08 April - 14 day outlook presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there and welcome to your 14-day outlook. There's been lots of sunshine over the last
00:05couple of days and it's set to continue for many of us. There's some caveats to that.
00:09Eastern areas likely to see more cloud at times and it's going to feel a bit cooler
00:13here too. But for the majority of the country, there's been lots of fine conditions and it's
00:17all thanks to this area of high pressure. But as it sits to the east, it does drag in
00:21an easterly flow over the next couple of days, so bringing in some low clouds and sea fog
00:25at times across eastern areas. And through most of the day, it should burn back to the
00:29coast, but that's where it's set to linger and things aren't going to be turning quite
00:32as warm here. And also with an onshore flow, that's also adding to the chill. But elsewhere,
00:37high pressure clinging on, so lots of warm sunshine ahead. Now, by the time we reach Thursday,
00:43a slight shift in the direct position of where this high pressure is going to sit. So more
00:47of an easterly flow just coming into parts of southeast England. So East Anglia, Sussex
00:52and Kent starting to see a bit more of that low cloud during the morning on Thursday, perhaps
00:55pushing into more central and southern areas during the morning. But once again, burning
00:59back to the coast, high pressure clinging on. So even after, as we head into Thursday,
01:04there's still plenty of fine central conditions around. Then we see this area of high pressure
01:08down towards the southwest. This changes our wind direction as we follow those winds in a clockwise
01:13direction. So more of a northwesterly flow. So we say goodbye to that easterly by Thursday. So that
01:17means more widespread water wall, sunshine in those eastern areas really warming up by day,
01:22particularly on Friday and also Saturday too. It's likely that we'll start to see temperatures
01:26push into the low 20. So an improving picture across eastern areas, but elsewhere,
01:31a fine settled week to come. Now we'll eventually see more systems start to push into the north as
01:37that high pressure sinks south. So a change as we head later Saturday into Sunday, likely to see more
01:42cloud and some showers too. But for much of the week, a nice picture, lots of warm sunshine,
01:47improving in the east. But we are starting to see a change as we head towards the weekend.
01:53This is showing quite nicely in our stacked probability chart. So the red colours showing
01:56high pressure and the blue colours showing low pressure, dominating the weather across the UK.
02:01So largely red and orange colours to start, but it's really as we head towards Saturday and Sunday
02:05that those blue colours are really dominating as we start to see a shift and we start to see those
02:09systems move in from the Atlantic, bringing in more cloud and showers, potentially some thundery
02:14outbreaks across the south too, but slightly lower certainty into regards of the detail.
02:19Then as we push into the second week, we can see a bit of a battleground between the red
02:23and the blue colours. So whether or not high or low pressure is going to take force. And that also
02:28brings us into the Easter bank holiday weekend too.
02:32Now, still a low chance, only a 10% probability of an outcome such as this. But if high pressure
02:37dominates, once again, it's really going to depend where about the high pressure sits as to what
02:40weather we can kind of see. So if the high pressure sits once again to the northwest, bringing in that
02:45more easterly flow, we'll probably see fairly similar conditions as to what we've had over
02:49the last couple of days. More cloud in the east, lower temperatures, but a bit better in the west
02:53and slightly milder too. But if that higher pressure sits further out to the west, we'll see more of
02:57a northerly, so clearer, colder, but potentially some sunshine and also some showers. Now, confidence
03:04detail as we head into next week is rather low. Fairly good confidence for the beginning of the week,
03:09but as we push further into the second week and towards Easter weekend, our confidence in the
03:14kind of detail that we can see in the weather is particularly low for this lead time. So a chance
03:19that we could see some rain and showers for the beginning of next week, but there's a signal that
03:23this brief, that this unsettled spell could be fairly brief. A chance of an improvement as we head into
03:29Easter Sunday, but as I just showed you from that graphic there, there's still quite a lot of uncertainty
03:33around that. But of course, you can subscribe to our YouTube channel and then we'll update you daily
03:37on the weather. Otherwise, that's it from me. Bye bye.
