00:00Alright, time now for the last artist, for the QYK Guitar Poll Artist No. 5.
00:05We are about to reveal it now.
00:07Lana, you are up.
00:08Who do we got?
00:09Well, this guy is a QYK favorite because you know all the lyrics to every one of his songs
00:15because they're so much fun.
00:17But this is a guy you can relate to.
00:19He's so much like us because he's decked out in camo.
00:23He loves hunting.
00:24He loves fishing.
00:26He loves chilling on a riverbank, killing cold beers.
00:28He dreams about winning the lotto, too, because he ain't sitting on a pile like Warren Buffett.
00:34His Yeti is iced down with some silver bullets and he knows how to fix a drink, get you buzzed and smiling.
00:40He's a great family man.
00:42He's got his Rock Kelly by his side.
00:44He has made wearing a Bass Pro hat cool again.
00:47It is Mr. Chris Jansen.
00:49Chris Jansen!
00:52You can buy me a boat.
00:55You can buy me a truck to pull.
00:57You can buy me a Yeti 110 ass down with some silver bullets.
01:03God almighty.
01:06Can we just package you up in a cardboard box and ship you around the country into all the concerts?
01:12Because, man, what an intro.
01:14That's right.
01:14That's right.
01:15I wish I had recorded that.
01:17And, yeah, surprise, guys.
01:18It's me.
01:19Thank you, Lana.
01:19Wow.
01:20Yes.
01:22I'm excited.
01:23And we did record it, so we have it.
01:25If someone said describe yourself, I mean, that's it.
01:28I mean, pretty much you did it.
01:29So I don't really have anything else to say about myself.
01:32Interview's over.
01:33Yeah.
01:34We'll see you November 17th.
01:37I'm thinking, God, this guy sounds like a jerk.
01:39But then you said he's a great family man.
01:40I was like, oh, never mind.
01:41We love him.
01:43Well, we're excited to put you with some awesome artists, Jansen.
01:46And we did you last on purpose because we know you're going to bring the house down.
01:49But we got your boys, Locash, obviously, Corey Kent, Matt Stell, Chase Beckham, and now you.
01:56This is going to be an awesome show.
01:58All good people.
01:59All good people.
02:00And you guys are great, and we appreciate it.
02:01And, yeah, man, we're looking forward to being there.
02:04Just have a whole night of sing-along songs.
02:06And, man, bring some happiness with the people, man.
02:09That's what it's really all about.
02:10If you can just find a little bit of happiness and joy in the middle of it, then that's really,
02:14if you can change somebody's day, I figure that's, then you're winning.
02:17Oh, I feel like you're the guy to do that, no doubt about it.
02:21And, you know, you're great with huge crowds, and I've seen you acoustically as well,
02:26and you're great with that, even if it's just you and a piano as well.
02:30What are your advantages to just you, a guitar, and an audience?
02:35What do you like about that?
02:36Great question.
02:37So I think what I like about it the most is whenever it's just me stripped down like that,
02:42you know, I inherently am a songwriter,
02:44so I start wanting to tell a bit more of the stories behind the songs.
02:48You know, when it's full band and the whole deal, like on the tour shows, you know, the big productions,
02:53it becomes a production sometimes.
02:55And even though it's not, you know, staged, there's still a lot that goes into it
02:59and it's sort of a little more uniform.
03:01When I'm acoustic like that on a broken down scale and unplugged,
03:05it's way less uniform, and I kind of just free flow and do what I want to do
03:09and play what I want to play right at just kind of the tip of my hat kind of thing.
03:14And so it keeps it exciting.
03:15It keeps it fresh.
03:16And, you know, I was looking back two days ago, was on tour up in the Northeast,
03:22and I was playing the show, and I just took a second to reflect for myself,
03:26and I mean this with such humility.
03:28But, like, man, I remember a time when I didn't have any hits,
03:31and I remember a time when I had one hit and then just, you know, a hit and a half
03:35and that kind of thing, and it's a bit tougher to get through shows like that
03:40when you're at that place because you've got to fill time with something.
