Yeah, it was.
01:52Okay, now let's talk about how you get paid for this.
01:54Now, I don't know how much, but how does that work, though, versus like a normal song when it gets to a show?
01:58Is it a one-time fee?
02:00Is it every time that episode runs?
02:01Is it in the union?
02:02How does that work?
02:03Or do you know?
02:04Um, that question is above my pay grade.
02:09Well, you better get in this, Jackson.
02:10That's your money.
02:11That's your song.
02:12We got to get you paid, my friend.
02:13Well, hey, now, my needs are low, and this ain't about the money for me.
02:18I'm here doing something else, you know.
02:21That's good.
02:22Well, in all seriousness, you look like you could be a cast member.
02:24Yeah.
02:24I mean, you're a handsome son of a gun, so congratulations on that.
02:28And you look like you could be Casey's brother on the show.
02:31So it's definitely a fit, like you were talking about.
02:33This is awesome.
02:33Yeah, like if Kevin needs me to come be the dark one, you know, like Rich is a dark cousin
02:40or something, I would absolutely do it in a heartbeat.
02:42We'll get it in.
02:43And by the way, some of the salaries these people are getting for per episode, let me
02:47do the negotiating for you.
02:48Make sure you're taken care of.
02:50Since, you know, money's not what you're worried about, but let me get in there and
02:53make sure you're taken care of, okay?
02:54Right.
02:55Yep.
02:55You got it.
02:56You got it.
02:57So, Jackson, you are one of our new country artists that we are bringing to Guitar
03:02Pulls, where, you know, we've got every artist on the stage at the same time.
03:08And we can't tell you who else is going to be on stage with you.
03:11We're going to do that throughout the week.
03:13We're going to keep announcing a new name.
03:14Kevin Costner.
03:15We're going.
03:17But it is definitely a different kind of a show, a little bit more intimate show.
03:22Have you had a chance to do anything like this?
03:25Oh, yeah.
03:26Yeah.
03:26I mean, I've been doing guitar pulls and other mics and stuff like that.
03:30So, I'm excited.
03:31It's going to be a good time.
03:33Whoever's up there will make it a good time.
03:36Do you ever have a new appreciation of songs, like from your peers, when you hear them acoustically?
03:40I feel like I do when I hear artists come and do a song that maybe I've only heard on
03:44the radio, when I hear it acoustically and stripped down, from an artist standpoint to
03:48another artist, you go, wow, I didn't know he played it that way, or I didn't know that
03:51that sounded that way acoustically.
03:53Do you ever get a new appreciation for artists that are next to you that you hear acoustically?
03:57Yeah.
03:58I mean, that's just the nature of music.
04:01Every time you play it live, like even when I play full band live, it all kind of hinges
04:07on the crowd and what the vibe is.
04:09But it is cool to watch other artists work and work the room and work the guitar and work
04:17their voice and get the delivery spot on the way that they think it should be.
04:22Well, this song you got out right now, man, I can't wait to hear it live.
04:25Don't Come Look In is the name of Jackson Dean's song.
04:27He is our first artist for the QIK Guitar Poll.
04:30He is going to be featured on Yellowstone.
04:32I'm in negotiations right now for his acting debut on Yellowstone as well.
04:37So, we'll be in touch for that.
04:38But we will see you November 6th, man.
04:40We cannot wait to see you at the Guitar Poll, ladies and gentlemen.
04:43Jackson Dean!
04:44Jackson Dean!
04:46I'll see you all soon.
04:47All right, brother.
04:48Appreciate you.
04:48Likewise.
