00:00I remember the crazy story from the other day,
00:10the old broad who drove her SUV right into a mall,
00:15the second floor of a mall.
00:17She's kind of my hero.
00:19Lisa thought, how convenient.
00:21Yeah.
00:22That was in Braintree, Massachusetts at the South Shore Plaza.
00:25Well, that old broad is finally speaking out for the first time
00:29she's doing an interview with WHDH-TV.
00:32Take a listen.
00:34I went all the way up.
00:36I just never stopped.
00:37It was really stupid.
00:38It was my own fault.
00:39I admit it.
00:41Oh, my God.
00:41The woman who police say drove onto the second floor of the South Shore Plaza
00:45speaking with just one station.
00:46She's explaining how she wound up inside the mall to the shock of shoppers.
00:51Sevens Robway has more on the interview you'll only see here.
00:56Yeah, they came out and said, stop, stop, stop.
00:59The terrifying moments relived.
01:01Susan Gothier says she was behind the wheel of this SUV
01:04when she drove it right through the doors of South Shore Plaza last week
01:07and went hundreds of feet into the mall.
01:10Now she's sharing what happened with just one station.
01:12I was trying to go to the Apple store, and I went the wrong way.
01:18Which is easy to do down there.
01:20Oh, my God.
01:21Did she say it's pretty easy to do that?
01:24I think so.
01:24Is that what she said?
01:25No, it's not.
01:26Which is easy to do down there.
01:28It's easy to do.
01:30It's not easy to do.
01:30No one's ever done that before.
01:32It's the first time anyone's driven their car into an indoor mall.
01:35She's got to say something.
01:37I know they got a camera in her face.
01:39They got her in at room time.
01:40They got her in at room time.
01:41Yeah.
01:42It's Maseratu's grandma, so.
01:44Oh, yeah.
01:45My goodness.
01:46But it was a stupid mistake.
01:49I went over curbs.
01:50I just never stopped, and it was really stupid.
01:52It was my own fault.
01:54I admit it.
01:55Surveillance video captures the moment Braintree police say the driver of the Lincoln SUV went
01:59into the second floor of the mall from the parking garage around lunchtime last Thursday.
02:03She made it about 60 yards down the pedestrian walkway before she came to a complete stop.
02:08I've been there before.
02:09I just.
02:11I hope that's not me one day.
02:16Lisa's on the news.
02:17Lisa, ma'am, can you tell us what happened?
02:19I just went.
02:24I mean, I've been to the mall.
02:26I've been to the Apple store.
02:28Do you know how many times I've been to the mall?
02:31I've been to the mall a million times.
02:33This time.
02:36I lost it.
02:38And plus, how convenient would it be to be able to drive up to the door?
02:43I'm just saying.
02:45I feel like your whole life is.
02:47Yeah.
02:47I mean, listen, there's a lot going on there, obviously.
02:53But at the same time, in just talking to her, I'm like, this lady's got it together.
02:57Sure.
02:58She's she's fine.
02:59So you're always robe time at her.
03:01Yes, I agree.
03:02My grandma was had one of those things.
03:06It was a purple one.
03:07All the time she was in that thing.
03:09I just feel bad because they like knocked on her door.
03:11They're like, hi, you're really stupid, aren't you?
03:14Yeah.
03:14You're so stupid.
03:16Look how stupid you were when you drove into that mall.
03:18How do you feel about how stupid you were?
03:19I'm dumb and it's my fault.
03:22Let's watch the video of you being stupid.
03:24Oh, wow.
03:26Look at that.
03:28Yeah.
03:29I was going over curbs.
03:32Did you say it was easy to do?
03:34You can make them sing.
03:35It's an apple store.
03:37It's never happened before.
03:37Why is it in the middle of the mall?
03:39It's never happened before.
03:40Not once.
03:41You're the first person.
03:42Oh.
03:44You know, easy peasy.
03:45Would you like a minute to put some clothes on?
03:50No, I got it on.
03:51Oh, okay.
03:51I have a nightie underneath this.
03:53You get a nightie in robe on the news.
03:54Yeah, I'm good.
03:55Yeah, okay.
03:56I'm good.
03:56All right.
03:57I mean, you woke me up.
03:59I know, it looks like it.
