00:50Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Etersu Studios in Caracas,
00:55Venezuela.
00:56We begin with the news.
01:10In Greece, thousands of protesters, mostly students, demanded justice for the victims
01:14of a deadly train crash that killed 57 people two years ago.
01:18A group of Greek students have called for a new protest on Friday against the government
01:22in connection with the collision that took place in the Thessaly town of Tempe in February
01:272023.
01:28The call comes after several recent demonstrations in the capital Athens, where security forces
01:33arrested dozens of protesters in connection with an alleged series of riots.
01:38Demonstrators have rallied in front of Parliament chanting slogans in demand of accountability
01:42and punishment for those responsible and accusing the government of negligence.
01:52The Ukrainian troops have lost over 10,000 soldiers in recent days, according to reports
02:05from the Russian Defense Ministry.
02:08The agency also confirmed the surrender of at least 35 Kiev servicemen who were taken
02:12into custody of the Russian forces as prisoners of war.
02:15In addition, the Russian Armed Forces carried out seven massive attacks on several military
02:20installations of the Kiev regime, destroying 21 aerial bombs and five HE-MAR shells, achieving
02:25the liberation of four Ukrainian-occupied localities.
02:37And a new attack by armed groups in central Sudan has left at least 21 people dead.
02:42According to local media, several villages in the town of Al-Kamlin in Gezira state were
02:46targeted by parliamentarians between March 5 and 6.
02:50In this context, the civilian organization Gezira Conference denounced that the region
02:54is suffering shortages of food and medical supplies, resulting in the death of dozens
02:59of people, including the elderly and children.
03:02Since April 2023, Sudan has been facing an internal conflict between the army and their
03:07parliamentary rapid support forces, which has resulted in more than 20,000 deaths and
03:12forced displacement of more than 10 million civilians, according to the United Nations.
03:25And the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that Ebola cases were
03:29spreading in five out of 146 districts in Uganda.
03:34In this regard, local authorities registered Ebola cases rose up to 14, also confirming
03:38two deaths from the disease.
03:40They further detailed that about three hospitals in Kampala have been treating Ebola patients
03:45or suspected cases, an information that had not been made public before, in order to avoid
03:50alarming the population.
03:52Tracing contacts is key to tackle the spread of Ebola, which is transmitted through contact
03:56with the body fluids of an infected person or contaminated materials.
04:00So far there are no approved vaccines for the strain of the disease that's infecting
04:03people in Uganda.
04:10In Mali, the government is suspending licenses for artisanal gold mining granted to foreign
04:19companies.
04:20The decision came after a series of fatal accidents in the country, one of Africa's
04:23top three gold producers.
04:25So far, accidents at mining sites have claimed the lives of dozens of people, with recent
04:30incidents taking place in the Ilikoro region south of the country in January and the Kiges
04:36region to the southwest in February.
04:39Artisanal gold mining is estimated to produce around 30 tons of gold a year, and represents
04:436 percent of Mali's annual gold production.
04:46Tensions have been rising between some mining companies and the military authorities, who
04:50are demanding that companies pay money and comply with a new mining code.
05:03An Zimbabwean foreign minister, Amun Murira, announced Thursday his country had officially
05:08submitted its application to join BRICS.
05:10Murira said so in a press briefing alongside his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, as
05:16part of his agenda in Moscow.
05:18The minister further highlighted the commitment of Zimbabwe to comply with all BRICS membership
05:22requirements.
05:23Likewise, the senior diplomat stressed the importance of BRICS as the foremost platform
05:27for economic cooperation.
05:29In addition, the authority noted his nation's role to enhance economic ties and global partnerships
05:35within the alliance.
05:36We now have our first short break coming up, but remember you can join us on Tiktok at
05:48TELESUR ENGLISH where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and much more.
05:53We'll be right back, stay with us.
06:05Welcome back.
06:17The Syrian resistance movement has taken over the Naval Command Center and other strategic
06:21positions in Latakia after clashes with de facto government forces.
06:26A former commander of the Syrian army, Suhail al-Hassan, member of the resistance formation
06:30dubbed the Coastal Shield Regiment, assured that they have been keeping up with their
06:34fight against the occupying foreign troops with the purpose of overthrowing the co-de
06:38facto government.
06:39In this context, the death toll following their repression of protesters by the coup
06:43regime amounted to 70, mostly members of the resistance.
06:52Ninety percent of Syrian coastal areas are under the control of these groups after clashes
06:56with the new authorities this afternoon.
07:00The Public Security Department in Homs announced a curfew from 10 p.m. on Friday night until
07:068 a.m. on Saturday morning amid intense protests against the current regime.
07:11Meanwhile, the military is moving into the Chapelet region and its surroundings in Latakia
07:15to re-establish lost control over the area.