03:43And so I'm so grateful for a catalog of hits that I've been blessed to have
03:50and you guys have blessed me with to play my songs, and it all matters so much.
03:55And so getting to do that live in front of people, I mean, you genuinely see a dude
04:01who, like, I came from nothing and built it into something,
04:05and I just want people to know you see a dude who I am so grateful for every second of it.
04:10And I really am enjoying living the dream.
04:13Like, I'm living the American dream when I'm playing.
04:16So it's a bit more to me than just the concert or just the guitar pool
04:20or just getting, you know, just playing some songs for people.
04:22For me, it goes so much deeper than that, and that's what I bring to the stage,
04:27and, you know, I hope it relates with people.
04:29So, you know, the thing that's so great about the guitar pool
04:32is everybody is on the stage at the same time,
04:34and we never know what anybody's going to play.
04:37Now, technically, I thought maybe we could kind of pull a fast one on Locash
04:41since they're on this bill.
04:43Technically, Chris, you are a songwriter on I Love This Life.
04:47Oh, yeah, that was my idea.
04:48Yeah.
04:51Wouldn't it be really crappy of you to go ahead and sing that song
04:57before they have a chance to sing it?
04:59You'd be like, hey, man, I wrote this song.
05:00I'm going to perform this song.
05:01And then Locash is up there going, oh, great.
05:03You've got our biggest hits.
05:05Here's a little song I wrote for my friends, Locash.
05:07You guys might have heard of them.
05:08So here we go.
05:09No, no, man.
05:10I would never.
05:10That would be so funny.
05:12That would be great.
05:13Oh, my gosh.
05:13Because we're tight, they would think it was funny,
05:18but I would never do that sin just because my heart can't do that to somebody at all.
05:22But, hey, I mean, they will tell you this.
05:24That was me waking their butts up at 7 o'clock in the morning.
05:28This is a true story.
05:29At 7 o'clock in the morning and making them come into town to Nashville
05:33and write songs because, you know, I was like, hey,
05:37if you're going to start fires, man, let's start them early
05:40because I want to be done by lunch and be like in a dove field or hunting or something.
05:44No, for real.
05:45Like this morning before I talked to you, I've already been shooting doves this morning
05:49and we did fish a little bit this morning and just doing outdoor stuff.
05:53But with Locash, I woke them up early and got all the creative stuff going early.
05:59And, man, 12-pack of Mountain Dew later, we had I Love This Life.
06:02And I was like, I'm thinking to myself, am I going to cut this?
06:06Are they going to cut this?
06:07Or is anybody going to cut this?
06:08And then they were like, we're going to cut it.
06:10So they had a huge hit.
06:12I think, you know, it's been one of the biggest songs of their whole career
06:14and probably will be for their whole life.
06:16I mean, it's a career song for country music, really.
06:19And everybody knows it.
06:21It sounds like a hit.
06:22And I'm just grateful to be a part of it.
06:24We've had a lot of great success together.
06:26We wrote Truck Yeah for McGraw and for a lot of other artists.
06:30You know, we've always been buddies first.
06:32And we put our competitiveness as artists aside because, you know, we start out as friends.
06:38Yeah, I love that.
06:38I love it.
06:39And I know that.
06:40And you've been the same dude since the day I met you before Buy Me a Boat was a hit, man.
06:44Right.
06:44And so you were talking about it earlier.
06:47I'm just excited for your success.
06:48I root for you, dude.
06:49Big time.
06:51And I'm happy for you and your family and all that.
06:54And this is going to be an awesome night.
06:55And I cannot wait to see you up there acoustically doing your thing.
06:59Well, I'll be proud to be with you.
07:00And I really appreciate that.
07:01And I know you mean it.
07:02So thank you for it.
07:03Yeah, man.
07:03Well, Chris Jantz is going to be there November 17th at the Manhattan Theater.
07:07He is our final artist on the QYK Guitar Poll.
07:10Chris, we appreciate you.
07:11We'll see you soon, my friend.
07:12You guys have a great day.
07:13And thanks for your time.
07:14And thanks for letting me be a part of it.
07:15Really appreciate it.
07:16You got it.