03:59It's 3.30 in the afternoon.
04:02I was in bed.
04:07Back to the story.
04:07The hill.
04:09There's parking spaces.
04:12And I said, geez, I want the apple store.
04:15The car, which is now parked outside of her home, has minor damage after running over a planter, among other things.
04:20Police say no one was hurt, and Gothier says she's doing okay, too.
04:24I feel great.
04:27Stop that.
04:28I took her to the hospital and all that.
04:30Five to six hours I was here.
04:33And they couldn't find anything wrong with me.
04:35Police have deemed her an immediate threat and had her license suspended.
04:39Now she's just wishing she thought it through.
04:41If I had just stopped and think, you know, when I went up to the parking lot, if I just said, where's the apple store to somebody, they would have told me, I'm sure, because people are pretty nice over there.
04:51Yeah, but would you have got out of your car, or would you have just drove there?
04:57That's the question.
04:58I think she was going to drive there no matter what.
05:01No matter what you told her.
05:02She just did the punching thing.
05:04Yeah, she did.
05:05How are you feeling now?
05:06Are you doing all right?
05:08Oh, you're good then.
05:10The checkup went well?
05:11Yeah.
05:11Yeah, I was there for 16 straight hours.
05:14Oh my goodness, but everything went...
05:16Couldn't find anything wrong with me.
05:17I was like, no, trust me.
05:18I'm blah, blah, blah, blah.
05:20They said, lady, we ran the test, and you are good.
05:25You still have your license and everything?
05:27No, no, no, no, no.
05:29They did take that.
05:31I never use one anyway.
05:33I don't care.
05:34What are you going to do with the sweet Lincoln SUV?
05:37Well, it's damaged.
05:39I can tell you that.
05:40I ran over a planter.
05:41I hit some kind of, I don't know, shopping buggy holder.
05:47I didn't care.
05:48I plowed that thing.
05:49That's too bad.
05:50You're not going to drive it, though, right, without a license?
05:53I drove this morning.
05:54Oh, okay.
05:55I'm nothing.
05:56I'm old.
05:57I got stuff to do.
05:59Look at this hair.
06:00I just got it done.
06:03And again, you said your condition is what?
06:06Blah, blah, blah, blah.
06:06With a little bit of, ah.
06:09I got those two things going on at all times, so I feel like I can do anything because of
06:15the, ah.
06:15Right.
06:16But then, but then the, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
06:19Yeah.
06:20I get it.
06:20Pops this ugly head on me.
06:23So I was pretty stupid.
06:25I admit that.
06:25Yeah.
06:25Went on to tell me she came back to the Apple Store at South Shore Plaza today with family
06:29to get what she needed.
06:30She also says she may try to get her license back in the future.
06:34No.
06:34In Braintree.
06:35Rob Wade, 7 News.
06:36Well, I'm glad she got her Apple stuff.
06:38I guess she did.
06:39Yeah.
06:39Which, by the way, is on the first floor of the mall.
06:41It's not even on the second floor.
06:43But the thing is, would she have just driven there?
06:46How?
06:47Down an escalator?
06:48How's she getting there?
06:48I don't know.
06:49Well.
06:50It's very easy to do, Dave.
06:51She already told you.
06:52Yeah.
06:52So easy.
06:53My guess is it's kind of like, there's a mall by me that depending on where you park,
06:59you're on different levels.
07:00You're on different levels.
07:02And you could drive.
07:04If you drove through the one store, you're in.
07:06I remember.
07:06On the top.
07:07The report earlier was that she just asked if she could go to the food court then.
07:11Remember?
07:11All right.
07:11That's right.
07:12Yeah.
07:13I like her.
07:14I do too.
07:15I do too.
07:16She cracks me up.
07:17Yeah.
07:17She has a good sense of humor about the whole thing.
07:20Oh, yeah.
07:20She took responsibility.
07:22She's not playing the victim.
07:24I like it.
07:25And I will say, it's not like she screamed through there at like 80 miles an hour.
07:30She was still driving like a very cautious old lady.
07:34Right.
07:34Just couldn't see the stuff she was hitting.
07:36Like, we're going to do a 45-minute interview with her.
07:39Yeah.
07:41Well, take a seat.
07:42Take a seat.
