00:00It's now time to announce artist number three.
00:03QIK guitar pole artist number three.
00:06Please reveal yourself.
00:08It's Jelly Roll.
00:09I'm just kidding.
00:10It's Ernest.
00:10Yeah!
00:11Yeah!
00:13Mr. I'll take your roses
00:16If you cut off the thorns
00:21You can't take no more
00:24Bad day for love
00:27But a good day for flower shops
00:32Ernest! Awesome!
00:35What's up, Ernest?
00:36What's up?
00:37Hey, man. It's good to talk to you.
00:39I mean, for people that don't know Ernest that well,
00:42you should love this guy
00:43because you have been hearing his songs
00:45over and over and over again
00:46if you like the Morgan Wallen Dangerous album
00:48because he wrote a ton of songs on that album.
00:51And you just heard his song with Morgan Wallen
00:52called Flower Shops.
00:53Dude, you are a talented guy.
00:55Hey, I'm so glad now you're out
00:57and in the spotlight doing your own thing.
00:59But it's had to be a pretty fun ride for you so far.
01:02Yeah, it's great.
01:03I'm happy to get out in front of people
01:05and play my songs.
01:06I've always wanted to do that.
01:07You're like, you know what?
01:08Here's the real talent.
01:09All right, Morgan, sit back.
01:10Here it is.
01:11Here's what I got.
01:13Yeah, just like that.
01:15Well, you know, man.
01:16Again, I also appreciate you taking the time today.
01:18I know you were taking care of your kid this morning
01:21and doing all that.
01:22So thanks for carving out some time for us.
01:24No problem.
01:25He's got some teeth coming in, so it's extra fun.
01:27Did my mom put, like, whiskey or something on our gums?
01:30I believe your mom probably did put whiskey on your gums.
01:33Yeah, probably did.
01:34I need to put some whiskey on my gums.
01:37No, no, no.
01:38Ernest, this is a conversation for off the air,
01:40but we don't want to follow the parenting of Laura.
01:43Okay.
01:44All right, so, Ernest, obviously you've written a lot with Morgan,
01:48but then you wrote Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90s, too, for Sam Hunt.
01:54Is there a song out there that you had a good hand in but didn't get credit for writing?
02:00Other than Friends in Low Places.
02:03Yeah, no, that would make things very awkward if that really happened.
02:08I don't think that happens much.
02:10But I will say, just in general, I don't think there's any songs that I've written with other artists
02:16or given to other artists that, like, I wish I had kept just because maybe I will have that regret one day.
02:22But so far, I've done pretty good with just, like, love them enough to let them go.
02:25And especially if I'm making money off of them, what am I going to complain about?
02:29Talking to Ernest right now, our third QYK guitar pull artist,
02:33I'd like to ask this question.
02:35For you, when you're in a theater that has great acoustics and it's made for, you know,
02:39like, you know, theater plays and whatnot, so it's designed to sound great,
02:43what are the advantages for you acoustically versus a full band show?
02:48Well, I always have felt comfortable with just me in an acoustic,
02:51because that was me, middle school and high school, sitting in the hallways,
02:55in between classes and whatnot.
02:57I've always been, me and my guitar have always been a thing.
03:00So I love sitting on a bar stool and playing to a theater-type setting,
03:06because you can kind of, you don't have to stick to a click track tempo.
03:10You can just make the songs more intimate.
03:13So I look forward to doing that.
03:14That's a good point. I like that.
03:15And then what would you say your hardest song to sing live is?
03:20Did It With You is a lot of words, but I did that to myself.
03:23At least you're honest.
03:26I always remember, I'll always be, like, halfway through that song,
03:29like, damn it, why could you not have just said less, man?
03:34That's what I was saying, when you play it acoustically or anything,
03:37you can just say less.
03:38We don't know, right?
03:39Yeah.
03:40Hey, I probably won't be playing that one acoustic.
03:43Exactly.
03:44Anybody listening right now, do not hope to hear that song at QIK Guitar Pool.
03:48Go stream it all you want, but I probably won't be playing it on acoustic.
03:51There you go.
03:52Well, you're such an amazing songwriter.
03:54Is there a song out there that you didn't write,
03:58but you absolutely love and wish you would have written it?
04:01I would say The Chair.
04:06Oh, yeah, that's a good point.
04:07Pretty good.
04:07Yeah, never hurts to go with a George Strait song.
04:10It's one of the best country songs of all time.
04:12I got to write with Dean Dillon last week, and it was a dream come true.
04:16That's awesome, man.
04:17I love that you're a historian of country music,
04:20and you really come from a real place,
04:22and I think it's really cool,
04:22and it's going to shine through November 6th at the Mahaffey Theater.
04:26Ernest will be at the QIK Guitar Pool.
04:28Yeah.
04:29Woo!
04:29We'll see you soon, brother,
04:30and good luck with the kiddo with the teeth coming in.
04:33Whiskey on the gums.
04:35Whiskey on the gums.
04:36See you all in Tampa.
04:37All right, later.
04:37Later.