07:18During the clashes, the de facto government has reported attacks on checkpoints and patrols
07:22in and around Chapelet.
07:42Israeli occupation forces imposed severe restrictions on Muslim worshippers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque
07:48during the first Friday prayer of the holy month of Ramadan.
07:51Precisely, Israeli forces have denied the entry of several worshippers from the occupied
07:55West Bank and other parts of the Palestinian territories under the pretext of not having
07:59necessary permits while settlers are allowed to walk freely on this planet.
08:04Occupation forces are reportedly shaking the identities of young men at the entrances to
08:09the Old City of Jerusalem and at the mosque's doors.
08:12Al-Aqsa, located in occupied Jerusalem, is one of the holiest sites for Muslims celebrating
08:17Ramadan this month.
08:18The restrictive actions constitute another violation of the fragile ceasefire by the
08:23Saudi's Tel Aviv regime.
08:25And in this regard, the Israeli government increased restrictions at Jerusalem's Qalandia
08:37military checkpoint, limiting the number of Muslims allowed in from the West Bank and
08:41effectively denying the entry to thousands more.
08:44Worshippers trying to reach the Al-Aqsa Mosque for Ramadan have had to obtain previous clearance
08:49and undergo thorough security checks where only men over the age of 55, women over 50
08:55and children under 12 are permitted in, while Jews and settlers are allowed free passage.
09:08We are completely barred, whether Palestinians, Egyptians or Arab Israelis.
09:12We are all barred from praying at Al-Aqsa, yet Jews and settlers are allowed to.
09:16I gave the soldier the ID, he told me I am good to go.
09:20I got the green light, but at the end they told me I am not allowed to go further.
09:25We have the right to worship as do all Muslims, but they do not recognize this right.
09:31UN experts condemn Israel's decision to prevent the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, marking
09:40this a clear violation of international law.
09:43Specialists warn that these decisions from the Zionist government undermine any possibility
09:47of peace.
09:48According to them, the deliberate cutting of food and the constant threats in the middle
09:53of the holy month of Ramadan is not only evidence of extreme cruelty, but points to a clear
09:57attempt to end the ceasefire agreement reached in Qatar.

10:45Welcome back.
10:46In Brazil, on Friday President Luiz Inácio da Silva took part in a ceremony to hand over
10:50expropriated plots of land in Capo de Mayo, Minas Gerais.
10:55At the event, organized by the Landless Workers' Movement, the President signed seven decrees
10:59that aim to move forward the agrarian reform, totaling more than 13,000 hectares and over
11:0430 million dollars in investments, which have the potential to assist around 800 families.
11:11In addition, as part of the Terra da Gente program, the head of state allocated over
11:1512,000 plots of land to families camped in rural settlements, totaling more than 300,000
11:21hectares spread across 24 states nationwide.
11:24The action is a victory for the 459 families living in the territory after years of struggle
11:29for the land.
11:37And in southern Chile, the Mapuche firefighter Gabriel Toro died in the line of duty while
11:42he was trying to put out the ravaging wildfires in the Araucanía region.
11:46The Mapuche firefighter was taken to the Victoria Hospital, where he passed away as he had been
11:51seriously injured by a falling tree in the Ericea community.
11:56The presidential delegate for the Araucanía region, Domingo Abdala Abarzua, confirmed
12:01that the facts.
12:02The authority of Florida unfolded that experts would perform an autopsy on Toro's body
12:08in Temuco City.
12:18We want to regret the sensitive death of a forestry brigade worker of the company CMPC,
12:24who lost his life a few minutes ago while firefighting in the commune of Arcila.
12:29We send our most sincere condolences to his fellow brigade members and also to his family.
12:35On the other hand, we are accompanied by the Carabinero chief of zone, General Yénez,
12:40in the spot where there was a fire in the afternoon, that crossed the road, resulting
12:44in the burning of five vehicles.
12:49We are in the sector, near the sector Fernádez, on 5 south route.
12:55And we can inform that, at this moment, the traffic is being restored at least in the
12:59line that goes from north to south, and we hope we can also re-establish soon the roadway
13:04that goes from south to north.
13:07And in Venezuela, the legislature unanimously rejected the coercive measures supported by
13:13the far-right opposition, following the revocation of the license of the U.S. oil company Chevron
13:19to operate in the country.
13:21More details with our colleague, Leonardo Urieta.
13:28All the benches of the different political tendencies in the National Assembly expressed
13:32their rejection of this new measure of the U.S. government against the U.S. oil company
13:36Chevron, revoking its license to operate in Venezuela.
13:40The parliamentarians of the government party support the declarations of President Nicolas
13:44Maduro, where he assured that these sanctions against the U.S. oil company were promoted
13:49by a reduced sector of the opposition related to the international extreme right.
13:58Here it is, at your service and at your orders, the Simón Bolívar liberator organic law
14:02against the imperialist blockade and in defense of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
14:07We urge, dear prosecutor, that this law be applied and that all those who have promoted
14:13these actions against Venezuela pay, pay with jail, pay with disqualifications, pay with
14:18the law of forfeiture of ownership, that the full weight of this law fall upon them.
14:27The deputies to the National Assembly recall that the more than 1,000 illegal sanctions
14:32applied by Washington will not stop the will of the Venezuelan people to be free and sovereign.
14:41Venezuelans are courageous men and women, we are libertarian men and women, we are men
14:45and women who of course profess the self-determination of peoples and in this context we will not
14:49accept imposition of any nature.
14:55We the workers are ready, prepared to assume responsibility for production in Venezuela,
15:00including the entire productive class at the national level.
15:08For its part, the alternative democratic opposition, which is active in the legislative branch,
15:13condemned in a united manner that some extremist spokespersons are calling for economic sanctions
15:18against Venezuela.
15:23The bad thing is that there are Venezuelans who ask for this to happen, the bad thing
15:27is that there are Venezuelans who are happy with this, the bad thing is that there are
15:30Venezuelans who aspire to be deputes, governors and the legislative council and want the country
15:34to go bad, and that there are sanctions, but they have double morals, they talk horrorously
15:38about the country, but tomorrow we see them wanting to register to be candidates for governors
15:42and mayors.
15:49And then these pseudo-leaders go to the United States to ask Donald Trump, to ask the great
15:54powers to also come and sanction Venezuela.
15:57Do they not feel sympathy?
15:59Do they not have a heart?
16:01Do they not have children?
16:02Do they not have mothers, fathers, elderly people in their homes?
16:12Venezuela will grow and prevail in the face of the constant attacks of the U.S. imperialism
16:16and its allies in Venezuela.
16:18This was stated by the deputy and historical parliamentary leader of the United Socialist
16:23Party of Venezuela, Fernando Soto Rojas.
16:30We will resist and we will win.
16:31We know that imperialism cannot be granted even a little bit.
16:34As Che Guevara said, we will continue developing our national industry, our national economy,
16:40strengthening the Bolivarian revolution.
16:49The Venezuelan state as a whole warns that any Venezuelan who calls for sanctions against
16:53the country will be punished based on the provisions of the Simone Bolivar Organic Law
16:58to protect Venezuela from the attacks of the White House.
17:08The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, welcomed on Thursday at the Palace of the
17:12Revolution in Havana the ambassadors of the Arab and Islamic countries accredited to the
17:17country.
17:18This is the second year in a row that a Cuban head of state has welcomed representatives
17:22of the diplomatic corps during the holy month of Ramadan.
17:25The meeting was a testimony to the excellent level of bilateral relations.
17:29At the meeting, authorities of the Caribbean island expressed their best wishes for well-being
17:33and prosperity, while the ambassador of Yemen to Cuba and Delegation's head, Mohamed Saleh
17:39Nasser, reiterated the position of this community of nations against the blockade and the inclusion
17:44of Cuba in the notorious list drawn up by Washington of countries that allegedly sponsor
17:49terrorism.
17:58The presence tonight of President Díaz-Canel, the Prime Minister and other Cuban leaders
18:02reflects the depth of the ties and relations between Cuba and our Arab countries.
18:10The month of Ramadan is a month of blessings, it is a month that brings us the best, it
18:15is a holy month, it is an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, cooperation and tolerance between
18:21us, the Arab countries, and we take this opportunity to highlight these values that distinguish
18:26us.
18:31We also want to highlight the role that Cuba plays in supporting just causes and, first
18:36and foremost, the Palestinian cause.
18:50The Federation of Indonesian Buddhists held Friday in central Java an award ceremony to
18:54commend those women contributing to the development of Buddhism.
18:58At the brink of the International Women's Day, 80 Buddhist nuns, leaders coming from
19:0411 countries, gathered at the Borobudur Temple, the largest Buddhist temple worldwide.
19:09The nuns, also known as Big Khunis, not only attended the celebration but also prayed for
19:14those women in need over the world.
19:16The religious attendees came from countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, China, India
19:21and Nepal.
19:28By bestowing such awards, we are recognizing the role of the recipients as these women
19:33have contributed to the development of Buddhism in their respective countries and to the empowerment
19:38of women.
19:41This event is organized on the occasion of International Women's Day.
19:45The number of participants, 80, is really a coincidence.
19:50We didn't limit the number, but it's just the lucky number that came up, 80 Big Khunis
19:55coming to Borobudur in Indonesia.
